Digital Immigrants In The 21st Century
Born in the digital age and surrounded by digital products, students today are referred as "digital
natives" who have gained specific technical skills and are fundamentally different from the older
generations in the way of thinking and processing information, thus they require a new educational
approach (Prensky, 2001). To engage with the younger generations, Prensky (2001) suggests that
educators, who are considered as digital immigrants, should change their teaching methodology and
content. As the development of information technology in the 21st century has significantly
increased the speed and greatly ameliorates the way students communicate and gather information,
digital technologies such as computers and digital games are now suggested

The Effects Of Media On Young Audiences
Violence in the media has become a hot topic of discussion due to its potential effects on young
audiences. While content on broadcast networks such as ABC and NBC is regulated by the Federal
Communications Commission (FCC), premium channels like the Home Box Office (HBO) do not
fall under their jurisdiction and therefore do not need to obey such regulations (Title 47). A prime
example of graphic violence on television that falls outside of the FCC's purview is found in the
HBO hit series Game of Thrones. The ninth episode of the third season of Game of Thrones, "The
Rains of Castamere", is well–known as one of the most violent episodes in the show. This is mostly
attributed to a specific scene in this episode, known by the book readers as the Red Wedding. The
scene is one of the most violent scenes in all of Game of Thrones history. The Red Wedding scene
was quite controversial after it aired in 2013, with some arguing that it was too violent, even for an
HBO television show. Others stated that they thought the violence was necessary considering the
historical references mentioned, and the way the book was written. I believe that the purpose of the
violence and gore found in Game of Thrones, and more specifically "The Rains of Castamere", is to
replicate the way modern audiences think of the Dark Ages. It also stands to entice the original
readers of the novels who would expect the violence of the show to live up to that in the books. The
violence in "The Rains of

Fashion And The World Of Fashion
The world of fashion is always changing and new trends are always emerging. The ways by which
trends and fashion news are communicated to the public has evolved as technology advances.
Before television and the internet, it was difficult for designers, photographers, and fashion brands
alike to spread word about the latest in fashion to a large mass of people. With the help of modern
technology, fashion has made its mark in the world by appearing on television networks, online
blogs, social media, and digital magazines. In the past, fashion was viewed as something to which
only privileged people could have access. It was hard to keep up with trends because it was not mass
communicated in the same way that it is today. Fashion shows were the best way to see the newest
styles and collections from high–end designers. However, it is difficult do attend these shows
because the tickets go to celebrities, socialites, and other prominent people in the fashion world.
Harvard professor, Jeannie Suk, notes that the "growing ease of travel and communication" has
made the dissemination of fashion much easier (Harvard Magazine). Another way fashion was
accessible was through magazines. The most common way people stayed caught up with fashion
was through magazines because they were affordable and up to date. Suk also employs that the mass
production of newspapers and other forms of publication has helped "fashion trends spread rapidly"
(Harvard Magazine). Nowadays, technology is

How Organisational Structure and Strategic Planning Can...
Strategic planning is important for all businesses because this is when they set there aims and will
discuss how they can achieve that aim. These aims have to be realistic and the owners will discuss
this with their workers. Some aims might be hard to get but executives will want their workers to
push hard so that it can be achieved. Marks and Spencer's aim was to be the best supermarket in
Britain but the recession had affected them really bad giving them losses of over 100 million
pounds. Currently they are making profits of 50 million pounds but it is nowhere near what they
made a few years ago.
Strategic planning will show what direction the business is going to achieve its aims. The planning
may last for up to 4 years and is drawn ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Next are a smaller company than Marks and they have made more than 873 million pounds in
profits. John Lewis has also done well and they have been doing well since the start of 2011. John
Lewis and Next have been doing really well because they have made changes in prices and the
offers that are being made are worth the money. Gradually as more people start buying the product
they will increase the price.
John Lewis who's partners with Waitrose has benefitted them and Waitrose. John Lewis needed a
good start to the year as at the end of 2010 they suffered heavy losses with the snow showers. They
made losses over 30 million at Christmas time which is where spending is high and is the time
where John Lewis makes a lot of sales. John Lewis has been expanding over London and they are
going to open a new store in Westfield's in Newham. Opening a store in Westfield's is good for
business but they may have competition from other stores in Westfield's. John Lewis has a big store
in Kingston and that is where they have been making a lot of profit and they are planning to build
more stores in London as that's where most people are spending.
Marks do have financial backing but they need to improve areas that are weak. There online website

Digital Divide And Stereotypes
Introduction
Firstly recorded in the report of the National Telecommunications and Information Administration
(NTIA) survey in 1995, (Servon, 2002), the term Digital Divide presents an interesting quandary of
information and communication technologies (ICT) disparities among countries in the world,
especially between developed and developing countries. Many reports even showed that access to
ICT in these information "have" and "have–nots" countries was unequally even (Bridges.org, 2001;
Fuchs & Horak, 2008; Norris, 2001 ; Van Dijk, 2009). Nonetheless, though inequities in access to
ICT are most evident across countries, the same pattern is found within the countries themselves. In
the U.S, for example, the gap in ICT access does exist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In my poster, I used an image of old lady from Swongled Media (2008) to represent the concept of
digital immigrants. Prensky (2001a, p. 8 ), in his first article "Digital Natives, Digital Immigrants",
describes this term as those older generations "who were not born into the digital world". After years
of living in "pre–digital lifestyles" (Selwyn, 2009, p. 369 ), the digital immigrants have been
transformed into a group of "asylum seekers" in digital media world (Byne & Ross, 2007, p. 4 ). It
means that these older people are forced to adapt if they really want to be connected. Likewise, even
though some of digital immigrants can use technology, most of them still consider it as "something
foreign" (Kennedy et al., 2008). Consequently, the digital immigrants may find online experience
"anarchic, superficial and/or threatening" (Dufresne & Bethke, 2005), due to their entrenched value
in traditional discourse of information gathering. O'Hara and Steven (2006, p. 88) even claims that
the digital immigrants require more attention due to their ICT skills which are "second hand, slightly
forced and has to be learned". In other words, digital immigrants are seen as groups of people who
are older and less familiar as well as uncomfortable with technology. Following to that, the
divergent notion of digital immigrants is digital natives. I portrayed this concept by using an image

generation with technology In Marc Prensky article, "Digital Natives, Digital Immigrants. Do you
think that technology has already introduced to the world? There are many people using the
technology, but some people don't use it because of their age. It was published to the Horizon (MCB

different between the old generation and the new one; also she mentioned about hoe the technology
is affecting people especially the new generation. Also, people with different generation have
different things, as their style, slang clothes, body and adornments. So people changed from each
generation; however, students have not changed incrementally from the old generation style, slang

Wassily Kandinsky Research Paper
Research Paper: Wassily Kandinsky
Shelby Steinbach
Des Moines Area Community College
April 2017
Wassily Kandinsky has been part of my fascination and love for art for approximately ten years now.
Beginning when I was a freshman in high school, and every year as part of our art classes, my
instructor would do small units on art theory and highlight artists throughout those units, Kandinsky
included. While my talents, in particular, are somewhat limited to what I can represent, Kandinsky
was the first to break Western art's most "important rule:" that art need to depict anything (Frank,
396). As the first to break away from art being representational, Kandinsky opened other avenues of
expression, as well (Wassily–Kandinsky.org). Surrealism, the movement I am most fascinated by, is
something I believe is a natural extension from art representing nothing, to art representing multiple
things. Der Blaue Reiter, painted in 1903 is important for several reasons. Leaning more towards
Impressionism, it is one of the more famous paintings from ... Show more content on

a mixture of geometric and irregular shapes. Nearly as far from Impressionism as one could become,
this painting is supposed to reference the "opportunities of life" and how death can in so many and
various ways, take life away (Learnodo–newtonic.com). "The more abstract is form, the more clear
and direct is its appeal," are words not only written in the 1914 book by Kandinsky referenced
throughout my paper, but also shown clearly here in On White II (Concerning the Spiritual in Art,

Metadata Quality : Importance, Standards, Assessment, And...
Metadata Quality: Importance, Standards, Assessment, and Challenges
Metadata is a vital aspect of information organization today. Without quality metadata, the worth of
collections is diminished and the ability for records to be used is non–existent (Park & Tosaka,
2010). Thus, metadata is the cornerstone of library systems, and it is imperative for academic
research. Further, if standards for metadata are not established, there is no agreed upon quality,
making interoperability of records impossible (Park, 2009). Despite the obvious importance of
quality metadata, little work has been done to develop a standard or best practice guideline. The
National Information Standards Organization (NISO) has established six principles that make up ...

