The Causes Of Air Pollution In Beijing, China
Beijing, China has a coal mining history of nearly 800 and some odd years. This has been a major
air pollutant and the main reason for it is because its economy has grown substantially in the last 30
years. Worldwide, there are twenty cities with the highest, worst air pollution, sixteen of those cities
are within China alone. The main causes of Beijing's air pollution can be pointed to several factors.
Large economical growth, an increase in vehicles on the roads, growth in population, and
manufacturing. China has also experienced major economic growth with a large rise in Gross
Domestic Product. This increase can be connected with pollution. Vehicles are just one contributor
to pollution which we will discuss later in this paper. The population growth in Beijing contributes
to a big portion of its pollution. The population has risen from 11 million to 16 million in just 7
years, and has nearly doubled over the past century. Factories that utilize coal burning contribute to
the smog currently present in Beijing. Many of these factories depend on outdated and inefficient
technology which emits air pollutants. Beijing is a victim of its own topography since it's
surrounded by mountains which traps pollution within the city. Air quality worsens in the spring and
summer seasons when the humidity and temperature levels increase. Air pollution has been so
drastic to the point that the city often engulfs in smog making it near zero visibility which in turn
causing road

Project
Indoor air quality at Stanwich is important for the health and comfort of teachers and students.
Understanding and controlling common pollutants indoors can help reduce health concerns. There
are many things that cause air pollution in our building including paint, heating system, cleaning
sprays, furniture and other materials. These pollutants can cause allergies, scratchy eyes, skin
irritation and headaches.
An approach to reducing air pollutants inside building is the use of plants and soil microorganisms.
Outside air quality depends on plants and microorganisms. Living in buildings away from plants
even without being exposed to chemicals, still exposes us to human waste products that cause indoor
air pollution problems.
What Causes of Indoor Air Problems
The primary cause of poor indoor air quality are sources that release gases or particles into the air.
Poor ventilation can increase indoor pollution by not bringing in enough outdoor fresh air into the
class that reduce the emissions from indoor pollution. Also, indoor air pollution is not carried out of
the class area. High classroom temperature and humidity levels can also increase concentrations of
some pollutants.
Pollutant Sources
There are many sources of indoor air pollution. These can include:
Building materials and furnishings as diverse as:
Deteriorated asbestos–containing insulation
Newly installed flooring, upholstery or carpet

Pros And Cons Of Crawl Space Vents
Crawl Space Vents in Massachusetts and Rhode Island To get an energy–efficient home, your attic,
crawl space and crawl space vents need to be properly installed and insulated. Otherwise, you could
be facing high heating and cooling bills alongside moisture damage. Luckily, the crawl space vents
we install can be controlled by the temperature outside. They'll open and close automatically,
depending on the weather. This is a convenient feature, because you no longer have to worry about
opening or closing your vents. During construction, the crawl space doors and vents are often
overlooked and these can become a weak point in your home. Pests can enter, and humidity isn't
controlled– this is the easiest way for moisture damage to happen. Excess

Effects of Pollution in China
In the last two decades, the air pollution in China has increased substantially. The lack of good air
quality is especially prominent in the more urban, industrialized areas of China. Environment
Minister Zhou Shengxian warned, "If China meant to quadruple the size of its economy over 20
years without more damage, it would have to become more efficient in resource use. Otherwise,
there would be a painful price to pay" (BBC News). The topic of air pollution is not a new concern
to the world; however, the effects of air pollution, especially to the hundred of thousands of people
directly or indirectly harmed by the side effects of "bad air," should be of grave concern. According
to the Ministry of Health, air pollution has made cancer the ... Show more content on

As a result, it is estimated that three–quarters of the rivers running through Chinese cities are so
polluted that they cannot be used for drinking or fishing. Even the infamous Yellow River is
suffering from man–made environmental problems. Once the country's second biggest source of
fresh water, the river is now so polluted that almost 70% is hazardous to drink; moreover, because
the river has been the target for over–exploitation for many years, the water tends to dry up before it
reaches the sea for almost a third of the year.
According to the World Health Organization, reports estimate that diseases triggered by indoor and
outdoor air pollution kill 656,000 Chinese citizens each year and polluted drinking water kills
another 95,600 (Platt). The majority of the air pollution in China is generated by the burning of coal
and fuel oil in order to generate electric power. They do not have that much hydropower, power that
comes from the energy of massive moving water, to help with demand and supply and, therefore,
rely on the burning of coal. Coal is a natural resource that is abundant in amount but requires a lot of
manpower and miners to obtain it every year. Because of its population and carrying capacity, China
burns more coal to produce

Management Of Indoors Air Quality
Management of Indoors Air Quality in schools:
Schools' children do spend in their classrooms almost double the time they do in their rooms at
homes (WHO, 2007). This gives the extra importance of having good indoor air quality at schools
which helps to pertain an improved learning environment, increased productivity and better health
for students and school staff. Having poor indoor air qualities would have severe consequences on
health, behaviors, perception, development and learning disabilities (WHO, 2007).
In the context of creating an an optimal learning environment for children, a set of approaches and
strategies would be applicable to be adopted by schools depending on the type of the snag. Studies
throughout the developed countries – performed by WHO – about indoor air quality at schools
resulted that air problems in schools could be obviated by providing adequate and continuous
ventilation, controlling humidity and using efficacious outdoor air removal filters (WHO, 2007).
All schools should have strategies that address air pollution based on the several aspects of air
pollution sources. These strategies include; cautious use of hazardous substances and their proper
disposal, effective periodic inspection of leaks and cracks in building foundations and plumbing
systems, periodic inspection and maintenance of ventilation, heating, and air conditioning systems
with compliance to international guidelines, periodic inspections for pests assuring informing school

