My Trip To Corpus Christi, Texas
Driving sixteen hours in a car with five other people just to go on vacation for about a week and a
half! That's what me and my family did when we decided to go to Corpus Christi, Texas for a couple
weeks. My entire family and even my sisters boyfriend came. At first we weren't sure what to expect
when we were first told we were driving all the way down to the southern border of Texas. Even
though it was long drive, the experience is one that none of us will ever forget in our lifetimes. I can
remember the night before we left. My parents had told me to make sure everything is packed;
toothbrush, swim suit, and anything I was going to need for the ten day trip. All of us had to pack
the car the night before because we were leaving at 3:00 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We only had a two hour drive to Corpus Christi and were ready to take a break from the Texas heat
and dip into the Gulf of Mexico. As we got into Corpus Christi, the scenery changed from a farming
and ranching community to more of a beach and spring break community. There were stores for
surfing, marinas, and fish stores all over. The hotel we stayed at was right on the beach and next to a
long pier that we all took a walk on the first night. The weather was hot and perfect for the
upcoming days at the beach. I was used to how the water and waves were because my family owns
land on the west side of Mexico right off the beach and we used to go there at least every month.
Corpus Christi was great, the people and all the activities that people did on the beach was constant
and interesting. There were always surfers and people riding on banana boats having a good time.
On the bad side, I was already wore out from all the traveling. I was not a big fan of seafood when I
was twelve so I never enjoyed the freshness of the seafood. The trip itself was great, but all the
hours in the car had started to take a toll on me and was almost ready to leave when we started on
our way

Nightingale, considered the founder of modern nursing, first began to establish nursing as a
profession during the Crimean War. Since then, nursing theorists have continued to expand on the
thought that patients are made up of more than just the symptoms they present with, Abraham
Maslow, Carl Jung, Dr. Larry Dossey and Dorothy Johnson, but none more so than Jean Watson.
She developed a theory of human caring that contained several core concepts, these concepts lay
forth the ground work for how we, as nurses, should care for a patient. These concepts included

time after World War II. It was during this time that physicians first began to establish the link
between disease and a person's psyche. This was the first time that there was scientific evidence that
psychological stress could contribute to many illnesses such as hypertension, ulcers, and heart
attacks. During the time after WWII, the scientific community first began to study the psychological
effects that the war had on returning soldiers. Despite the fact that over a million soldiers were
screened out due to psychological issues, there continued to be a staggering number of psychiatric
casualties. Because of this, psychiatrists were confronted with the realization that psychological
weakness had little to do with subsequent distress after combat. Because of this, the term combat
neurosis was changed to battle fatigue or combat exhaustion ("History of PTSD ", n.d.). Era III goes
a step beyond and proposes that our mind cannot only affect our well–being, but can affect the well–

How To Write An Essay About Six Flags
During holiday vacations, families enjoy traveling to theme parks at a low cost. People usually pick
their destination depending on many factors including price, friendly environment, events, rides, and
food. If the family does not like a certain thing about the theme park, they will choose something
else. Six Flags has been one the most famous theme parks that family and friends attend because it
meet everyone's expectations. One of their most famous parks is Six Flags Fiesta Texas located in
San Antonio, Texas. Six Flags has different types of tickets and options for purchasing those tickets.
For example, an adult ticket for one day can be purchased at the gate for $78 or online for $65, in
addition to daily parking for $15. Someone with a family of four might be interested in getting a
membership or season pass in order to meet everyone's plans while at the park. Season passes tend
to be more expensive, at $91 each, but they do include unlimited visits, parking, and many
additional benefits. Six ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Parents can be free from worrying if there kids are safe because there are safety procedures
everywhere. Many of the rides on site have carefully thought out procedures making sure that every
rider is safe. The problem of being safe with all rides is that if a ride is considered "broken" they will
shut it down. Many riders will be frustrated and leave because lines tend to be long. If a child is
missing, the child can go directly with a worker and inform them they are lost. The parents can
either ask a worker about their missing child or they can go to the Lost Kids in hospitality. Also,
there are several restrictions of items brought into the park. Before entering, everyone is checked.
People pass through metal detecting machines while their bags are checked by a worker. As a former

Nba Free Agency Essay
NBA free agency is like Christmas shopping for teams' general managers and owners. The NBA is a
player's league, catered to them like never before. League revenue is higher than ever – more than
100 NBA players made at least $10 million for the 2016–17 season – many players are overpaid for
their actual worth and wield the power of choosing where to go in the new generation of the league.
Ultimately, NBA free agency is bizarre. Billions of dollars (yes billions with a 'B') are being doled
out during the signing period, which is a chance for teams to go after the best available players on
their free agency board and pull out all the stops to lure them away from their previous team. Below

whatever reason, Chris Paul and Blake Griffin just can't stay healthy and on the court together. Paul,
32 years old, will be entering his 13th season in the NBA. The furthest he has been in the playoffs is
the Western Conference Semis, which came three seasons ago with Los Angeles and back in 2008
with the New Orleans Hornets. The past two seasons, the Clippers have been ousted in the opening
round, mostly due to not having their stars on the floor. CP3's prime years are nearing an end, which
means all his options must be considered if he wants to compete for a championship. The San
Antonio Spurs can be a potential destination, where he would play alongside Kawhi Leonard and
LaMarcus Aldridge. Tony Parker is getting older and Manu Ginobili is nearing retirement. It's time
for a backcourt upgrade in Texas. Los Angeles, however, can offer more years and money, and Paul
feels at home in L.A. He may want to make things work with Doc Rivers, DeAndre Jordan and
Griffin – that's if he stays. Prediction: Staying with the Clippers 4. Blake Griffin | Power forward |

San Antonio River Essay
River defined in the Oxford English Dictionary is "a large natural stream of water flowing in a
channel to the sea, a lake, or another such stream. A large quantity of a flowing substance." The river
rises generally from a mountain or lake in a tableland. At first several very narrow streams of water
join together and form one larger stream. At last the river falls into a sea, lake or another river. The
mouth of the river becomes very wide. A river generally receives its water by the melting of snow
on mountains. Sometimes it is fed by rain. The usefulness of rivers is of great use to us. One very
important river to the people of San Antonio is The San Antonio River. The San Antonio River is

Essay On Mission Concepcion
After I learned that there was a fresco of a sun, with a mustache inside a Spaniard Mission in Texas,
just a couple hours away from me my interest was piqued. That fact that it is something unique for
its time period was what helped me decide to focus and do my research paper on Mission
Concepcion. Therefore, over spring break, I decided to travel down to San Antonio to visit and see
the world wide known mustached sun for myself. When I went to visit I found Mission Concepcion
was, not so conveniently, in the middle of a residential area. Due to the decision to allow the
construction of houses around the mission, one could easily get confused because of the
surroundings, and try to turn around when looking for it. The way over to the mission ... Show more