Thus, metadata quality cannot be assessed by a full MARC record. Instead, catalogers must use
other assessment methods. For instance, Bruce and Hillman assess quality metadata through a seven
layer framework: completeness, accuracy, provenance, conformance to expectations, logical
consistency and coherence, timeliness, and accessibility (David & Thomas, 2015). A different
proposal from Stvilia and Gasser (2008) propose a system of assessment that analyzes metadata
records both empirically and analytically. This allows records to have sound metadata quality, but
does not require a quality above what is functional for a record. Zschocke and Beniest (2011)
advocate a quality assurance method that utilizes peer–review and automation to check metadata
while it is being created. One of the leading tools used to evaluate metadata currently is its
usefulness to end–users. If end–users are supplied with numerous application of records, then the
quality of the metadata is higher than a record whose applications for an end–user are minute (Park
& Tosaka, 2010). The study of Park and Tosaka (2010) reveals that the most commonly used
assessment of metadata is the application of accuracy and consistency. If a record is accurate and
consistent, it is valued over a complete record because accuracy and consistency can be checked and
assessed on all record types, unlike other forms of assessment. Intrigued by Tosaka and Park, three

The Success Of Louis Vuitton Essay
Louis Vuitton was a French box–producer and packer who established the extravagance brand of the
same name in excess of 150 years back. From humble beginnings in the French field, Vuitton 's
aptitude, development and determination rapidly saw his mark trunks desired by the world 's tip top.
Presently, with Marc Jacobs in charge as innovative chief since 1997, the house has extended its
putting forth to incorporate packs, apparel, shoes, frill and adornments, making it a standout
amongst the most profitable extravagance marks on the planet.
Vuitton was conceived on August 4, 1821 in Anchay, a little common laborers settlement in the east
of France. His dad, Xavier Vuitton, was a rancher and his mom, Coronne Gaillard – who passed on
when he was 10 – a mill operator.
At 13 years old, drained of common life and of his strict stepmother, Vuitton left home for Paris.
The 292 mile venture took him two years by walking with stops to complete odd employments to
help himself along the way.
Upon entry in Paris in 1837, Vuitton turned into a student at a fruitful box–production and pressing
workshop – a specialty that was exceptionally regarded at the time. Inside a couple of years he had
picked up a notoriety for being one of the best in his field in the city.
Vuitton 's fortunes climbed again in 1853 when he was named the individual box–creator and packer
of the Empress of France, Eugenie de Montijo – the wife of Napoleon Bonaparte. The Empress

Digital And Digital Immigrants By Marc Presky
The article "Digital Natives, Digital Immigrants" by Marc Presky, appears in the book On the
Horizon. The article asserts that due to the the anacrusis of the digital age, this generation has
changed dramatically, thus, it is no longer possible to reach them through obsolete teaching
methods, as it comes close to teaching them in a foreign language. In order to solve this issue,
Presky suggests that we need to update our methodology in order to fit today's needs better.
In the beginning of the article, Prensky implies that student have changed dramatically, thus, are no
longer the correct audience for our education system. He goes on by explaining that this change is
not exactly a diversification, as in clothes, slang or the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Digital Natives, Digital Immigrants. Page. 2 – 2001), as he emphasises it. To furthermore clarify this
term, he names many examples such as "bringing people physically into your office to see an
interesting web site" (Prensky, Mark. Digital Natives, Digital Immigrants. Page. 2 – 2001) instead of
"sending them an email" (Prensky, Mark. Digital Natives, Digital Immigrants. Page. 2 – 2001).
Prensky complicates this matter when he embeds it into school routine. He endorses that to digital
natives it feels like they are being taught by foreigners who have no wrap their head around English
language yet.
However, this is a dilemma that only starts, rather than ends, at the lack of communication. By
introducing another example, he disputes that there is also a quarrel in the way of thinking in
general. Digital natives, for example, believe that studying should be fun and could easily be done,
while, for example, watching TV. This Digital Immigrants, however, deny up to this day; simply
because they were not capable of doing all those things, while they were young.
He then reminds us that, in spite of prevailing belief, one cannot simply presume that students
function the same way their teachers did when they were in school. As a result of this, he enters the
debate whether "students should go back to their old ways or if teachers should have to learn this
new language" (Prensky, Mark. Digital Natives, Digital

That all ended when Dagger got a call about his nemesis sheir. He was apparently gathering illegal

Marc Lepine and the Montreal Massacre
On December 6th, 1989, the Ecole Polytechnique engineering school in Montreal would –
unbeknownst to everyone in the building – become the backdrop for one of the worst mass murder
incidents in Canadian history. 14 women were shot and killed at the hands of a shooter named Marc
Lepine, and 13 others were gravely wounded in the process (Maser, 1987). No outright reason was
apparent other than the letters left on his suicide note, but it marked a troubled life that began from
his troubled childhood. Factors that may have led up to this incident needs to be examined in further
detail, using a psychological explanation and a criminological theory. This paper will use the social
learning theory to analyze the behaviours that led up to this ... Show more content on

Eventually, he ended his rampage in a third floor lecture hall where he shot and wounded several
more people before ending his own life. Suicide notes found on him revealed that his motives were
based on his hatred for feminists, stating that they have "ruined his life". It also revealed a hit list
containing 15 public figures, probably found through news media sources, but stated that he was
unable to act upon it. Instead, all his victims turned out to be strangers that were unfortunate enough
to be caught in the killing spree (Maser, 1987).
Family Background
Details about Marc Lepine and his life began to surface after the initial incident, uncovering an
unpleasant childhood and a broken home. Born with the name of Gamil Gharbi, he had an Algerian
father and a mother of French descent. The father was a relatively successful businessman that did
most of his work overseas; the mother, Monique, was a nurse with a good family background
(Weston & Aubrey, 1990). The family was well off due to their career success, but what looked like
a perfect marriage on paper was horrific for the mother and the children behind closed doors.
Described as "a very brutal man who did not seem to have any control of his emotions" (MacDonell
et al., 1989, para. 3), Marc's father treated his wife like a servant and often physically abused her for
the most minor nuances. The kids were subject to similar treatment and the mom was forbidden to

PSYCHOLOGY PERSPECTIVE
ABSTRACT
Marc Lepine, a 25 year old boy entered the corridors of Montreal's École Polytechnique University
and started separating boys and girls. He then opened fire and killed 14 girls (The Montreal
Massacre – Gunman massacres 14 women, 1989). Looking into Marc's case deeply and studying his
childhood reveals that his actions can be significantly explained using psychological theories such
as Miller and Dollard's Four Stage theory, the idea of lacking empathy and Bowlby's and
Ainsworth's attachment theory. This paper not only depicts the effect of the psychological deviant
behaviours but also its connection to above mentioned theories. Steps have been taken to take this ...

