A taxi passenger tapped the driver on the shoulder as he wanted to ask him something. The driver gave out
a loud scream, lost control of the car, nearly hit a van, drove up a curb and stopped just a few inches from a
shop window. For a moment, everything went quiet in the cab and then the driver told the passenger, “Sir,
don’t ever do that again. Did you know that you scared me out of my wits?”
The passenger apologized and said, “I didn’t realize that a little tap would scare the daylights out of you.”
The driver said, “Sorry, it’s not really your fault. You know, today is my first day as a cab driver. For the
last twenty years I’ve been driving a funeral van.”
Reflection
Great fear can arise when one associates a present happening with one’s past circumstances or
experiences. Train the mind to be in the present – let it not go to the past or run to the future.
The Cab Driver 计程车司机
一名出租车乘客拍了拍司机的肩膀，想问他一些事情。
司机大声尖叫，汽车失去控制，差点撞到一辆货车，然
后驶上路边，停在距离商店橱窗仅几英寸的地方。 一时

The Ugly Baby 丑陋的婴儿
A mother who was carrying a baby, boarded a bus. The bus driver remarked,
“That is the ugliest baby I’ve ever seen!”
The mother fumed at the driver’s words but went to the back of the bus and sat down.
“The stupid driver just insulted me,” she told the passenger sitting beside her.
“Why don’t you go right up there and tell him off?” her seatmate said,
“and while you do that, I’ll hold your monkey for you.”
Reflection
How often have we added salt to wounds due to ignorance, carelessness or a sheer
lack of mindful wisdom? Be careful and observant before speaking.
一位抱着婴儿的母亲登上了一辆公共汽车。 公交车
司机说：“这是我见过最丑的婴儿！” 母亲对司机的
话很生气，但还是走到车尾坐下了。 “那个愚蠢的

the porch of his house.
Woman : I couldn’t help but
notice how carefree you look.
What is your secret for a long
and happy life?
Man : Happy? I smoke
three packs a day, drink a case
of beer, eat fatty foods and
never exercise.
Woman : Wow, that’s
amazing! How old are you?
Man : Twenty - eight.
Reflection
One’s health is often in one’s
hands. One’s lifestyle
certainly affects one’s health.
“Don’t smoke. Don’t drink.
Don’t take drugs.”
长寿，快乐的生活？
一个女人走到一个看起来很老

Thirteen! Thirteen!
Freddie was walking by a mental asylum for the insane. He heard the
inmates chanting “Thirteen! Thirteen!” He was very curious to find
out what was going on in the asylum. He peeped through a hole on the
fence. Immediately, someone on the other side poked him in the eye.
All the asylum inmates then started chanting, “Fourteen! Fourteen!”
Reflection
Curiosity kills the cat. One has to be very careful or cautious in situations
which are out of the ordinary. Any heedless or foolish action can cause harm
to oneself. Be mindful and wise.
十三！ 十三！
弗雷迪正路过一家精神病院。 他听到囚犯
们高呼“十三！ 十三！” 他很好奇，想知道

Fighting Over A Bus Seat
Two ladies were fighting on board a bus. The fight was over a vacant
seat. Both wanted the seat. The bus conductor intervened and declared,
“Ok…this is what we’d do. The vacant seat goes to the older of the two
ladies. Both the ladies looked at each other and none wanted to go and
sit. The seat remained vacant.
Reflection
Is it true that many ladies are quite reluctant to reveal their ages? If so
is it due to vanity and a desire to remain young always? Beware! The
ego in us is a root cause for Dukkha.
争夺公交车座位
两名女士在公共汽车上打架。 这场争斗是为了争夺
一个空位。 两人都想要他的座位。 公交车售票员介

Humorous Doctor
A frantic mother once phoned the family doctor, “Doctor, please come
ASAP! Our 3-year old daughter has just swallowed an eraser! The very
busy doc said, “Now, calm down. I’ll be right over at your home in about
15 minutes time.”
“Thank you, Doctor,” the mother said, “but in the meantime
what should I do?”
“You can just use liquid paper,” the doctor replied.
Reflection
The use of humor can help relieve the monotony and stress of our work.
However we have to be careful and wise that it will not be construed as
sarcasm or an insult.
幽默医生
有一次，一位心急如焚的妈妈打电话给家庭医生：“医
生，请尽快来！ 我们 3 岁的女儿刚刚吞下了一块橡皮！
这位非常忙碌的医生说：“现在，冷静点。 大约15分钟

Muthu and The Trishaw Man
Muthu and his wife once went on a tour to Melaka. They boarded a motorized
trishaw to have a conducted tour of the city. As they started the ride, Muthu
noticed that the trishaw man was taking some time adjusting the mirror. The
trishaw man actually wanted to have a clear view of the rear for safety reasons.
Muthu feeling suspicious and jealous shouted, “Hey, stop! You are trying to see
my wife, you lustful man! Come and sit at the back. I will drive!”
Reflection
Ignorant and foolish people can get jealous or angry over something that does
not have any bad or immoral intention. Calm and mindful investigation is wise.
穆图和三轮车人
Muthu 和他的妻子有一次去马六甲旅游。 他们登上机动
三轮车，在导游的带领下游览这座城市。 当他们开始骑