The Importance Of Environment On The Environment
The environment has a major influence in the personal health of a child and many of them are not
aware of how it affects them drastically. Various health conditions are either caused or aggravated by
environmental factors. One of the major health causing hazards is air pollution which can results in
asthma, cancer, and other severe respiratory conditions of which, many of these children are naïve
about how to protect themselves from these diseases. Students from the grades four through sixth
need to be educated about the health hazards resulting from air pollution and learn practices at
school that will help lessen air pollutants for their overall health and for future generations as well.
Applications such as riding your bike and walking to school, and creating your own garden, will
help promote good health for children as it will help improve air quality for them.
Education
Educating students on environmental hazard, specifically air pollution, at a young age can help
prevent premature respiratory conditions and so, teachers must find creative ways for students to
understand how much air quality can affect them. To begin one of these activities, teachers will
provide background information about common issues that are affecting the environment both
globally and locally then provide an activity that will get students engaged as to understanding why
and how these issues came to be. Students in grades four through six should be able to understand
the characteristics of organisms and their environment, and so teachers will focus on the latter of this
topic. One of the lessons would be teaching what is "environmentalism," by stating that, "everything
that we do in our daily lives affects this interrelationship [ecology] as the earth is always changing.
Today people are changing the earth faster than any forces of nature. We have created many
problems like landfills, oil spills, and nuclear disasters" (Norwood 1996). Once understanding the
facts, students will record a weeks' worth of visible pollution by "spreading a thin layer of Vaseline
on one side of several 3 by 5 index cards then placing the cards in a variety of places where they
will be undisturbed for one week. At the end of the week collect all the

Hidden Mold
A Few Things To Know About Getting Rid Of Mold In Your Attic
When you see a big stain on your ceiling that indicates your roof is leaking, there's a good chance
mold is growing near the wet area. Mold spores are very common, and they are normally present in
your home. However, when there is excess moisture from a roof leak, and a food source such as
wood or drywall, mold will flourish. Mold is a danger to your home. It can affect the value of your
home, destroy the insulation in your attic, ruin wood and drywall, and give your home a musty
smell. It can even irritate your respiratory system. You want to have mold removed as soon as you
can. Here are some things to know about mold remediation.

It may be inside the drywall of your ceiling. It may even be growing on the rafters and wood beams.
If the leak has been going on for a long time and the weather is warm and humid too, you may have
dangerous levels of mold in your attic, especially if ventilation is poor. That's another reason to
leave the inspection to a professional. Once the degree of damage is uncovered, the contractor can
advise on the best way to fix your mold problem.
Prevent Spreading The Spores
When mold–covered materials are disturbed, mold spores are released into the air. That's why it is
dangerous to rip out moldy insulation and drywall yourself. A contractor uses a negative ventilation
system that draws spores out of your house. He or she may even wet the materials first to make the
spores less likely to become airborne. If care isn't taken to prevent the spread of mold spores, mold
may start growing in other areas, such as your HVAC system. Mold spores in the air can also irritate
your lungs if you're sensitive to them.
You'll also need to turn off your fans and air conditioning system while the contractor works because
this helps reduce the spread of spores. Even so, some spores will be released, and that's why it is
important for the contractor to wear protecting clothing and a breathing apparatus while removing
mold from your

Cause And Effect Of Air Pollution
On certain days one may notice it seems to be a little harder to breath when you're outside for a
while. Or if one is outside for a while they start to cough and get a tickle in the back of their throat.
Those are symptoms of a bad air pollution day. These are days when the air pollution could be
higher because of certain circumstances. There are different kinds of air pollution and all of it has
effects on one's health.
Air pollution is caused by many different types of things such as our cars and coal burning plants
but it can also be caused by natural causes such as a wildfires. The ozone unfortunately catches the
most air pollution and this is due to our car emissions chemically reacting with the sunlight. This
bad for the population because this type of pollution gathers close to ground and is considered to get
worse in the summer time. Children, elderly and people who spend lots of time outside are most at
risk of becoming sick. Children can experience coughing and wheezing. If they have asthma the
pollution can cause their asthma to worsen. If they continue to be outside for long periods of time
during the bad ozone days it can result in permanent lung damage. Elderly who already have
existing issues such as lung disease are at risk because it can worse their symptoms. People who are
healthy but spend most of their time outside can notice that they are coughing more and this because
the bad ozone has inflamed their lungs. Bad ozone is worse around heavily populated

Air Pollution : The Main Sources Of Outdoor Air Pollution
Indoor Air Quality
Air Pollution occurs when a substance that has harmful or poisonous effects contaminates the air. It
is a serious danger to the environment, but also a major public health issue. According to the World
Health Organization (WHO), 7 million people died as a result of Air Pollution exposure in 2012,
namely 1 in 8 deaths worldwide. Cardiovascular diseases are the main causes of these deaths.
Many people when they think of Air Pollution, cities, car emissions, chemicals from factories, smog
come across their mind. They think of Outdoor Air Pollution. However, what about the air within or
around our homes?
WHO estimates that Indoor Air Pollution accounted for 4.3 million deaths compared to 3.7 million
deaths for Outdoor Air Pollution. Furthermore, as indicated by the Environmental Protection Agency
(EPA), many organic pollutants indoors are 2 to 5 times more concentrate than outdoors regardless
of the geographic location, whether in rural or highly industrial areas. These concentrations can
possibly reach 1000 times higher after certain activities such as paint stripping. In addition to the
higher concentration, a person spends about 90% of their time indoors; therefore, Indoor Air
Pollution is just as important as Outdoor Air Pollution.
Sources of Indoor Air Pollution, Health Effects, and Solutions
Indoor Air Pollution comes from many sources. Besides the Outdoor Air Pollution making its way
indoors, home furnishings, building materials, cleaning products and other lifestyle habits are
sources of pollution. Depending on the type of pollutants, their concentrations, the length of
exposure, and the person being exposed, the health effects may be experienced in a short or a long
term, and can be minor like headaches, eye, nose, and throat irritation, or severe like lung disease,
heart disease, or cancer. Hopefully, as mentioned by the WHO, intervening on the source of
pollution, the living environment, and the user behavior can cut Indoor Air Pollution.
Some common indoor air pollutants are:
–Asbestos is a microscopic fiber. It is found in heat–resistant fabrics, packaging, or building
materials, especially in homes built before 1980. When inhaled, asbestos can cause cancer or other

