Importance Of Student Learning On The Mathematics Smarter...
In the 2017 school year, only 70.20% of West Shore Middle School students achieved their target (average percentage of target achieved) on the
Mathematics Smarter Balanced Assessment. By the 2018 school year, 75%– 80% of West Shore Middle School students will achieve their target
(average percentage of target achieved) on the Mathematics Smarter Balanced Assessment.
Student Learning Outcome 2 Rationale
It is my belief that there should be a clear through line that starts with the district goal, continues on to the specific school goal, and immediately into
the classroom. These goals are written to be effective and succinct. In the book Pathways to the Common Core Calkins, Ehrenworth and Lehman praise

I posed the question to my staff, "How can we utilize Arts Smarter Balance assessment data and instructional resources, digital library, to increase
student performance? In the quest to answer that professional learning essential question, I collaborated with my leadership team to plan and
implement a professional learning experience that assist teachers in gaining a robust understanding of the mathematics Smarter Balance assessment
sample items by claim in mathematics in order to utilize them throughout their curriculum.
My second step was to focus the next professional learning experience around staff working collaboratively in their grade level teams and departments
to have staff familiarize themselves with the Smarter Balance Claims and vocabulary in mathematics, examine scores within departments in order to
identify 3–5 high leverage mathematics Smarter Balance skills, investigate their curriculum units in order to embed high leverage skills, claims,
content, and vocabulary in instruction. Moreover, they will implement the mathematics Smarter Balance interim block assessments where the
assessment aligns naturally in their curriculum and then collaterally by grade level teams and departments analyze the assessment data to modify and
enhance their instruction. Consequently, I will lead professional development meetings to create an action plan to embed mathematics Smarter Balance
skills within instruction.

Light and Dark in Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness Essay...
Light and Dark in Heart of Darkness
Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness is a tragic tale of the white man's journey into the African jungle. When we peel away the layers, however, a
different journey is revealed – we venture into the soul of man, complete with the darkness of depravity as well as the wonderful. In this essence
Conrad uses this theme of light and darkness to contrast the civilized European world with the savage African world in Heart of Darkness.
As aforementioned, within Heart of Darkness, Conrad uses light and dark to symbolize good and evil, respectively.
"It is whiteness that is truly sinister and evil, for it symbolizes the immoral scramble for loot by the unscrupulous and unfeeling Belgian traders ... Show

As well as the obvious difference between the white and black, we can perhaps see how the boy is trapped beneath and within white greed.
This leads me on to the struggle between the white people and the native tribes, which plays into the next theme, that of light versus dark. From the
very start, Marlow, the main character, creates a sense of darkness.
At last, in its curved and imperceptible fall, the sun sank low, and from glowing white changed to a dull red without rays and without heat, as if about
to go out suddenly, stricken to death by the touch of that gloom brooding over a crowd of men"(Conrad 28).
The use of imperceptible shows the way in which darkness falls without distinction, it sneaks up on the reader and indeed the scene. The dull red is
lifeless and without energy and remains stagnant in its nature. Finally the use of the description, stricken to death the finally notion of darkness at its
worse is given.
Marlow's use of a modern city is the first glimpse of what he considers civilized and more importantly, uncivilized. Marlow begins by speaking of the
occupants of the boat. He explains that the owner of the boat is an accountant and a lawyer. This fact alludes to the idea of what might be considered
civilized. Furthermore the discussion he talks about the lights that are reflected in the water. This also creates the idea that he considers himself and the

Old Burial Ground Analysis
The cemetery I have chosen is known as the Old Burial Ground, which is located in Cambridge, MA. It is situated on the corner of Garden St. and
Massachusetts Avenue, and is in the neighborhood we know today as Harvard Square. Cambridge began as a settled community then known as
Newtown in 1631 by some of the first puritans. It was an area that early on allowed for people to have a house with some area for harvesting crops.
The town consisted of mostly farmers, and artisans until the middle of the 18th century. Harvard University was also introduced very early on in
Cambridge at around 1636 found by ministers and the namesake of the school John Harvard. This led to more distinguished people being introduced
into the community, some becoming ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance there were approximately six headstones with cherub designs, and only one was of a larger height, and more valuable material. The
others, while having a considerable width did not show reasonable height all coming in around 1foot or so. This could have been from a settling or
sinking into the ground over time. There was also one headstone that really stood out having a more ornate cherub, along with a candle inscribed at
the top. This particular one also had very intricate lettering, and very deep detailed carving for the inscription. Among these particular headstones
the ages varied from eighteen to seventy two years old, and one had no name inscribed into it. As stated by Harrison Hill (2012) there were also two
people worth noting in the cemetery they were Susanna, and Deacon Aaron Hill who was Deacon of the First Church, and played an important role
in the Revolutionary war. However he and his wife Susanna both perished from the measles in 1792 (p. 6). The remaining headstones stood between
around two to three feet in height, and one to two feet wide. Most of the headstones reflected the deaths head or urn/willow design that is common in
New England. I also discovered a factor that I did not think about when creating my hypothesis, and that was footstones. I would have assumed with
more material and labor involved this would have meant a greater cost involved. However, among the

Elementary And Secondary Education Act Waiver Application
"Under Virginia's approved Elementary and Secondary Education Act waiver application, schools must meet increasing targets– referred to as Annual
Measurable Objectives (AMOs) – in reading and mathematics for all students, three "Proficiency Gap Groups," and other subgroups in order to meet
federal accountability requirements" (Virginia Department of Education, 2015b, p. 1). AMO's are not available for science; however, scores can be
compared with the division and the state. Newsome Park Elementary School has a longstanding history of not meeting AMO's in reading or math and

Calvin's Epistemology Essay
"How is it possible to know anything at all?" John Calvin gives his answer to this timeless question in Chapters 1–3 of his Institutes. His theory of

