Eyewitness Exhibition
In the Eyewitness Views exhibition at Getty, the viewer is submerged in the past. The exhibition
primarily focuses on reliving the past golden era paintings of European art during its peak in the
18th century. This impressive collection of art works visual record the past events in vivid detail like
for example royal celebrations, religious ceremonies, sporting contests and natural disasters. In other
words, historical and everyday events are portrayed in the paintings by the skilled artists that present
the illusion that the viewer is at that present time. Art history is recorded with more detail and
memory that's the impression I encountered In this exhibition. However, at the same time, these
events and could have also been manipulated

Timothy Mitchell
Timothy Mitchell – Orientalism and the Exhibitionary Order (1989)
It is no longer unusual to suggeste that the construction of the colonial order is related to the
eloboration of modern forms of representation and knowledge
( This has been examined by critique of Orientalism
Best known analysis on Orientalism: Edward Said
Orientalist world is defined by: 1. It is understood as the product of unchanging racial / cultural
essences/ characteristics 2. These characteristics are always the opposite of the West (passive/
active, static/ mobile, emotional/ rational, chaotic/ ordered) 3. Oriental ismarked by fundamental
absences (of movement, reason, order, meaning)
( In terms of these characteristics the colonial world can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The apparent realism of the representation: The model always seemed to stand in perfect
correspondence to the external world 2. The model always remained distinguishable from the reality
it claimed to represent: Model was always a copy of the original 3. Distinction between the system
of exhibits or representations and the exterior meaning they portrayed was imitated by
distinguishing between the exhibits themselves and the plan of the exhibition: The visitor would
also, besides the objects, encounter catalogs, plans, sign posts, programs, guidebooks, etc.
Paradox: It was not always easy to tell where the exhibition ended and the world itself began
( World outside the exhibition began more and more to look like an extension of the exhibition
The Labyrinth without Exits
Uncertainty of what seemed the clear distinction between the simulated and the real: No clear line
between the artificial and the real
( Example: The Egyptian street in the exhibition seemed very real, but it was also commercialised
(paying for donkey rides, café in the mosque, dancing girls)
Exhibitions came to resemble the commercial machinery of the rest of the city
Warehouses/ Shopping malls: Products were ordered behind glass, precisely positioned

Zoos, Aquariums And Museum
Nowadays, it is hard to find a person who has never been in a zoo, aquarium or museum. Since
childhood we find it fancy to observe animals and exhibits, but sometimes even adults do not
understand what the real value of zoos, aquariums and museums is.
First, it is necessary to explain the main goals of these institutions which are to increase knowledge
about the surrounding, to learn about conservation–related behavior and to build conservation
principles. In order to fulfill these goals, modern zoos, aquariums and museums provide a huge
range of possibilities such as arranging specific exhibitions ensuring visual experiences, presenting
new information and joining the conservation organization (Yalowitz).
In addition, the information given in an exhibition is not as memorable as it seems at first. After a
week or more people are tend to forget the main message of the presentation. Thus, it means that
zoos, aquariums and museums have to find a way how to increase an impact during people's visits.
This is further shown by the fact that the follow–up visitors gain more knowledge than the first–time
ones. In other words, the follow–up visitors are more likely to ... Show more content on

Some of them want to observe exhibits to bate his or her curiosity, others have hobby passions on
the shown topic and would like to gain a new experience. What is also worth mentioning is that
information presented in an exposure has to comprise needs of every visitor, and zoos, aquariums
and museums have to make it easy for everyone to understand and comprehend all that was shown
and said. Other aspects such as age, gender, social group, ethnicity and basic level of knowledge
should also be taken into consideration. Besides, another argument is that institutions should also
provide programs for distinguishing motivations in order to fulfill one's expectations and to increase
long–term knowledge (why zoos

The New Photography Exhibition
MoMA's longstanding exhibition series of recent work in photography, New Photography, returned
for its 30th anniversary. The New Photography exhibition is called Ocean of Images and is showing
19 artists and artist collectives from 14 countries. The exhibition was organized by Chief Curator of
Photography Quentine Bajac, Lucy Gallun, assistant curator; and Roxana Marcoco,senior curator;
with the assistance of Kristen Gaylord, Beaumont and Nancy Newhall Curatorial Fellow,
Department of Photography ("Ocean of Images: New Photography 2015 | MoMA"). According to
MoMA's exhibition description, the Ocean of Images is suppose to be probing the effects of an
image–based post–Internet reality by examining various ways of experiencing the world ("Ocean of
Images: New Photography 2015 | MoMA"). Some artists have created new work specifically for the
exhibition including DIS and Katja Notvitskova. Photography was not fully accepted as art until the
20th century and today, photography has a large range of what it can produce as a medium. However

Introduction Of The Crystal Palace
INTRODUCTION
It was like–––like nothing but itself, unsurpassable, indescribable, unique, amazing, real!
––––Talli's History and Description of the Crystal Palace and the Exhibition of the World's Industry
in 1851
From 1837 to 1901, under the reign of Queen Victoria, Great Britain, with the supremacy of its
Royal Navy, had largely fulfilled its ambition of global imperial expansion in Asia and Africa
particularly. As the British Empire soon became the largest empire in history, this era was later
known as the "Victorian Era" (John 129).
To further unite nations and demonstrate an imperial industrial and economic leadership of the
world, Queen Victoria's husband, Prince Albert organized the first world's fair, namely, "The Great
Exhibition of the Works of Industry of All Nations", at the Crystal Palace in Hyde Park, London,
from May 1 to October 15 in 1851 (Celik 1). Not only did the diversity of the foreign goods
displayed at the exhibition astonish the publics, but also the Crystal Palace, designed by Joseph
Paxton and Owen Jones, as the striking structure that housed these articles attracted millions of
visitors around the world during 1851 (Fig. 1). Later after the exhibition, the foreign articles were
transferred to the South Kensington Museum (Crinson 65) as part of the "Imperial archive"
(Barringer 11), to promote industrial and commercial education among domestic artisans and skilled
labourers in the next fifty years, with a hope that the nation's economic growth

The pacific science center is a non–profit museum that deals with scientific artifacts. It is located in
the Seattle downtown and just next to the Space Needle. Pacific science center is a popular
destination in the state in relation to science. The center focuses on environmental ecology including
wetland and nature awareness. The center provides travelling exhibits that includes outreach
programs, science education vans and even science on wheels. The center has created a niche market

elements vital to the world, as well as what people can do to preserve the balance in the global
ecology. Another benefit by the firm is their ideology in being a non–profit organization. This means
that the firm does not price people exorbitant fees to tour the center or to use their facilities in order
to create an exhibit. Their prices reflect the firm's costs or paying any necessary costs that apply in

Essay On Expo 2020
World Expo 2020 in Dubai Expo 2020 is definitely a huge event which has excited Dubai,
considering that the Emirate was selected to host the expo. Ever since the Great Exhibition was held,
World Expo have already become a huge deal for many countries as they are significantly focused
on gathering ideas that pave the way towards innovation and progress. In that sense, Expo 2020 has
become a venue that allows countries, people and organizations to brainstorm innovative ideas
which can further lead to partnership and collaboration between and among these parties. This
explains the reason why Dubai is immensely honoured to host the Expo 2020, considering that the
event provides an opportunity for the Emirate and the entire country to further drive their pursuit
towards change in the economy, culture, and society. Expo 2020 is "one of the most internationally
renewed global exhibitions "which is held every five years in a chosen host city and for every expo,
there is a theme that will become the primary concentration of the event" (Dubai World Central,
2015). For Expo 2020, the theme is "Connecting Minds, Creating the Future." Expo 2020 is devoted