When he separated all the girls onto a corner, one girls tried explaining him that they are not
feminists, just ordinary girls wanting to be engineers. He was so carried away by his hatred that he
addressed all the engineering students as feminists "women who are going to be engineers are a
bunch of feminists" (Eglin and Hester, 2003) and killed them. In Marc's life, just as in any criminal's
life, the absence of empathy played a major role in making him a criminal and committing a crime.
DOLLARD AND MILLER STAGES
Dollard and Miller talk about four essential stages in ones childhood. All the four stages are
important for the proper development. If any of the stages is missing, it can have negative results
throughout the life. The four stages are feeding, cleanliness, early sex training and anger / anxiety
management. No evidence of a faulty training on the first three issues is present in Marc's Life.
However, fault at the fourth stage, anger/anxiety management, was present and played a major role
in leading him to commit the crime. With the lack of the fourth stage development, an individual is
not able to control his anger. If not worked on this, over time this becomes very dangerous and can
lead to destructing results.
The atmosphere he grew up seldom showed any anger / aggression management. His father used to
physically abuse him and his mother for very little mistakes. As a child, he learnt the only way to get

Munich in 1900. In 1903 and 1907, he spent time in France, intensely in Paris, visiting the city's
museums and copying many paintings, a conventional way for artists to study and improve

This Tierschicksale is one of the most popular landscapes drawn by Franz Marc. It characteristic of
the sense of apocalypse that began to taint Marc's work and is relate to his feelings on the

Moreover, this landscape created an emphasis (focal point). An animal is clearly shown in the
central of the landscape and creates a focal dominance.
Marc clarifies that he began to see the ugliness in animals which he had previously thought only
existed in humans. The use of lines and geometric shapes in this landscape carried the emotional
charge previously conveyed by animals. This landscape related to Marc's ideas on the impending
war. Marc was part of the school of thought that the war would purify and redeem the

Marc Chagall
Marc Chagall as an artist and as a person cannot be categorized. He was born in Vitebsk, Russia,
learned to paint in St. Petersburg and lived in Paris, Berlin, and the United States. His career is
influenced by many different factors. His Hasidic Jewish upbringing reflected in the content of his
paintings greatly. The lyrical fairy tales of Jewish mysticism, the stories of the Bible, and the Rabbis
and scholars who surrounded him in his childhood come out onto his work. When he went to art
school in St. Petersburg it was the period when he became exposed to the avant–garde movement in
art.

Chagall in order to continue painting used a patterned tablecloth instead of a canvas. He did not
disguise this surface but retained elements of it in his composition. You can see the pattern over the
fiddler's shoulder and on his leg. He has the fiddler floating in mid–air with the town below him
above and beside him. The different buildings in the town are arranged in geometric shapes and
lines. The most important thing as in all Chagall compositions is the symbolism. The fiddler
symbolizes severa!l things at once, a memory from Chagall's childhood, from his homeland and on a
personal level himself. His childhood memory was that of his uncle Neuch who didn't play the
violin very well but who was enthusiastic when he played it. Its wider Russian significance is that of
the failed revolution of 1905. The leader of this revolution was a Jewish fiddler named Edouard
Sormus, who led workers through the streets to fight for their rights. Chagall saw himself in the
fiddler, a solitary individual, isolated by the strangeness and mystery of art. The whole build–up of
the painting reinforces the poetical dimension of the picture. This painting was important to Chagall.
He used the symbol of the fiddler in other composition, for example The Violinist (1911), and The
Green Violinist (1923–24).
Another major work of his, the painting I and the Village (1911–1914) suggests the complexities of
opposition and unity, the confrontation

Marc Chagall was a Russian/French artist who was born into a poor family of Hassidic Jews on the
7th July 1887. Throughout his working life he was based in Russia from 1906–1910, then he moved
to France for four more years before moving back to Russia and Soviet Belarus for eight years.
Chagall was strongly influenced, but not limited to, movements such as Cubism, Fauvism and

This is because of the circle in the middle of the artwork joining the man, the goat and the
background.
This artwork is a surreal representation of the town of Vitebsk where Chagall grew up. Chagall is
trying to comment of the relationship of people with the land, which is demonstrated by the man
looking at the goat as an equal and also by the woman milking a goat. As there are in many of
Chagall's works, there is a spiritual reference in this artwork. The goat and the Star of David are the
symbolic references. The goat is a great symbol of sacrifice for the Jewish religion. The colours in
the artwork are reminiscent of the circus or other flamboyant events. The man could represent the
ringmaster. This could all show the way in which man lives in harmony with animals and the
environment. The large circle in the middle of the page could symbolise the sun and the all the chaos
surrounding it could show that the earth and everything on it is dependent on the sun for life. The
bright colours could also symbolise the fake world, opposed to that of the world when Chagall grew
up.
In "The Green Violinist" (1923–24) we see a green man wearing a purple coat, which is composed
of geometrical shapes. He is placed in the centre of the artwork and is standing on or floating in the
air above a couple of houses playing a violin. The fact that he is the only object that is coloured
brightly in secondary colours compared to the rest of

accommodate them, or should they accommodate us?" Using such a prominent metaphor raises the
eyebrows of Digital Immigrants, but also gets them to listen. In sum, Prensky drew predominantly
on pathos with his use of strategic shaming, but also touched on ethos when categorizing himself
within the very group that he shamed, and finally using logos with his overall "us or them"
metaphor. All in all, without his bold rhetorical strategy, the same message would have been said,
but with a less convincing delivery style, and the argument would not have been as effective.
Prensky's additions are what pushed his argument right where it needed to be in order to give it the
best chance of convincing the educators of older generations to accommodate the learning needs of

Introduction
Louis Vuitton is a French fashion house that was established by Louis Vuitton Malletier in 1854 by
manufacturing travelling trunks in Paris (Holborow, 2012). Louis' high–quality travelling trunks
were such a success in the 1850s that he had to expand his business by relocating to Asniéres

As the years went on, Louis gained international recognition by winning a bronze medal at the 1867
World Fair and a gold medal at 1889 World Fairs both held in Paris (Infoplease, 2007).

Stakeholder Theory : Managing A Firm Essay
During the late twentieth century, different ideas became popular about how best to manage a firm.
The first theory which emerged was Stockholder theory, which encouraged managers to act as
agents for the company's legal owners: it's stockholders. This theory held that it was the function of
a firm to act in the best interests of its owners by focusing on maximizing profits. Ensuring that the
stockholders' investments paid off was the fiduciary duty of the managers of this firm. However,
some managers did not feel this style of management was best for their firms. There were other
kinds of value that a firm could want to maximize, not just profits. A new theory emerged, called
Stakeholder Theory, which completely altered how managers did business. Stakeholders were those
who affect or are affected by a firm, and they fall into two categories: market stakeholders, who
exchange money like employees or customers and nonmarket, like the environment. It can be
challenging for managers to decide which stakeholders to prioritize, but a firm which uses
Stakeholder Theory can effectively earn profits as well as generate a positive value to the
community and environment in which it resides.
One firm which has made stakeholders a focus is Salesforce. The chief executive officer of
Salesforce is Marc Benioff, who has been outspoken about how important managing with the best
interest of stakeholders in mind. First, when he launched his firm, he also created the Salesforce
Foundation,

Craig Kielburger Essay
Craig Kielburger is a social activist, who mainly focuses on humanitarian and children's rights.
Craig Kielburger mainly focuses on options for the poor and vulnerable children by creating
organizations and publishing books and columns to advocate against child labor. Craig Kielburger
was born in Thornhill, Ontario, Canada in 1982 and when he was twelve years old, Craig was
inspired to create 'Kids Can Free the Children' which later became 'Free the Children'. Craig was
inspired to become involved as an activist for children's rights when he heard on the news about the
death of Iqbal Masih, a young Pakistani boy who was murdered for his work on the freedom and
rights of child laborers because this tore Kielburger apart and it made it realize that no one was
standing up for the poor child laborers. Therefore, Kielburger demonstrated a response to long–term

A quote that is directly related to the Catholic social teaching of Options for the poor and Vulnerable
is, "Love for others, and especially for the poor, is made concrete by promoting justice" (Pope John