Air Pollution In Beijing Essay
Introduction
Pollution in Beijing has exceeded the 'Very unhealthy' alert and is now rated unlivable. People in
Beijing are advised to avoid going outside wherever possible. Good morning/afternoon everyone. I
'm here today to raise awareness about air pollution in Beijing, the capital city of china.
What is Pollution?
Pollution is defined as the process of harmful substances being released into the air. Some of these
substances include Carbon Monoxide, Sulphur dioxide, Lead and PM2.5. PM2.5 is small particles
which are smaller than 25 thousandths of a millimeter. This polluted air will fill your lungs with tiny
particles and cause Lung cancer, Asthma and other heart and lung diseases.
How does Pollution affect the people of Beijing?
According to the EPA pollution recommendations, when a city reaches an air quality index (AQI) of
over 400, all people should avoid going outdoors. Beijing's highest AQI is 895. This impacts the
daily lives of Beijing citizens immensely. Air pollution has been related to increased cases of cancer,
heart disease, stroke and other respiratory illnesses. It is also associated with asthma in children.
How did pollution become a problem in Beijing?
China produces half of the world's coal, and 70% of china's energy is produced by burning coal,
about the same as Australia. China has burned about 3.8 Billion tons of before 2011, and the rest of
the world has burnt 4.3. Coal burning produced about five billion tons of carbon dioxide in china in
2004.

Ducts Are Dirty Research Paper
Signs Your Home's Ducts Are Dusty And How They're Cleaned If it seems like your home gets
dusty fast, then you should think about the air ducts in your home. The air in your house circulates
through the ducts so if there's a lot of dust settling on your furniture, then dust is probably in your
ducts too. You can keep your furniture clean by dusting it occasionally, but dust will keep building
up in the ducts. Here's when to suspect your ducts have dust buildup and how it can be removed.
How To Tell If Your Ducts Are Dirty Start by checking the register vents. If they're coated with dust
or clogged with dust bunnies, that's a good indication there's dust further in the ducts. Cleaning out
the registers won't do much for dust that is deeper in the tunnels. You might also suspect the ducts
are dirty if you have frequent respiratory irritation. If you're susceptible to allergies or asthma, your
condition might be irritated by the dust and particulates that are picked up in the ducts and circulated
through your home. You might get a clearer idea of the condition of your ducts by using your phone
to take a picture inside the ducts. Remove the grill from a register and stick your camera inside to
take a picture. The easiest and most accurate way to tell if your ducts need to be cleaned is to have
them inspected by a professional. How Ducts Are Cleaned ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

One method that might be used is to connect a large negative pressure hose to the duct system so
debris can be pulled outside and collected in a bag. Then, the crew can work from each register
opening with a brush or duster that's connected to an air hose. As dust is cleaned from the sides of
the ducts, the air blows it toward the large negative pressure hose so it doesn't waft out of the
register. When the job is done, you can see inside the large collection bag outside how much dust
was removed and just how dirty your ducts

Importance Of Attic Insulation
Have you been wondering why your energy bills are so high when it gets cold? When was the last
time you took a trip to your attic and spent more than a few moments in there? If you take a look
around, you may find that there are some reasons for you to be concerned. The attic is one area of
the home (besides the basement) that tends to get overlooked when people are implementing
measures to make their homes more comfortable and energy efficient. These areas are based at the
highest and lowest points of the house and are more susceptible to degradation. That is why it so
important to make sure that they are properly insulated with the right materials and fortified against
moisture.

An Error Based Data Acquisition System Used For Carbon...
An Error Residual Generator for Fault Detection and Isolation in a Data Acquisition System Used
For Carbon Mono–Oxide & Nitrogen Oxide Monitoring
Abstract– clean air is a basic necessity for all human beings living on earth, yet about 80% of
world's population breathes air that has pollutants which exceed the World Health Organization's
recommended level. Environmental air pollution has significant influence on the concentration of
constituents in the atmosphere leading to effects like global warming and acid rains. To avoid such
adverse imbalances in nature, an air pollution measuring system is of utmost importance. This paper
presents fault detection and isolative model implemented in a novel fault tolerant microcontroller
based data acquisition system design for air pollutant concentration measurement in industrial
facilities in Nigeria. A supervisory control unit was incorporated in the data acquisition system
design in an attempt at robust control. The model utilizes weighted standard deviation /data variance
method to detect anomalies and correlation in measured data, with a view to data intelligence
elicitation, an error residual generator was designed to handle fault isolation and accommodation.

Air pollution is responsible for many health problems in the urban areas. The air pollution status in
Delhi has undergone many changes in terms of the levels of pollutants and the control measures
taken to reduce them. This paper provides an evidence–based insight into the status of air pollution
in Delhi and its effects on health and control measures instituted. The World Health Organization
released a report in September 2011 reported that Delhi has exceeded the maximum PM10 limit by
almost 10–times at 198 μg/m3. Thick smog has enveloped New Delhi since the Diwali festival, as
the Capital witnessed the worst spell of smog in a season. The air quality has been severe as
pollution levels touched high. The smog is said to be a cloud causing low visibility to qualify as
smog, there should be enough pollution, smoke, and moisture in the air. The smoke and other
particulate matters combine with fog when there is high humidity and low temperatures to form
smog. Pollution refers to the contamination of the earth's environment with materials that interfere
with human health, quality of life or the natural functioning of the ecosystems. The major forms of
pollution include water pollution, air pollution, noise pollution and soil contamination. Other less–
recognised forms include thermal pollution and radioactive hazards. It is difficult to say that any one