Hollywood Exhibition Industry
The accusation of eight largest Hollywood companies _ Metro–Goldwyn–Mayer (MGM), Warner
Bros., Columbia, United Artists, Paramount, Twentieth Century–Fox, RKO and Universal_ did not
directly hurt movie attendance, but it did have a profound effect on film industry profitibility and
stability. The studios acussed of of monopolizing film distribution and exhibition through ownership
of first–run theaters and of participating in a variety of collusive practices. For the five majors, the
government required the divorcement of production and distribution from exhibition. By cutting the
link between production and exhibition, the consent decrees made film production a much less
stable undertaking. Every film became a risk, for both producer and exhibitor while in the past the
risk had been cushioned by the activities of a large company . The idea was that a breakup of the
studios would end the control of exhibition and lead to greater competition throughout the film
industry. The government efforts didi not end a set of monopolistic practices. ... Show more content

The Educational Value of Exhibitions in Musuems
Definition of exhibition
Before proceeding to the discussion of relationship between exhibition, communication and
education, the meaning of the term should be clarified first. The term exhibition implies several
meanings owing to a movement within different context and style of each professional realm. As the
definition shows in oxford dictionary, the word exhibition can be defined as 'a public display of
works of art or items of interest, held in an art gallery or museum or at a trade fair', and it is also
refer to synonyms 'display', 'show'. Similarly, here we can further defined the display as a method of
communication and scenario that convey diverse content to the audience in certain period or a
specific space with the purpose of information transmitting, promotion, education and
enlightenment (Huang and Wu:1998, p.8). Although there is subtle difference of definition and the
representative word of exhibition, it is noteworthy that we can hardly investigate the display apart
from media, message, and audience.
Exhibition, communication, and knowledge shaping.
When it comes to the exhibition in museums, there is increasing discussion of museum as dialogue
environment and its learning impacts on audience. Modern museums have gradually transferred
their emphasis from collection, conservation and research to display and education. Besides the
traditional functions of museum, 吉村典夫( 1979: 104–107) maintains that organisation is
encouraged to develop responsibilities–

Comparing the Websites of Frist and the National Gallery...
Art galleries and museums are buildings or spaces used exclusively for the exhibition and education
of art, but that's not all. Galleries and museums are an essential part of our society. Art in itself
transcends cultural diversity and differences; the museums and galleries that display art present to us
insight into the various cultures, backgrounds, and communities in an unprejudiced environment.
They also provide a significant impact on local and state economics. According to the 2007
Americans for the Arts report Arts & Economic Prosperity III, In Nashville alone the art and culture
industry provides 5,667 full–time jobs and generates 15.64 million in local and state government

information. Museum logos and branding are visible on every page of both websites ensuring
viewers that they are still on the museums website and not lost in cyber space. Overall, both
websites are extremely well put together and very appropriate for the type of place they represent,
but in my opinion the use of color is what makes The Frist's design more inviting as opposed to that
of the National Gallery of Art.
For museum websites exhibition information is the heart of the website. When navigating these
links on the two sites they are notably similar. Both websites categorize their exhibition information
in subcategories equally including current, upcoming, past, and traveling as categories. Each one of
these categories contains information and dates about what is or was on display. They also include
photographic samples of the art on display at the museum. The Frist also includes some
corresponding downloadable content for each of its exhibits. This content includes gallery guides,
teacher guides, and suggested bibliography materials. Both websites give links to related programs
and tours of interest. Unlike The Frist, the National Gallery of Art is considered a collecting
museum. This merely indicates that along with traveling exhibits the museum is also the host to its

Reflection On The Tampa Museum Of Art
For this project, I chose to go to the Tampa Museum of Art. I took my eleven year old daughter
Annabelle with me, she is an aspiring young artist who loves to paint and assemble collages. This
paper will describe the museum's activities and what was on exhibit. After which, I will choose two
works of art and do an in–depth analysis on them. I will use the formal elements and the principles
of design to engage the artworks "The Great Journey" and "A Group of Cubans who left Manzanillo
are Rescued at Sea". Yesterday (Oct, 15 2016), my daughter and I went to our first art museum
together, which was the Tampa Museum of Art and I must say that it was truly interesting. The

I chose this particular painting for two reasons, one it validates why I chose the "The Great Journey"
and two, it also juxtaposes it. "A Group of Cubans who left Manzanillo are Rescued at Sea" would
be better understood with a contextual analysis. Knowing the history of the Cuban people, their
political, economic, and social issues would shed some light on why so many risk their lives trying
to make it to America. This painting is made for public viewing, to memorialize and remind people
of an actual real life incident that occurred back in August of 2014. KHCO shows us Cuban
survivors being pulled from the waters after being stranded at sea between Florida and Cuba, many
died trying to reach American soil. The red resembles blood in the water, transforming feeling and
ideas into a clear symbol of those lost while trying to flee their country. The impression this painting
left on me is the same as the one the sculpture did, this unfathomable idea of living in such a place
that would force me risk not only my life but the life of my children, just to

Early Childhood Environments
Early childhood environments should set out to provide children with the freedom to express and
respond freely. The more children are given opportunities to recreate things they see in their
everyday lives, the more they can create their own meaning and understanding of the world around
them. Hyun (1998) believes that educators should teach and learn in environments which require in–
depth reflection on their own lives and values. I feel this can connect with the way an educator
values art with in the learning environment. By having your own personal understanding, values and
connection with art and its impact on your own life, can help in allowing the flow of artistic
creativity in your teaching practices. If you are open to the world of art in the form of experiences,
discussion and critiquing, then you can pass this enthusiasm towards art onto your learners.

As mentioned in Gibson & McAllister (2005) children should be able to respond, critique and

different works of art can, as mentioned by Terreni (2001, p. 2), produce a wealth of new ideas and
can be the stimulus for new and exciting work. As we feel an array of emotions, thoughts and ideas
when we leave a breath taking new exposure to new art experiences. Such as feelings of stimulus,
inspiration, moved, focused, excited, filled with questions, so too do children as they leave an

Concept for My Mini-Exhibit:Tranquil Rhythms
"The life of man in every part has need of harmony and rhythm" – Plato
Adapted from the Everyday Magic Exhibit at GoMA, the concept for my mini exhibit is Tranquil
Rhythms. The title clearly represents striking elements of the exhibit that bring all the pieces
together. There will be 5 collections shown in the exhibit, they are; Untitled (from webs from my
garden series) by Sandra Selig, Citizens Band by Angelica Mesiti, Untitled Cascade by Rebecca
Baumann, Assorted Spices for Dinner and Daydreams by Mieko Shiomi and Silver Screen by
Callum Morton. The artists all come together around three central ideas that being tranquillity,
rhythm and play. These central ideas will be furthermore explored. Tranquillity is the quality or state
of being calm/serene. It is a key part of the exhibition reflecting how the works combine in creating
a peaceful, calm environment. This is done through different elements, including music, calming
movements or from observation of an art piece. Citizens Band is filmed media portraying
tranquillity through audio as well as visual means. Each of the four performers produces music that
isn't particularly hard hitting but instead calm, adding to the peaceful environment of the exhibition.
The four musicians perform traditional music that may not be as familiar to the audience. This
entrances the viewer through captivating and engaging music. Selig's series represents serenity
through its harmonious red lines flowing and