Madagascar, Africa, By Madagascar
For my county I chose Madagascar, Africa. Madagascar is one of the poorest countries in the world.
In 2003 an index was created by the United Nations Development Program that measures successes
in the categories of real income, life expectancy, and education. With that Madagascar was ranked
149 out of 175 counties. A lot of this can be due to kleptocratic rule, religion, economic colonialism,
and lack of infrastructure.
Madagascar is still very much a developing country with the average Malagasy (term for a resident
in Madagascar) making only one US dollar per day. Even though Madagascar achieved full
independence in 1960 it is still ran today as if it were a colony. While under kleptocratic rule, the
dictator Didier Ratsiraka stole millions of dollars. Which in turn led to a decline in foreign investors,
it discouraged private sector development, and discredited the governments trustworthiness. This
country is based on natural resource extraction and economies like this or much more prone to
kleptocracy. When the president Marc Ravalomanana came to in 2002 he pushed for economic
reform and tried to bring foreign investors back to the country while also keeping natural resource
extraction an important role in building the economy. These efforts received much praise from
foreign donors but towards the end of his presidency he was confronted by Adry Rajoelina who
stated he was "likely to disturb peace and security". Ravalomanana was then forced to resign due to

The Learning Potential Of E Books
In today's day and age, it is common knowledge that students possess different learning styles than
those of generations before them. In the essays by Marc Prensky "Digital Natives, Digital
Immigrants" (2001) and "Digital Natives, Digital Immigrants Part II: Do They Really Think
Differently?" (2001) the author clearly argues a need to adapt to students modern learning styles. In
Lotta Larson's "The Learning Potential of e–Books" (2015) Larson also argues the clear benefits of
eLearning for today's students. Finally, is Naomi S. Baron's "How E–Reading Threatens Learning is

While I understand the purpose of quiet and isolated test taking, I find it horribly tedious and
counterproductive, as when I am filled with a room of "background noise" if you will, I am able to
hush my thoughts and focus on the task at hand. This is not just my personal experience of learning,
its scientific too! Prensky uses the topic Neuroplasticity to explain "Based on the latest research in
neurobiology, there is no longer any question that stimulation of various kinds actually changes
brain structures and affects the way people think, and these transformations go on throughout life."
Does that not in fact support the argument that my brain has adapted to learning in a technology rich
environment? In essence students of this era are programmed to utilize the tools they have adapted
to using. But what, you might ask, are these tools? In Lotta Larson's "The Learning Potential of e–

readers listen to the proper pronunciation of advanced level vocabulary words. For those with
advanced reading skills, audiobooks allow students to take a moment and absorb every word

Argumentative Essay On Digital Natives
In today's high demand for the latest and most advanced technology, our world is becoming more
and more digitally native. With the youth growing up in a world being native and surrounded by
technology, they are being impacted having reference to the name "digital natives." It is a
controversial debate regarding the negative and positive impacts of growing up being a "digital
native" and there are many viewpoints on the expectations for both "digital natives" and "digital
immigrants." Are these terms entirely accurate? Danah Boyd's book, Are Today's Youth Digital
Natives? descriptively covers the ins and outs of the term "digital natives" and how this generation
is being affected by technology. In this essay, I will converse between the work of Boyd on her
opinion and research on digital natives and compare it to Marc Prensky, author of Digital Natives,
Digital Immigrants as mentioned in her text, and author Alexandra Samuel of Forget "digital
natives." Here's how kids are really using the internet. The term "digital native" refers to people born
in the digital era, in other words, people born in Generation X or younger, who have been exposed
to technology their whole life and what some may assume "automatically understand technology"
(Boyd 176). These adults who are making assumptions are referred to as ... Show more content on

Analysis Of Advertisements In The Daisy By Marc Jacobs
Advertisements have become a huge part of society in the modernized world of today. Around the
world, many people can see all of the various advertisements not only on TVs and newspapers but
also on billboards, buses, and walls of buildings. Advertising is an influential part of life and we can
easily realize that it has useful purposes for public and private manufacturers and companies
throughout the world. Advertisements can either give consumers a great amount of knowledge about
the products or just convince them to buy and want the products. Advertisements also help sell the
products which keep the economy growing, but people should also be aware of how much they
spend because they may not actually need every product that they see that they want to purchase. In
the Daisy by Marc Jacobs's perfume advertisement, the artist uses many different techniques to
emphasize the advertisement. Some of the different techniques that the artist uses are color,
symbolism, and composition. Marc Jacobs is a fashion icon to many people in the fashion industry.
Jacobs was born on April 9, 1963, in New York City. He is a master when working with fabrics,
colors, and patterns. His intense passion for fashion has taken him straight to the top. Starting his

The Chapel of Vence: Art and Enlightenment
The Chapel of Vence: Art and Enlightenment Best known for his use of color, Henri Matisse
cleverly cultivated his status as a modern artist using many different styles of painting from
Impressionism to Fauvism. The artwork of Matisse has been a milestone in the history of painting.
Henri Matisse's self–proclaimed masterpiece, however, a chapel in Vence, France, is a small,
minimalist building. The amalgamation of modern art and the sacred creates a unique spiritual
experience in that it welcomes Christians and non–Christians alike to appreciate the artist's religious
symbolism. The elegantly simple architecture of the chapel, the use of light in the space, and the
binary of colors on opposite walls have a calming, cleansing, and ... Show more content on

This binary of color palettes represents a juxtaposition between doctrine and spirituality: the black
and white embody the Christian tradition while the harmonizing colors of the windows symbolize
the trinity of sun, nature, sea and sky. Looking through the windows one sees the individual, vivid
colors that are characteristic of Matisse's art. As one steps back, however, the colors become
identifiable figures and coalesce to become real, tangible images. The yellow and blue accentuate
each other as our sensation is the most intense when two extremes are juxtaposed. Matisse uses
color brightness, balance and contrast between colors to improve visual aesthetics. This combination
of the dynamic and the static really makes the space come alive. Matisse's Chapel of the Rosary in
Saint–Paul de Vence epitomizes his modern style with its simple architecture, transcendental
lighting, and color contrast. No less is this a religious experience than the visits to classic cathedrals
that dominate the French landscape from the shores of Mont St. Michel, to the Ile de la Cite's Notre
Dame, to the countless other examples of the French expression of faith through architecture. I must
admit to surprise at this overwhelming reaction on my part to Matisse's talent as an architect and
designer. Winding up the mountains to this remote convent, my mind questioned the

Technology And Technology
With technology in the palm of our hands, why should we sit down and listen to boring reporters
talk about an uninteresting topic that would not impact one's life? As technology advances further
convenience and opportunity for many are provided in the American society, however, more issues
are developing as shown from Trump's decision to end DACA known as the "Dreamers" while
technology is becoming more complex. Generation Z, recognized for their technology involvement,
has the ability to make a large impact on our society. With that being said, generation Z needs to
engage in their local governments as much as they are involved in their cell phones. Local
government makes the overall decision for their municipal district in order to maintain peace, order,
and good governance. If generation Z including millennials want their voice to be heard, getting
involved by voting and taking actions like peaceful protest allows their voice heard by their local
government. In addition, the previous generations should adapt to generation Z's environment by
including technology and social media into their daily lives in order to not make the younger
generations feel like a failure but instead get them interested and engaged in whats occurring in their
world.
Overlooking these past years, technology is not what it used to be. With the iPhone X coming out,
generation Z will be exposed to new inventions like experiencing augmented reality while playing
games. These inventions were not the

