Animal Rights Controversy
For the fifth time that day, Mrs. Jacobs walks past the Miller's window where she stares at their
family pug. All of her effort to not open the door is confined in hatred, this animal that doesn't
deserve to be cooped up all day, being taken advantage of. All animals should be loved, animal
critics argue, but it is not necessary for animals to be given rights because of their lack of
communication with humans. The argument of animal rights has exploded in the last decade, creating
organizations like P.E.T.A. (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) and A.L.F. (Animal
Liberation Front) both of which are trying to enforce the government to create laws for animal
rights. Animal rights have been a topic of discussion as early as Ancient Rome,...show more content...
What will happen to all the advancements in medical research, and will animals be put in prison or
brought to jury? The American College of Surgeons has announced that animal research for
education and scientific studies will not be able to be replaced, because of the life changing medical
advances that animals have accomplished for humans. Cancer and HIV medications have depended
on animals to test the effectiveness of the drug and the safety. "In 2005, AIDS patient advocates
campaigned against PETA, criticizing the group for standing in the way of research that requires the
use of animals for toxicity testing." (Lee and Cushman 4). Animal critics believe that animals should
not have rights because of the huge improvement they had made on medicines with animal testing.
Animal testing is not supposed to harm animals its suppose to find ways to help fight diseases for
humans like: Insulin injections for diabetes patients, chemotherapy for cancer patients, stem cell
transplants, vaccines for smallpox, polio, and yellow fever (Rich). If animals were given rights,
researches with animals would have to be discontinued because it would be against the law.
Scientists say it would be devastating and would be a hold to scientific advancement in the medical
field (Rich). If animals were given rights, we can't understand them and they can't comprehend
morality. Animal rights supporters argue that everything in life should have the same equal value.
Some with higher thinking, such as forming beliefs about the world and to respond emotionally and
animals that can do this can be granted natural human rights. This has raised a question to the logical
end, "Consider, for instance, the relative value of a highly functioning great ape, capable of complex
communications and sophisticated tool use, and that of a human child with severe cognitive
disabilities, who will never learn language

Essay on Zoos and Animal Rights
Among many other fun and exciting attraction to visit around our community, a visit to the zoo has
always been a memorable experience. This cost effective priceless lifetime experience is being
undermined by a group of activists all around the country. People for the Ethical Treatment of
Animals (PETA), world largest animal rights organization, argue that zoos deprived animals from
satisfying their most basic needs. They urge not to patronized zoos and claims that the money spent
on ticket purchases pays for animals to be imprisoned and traded, not rescued and rehabilitated. They
go on saying in summary that zoos strip animals from their rights. So this heated debate revolves
around the animal rights and how the zoo industry inhibits it....show more content...
Fifty–four percent of the individuals surveyed offered comments about the elevated awareness of
their role in conservation as a direct consequence of their visit to the zoo. Furthermore, sixty one
percent of visitors were able to talk about what they learned from their previous visit, and thirty five
percent reported that the visit reinforced their existing beliefs about conservation, stewardship and
love of animals in different surveys. As news writer Amy miller (2014) states zoos are working
harder than ever to save endangered animals around the world. She explained that the Wildlife
Conservation Society (WCS), which is headquartered at the Bronx Zoo in New York City, is
working with local officials in Malaysia to stop people from hunting exotic birds to sell their
feathers. Furthermore, The California zoo is famous for its work helping to save China's giant panda.
Three panda cubs have been born at the zoo already. The San Diego Zoo now has the largest
population of giant pandas outside mainland China.
In addition to promoting conservation many modern zoo encourage research. Studies and research
have to be done in order to contribute to the preservation of endangered species. The San Diego zoo
for instance just opened the Conservation and Research for Endangered Species Center. The $22
million center gives scientists cutting–edge instruments and plenty of room to do their work as
mentioned by Amy (2014). Farmers in Africa think the spotted cheetah is an