There, he sought more education, and opted to further his intellectual career. Years later in 1536, Institutes of the Christian Religion, was released by
Calvin himself in Basel, Switzerland.6 To this day, it remains one of the most important and influential literary works regardingtheology. This piece
also made Calvin known as a key follower of Protestantism. His theory of epistemology is based on his belief that humans are naturally aware of God.
He also asserts two fundamental knowledges– God and self– and he elaborates upon the relationship between the two.7
How is it possible to know anything at all? Theologians and philosophers across the ages have contemplated, debated, and wrote about this timeless
question. There have been many proposed theories, and many still exist while others have been modified, or totally abandoned. As Christians, we
like to use "God" as the answer for everything we do not understand, so one might respond, "God allows us to know things." Okay, yes, in a sense,
because He is absolutely sovereign, so anything at all that ever occurs happens with his permission.8 While this simplistic answer may be enough for the

Boston from 1850–1900 There was no time in Boston that was most emphasized, than the 1850's to 1900's. In the city of Boston there were a lot of
changes that had occurred between the second half of the 19th century, not only with the city but also with the people living in Boston. Boston has

Boston had changed majorly from being the merchant city to the industrial metropolis. The population of people went up about Вѕ in 50 years of its

It was the same with the omnibus that was created in 1826, because it moved slowly and didn't hold many people. The steam railroad was another
form of transportation that was introduced in 1835 and it was a better form of transportation because it moved quicker and could hold many more
passengers, but it was also expensive and didn't always take the people to where they wanted to go because it didn't stop very often, and only went one
route.
There were land changes that occurred during the second half of the 19th century such as the South End and the Back Bay. The South End was almost
entirely taken up by houses in 1880 and then went to the Back Bay that was almost completely taken up by houses in 1900. Only the rich could afford
to live on these pieces of land, because they were so expensive. Street railways were created and they were the most aggressive expansion in the 19th
century. From the 1880's to the 1890's street railways took up at least six miles from City Hall in Boston. The service of the first railway began in
1852. The first street railway in Boston would go between Harvard Square, Cambridge, Summerville, and Union Square. The increase in the street
railway brought excitement for the entrepreneur's as well in other cities in America. Eventually the street railways replaced the omnibus's that were

The Biopsychosocial Model Essay
INTRODUCTION "Don't treat the disease, treat the patient" [9]. The concept of health has seemed to become complex in definition over the centuries
as science improves. "Health is a complete state of physical, mental and social well–being and not merely the absence of disease and infirmity."–World
Health Definition of Health (1948) [9] In order to understand health, different models or frameworks for thinking have been developed which have
been useful. The Biomedical model which evolved since the 19th century from Galen's (Greek physician 200AD) concept of pathogen, focused on
removing the disease/disability and not on prevention or general well–being [9]. The Biopsychosocial model however, doesn't merely focus on the
physical state of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is reductionist because it reduces illness to low–level processes such as chemical imbalances, pathogens, genetic predispositions and disorders.
According to this model, individuals are not responsible for illnesses caused by factors beyond their control and treatment should include vaccination,
surgery and the like which all aim to remove the cause of the illness. In this model of practice, an individual can either be healthy or ill because there
is no continuum. That a psychological disorder can lead to an illness but there is no in–between. The biomedical view thus identifies treatment of
various parts with the ultimate goal of a cure. If success in this model is defined as a cure, death is defined as ultimate failure, to be avoided at all
cost. Patients whose diseases cannot be "cured" are deemed as "incurable". [7] The Biopsychosocial (BPS) model greatly differs because while the
biomedical answers the main question "why do people get sick?" the BPS also answers the question "why else do people get sick?" [9] According to
the BPS model, the human being is complex and must be understood as a whole. That there is a relationship between body, mind and environment and
that one aspect affects the others. Health and illness are caused by multiple factors and have multiple effects, from the biological or cellular level

Summary Of Srinivasha RamaanujanBy John Keats
collaborated on several ground breaking papers. But in 1917, as a result of the climate and a poor diet, Ramanujan contracted tuberculosis. A well
known story tells Hardy visiting him in hospital; unable to think what to say.
Placing Ramanujan along side John Keats may seem a bit paradoxical as he former belonging to Mahemtics the latter to English Literature. Moreover,
Ramanujan has never been marked having an interest in English language nor in literature. But the juxtaposition is apt and appropriate in the sense
that both the heroes of respective faculties are te best examples of the proverb, "Men live in deeds not in years". John Keats lived for only twenty–sic
years. In his short span of life granted to him, he dived deep into the ocean of literature and gave many precious verses that are peculiar and unique.
He left an everlasting imprint on the body of English literature by devoting his life to the service of English Literarure. He lived through many odds in
life. Miseries dominated in his life. He died of tuberculosis. He stands no way less than the other poets, some were fortunate even to spend enough to a
century.
Likewise, Srinivasha Ramanujan lived only thirty– three years. For him also, life was not a bed of roses– trails and distributions became part and
parcel of his life. But he remained engrossed in his mathematical passion notching up several milestones in his short life span. Even though he had lived
for only thirty–three years, he has contributed a lot

Explain Space As An Analytical Approach To Performance...
The purpose of my research was to explain space as an analytical approach to performance analysis and apply this to Freeman (2017) shown at Derby
Theatre. The information had to be understandable and relevant to the topic discussed and reinforced by reputable sources. The books I used served
this purpose being written by academics and reviewed by other expert during the editing process.
Whenever putting together, a presentation, the assumption that the viewers have no prior knowledge of the subject being discussed helps determine
which resources are used to gather the information needed. I knew that I needed to approach Space as a subject as if I was also a complete novice, so my
first instinct was to look up any writing that had an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This book is designed to examine the relationship between scenography and performance, and is another collaboration of works by different
experts. Although it does mention different types of space in the first section after that the purpose of the text is to highlight the possibilities for
theatre in the future thanks to technological advances and new media. This again meant that it was only the initial section of the resource that I
felt able to use for my work. Thanks to how it breaks up space I was still able to apply this to my analysis of Freeman (2017). Its ability to divide
space into its different theoretical capabilities helped me to do the same with the performance and see how they had utilised the space to the
advantage of the story. A clear description of what performance space is and how it can be applied to a performance is given in this book. "The
potentials of spaces for performance are necessarily spaces where reality and illusion are both a simulation of the material world but also, and
simultaneously real" (Oddey and White, 2006: 15) highlights how the space can be used for both the real and the illusionary in theatre and helped to
tie my section about space into the analytical framework of phenomenology which our group also discussed.
Two of the citations I used came from McKinney J and

Who Is Ramanuj A Hero's Journey?
The Life of Ramanujan based on Joseph Campbell's model of analysis
Srinivasa Ramanujan was one the greatest mathematicians in India. With no formal training in pure mathematics, he made significant contributions to
the analytical theory of numbers and made an outbreak in continued fractions, elliptical functions and infinite series. He is deeply religious and
credits his mathematical capacities to divinity. He once told his friend, "An equation for me has no meaning, unless it expresses a thought of God".