Analysis Of The Poem ' Hairspray '
We're running through the inky black darkness for what seems like an eternity, we are running out of
energy– I'm panting. We slow, eventually stopping, our eyes darting around looking for an exit,
nothing. Then we hear the thudding footsteps growing louder so that it sounds echo all around– we
are trying to find its origin but we can't. My friend panics and breaks out in a run yelling for us to
follow. One by one we follow running deeper in to the seemingly endless darkness.
We run until the footsteps of the unknown thing fades to a soft patter and I realise how out of breath
I am. looking at the others I see familiar features in the one who demanded we continue running. his
face sagged but had a cheerful look. I look at the others they too have something familiar about
them, one has a unique hair style– as if practised methodically and coated in hairspray. Another

had a look of sadness, hope and longing in his eyes when he looked at me but his features and hair
resembled that of the older man. The darkness enclosed them and then the silence was broken with
an explosive moan, then the almost inaudible footsteps came pounding louder and louder, closer and
closer. we bounded into action running in– as best as we could tell– the opposite direction. Then a
high pitched screech came from the woman with the stiffened hair. I turned and stopped to see the

Kolya's Characteristic In City Of Thieves By David Benioff
City Of Thieves Author David Benioff of the suspenseful novel, City of Thieves, does a remarkable
job at developing the witty, humorous, brave, and optimistic character known as Kolya. Kolya
begins this novel as an unlikable and unpleasant character but gradually redeems himself by
displaying more admirable traits. Throughout this intriguing novel, despite his arrogance and
frequent reckless behavior, Kolya has proven to be a very likeable and sympathetic character.
Kolya, an alleged deserter of the red army during World War II was first portrayed and thought of by
others as bold and overconfident. "With his manacles hands, he managed to push up the left sleeve

Throughout the story, it is made evident that Kolya truly does sympathize with Lev. Kolya never
wants Lev to feel badly about himself. He never fails to give Lev encouragement in hope of lifting
his spirits. "You didn't want to go up to that apartment. I was the country fool who insisted on it. So
you don't owe me an apology. And i don't think you're a coward. Anyone with a spoonful of sanity
would have run. (Benioff 65). This is a perfect example of Kolya giving Lev encouragement and
sympathizing with the fact that Lev felt bad for leaving Kolya in the apartment to fight the Giant
alone. I find it thoughtful that Kolya didn't want Lev to feel down or bad about himself so he
proceeded to tell Lev that anyone with common sense would have ran and even though he fled, it
doesn't reflect on his strength and bravery. While this is just one example of Kolyas compassion, his
sympathy is shown in more ways than just one. "He opened his eyes, his pale blue cossack eyes, and
smiles at me. We both knew he was going to die. He trembled lying on the back seat beneath his
great coat, his teeth very white against his blue lips. I have always believed that smile was a gift for
me. Kolya had no faith in the divine or the afterlife; he didn't think he was going to a better place, or
any place at all. No angels waited to collect him.

The Road And City Of Thieves
Everyday people are put into tough situations, and how they get past these situations is up to them.
The choice is to overcome these challenges or give up and let the challenge triumph. Cormac
Mccarthy's novel The Road, takes place in a post apocalyptic world in the present day. With ash
covering the land, cannibal groups roaming and freezing temperatures, a father and son manage to
stay strong and survive. The father's main goal is to keep his innocent scared son alive, and teach
him life lessons while doing so. David Benioff's novel City of Thieves, occurs during World War II
while the Nazis are invading Russia. The two men who begin as strangers, have to perform a near
impossible task to be able to keep their lives. They must hide from Nazis, survive the harsh winter
and have the faith to complete their task. Both The Road and City of Thieves demonstrate that
people can overcome difficult situations by having faith, and keeping strong relationships. For
starters, The Road displays that people can overcome tough situations by having faith and never
giving up. A father and son in the novel are forced to survive and adapt to a new way of living that
includes, searching for food and shelter to survive, and always being on the lookout for evil people.
Never giving up, and having faith in these tough situations is how the pair survive and live the best
life possible. The man in the novel always believed in never giving up, and to keep moving forward.

Mount Hood Case Study

Now that the background of the disaster is known, we can begin to analyze its many components.
From the leadership skills or lack thereof, to the heuristic traps the hikers fell into, to the many
voices that bring multiple views of this climb to life, the 1986 Oregon Episcopal School climb is one
that has people wondering how so many lost their lives in a seemingly simple trip. In doing this we
are able to see how this disaster could have been prevented allowing us to learn from the mistakes of
this tragic event.
The leadership, group functioning, experience, and skill of the nineteen individuals who made their
way up Mount Hood can be used to analyze the very basics of what went wrong atop the mountain.
Though there was a trained ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Those who survived the tragedy bring the voice of what it was really like up on the mountain to life.
The parents of students who didn't survive bring the feeling of grief and the opinion that the school
was never prepared enough to take kids up the mountain (Hallman, 2014). Though some hold the
school responsible, others believe that the leaders provided were adequate as was the equipment.
The media also provides an interesting view into the climb. Because they bring the voices of the
parents, community, and survivors together, the recordings from May 12th through 15th prove to be
valuable when dissecting the events that occurred. Newspapers, magazines, and television reports all
freeze this disaster in place among the records of Mount Hood. Finally, the voices of the public
provide interesting insight on the climbers and leaders who failed to come back home. Through
contrasting views of Summers, Goman, and Horwell, the trip leaders, we learn that not everyone
believed them to be fit to guide the trip. By comparing these multiple viewpoints, it becomes clear
that if the group had taken the correct precautions and listened to the weather report, they may be

Before his profession work, Andre Benjamin started his rapping career in his teens and in high
school formed a duo later named Outkast after he got a record deal. By the end of the 90s Outkast
became very well known by their single, "Hey yeah" which made it up to number one on the rap
charts and stayed number one for six weeks straight. The songs quality greatly improved the group's
reputation so much Rolling Stones called one of the top 500 tracks of all time. The band Outkast's
rap scene was so big they went on to collect six Grammy Awards and soon after Andre began his
career in acting by showing up in several Television shows. His high school rival Big Boy was
instrumental in his success and encouraging his lean in the music arts both for movies and record
labels and the two have now become lifelong friends. Outkast was born as they two rapidly
havocked a rebellious streak as teenagers, hanging around mall spaces writing, singing and dancing
for the pubic and just as quickly they were offered contracts at a young age and became associated
with big record labels that started their road to fame. In 98' their success came to

Winged Me Narrative
The scent of salt water tickles my nose as I enter the small town of Kiros. I smile, it's good to revisit
the town I grew up in. I've been living in the ... unique servants corridors of the Swinfield Manor.
However, weeks ago I left and I hope never to return. My town has a humble population but today
the place is mobbed with people. They've all come for the festival, but I have come for different
reason. To meet the woman with the wings, to kill the woman who ended my father. I've been
planning her death for weeks and I know I'll enjoy the satisfaction of killing the one who cursed me
and ripped my life into thousands of tiny shreds. The crisp, sweet scented air pushes my auburn hair
into my eyes as I make my way to the crumbling alleys and ... Show more content on

So, as she flys forward to attack once more, I throw my hands up creating spikes of darkness. The
darkness pushes through the light solidifying around me. The Winged One has no time to stop or
slow so she flies forward to the spikes protecting. One of them stabs straight through her left wing.
The woman lets out a bloodcurdling cry then is as limp as a rag doll.
After the staff of darkness skewers her wing I release it and the darkness dissipates. The one that has
wings falls to the ground with a sickening thunk and doesn't rise.
Adrenaline courses through me as I cautiously move towards her. Her body lies limp and lifeless. A
pool of grey–red blood darkness the ground around her. I nudge her gently with my foot. "Are you
dead?" I whisper. No answer. I flip her over with my boot and find that her chest isn't rising and
falling. She isn't breathing. She is dead.
A mixture of emotions roar inside me. Joy that the witch is finally dead. The one who killed my
father is finally gone. Then ... sadness. I killed a person I don't even know the name of. I killed
someone. This is the first person I've ever killed. I just hope I won't have to