The mission after gaining government approval, like most of the others around it, was developed by
Franciscans, but was constantly mobilized until it made it to its present location in 1731. Due to the
lack of Spaniards to colonize the new six missions that served as a barrier, many Dominican, and
Franciscan missionaries looking for spiritual satisfaction in the form of converts were allowed to
develop the standing missions into towns, with the understanding that they would live as Spanish
citizens. The mission was the organized to have the church standing in the center of the mission, and
had workshops were the Indians were taught artisan skills, as well as storage buildings. On the
mission lands you could expect to find cubicles in the convent that surrounded the church, housing
units along the perimeter wall for the Indians; as well orchards, crop fields, and livestock that would
help support the growing Franciscan village. The structure of Mission Concepcion took around 15
years to be completed, and it is currently considered to be the oldest unrestored stone structure in
America, as well as within the national park, mostly because of its base being built directly in the

My Vacation to Costa Rica Essay
Costa Rica is a very beautiful and unique place. It was my first time going there and I loved it! It
was much different than the United States in ways I didn't mind or even enjoyed. We saw many
things and went many places while we were down there. I am ready to go back again already and do
new, exciting things. However, we did a lot while we were down there. Our first stop was San Jose.
We arrived late at night, so after we checked into the Don Carlos and found our rooms, a group of us
went to go find food. We ended up eating at a pretty fancy restaurant about a block away from the
hotel. It was pretty expensive and it was late at night so we got a pizza to go, but this would be
nothing like the other things we would eat. The next day we ... Show more content on

hydroelectricity with a waterwheel in the back. They were all also hand painted and hand carved
pieces. It was very beautiful. We finally got to Turriabla that night. The next day we went to the
college and botanical gardens of CATIE. In the botanical gardens we got to try all of the different
fruits grown in Costa Rica. They are all very good and different tasting. Even the mangos and
pineapples taste so much better there. Now that we are back I dislike the ones here. One example of
something we tried there was called the miracle fruit. It made anything you ate afterwards that was
sour taste sweet and it actually worked. We toured the coffee plantation there as well as the college
campus and had more traditional Costa Rican food in the cafeteria there. Finally, in Turriabla we
went to a fruit market and an ice cream shop and practiced our Spanish. We then prepared for our
third stop. San Gerardo De Dota was the next destination of the trip as well as my second favorite.
On the way there, we stopped to look at one of their churches. It was beautiful but there was a
service going on so we didn't want to look around too much and interrupt. We got Costa Rican snow
cones which are different than ours but still very good. We stopped for more Costa Rican traditional
food an learned of a volcano eruption in

Effects Of Alcohol On The City And State Of San Antonio Texas

parents accept responsibility for the safety of minors under 18 when the minor is on their property or

minor possesses or consumes the alcoholic beverage. It is against the law to make alcohol available

The Coastal Plains Of Texas
The Coastal Plains of Texas is a large area that extends from the Atlantic Ocean to beyond the Rio
Grande. This region can be divided into 5 distinct areas.
PINE BELT:
It extends 75 to 125 miles into Texas from the east and from north to south from the Red River to
about 25 miles of the Gulf Coast. The Pine Belt is practically the source of all Texas' timber
production. Lumber is the principle industry. The climate is good for a variety of fruits and
vegetables. A great oil field discovered in 1931 contributed to the economic growth of the area.
BLACKLAND BELT:
This area stretches from the Rio Grande to the Red River. This area runs through the DFW
metropolitan area. This area is also the most populated with the strongest diversified manufacturing
industry of the state.
COASTAL PRAIRIES:
This area extends along the Gulf of Mexico, from the Sabine River to the lower Rio Grande Valley.
Cattle ranching is the largest and strongest agriculture industry. Along with cattle ranching, rice is
also a very strong crop in the agriculture industry. More principle crops include cotton, grains,
vegetables, and citrus fruits.
LOWER RIO GRANDE VALLEY:
This low valley is also known as "The Valley." It has the greatest citrus and winter vegetables in
Texas due to the lack of freezing weather. It is ranked very high among the nation's fruit and truck–
farming regions.
RIO GRANDE PLAIN:
This massive plain lies south of San Antonio between the Rio Grande and the Gulf Coast. The

rise out of the recession because of the land of oil industry that has hit its highest point since when I

demand of employment for the oil industry. The jobs are anywhere from secretary employment to a

soybeans, cattle, sugarcane, poultry and eggs, dairy products, and rice. The seafood industry is its
biggest producer of crawfish in the world, supplying approximately 90% and directly supports an

The Red Tent (All You Need to

fiction novel, The Red Tent, is a devout Jewish–American living in Newtonville, Massachusetts with
her husband and daughter, Emilia. She has written five books about contemporary Jewish life, The
Red Tent being her first novel. Diamant may have been influenced by the recent resurgence of
creating Midrashim, or stories that attempt to explain the Torah by examining its subtexts. Modern
women have taken a keen interest in this practice, hoping to expand on the minute biblical mentions

The only physical description of Dinah is quite vague: "‘…the dark eyed girl with the
curly hair and the fine hands…’" (Diamant 189). She was a mid–eastern girl, but little
else is said of her appearance. Dinah’s character is essential to the novel, as it is a chronicle
of her life. She is the heart and soul of the story. Through her the reader experiences one of the
oldest stories of all time, Genesis, through the eyes of someone who was painfully obscure for
thousands of years. A simple description of her own name best describes Dinah’s character:
"Maybe you heard it in the music of my name: the first vowel high and clear, as when a mother calls
to her child at dusk; the second sound soft, for whispering secrets on pillows" (Diamant 1). Even so
early in the novel, before the actual story begins, Diamant establishes a maternal element in Dinah.
"Whispering secrets" proves to be an important element in Dinah’s life, as the secrets of
women are passed from mother to daughter in a never–ending cycle of life and love. In concordance
with the importance placed on mothers in The Red Tent, Dinah’s most prominent mother
figures, Leah and Rachel, are instrumental to the plot. When the story begins (i.e. when Jacob
arrives), the sisters are fourteen and twelve. They are followed to their deaths, which, although
unsaid, would be thought to be in

The Memories Of San Antonio
About three days by car, or three hours by plane, from my hometown lays another place that I like to
call home. This is a place where my parents grew up in and a part of me did as well. San Antonio is
a very small village located in Jalisco, Mexico. This is a place where no more than 200 people live,
and where everybody knows each other. I have a lot of family in this village and have many
memories with each and every one of them. The earliest memory that I can recall from this place
takes place in the early 2000s, and is also the first memory I have of my grandparents.
San Antonio is located in the Southern part of Mexico and is a rural little village. In this village,
most of the houses are located in the mountains and at times can be mistaken for abandoned. One of
the homes higher up the mountain belongs to my grandparents. This is the house where my mother
grew up in before moving to the United States, along with my father who's house is a very short
walk away. My mom grew up in this house with 9 other siblings and although it's a pretty big house,
I can only assume it was very crowded.
One of the reasons I love to visit this place is because it is so isolated. There is no internet here and
the nearest Wi–Fi spot is about an hour away. The nearest stores and markets are a bit closer at about
30 minutes away. Walking through this small village always feels like an adventure and there is
always more to explore because there is a mountain range at the edge of the town.