Delhi Air Pollution Essay
Air pollution in India takes a toll on the people
For many Americans, one of the simplest pleasures in life is to open the door and get a breath of
fresh clean air. However, half a world away in India, this is becoming increasingly rare, as scientists
are growing concerned that the air quality in the rapidly developing nation is becoming a major
environmental concern.
With its rapid industrialization and urbanization, many are worried that the increase in carbon
emissions is having drastic effects on the environment and the people in India. According to a report
by the World Health Organization, 13 of the most polluted 20 cities in the world were in India, with
the capital, New Delhi, being the most polluted city in the world. Poor air quality is a leading cause
of premature death in India, with about 620,000 people dying from it each year, says the WHO.
"I have been all over India for the past few months, and every area has been different. The two cities
that I've mainly been in are Pune and Delhi. Pune was polluted, but not anything too alarming. The
visibility was fairly normal and the air quality index was in the unhealthy range, but it never reached
hazardous. Delhi, however, has been unlike anything I've ever seen," said Rachael Letscher, a
Westminster Alumni who has been working in India. "During the really bad week the AQI was over
1000 (it was recorded as 1010 at the American embassy). You couldn't see more than about 50–100
yards in front of you. It was like a giant blanket of grey smoke just covered the city. Everyone had
on face masks, and pharmacies were running out of facemasks to sell. It got to the point that our
advisor for the semester moved us to a more northern city (Dehradun) to escape the pollution. My
friend and I were curious about the effects that the pollution has for people that live in Delhi, and the
saddest thing we discovered was that over 50% of school children have unrepairable lung damage as
compared to children not growing up in polluted areas. During the week in November where it was
the worst, schools were closed because of the smog. Flights were canceled, and it was estimated that
breathing the air was equivalent to smoking 50 cigarettes a day. Some of the major causes for

Effects of Urbanization
Urbanization can be defined as the physical growth of population increasing in urban areas. By
2050, it is predicted that 64.1% and 85.9% of the developing and developed world respectively will
be urbanized, compared to 1800 where only about 2% of the world's population lived in urban areas
(Urbanization). Urbanization is necessary to sustain growth in developing countries. Urbanization
changes the social and environmental landscape across the globe. The increase in world population
has tripled the urban population. The most striking examples of the urbanization of the world are the
megacities of 10 million or more people. In 1975, only four megacities existed; in 2000, there were
18. In addition, by 2015 the UN estimates that there will be 22 (Urbanization: an Environmental
Force). Urbanization does lead to some positive benefits as well as many negative benefits. Public
health is a growing risk associated with urbanization, specifically air pollution that has a significant
effect on the overall health of urbanized communities lowering the quality of life.
The environment changes when people consume more food, land, energy, and water than in rural
communities. Then what happens is the polluted environment changes the health and quality of life
of the population. Such pollutions include sanitation issues due to lack of space for garbage
disposal, shortage of water supply, and air pollution. Inner city transportation is a key influence in
the increase of air

Cause And Effects Of Climate Change
According to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC, 1992),
climate change is an alteration that affects directly or indirectly to peoples' lives, changing the
formation of the global atmosphere with the deterioration of climate. Global warming is a political
challenge which involves the hard work between countries and it is becoming a globalized and
international problem nowadays. Due to the impacts of climate change, it affects a country's political
issues such as the migration of nations and the biodiversity loss which may lead to the imbalance of
populations, the international struggle brought by the lack of sources, and the air quality index
(AQI) of each countries which affect the rate of illness. Although these problems have not been fully
solved, there are a few effective strategies which can reduce or overcoming, namely using
renewable energy, exercising taxes and fines, signing agreements, and encourage people to become
a vegetarian or weekdays vegetarian. First of all, migration is a two–way issue. It can be both a
cause and an effect of worsening political challenges. The migration of the nations can cause a
political problem which is the imbalance of population. For example,.......... Besides, the migration
of the farmers from the rural to urban areas in a country itself could decrease the amount of
harvesting and the provision of crops. Therefore, the price of the crops perhaps would also increase
due to the fewer amounts of the crops.

Hong Kong 's Air Pollution Problems
Hong Kong's Air Pollution problems
Hong Kong's air pollution has reached unprecedented, phenomenal levels, which seems to be
growing controllably with each passing day, and creating worse situations. Despite there are
desperate and overwhelming measures taken by the Hong Kong Government Authority to address
and rectify the situation, the situation of air pollution is turning grimmer by the day.
After the Second World War, the major working sector in China began a massive shift from the
agrarian to the industrial sector, a process that was accelerated by the War. Today there are eighty–

Besides, the smog from neighboring China also contributes to high levels of air pollution in this city,
and exacerbates already bad conditions in Hong Kong, which has been defying solution for all these
years. In the event this uncontrollable situation continues to thrive, most denizens and citizenry of
Hong Kong would have to make a mass exodus out of the country, much to the chagrin of the
Government and Civic Authorities (EPD, An overview of the air quality and air pollution control in
Hong Kong, 2015).
According to recent studies conducted by the University of Hong Kong, the current levels of
pollution in Hong Kong were at least 3 times that prevailing in New York and twice of that found in
London. 20% of the residents of Hong Kong are affected health– wise by the pollution for which
there now does not seem to be ready or resolvable answer (Mirandila, 2012).
The Hong Kong government looks on as hapless spectators as pollution–related issues continue to
grow, unabated, and all their best control stratagems seem to be getting them nowhere. The issue is
progressing in recent years, thanks to proliferation of industries, power plants, factories, which spew
tons of wastes into the Hong Kong atmosphere every day, besides tonnes of CO2 and other deadly
chemicals from the plethora of plying vehicles on Hong Kong streets at any given point of times,

A New Concept
IAQ is not a new concept, consider our ancestors living in caves and the impact from smoke
pollutions or in ancient Egypt stonemasons working in the open air were healthier than those
working in workshop. Even Biblical scripts refer to the dangers of mould in the home. However,
there have been four fundamental developments that have occurred in the last forty–five years (Lee,
et al., 1996): The increased time spent within indoor environments. The increased dependency on
artificial products (building materials and finishes, scents, furniture). The increased occupancy
density (open plan offices, reduction of working space). Advancements of energy conservation
techniques (air tight buildings, re–circulated air, reduced ventilation). A growing body of scientific
evidence has indicated that the air within buildings can be more seriously polluted than the outdoor
air in even the largest and most industrialized cities. The US's Toxic Substances Strategy Committee
stated that the majority of cancers (80–90%) are triggered by exposure to substances in the
environment (Landrigan et al., 2002). According to a 5–year–study carried out by the US
Environmental Protection Agency (Greenfield, 1991), peak concentrations of 20 toxic compounds,
some linked with cancer and birth defects, were 200–500 times higher inside than outdoors. It is
necessary to note that these figures are based on US values and there is a need to exhibit caution in
applying them directly to the UK in