SALESF0RCE.COM:
SOFTWARE–AS–A–SERVICE GOES MAINSTREAM
Salesforce.com has been considered one of the most disruptive technology companies of the past
few years and is credited with single–handedly shaking up the software industry with its innovative
business model and resounding success. This company provides CRM solutions in the form of
'software–as–a–service' leased over the Internet, as opposed to software bought and installed on
machines locally. It was founded in 1999 by former Oracle executive Marc Benioff, and has since
grown to 2,600 employees and earned $748 million in revenue in 2007.
Salesforce.com has over 43,000 corporate customers and well over 1 million subscribers.
Salesforce.com attributes its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, it's still too soon to tell whether this prediction will turn out to be true. Salesforce faces
significant challenges as it continues to grow and refine its business.
The first challenge comes from increased competition, both from traditional industry leaders and
new challengers hoping to replicate Salesforce's success. Microsoft, SAP, and Oracle have rolled out
subscription–based versions of their CRM products in response to Salesforce. Smaller competitors
like NetSuite also have made some inroads against Salesforce's market share.
Analysts predict that Microsoft has a chance to compete with Salesforce by developing merely an
acceptable on–demand CRM product, because of the average customer's already–established
familiarity with Microsoft applications. Also, Microsoft plans to offer their product at half the price
of Salesforce.com, using a tactic they have employed with great effect in other marketplaces to
pressure their competitors. Salesforce.com still has plenty of catching up to do to reach the size and
market share of their larger competitors. As of 2007, SAP's CRM market share was 25.7 percent,
compared to only 7 percent for Salesforce.com. IBM's customer base includes 9,000 software
companies that run their applications on their software and that are likelier to choose a solution
offered by IBM over Salesforce.com.
Another challenge for Salesforce.com is to expand its business model into other