Through a little research on the internet, a website called "Bodies Revealed" informed me of the
process used to preserve the bodies, which is known as "polymer preservation." The bodies that are
used first are embalmed according to standard procedures and perfused with a preserving agent to
prevent the normal tissue decay that takes place after death. After the body is embalmed, a trained
dissector prepares it, or a part of it, according to predetermined guidelines. Because of the degree of
difficulty involved in dissecting a full body specimen, it can take several months to complete. If the
dissector is working with individual organs, they can be prepared much more quickly. After the
dissection is complete, the specimens are thoroughly rinsed in cold running water, which removes as
much of the preserving agent as possible. Rinsing a full–body specimen can take up to one week to
finish. After the rinsing, the specimen is ready to be dehydrated. They dehydrate the specimens by
placing it in acetone, which acts to replace all of the tissue water present in the specimen. The
specimen is then impregnated with a mixture of liquid silicone polymer and a crosslinker. The
polymer hardens during a curing process, which leaves a dry, odorless specimen that doesn't
decompose. I had the

Home Design in the 19th Century Essay
Home Design in the 19th Century
Home decorating styles changed dramatically during the middle part of the 1800's, even though
design began to refer back to the styles the century had begun with as it came to an end. This
difference in popular taste did not just evolve because of the passage of time, however; new
technological advancements in furniture production and an increased interest in the arts of Asia
influenced home décor. The changing British culture manifested itself in how the middle–class
decorated their homes, and how they perceived themselves.
In the earlier part of the 19th century, tastes tended toward lighter looks. According to The Victorian

The Crystal Palace Exhibition of 1851 was a landmark because it featured furniture so ornate it
became tasteless . Stokstad's Art History (Revised Edition) describes the concern over the designs
featured in the show by saying, "The elaboration of decorative elements at the expense of function
and good taste distressed many, including the event's organizers" (1006). The excess had gone too
far; the Victorians needed a change.
William Morris, "convinced that industrialism itself was the problem" (1006), began to design
furniture with a medieval, yet more basic, style. He endorsed the benefits of hand crafting pieces,
stressing the importance of work by people rather than machines. Not all of the Morris furniture was
expensive, either: the chair on the right side of figure 6, below, was a "cheap, simple, and
basic...hand crafted alternative to the vulgar excess" of previous years (Stokstad 1007). The social
unrest at the time was translated into furniture trends. Near the end of the century, dark, heavy
furniture was transformed into lighter looking and lighter–colored again. This was partly due to the
increasing interest in the simplicity of Japanese designs; "bamboo, and blue and white china"
replaced the ornate knickknacks. At the same time, perhaps as a reaction to the influence of foreign
cultures, collecting antique furniture became popular. Again, Jane Eyre is not excluded from this
trend: she

Antiquity Exhibition
The Remembering Antiquity exhibition at the Getty Center was an amazing visualization of history.
The exhibition was divided into three sections, The Language of Forms, Transmission of

books, manuscripts, and more. It shows that there were separations between a Roman Age, Middle
Age, and the Renaissance. People in the medieval era saw their own modern culture as thegrowth of
classical Greek and Roman traditions in art and literature. This exhibition shows us that antiquity
was conserved through visual arts, manuscripts, and more.
The section of the exhibition I chose to focus on is Transmission of Knowledge. This section

First, what I noticed was that the main overlook of all her pieces included same sex relationships or

piece that had presented two dads with an African American child. This shows the reality of what

I see in my opinion.
Lastly, she had another piece of two men looking marry while holding a newborn baby. This could
possibly mean that they had adopted or fostered a child. It's a beautiful sight because they are so
happy and blessed to have this baby in their life. Again, Sandbothe is prominently making a
statement here about our society and its' view on same sex relationships.
Now, with that being said, she had many pieces presented in her work at this exhibit and I found it
very intriguing how bold she was. She is not only speaking for the LGBT community, but also
speaking to our society and how we should be more accepting of change. The world is continuously

Design Of An Exhibition Gallery
Some are like sea serpents, others like office cubicles, but regardless the shape, all art museum
galleries intend to give viewers a certain experience. The flowing into, out of, and around gallery
spaces within an art museum can positively or negatively affect the patron's experience.
Unfortunately, when the design of an exhibition gallery negatively affects a viewer, a disservice is
done to the artists and culture of the artworks on view. On view in the permanent collection of the
Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, Texas is the exhibition of several seventeenth and eighteenth
century artworks with Spanish influences, accompanied by a single Japanese artifact of the same
era. At first glance, all the pieces on display within this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The grouping of these paintings is quite clear from a historical and visual standpoint. The paintings
each feature warm colors with a splash of vibrancy, apparent subjects, perhaps due to their
monochromatic backgrounds, and also display the same sort of calm and collected subject matter
that much of Spanish Baroque art concentrated on. The Wine Flask, whose creator is unknown, fits
in with warm color scheme and dates back around the same time as the rest of the exhibition,
however it has a known origin of Japan.
Entering the gallery from the main corridor, the patron has two openings to choose from, one on the
left and one on the right, due to the placement of a single white vista wall. With a single exit way on
the side parallel to the entryways, a bench placed in the center of the gallery, and no floor designs
suggesting a specific route, the intended circulatory path of this exhibition is unclear. To view each
artwork within the exhibition and exit into the next gallery, the viewer is forced to travel the same
path they came at least once. Having an undefined pathway in the layout of this gallery leads to
further issues in the exhibition. The most apparent issue is that the viewer is unable to immediately
recognize if there is a focal piece in the gallery. Being in a rectangular room with two parallel white
vista walls and the remaining walls being featured in the same beige stone material with no single
focal lighting element,

The Exhibition For A Juried Exhibition
Having your piece chosen for a juried exhibition from a well known artist is great privilege and
opportunity. For any artist contributing and looking to have their work recognized is an exciting
stepping stone in their life. Opened for the public to view, York College Galleries presented the
Philadelphia Sculptors juried exhibition, Mirror, Mirror: Artists Redefining Identity. This exhibition
is a small collection that provides a little taste from the Philly sculpture community that includes a
great mixture of different pieces. This exhibition is an eye opening environment that one must see

York, Pennsylvania on the 3rd floor Gallery Hall. This particular gallery is an addition to the York
College Studios at Marketview Arts that holds First Friday exhibitions and events. Like Mirror,
Mirror, exhibition programs are featured that include shows of contemporary artists that are

The Pompeii Exhibition
When I attended the Pompeii exhibition, several antiquities from different sections captured my
attention. The first section allows one to experience how a Pompeii citizen would spend the day in
the city. From the lively and vibrant markets and shops to relaxing Roman baths, this city had it all.
The first object to catch my eye was a water sprout in the shape of a satyr. The water spout was made
of two main components. The first element was a circular disc made of bronze and attached to it was
the satyr. On the border of the disc laid meticulous designs that closely resembled leaves. As for the
satyr, on its head rested a wreath composed of leaves. With high arched eyebrows, frown lines and
tight lips, the satyr is a perfect representation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Made of terracotta, this statue was easily over six feet tall and it represented a male actor
impersonating a female character. The actor in question was wearing a floor length short–sleeved
dress. Even if the dress lacked motifs and intricate designs, the soft creases that ran along the entire
dress brings a feminine touch to the overall image. Another factor adding a feminine touch was the
detailed hair updo. Both of these soft and delicate features contrast greatly with the face of the
character. Unlike the rest of the features, the character's face is harsh. This had to do with the mask
that the actor is wearing. With his eyes and mouth wide open, he is projecting strong emotions.
During that time period, since men were the only ones allowed to participate in theatrical plays, they
were required to wear masks to present a character. This sculpture expresses the importance of
activities and shows how far people were willing to push boundaries just for the sake of
entertainment. I was impressed by this figure as nowadays play producers look for a certain type of
person to play a certain role whereas back in time, men only had to wear mask to portray a

