2. Web 3.0 and the Age of Intelligence
• Often called the Semantic or Pervasive Web, Web 3.0
brings a level of artificial intelligence to transform the
Internet from a searchable catalogue to a personal
guide that can reason in a human-like fashion and
provide users with more services and options for social
networks.
• This session will map out the world of Web 3.0,
exploring the unique benefits for end users, as well as
opportunities for businesses. Using specific examples,
Jon Doyle will demonstrate how Web 3.0 will change
the way users interact with the web - from planning and
booking an entire vacation to automatically scheduling
doctor's appointments based on personal preferences

4. Where are we with Web 3.0?
Wikipedia outlines:
• Transformation of the Web from a network of separately siloed applications
and content repositories to a more seamless and interoperable whole.
• Ubiquitous connectivity, broadband adoption, mobile Internet access and
mobile devices;
• Network computing, software-as-a-service business models, Web services
interoperability, distributed computing, grid computing and cloud computing;
• Open technologies, open APIs and protocols, open data formats, open-source
software platforms and open data
• Open identity, OpenID, open reputation, roaming portable identity and personal
data;
• The intelligent web, Semantic Web technologies such as RDF, OWL, SWRL,
SPARQL, GRDDL, semantic application platforms, and statement-based
datastores;
• Distributed databases, the quot;World Wide Databasequot; (enabled by Semantic Web
technologies)
• Intelligent applications, natural language processing. machine learning,
machine reasoning, autonomous agents

5. What will Web 3.0 bring?
• The next phase of the Web's evolution will be all about
verticalization?

17. An Outlook
• The European Commission is considering the implications of Web 3.0 in
order to help Europe lead the next generation of the internet.
• While Web 2.0 described the trend towards online collaborative working,
including the evolution of social networking sites, wikis and blogs, Web
3.0 will rely on high-performance broadband infrastructure, according to
the Commission.
• quot;Web 3.0 means seamless, anytime, anywhere business,
entertainment and social networking over fast reliable and secure
networks,quot; said Viviane Reding, Commissioner for Information Society
and Media.
• quot;It means the end of the divide between mobile and fixed lines. We
must make sure that Web 3.0 is made and used in Europe.quot;
• By the end of 2007, half of all Europeans should be able to access
broadband at more than 2Mbps, a speed that supports TV over the
internet, according to a new report from the Commission which details
how the new generation of internet use is already on it way.

18. Summary: Time to speed up
• Network Operators investments needed today
• Interoperability needs to become a must and not a
favour of some
• Value Added Services need to be rolled out today to
encourage new applications to be built
• Market shares will be taken fast
