Upscale home renovator and property developer Nefrette Halim has a history of turning old buildings into modern residences. Her business, which operates by referral only, focuses on apartments and homes in Paris and Chicago. When performing her renovations, Nefrette Halim makes a point of using only materials appropriate to the epoch of the building, including reclaimed windows and wood. Recently, Ms. Halim took point on a more modern project in Illinois for her family. After a fire destroyed a historic home that she and her family had planned to use as the base for a clock museum, she worked with her family to approve a new, modern design for the structure.