How Did The Great Depression Affect The Economy
The Great Depression is given such a bad reputation, and deservedly so. The Great Depression was
one of the lowest, if not, the lowest point in the history of the United States. Millions of people were
out of jobs and others were homeless too. The stock market was almost pointless, as the market was
saturated. Real production output was unbelievably low. Nothing about any of those mentioned
above have a positive outcome. These aforementioned reasons are some of the effects of the Great
Depression. This essay will be examining the economic and political impact that the Great
Depression had on the United States. Economically, the essay will focus on unemployment and low

There was lots of things wrong with what was going on before the depression and during the
depression, but because of FDR and a little bit of luck, the United States rebuilt its economy.
Though, in 2008, the US almost ran into a similar problem with the housing bubble. There were
things that happened during the Great Depression that the US learned from to prevent a similar
situation from happening, though in 2008, it was Ben Bernanke, a Great Depression scholar who
helped correct the problem that time around (Quinn). So even though the Great Depression was a
low point in the United States' history its economic and political impact was huge. Economically,
the Great Depression led changes in unemployment and wages, legislation and eventually how the
US got out of the depression. Politically, the United States was on the fence about capitalism
because of the depression, leading to FDR's election. The impact that was had politically because of
that was his creation of the New Deal and his expansionary fiscal policy to correct the market. So
while the Great Depression was a painful time, it had a lot of impact on the United States as a

The Legacy Of Douglass Macarthur
Douglass MacArthur was born in 1880 at the Little Rock Barracks in Arkansas to his father Arthur
MacArthur and his Mother Mary Pinkney Hardy MacArthur. His father Arthur MacArthur was a
United States Army captain. Being born in a Barracks, Douglas MacArthur said that "it was here I
learned to ride and shoot even before I could read or write–indeed, almost before I could walk or
talk". Being raised there was the first of many times Douglas MacArthur would ride and shoot a
gun. In the year 1893, his family moved to San Antonio and at 13 years old, Douglas MacArthur
attended West Texas military academy and there "he began to show academic promise" After he
graduated from the Military Academy, MacArthur enrolled at West Point and in the year 1903
MacArthur graduated from West Point at the top of his class. As soon as he graduated from West
Point, Douglass became a Junior Officer. Soon after, World War I began.
While World War I was happening, Douglas was in Washington DC and while there he "received a
promotion to Major on December 11, 1915" When the war began, MacArthur was promoted to
Major. When the United States entered the war and then declared war on Germany, a division called
the 42nd division was created and with that creation, MacArthur was put in control and was
promoted to colonel. This 42nd division so called rainbow division was a "National guard unit

The Effects of Grazing and Trampling Behaviors of Large–Sized Livestock on the Formation and
Weathering Patterns of Soils
Introduction
Walter Coppinger, a Professor of Geosciences at Trinity College in San Antonio and long–time
observer of Montana geology, was the first person to describe to me the many problems of the
western rangelands that have developed out of the over–grazing of cattle. From a hilltop among the
upland slopes of Whitehall, Montana, he pointed out a few patches of bare earth on the horizon and
some gullying out of trails across the rangelands in the distance. Rangelands are areas of land on
which livestock are left to roam and graze. Traditionally the great plains and rolling hills of the
Western States have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many different animal species that graze the rangelands of the world: bison in the
grasslands of the Western United States, mountain goats in the Rocky Mountains, and herds of
Caribou in Northwest Canada (Butler, 1995). In many cases, the actual effects that different animals
have depends greatly on biological factors characteristic of their particular species, such as how
large their populations tend to be, their average weight and how they distribute their weight when
they walk or climb, feeding patterns, migration patterns, and other differences that depart too far
from the focus of this essay to be considered in any great detail. For the purposes of this paper,
unless otherwise specified, I will be considering the effects of cows, bison, and other "cattle–like"
livestock animals that tend to have relatively similar physical characteristics.
The degree to which an area has been grazed is often loosely categorized as an area of "light,"
"moderate," or "heavy" grazing, with "light" indicating rangelands with the greatest surface area and
fewest animals and "heavy" indicating smaller areas for larger populations. Again, these general
terms may depend on the particular species being considered.
Trampling and grazing on one topography type will not necessarily have the same effect as it will
have on another. Most rangelands are found on uplands (lower, flatter land is more often

Woman Hollering Creek Myth Analysis
Throughout history, myth has taught lessons, explained phenomena, and perpetuated common
knowledge and thought. Myth is threaded into history all over the world, and along the border of the
United States and Mexico is no different. In "Woman Hollering Creek," Sandra Cisneros reinscribes
myths that have perpetuated the patriarchy, breaking down stereotypes and the narratives that we
have come to associate with them. This essay will explore the roles of La Llorona and La Malinche
in "Woman Hollering Creek" and "Never Marry A Mexican." These myths are inscribed within
Mexican American women and Cisneros combats these archetypes by retelling them. The
reinscription of these myths by Sandra Cisneros gives up hope that there is more than just the fate of
the mourning mother, the colonized victim, and the virgin. The first myth is that of La Llorona. La
Llorona is one of the most prevalent myths in Latinx culture. Although there are several retellings of
the myth, it is said that after finding out about her husband's infidelity La Llorona drowned their
children and spends her days stuck in between the spirit world and this world, grieving their loss and
searching for children to replace her own. This myth is often told by Mexican parents to keep their

Cortés. The legend has multiple variations as well. As Cortes's translator, La Malinche was raped
and forced to bear his child, Martín, who would become the first Mexican, as half indigenous and
half Spanish. She is oftentimes blamed for the fall of the indigenous world in Mexico, because she
enabled Cortés and his soldiers by translating for them, although she did not have a

Behavioural Theories From San Antonio, take Interstate Ten west and you will find it. It's a straight
shot and not too far of a drive. Forty–five minutes of weaving through the Texas Hill Country and
you will run smack–dab into Comfort. Blink and you'll miss it. Nestled between hills, pastures, and
the nooks of the Guadalupe River, Comfort may seem to fit the part of typical "small town Texas."
Highlights include antiques, big high school football games, gossip, numerous generations of the

In turn, Comfort's historical background stays well conserved and appreciated. Both non–native and
natives actively take part in the preservation of Comfort's German heritage, including buildings,
monuments, and customs. One of the town's more preserved areas is High Street or Main Street,
sometimes humorously deemed "downtown." High Street is home to Comfort's historical district.
The first original buildings of the settlement line the street, including Ingeinhut's General Store, the
Comfort Common (the town's first hotel,) and the opera house. Other points of interest include the
old post office, the Comfort Public Library, and the soda shop. Stained and cracked with age, these
large limestone buildings display obvious German architecture reminiscent of the early the late
1800s. The most famous spot on High Street, though, and the center of my research, is somewhat of
a hole–in–the–wall. Covered in such publications as Texas Monthly and Southern Living, Gael's
Comfort Barber Shop, established in 1906, seems to be the center of High Street popularity. The
owner, Gael Montana, is the third owner of the barber shop in almost one hundred years of
operation. She, along with friend and co–worker Jim Moore, give people hair cuts, gossip, shaves,

