Presentation given by Mulenga Kasoma from Central London Connexions at Young Londoners Participation Network Meeting (23rd May 2011)
Theme: Employment and Apprenticeships;
Making it accessible for all young Londoners
2. Who are Central London Connexions
• Connexions provide information, advice and support
for 13 – 19 year olds, or up to 25 for those with
learning difficulties
• Central London Connexions covers Camden,
Lambeth, Islington, Kensington and Chelsea,
Southwark, Wandsworth and Westminster
• Courses; Careers; Jobs; and Training Opportunities
• Advice on: Personal matters; such as Health, Housing
etc
3. Our Objectives
• To develop an IAG ‘App’ that is accessible to all
users of mobile phones
• To devise and test an empowerment model
with a range of partners
• To provide a unique method which involves
young people in sourcing their own
information.
4. Why we developed an App
• Young people lost interest in paper-based
material
• Young people sometimes feel uncomfortable
asking for assistance
• Young people are unaware of different choices
available to them, because information is
scattered.
• Free and quick access to information
5. How we used Social Media
• To deliver impartial IAG choices into the hands
of young people through a mobile phone app
which young people now favour
• By developing an ‘app’ that is accessible on all
mobile phones, it will encourage interaction
with young people supporting them in their
key decision making, learning, training and
work opportunities
6. Target Audience
• Young people aged 13 – 19 year olds, and up
to 25 year olds with Learning Difficulties
• Parents
Main Target
• To reach 600 young people per Central London
borough; amounting to 4,200 young people to
sign up.