Insulting Each Other
Two teenagers, Betsy and Willie were talking with each other at the class party.
Betsy : You know Willie, you could be a good singer except for one thing?
Willie : What is that thing?
Betsy : Your voice!
Willie : You know Betsy, you would be a great dancer except for two things.
Betsy : What are those two things?
Willie : Your feet!
Reflection
We have to be careful not to insult or ridicule other people. Using sarcastic
words can bring about anger, ill-will or even quarrel.
互相侮辱
贝特西和威利这两个青少年在班级聚会上互相交
谈。贝特西：你知道威利，你可以成为一名优秀的
歌手，除了一件事之外？威利：那是什么东西？贝
琪：你的声音！威利：你知道贝特西，除了两件事

我们必须小心不要侮辱或嘲笑其他人。 使用讽刺的
话会引起愤怒、恶意甚至争吵。

The Pay Roll Clerk
A pay roll clerk was alone in the office when two masked robbers entered.
“This is a stick-up,” one of robbers said, pointing a gun at the clerk. “You make a
move and you are dead! Just hand over all the money and you won’t get hurt.”
Fearing for her life, the clerk obeyed, and the robbers scooped up all the money
and put the notes in their pockets.
As the robbers made for the door, the clerk shouted, “Just a minute! Please take
the payroll books too! The auditors are coming tomorrow!”
Reflections
Incompetent workers sometimes resort to unethical ways to cover up the
mistakes they commit. Beware! A dishonest person will soon face Dukkha.
工资表职员
当两名蒙面劫匪闯入时，一名工资职员独自一人在办
公室里。“这是一场抢劫，”一名劫匪用枪指着店员说
道。 “你动手，你就死定了！ 只要把钱都交出来，你
就不会受到伤害。”由于担心她的生命安全，店员服从
了，强盗们把所有的钱都捞了起来，放进了口袋里。
当劫匪向门口走去时，店员喊道：“等一下！ 请把工
资单也拿走！ 审计师明天来
反思 无能的工人有时会采取不道德的方式来掩盖他们所犯的错误。
谨防！ 一个不诚实的人很快就会面临 Dukkha。

A Lazy Boy
There was a 13-year old student who was very lazy. One day he was late for class.
Teacher: Why are you late for class today?
Student: Teacher, I am late because I was attacked by a robber on the street.
Teacher: Oh, that’s terrible! Were you hurt?
Student: No, teacher, I am alright.
Teacher: Anyway, I will phone your father afterwards. Now, can you hand over your
homework?
Student: The robber robbed me of my homework.
Reflection
Young people may be smart but lazy in their ways. Good values are needed
for bright and peaceful days.
懒惰的男孩
有一个13岁的学生，他很懒。 有一天，他上课迟到
了。 老师：今天上课怎么迟到了？ 学生：老师，我迟
到了，因为我在街上被强盗袭击了。 老师：噢，太可
怕了！ 你受伤了吗？ 学生：不用了，老师，我很好。

反射
年轻人可能很聪明，但行事却很懒惰。 明亮和平的日子需
要良好的价值观。

13. A Perfect Man
A lady teacher asked her class of 17-year old boys and girls: “Can anyone
tell me what would constitute a Perfect Man?” Jenny, a dreamy girl stood
up and said, “The Perfect Man is one who wakes up very early in the
morning, makes his own bed, cleans his room, does hard work, exercises
everyday, does not touch alcohol, helps when he is asked, does not
indulge in night life, is always punctual and goes to bed at 9 pm in the
night.” Alex, a quick-thinking boy stood up and declared, “Jenny’s Perfect
Man can only be found in jail!”
Reflection
No worldling in our world can be perfect. All have good and bad
points and that’s a fact.
完美男人
一位女老师问她班上的 17 岁男孩和女孩：“谁能告诉我什么才是完美
男人？” 梦幻般的女孩珍妮站起来说道：“完美的男人是早上起得很
早，自己整理床铺，打扫自己的房间，努力工作，每天锻炼身体，不
喝酒，在需要的时候帮忙。” 要求严格，不沉迷夜生活，总是准时，
晚上九点睡觉。” 思维敏捷的亚历克斯站了起来，宣称：“珍妮的完美
男人只有在监狱里才能找到！”
反射 我们这个世界上没有一个凡夫俗子能够是完美的。
都有优点和缺点，这是事实。

Cheating
A father found his 23-year old son at his desk in the room.
Father: Son, what have you been doing in your room?
Son : Dad, I have just finished writing my short Graduation Speech for our
College Graduation Ceremony next week.
Father : Can I have a look at the speech you have written?
Son : Sure Dad!
The father had the shock of his life when he read what his son had written: “
Ladies and Gentlemen, Good Morning! I am very happy to graduate out from
this College. I owe everything to The Internet … Google, Wikipedia and also
Microsoft office especially its fantastic tool of ‘Cut and Paste’…
Reflection How much is left when it comes to good honest work today?
When will the dishonest realize that cheating will not pay?
作弊 一位父亲在房间的办公桌前发现了他 23 岁的儿子。 父亲：
儿子，你在房间里做什么？ 儿子：爸爸，我刚刚为下周的大学毕
业典礼写完简短的毕业演讲。 父亲：我可以看看你写的演讲稿
吗？ 儿子：当然爸爸！ 当父亲读到儿子写下的文字时，震惊了一
生：“女士们，先生们，早上好！ 我很高兴从这所大学毕业。 我的

反思 今天，诚实的工作还剩下多少？ 什么时候不诚实
的人会意识到欺骗不会得到回报？