Characters of Sir Walter Elliot and Anne Elliot in Jane...
The Characters of Sir Walter Elliot and Anne Elliot in Persuasion
In Persuasion, by Jane Austen, there are many exceptional characters. Perhaps two of the most memorable are Sir Walter Elliot, and his daughter, Anne
Elliot. These characters are well shaped and have something about them that transcends time and social class, enabling readers of the all ages, to feel
they have something in common with them.
Jane Austen has created a very silly, vain man with immense family pride in Sir Walter Elliot. Sir Walter is extremely proud of his goodlooks, his
family connections and above all, his baronetcy.

As a result of this, Sir Walter has very unusual opinions of people. Sir Walter's opinions of people stem from: their personal appearance and their
family connections. Because of his concern for personal appearance, Sir Walter has a low opinion of anyone belonging to the navy, the reason being :
[it] cuts up a man's youth ... Admiral Baldwin's age.
He holds both Admiral and Mrs. Wallis in the highest regard, however, as they are both very handsome. The reader is not impressed with Sir Walter's
ideas.
Sir Walter is also impressed by people's family connections. He is eager to meet Lady Dalrymple, not because she is family, but because she is a
Viscountess. These opinions Sir Walter holds and his reasons for acquainting himself with others very much emphasizes that Sir Walter is very
conscious of his baronetcy. His pride is also apparent, as he is condescending to people whom he sees as of lower social class.
Austen further develops Sir Walter through the actions and dialogue of others. Through the characters of Admiral Croft and Elizabeth Elliot, the
reader's impression of Sir Walter is strengthened. Admiral Croft remarks toAnne that Sir Walter must be "rather a dressy man for his time of life" and
Elizabeth, again to Anne, says:
One would imagine ...but he abominates them.
Sir Walter's extreme obsession with personal appearance is again emphasized, making him not well liked.
Finally, Sir Walter's own dialogue condemns him further.

As I've mentioned previously we departmentalize at Chattahoochee. I teach three math and a social studies and writing/grammar class. I have 27
students in my first math rotation, 24 in the second, and 22 in the third. In math I mainly ability group students as a more effective way of
differentiating instruction to meet the needs of my students. These groups are very fluid though depending on the AKS/skill. The groups often change
weekly if not daily depending on the activity planned. My first rotation is AC math, but I still have several student they need a little extra help on
certain topics and they are still vary in their abilities. However, in this class and the others at times the kids are also grouped based on common
misconceptions. In Social Studies, I use various types of grouping depending on the activity. When we jigsaw I will normally use heterogeneous
groups, but use homogeneous for projects.

Analysis Of John Irving 's ' The Fate God '
Everyday people lose something in one way or the other and for most of the things, they don't ponder on the importance of the things lost. Throughout
the novel, John Irving depicts different unique objects that has either has no arms or has lost their arms. The armadillo, Tabitha's dressmaker dummy,
his swaddled body, and Mary Magdalene's statue are symbolically omen for Owen. Of all the objects, the Watahantowet's familiar totem was greatest
message from God to Owen for that it appeared in the beginning and in the end. In the fate God has prepared for him, Owen learns the true meaning of
loss through various encounters with armless objects because each teaches him a thing about loss.
The curious armadillo may be small, but losing a part of it meant something important is lost in Johnny and Owen's childhood. Before the death of
Tabitha's, Johnny allows Owen to borrow the armadillo, but afterward, Owen unexpectedly returns the armadillo without claws. As Dan says,
"We've lost a part of ourselves" (86). Johnny and Owen lose the innocence of children and the positive and humorous attitude toward matters around
them. Also their relationship as friends becomes a bit pull apart. To Owen, the claws are a way to express his belief: "GOD HAS TAKEN YOUR
MOTHER. MY HANDS WERE THE INSTRUMENT. GOD HAS TAKEN MY HANDS. I AM GOD'S INSTRUMENT" (87). Despite the fact that
Owen may be used by God, Owen takes off the "arms" of the armadillo to show that he's sorry and that he will never be

Essay On Sylvia Plath
"Dying is an art, like everything else. I do it exceptionally well. I do it so it feels like hell. I do it so it feels real. I guess you could say I've a call"
(2603). Sylvia Plath was born October 27, 1932, in Boston Massachusetts. She carried herself with a non–apologetic attitude and an obsession with
death, so much so that she tried to take her own life on more than one occasion. Her first attempt happened during the summer of her junior year in
college. After taking several sleeping pills, she crawled under her mother's house and was not found until three days later. After some time in a
psychiatric hospital, she recovered fully and attained a Fulbright scholarship to Newnham College, Cambridge ("Sylvia Plath," Famousauthors.org).
Her poetry was known as a confessional type, typically based on her innermost feelings and thoughts, with a twist for the dramatic and sensationalism
("Sylvia Plath," Biography.com). She also wrote one novel, The Bell Jar, a dark literary work said to parallel much of her own life. In a forward to The
Bell Jar, written by Frances McCullough, McCullough states "Although her illness was never diagnosed, several researchers in the field have noted
Plath's unerring description of schizophrenic perception..." (xvi). Perhaps this condition had something to do with Plath's early demise, for it was not
long after publication of The Bell Jar, that Plath made the decision to take her own life.