The Impact Of Air Quality In China
China is one of the countries with the poorest air quality. Moreover, Eastern China has an average
air quality index (AQI) of 180, and some locations like Jiangbei, Songyuan have an AQI rating of
over 500 (World Air Quality, 2017). Typically, on the AQI, a rating of above 150 is unhealthy, where
individuals may experience mild to serious health effects from poor air quality (World Air Quality,
2017). Additionally, an AQI of above 200 is considered hazardous, which leads to the entire
population experiencing sever health effects (World Air Quality, 2017). In fact, China's poor air
quality directly causes 1.6 million deaths a year, which equates to 4000 deaths per day (Ramsey,

Canada can work with China to improve their air quality and protect their environment, by
stipulating that the companies that supply Canada with goods from China must obtain the ISO

14001 is an environmental management system that helps companies reduce their environmental
impact (International Organization for Standardization, n.d.). Specifically, ISO 14001 includes 5
elements: the environmental policy to adhere by, the development of company procedures to
describe compliance to ISO's policies, the implementation and operation of the company's
procedures, the audits that ensure the organization is following their procedures and ISO's policies,
and lastly the management review (ENLAR Compliance Services, 2013). As a result, if many
private companies have an incentive to reduce emissions in China, there will be more focus within
the country to accomplish the goal to improve their air quality. However, this may decrease profits
for many Chinese company's, which may put 10 million jobs at risk in the textile industry alone

of every hundred adults in the U.S. currently smoke cigarettes, causing more than 480,000 deaths
every year ("Current Cigarette Smoking"). There are health issues that occur with smokers and
passive smokers. The Clean Indoor Air Act was amended in Washington State on November 8, 2005
in order to protect residents' health, prohibiting "smoking within 25 feet of entrances, exits, windows
that open, and ventilation intakes that serve enclosed areas where smoking is prohibited" ("Smoking
in Public Places Law"). People are not allowed to smoke inside of buildings according to this law,
but people are still getting harmed. When they walk on sidewalks and in public space, they are

Effects Of Air Pollution
Blog: 5 Ways To Improve Indoor Air Quality "The health effects of air pollution imperil human
lives. This fact is well–documented." – Eddie Bernice Johnson
According to the saying by Eddie Johnson, we can say that indoor air pollution is by far the biggest
environmental problem in the world. Also, while looking at the fact 20% up to 10% of the outdoor
air pollution can make its way inside the average home [1], so we can surely say that every year
many people would have die due to the exposure to household air pollution caused by indoor open
fire.
This becomes true when you look at the fact estimated by world health organisation that, "4.3
million people a year died prematurely from illness attributable to the household air pollution caused
by the inefficient use of solid fuels [2]".
Which are the indoor air pollutants responsible for deteriorating air quality? How can you handle
them?
 Carbon monoxide (CO)
This is an odourless, invisible gas which is produced by the incomplete combustion of fossil fuels
and appliances or heaters that burn natural gas, oil, wood, propane or kerosene. Side effects of
carbon monoxide include tiredness, headaches, dizziness, or confusion.
What can you do?
It is recommended that having your heating systems checked by experts yearly will make sure that
combustion of appliances such as heaters is been installed correctly and also don't use this

Solution To The Air Pollution In Delhi, India
Air pollution has been an ever–growing concern in the world. With the rise of fossil fuels and
industry, air quality has been declining around the world. While this is not novel information,
recently, rapid developing cities have been highlighted as producing hazardous levels of air quality.
Air pollution causes adverse health effects such as lung and heart disease, respiratory problems,
asthma attacks, and more. One of these critical level cities is Delhi, India. Just a few months ago a
health emergency was declared due to the worsening air pollution levels. Pictures of roads and
sidewalks shadowed by a permanent gray fog appeared in newspapers and even social media caught
wind of the issue, with Snapchat having a story with citizens sending videos with masks on and kids
being sent home from school. This paper delves into the background and current knowledge around
the air pollution problem as caused by motor vehicles while analyzing potential solutions to the
problem. Delhi is one the largest cities in the world with approximately 19 million people. With
such a large population in a congested area there is bound to problems with health. While Delhi has
always suffered from poor air quality, recently the situation has worsened. The US Embassy
measures PM2.5 constantly under EPA standards, and as of today the air quality index is at 212,
corresponding to "very unhealthy". According to the US Embassy website, "AQI values between