Review of Exhibitions
Q1. Sending back 1,000 paid registration fees is not feasible, and would create negative publicity
about the event in the media. However, it is impossible to allow the convention center to become a
fire hazard due to overcapacity, and were an incident to occur, the publicity would even be more
negative, if someone were injured (such as if there was a fire and the building could not be
evacuated in a timely fashion). Instead, using satellite venues to cater to certain aspects of the expo
would be advised. Using the exterior space outside of the convention hall to house some of the
events would balance the number of individuals on the exterior and interior of the structure. Even if
inclement weather were to occur, tents could be used to stage some of the attractions of interest. All
of the different vendors and events would be reviewed, to see which would 'work' better in tents
versus in the hall. For example, a yoga class would likely have to be staged indoors, because of its
size. However, a vendor handing out pamphlets and talking about holistic nutrition could be
confined to a smaller booth. This would maximize the happiness of both the attendees and the client.
The client would be happy that all of the events were staged, and none of the attendance fees were
returned. There would be no unhappy, disgruntled want–to–be conference–goers who had bad
feelings because their money was returned. And finally, the event itself might be enhanced by being

Manzanar Exhibition Essay
Visiting the Manzanar exhibit at the Skirball Cultural Center was pretty sad for me, but also a
reminder. I already learned what happen to Japanese Americans during the time of World War II. I
bin to a similar museum before at Little Tokyo where it had a live replica of the internment camps
these people had to stay during the time of war. It is shocking to see new photos on how it felt being
inside those camps. To be honest, I felt like this was a dark hole that America can't get rid of. It also
sad that some people in this country want to repeat the same mistakes, by discriminating people, for
the violent acts they weren't even involve with. This art exhibit is an important lesson of one of
America most disappointing movements, as Japanese ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Exhibition Rhetorics Analysis
In Bruce W. Fergusons essay on "Exhibition Rhetorics" he uses the phrase "strategic system of
representations" to describe exhibitions. This essay will discuss what he means by this phrase, why
this is socially and politically significant, and provide an example of a historic exhibition where
"strategic systems of representations" was evident. Exhibitions have motives which extend beyond
the walls of art institutions. We know this because Ferguson characterises exhibitions as "strategic
systems of representation; strategies whose aim is the wholesale conversion of its audience to sets of
prescribed values to alter social relations" (Greenberg, Reesa, Bruce W. Ferguson, and Sandy Nairne
1996, pg.178). This means that exhibitions have significant ... Show more content on

As exhibitions do not represent a neutral position on a subject matter then the opinion and the
process by which this opinion was formed should be defined and made transparent to the viewer.
Our understanding of art is for the most part prescribed, Ferguson states "the ways in which art is
talked about, understood and debated are largely determined through the medium of exhibitions"
(Greenberg, Reesa, Bruce W. Ferguson, and Sandy Nairne 1996, pg.180). As exhibitions seek to
benefit and promote the desires and values from within this "network of interests" then we as
viewers are simply told how to understand art, what is valuable and what is to be discarded. The
way in which we come to understand art is laid out for us, with little room to draw our own
conclusions. Exhibitions should represent a democratic view of art; "Exhibitions are the material
speech of what is essentially a political institution, one with legal and ethical responsibilities"
(Greenberg, Reesa, Bruce W. Ferguson, and Sandy Nairne 1996, pg.182). The way in which we
appreciate art is primarily determined through the context of the exhibition. Because of this
museums and art galleries should ensure that they have a democratically elected leadership charged
with upholding this responsibility of

The Museum Of Art Exhibitions
Last week I decided to visit one of the most well–known art exhibitions in Dallas. As I entered the
Dallas Museum of Art I was immediately captivated by the striking and vivid acrylic mural on the
walls created by Nicolas Party entitled Pathway. Party said to have worked on–site at the exhibit for
three weeks to transform the Museum 's central pathway into a mesmerizing, lively colored forest; it
was such a contrast to the rest of the exhibit's entrance. Straight ahead was the Nancy and Tim
Hanley Gallery filled with dull blank white walls matched with a few art pieces; versus the pathway
on the right filled with colorful life that was yanking me in the direction of a brand new world. To
me it seemed as if the walls were desperately waiting to be brought to life by other inspired artist
like Party. The mural not only caught my attention but it made me thirst for more fascinating art as
such. As I continued down the intriguing path filled with distinctive shaped trees and bushes
accompanied by splashes of different shades of green, blue and purple I found a random, seemingly
misplaced painting right in the middle of the pathway. The portrait instantly became one of my
favorites. There hung a large painting of two straight–faced men with serious expressions having
thin yet boldly dark eyebrows, perfectly winged eyeshadow and cherry red lipstick. This portrait
was extremely protrude for the simple fact of how modernized it was. In today's era it's become

The Family Of Man Exhibition

be the most powerful and "greatest photographic exhibition of all time." This said to be "culmination

exhibition 's layout and works all display people rendering or displaying recognizable actions, as a
result, having a great impact on the many people who have viewed the show. Two photographs in
particular from this collection are shown to have a strong similarity to many. Both photos China. by
Eastfoto and Turkey. by Herman Kreider. Black Star Agency1 display people carrying out the
function of voting. Both these photos fall under the photo–essay genre and originate from different
places and different times. This comparison reveals Steichen 's view on politics as abstract and
universalized, helping bring us together by showing us that we are not that different from others who
may be far away. They help us communicate and connect to one another, once again displaying this
idea of one universal medium. In his exhibition, Steichen displays the common themes of life
through photos from around the world. Despite culture or background, this exhibition 's goal was to
use photography as a medium of universal language. Furthermore showing that despite these
barriers mankind shares common themes; the need for love, shelter, food and so forth. The Family

Museum Reflection
Throughout this course, I have reaffirmed my desire to engage others in the process of learning. I
have always been fascinated by the potential museums possess to involve visitors in inquiry and
even cultivate a love for learning. Accordingly, my goal has always been to bring my passion for
learning to museum visitors. Due to my background in archaeology, I have always given the bulk of
my attention to objects within museums, giving little thought to my own experience let alone the
experiences of others. Museums Today: Missions and Function, however, has taught me to
emphasize the museum audience and the experience of visiting rather than the collection itself. The
concept of being audience focused rather than collections driven, is ... Show more content on

It is important to remember that not all learning occurs by reading labels or taking tours. Learning
about oneself or connecting to an object through quiet contemplation is just as valuable for learners
and still, fosters a relationship with acquiring knowledge. Allowing a visitor to choose how they
acquire knowledge in a way that best fits their needs is vital to creating a positive outlook regarding
the process of learning.
Another way that one can cultivate a love of learning in the museum is through engaging
exhibitions. The methodical approach that the Monterey Bay Aquarium takes in designing its
exhibitions exemplifies how to create engaging programming. The aquarium focuses on its mission,
the message of the exhibit, and the type of visitor they want to attract before they begin to plan the
exhibit itself. By using this method, the exhibition is guided by its message rather than by design. Of
course, an exhibition in which the meaning is readily apparent is more engaging than one that is
aesthetically pleasing but has an unclear message. Understanding the message gives the visitor the
opportunity to continue thinking about the collection long after they have left the museum. For this
reason, there are more avenues for learning as well. This kind planning shifts the focus to the
audience and how they interact with the collection rather than the collection itself, which is

mates, friends and family. So, I finally, had my destination set to and planned a visit to the Los

building layout and the many arts exhibited located all around the outside of the museum building.
There were several building that housed the many different art exhibits. Such as the first building I

housed voluminous and diverse art of the European, Islamic, South and Southeast Asian Art, Art of
the Ancient World, Art of the Pacific and Others. There were also many special exhibitions that was

building called "Smoke" really caught my attention. As it quite an enigmatic and stunning metal
sculpture that mesmerizes illusions based on your interpretation and perspective of the piece.

a passion worth supporting, some of which never succeeded. Mussorgsky seemed like a really nice