The Event That Changed My Life Essay
Describe an event from your past and how it shaped you as a person.   I'm a victim, I thought. The books were closed. The papers were signed.
It was official. The next school year, I would enter the fifth grade –– again.   I knew I was gifted and capable of more, but after we moved from
urban Oklahoma City to Tulsa before the fourth grade, my intelligence was meaningless. Suburban–school luxuries like computers, advanced math, and
special ways to learn English flooded my brain. Homework was an afterthought.   Homework was not an afterthought to my fifth grade teacher,
however. With her annoying, dogged persistency, Mrs. Thomas gave me "zero slips" whenever I "forgot" an assignment. She was on a

Tears welled up in my eyes but anger manifest itself instead. It's not fair. My grades may be bad, I grumbled angrily, but I'm NOT stupid.
Yet stupidly, I refused to ask for help.   Stupidly, I let the entire year pass me by.   The end of school came eventually, and I abandoned
dreams of the sixth grade. Luckily, I was transferring to another elementary school, but this offered me little consolation. Only dummies have to repeat
a grade.   The final bell rang, and students erupted in a joyful chorus of cheers as summer break began. I sang a melancholy dirge of self–pity.
My bitterness increased as I waited for my mother to pick me up. She came at last and I jumped up, anxious to leave forever. Again, Mrs. Thomas
thwarted my plans; she came outside to talk to my mother, undoubtedly about my ignominious fate. As they murmured, I viewed the co–conspirators
with hostile eyes. I'm a victim, the final sigh of my fifth grade year whispered wearily.   Before I could escape, she had to heighten my torture
with a few words of wisdom and the obligatory good–bye. I ignored her words as she stood before me. Her words had not averted this horrible
moment. I prayed that she was done, but soon she had her arms around me. Not strangling my incorrigible neck, but hugging my ten–year old
shoulders.   I remember few details of this hug. First,

Pavlov was a well–known surgeon in Europe. In his early years he wanted to become a priest but discovered Charles Darwin whom changed his
life. With his new calling in science, Pavlov began to work with animals especially dogs. He was fascinated by dogs and even gave them names.
Johnson states that Pavlov felt the need to save the dogs from being slaughter for foods or hunted for personal reasons. In his most remarkable
experiment, Pavlov used a bell to train the dogs to salivate. Naturally, dogs salivate when they eat to help them swallow food. This is known as the
unconditioned response because it is happening automatically. A few trials later, the dog associates the ringing bell with food. This is known as the
conditioned stimulus because the dog finally learned to associate the ring of the bell with food. Unconditioned stimulus happens when the dog
salivates from eating. From now on every time the bell rings, the dog thought it was going to get food because that is what the dog has become used
to. Immediately, the dog begins salivating by just hearing the ringing bell whether the dog saw any food or not. This is called a conditioned
response, because the dog salivates by learning to associate the bell ringing with food. Pavlov simply studied reflexes, automatic behavior that is
caused by a stimulus from the environment. According to Johnson, during the experiment Pavlov rarely used the bell. Later in his life, Pavlov was
giving an album with all the photographs of his dogs by his students. Also in 1935, he was honored with a statue called a monument to a dog. On top
of the statue there was a water fountain which symbolizes the dog

In 1671 Locke wrote two drafts of his essay which revolutionized English philosophy. His essay was about the principles of morality and revealed
religion. Locke concluded that questions about religious and moral principles could be answered only after thorough investigation of the human
understanding and of human knowledge.5 He had many theories and ideas, which he spent most of his life trying to find the answers to. Locke
believes that "everything existing or occurring in a mind either is or includes an idea; and all human knowledge both starts from and is founded
on ideas".6 His ideas and essays caused people to get upset because of the newness of the ideas. Locke believed that everyone should be equal to
pursue what he or she wants. He believed that everyone is born perfect and you build on what happen to you in your life. This is the theory of

Locke believed that society and your surroundings were what made people bad or evil. Locke's main belief was in "Life, Liberty, and Property" and

Can You Ever Faced A Barrier Or An Obstacle?
Have you ever faced a barrier or an obstacle? Has the barrier ever been something good? This rarely happens, but it occurred in my life. I had to
make a life changing decision that could actually make my life better! In 2011, I skipped a grade and went from third grade to fourth grade after
only three months. I was extremely scared and nervous. I did not know what to do. I wondered if my friends would be upset or angry at me for
leaving them behind. I felt frightened at the thought of people being jealous of me and bullying me. I thought people would call me names or give me
dirty looks if I skipped third grade. More importantly, I thought my brother or my cousins would be upset. I was plain scared! On the other hand, if
I skipped a grade, I would be looked up to. People would at least know who I was. My family would be so proud of me. I had not even thought about
the perks of being in fourth grade! There were so many more things I would learn, and at such a young age! There were pros and cons, but there was
also a beginning, and perhaps I should start there.
In around the end of October, I got a prescription for a medicine. I had to take the medicine for a week. The medication did not allow for me to go
outside, so I had to give a note to my teacher, requesting to stay in the classroom during recess. My teacher's name was Mrs. McGovern and she let
me stay inside the empty classroom for recess. I did not have anything to do, so I decided to take some scrap paper and write

Essay about Richard as an Anti-hero
Richard as an Anti–hero:
To what extent does Richard embody this archetype?
In William Shakespeare's play, Richard III, Richard is portrayed as physically deformed and psychologically affected. It is believed that his inner soul
is a reflection of his physical deformities. Richard is considered as the protagonist of this play, however this is highly contradictive. A protagonist is
the hero of the story who exhibits characteristics of courage and perseverance, and is admired for their brave deeds as well as their noble qualities.
Richard however, contradicts the character portrayal of a hero and demonstrates himself as the exact opposite: an anti–hero. The play opens up with

Your beauty, that did haunt me in my sleep

Richard takes a huge risk, handing Anne a knife and demanding she take away his life for he had murdered both her father and husband. He insists
to her it is only fair that she take his life in response. Lady Anne rejects, falling for Richard's trap for she accepts his proposal of love. Richard
succeeds in manipulation. In the scene, Richard plays the role of a lover who will provide Anne with the emotional support she would need;
especially after suffering two loses. By persuading and manipulating Lady Anne, Richard was able to get what he was really after; the power and a
truce with the house of Lancaster. This method of persuasion and manipulation are the basic fundamentals that Richard uses on those he sees as useful
in accomplishing his devilish deeds.
Family, loyalty, trust and marriage are some of the values and traditions that Richard ignores. "Richard acts like a caring brother (to Clarence),
devoted lover, the innocent who is unjustly accused, a pious man of God and the simple fellow who is too modest to become King" (Cambridge 235).
"I will deliver for you or else lie for you" (1, 1,115.) are the exact words that Richard expresses to Clarence when Clarence was being sent to the tower.

