eSCOUT is a collaborative storyboarding platform for Instructional Designers(ID) and Subject Matter Experts (SME) to communicate effectively about their design ideas of an e-Learning courseware.
The users are able to perform the following functions:
- ID’s and SME’s are able to communicate in real time.
- ID’s and SME’s are able to download the multimedia files.
- ID’s and SME’s are able to view the storyboarding template.
The eSCOUT system offers several functions to the users such as:
- able to auto-save their storyboard content.
- easy to navigate.
- able to provide different template to choose.
- able to provide different type of drawing tools.

5. INTRODUCTION
•E-learning was first introduced in Malaysia by the the fourth prime minister, Tun Dr.
Mahathir bin Mohamad when he announced vision 2020 for Malaysia in 1990s.
From that day onwards, e-learning has been introduced widely across Malaysia.
•An important aspects in e-learning is storyboard. Storyboard for e-learning is a
document that specifies the visual elements such as graphics and videos, text
elements, audio elements, interactions on every page in an online course.
“storyboard helps to promote authentic learning as extracted from the reflection
blog, it was also found that storyboard activity can be used as a great brainstorming
tool that helps trainee teachers to generate and visualize varieties of ideas in an
effective way.” - (Husnin, Din, Karim, Norman, & Hamdan, 2013)
6. PROJECT OVERVIEW
• This project is aimed to develop a web based and as well as mobile application
platform to support the shared cognitive user task intended for Instructional
Designers (ID) and Subject-Matter Experts (SME) in developing storyboard.
• eSCOUT is a system developed with the goal to assist design teams interactions by
allowing communication between ID and SME and the ability to perform
instructional design activities.
7. PROBLEM STATEMENT AND OBJECTIVES
• The problem statement of the research is no communication medium for ID and SME to collaborate in
creating an interactive content storyboard.
• Objectives
To identify the user requirement for e-learning
storyboard
To formulate a system framework of Assitive CoVis E-
learning Storyboard that can support SME and ID in
developing an e-learning course
To construct and develop a prototyping system
from the system framework
To evaluate the system framework

FYP Part 2
8. RESEARCH MOTIVATIONS
• To support designers-centeredness rather than learner centeredness
• To solve the communication problem between ID and SME
• To help ID and SME focus on their collaborative work
• To support ID and SME as a multimedia design team
9. JUSTIFICATION AND SCOPE
Based on (Pappas, 2015), from his research, he listed out the demand of e-Learning Software And Services in 2015 based on
the 2014 Training Industry Report [6].
•44% of companies intent to purchase online learning tools and systems
•41% of companies intent to purchase Learning Management Systems (LMSs)
•37% of companies intent to purchase authoring tools/systems
•33% of companies intent to purchase classroom tools and systems
•29% of companies intent to purchase content development products and services
•27% of companies intent to purchase courseware design and presentation tools and software
•18% of companies intent to purchase audio and web conferencing products and systems.
From this results, it shows that the exposure of e-learning software and tools worldwide is on the average side. However, a
platform for e-learning storyboard is still shallow in Malaysia and we intended to limit our scope of study in Malaysia to
encourage more people to use the platform across Malaysia.
13. Functional