Digital Immigrants In The 21St Century

  • 1. Digital Immigrants In The 21st Century Born in the digital age and surrounded by digital products, students today are referred as "digital natives" who have gained specific technical skills and are fundamentally different from the older generations in the way of thinking and processing information, thus they require a new educational approach (Prensky, 2001). To engage with the younger generations, Prensky (2001) suggests that educators, who are considered as digital immigrants, should change their teaching methodology and content. As the development of information technology in the 21st century has significantly increased the speed and greatly ameliorates the way students communicate and gather information, digital technologies such as computers and digital games are now suggested ... • 5. The Effects Of Media On Young Audiences Violence in the media has become a hot topic of discussion due to its potential effects on young audiences. While content on broadcast networks such as ABC and NBC is regulated by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), premium channels like the Home Box Office (HBO) do not fall under their jurisdiction and therefore do not need to obey such regulations (Title 47). A prime example of graphic violence on television that falls outside of the FCC's purview is found in the HBO hit series Game of Thrones. The ninth episode of the third season of Game of Thrones, "The Rains of Castamere", is well–known as one of the most violent episodes in the show. This is mostly attributed to a specific scene in this episode, known by the book readers as the Red Wedding. The scene is one of the most violent scenes in all of Game of Thrones history. The Red Wedding scene was quite controversial after it aired in 2013, with some arguing that it was too violent, even for an HBO television show. Others stated that they thought the violence was necessary considering the historical references mentioned, and the way the book was written. I believe that the purpose of the violence and gore found in Game of Thrones, and more specifically "The Rains of Castamere", is to replicate the way modern audiences think of the Dark Ages. It also stands to entice the original readers of the novels who would expect the violence of the show to live up to that in the books. The violence in "The Rains of ... • 9. Fashion And The World Of Fashion The world of fashion is always changing and new trends are always emerging. The ways by which trends and fashion news are communicated to the public has evolved as technology advances. Before television and the internet, it was difficult for designers, photographers, and fashion brands alike to spread word about the latest in fashion to a large mass of people. With the help of modern technology, fashion has made its mark in the world by appearing on television networks, online blogs, social media, and digital magazines. In the past, fashion was viewed as something to which only privileged people could have access. It was hard to keep up with trends because it was not mass communicated in the same way that it is today. Fashion shows were the best way to see the newest styles and collections from high–end designers. However, it is difficult do attend these shows because the tickets go to celebrities, socialites, and other prominent people in the fashion world. Harvard professor, Jeannie Suk, notes that the "growing ease of travel and communication" has made the dissemination of fashion much easier (Harvard Magazine). Another way fashion was accessible was through magazines. The most common way people stayed caught up with fashion was through magazines because they were affordable and up to date. Suk also employs that the mass production of newspapers and other forms of publication has helped "fashion trends spread rapidly" (Harvard Magazine). Nowadays, technology is ... Strategic planning is important for all businesses because this is when they set there aims and will discuss how they can achieve that aim. These aims have to be realistic and the owners will discuss this with their workers. Some aims might be hard to get but executives will want their workers to push hard so that it can be achieved. Marks and Spencer's aim was to be the best supermarket in Britain but the recession had affected them really bad giving them losses of over 100 million pounds. Currently they are making profits of 50 million pounds but it is nowhere near what they made a few years ago. Strategic planning will show what direction the business is going to achieve its aims. John Lewis has also done well and they have been doing well since the start of 2011. John Lewis and Next have been doing really well because they have made changes in prices and the offers that are being made are worth the money. Gradually as more people start buying the product they will increase the price. John Lewis who's partners with Waitrose has benefitted them and Waitrose. John Lewis needed a good start to the year as at the end of 2010 they suffered heavy losses with the snow showers. They made losses over 30 million at Christmas time which is where spending is high and is the time where John Lewis makes a lot of sales. John Lewis has been expanding over London and they are going to open a new store in Westfield's in Newham. • 17. Digital Divide And Stereotypes Introduction Firstly recorded in the report of the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) survey in 1995, (Servon, 2002), the term Digital Divide presents an interesting quandary of information and communication technologies (ICT) disparities among countries in the world, especially between developed and developing countries. Many reports even showed that access to ICT in these information "have" and "have–nots" countries was unequally even (Bridges.org, 2001; Fuchs & Horak, 2008; Norris, 2001 ; Van Dijk, 2009). Nonetheless, though inequities in access to ICT are most evident across countries, the same pattern is found within the countries themselves. In the U.S, for example, the gap in ICT access does exist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In my poster, I used an image of old lady from Swongled Media (2008) to represent the concept of digital immigrants. Prensky (2001a, p. 8 ), in his first article "Digital Natives, Digital Immigrants", describes this term as those older generations "who were not born into the digital world". After years of living in "pre–digital lifestyles" (Selwyn, 2009, p. 369 ), the digital immigrants have been transformed into a group of "asylum seekers" in digital media world (Byne & Ross, 2007, p. 4 ). It means that these older people are forced to adapt if they really want to be connected. Likewise, even though some of digital immigrants can use technology, most of them still consider it as "something foreign" (Kennedy et al., 2008). Consequently, the digital immigrants may find online experience "anarchic, superficial and/or threatening" (Dufresne & Bethke, 2005), due to their entrenched value in traditional discourse of information gathering. O'Hara and Steven (2006, p. 88) even claims that the digital immigrants require more attention due to their ICT skills which are "second hand, slightly forced and has to be learned". In other words, digital immigrants are seen as groups of people who are older and less familiar as well as uncomfortable with technology. Following to that, the divergent notion of digital immigrants is digital natives. I portrayed this concept by using an image from Rachel ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Do you think that technology has already introduced to the world? There are many people using the technology, but some people don't use it because of their age. Wassily Kandinsky Research Paper Research Paper: Wassily Kandinsky Shelby Steinbach Des Moines Area Community College April 2017 Wassily Kandinsky has been part of my fascination and love for art for approximately ten years now. Beginning when I was a freshman in high school, and every year as part of our art classes, my instructor would do small units on art theory and highlight artists throughout those units, Kandinsky included. While my talents, in particular, are somewhat limited to what I can represent, Kandinsky was the first to break Western art's most "important rule:" that art need to depict anything (Frank, 396). As the first to break away from art being representational, Kandinsky opened other avenues of expression, as well (Wassily–Kandinsky.org). Surrealism, the movement I am most fascinated by, is something I believe is a natural extension from art representing nothing, to art representing multiple things. • 29. Metadata Quality : Importance, Standards, Assessment, And... Metadata Quality: Importance, Standards, Assessment, and Challenges Metadata is a vital aspect of information organization today. Without quality metadata, the worth of collections is diminished and the ability for records to be used is non–existent (Park & Tosaka, 2010). Thus, metadata is the cornerstone of library systems, and it is imperative for academic research. Further, if standards for metadata are not established, there is no agreed upon quality, making interoperability of records impossible (Park, 2009). Despite the obvious importance of quality metadata, little work has been done to develop a standard or best practice guideline. The National Information Standards Organization (NISO) has established six principles that make up ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus, metadata quality cannot be assessed by a full MARC record. Instead, catalogers must use other assessment methods. For instance, Bruce and Hillman assess quality metadata through a seven layer framework: completeness, accuracy, provenance, conformance to expectations, logical consistency and coherence, timeliness, and accessibility (David & Thomas, 2015). A different proposal from Stvilia and Gasser (2008) propose a system of assessment that analyzes metadata records both empirically and analytically. This allows records to have sound metadata quality, but does not require a quality above what is functional for a record. Zschocke and Beniest (2011) advocate a quality assurance method that utilizes peer–review and automation to check metadata while it is being created. One of the leading tools used to evaluate metadata currently is its usefulness to end–users. If end–users are supplied with numerous application of records, then the quality of the metadata is higher than a record whose applications for an end–user are minute (Park & Tosaka, 2010). The study of Park and Tosaka (2010) reveals that the most commonly used assessment of metadata is the application of accuracy and consistency. If a record is accurate and consistent, it is valued over a complete record because accuracy and consistency can be checked and assessed on all record types, unlike other forms of assessment. The article asserts that due to the the anacrusis of the digital age, this generation has changed dramatically, thus, it is no longer possible to reach them through obsolete teaching methods, as it comes close to teaching them in a foreign language. In order to solve this issue, Presky suggests that we need to update our methodology in order to fit today's needs better. In the beginning of the article, Prensky implies that student have changed dramatically, thus, are no longer the correct audience for our education system. He goes on by explaining that this change is not exactly a diversification, as in clothes, slang or the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Digital Natives, Digital Immigrants. Page. 2 – 2001), as he emphasises it. To furthermore clarify this term, he names many examples such as "bringing people physically into your office to see an interesting web site" (Prensky, Mark. Digital Natives, Digital Immigrants. Page. 2 – 2001) instead of "sending them an email" (Prensky, Mark. Digital Natives, Digital Immigrants. Page. 2 – 2001). Prensky complicates this matter when he embeds it into school routine. He endorses that to digital natives it feels like they are being taught by foreigners who have no wrap their head around English language yet. However, this is a dilemma that only starts, rather than ends, at the lack of communication. By introducing another example, he disputes that there is also a quarrel in the way of thinking in general. Digital natives, for example, believe that studying should be fun and could easily be done, while, for example, watching TV. This Digital Immigrants, however, deny up to this day; simply because they were not capable of doing all those things, while they were young. He then reminds us that, in spite of prevailing belief, one cannot simply presume that students function the same way their teachers did when they were in school. As a result of this, he enters the debate whether "students should go back to their old ways or if teachers should have to learn this new language" (Prensky, Mark. Digital Natives, Digital ... His Hasidic Jewish upbringing reflected in the content of his paintings greatly. Chagall in order to continue painting used a patterned tablecloth instead of a canvas. He did not disguise this surface but retained elements of it in his composition. You can see the pattern over the fiddler's shoulder and on his leg. He has the fiddler floating in mid–air with the town below him above and beside him. The different buildings in the town are arranged in geometric shapes and lines. The most important thing as in all Chagall compositions is the symbolism. The fiddler symbolizes severa!l things at once, a memory from Chagall's childhood, from his homeland and on a personal level himself. His childhood memory was that of his uncle Neuch who didn't play the violin very well but who was enthusiastic when he played it. Its wider Russian significance is that of the failed revolution of 1905. The leader of this revolution was a Jewish fiddler named Edouard Sormus, who led workers through the streets to fight for their rights. Chagall saw himself in the fiddler, a solitary individual, isolated by the strangeness and mystery of art. The whole build–up of the painting reinforces the poetical dimension of the picture. This painting was important to Chagall. He used the symbol of the fiddler in other composition, for example The Violinist (1911), and The Green Violinist (1923–24). This is because of the circle in the middle of the artwork joining the man, the goat and the background. This artwork is a surreal representation of the town of