2. Dear Colleague
Turnarounds are often the most expensive and time consuming technical projects industries face, due to loss of
production and the immense expense of a turnaround itself.
Each day a plant is shut down, a company can lose millions
of dollars. As a result, companies are continuously searching
for new, cost effective ways to improve their shutdown and
turnaround processes.
We are pleased to offer a unique turnaround training simulation to help you save time and reduce the costs of your
next shutdown and turnaround project.

The TARfighter turnaround project simulation provides real life
scenarios to teach specific methods of practice and leadingedge techniques to manage shutdowns and turn rounds.
a
The simulation takes you through the critical phases of a
shutdown/turnaround project. Participants will be challenged
to manage typical events and conflicts, while making decisions
to meet all objectives of a critical turn round project. Take
a
on the “project manager” role without the inherent risk and
pressure of a real life turnaround.
Attendees are split into small groups, assisted by our expert
facilitators, where they go through five stages that encompass
the phases of a turnaround project.
»» Intervention – building your team to challenge a critical
shutdown
»» Scoping – optimize turnaround scope and define pre/
post turnaround activities
»» Detail Planning – creating turnaround quality assurance
and control plans
»» Execution – productively managing turnaround (meetings,
safety, control of work)
»» Project Evaluation – analyze and assess your performance
and identify areas for future improvement
Who Should Attend?
The event will be of interest to Vice Presidents, Directors, Managers, Team Leaders and Project Management from the following
departments:
TARfighter is packed with opportunities for attendees to evaluate and assess their project success, personal performance
and decision making, and future areas for improvement. It
offers an excellent team building environment for established
teams or for new turnaround teams and those that are planned to take up turnaround positions in the near future. Take
this opportunity to attend with your colleagues, work as a
team and understand the importance of each other’s roles.
Gain valuable insight and advice to
enable you to:
»» Learn how to handle risks and contingencies
»» Make decisions about the management and control of
contractors and how to handle contract requirements
for successful turnaround/shutdown projects
»» Recognize possibilities, boundaries and alternatives in
decision making and understanding their potential impact
»» Maintain control in difficult situations
»» Develop a sense of the overall-picture, as well as the details
»» Learn how to influence others in group working sessions
Don’t miss this opportunity to take away new methodologies,
best practices, and key techniques that will immediately save
you time and money on your shutdown and turnaround
projects. While any real life turnaround project involves
commercial risks and pressures, this is an opportunity to
step back and truly evaluate your current approach and
where you can improve for the future.
We look forward to welcoming you and your colleagues to
this unique turnaround project simulation.

3. TARfighter –
Shutdown Project Simulation
Delivering Cost Effective, Safe and Quality Shutdown &
Turnaround Planning and Execution Approaches
TARfighter is an interactive business simulation that presents
a realistic model of a shutdown/turnaround project at a
production site. The TARfighter simulation provides real life
scenarios to teach proven strategies to manage shutdowns
and turnarounds. During the simulation participants will
manage typical turnaround events and conflicts, while making
decisions to meet all objectives of the turnaround. At the end
of this intensive three-day simulation, attendees will walk
away with the appropriate lessons learned to complete their
next turnaround project on time and with reduced costs.
After completing TARfighter, participants
will have acquired:
»» Strategies for optimizing turnaround scope of work
»» Best practices to handle risks and contingencies of critical
shutdowns and turnarounds
»» Techniques for managing suppliers and handling contract
requirements for a successful shutdown/turnaround
project
»» Tactics on how to prevent and minimize typical obstacles
in turnaround projects
»» Understanding of all phases of a critical turnaround
project
TARfighter offers a high degree of transferable knowledge
and skills which can be used to ensure your next turnaround
is on time and on budget. TARfighter will simulate a realistic turnaround management project with approximately
40 different work packages. It will be visualized as a work
breakdown structure and Gantt diagram which contains
failures and breakdowns common to turnaround projects.
Each of the four different modules takes you through realistic
scenarios of a critical phase of a turnaround project. Lessons
learned will be shared throughout the three days, allowing
you to return to your site ready to incorporate best practice
to your methods and approaches.

4. TARfighter Agenda
The TARfighter agenda is built around the needs and expectations
of attendees. In between the running of the different ‘phases’ of the
simulation, case studies and interactive discussion sessions are designed
to complement your knowledge and allow you to discuss your decision making and results with peers. Flexibility is built into our agenda,
allowing you to raise your questions with our experts, based on your
experiences during the simulation ‘runs.’
The agenda will run from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. daily, with time
built in for refreshments, lunch and networking.
About the TARfighter Simulation
The TARfighter simulation allows you to run a realistic model of a shutdown/turnaround project making strategic decisions, and mapping the
key challenges faced by organizations in a critical turnaround project. Each
simulation module is split into a briefing and de-briefing phase. The briefings
give you the background information and instructions to complete the next
simulation. The debriefing is an integral part of each simulation module and
provides you with immediate feedback about actual turnaround scenarios
and the outcome and consequences of your decisions.
The result? You will experience “real turnaround project leadership.”
At the end of this intensive three-day course, you will walk away with
lessons learned that will allow you to complete your next turnaround
project on time and with reduced costs. The seminar starts at 8:00 a.m.
and ends at 5:00 p.m. on each day. There will be plenty of opportunities
to network with your peers and our expert facilitators each day during
lunch and the refreshment breaks.