Animal Conservation Essay
Earth is home to a collection of wonderful flora and fauna. From the bold and beautiful macaw to
the miniscule pygmy fruit bat, ever ecosystem hosts a multitude of fantastic creatures and fauna.
Unfortunately, approximately 16,306 species of plants and animals have been placed on the IUCN's
red list as endangered. It is estimated that every day 150–200 fauna and flora species become extinct.
Our world cannot afford to lose so much of our natural world, and I believe that it is our
responsibility to conserve and protect our ecosystems and the inhabitants of those ecosystems. It is
my intention to major in the field of animal sciences with a concentration in biodiversity and
conservation so I have the means to aide conservation. Moreover, I hope that by receiving a higher
education I can aide in the protection and relief efforts of these wonderful creatures. My intentions
are to attend classes that will equip me with the mandatory college and skills to protect and preserve
the natural wonder of this earth.
My passion for nature was kindled through the wildlife exposer I received from the Great Smoky
Mountains national park. The mountains have always been an inspiration and I would love to
work in a field in which I get to work the nature within them. Tennessee is home to some many
wonderful flora and fauna and it is a place when I truly feel at home. This national park is home to
many spectacular and rare animals. Protecting and researching these animals is a truly

Essay about Animals Must Be Protected
Animals Must Be Protected
Animals are in many ways the same as human beings. We consider them our best freind, sibling,
child, or to put it simply, we view them as being part of our family. For example, my parents have
a a Pekingese puppy, whom I identify and treat as my little brother. I could never imagine what I'de
do if anything were to happen to him. For these reasons, I strongly believe in the rights of animals
and the need to provide them full protectionfrom violence and danger. Those who share this concern
can in fact find on the internet useful information that addresses the issues of animal abuse, neglect,
and exploitation. Some of these sources of information are organizations, which include, but are not
limited to,...show more content...
According to thier website, in efforts to fulfill its organizational goals and mission, AHO has joined
forces with other humane organizations and together, they are taking positive actions by creating
animal welfare programs such as animal adoption, care and issues, farm animals, disaster relief,
film monitoring, shelter services, legislative action, and educaton and awareness. In addition, AHO
offers links on thier website where you can learn more leadership skills for developing policies and
services to help children and animal abuse and neglect.
Aside from promoting individual action, the American Humane Organization also relies heavily on
simply creating pubilc awareness about the issues facing children and animals. They achieve this
organizational goal by implementing and enabling quick access of facts about problems and
concerns dealing with both animals and children onto thier website. These facts range in questions
concerning anywhere from shelter of animals to sexual abuse of children. In addition, the American
Humane Organization website offers information regarding official government laws, both state and
federal, which exists to serve the welfare of both children and animals and to promote humane
services. Some of which these laws include are Captive Wildlife Safety Act 2003 and Violence
Against Chldren Act of 2003, just to name a few of the most recent.

Animal Welfare In Zoos
In a world where animals thrive and live, also comes the world of the human species. For many
years animals and humans have lived together and have continued to grow. The human species has
always been at the top of the food chain and will continue to be. Because humans are dominant over
most animals, many things can happen. One of these things that are capable by the human species
are zoos. Zoos have been around in society for many years, and they hold many purposes such as
"conservation, science, education, and recreation" (Wickins–DrazilovГЎ). Many zoos have mission
statements that hold common themes. The common themes among most of the mission statements
are "(a) conservation and (b) education" (Patrick). Zoos should always be able to stay true to their
mission statements while continuing to ethically provide and care for the animals in captivity.
Animal welfare should be amongst the promise of zoos in missions as well. There are flaws in the
measurement for animal welfare in zoos. According to Dita Wickins–DrazilovГЎ "the usual criteria
for measuring for measuring animal welfare in zoos are physical health, long life, and reproduction"
(Wickins–DrazilovГЎ). There are more factors of animal welfare than the usual criteria. Many zoos
claim to have healthy animals that live long lives and reproduce, but that is not merely sufficient
enough for proof of good care. A long life in suffering, for example, is not a great way to live, and it
is possible for animals to live long