The Causes Of Air Pollution In Beijing, China

  • 1. The Causes Of Air Pollution In Beijing, China Beijing, China has a coal mining history of nearly 800 and some odd years. This has been a major air pollutant and the main reason for it is because its economy has grown substantially in the last 30 years. Worldwide, there are twenty cities with the highest, worst air pollution, sixteen of those cities are within China alone. The main causes of Beijing's air pollution can be pointed to several factors. Large economical growth, an increase in vehicles on the roads, growth in population, and manufacturing. China has also experienced major economic growth with a large rise in Gross Domestic Product. This increase can be connected with pollution. Vehicles are just one contributor to pollution which we will discuss later in this paper. The population growth in Beijing contributes to a big portion of its pollution. The population has risen from 11 million to 16 million in just 7 years, and has nearly doubled over the past century. Factories that utilize coal burning contribute to the smog currently present in Beijing. Many of these factories depend on outdated and inefficient technology which emits air pollutants. Beijing is a victim of its own topography since it's surrounded by mountains which traps pollution within the city. Air quality worsens in the spring and summer seasons when the humidity and temperature levels increase. Air pollution has been so drastic to the point that the city often engulfs in smog making it near zero visibility which in turn causing road ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. The Importance Of Indoor Air Pollution Julia Henderson H Environmental 11/10/17 Project Indoor air quality at Stanwich is important for the health and comfort of teachers and students. Understanding and controlling common pollutants indoors can help reduce health concerns. There are many things that cause air pollution in our building including paint, heating system, cleaning sprays, furniture and other materials. These pollutants can cause allergies, scratchy eyes, skin irritation and headaches. An approach to reducing air pollutants inside building is the use of plants and soil microorganisms. Outside air quality depends on plants and microorganisms. Living in buildings away from plants even without being exposed to chemicals, still exposes us to human waste products that cause indoor air pollution problems. What Causes of Indoor Air Problems The primary cause of poor indoor air quality are sources that release gases or particles into the air. Poor ventilation can increase indoor pollution by not bringing in enough outdoor fresh air into the class that reduce the emissions from indoor pollution. Also, indoor air pollution is not carried out of the class area. High classroom temperature and humidity levels can also increase concentrations of some pollutants. Pollutant Sources There are many sources of indoor air pollution. These can include: Building materials and furnishings as diverse as: Deteriorated asbestos–containing insulation Newly installed flooring, upholstery or carpet Cabinetry or ... Pros And Cons Of Crawl Space Vents Crawl Space Vents in Massachusetts and Rhode Island To get an energy–efficient home, your attic, crawl space and crawl space vents need to be properly installed and insulated. Otherwise, you could be facing high heating and cooling bills alongside moisture damage. Luckily, the crawl space vents we install can be controlled by the temperature outside. They'll open and close automatically, depending on the weather. This is a convenient feature, because you no longer have to worry about opening or closing your vents. During construction, the crawl space doors and vents are often overlooked and these can become a weak point in your home. Pests can enter, and humidity isn't controlled– this is the easiest way for moisture damage to happen. Excess ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Effects of Pollution in China In the last two decades, the air pollution in China has increased substantially. The lack of good air quality is especially prominent in the more urban, industrialized areas of China. Environment Minister Zhou Shengxian warned, "If China meant to quadruple the size of its economy over 20 years without more damage, it would have to become more efficient in resource use. Otherwise, there would be a painful price to pay" (BBC News). The topic of air pollution is not a new concern to the world; however, the effects of air pollution, especially to the hundred of thousands of people directly or indirectly harmed by the side effects of "bad air," should be of grave concern. According to the Ministry of Health, air pollution has made cancer the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a result, it is estimated that three–quarters of the rivers running through Chinese cities are so polluted that they cannot be used for drinking or fishing. Even the infamous Yellow River is suffering from man–made environmental problems. Once the country's second biggest source of fresh water, the river is now so polluted that almost 70% is hazardous to drink; moreover, because the river has been the target for over–exploitation for many years, the water tends to dry up before it reaches the sea for almost a third of the year. According to the World Health Organization, reports estimate that diseases triggered by indoor and outdoor air pollution kill 656,000 Chinese citizens each year and polluted drinking water kills another 95,600 (Platt). The majority of the air pollution in China is generated by the burning of coal and fuel oil in order to generate electric power. They do not have that much hydropower, power that comes from the energy of massive moving water, to help with demand and supply and, therefore, rely on the burning of coal. Coal is a natural resource that is abundant in amount but requires a lot of manpower and miners to obtain it every year. • 21. Management Of Indoors Air Quality Management of Indoors Air Quality in schools: Schools' children do spend in their classrooms almost double the time they do in their rooms at homes (WHO, 2007). This gives the extra importance of having good indoor air quality at schools which helps to pertain an improved learning environment, increased productivity and better health for students and school staff. Having poor indoor air qualities would have severe consequences on health, behaviors, perception, development and learning disabilities (WHO, 2007). In the context of creating an an optimal learning environment for children, a set of approaches and strategies would be applicable to be adopted by schools depending on the type of the snag. Studies throughout the developed countries – performed by WHO – about indoor air quality at schools resulted that air problems in schools could be obviated by providing adequate and continuous ventilation, controlling humidity and using efficacious outdoor air removal filters (WHO, 2007). All schools should have strategies that address air pollution based on the several aspects of air pollution sources. These strategies include; cautious use of hazardous substances and their proper disposal, effective periodic inspection of leaks and cracks in building foundations and plumbing systems, periodic inspection and maintenance of ventilation, heating, and air conditioning systems with compliance to international guidelines, periodic inspections for pests assuring informing school ... • 25. The Importance Of Environment On The Environment The environment has a major influence in the personal health of a child and many of them are not aware of how it affects them drastically. Various health conditions are either caused or aggravated by environmental factors. One of the major health causing hazards is air pollution which can results in asthma, cancer, and other severe respiratory conditions of which, many of these children are naïve about how to protect themselves from these diseases. Students from the grades four through sixth need to be educated about the health hazards resulting from air pollution and learn practices at school that will help lessen air pollutants for their overall health and for future generations as well. Applications such as riding your bike and walking to school, and creating your own garden, will help promote good health for children as it will help improve air quality for them. Education Educating students on environmental hazard, specifically air pollution, at a young age can help prevent premature respiratory conditions and so, teachers must find creative ways for students to understand how much air quality can affect them. To begin one of these activities, teachers will provide background information about common issues that are affecting the environment both globally and locally then provide an activity