Characteristics Of A Good Student Essay
A good student is someone who constantly tries to do the right thing and makes education an important priority. Being a good student in school is an
excellent start on having a successful future. Motivation is the key to their success. There are many qualities to be considered a good student. Three
of the most important qualities are maintaining good grades, having excellent behavior, and managing your time wisely. Trying to maintain good
grades are very important when in school. Having grades like "A's" and "B's" for example will result in having many educational opportunities and
rewards. Colleges, job companies, or scholarship committees will review grades and other information on a school transcript to see if that student is
eligible and satisfies the requirements needed. GPA stands forgrade point average, so the higher the grade, the higher the GPA will climb up. This
results in getting more money for college if the grade point average is an excellent score. There are some events and programs that reward students
for having high and excellent grades. The National Honor Society is one of those programs. In order for a student's grade to stay on top, completing
school assignments are an essential way to do so. It's not possible to get through or even pass a class without completing assignments. Usually, the
class expectations will say, for example; quizzes are twenty–five percent, homework or classwork is fifteen percent, and tests are forty percent when it

The Circles And Loops By Antonia Susan Drabble Byatt
Chapter OneWords on the "Circles and loops" Antonia Susan Drabble Byatt, the one who has been writing during all her life stats: ...words have been
all my life, all my life–this need is like the Spider's need who carries before her a huge Burden of Silk which she must spin out–the silk is her life, her

sense that writing ended real, or even extra real, one's knowledgeable growth and leaning and one's capabilities certainly pervades Byatt's mature work,

On the contrary to those writers who prefer to distinct their fiction from their nonfiction, she has never desired such a distinction: "From my early

response to the pleasure and power of books." Yet, this greed reveals itself in a number of ways in her work especially through literary allusion and

The Scary Interview
Interview Exam results are not enough; Cambridge likes to see what it is getting. A personal statement is also required, which if compelling enough
will result in an invitation to be interviewed. This is the most crucial and scary part of the application process and is designed to investigate the
student's suitability. There are myths surrounding the interviews. Contrary to widely held views, the admissions tutors state they do not set out to trick
candidates with weird questions, but discuss issues around the chosen subject and personal statement. Students need to display flexible minds that are
receptive to teaching; they have to be passionate and processes mental stamina. Being nervous will not count against the student but they do need to
voice and defend opinions with logic. Many successful candidates said they relished the opportunity to discuss their opinions with a world leading
authority, finding it both challenging and invigorating. Choosing a college The university prospectus, has in the past, informed potential applicants
that the college they choose is not that important because the teaching will be the same. Many students disagree. Teaching may well be similar but it
is still vital that students choose a college they will feel comfortable in: after all for undergraduates this is going to be home for at least three years.

Comparison of Eric Liddell and Harold Abraham in Chariots...
Have you ever wondered how two athletes with two different faiths can change their own lives by their ways of living? Eric Liddell was a Scottish
runner and a faithful Christian. On the other hand, Harold Abraham was a British runner and a Jew who struggled to change other people's thought of
Jews. Both of these men ran in the 1924 Olympics for different purposes. The movie "Chariots of Fire" showed how Eric Liddell and Harold Abrahams
differed from one another. Eric Liddell and Harold Abrahams were different in their faith, economic status, and their motivations.
First, Eric Liddell and Harold Abrahams differed in their faith. Eric Liddell was a faithful Christian. As a faithful Christian, Eric Liddell frequently
attended church on Sundays. Not only did he attend church, but he also preached in different churches. The movie ("Chariots of Fire", Hugh
Hudson) showed a scene where he was preaching and reading a passage from the Bible. On the other hand, Harold Abrahams was of the Jewish faith.
For instance, Jews do not eat pork because in the Old Testament the Israelites were commanded to abstain from it. Proof that Harold Abrahams
followed this belief was seen in the movie when it showed that his girlfriend Sybil order pork in the restaurant and Harold felt first offended, and then
amused by her mistake. In nineteen twenty–four Jews were frequently disrespected regarded as an inferior race. An example of this was when Rodgers,

Summary Of Margaret Atwood's The Victory Burlesk
Madeleine Davies had once said that Margaret Atwood's "female bodies are inevitably coded bodies that tell the story of the subject's experience within
a political economy that seeks to consume them, convert them into consumers in turn, shrink them, neutralize them, silence them, and contain them
physically or metaphorically." (Davies 60). In Margaret Atwood's short story, The Victory Burlesk, Atwood is showing just that; Atwood is
demonstrating how a woman is shrunken, silenced, and contained. This short story is bringing attention to how people feel shame for women in
realization of reality, and how there is a focus on the 'Good Woman' and the 'Bad Woman', how 'Bad Woman' are represented.
The Victory Burlesk is a story in which a woman is on stage and reveals herself as an elderly woman, putting on a show for one another to watch, a
show in which people in the audience began to feel shame about. "I could feel shame washing through me." (Atwood 20–21), there is a woman on the
stage, making herself vulnerable for everyone to see, and yet others are shameful in this situation. Why do others feel shame? Because there is a
realization that this woman is real. That that is a actual body up there, one that no one wants to sexualize anymore due to her age and appearance. But
also because they are not properly showing the representation of how women are shown on stage. Difference can make one feel uncomfortable, to the
point they feel shame for another person. It was seen as if

Importance Of Student Learning On The Mathematics Smarter...