The State Of Texas Gained Its Independence
The state of Texas gained its independence on December 29, 1845 after six and a half enduring
months of ceaseless brawls. The colonization of Texas first began with Stephen F. Austin, whom is
also recognized as the Father of Texas. Stephen began the uprising for self–reliance against the
Army of Mexico, led by Antonio López de Santa Anna, when he proposed opening up Texas to a
swamp of immigrants. This action of his branched off throughout the years into countless battles for
the Lonestar state to become individualistic. The first battle of the Revolution was the Battle of
Gonzales, ending with only two casualties and the victory of the Texas soldiers. The Alamo is one of
the most memorable engagements within this period of time, where the legendary cry, ''Remember
the Alamo!'' originated from. The Alamo still stands tall today and is visited by many each year, and
represents the Texan soldier's heroic opposition to injustice versus the government of Mexico. The
Battle of San Jacinto was the shortest and final confrontation of the Texas Revolution. This resulted
in a Texan victory, and an overall win for the Texian soldiers as they wash away Mexico with their
statement of independence. The Texas Revolution was a conflict in the nineteenth century between
the people of Texas and Mexican soldiers. This revolution led the the independence of the Lone Star
state, and opened floodgates to numerous significant battles along the way. This rebellion included
various engagements,

The Texas Revolution, why is it so important? Why is there so many arguments over it? Truth is this
historical subject is very controversial and it can be seen through the work of many authors. In this
case I have decided to research 4 authors and their dedicated work on the history of the Texas
Revolution. From the historical documents of Sam Houston to retracing his steps through
photographic representation. These authors put in a lot of time and dedication, a lot of research and
thought into their research and even though they had different opinions and ideology on the Texas
Revolution, one thing they do share, is the passion and love for Texas. So what are some key points

After Texas joined the United States in 1846, Houston served as a U.S. Senator until 1860. If
Houston had his eye on the White House, he was no doubt compromised by his personal
transgressions with women and alcohol. In addition, his views on slavery put him in conflict with
the country 's southern states. Although he was a slave owner himself, Houston was opposed to the
expansion of slavery in the new territories. Following the outbreak of the Civil War, Houston, who
'd been elected governor of Texas, refused to pledge his allegiance to the Confederate States of
America. An infuriated Texas legislature discharged him of his duties. Houston, who had married for
a third time in 1840, to Margaret Lea, with whom he had eight children, retired from politics. He
died at his home in Huntsville, Texas, on July 26, 1863. Now the reason why I decided to give a
small biography on Sam Houston was because of Sue Flanagan. Sue Flanagan, is the former director
of the Sam Houston Memorial Museum at Sam Houston State University. Why is she important,
well, she wrote and illustrated a book about Sam Houston and the Texas revolution. Retracing his

The museum of "Asistencia San Antonio de Pala" was very interesting due to the rich history and
historical artifacts it contains. What I learned was not so much about the museum itself but about an
individual named Ambrosio Ortega. Although unnoticed by the public, he was a great and elevating
man, known to the southern California Indians. Ortega was a tribal man from the Ka–wee–as tribe.
Ortega experiences the sad tragedy of his country being taken away from them by a white man

bare faced, shameless, cold–blooded robbery under the law of the "manifest destiny". Ortega was

One great artifact that is a must see is the bell tower. It is the only freestanding one of its kind in the
Alta California mission chain. It draws its inspiration from an older bell tower at Ciudad Juarez,

cemetery. There is buried the remains of hundreds of Native American converts to Catholicism as
well as other early California pioneers. When walking through the cemetery I noticed most of the
graves were old wooden crosses and very few headstones were erected. While walking I began to
realize I was walking where hundreds if not thousands of Indians were killed, tortured, raped and
abused. My thought process after this was very humble. I believe it is something worthwhile to
remember why the Mission was there in the first place which was to conquer and keep conquering

Wow! That's so cool. How many are there? The date is July 14 and we started our day about 8:30
am. We had plans to go to zoo at 11. My whole family was going.
First we went to go eat breakfast. Then we went back to the hotel to get ready. Now we're ready to
head off to the San Antonio Zoo. At first it wasn't that cool. There were basic zoo animals then there
were some cool ones like Caribbean Flamingos, bears and their snake collection was amazing. The
first animals my sister and I wanted to see was the monkeys. The monkeys would swing from the
trees and the vines. They were amazing. The monkeys are just like hairy humans. They would watch
us as we watched them. The baby monkeys were so cute trying to keep up with the rest of the
monkeys. The gorillas were so big. They just sat around acting like they didn't even notice anybody
was looking at them. The chimpanzees are really smart. They knew when the zookeepers were about
to come feed them and would just sit and stare at the entrance waiting. Next, we went to the African
Life exhibit. They had African wild dogs and dwarf mongoose. The dwarf mongooses are so cute.
They had little ears and small paws with little nails. We stayed there forever it felt like. My sister
wanted to take one home but they wouldn't let her. Next was the lions they were so amazing. We
watched the guy feed them and it was so cool how they would throw the meat and the lions would

Persuasive Essay
Going to a place where poverty reigns supreme really makes you appreciate what you have. In past
years the city of Detroit has taken on a less than admirable reputation. Crime and poverty are often
associated with the former car capital of the Midwest. Most people wouldn't want to step foot in the
city, afraid of what they might experience. But if I had the chance to go back, I would take it in a
heartbeat. Detroit is living proof that you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. In past years, the
ELCA youth gathering has been held in New Orleans and San Antonio. But in 2015, it was in
Detroit. At first, I had absolutely no interest in going. The way our pastor described it made it sound
like a week–long church service– totally boring! We were told that we would do different
community service projects and go to a worship type thing every night at Ford Field. I dreaded
having to waste a week of my summer doing boring community service. Thankfully, my mom
wouldn't let me back out of the trip. We rode into Detroit on a charter bus with different churches in
the area. Armed with grocery bags full of snacks and water bottles, pillows, blankets, and our
luggage, we began our journey to a city we had heard only bad things about. Throughout the almost
five hour drive, the adults on the bus tried to keep us entertained with movies and license plate
bingo. Nevertheless, we complained from hour two until we reached our hotels. Now I will admit
that some places in Detroit are a little sketchy. We had assumed that our hotel would be in the nicer
part of the city. Oh boy were we wrong. We pulled up to a dingy looking one story building that said
"Marriot Business" on the sign out front. We were greeted inside by people from the gathering. They
gave us our wristbands and bus bands and quickly told us what to expect in the week to come. Also,
much to our horror, they told us where to go if there was a terror threat at the hotel. We awoke the
next morning eager to do some sight–seeing before the official start of the gathering that night. We
took the bus into downtown Detroit and, just like the tourist you seeing in the movies, we
unashamedly took pictures of anything mildly interesting or different. We were left off the