that will get students engaged as to understanding why and how these issues came to be. Students in grades four through six should be able to understand the characteristics of organisms and their environment, and so teachers will focus on the latter of this topic. One of the lessons would be teaching what is "environmentalism," by stating that, "everything that we do in our daily lives affects this interrelationship [ecology] as the earth is always changing. Today people are changing the earth faster than any forces of nature. We have created many problems like landfills, oil spills, and nuclear disasters" (Norwood 1996). Once understanding the facts, students will record a weeks' worth of visible pollution by "spreading a thin layer of Vaseline on one side of several 3 by 5 index cards then placing the cards in a variety of places where they will be undisturbed for one week. At the end of the week collect all the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hidden Mold A Few Things To Know About Getting Rid Of Mold In Your Attic When you see a big stain on your ceiling that indicates your roof is leaking, there's a good chance mold is growing near the wet area. Mold spores are very common, and they are normally present in your home. However, when there is excess moisture from a roof leak, and a food source such as wood or drywall, mold will flourish. Mold is a danger to your home. It can affect the value of your home, destroy the insulation in your attic, ruin wood and drywall, and give your home a musty smell. It can even irritate your respiratory system. You want to have mold removed as soon as you can. Here are some things to know about mold remediation. Inspect For Hidden Mold When you see a water ... If the leak has been going on for a long time and the weather is warm and humid too, you may have dangerous levels of mold in your attic, especially if ventilation is poor. That's another reason to leave the inspection to a professional. Once the degree of damage is uncovered, the contractor can advise on the best way to fix your mold problem. Prevent Spreading The Spores When mold–covered materials are disturbed, mold spores are released into the air. That's why it is dangerous to rip out moldy insulation and drywall yourself. A contractor uses a negative ventilation system that draws spores out of your house. He or she may even wet the materials first to make the spores less likely to become airborne. If care isn't taken to prevent the spread of mold spores, mold may start growing in other areas, such as your HVAC system. Mold spores in the air can also irritate your lungs if you're sensitive to them. You'll also need to turn off your fans and air conditioning system while the contractor works because this helps reduce the spread of spores. Even so, some spores will be released, and that's why it is important for the contractor to wear protecting clothing and a breathing apparatus while removing mold from your ... • 33. Cause And Effect Of Air Pollution On certain days one may notice it seems to be a little harder to breath when you're outside for a while. Or if one is outside for a while they start to cough and get a tickle in the back of their throat. Those are symptoms of a bad air pollution day. These are days when the air pollution could be higher because of certain circumstances. There are different kinds of air pollution and all of it has effects on one's health. Air pollution is caused by many different types of things such as our cars and coal burning plants but it can also be caused by natural causes such as a wildfires. The ozone unfortunately catches the most air pollution and this is due to our car emissions chemically reacting with the sunlight. This bad for the population because this type of pollution gathers close to ground and is considered to get worse in the summer time. Children, elderly and people who spend lots of time outside are most at risk of becoming sick. Children can experience coughing and wheezing. If they have asthma the pollution can cause their asthma to worsen. If they continue to be outside for long periods of time during the bad ozone days it can result in permanent lung damage. Elderly who already have existing issues such as lung disease are at risk because it can worse their symptoms. People who are healthy but spend most of their time outside can notice that they are coughing more and this because the bad ozone has inflamed their lungs. • 37. Air Pollution : The Main Sources Of Outdoor Air Pollution Indoor Air Quality Air Pollution occurs when a substance that has harmful or poisonous effects contaminates the air. It is a serious danger to the environment, but also a major public health issue. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 7 million people died as a result of Air Pollution exposure in 2012, namely 1 in 8 deaths worldwide. Cardiovascular diseases are the main causes of these deaths. Many people when they think of Air Pollution, cities, car emissions, chemicals from factories, smog come across their mind. They think of Outdoor Air Pollution. However, what about the air within or around our homes? WHO estimates that Indoor Air Pollution accounted for 4.3 million deaths compared to 3.7 million deaths for Outdoor Air Pollution. Furthermore, as indicated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), many organic pollutants indoors are 2 to 5 times more concentrate than outdoors regardless of the geographic location, whether in rural or highly industrial areas. These concentrations can possibly reach 1000 times higher after certain activities such as paint stripping. In addition to the higher concentration, a person spends about 90% of their time indoors; therefore, Indoor Air Pollution is just as important as Outdoor Air Pollution. Sources of Indoor Air Pollution, Health Effects, and Solutions Indoor Air Pollution comes from many sources. Besides the Outdoor Air Pollution making its way indoors, home furnishings, building materials, cleaning products and other lifestyle habits are sources of pollution. Depending on the type of pollutants, their concentrations, the length of exposure, and the person being exposed, the health effects may be experienced in a short or a long term, and can be minor like headaches, eye, nose, and throat irritation, or severe like lung disease, heart disease, or cancer. Hopefully, as mentioned by the WHO, intervening on the source of pollution, the living environment, and the user behavior can cut Indoor Air Pollution. Some common indoor air pollutants are: –Asbestos is a microscopic fiber. It is found in heat–resistant fabrics, packaging, or building materials, especially in homes built before 1980. People in Beijing are advised to avoid going outside wherever possible. Good morning/afternoon everyone. I 'm here today to raise awareness about air pollution in Beijing, the capital city of china. What is Pollution? Pollution is defined as the process of harmful substances being released into the air. Some of these substances include Carbon Monoxide, Sulphur dioxide, Lead and PM2.5. PM2.5 is small particles which are smaller than 25 thousandths of a millimeter. This polluted air will fill your lungs with tiny particles and cause Lung cancer, Asthma and other heart and lung diseases. How does Pollution affect the people of Beijing? According to the EPA pollution recommendations, when a city reaches an air quality index (AQI) of over 400, all people should avoid going outdoors. Beijing's highest AQI is 895. This impacts the daily lives of Beijing citizens immensely. Air pollution has been related to increased cases of cancer, heart disease, stroke and other respiratory illnesses. It is also associated with asthma in children. How did pollution become a problem in Beijing? China produces half of the world's coal, and 70% of china's energy is produced by burning coal, about the same as Australia. China has burned about 3.8 Billion tons of before 2011, and the rest of the world has burnt 4.3. Coal burning produced about five billion tons of carbon dioxide in china in 2004. ... • 50. Ducts Are Dirty Research Paper Signs Your Home's Ducts Are Dusty And How They're Cleaned If it seems like your home gets dusty fast, then you should think about the air ducts in your home. The air in your house circulates through the ducts so if there's a lot of dust settling on your furniture, then dust is probably in your ducts too. You can keep your furniture clean by dusting it occasionally, but dust will keep building up in the ducts. Here's when to suspect your ducts have dust buildup and how it can be removed. How To Tell If Your Ducts Are Dirty Start by checking the register vents. If they're coated with dust or clogged with dust bunnies, that's a good indication there's dust further in the ducts. Cleaning out the registers won't do much for dust that is