  • 1. Importance Of Student Learning On The Mathematics Smarter... In the 2017 school year, only 70.20% of West Shore Middle School students achieved their target (average percentage of target achieved) on the Mathematics Smarter Balanced Assessment. By the 2018 school year, 75%– 80% of West Shore Middle School students will achieve their target (average percentage of target achieved) on the Mathematics Smarter Balanced Assessment. Student Learning Outcome 2 Rationale It is my belief that there should be a clear through line that starts with the district goal, continues on to the specific school goal, and immediately into the classroom. These goals are written to be effective and succinct. In the book Pathways to the Common Core Calkins, Ehrenworth and Lehman praise the Common Core for being so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I posed the question to my staff, "How can we utilize Arts Smarter Balance assessment data and instructional resources, digital library, to increase student performance? In the quest to answer that professional learning essential question, I collaborated with my leadership team to plan and implement a professional learning experience that assist teachers in gaining a robust understanding of the mathematics Smarter Balance assessment sample items by claim in mathematics in order to utilize them throughout their curriculum. My second step was to focus the next professional learning experience around staff working collaboratively in their grade level teams and departments to have staff familiarize themselves with the Smarter Balance Claims and vocabulary in mathematics, examine scores within departments in order to identify 3–5 high leverage mathematics Smarter Balance skills, investigate their curriculum units in order to embed high leverage skills, claims, content, and vocabulary in instruction. Moreover, they will implement the mathematics Smarter Balance interim block assessments where the assessment aligns naturally in their curriculum and then collaterally by grade level teams and departments analyze the assessment data to modify and enhance their instruction. Consequently, I will lead professional development meetings to create an action plan to embed mathematics Smarter Balance skills within instruction. My third step is to ... • 2. Light and Dark in Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness Essay... Light and Dark in Heart of Darkness Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness is a tragic tale of the white man's journey into the African jungle. When we peel away the layers, however, a different journey is revealed – we venture into the soul of man, complete with the darkness of depravity as well as the wonderful. In this essence Conrad uses this theme of light and darkness to contrast the civilized European world with the savage African world in Heart of Darkness. As aforementioned, within Heart of Darkness, Conrad uses light and dark to symbolize good and evil, respectively. "It is whiteness that is truly sinister and evil, for it symbolizes the immoral scramble for loot by the unscrupulous and unfeeling Belgian traders ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As well as the obvious difference between the white and black, we can perhaps see how the boy is trapped beneath and within white greed. This leads me on to the struggle between the white people and the native tribes, which plays into the next theme, that of light versus dark. From the very start, Marlow, the main character, creates a sense of darkness. At last, in its curved and imperceptible fall, the sun sank low, and from glowing white changed to a dull red without rays and without heat, as if about to go out suddenly, stricken to death by the touch of that gloom brooding over a crowd of men"(Conrad 28). The use of imperceptible shows the way in which darkness falls without distinction, it sneaks up on the reader and indeed the scene. The dull red is lifeless and without energy and remains stagnant in its nature. Finally the use of the description, stricken to death the finally notion of darkness at its worse is given. Marlow's use of a modern city is the first glimpse of what he considers civilized and more importantly, uncivilized. Marlow begins by speaking of the occupants of the boat. He explains that the owner of the boat is an accountant and a lawyer. This fact alludes to the idea of what might be considered civilized. Furthermore the discussion he talks about the lights that are reflected in the water. This also creates the idea that he considers himself and the passengers

  • 4. Old Burial Ground Analysis The cemetery I have chosen is known as the Old Burial Ground, which is located in Cambridge, MA. It is situated on the corner of Garden St. and Massachusetts Avenue, and is in the neighborhood we know today as Harvard Square. Cambridge began as a settled community then known as Newtown in 1631 by some of the first puritans. It was an area that early on allowed for people to have a house with some area for harvesting crops. The town consisted of mostly farmers, and artisans until the middle of the 18th century. Harvard University was also introduced very early on in Cambridge at around 1636 found by ministers and the namesake of the school John Harvard. This led to more distinguished people being introduced into the community, some becoming ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance there were approximately six headstones with cherub designs, and only one was of a larger height, and more valuable material. The others, while having a considerable width did not show reasonable height all coming in around 1foot or so. This could have been from a settling or sinking into the ground over time. There was also one headstone that really stood out having a more ornate cherub, along with a candle inscribed at the top. This particular one also had very intricate lettering, and very deep detailed carving for the inscription. Among these particular headstones the ages varied from eighteen to seventy two years old, and one had no name inscribed into it. As stated by Harrison Hill (2012) there were also two people worth noting in the cemetery they were Susanna, and Deacon Aaron Hill who was Deacon of the First Church, and played an important role in the Revolutionary war. However he and his wife Susanna both perished from the measles in 1792 (p. 6). The remaining headstones stood between around two to three feet in height, and one to two feet wide. Most of the headstones reflected the deaths head or urn/willow design that is common in New England. I also discovered a factor that I did not think about when creating my hypothesis, and that was footstones. I would have assumed with more material and labor involved this would have meant a greater cost involved. However, among the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Elementary And Secondary Education Act Waiver Application "Under Virginia's approved Elementary and Secondary Education Act waiver application, schools must meet increasing targets– referred to as Annual Measurable Objectives (AMOs) – in reading and mathematics for all students, three "Proficiency Gap Groups," and other subgroups in order to meet federal accountability requirements" (Virginia Department of Education, 2015b, p. 1). AMO's are not available for science; however, scores can be compared with the division and the state. Newsome Park Elementary School has a longstanding history of not meeting AMO's in reading or math and performing below division and state averages in science and social studies. There were 459 students enrolled at Newsome Park in the fall of 2014, of these students 106 were enrolled in third grade (Virginia Department of Education, 2015b). The pass rate for all third grade students in math stood at 35 percent at Newsome Park Elementary School, 66 percent across the division, and 74 percent at the state level (Virginia Department of Education, 2015b). Gap group 1 pass rates are disaggregated into two categories, students with disabilities, and economically disadvantaged. It remains unclear if the economically disadvantaged students represented in the proficiency rate by subgroup are unduplicated. Pass rates for students with disabilities at the school stood at 14 percent, 32 percent in the division, and 46 percent across the state (Virginia Department of Education, 2015b). Pass rates for economically disadvantaged students in the school stood at 33 percent, 58 percent in the division and 63 percent across the state. Gap group 2 (Black students) pass rate at the school stood at 31 percent, 67 percent in the division, and 75 percent across the state (Virginia Department of Education, 2015b). Years later in 1536, Institutes of the Christian Religion, was released by Calvin himself in Basel, Switzerland.6 To this day, it remains one of the most important and influential literary works regardingtheology. This piece also made Calvin known as a key follower of Protestantism. His theory of epistemology is based on his belief that humans are naturally aware of God. He also asserts two fundamental knowledges– God and self– and he elaborates upon the relationship between the two.7 How is it possible to know anything at all? Theologians and philosophers across the ages have contemplated, debated, and wrote about this timeless question. There have been many proposed theories, and many still exist while others have been modified, or totally abandoned. As Christians, we like to use "God" as the answer for everything we do not understand, so one might respond, "God allows us to know things." Okay, yes, in a sense, because He is absolutely sovereign, so anything at all that ever occurs happens with his permission.8 While this simplistic answer may be enough for the

