- Slide 2: The Problem: Getting Gas • Why are gas prices so high? This is because of the supply-demand ratio for gas. We do not have enough gas to meet everyone's needs. For example, let’s say someone, Fred, started selling chips for $0.30 each. Thousands of people from all over the world came to buy his chips. Fred would have no choice but to sell his chips at higher prices to make some customers leave but at the same time attract some. This is the same with gas. Everyone needs gas and there is not enough gas to go around. Prices are being raised to prevent many people from buying gas.