Even two decades later and during another exhibition, this time in London and at the royal academy
of Burlington, when for the first time the concept of Iranian nationality was inserted to the

exhibition had a greater aesthetic cause and Islamic art had been considered as a subdivision of the
art of the Persian nation. Burlington exhibition like its other European and American counterparts
was not simply an introductory show for the curious eyes of the European who were either looking
for different exotic artifacts to invent a new trend or making accurate estimations for their antique

Royal Exhibition History
Historical context
The Royal Exhibition Building is the architecture which assembles the history and spirits of the city
of Melbourne. It was built in 1880 by Reed and Barnes, who won the design competition of this
building, for Melbourne's first international exhibition with the purpose of demonstrating the
achievements acquired by industrialization and bringing people with confidence and enthusiasm.
The Centennial International Exhibition was subsequently held in 1888 in the building as
Melbourne's second international exhibition, which introduced Melbourne to the worldwide's view,
provided the opportunity for Melbourne to exchange ideas, goods and cultural values with other
countries and promoted trade and economic growth . It also hosted the opening site of Australia's
first Federal Parliament on 9 May 1901 and opened the first Australian War Memorial Museum in
the early 1920s. The building was restored in 1995 by Allom Lovell Associates and was later

What Was The Legacy Of The Great Exhibition Of 1851
The legacy of the Great Exhibition of 1851 started when Prince Albert, spouse of Queen Victoria
and president of the Royal Society of Arts, had the idea of an exhibition to impress the world with
Britain's industrial achievements, known as the Crystal Palace in 1849. Arrangements were
developed and the necessary funds were raised, with Victoria herself leading the list of donations.
Joseph Paxton was an english architect and horticulturist. Designed conservatory in gardens at
Chatsworth, which served as a model for his design of the Crystal Palace, built of plate–glass and

The Great Exhibition Of 1851 By Louis Haghe, Joseph Nash...
Compiled in 1854 by Louis Haghe, Joseph Nash and David Roberts, Dickinson 's Comprehensive
Pictures of the Great Exhibition of 1851 reveals large amounts of information regarding
exhibitionary cultures in the nineteenth century. The catalogue was produced for Prince Albert, who
was the patron of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce.
This source suggests the Great Exhibition followed a similar trend how museums mainly operated in
the nineteenth century. Most images in the catalogue represent the Victorian notion of progress,
making visitors react a certain way to exhibits and also influencing behaviour generally throughout
the museum to the same way that Foucault shows with the concept of the Panopticon. Using the
images of Moving Machinery, General View of the Exterior of the Building and The Transept in the
Comprehensive Pictures catalogue, this essay will analyse each of these images to show their
revelation of exhibitionary cultures, which means to critically understand attitudes to the way which
museums operate exhibitions. It will also examine how historians responded to the historiographical
debate surrounding the Great Exhibition, and argues that the Great Exhibition was generally
successful and that it had a mainstream exhibitionary culture compared with other museums in the
nineteenth century.

Role Of Havisham In Great Expectations
This dissertation explores the representation of Estella Havisham as the gothic Femme Fatale in
Dickens' Great Expectations. I will examine how Estella Havisham was imagined in Dickens' Great

These norms were influenced by various factors such as economy, domesticity, gender roles,
religion, imperialism, and much more. Amid the period symbolized by the rule of British ruler
Queen Victoria, women were not liable to have the right to sue, suffrage rights, or the right to own
property. In the meantime, women took part in the paid workforce in expanding numbers taking
after the Industrial Revolution. Feminist ideas spread among the informed female working classes,
the women's suffrage movement picked up force and discriminatory laws were cancelled in the last
years of the Victorian age. In the Victorian Era, women were thought as only fitting in with the
domestic sphere and this stereotype obliged them to limit themselves only to their household and
raising children. Alex Owen puts this Victorian ideal of woman in words as " The categorisation of
so–called female virtues found its expression in the sentimental and idealised notion of the
spiritually refined 'angel in the house'– woman as an angelic creature whose rightful sphere of
influence was the home and domesticity" (7). By making domesticity seem desirable to the
Victorian women they used such tools in order to keep them behind doors. Owen further explains
the Victorian feminine roles by pointing out, "In analysing many discourses which together
constituted the Victorian ideology of femininity, including the domestic literature written for, and
often by, women, it becomes clear that perspective understanding was underpinned by certain major
constituents. Among the most important of these was the notion of innate female passivity, a
negative attribute constructed in opposition to so–called masculine will–power. Along with this went
the concepts of female frailty, constructed in opposition to a standard masculine strength and

Strength Of Exhibition
Museums are places of learning and it would be a matter of time that they would tackle exhibits that
would make people unconformable. There are many topics that people find unconformable for
example slavery or the horrifying event of the Holocaust. These types of topics have emotional ties
to them that if they are done wrong could cause outrage with the public. They have to be handling
with care so not offend people especially if they are live through the event like the holocaust or had
family that were in slavery. There are strengths and limitation of these types of topics that make
people unconformable in the exhibit type of educations which includes living history performance.
In the paragraph below I will talk about the strength and weakness of the types of exhibition. Some
of the strengths of an exhibition of unconformable topics so long as they are handled with respect
and care. If they are done right they can have a huge impact on the viewer of the exhibition. An
example of the strength of these types of exhibitions would be exhibitions on the Holocaust all over
the world where they tell the stories of the people that who were prosecuted by the Nazi. The visitor

Some of these limitations are that people do not to be confronted with this these type of topic and

people will see it as performance and not as history that actually happen in the past. Some people

For this project, I chose the Tampa Museum of Art. My daughter Annabelle, who is eleven,
accompanied me. She is an aspiring young artist who loves to paint and assemble collages. This
paper will describe our trip, the museum's activities, and what was on exhibit. After which, I will
choose two works of art and preform an analysis on them. I will employ the formal elements and the
principles of design to engage the first piece, "The Great Journey". With my second choice "A
Group of Cubans who left Manzanillo are Rescued at Sea", I will discuss how applying an
alternative contextual analysis would help in understanding the meaning behind the painting more.
The museum was celebrating "Family Day" as well as Hispanic Heritage Month, so Annabelle and I

art making activities e.g. drawing and painting different objects with different media. After
Annabelle was finished, we watched the Sones de Mexico, a group of Hispanic children from all

regions of Mexico. The dances were honestly astounding and beautiful to watch. All the time and