  • 9. The Biopsychosocial Model Essay INTRODUCTION "Don't treat the disease, treat the patient" [9]. The concept of health has seemed to become complex in definition over the centuries as science improves. "Health is a complete state of physical, mental and social well–being and not merely the absence of disease and infirmity."–World Health Definition of Health (1948) [9] In order to understand health, different models or frameworks for thinking have been developed which have been useful. The Biomedical model which evolved since the 19th century from Galen's (Greek physician 200AD) concept of pathogen, focused on removing the disease/disability and not on prevention or general well–being [9]. The Biopsychosocial model however, doesn't merely focus on the physical state of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is reductionist because it reduces illness to low–level processes such as chemical imbalances, pathogens, genetic predispositions and disorders. According to this model, individuals are not responsible for illnesses caused by factors beyond their control and treatment should include vaccination, surgery and the like which all aim to remove the cause of the illness. In this model of practice, an individual can either be healthy or ill because there is no continuum. That a psychological disorder can lead to an illness but there is no in–between. The biomedical view thus identifies treatment of various parts with the ultimate goal of a cure. If success in this model is defined as a cure, death is defined as ultimate failure, to be avoided at all cost. Patients whose diseases cannot be "cured" are deemed as "incurable". [7] The Biopsychosocial (BPS) model greatly differs because while the biomedical answers the main question "why do people get sick?" the BPS also answers the question "why else do people get sick?" [9] According to the BPS model, the human being is complex and must be understood as a whole. That there is a relationship between body, mind and environment and that one aspect affects the others. Health and illness are caused by multiple factors and have multiple effects, from the biological or cellular level ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Summary Of Srinivasha RamaanujanBy John Keats collaborated on several ground breaking papers. But in 1917, as a result of the climate and a poor diet, Ramanujan contracted tuberculosis. A well known story tells Hardy visiting him in hospital; unable to think what to say. Placing Ramanujan along side John Keats may seem a bit paradoxical as he former belonging to Mahemtics the latter to English Literature. Moreover, Ramanujan has never been marked having an interest in English language nor in literature. But the juxtaposition is apt and appropriate in the sense that both the heroes of respective faculties are te best examples of the proverb, "Men live in deeds not in years". John Keats lived for only twenty–sic years. In his short span of life granted to him, he dived deep into the ocean of literature and gave many precious verses that are peculiar and unique. He left an everlasting imprint on the body of English literature by devoting his life to the service of English Literarure. He lived through many odds in life. Miseries dominated in his life. He died of tuberculosis. He stands no way less than the other poets, some were fortunate even to spend enough to a century. Likewise, Srinivasha Ramanujan lived only thirty– three years. The purpose of my research was to explain space as an analytical approach to performance analysis and apply this to Freeman (2017) shown at Derby Theatre. This again meant that it was only the initial section of the resource that I felt able to use for my work. Thanks to how it breaks up space I was still able to apply this to my analysis of Freeman (2017). Its ability to divide space into its different theoretical capabilities helped me to do the same with the performance and see how they had utilised the space to the advantage of the story. A clear description of what performance space is and how it can be applied to a performance is given in this book. "The potentials of spaces for performance are necessarily spaces where reality and illusion are both a simulation of the material world but also, and simultaneously real" (Oddey and White, 2006: 15) highlights how the space can be used for both the real and the illusionary in theatre and helped to tie my section about space into the analytical framework of phenomenology which our group also discussed. Sylvia Plath was born October 27, 1932, in Boston Massachusetts. She carried herself with a non–apologetic attitude and an obsession with death, so much so that she tried to take her own life on more than one occasion. Her first attempt happened during the summer of her junior year in college. After taking several sleeping pills, she crawled under her mother's house and was not found until three days later. After some time in a psychiatric hospital, she recovered fully and attained a Fulbright scholarship to Newnham College, Cambridge ("Sylvia Plath," Famousauthors.org). Her poetry was known as a confessional type, typically based on her innermost feelings and thoughts, with a twist for the dramatic and sensationalism ("Sylvia Plath," Biography.com). She also wrote one novel, The Bell Jar, a dark literary work said to parallel much of her own life. In a forward to The Bell Jar, written by Frances McCullough, McCullough states "Although her illness was never diagnosed, several researchers in the field have noted Plath's unerring description of schizophrenic perception..." Following his resignation as prime minister in 1955, Winston Churchill, the irrepressible wartime leader and Nobel Prize winner for literature, started to think about creating a lasting legacy. During his travels he had been enormously impressed with M.I.T. (Massachusetts Institute of Technology USA) and realised it was of national importance to be at forefront of scientific and technological developments. After discussions with Sir John Colville and Lord Cherwell he decided to create a thoroughly modern, science based, college at Cambridge. However, for the sake of a balanced community, Churchill insisted that 30% of students must be non–scientists. (One can only imagine the experiences Churchill endured to insist on this!). Since foundation that 30% has developed an outstanding reputation for excellence in the fields of social sciences, the arts and humanities. One of the first all–male college to admit females The college was founded in 1960 and received full college status in 1966. Churchill was in the first wave of all–male colleges to admit female members who entered in 1972. Women now make up one third of student numbers. A huge area of 42 acres, previously farmland, was purchased in north Cambridge, about a 12–minute walk away from the city centre (but only 5 minutes from the University Library). It was official. The next school year, I would enter the fifth grade –– again.   I knew I was gifted and capable of more, but after we moved from urban Oklahoma City to Tulsa before the fourth grade, my intelligence was meaningless. Suburban–school luxuries like computers, advanced math, and special ways to learn English flooded my brain. Homework was an afterthought.   Homework was not an afterthought to my fifth grade teacher, however. My grades may be bad, I grumbled angrily, but I'm NOT stupid.   Yet stupidly, I refused to ask for help.   Stupidly, I let the entire year pass me by.   The end of school came eventually, and I abandoned dreams of the sixth grade. Luckily, I was transferring to another elementary school, but this offered me little consolation. Only dummies have to repeat a grade.   The final bell rang, and students erupted in a joyful chorus of cheers as summer break began. I sang a melancholy dirge of self–pity. My bitterness increased as I waited for my mother to pick me up. She came at last and I jumped up, anxious to leave forever. Again, Mrs. Thomas thwarted my plans; she came outside to talk to my mother, undoubtedly about my ignominious fate. As they murmured, I viewed the co–conspirators with hostile eyes. I'm a victim, the final sigh of my fifth grade year whispered wearily.   Before I could escape, she had to heighten my torture with a few words of wisdom and the obligatory good–bye. I ignored her words as she stood before me. Her words had not averted this horrible moment. I prayed that she was done, but soon she had her arms around me. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pavlov was a well–known surgeon in Europe. In his early years he wanted to become a priest but discovered Charles Darwin whom changed his life. With his new calling in science, Pavlov began to work with animals especially dogs. He was fascinated by dogs and even gave them names. Johnson states that Pavlov felt the need to save the dogs from being slaughter for foods or hunted for personal reasons. In his most remarkable experiment, Pavlov used a bell to train the dogs to salivate. Naturally, dogs salivate when they eat to help them swallow food. This is known as the unconditioned response because it is happening automatically. A few trials later, the dog associates the ringing bell with food. This is known as the conditioned stimulus because the dog finally learned to associate the ring of the bell with food. Unconditioned stimulus happens when the dog salivates from eating. From now on every time the bell rings, the dog thought it was going to get food because that is what the dog has become used to. Immediately, the dog begins salivating by just hearing the ringing bell whether the dog saw any food or not. This is called a conditioned response, because the dog salivates by learning to associate the bell ringing with food. Pavlov simply studied reflexes, automatic behavior that is caused by a stimulus from the environment. According to Johnson, during the experiment Pavlov rarely used the bell. Later in his life, Pavlov was giving an album with all the photographs of his dogs by his students. Also in 1935, he was honored with a statue called a monument to a dog. On top of the statue there was a water fountain which symbolizes the dog