deeper in the tunnels. You might also suspect the ducts are dirty if you have frequent respiratory irritation. If you're susceptible to allergies or asthma, your condition might be irritated by the dust and particulates that are picked up in the ducts and circulated through your home. You might get a clearer idea of the condition of your ducts by using your phone to take a picture inside the ducts. Remove the grill from a register and stick your camera inside to take a picture. The easiest and most accurate way to tell if your ducts need to be cleaned is to have them inspected by a professional. How Ducts Are Cleaned ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One method that might be used is to connect a large negative pressure hose to the duct system so debris can be pulled outside and collected in a bag. Then, the crew can work from each register opening with a brush or duster that's connected to an air hose. As dust is cleaned from the sides of the ducts, the air blows it toward the large negative pressure hose so it doesn't waft out of the register. When the job is done, you can see inside the large collection bag outside how much dust was removed and just how dirty your ducts ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An Error Residual Generator for Fault Detection and Isolation in a Data Acquisition System Used For Carbon Mono–Oxide & Nitrogen Oxide Monitoring Abstract– clean air is a basic necessity for all human beings living on earth, yet about 80% of world's population breathes air that has pollutants which exceed the World Health Organization's recommended level. Environmental air pollution has significant influence on the concentration of constituents in the atmosphere leading to effects like global warming and acid rains. To avoid such adverse imbalances in nature, an air pollution measuring system is of utmost importance. This paper presents fault detection and isolative model implemented in a novel fault tolerant microcontroller based data acquisition system design for air pollutant concentration measurement in industrial facilities in Nigeria. A supervisory control unit was incorporated in the data acquisition system design in an attempt at robust control. The model utilizes weighted standard deviation /data variance method to detect anomalies and correlation in measured data, with a view to data intelligence elicitation, an error residual generator was designed to handle fault isolation and accommodation. The overall system implements corrective procedures in the event of a fault or failure with appropriate indicators showing in–process operation. • 70. Air Pollution Air pollution is responsible for many health problems in the urban areas. The air pollution status in Delhi has undergone many changes in terms of the levels of pollutants and the control measures taken to reduce them. This paper provides an evidence–based insight into the status of air pollution in Delhi and its effects on health and control measures instituted. The World Health Organization released a report in September 2011 reported that Delhi has exceeded the maximum PM10 limit by almost 10–times at 198 μg/m3. Thick smog has enveloped New Delhi since the Diwali festival, as the Capital witnessed the worst spell of smog in a season. The air quality has been severe as pollution levels touched high. The smog is said to be a cloud causing low visibility to qualify as smog, there should be enough pollution, smoke, and moisture in the air. The smoke and other particulate matters combine with fog when there is high humidity and low temperatures to form smog. Pollution refers to the contamination of the earth's environment with materials that interfere with human health, quality of life or the natural functioning of the ecosystems. The major forms of pollution include water pollution, air pollution, noise pollution and soil contamination. Other less– recognised forms include thermal pollution and radioactive hazards. However, half a world away in India, this is becoming increasingly rare, as scientists are growing concerned that the air quality in the rapidly developing nation is becoming a major environmental concern. With its rapid industrialization and urbanization, many are worried that the increase in carbon emissions is having drastic effects on the environment and the people in India. According to a report by the World Health Organization, 13 of the most polluted 20 cities in the world were in India, with the capital, New Delhi, being the most polluted city in the world. Poor air quality is a leading cause of premature death in India, with about 620,000 people dying from it each year, says the WHO. "I have been all over India for the past few months, and every area has been different. The two cities that I've mainly been in are Pune and Delhi. Pune was polluted, but not anything too alarming. The visibility was fairly normal and the air quality index was in the unhealthy range, but it never reached hazardous. Delhi, however, has been unlike anything I've ever seen," said Rachael Letscher, a Westminster Alumni who has been working in India. "During the really bad week the AQI was over 1000 (it was recorded as 1010 at the American embassy). You couldn't see more than about 50–100 yards in front of you. It was like a giant blanket of grey smoke just covered the city. Everyone had on face masks, and pharmacies were running out of facemasks to sell. It got to the point that our advisor for the semester moved us to a more northern city (Dehradun) to escape the pollution. My friend and I were curious about the effects that the pollution has for people that live in Delhi, and the saddest thing we discovered was that over 50% of school children have unrepairable lung damage as compared to children not growing up in polluted areas. During the week in November where it was the worst, schools were closed because of the smog. Flights were canceled, and it was estimated that breathing the air was equivalent to smoking 50 cigarettes a day. Some of the major causes for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 91. Effects of Urbanization Urbanization can be defined as the physical growth of population increasing in urban areas. By 2050, it is predicted that 64.1% and 85.9% of the developing and developed world respectively will be urbanized, compared to 1800 where only about 2% of the world's population lived in urban areas (Urbanization). Urbanization is necessary to sustain growth in developing countries. Urbanization changes the social and environmental landscape across the globe. The increase in world population has tripled the urban population. The most striking examples of the urbanization of the world are the megacities of 10 million or more people. In 1975, only four megacities existed; in 2000, there were 18. In addition, by 2015 the UN estimates that there will be 22 (Urbanization: an Environmental Force). Urbanization does lead to some positive benefits as well as many negative benefits. Public health is a growing risk associated with urbanization, specifically air pollution that has a significant effect on the overall health of urbanized communities lowering the quality of life. The environment changes when people consume more food, land, energy, and water than in rural communities. Then what happens is the polluted environment changes the health and quality of life of the population. Such pollutions include sanitation issues due to lack of space for garbage disposal, shortage of water supply, and air pollution. A New Concept IAQ is not a new concept, consider our ancestors living in caves and the impact from smoke pollutions or in ancient Egypt stonemasons working in the open air were healthier than those working in workshop. Even Biblical scripts refer to the dangers of mould in the home. However, there have been four fundamental developments that have occurred in the last forty–five years (Lee, et al., 1996): The increased time spent within indoor environments. The increased dependency on artificial products (building materials and finishes, scents, furniture). The increased occupancy density (open plan offices, reduction of working space). Advancements of energy conservation techniques (air tight buildings, re–circulated air, reduced ventilation). A growing body of scientific evidence has indicated that the air within buildings can be more seriously polluted than the outdoor air in even the largest and most industrialized cities. The US's Toxic Substances Strategy Committee stated that the majority of cancers (80–90%) are triggered by exposure to substances in the environment (Landrigan et al., 2002). According to a 5–year–study carried out by the US Environmental Protection Agency (Greenfield, 1991), peak concentrations of 20 toxic compounds, some linked with cancer and birth defects, were 200–500 times higher inside than outdoors.