Three Cities that I've Lived
As a child, I grew up in Apaseo El Alto in the state of Guanajuato in Mexico. My parents are firm
believers Mexico was not the proper place to raise a family. When my father was approved for
permanent residency in the United States, we moved to Comfort, Texas. After we were settled and
comfortable with the change of culture and language, we relocated to San Antonio, Texas. I found
each city to be unique and interesting, but they had a huge difference in economy, culture, weather

Apaseo El Alto, like most cities in Mexico, don't have a stable economy. Most of its citizens average
a very low household income. Most woman in the city are stay at home mothers, leaving a great
responsibility to the men as the only ones with the duty to provide for their families The city is a
mixture of indigenous and modern inhabitants. Some of the indigenous homes are still made from
rocks and mud. The majority of the families have to breed livestock, grow crops, and produce dairy
products. Apaseo is highly rich in culture. This city as been active for many decades, and carries a
numerous amount of traditions. One of the most popular celebrations is the famous Day of the Dead.
Day of the Death is celebrated by families gathering in graveyards or local building to honor their
relatives who have passed away. They clean, dance and sing at the relative's graveyard. Many even

After Bolivar had agreed happily, The meeting was scheduled, and the two of them had failed to

Religion plays a different role in southern culture than it does in other parts of the nation. In "the

higher attendance in religious activities and more religion affiliated establishments per square mile.
The purpose of this paper is to understand how religion plays a role in the life of women in the south

explore why religious ties in the south are stronger than those of the rest of the nation. The research

One Sunday during the regular service Janet remembers that the preacher had an "alter calling",
which was a special event. The preacher requested that anyone who wanted to be baptized to please
come to the altar. Janet said she could feel God asking her to step forward and become baptized,
however, she did not step up because her parents did not nod at her that it was all right for her to go

opportunity to accept her calling from God.
Janet felt betrayed by her parents because they had denied her the chance to embrace her religion.
These feelings of betrayal lead her to pull away from her parents and her religion. As she progressed
through high school, Janet's life revolved less and less around her religion and more and more
around her own life. She no longer attended church every Sunday and the very same parents who
would not let her embrace her religion began making her feel guilty for not attending services. She

many vampire movies over the years, long before they became the popular pop–culture genre they
have become due to the success of The Twilight Saga films. One movie I have enjoyed viewing

His cinematography "creates an exceptionally inviting, varied look for this nocturnal story, and
special visual effects are smoothly integrated into the action. The makeup that adds pale eyes,
ghostly pallor and tiny blue veins to the principals' faces manages to create a frisson of danger
without marring the actors' attractiveness" (Maslin). Rousselot used dark–lensing, a way to attain
low key shots and thus created a huge contrast to the sets and costumes (Maslin). This made the
characters seem as though they were the only important things in the otherwise dark and gloomy
shots.
Mise–en–scene
The mise–en–scene of Interview with the Vampire is relatively theatrical in nature. Long shots are
used for much of the movie and the intense close–up shots are retained for the extremely moving
victimization scenes where the camera closes in on the eyes of the vampire attacking its victim and
what the vampire is feeling thru its eyes (Rice). Also because of the darkness of most of the settings
within the movie and the lushness of the immediate sets and costuming one gets the feeling of the
importance of the characters and where they are at. The character proxemics and intimate distance
of the shot when Claudia curls up with Louis in his coffin, shows the feelings and morality that
Louis is fighting so hard to hang onto in his immortality and the loss of the innocence Claudia has
accepted.

Anna. The Goliad Massacre hardened attitudes toward Santa Anna throughout the United States and
inflamed and unified the Texas resistance.By the time the colonel ordered the retreat, it was too
late. The finely bred, West Point–trained officer lingered for a while as a 1,400–man army led by
Santa Anna's chief lieutenant, General Jose de Urrea, closed in on Goliad. The battle of the goliad
massacre was in Presidio La Bahía, Goliad.Sam Houston ordered James Frannin to evacuate his 400
soldiers from Goliad and retreat to Victoria , a town 30 miles to the east behind the natural defense
of the Guadalupe River.Santa Anna's ruthless treatment of the captured soldiers had the opposite
effect than what he intended. When one of their carts fell into the San Antonio River, the colonel told
his men to halt and retrieve it.The Alamo!" His men thundered a reply with an addendum:
"Remember the Alamo! Instead of taking cover in the nearby woods, Fannin ordered his men to
form a square on an open prairie near Coleto Creek.Whether indecisive, stubborn or loyal to the
rebels away on missions whom he did not want to abandon, Fannin remained in Goliad until the
morning of March 19. The Alamo! Instead, the Mexican commanding officer shot Fannin in the
face, burned his body with the others and kept the timepiece as a war prize.Fannin, had to get there
fast for his safety as the orders he received on March 14, 1836."This show of generosity after a hotly
contested engagement is worthy of the highest commendation," Urrea wrote to Santa Anna, "and I
can do no less than to commend it to your Excellency."Santa Anna, however, had no desire for such
mercy. The death toll would have been even higher if not for a Mexican woman known as the "Angel
of Goliad" who convinced a Mexican colonel to spare the lives of approximately 20 doctors,
orderlies and interpreters.Less than a month later, as Houston prepared his men for the decisive
Battle of San Jacinto that would earn Texas its

Chapter 8 On The Border By Char Miller
Written Report 7 In Chapter 8 of On the Border, by Char Miller, he discusses the significance of the
Alamo Quarry in San Antonio, Texas. He conveys to the reader that the Alamo Quarry Markey that
most San Antonioans know today is not what it was originated to be. The Alamo Quarry was
originally the Alamo Cement Company in 1908. It was the hub for the striving cement industry for
San Antonio. After the material at its original site was exhausted, the plant was moved to a place that
came to be known as Cementville. Soon after the Alamo Cement Company was abandoned–The
City of San Antonio saw an opportunity to expand their tourism while preserving the rich and deep
history of the Alamo Cement Company. Their preservation was an attempt

Personal Narrative: My Road Trip To Texas
About a month ago I graduate at Jensen Gymnasium Västerås in Sweden. I had a thought of a road
trip in the U.S, so I talked to my friend Elisabeth, who lives in Texas. I asked her if she wanted to go
on a road trip with me and she said yes. So, I flew to Texas and before that I hired a car which I
picked up at the airport. I got the car and I drived to Elisabeth. When I arrived we talked about my
flight trip and small bored stuff. After that we got some food and went to bed because it was late in
the night. Texas is the second largest state in the U.S with around 27 million residents since 2015.
The name of the capital is Austin and the biggest state in Texas is Houston. The population in Texas