  • 1. Eyewitness Exhibition In the Eyewitness Views exhibition at Getty, the viewer is submerged in the past. The exhibition primarily focuses on reliving the past golden era paintings of European art during its peak in the 18th century. This impressive collection of art works visual record the past events in vivid detail like for example royal celebrations, religious ceremonies, sporting contests and natural disasters. In other words, historical and everyday events are portrayed in the paintings by the skilled artists that present the illusion that the viewer is at that present time. Art history is recorded with more detail and memory that's the impression I encountered In this exhibition. However, at the same time, these events and could have also been manipulated ... Timothy Mitchell Timothy Mitchell – Orientalism and the Exhibitionary Order (1989) It is no longer unusual to suggeste that the construction of the colonial order is related to the eloboration of modern forms of representation and knowledge ( This has been examined by critique of Orientalism Best known analysis on Orientalism: Edward Said Orientalist world is defined by: 1. It is understood as the product of unchanging racial / cultural essences/ characteristics 2. These characteristics are always the opposite of the West (passive/ active, static/ mobile, emotional/ rational, chaotic/ ordered) 3. • 6. Zoos, Aquariums And Museum Nowadays, it is hard to find a person who has never been in a zoo, aquarium or museum. Since childhood we find it fancy to observe animals and exhibits, but sometimes even adults do not understand what the real value of zoos, aquariums and museums is. First, it is necessary to explain the main goals of these institutions which are to increase knowledge about the surrounding, to learn about conservation–related behavior and to build conservation principles. In order to fulfill these goals, modern zoos, aquariums and museums provide a huge range of possibilities such as arranging specific exhibitions ensuring visual experiences, presenting new information and joining the conservation organization (Yalowitz). In addition, the information given in an exhibition is not as memorable as it seems at first. After a week or more people are tend to forget the main message of the presentation. Thus, it means that zoos, aquariums and museums have to find a way how to increase an impact during people's visits. This is further shown by the fact that the follow–up visitors gain more knowledge than the first–time ones. In other words, the follow–up visitors are more likely to ... What is also worth mentioning is that information presented in an exposure has to comprise needs of every visitor, and zoos, aquariums and museums have to make it easy for everyone to understand and comprehend all that was shown and said. Other aspects such as age, gender, social group, ethnicity and basic level of knowledge should also be taken into consideration. Besides, another argument is that institutions should also provide programs for distinguishing motivations in order to fulfill one's expectations and to increase long–term knowledge (why zoos ... • 10. Introduction Of The Crystal Palace INTRODUCTION It was like–––like nothing but itself, unsurpassable, indescribable, unique, amazing, real! ––––Talli's History and Description of the Crystal Palace and the Exhibition of the World's Industry in 1851 From 1837 to 1901, under the reign of Queen Victoria, Great Britain, with the supremacy of its Royal Navy, had largely fulfilled its ambition of global imperial expansion in Asia and Africa particularly. As the British Empire soon became the largest empire in history, this era was later known as the "Victorian Era" (John 129). To further unite nations and demonstrate an imperial industrial and economic leadership of the world, Queen Victoria's husband, Prince Albert organized the first world's fair, namely, "The Great Exhibition of the Works of Industry of All Nations", at the Crystal Palace in Hyde Park, London, from May 1 to October 15 in 1851 (Celik 1). Not only did the diversity of the foreign goods displayed at the exhibition astonish the publics, but also the Crystal Palace, designed by Joseph Paxton and Owen Jones, as the striking structure that housed these articles attracted millions of visitors around the world during 1851 (Fig. 1). Later after the exhibition, the foreign articles were transferred to the South Kensington Museum (Crinson 65) as part of the "Imperial archive" (Barringer 11), to promote industrial and commercial education among domestic artisans and skilled labourers in the next fifty years, with a hope that the nation's economic growth ... Ever since the Great Exhibition was held, World Expo have already become a huge deal for many countries as they are significantly focused on gathering ideas that pave the way towards innovation and progress. In that sense, Expo 2020 has become a venue that allows countries, people and organizations to brainstorm innovative ideas which can further lead to partnership and collaboration between and among these parties. This explains the reason why Dubai is immensely honoured to host the Expo 2020, considering that the event provides an opportunity for the Emirate and the entire country to further drive their pursuit towards change in the economy, culture, and society. Expo 2020 is "one of the most internationally renewed global exhibitions "which is held every five years in a chosen host city and for every expo, there is a theme that will become the primary concentration of the event" (Dubai World Central, 2015). Hollywood Exhibition Industry The accusation of eight largest Hollywood companies _ Metro–Goldwyn–Mayer (MGM), Warner Bros., Columbia, United Artists, Paramount, Twentieth Century–Fox, RKO and Universal_ did not directly hurt movie attendance, but it did have a profound effect on film industry profitibility and stability. The studios acussed of of monopolizing film distribution and exhibition through ownership of first–run theaters and of participating in a variety of collusive practices. For the five majors, the government required the divorcement of production and distribution from exhibition. By cutting the link between production and exhibition, the consent decrees made film production a much less stable undertaking. Every film became a risk, for both producer and exhibitor while in the past the risk had been cushioned by the activities of a large company . The idea was that a breakup of the studios would end the control of exhibition and lead to greater competition throughout the film industry. • 18. The Educational Value of Exhibitions in Musuems Definition of exhibition Before proceeding to the discussion of relationship between exhibition, communication and education, the meaning of the term should be clarified first. The term exhibition implies several meanings owing to a movement within different context and style of each professional realm. As the definition shows in oxford dictionary, the word exhibition can be defined as 'a public display of works of art or items of interest, held in an art gallery or museum or at a trade fair', and it is also refer to synonyms 'display', 'show'. Similarly, here we can further defined the display as a method of communication and scenario that convey diverse content to the audience in certain period or a specific space with the purpose of information transmitting, promotion, education and enlightenment (Huang and Wu:1998, p.8). Although there is subtle difference of definition and the representative word of exhibition, it is noteworthy that we can hardly investigate the display apart from media, message, and audience. Exhibition, communication, and knowledge shaping. When it comes to the exhibition in museums, there is increasing discussion of museum as dialogue environment and its learning impacts on audience. Modern museums have gradually transferred their emphasis from collection, conservation and research to display and education. Besides the traditional functions of museum, 吉村典夫( 1979: 104–107) maintains that organisation is encouraged to develop responsibilities– ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Galleries and museums are an essential part of our society. Art in itself transcends cultural diversity and differences; the museums and galleries that display art present to us insight into the various cultures, backgrounds, and communities in an unprejudiced environment. For museum websites exhibition information is the heart of the website. When navigating these links on the two sites they are notably similar. Both websites categorize their exhibition information in subcategories equally including current, upcoming, past, and traveling as categories. Each one of these categories contains information and dates about what is or was on display. They also include photographic samples of the art on display at the museum. The Frist also includes some corresponding downloadable content for each of its exhibits. This content includes gallery guides, teacher guides, and suggested bibliography materials. • 22. Reflection On The Tampa Museum Of Art For this project, I chose to go to the Tampa Museum of Art. I took my eleven year old daughter Annabelle with me, she is an aspiring young artist who loves to paint and assemble collages. This paper will describe the museum's activities and what was on exhibit. After which, I will choose two works of art and do an in–depth analysis on them. I will use the formal elements and the principles of design to engage the artworks "The Great Journey" and "A Group of Cubans who left Manzanillo are Rescued at Sea". Yesterday (Oct, 15 2016), my daughter and I went to our first art museum together, which was the Tampa Museum of Art and I must say that it was truly interesting. I chose this particular painting for two reasons, one it validates why I chose the "The Great Journey" and two, it also juxtaposes it. "A Group of Cubans who left Manzanillo are Rescued at Sea" would be better understood with a contextual analysis. Knowing the history of the Cuban people, their political, economic, and social issues would shed some light on why so many risk their lives trying to make it to America. This painting is made for public viewing, to memorialize and remind people of an actual real life incident that occurred back in August of 2014. KHCO shows us Cuban survivors being pulled from the waters after being stranded at sea between Florida and Cuba, many died trying to reach American soil. The red resembles blood in the water, transforming feeling and ideas into a clear symbol of those lost while trying to flee their country. The impression this painting left on me is the same as the one the sculpture did, this unfathomable idea of living in such a place that would force me risk not only my life but the life of my children, just