Slide 2: What Is Worship? --------------------------------- “Confident Surrender”

Slide 3: 1) PRAISE/DEVOTION – Seeing what’s true about God. 2) REPENTANCE/RENEWAL – Saying what’s true about myself. 3) COMMITMENT/SELF-GIVING – Surrendering my life.

Slide 4: 1) There is an unrelenting affinity for the self bound up in the heart of every human being.  This affinity threatens a sustainable spirit of self-giving.  If left unchecked, this affinity wreaks havoc on relationships and destroys community.

Slide 5:  Undermining this affinity will require at least four things: 1. Rigorous self-examination. 2. Honest self-appraisal. 3. A confessional lifestyle. 4. An active spirituality.

Slide 6: 1) You love God just as much, and no more, than the person you love the least.  Romans 12.9-21 – the index of love is my action towards the other; feelings are too erratic and subjective to be reliable.  1 John 4.20-21 – “…he who does not love his brother whom he has not seen cannot love God whom he has not seen.”
