2. Dominic Savio was born in Riva de Chieri (Italy) on 2 April 1842.
He was the eldest among five children of Ángel Savio,
and Brígida, a simple woman who helped the family
economy by sewing for her neighbors.
7. From a very young age, he liked to help at Holy Mass as an acolyte, and when he arrived
at the temple very early in the morning and the door was closed, he would stay there on
his knees adoring Jesus in the Eucharist, while the sacristan came to open the chapel
9. The day before his first confession, he went to his mother and asked her for
forgiveness for all the troubles he had given her with his childish defects
10. “Resolutions that Dominic Savio, made in the year 1849,
at seven years old, the day of his First Communion: -
1. I will go to confession very often and receive Holy
Communion whenever the confessor allows me to.
2. I want to keep the holidays holy.
3. My friends will be Jesus and Mary. 4. Rather die than sin.”
11. On October 2, 1854, he met Don Bosco. This holy
priest would guide him on the path of youthful
holiness, becoming his spiritual father, his teacher
and his friend. He took him to Turin to study.
12.
13. He was 12 years old. There he spent his adolescence, living as a boarder
with the poor boys that Don Bosco himself gathered into his Oratory.
14. When he arrived at the Oratory, he read the sign posted over the door of Don
Bosco's room: “Give me souls, and take the rest!”; and spontaneously he told him:
“Don Bosco, this is your business, the salvation of souls. Well then, I will be
the cloth and you will be the tailor. Make of me a beautiful suit for the Lord."
15. He walked alone , through the bushes, the 18 kilometers, as a 10 year old,
to school every day. His uncle asked him: Aren't you afraid to go alone?
He replied, “I am not alone; my Guardian Angel protects me.
16. He kept the rules of the house exactly ...
and also fulfilled all his duties
17. And Saint John Bosco said of him: "If this young man had continued going to that
place, he would not have become a saint." But obedience to his director saved him
18. “when some companions prepared a war of stones he said to them:
'Jesus died forgiving those who crucified him and you don't want to forgive
those who offend you.' The two enemies shook hands, and made peace
19. When struck by a smaller companion he answered - "I could hit you too because
I'm stronger than you. But I forgive you, as long as you don't say what shouldn't
be said again." The other corrected himself and was henceforth his friend
20. Once wrongly accused for the indiscipline in the class, he did not defend
himself, but said - "Our Lord did not defend himself when they accused
him unjustly. And also the promoters of disorder could be expelled if
they were found out, because they have already committed faults.
21. On the other hand, as it was for me a first offense, I may be
punished, but I could be sure that they would not expel me".
22. His took to attending his wayward companions,
and helped newcomers to the Oratory and the lonely,
the classmates with difficulties, and the sick.
24. Don Bosco advised him - "Dominic, what God wants of you, as a
teenager, is that you always do your homework well as a student,
try to do good to your classmates and always be happy"
25. For three years, he won the Fellowship Award,
by popular acclaim of all 800 students
26. With the best students of the school, he founded an association called "Company
of the Immaculate Conception" to encourage each other to better fulfill their
duties and dedicate themselves to the apostolate with greater fervor.
27.
28. And it is remarkable that of the 18 young people with whom
John Bosco founded the Salesian Community, two years later,
11 were from the association founded by Dominic Savio.
29. Every day he went
to visit the Blessed
Sacrament in
the chapel,
and in the Holy
Mass, after
receiving
Communion he
remained as if in
ecstasy talking
with Our Lord
30. The mother of Saint John Bosco, Mama Margarita, said to her son one day:
"Among your students you have many who are wonderfully good. But none
equals Dominic Savio in virtue and holiness. No one as joyful and pious as him,
and no one so always willing to help everyone and in every way".
31. Don Bosco finds Dominic in ecstasy in front of the tabernacle
32. every Friday he is accompanied by
some companions to pray the Rosary
of the Seven Sorrows in the chapel
33. His relatives wanted to prevent her from going in to see his mother, since she
was struggling to give birth to a new child and was in serious danger of dying.
Dominic paid no attention and entered, he threw himself on his mother, hugged
her, kissed her and secretly left a scapular of the Virgin Mary on her breast.
34. In the summer of 1856 a cholera epidemic broke out
and Don Bosco gathered forty-four young people to help
the sick. Dominic, like Don Bosco's other volunteers,
did not suffer any harm, as promised by the saint.
35. The heroic efforts of
this adolescent to
keep his purity intact,
especially controlling
his gaze, are due to
his great devotion
to the Immaculate
Conception, lived with
a chivalrous spirit and
ardent tenderness.
38. December 8, 1854. On that day he made a general
confession, and before the altar of the Immaculate
Conception he personally consecrated himself to her.
39. The soul of this boy desired so much to go to God,
that his weak body was no longer able to restrain it.
40. after confessing and receiving Communion and receiving the Anointing of the Sick,
he felt that he was leaving for eternity. He called his daddy to say prayers for him
from the prayer book next to his bed. -At 9 o'clock at night he exclaimed: "Dad,
dad, what beautiful things I see" and with an angelic smile he sweetly expired.
41. a few years later he appeared to Saint John Bosco,
surrounded by many more young people who
were in heaven. He was splendid and full of joy.
42. And he told him: "What consoled me the most at the time of death was the
presence of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Recommend everyone to pray a lot and
with great fervor. And tell the young people that I await them in Paradise."
43. He is PATRON of:

44. He was proclaimed
Blessed on March 5,
1950 by Pius XII, who
later canonized him on
June 12, 1954. The Pope
said: "With admiration
one discovers in him the
wonderful pathsof grace,
and a permanent and
unreserved adherence to
the things of heaven that
his faith perceived
with rare intensity.
45. Among the miracles attributed to him were the cures of
María Consuelo Adelantado Moragas and Albano Sabatino
46. PRAYER TO
SAINT DOMINIC SAVIO
Saint Dominic Savio,
who at Don Bosco's school
learned to follow the paths
of youthful holiness:
teach us to imitate your
love for JESUS and MARY,
and your desire to lead
your companions to be
THEIR friends;
Teach us to practis his motto,
"Rather die than sin", so we
may achieve our eternal
salvation. Amen
47. PRAYER OF THE MOTHER
WAITING FOR A CHILD
Lord Jesus, through the intercession of
Saint Dominic Savio I beg you with love for
this sweet hopethat I carry in my bosom.
You have given me the immense gift
of this little life that encourages mine;
I humbly thank you for choosing
me as an instrument of your love.
In this sweet hope, help me to live in
continuous abandonment to your divine will.
Grant me a mother's heart, pure, strong and
generous. - I entrust to you the cares of the
future: the anxieties, the fears, the desires in
favor of the creature that I do not know yet.
May it be healthy in body, and remove all evil
and all danger to the soul. Mary You enjoyed
the ineffable joys of a holy maternity, give me
a strong heart to transmit a living and ardent faith.
Sanctify my waiting, bless my joyful hope,
make the fruit of my womb strong in virtue
and holiness, as you granted to the
adolescent Saint Dominic Savio. - Amen