  • 33. Can You Ever Faced A Barrier Or An Obstacle? Have you ever faced a barrier or an obstacle? Has the barrier ever been something good? This rarely happens, but it occurred in my life. I had to make a life changing decision that could actually make my life better! In 2011, I skipped a grade and went from third grade to fourth grade after only three months. I was extremely scared and nervous. I did not know what to do. I wondered if my friends would be upset or angry at me for leaving them behind. I felt frightened at the thought of people being jealous of me and bullying me. I thought people would call me names or give me dirty looks if I skipped third grade. More importantly, I thought my brother or my cousins would be upset. I was plain scared! On the other hand, if I skipped a grade, I would be looked up to. People would at least know who I was. My family would be so proud of me. I had not even thought about the perks of being in fourth grade! There were so many more things I would learn, and at such a young age! There were pros and cons, but there was also a beginning, and perhaps I should start there. In around the end of October, I got a prescription for a medicine. I had to take the medicine for a week. The medication did not allow for me to go outside, so I had to give a note to my teacher, requesting to stay in the classroom during recess. My teacher's name was Mrs. McGovern and she let me stay inside the empty classroom for recess. I did not have anything to do, so I decided to take some scrap paper and write ... • 34. Essay about Richard as an Anti-hero Richard as an Anti–hero: To what extent does Richard embody this archetype? In William Shakespeare's play, Richard III, Richard is portrayed as physically deformed and psychologically affected. It is believed that his inner soul is a reflection of his physical deformities. Richard is considered as the protagonist of this play, however this is highly contradictive. A protagonist is the hero of the story who exhibits characteristics of courage and perseverance, and is admired for their brave deeds as well as their noble qualities. Richard however, contradicts the character portrayal of a hero and demonstrates himself as the exact opposite: an anti–hero. On the contrary to those writers who prefer to distinct their fiction from their nonfiction, she has never desired such a distinction: "From my early childhood, reading and writing seemed to me to be points on a circle. Greedy reading made me want to write, as if this were the only adequate response to the pleasure and power of books." A personal statement is also required, which if compelling enough will result in an invitation to be interviewed. This is the most crucial and scary part of the application process and is designed to investigate the student's suitability. There are myths surrounding the interviews. Contrary to widely held views, the admissions tutors state they do not set out to trick candidates with weird questions, but discuss issues around the chosen subject and personal statement. Students need to display flexible minds that are receptive to teaching; they have to be passionate and processes mental stamina. Eric Liddell was a Scottish runner and a faithful Christian. On the other hand, Harold Abraham was a British runner and a Jew who struggled to change other people's thought of Jews. Both of these men ran in the 1924 Olympics for different purposes. The movie "Chariots of Fire" showed how Eric Liddell and Harold Abrahams differed from one another. For instance, Jews do not eat pork because in the Old Testament the Israelites were commanded to abstain from it. Proof that Harold Abrahams followed this belief was seen in the movie when it showed that his girlfriend Sybil order pork in the restaurant and Harold felt first offended, and then amused by her mistake. Summary Of Margaret Atwood's The Victory Burlesk Madeleine Davies had once said that Margaret Atwood's "female bodies are inevitably coded bodies that tell the story of the subject's experience within a political economy that seeks to consume them, convert them into consumers in turn, shrink them, neutralize them, silence them, and contain them physically or metaphorically." (Davies 60). In Margaret Atwood's short story, The Victory Burlesk, Atwood is showing just that; Atwood is demonstrating how a woman is shrunken, silenced, and contained. This short story is bringing attention to how people feel shame for women in realization of reality, and how there is a focus on the 'Good Woman' and the 'Bad Woman', how 'Bad Woman' are represented. The Victory Burlesk is a story in which a woman is on stage and reveals herself as an elderly woman, putting on a show for one another to watch, a show in which people in the audience began to feel shame about. "I could feel shame washing through me." (Atwood 20–21), there is a woman on the stage, making herself vulnerable for everyone to see, and yet others are shameful in this situation. Why do others feel shame? Because there is a realization that this woman is real. That that is a actual body up there, one that no one wants to sexualize anymore due to her age and appearance. But also because they are not properly showing the representation of how women are shown on stage. Difference can make one feel uncomfortable, to the point they feel shame for another person.