Vitebsk where Chagall grew up. Chagall is trying to comment of the relationship of people with the land, which is demonstrated by the man looking at the goat as an equal and also by the woman milking a goat. As there are in many of Chagall's works, there is a spiritual reference in this artwork. The goat and the Star of David are the symbolic references. The goat is a great symbol of sacrifice for the Jewish religion. The colours in the artwork are reminiscent of the circus or other flamboyant events. The man could represent the ringmaster. This could all show the way in which man lives in harmony with animals and the environment. The large circle in the middle of the page could symbolise the sun and the all the chaos surrounding it could show that the earth and everything on it is dependent on the sun for life. The bright colours could also symbolise the fake world, opposed to that of the world when Chagall grew up. In "The Green Violinist" (1923–24) we see a green man wearing a purple coat, which is composed of geometrical shapes. Digital Natives, Digital Immigrants By Marc Prensky Americans are known to reflect on East Asian education systems, then compare those systems to the education system here in the United States. When doing so, people tend to come to the same general conclusion: there are intensifying problems within the American education system. Marc Prensky, the author of "Digital Natives, Digital Immigrants," argues that the real issue with educating today's youth is that our education system's design does not accommodate today's students since they are not the same as the students who molded our education system years and years ago. Finally, Prensky's strong metaphor added depth to his argument, while getting the reader to think "should we accommodate them, or should they accommodate us?" Using such a prominent metaphor raises the eyebrows of Digital Immigrants, but also gets them to listen. In sum, Prensky drew predominantly on pathos with his use of strategic shaming, but also touched on ethos when categorizing himself within the very group that he shamed, and finally using logos with his overall "us or them" metaphor. All in all, without his bold rhetorical strategy, the same message would have been said, but with a less convincing delivery style, and the argument would not have been as effective. • 77. Stakeholder Theory : Managing A Firm Essay During the late twentieth century, different ideas became popular about how best to manage a firm. The first theory which emerged was Stockholder theory, which encouraged managers to act as agents for the company's legal owners: it's stockholders. This theory held that it was the function of a firm to act in the best interests of its owners by focusing on maximizing profits. Ensuring that the stockholders' investments paid off was the fiduciary duty of the managers of this firm. However, some managers did not feel this style of management was best for their firms. There were other kinds of value that a firm could want to maximize, not just profits. A new theory emerged, called Stakeholder Theory, which completely altered how managers did business. Stakeholders were those who affect or are affected by a firm, and they fall into two categories: market stakeholders, who exchange money like employees or customers and nonmarket, like the environment. It can be challenging for managers to decide which stakeholders to prioritize, but a firm which uses Stakeholder Theory can effectively earn profits as well as generate a positive value to the community and environment in which it resides. • 85. Madagascar, Africa, By Madagascar For my county I chose Madagascar, Africa. Madagascar is one of the poorest countries in the world. In 2003 an index was created by the United Nations Development Program that measures successes in the categories of real income, life expectancy, and education. With that Madagascar was ranked 149 out of 175 counties. A lot of this can be due to kleptocratic rule, religion, economic colonialism, and lack of infrastructure. Madagascar is still very much a developing country with the average Malagasy (term for a resident in Madagascar) making only one US dollar per day. Even though Madagascar achieved full independence in 1960 it is still ran today as if it were a colony. While under kleptocratic rule, the dictator Didier Ratsiraka stole millions of dollars. Which in turn led to a decline in foreign investors, it discouraged private sector development, and discredited the governments trustworthiness. This country is based on natural resource extraction and economies like this or much more prone to kleptocracy. When the president Marc Ravalomanana came to in 2002 he pushed for economic reform and tried to bring foreign investors back to the country while also keeping natural resource extraction an important role in building the economy. These efforts received much praise from foreign donors but towards the end of his presidency he was confronted by Adry Rajoelina who stated he was "likely to disturb peace and security". In the essays by Marc Prensky "Digital Natives, Digital Immigrants" (2001) and "Digital Natives, Digital Immigrants Part II: Do They Really Think Differently?" (2001) the author clearly argues a need to adapt to students modern learning styles. In Lotta Larson's "The Learning Potential of e–Books" (2015) Larson also argues the clear benefits of eLearning for today's students. Finally, is Naomi S. While I understand the purpose of quiet and isolated test taking, I find it horribly tedious and counterproductive, as when I am filled with a room of "background noise" if you will, I am able to hush my thoughts and focus on the task at hand. This is not just my personal experience of learning, its scientific too! Prensky uses the topic Neuroplasticity to explain "Based on the latest research in neurobiology, there is no longer any question that stimulation of various kinds actually changes brain structures and affects the way people think, and these transformations go on throughout life." Does that not in fact support the argument that my brain has adapted to learning in a technology rich environment? In essence students of this era are programmed to utilize the tools they have adapted to using. But what, you might ask, are these tools? In Lotta Larson's "The Learning Potential of e– Books" the author brings up the topic of audiobooks. Audiobooks have the benefit of helping readers listen to the proper pronunciation of advanced level vocabulary words. For those with advanced reading skills, audiobooks allow students to take a moment and absorb every word written. With the youth growing up in a world being native and surrounded by technology, they are being impacted having reference to the name "digital natives." It is a controversial debate regarding the negative and positive impacts of growing up being a "digital native" and there are many viewpoints on the expectations for both "digital natives" and "digital immigrants." Are these terms entirely accurate? Danah Boyd's book, Are Today's Youth Digital Natives? descriptively covers the ins and outs of the term "digital natives" and how this generation is being affected by technology. In this essay, I will converse between the work of Boyd on her opinion and research on digital natives and compare it to Marc Prensky, author of Digital Natives, Digital Immigrants as mentioned in her text, and author Alexandra Samuel of Forget "digital natives." Here's how kids are really using the internet. The term "digital native" refers to people born in the digital era, in other words, people born in Generation X or younger, who have been exposed to technology their whole life and what some may assume "automatically understand technology" (Boyd 176). The Chapel of Vence: Art and Enlightenment The Chapel of Vence: Art and Enlightenment Best known for his use of color, Henri Matisse cleverly cultivated his status as a modern artist using many different styles of painting from Impressionism to Fauvism. The artwork of Matisse has been a milestone in the history of painting. Henri Matisse's self–proclaimed masterpiece, however, a chapel in Vence, France, is a small, minimalist building. The amalgamation of modern art and the sacred creates a unique spiritual experience in that it welcomes Christians and non–Christians alike to appreciate the artist's religious symbolism. The elegantly simple architecture of the chapel, the use of light in the space, and the binary of colors on opposite walls have a calming, cleansing, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This binary of color palettes represents a juxtaposition between doctrine and spirituality: the black and white embody the Christian tradition while the harmonizing colors of the windows symbolize the trinity of sun, nature, sea and sky. Looking through the windows one sees the individual, vivid colors that are characteristic of Matisse's art. As one steps back, however, the colors become identifiable figures and coalesce to become real, tangible images. The yellow and blue accentuate each other as our sensation is the most intense when two extremes are juxtaposed. Matisse uses color brightness, balance and contrast between colors to improve visual aesthetics. This combination of the dynamic and the static really makes the space come alive. Matisse's Chapel of the Rosary in Saint–Paul de Vence epitomizes his modern style with its simple architecture, transcendental lighting, and color contrast. No less is this a religious experience than the visits to classic cathedrals that dominate the French landscape from the shores of Mont St. Michel, to the Ile de la Cite's Notre Dame, to the countless other examples of the French expression of faith through architecture. As technology advances further convenience and opportunity for many are provided in the American society, however, more issues are developing as shown from Trump's decision to end DACA known as the "Dreamers" while technology is becoming more complex. Generation Z, recognized for their technology involvement, has the ability to make a large impact on our society. With that being said, generation Z needs to engage in their local governments as much as they are involved in their cell phones. Local government makes the overall decision for their municipal district in order to maintain peace, order, and good governance. If generation Z including millennials want their voice to be heard, getting involved by voting and taking actions like peaceful protest allows their voice heard by their local government. In addition, the previous generations should adapt to generation Z's environment by including technology and social media into their daily lives in order to not make the younger generations feel like a failure but instead get them interested and engaged in whats occurring in their world. Overlooking these past years, technology is not what it used to be. We run until the footsteps of the unknown thing fades to a soft patter and I realise how out of breath I am. looking at the others I see familiar features in the one who demanded we continue running. his face sagged but had a cheerful look. I look at the others they too have something familiar about them, one has a unique hair style– as if practised methodically and coated in hairspray. Another dressed in murky blue overalls– which I could've sworn belonged to me, and the last was young and had a look of sadness, hope and longing in his eyes when he looked at me but his features and hair resembled that of the older man. The darkness enclosed them and then the silence was broken with an explosive moan, then the almost inaudible footsteps came pounding louder and louder, closer and closer. we bounded into action running in– as best as we could tell– the opposite direction. Kolya's Characteristic In City Of Thieves By David Benioff City Of Thieves Author David Benioff of the suspenseful novel, City of Thieves, does a remarkable job at developing the witty, humorous, brave, and optimistic character known as Kolya. Kolya begins this novel as an unlikable and unpleasant character but gradually redeems himself by displaying more admirable traits. Throughout this intriguing novel, despite his arrogance and frequent reckless behavior, Kolya has proven to be a very likeable and sympathetic character. Kolya, an alleged deserter of the red army during World War II was first portrayed and thought of by others as bold and overconfident. And i don't think you're a coward. Anyone with a spoonful of sanity would have run. (Benioff 65). This is a perfect example of Kolya giving Lev encouragement and sympathizing with the fact that Lev felt bad for leaving Kolya in the apartment to fight the Giant alone. I find it thoughtful that Kolya didn't want Lev to feel down or bad about himself so he proceeded to tell Lev that anyone with common sense would have ran and even though he fled, it doesn't reflect on his strength and bravery. While this is just one example of Kolyas compassion, his sympathy is shown in more ways than just one. "He opened his eyes, his pale blue cossack eyes, and smiles at me. We both knew he was going to die. He trembled lying on the back seat beneath his great coat, his teeth very white against his blue lips. I have always believed that smile was a gift for me. Kolya had no faith in the divine or the afterlife; he didn't think he was going to a better place, or any place at all. No angels waited to collect him. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The choice is to overcome these challenges or give up and let the challenge triumph. Cormac Mccarthy's novel The Road, takes place in a post apocalyptic world in the present day. With ash covering the land, cannibal groups roaming and freezing temperatures, a father and son manage to stay strong and survive. The father's main goal is to keep his innocent scared son alive, and teach him life lessons while doing so. The two men who begin as strangers, have to perform a near impossible task to be able to keep their lives. They must hide from Nazis, survive the harsh winter and have the faith to complete their task. Both The Road and City of Thieves demonstrate that people can overcome difficult situations by having faith, and keeping strong relationships. For starters, The Road displays that people can overcome tough situations by having faith and never giving up. A father and son in the novel are forced to survive and adapt to a new way of living that includes, searching for food and shelter to survive, and always being on the lookout for evil people.