to ... The more children are given opportunities to recreate things they see in their everyday lives, the more they can create their own meaning and understanding of the world around them. Concept for My Mini-Exhibit:Tranquil Rhythms "The life of man in every part has need of harmony and rhythm" – Plato Adapted from the Everyday Magic Exhibit at GoMA, the concept for my mini exhibit is Tranquil Rhythms. The title clearly represents striking elements of the exhibit that bring all the pieces together. There will be 5 collections shown in the exhibit, they are; Untitled (from webs from my garden series) by Sandra Selig, Citizens Band by Angelica Mesiti, Untitled Cascade by Rebecca Baumann, Assorted Spices for Dinner and Daydreams by Mieko Shiomi and Silver Screen by Callum Morton. The artists all come together around three central ideas that being tranquillity, rhythm and play. These central ideas will be furthermore explored. Tranquillity is the quality or state of being calm/serene. It is a key part of the exhibition reflecting how the works combine in creating a peaceful, calm environment. This is done through different elements, including music, calming movements or from observation of an art piece. Citizens Band is filmed media portraying tranquillity through audio as well as visual means. Each of the four performers produces music that isn't particularly hard hitting but instead calm, adding to the peaceful environment of the exhibition. Through a little research on the internet, a website called "Bodies Revealed" informed me of the process used to preserve the bodies, which is known as "polymer preservation." The bodies that are used first are embalmed according to standard procedures and perfused with a preserving agent to prevent the normal tissue decay that takes place after death. After the body is embalmed, a trained dissector prepares it, or a part of it, according to predetermined guidelines. Because of the degree of difficulty involved in dissecting a full body specimen, it can take several months to complete. If the dissector is working with individual organs, they can be prepared much more quickly. After the dissection is complete, the specimens are thoroughly rinsed in cold running water, which removes as much of the preserving agent as possible. Rinsing a full–body specimen can take up to one week to finish. After the rinsing, the specimen is ready to be dehydrated. They dehydrate the specimens by placing it in acetone, which acts to replace all of the tissue water present in the specimen. The specimen is then impregnated with a mixture of liquid silicone polymer and a crosslinker. The polymer hardens during a curing process, which leaves a dry, odorless specimen that doesn't decompose. I had the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Home Design in the 19th Century Essay Home Design in the 19th Century Home decorating styles changed dramatically during the middle part of the 1800's, even though design began to refer back to the styles the century had begun with as it came to an end. This difference in popular taste did not just evolve because of the passage of time, however; new technological advancements in furniture production and an increased interest in the arts of Asia influenced home décor. The changing British culture manifested itself in how the middle–class decorated their homes, and how they perceived themselves. In the earlier part of the 19th century, tastes tended toward lighter looks. According to The Victorian Web online site, "Satinwood was in vogue and a light finish for mahogany ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Crystal Palace Exhibition of 1851 was a landmark because it featured furniture so ornate it became tasteless . Stokstad's Art History (Revised Edition) describes the concern over the designs featured in the show by saying, "The elaboration of decorative elements at the expense of function and good taste distressed many, including the event's organizers" (1006). The excess had gone too far; the Victorians needed a change. William Morris, "convinced that industrialism itself was the problem" (1006), began to design furniture with a medieval, yet more basic, style. He endorsed the benefits of hand crafting pieces, stressing the importance of work by people rather than machines. Not all of the Morris furniture was expensive, either: the chair on the right side of figure 6, below, was a "cheap, simple, and basic...hand crafted alternative to the vulgar excess" of previous years (Stokstad 1007). The social unrest at the time was translated into furniture trends. Near the end of the century, dark, heavy furniture was transformed into lighter looking and lighter–colored again. This was partly due to the increasing interest in the simplicity of Japanese designs; "bamboo, and blue and white china" replaced the ornate knickknacks. At the same time, perhaps as a reaction to the influence of foreign cultures, collecting antique furniture became popular. Again, Jane Eyre is not excluded from this trend: she ... Her name was Mary Margaret Sandbothe and her collection of art was at the MFA Thesis Exhibition. Now, I am not one for looking at art and being able to interpret it easily, but when I arrived to see her work I was pleasantly surprised. I was in awe of artwork at first glance. First, what I noticed was that the main overlook of all her pieces included same sex relationships or couples. Furthermore, it exemplified families with same sex parents. Lastly, she had another piece of two men looking marry while holding a newborn baby. This could possibly mean that they had adopted or fostered a child. This essay will discuss what he means by this phrase, why this is socially and politically significant, and provide an example of a historic exhibition where "strategic systems of representations" was evident. Exhibitions have motives which extend beyond the walls of art institutions. We know this because Ferguson characterises exhibitions as "strategic systems of representation; strategies whose aim is the wholesale conversion of its audience to sets of prescribed values to alter social relations" (Greenberg, Reesa, Bruce W. As exhibitions seek to benefit and promote the desires and values from within this "network of interests" then we as viewers are simply told how to understand art, what is valuable and what is to be discarded. • 58. Museum Reflection Throughout this course, I have reaffirmed my desire to engage others in the process of learning. I have always been fascinated by the potential museums possess to involve visitors in inquiry and even cultivate a love for learning. Accordingly, my goal has always been to bring my passion for learning to museum visitors. Due to my background in archaeology, I have always given the bulk of my attention to objects within museums, giving little thought to my own experience let alone the experiences of others. Museums Today: Missions and Function, however, has taught me to emphasize the museum audience and the experience of visiting rather than the collection itself. The concept of being audience focused rather than collections driven, is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is important to remember that not all learning occurs by reading labels or taking tours. Learning about oneself or connecting to an object through quiet contemplation is just as valuable for learners and still, fosters a relationship with acquiring knowledge. Allowing a visitor to choose how they acquire knowledge in a way that best fits their needs is vital to creating a positive outlook regarding the process of learning. Another way that one can cultivate a love of learning in the museum is through engaging exhibitions. The methodical approach that the Monterey Bay Aquarium takes in designing its exhibitions exemplifies how to create engaging programming. The aquarium focuses on its mission, the message of the exhibit, and the type of visitor they want to attract before they begin to plan the exhibit itself. By using this method, the exhibition is guided by its message rather than by design. Of course, an exhibition in which the meaning is readily apparent is more engaging than one that is aesthetically pleasing but has an unclear message. Understanding the message gives the visitor the opportunity to continue thinking about the collection long after they have left the museum. For this reason, there are more avenues for learning as well. This kind planning shifts the focus to the audience and how they interact with the collection rather than the collection itself, which is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 60. The Los Angeles County Museum Of Art For my enrichment report, I decided to take a trip to the Los Angeles County Museum. However, I was trapped with the challenging choice of choosing only one museum for my cultural visit. Since, there are so many prodigious and amazing museums to choose from to visit in the county. But, I have heard many great feedbacks about the Los Angeles County Museum of Art from fellow classes mates, friends and family. So, I finally, had my destination set to and planned a visit to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Upon my visit my attention was already fixated on the unique building layout and the many arts exhibited located all around the outside of the museum building. There were several building that housed the many different art exhibits. Such as the first building I walked into, after purchasing a ticket. This building was called the "Ahmanson" building, which housed voluminous and diverse art of the European, Islamic, South and Southeast Asian Art, Art of the Ancient World, Art of the Pacific and Others. There were also many special exhibitions that was hosted at the time of my visit, such as the modern art gallery and Rifkin Gallery for German Expressionism. One of the sculpture centered in the middle of the building of the "Ahmanson" building called "Smoke" really caught my attention. As it quite an enigmatic and stunning metal sculpture that mesmerizes illusions based on your interpretation and perspective of the piece. Granted, there were defiantly a lot of sensational ... I know this was not the case for his entire lifetime, but for the beginning of it up to a certain point that is how it was even though that wasn't his choice. There are a ton of musicians who had to convince their parents that music was a passion worth supporting, some of which never succeeded. Mussorgsky seemed like a really nice guy to be around. I found it very interesting that he started learning piano at such a young age from his mother who was a piano teacher. I found it interesting that he wasn't always into music from the beginning it wasn't the only thing he ever did. He joined a regiment for the military and served in it for quite some time. I like how important his family was