Essay on The Music of Puerto Rico
Music, in the history of Puerto Rico, has played a role of great significance as a means of cultural
expression. The five centuries of musical activity shows that Puerto Ricans have created, developed
and promoted a variety of genres ranging from folk music, concert music and new genres. The
Puerto Rican music and native musicians have shaped and enriched the identity of the Puerto Rican
people and their roots.
Puerto Rican music was the ultimate expression of the "Areito" (indigenous artistic traditions)
combined in a unitary fashion, oral narrative, dance and music. By the end of the fifteenth century,
the Taino Indians had already developed musical instruments used in their ceremonies, religious
rituals and daily life. Some of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Slaves who arrived on our shores were characterized by a strong attachment to their traditions and
ancestral beliefs, intimately linked to their dances and music. Among the African groups that
influence ethnic and cultural formation of the island are the Ashanti and Fante of Ghana, Carabalis
southern shore of the Niger River, the Congos and Equatorial Africa from the late eighteenth century
until the middle nineteenth century and the Yoruba of West Africa.
Africans cultivated their traditions and dances in several coastal towns and municipalities that are
currently Loiza, Guayama, Ponce, Cataño. The current African music has been preserved in the
instruments that are still heard in the characteristic method of executing them, and in some songs,
rhythms and dances that have been preserved by oral tradition. Around the eighteenth century, one
of the factors that caused considerable impact on the formation of the Island Music, was the arrival
of a group of musicians with a Spanish military regiment in 1765. The activity of these bands, which
included public concerts and the music of nature based, religious and social activities, along with
traditional festivals at the center of town squares, prosecutes a favorable environment for musical
development.
By the end of the eighteenth century, popular music evolved by converging sectors of the church,
community, urban and rural society emerging beyond the capital, San Juan. During the eighteenth

