Beware of the dangers of abusing the mobile phone.
* How many accidents have happened through a lack of mindfulness due to
using the mobile phone at improper places and inappropriate times?
* Beware of the dangers of ‘radiation’ through excessive use of the mobile
phone in empty talk, games and downloading.

cell phone while driving can cause a loss
of concentration on the road? Accidents
happen consequently.
* Stupidity and Heedlessness lead to
suffering.

Reflections
* One needs to be very mindful of one’s speech because wrong
speech can strain relationship with others.
* Wrong speech generates unwholesome kamma.
* Always practice Right Speech, that is “No Lying, No Malicious or
Divisive Speech, No Harsh or Rough Speech that hurts others and
No Gossip or Frivolous Talk.”

* The world around us is fraught with all sorts of dangers and traps.
* One needs to be alert and to practice mindfulness to steer clear of
precarious situations.
* Fishing and hunting are considered by the Buddhists as unskillful
hobbies as they cause suffering, hurt or kill other sentient beings.

* 一个人需要保持警惕并练习正念

* Birth, ageing, sickness and death are inevitable ... they are facts of life in Samsara,
conditioned existence. However, many do not come to terms with this ... they cannot
accept the problems that are inherent with it. Consequently, suffering is all the more
greater.
* Many cannot accept the natural process of ageing ... some lie about their ages; some dye
their graying hair; some go for face lifts and other cosmetic surgeries.
* How many can grow old gracefully with a mind of peace and acceptance? Only Dhamma
practice and realization can ensure this.
* Until and unless there is Dhamma realization, growing old can bring with it frustration,
anxiety, worry, fear and other negative states of the mind.
* May we strive diligently in the Dhamma in this life and all future lives until our minds are
enlightened!

* 生、老、病、死是不可避免的……它们是轮回中的生
命事实,是有为的存在。 然而,许多人并没有接受这

9. Reflections
Do not be selfish. Think of others.
Wise people realize the danger of ‘I’, ‘Me’ and ‘Mine’.
The world is filled with more and more who think only of themselves.
Dukkha arises as long as there is the ego or self in us. How many of
our actions go towards satisfying our ego-self? We need to strive for
a realization of Anatta or Non-self. Only then can our mind be truly
happy, peaceful and free. (Dukkha = Suffering)
反思
不要自私。 为别人着想。明智的人
认识到“我”、“我的”和“我的”的危险
。这个世界充满了越来越多只考虑
自己的人。只要我们内心还有自我
或自我,苦就会生起。 我们有多少
行为是为了满足我们的自我? 我们
需要努力实现无我或无我。 只有这

长辈相处时需要表现出耐心和理解。*
同样,长老们也需要了解年幼的人的想
法和做法。* 当所有人彼此表现出耐心
、理解、尊重、慈爱和同情时,就会有
和谐。
Reflections
* Sometimes, the older generation has problems understanding what the
younger ones are trying to communicate to them.
* The younger generation needs to show patience and understanding when
relating to the elders.
* Likewise, the elders need to understand the thinking and ways of the younger
ones.
* There will be harmony when all show patience, understanding, respect,
loving-kindness and compassion to one another. 10
11. Reflections
* Addiction to alcohol is more and more widespread today - even among the youths and students.
* Beware! Be heedful! The harm that alcohol can do to the body and mind is indeed immense.
* Don't start ingesting chemicals that have harmful addictive properties - nicotine from cigarettes,
ethanol in liquor and many alkaloids present in drugs. Once addiction sets in, problems and suffering
await the afflicted. There is wisdom in the Proverb "Prevention is better than cure."
* A breach of the 5th Precept ( which is to refrain from intoxicants ) can have its karmic consequences.
The 5th Precept is broken when the following conditions are fulfilled :
1. One knows of the presence of the harmful intoxicants.
2. One has the intention to take in the intoxicants.
3. One actually takes in or ingests the substance containing the intoxicants.
4. One's mind becomes tipsy/heedless/intoxicated/drunk/mindless as a result of the intoxicants.
“我的医生说,‘每天只喝一杯酒。’我可以忍受。”
反思
* 如今,酒精成瘾现象越来越普遍——甚至在年轻人和
学生中也是如此。* 谨防! 一定要小心! 酒精对身体和
精神的伤害确实是巨大的。* 不要开始摄入具有有害成
瘾特性的化学物质 - 香烟中的尼古丁、酒中的乙醇以及
药物中存在的许多生物碱。 一旦成瘾,问题和痛苦就会
等待着患者。 谚语“预防胜于治疗”蕴藏着智慧。* 违反
第五戒(即避免饮酒)可能会产生业力后果。 当满足以
下条件时,第五戒被破坏:1. 知道有害麻醉品的存在。
二、有吸食醉物之意。3. 实际摄入或摄入含有麻醉剂的
物质。4. 由于麻醉品的影响,一个人的头脑会变得微醺/
漫不经心/陶醉/醉酒/失去理智。

Reflections
We think times are hard for us? … There are others who are worse off.
Do not always just criticize, complain, condemn and curse the circumstances
you are in. If you can change the situation for the better, then take steps to
change it. If you cannot, then learn to embrace the situation the best you can.
You will then have less suffering.
反思
我们认为时代对我们来说很难吗? ……还有
其他人的情况更糟。 不要总是批评、抱怨、
谴责和咒骂你所处的环境。如果你能让情况变
得更好,那就采取措施改变它。 如果你做不
到,那就学会尽你所能去拥抱这种情况。 这
样你的痛苦就会少一些。

Life is full of unpleasant happenings and
surprises. (The 1st Noble Truth: life
contains inevitable, unavoidable Dukkha
(suffering / stress / pain / trouble).
One who has developed the mind to
attain good understanding and wisdom
will be able to cope more peacefully with
the tribulations of life.

生活充满了不愉快的事情
和意外。 (第一圣谛:生
命中不可避免地存在着苦
(Dukkha)。一个人若发