to him for example as soon as his mother began to get sick he went straight to live with her and was by her bedside until she passed ... It has several permanent exhibitions containing over 2,500 works of art ("Mission and History") and also features new collections and works of art that it rotates out. PolkMuseumofArt.org explains which exhibitions are currently displayed and is updated to include upcoming events, descriptions of collections, and artists' bios and statements on their works, as well as classes, camps, and speakers that will be held or featured at the museum ("Upcoming Events"). For instance, I read about the three mixed media collages by David Maxim, studied the picture of one of them, Time's Speed, and searched for it when we arrived at the Polk Museum of Art; I was interested to see how the artist's "signature expressive style, with its energetic line and spilled color, contributes to depicting power and the anxiety of being impacted by that power ("Current Exhibitions")." When I found it, however, I was shocked at how much larger it was than what I expected, and the splattered bulbs of fabric and rope hung off the canvas as large as my head, compared to the size of a golf ball I had been imagining. In addition, being in the actual place with the artwork was a much more educational experience than trying to glean knowledge from the web; seeing the physical objects made them so much more interesting, and interacting with the docent was much more informative than reading paragraphs, since we could ask her questions and hear her anecdotes. For instance, in the Ancient Art of the Americas gallery, our kind tour guide described the cultures and people that used the artifacts we saw, which without her information might have been easy to gloss over. She told us about how some cultures in Mexico would use Chihuahuas as a food source and how they were therefore depicted in art, and pointed at sculptures that I would have otherwise looked at with no understanding. Yet since she explained it, I remember it clearly, unlike the information on that same exhibit that I read from the website such as, "The objects date from c. 800 BCE to c. 1500 CE and include ceramics, textiles, stone carvings, and precious metal pieces ("About Our Collection")." • 66. The Burlington Exhibitions Even two decades later and during another exhibition, this time in London and at the royal academy of Burlington, when for the first time the concept of Iranian nationality was inserted to the exhibition theme, nothing emancipatory happened to the art of the Muslims. Moreover this time the exhibition had a greater aesthetic cause and Islamic art had been considered as a subdivision of the art of the Persian nation. Burlington exhibition like its other European and American counterparts was not simply an introductory show for the curious eyes of the European who were either looking for different exotic artifacts to invent a new trend or making accurate estimations for their antique collection. Along with other exhibitions it contributed to the formation of a discipline; however before the authentic academic purposes, it was in the service of constructing a strong national identity for Iranians who were trying to gain recognition with the help of cultural capitals. ... What Was The Legacy Of The Great Exhibition Of 1851 The legacy of the Great Exhibition of 1851 started when Prince Albert, spouse of Queen Victoria and president of the Royal Society of Arts, had the idea of an exhibition to impress the world with Britain's industrial achievements, known as the Crystal Palace in 1849. Arrangements were developed and the necessary funds were raised, with Victoria herself leading the list of donations. Joseph Paxton was an english architect and horticulturist. • 72. The Great Exhibition Of 1851 By Louis Haghe, Joseph Nash... Compiled in 1854 by Louis Haghe, Joseph Nash and David Roberts, Dickinson 's Comprehensive Pictures of the Great Exhibition of 1851 reveals large amounts of information regarding exhibitionary cultures in the nineteenth century. The catalogue was produced for Prince Albert, who was the patron of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce. This source suggests the Great Exhibition followed a similar trend how museums mainly operated in the nineteenth century. Most images in the catalogue represent the Victorian notion of progress, making visitors react a certain way to exhibits and also influencing behaviour generally throughout the museum to the same way that Foucault shows with the concept of the Panopticon. Using the images of Moving Machinery, General View of the Exterior of the Building and The Transept in the Comprehensive Pictures catalogue, this essay will analyse each of these images to show their revelation of exhibitionary cultures, which means to critically understand attitudes to the way which museums operate exhibitions. It will also examine how historians responded to the historiographical debate surrounding the Great Exhibition, and argues that the Great Exhibition was generally successful and that it had a mainstream exhibitionary culture compared with other museums in the nineteenth century. The glorification of the country 's engineering achievements is depicted in the Moving Machinery image. The huge structures of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 74. Role Of Havisham In Great Expectations This dissertation explores the representation of Estella Havisham as the gothic Femme Fatale in Dickens' Great Expectations. I will examine how Estella Havisham was imagined in Dickens' Great Expectations and how her personality was shaped into the Victorian era. I will explore the character of Estella Havisham as a Narcissist, taking into account the works of psychoanalysts like Sigmund Freud, Lou Andreas Salome and Salvok Zizek in order to further elaborate her character as a Femme Fatale. Dickens' work is famous for its in–depth detail of its key characters; therefore, it is important to discuss Miss Havisham and the character of Pip to bring into the light the true character of Estella Havisham as the Gothic Femme Fatale in Dickens' ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These norms were influenced by various factors such as economy, domesticity, gender roles, religion, imperialism, and much more. Amid the period symbolized by the rule of British ruler Queen Victoria, women were not liable to have the right to sue, suffrage rights, or the right to own property. In the meantime, women took part in the paid workforce in expanding numbers taking after the Industrial Revolution. Feminist ideas spread among the informed female working classes, the women's suffrage movement picked up force and discriminatory laws were cancelled in the last years of the Victorian age. In the Victorian Era, women were thought as only fitting in with the domestic sphere and this stereotype obliged them to limit themselves only to their household and raising children. Alex Owen puts this Victorian ideal of woman in words as " The categorisation of so–called female virtues found its expression in the sentimental and idealised notion of the spiritually refined 'angel in the house'– woman as an angelic creature whose rightful sphere of influence was the home and domesticity" (7). By making domesticity seem desirable to the Victorian women they used such tools in order to keep them behind doors. Owen further explains the Victorian feminine roles by pointing out, "In analysing many discourses which together constituted the Victorian ideology of femininity, including the domestic literature written for, and often by, women, it becomes clear that perspective understanding was underpinned by certain major constituents. Among the most important of these was the notion of innate female passivity, a negative attribute constructed in opposition to so–called masculine will–power. Along with this went the concepts of female frailty, constructed in opposition to a standard masculine strength and virility; a moral and spiritual sensibility which acted as the ... • 76. Strength Of Exhibition Museums are places of learning and it would be a matter of time that they would tackle exhibits that would make people unconformable. There are many topics that people find unconformable for example slavery or the horrifying event of the Holocaust. These types of topics have emotional ties to them that if they are done wrong could cause outrage with the public. They have to be handling with care so not offend people especially if they are live through the event like the holocaust or had family that were in slavery. There are strengths and limitation of these types of topics that make people unconformable in the exhibit type of educations which includes living history performance. In the paragraph below I will talk about the strength and weakness of the types of exhibition. Some of the strengths of an exhibition of unconformable topics so long as they are handled with respect and care. If they are done right they can have a huge impact on the viewer of the exhibition. An example of the strength of these types of exhibitions would be exhibitions on the Holocaust all over the world where they tell the stories of the people that who were prosecuted by the Nazi. The visitor would be able to understand what happen to these people who survived and did not survive through this horrible event like what a train boxcar would mean to someone people ... She is an aspiring young artist who loves to paint and assemble collages. This paper will describe our trip, the museum's activities, and what was on exhibit. After which, I will choose two works of art and preform an analysis on them. I will employ the formal elements and the principles of design to engage the first piece, "The Great Journey". With my second choice "A Group of Cubans who left Manzanillo are Rescued at Sea", I will discuss how applying an alternative contextual analysis would help in understanding the meaning behind the painting more. The museum was celebrating "Family Day" as well as Hispanic Heritage Month, so Annabelle and I were able to enjoy all the special activities that were being held. She was able to partake in all the art making activities e.g. drawing and painting different objects with different media. After Annabelle was finished, we watched the Sones de Mexico, a group of Hispanic children from all around the bay area. The group of dancers performed traditional dances from all over the different regions of Mexico. The dances were honestly astounding and beautiful to watch. All the time and effort that those young children put in, just to learn the dances is remarkable. Furthermore, the fact that they are working so diligently to keep their heritage alive and thriving here in the US is inspiring. My daughter and I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