My Trip To Corpus Christi, Texas

  • 1. My Trip To Corpus Christi, Texas Driving sixteen hours in a car with five other people just to go on vacation for about a week and a half! That's what me and my family did when we decided to go to Corpus Christi, Texas for a couple weeks. My entire family and even my sisters boyfriend came. At first we weren't sure what to expect when we were first told we were driving all the way down to the southern border of Texas. Even though it was long drive, the experience is one that none of us will ever forget in our lifetimes. I can remember the night before we left. My parents had told me to make sure everything is packed; toothbrush, swim suit, and anything I was going to need for the ten day trip. All of us had to pack the car the night before because we were leaving at 3:00 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We only had a two hour drive to Corpus Christi and were ready to take a break from the Texas heat and dip into the Gulf of Mexico. As we got into Corpus Christi, the scenery changed from a farming and ranching community to more of a beach and spring break community. There were stores for surfing, marinas, and fish stores all over. The hotel we stayed at was right on the beach and next to a long pier that we all took a walk on the first night. The weather was hot and perfect for the upcoming days at the beach. I was used to how the water and waves were because my family owns land on the west side of Mexico right off the beach and we used to go there at least every month. Corpus Christi was great, the people and all the activities that people did on the beach was constant and interesting. There were always surfers and people riding on banana boats having a good time. On the bad side, I was already wore out from all the traveling. I was not a big fan of seafood when I was twelve so I never enjoyed the freshness of the seafood. The trip itself was great, but all the hours in the car had started to take a toll on me and was almost ready to leave when we started on our way ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lewis Western Governors University Florence Nightingale, considered the founder of modern nursing, first began to establish nursing as a profession during the Crimean War. Since then, nursing theorists have continued to expand on the thought that patients are made up of more than just the symptoms they present with, Abraham Maslow, Carl Jung, Dr. Larry Dossey and Dorothy Johnson, but none more so than Jean Watson. She developed a theory of human caring that contained several core concepts, these concepts lay forth the ground work for how we, as nurses, should care for a patient. A person's mind was considered nothing beyond the brain. Era II began to evolve during the time after World War II. It was during this time that physicians first began to establish the link between disease and a person's psyche. This was the first time that there was scientific evidence that psychological stress could contribute to many illnesses such as hypertension, ulcers, and heart attacks. During the time after WWII, the scientific community first began to study the psychological effects that the war had on returning soldiers. Despite the fact that over a million soldiers were screened out due to psychological issues, there continued to be a staggering number of psychiatric casualties. Because of this, psychiatrists were confronted with the realization that psychological weakness had little to do with subsequent distress after combat. Because of this, the term combat neurosis was changed to battle fatigue or combat exhaustion ("History of PTSD ", n.d.). Era III goes a step beyond and proposes that our mind cannot only affect our well–being, but can affect the well– being of another person, even from a distance. People usually pick their destination depending on many factors including price, friendly environment, events, rides, and food. If the family does not like a certain thing about the theme park, they will choose something else. Six Flags has been one the most famous theme parks that family and friends attend because it meet everyone's expectations. One of their most famous parks is Six Flags Fiesta Texas located in San Antonio, Texas. Six Flags has different types of tickets and options for purchasing those tickets. League revenue is higher than ever – more than 100 NBA players made at least $10 million for the 2016–17 season – many players are overpaid for their actual worth and wield the power of choosing where to go in the new generation of the league. Ultimately, NBA free agency is bizarre. Billions of dollars (yes billions with a 'B') are being doled out during the signing period, which is a chance for teams to go after the best available players on their free agency board and pull out all the stops to lure them away from their previous team. For whatever reason, Chris Paul and Blake Griffin just can't stay healthy and on the court together. Paul, 32 years old, will be entering his 13th season in the NBA. The furthest he has been in the playoffs is the Western Conference Semis, which came three seasons ago with Los Angeles and back in 2008 with the New Orleans Hornets. The past two seasons, the Clippers have been ousted in the opening round, mostly due to not having their stars on the floor. CP3's prime years are nearing an end, which means all his options must be considered if he wants to compete for a championship. The San Antonio Spurs can be a potential destination, where he would play alongside Kawhi Leonard and LaMarcus Aldridge. Tony Parker is getting older and Manu Ginobili is nearing retirement. It's time for a backcourt upgrade in Texas. Los Angeles, however, can offer more years and money, and Paul feels at home in L.A. That fact that it is something unique for its time period was what helped me decide to focus and do my research paper on Mission Concepcion. Therefore, over spring break, I decided to travel down to San Antonio to visit and see the world wide known mustached sun for myself. When I went to visit I found Mission Concepcion was, not so conveniently, in the middle of a residential area. The mission after gaining government approval, like most of the others around it, was developed by Franciscans, but was constantly mobilized until it made it to its present location in 1731. Due to the lack of Spaniards to colonize the new six missions that served as a barrier, many Dominican, and Franciscan missionaries looking for spiritual satisfaction in the form of converts were allowed to develop the standing missions into towns, with the understanding that they would live as Spanish citizens. The mission was the organized to have the church standing in the center of the mission, and had workshops were the Indians were taught artisan skills, as well as storage buildings. On the mission lands you could expect to find cubicles in the convent that surrounded the church, housing units along the perimeter wall for the Indians; as well orchards, crop fields, and livestock that would help support the growing Franciscan village. In the botanical gardens we got to try all of the different fruits grown in Costa Rica. They are all very good and different tasting. Even the mangos and pineapples taste so much better there. Now that we are back I dislike the ones here. One example of something we tried there was called the miracle fruit. It made anything you ate afterwards that was sour taste sweet and it actually worked. We toured the coffee plantation there as well as the college campus and had more traditional Costa Rican food in the cafeteria there. Finally, in Turriabla we went to a fruit market and an ice cream shop and practiced our Spanish. We then prepared for our third stop. San Gerardo De Dota was the next destination of the trip as well as my second favorite. On the way there, we stopped to look at one of their churches. It was beautiful but there was a service going on so we didn't want to look around too much and interrupt. We got Costa Rican snow cones which are different than ours but still very good. We stopped for more Costa Rican traditional food an learned of a volcano eruption in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Red Tent (All You Need to Literary Analysis: The Red Tent The author and her times Anita Diamant, author of the historic fiction novel, The Red Tent, is a devout Jewish–American living in Newtonville, Massachusetts with her husband and daughter, Emilia. She has written five books about contemporary Jewish life, The Red Tent being her first novel. Diamant may have been influenced by the recent resurgence of creating Midrashim, or stories that attempt to explain the Torah by examining its subtexts. The only physical description of Dinah is quite vague: "‘…the dark eyed girl with the curly hair and the fine hands…’" (Diamant 189). She was a mid–eastern girl, but little else is said of her appearance. Dinah’s character is essential to the novel, as it is a chronicle of her life. She is the heart and soul of the story. Through her the reader experiences one of the oldest stories of all time, Genesis, through the eyes of someone who was painfully obscure for thousands of years. A simple description of her own name best describes Dinah’s character: "Maybe you heard it in the music of my name: the first vowel high and clear, as when a mother calls to her child at dusk; the second sound soft, for whispering secrets on pillows" (Diamant 1). Even so early in the novel, before the actual story begins, Diamant establishes a maternal element in Dinah. "Whispering secrets" proves to be an important element in Dinah’s life, as the secrets of women are passed from mother to daughter in a never–ending cycle of life and love. In concordance with the importance placed on mothers in The Red Tent, Dinah’s most prominent mother figures, Leah and Rachel, are instrumental to the plot. When the story begins (i.e. when Jacob arrives), the sisters are fourteen and twelve. They are followed to their deaths, which, although unsaid, would be thought to be in ... This is a place where my parents grew up in and a part of me did as well. San Antonio is a very small village located in Jalisco, Mexico. This is a place where no more than 200 people live, and where everybody knows each other. I have a lot of family in this village and have many memories with each and every one of them. The earliest memory that I can recall from this place takes place in the early 2000s, and is also the first memory I have of my grandparents. San Antonio is located in the Southern part of Mexico and is a rural little village. In this village, most of the houses are located in the mountains and at times can be mistaken for abandoned. One of the homes higher up the mountain belongs to my grandparents. This is the house where my mother grew up in before moving to the United States, along with my father who's house is a very short walk away. My mom grew up in this house with 9 other siblings and although it's a pretty big house, I can only assume it was very crowded. One of the reasons I love to visit this place is because it is so isolated. There is no internet here and the nearest Wi–Fi spot is about an hour away. The nearest stores and markets are a bit closer at about 30 minutes away. Walking through this small village always feels like an adventure and there is always more to explore because there is a mountain range at the edge of the town. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Great Depression was one of the lowest, if not, the lowest point in the history of the United States. Millions of people were out of jobs and others were homeless too. The stock market was almost pointless, as the market was saturated. Real production output was unbelievably low. Nothing about any of those mentioned above have a positive outcome. There was lots of things wrong with what was going on before the depression and during the depression, but because of FDR and a little bit of luck, the United States rebuilt its economy. Though, in 2008, the US almost ran into a similar problem with the housing bubble. There were things that happened during the Great Depression that the US learned from to prevent a similar situation from happening, though in 2008, it was Ben Bernanke, a Great Depression scholar who helped correct the problem that time around (Quinn). So even though the Great Depression was a low point in the United States' history its economic and political impact was huge. Economically, the Great Depression led changes in unemployment and wages, legislation and eventually how the US got out of the depression. Politically, the United States was on the fence about capitalism because of the depression, leading to FDR's election. Being raised there was the first of many times Douglas MacArthur would ride and shoot a gun. As soon as he graduated from West Point, Douglass became a Junior Officer. Soon after, World War I began. While World War I was happening, Douglas was in Washington DC and while there he "received a promotion to Major on December 11, 1915" When the war began, MacArthur was promoted to Major. When the United States entered the war and then declared war on Germany, a division called the 42nd division was created and with that creation, MacArthur was put in control and was promoted to colonel. The Effects of Grazing and Trampling Behaviors of Large–Sized Livestock on the Formation and Weathering Patterns of Soils Introduction Walter Coppinger, a Professor of Geosciences at Trinity College in San Antonio and long–time observer of Montana geology, was the first person to describe to me the many problems of the western rangelands that have developed out of the over–grazing of cattle. From a hilltop among the upland slopes of Whitehall, Montana, he pointed out a few patches of bare earth on the horizon and some gullying out of trails across the rangelands in the distance. There are many different animal species that graze the rangelands of the world: bison in the grasslands of the Western United States, mountain goats in the Rocky Mountains, and herds of Caribou in Northwest Canada (Butler, 1995). In many cases, the actual effects that different animals have depends greatly on biological factors characteristic of their particular species, such as how large their populations tend to be, their average weight and how they distribute their weight when they walk or climb, feeding patterns, migration patterns, and other differences that depart too far from the focus of this essay to be considered in any great detail. For the purposes of this paper, unless otherwise specified, I will be considering the effects of cows, bison, and other "cattle–like" livestock animals that tend to have relatively similar physical characteristics. The degree to which an area has been grazed is often loosely categorized as an area of "light," "moderate," or "heavy" grazing, with "light" indicating rangelands with the greatest surface area and fewest animals and "heavy" indicating smaller areas for larger populations. Again, these general terms may depend on the particular species being considered. Trampling and grazing on one topography type will not necessarily have the same effect as it will have on another. Myth is threaded into history all over the world, and along the border of the United States and Mexico is no different. In "Woman Hollering Creek," Sandra Cisneros reinscribes myths that have perpetuated the patriarchy, breaking down stereotypes and the narratives that we have come to associate with them. This essay will explore the roles of La Llorona and La Malinche in "Woman Hollering Creek" and "Never Marry A Mexican." These myths are inscribed within Mexican American women and Cisneros combats these archetypes by retelling them. The reinscription of these myths by Sandra Cisneros gives up hope that there is more than just the fate of the mourning mother, the colonized victim, and the virgin. The first myth is that of La Llorona. La Llorona is one of the most prevalent myths in Latinx culture. Although there are several retellings of the myth, it is said that after finding out about her husband's infidelity La Llorona drowned their children and spends her days stuck in between the spirit world and this world, grieving their loss and searching for children to replace her own. He died at his home in Huntsville, Texas, on July 26, 1863. Now the reason why I decided to give a small biography on Sam Houston was because of Sue Flanagan. Sue Flanagan, is the former director of the Sam Houston Memorial Museum at Sam Houston State University. Why is she important, well, she wrote and illustrated a book about Sam Houston and the Texas revolution. Retracing his every step through photography, she couldn 't of caught the moment and history any better.[2] When Sam Houston crossed the Red River for the first time in 1832, he termed Texas the "finest portion of the Globe that has ever blessed my vision."[3]He soon made it his "abiding ... What I learned was not so much about the museum itself but about an individual named Ambrosio Ortega. Although unnoticed by the public, he was a great and elevating man, known to the southern California Indians. Ortega was a tribal man from the Ka–wee–as tribe. Ortega experiences the sad tragedy of his country being taken away from them by a white man under the protection of the flag; by due process of "law'. But it was clearly robbery just the same– bare faced, shameless, cold–blooded robbery under the law of the "manifest destiny". Ortega was just one of the thousands of southern Indians to be taken away from their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One great artifact that is a must see is the bell tower. It is the only freestanding one of its kind in the Alta California mission chain. It draws its inspiration from an older bell tower at Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. Another interesting and inspiring view was the cemetery. This is the original Mission cemetery. There is buried the remains of hundreds of Native American converts to Catholicism as well as other early California pioneers. When walking through the cemetery I noticed most of the graves were old wooden crosses and very few headstones were erected. While walking I began to realize I was walking where hundreds if not thousands of Indians were killed, tortured, raped and abused. My thought process after this was very humble. I believe it is something worthwhile to remember why the Mission was there in the first place which was to conquer and keep conquering rather it came from the Spanish or any other nation. First we went to go eat breakfast. Then we went back to the hotel to get ready. Now we're ready to head off to the San Antonio Zoo. At first it wasn't that cool. There were basic zoo animals then there were some cool ones like Caribbean Flamingos, bears and their snake collection was amazing. The first animals my sister and I wanted to see was the monkeys. The monkeys would swing from the trees and the vines. They were amazing. The monkeys are just like hairy humans. They would watch us as we watched them. The baby monkeys were so cute trying to keep up with the rest of the monkeys. The gorillas were so big. They just sat around acting like they didn't even notice anybody was looking at them. The chimpanzees are really smart. They knew when the zookeepers were about to come feed them and would just sit and stare at the entrance waiting. Next, we went to the African Life exhibit. They had African wild dogs and dwarf mongoose. The dwarf mongooses are so cute. They had little ears and small paws with little nails. We stayed there forever it felt like. My sister wanted to take one home but they wouldn't let her. Next was the lions they were so amazing. After 10 years, Lazarus followed the supermarket model for the store. While opening his second store he settled on the name which all kids love to hear Toys ?R? Us. From there he established community roots, loyalty from his customers, and introduced the iconic mascot Geoffrey. • 60. Persuasive Essay Going to a place where poverty reigns supreme really makes you appreciate what you have. In past years the city of Detroit has taken on a less than admirable reputation. Crime and poverty are often associated with the former car capital of the Midwest. Most people wouldn't want to step foot in the city, afraid of what they might experience. But if I had the chance to go back, I would take it in a heartbeat. Detroit is living proof that you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. In past years, the ELCA youth gathering has been held in New Orleans and San Antonio. But in 2015, it was in Detroit. At first, I had absolutely no interest in going. The way our pastor described it made it sound like a week–long church service– totally boring! We were told that we would do different community service projects and go to a worship type thing every night at Ford Field. I dreaded having to waste a week of my summer doing boring community service. Thankfully, my mom wouldn't let me back out of the trip. We rode into Detroit on a charter bus with different churches in the area. Armed with grocery bags full of snacks and water bottles, pillows, blankets, and our luggage, we began our journey to a city we had heard only bad things about. Throughout the almost five hour drive, the adults on the bus tried to keep us entertained with movies and license plate bingo. Nevertheless, we complained from hour two until we reached our hotels. Now I will admit that some places in Detroit are a little sketchy. We had assumed that our hotel would be in the nicer part of the city. Oh boy were we wrong. We pulled up to a dingy looking one story building that said "Marriot Business" on the sign out front. We were greeted inside by people from the gathering. They gave us our wristbands and bus bands and quickly told us what to expect in the week to come. Also, much to our horror, they told us where to go if there was a terror threat at the hotel. We awoke the next morning eager to do some sight–seeing before the official start of the gathering that night. We took the bus into downtown Detroit and, just like the tourist you seeing in the movies, we unashamedly took pictures of anything mildly interesting or different. We were left off the ... I'll discuss the events and political climate leading up to the siege, key historic figures involved on both sides, the siege itself, along with events immediately following the battle. Austin was concerned that the new independent Mexican government would not recognize the previous arrangements made with his father. He would have to travel all the way to Mexico City to make his case, and in 1823 the Mexican Congress confirmed Austin's grant. In 1824 the Mexican government ratified the country's first Constitution, but in doing so split the country into two diametrically opposed political ideologies. On one side you had the centralists, who favored the central government possessing much of the authority. The other was the federalists, who were in favor of states rights. In 1834, Santa Anna emerged as a military dictator and overturned the Constitution of 1824. In October 1835 the centralist congress dissolved the state legislatures and transformed the former states into military departments. The purpose of this paper is to understand how religion plays a role in the life of women in the south and discuss the ever–changing pressures they feel from their community and family. Janet said she could feel God asking her to step forward and become baptized, however, she did not step up because her parents did not nod at her that it was all right for her to go up, instead, they just looked up and focused on the preacher. Janet felt she had missed the opportunity to accept her calling from God. Janet felt betrayed by her parents because they had denied her the chance to embrace her religion. These feelings of betrayal lead her to pull away from her parents and her religion. As she progressed through high school, Janet's life revolved less and less around her religion and more and more around her own life. She no longer attended church every Sunday and the very same parents who would not let her embrace her religion began making her feel guilty for not attending services. Rousselot used dark–lensing, a way to attain low key shots and thus created a huge contrast to the sets and costumes (Maslin). This made the characters seem as though they were the only important things in the otherwise dark and gloomy shots. Mise–en–scene The mise–en–scene of Interview with the Vampire is relatively theatrical in nature. Long shots are used for much of the movie and the intense close–up shots are retained for the extremely moving victimization scenes where the camera closes in on the eyes of the vampire attacking its victim and what the vampire is feeling thru its eyes (Rice). Also because of the darkness of most of the settings within the movie and the lushness of the immediate sets and costuming one gets the feeling of the importance of the characters and where they are at. The five centuries of musical activity shows that Puerto Ricans have created, developed and promoted a variety of genres ranging from folk music, concert music and new genres. The Puerto Rican music and native musicians have shaped and enriched the identity of the Puerto Rican people and their roots.
