Domestic Violence In A Thousand Splendid Suns, By Khaled...
This assignment aims to emphasise upon the portrayal of subjugation and oppression of women, especially with reference to domestic violence, that
has been prominently depicted by the diasporic writer, Khaled Hosseini in his novel A Thousand Splendid Suns. The novel borrows its title from a
poem written about Kabul by the seventeenth century poet Saib–e–Tabrizi. The plot revolves around the lives of two Afghan women who are born a
generation apart and have been married to the same man within a span of few years. Hosseini projects how violence behind closed doors affects their
lives in a greater degree than the turmoil and terror caused in the society under the rule and influence of the Mujahideen and Taliban. Hosseini is careful

Mariam and Laila represent only a part of all the trials and tribulations the Afghan women have endured throughout their lives and project how violence
can affect individuals emotionally, mentally and physically. Oppression becomes almost ritualistic in A Thousand Splendid Suns, cruelty heaped upon
cruelty, despair buried beneath despair. Even though Afghanistan's reality seems to render melodrama virtually impossible, Hosseini reluctantly admits
that he spared readers the worst of what he saw that spring he returned. (Hosseini; Jones)
Through this novel, the author portrays the raw reality of hardship that has been, and continues to be endured by the individuals of Afghanistan, and
how the women are more violated. With poverty and abuse doing their respective rounds in the warzone, life in general has become one with grief and

How Does Steinbeck Use Ethos In The Grapes Of Wrath
John Steinbeck is the renowned author of novels such as Of Mice and Men, East of Eden, and The Pearl. In his novel The Grapes of Wrath Steinbeck
expounds on the theme of the cruelty people inflict on one another as well as how they can overcome the inhumanity of others. Steinbeck's artfully
demonstrates that this cruelty is often born out of the human tendency to think of oneself first; others, if they are thought of at all, come second.
In The Grapes of Wrath, Steinbeck effectively uses the rhetorical strategy of pathos to illuminate the dehumanization of migrant workers during the
Great Depression. His story revolves around the Joad family, as they travel from Oklahoma to California in search of work. Steinbeck appeals to the
reader's empathy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This style of writing is a crucial part of the power of The Grapes of Wrath, because this writing draws you into the plight of the Joads and their fellow
migrants.
The above passage is also an example of Steinbeck's masterful use of imagery. Steinbeck's vivid descriptions of the setting and the thoughts of the
characters allow the reader to step into the story, as if they themselves had become a part of it. Another example of Steinbeck's imagery occurs near
the end of the novel, when the Joads are moving into a train car:
"Ma opened the door of the house and stepped inside. The floor was splashed with grease. In the one room stood a rusty tin stove and nothing more.
The tin stove rested on four bricks and its rusty stovepipe went up through the roof. The room smelled of sweat and grease. Rose of Sharon stood
beside Ma. 'We gonna live here?'" (Steinbeck 408).
This quote is a prime example of the poor living conditions to which the Joads have become accustomed. The reader may be sitting on a comfortable
couch or in a grand library; still, they can almost smell the grease and the sweat, see the hazy light through the dirty

The Pros And Cons Of Animal Cloning
When the subject of cloning is brought up, many people expect to see an exact replica of a person, including the same age. However, there is much
more to cloning than creating an identical person from the original. A clone is defined to be a cell or organism that is genetically indistinguishable to
the original cell or organism from which it is acquired (Rogers, 2015). Cloning was introduced in 1903 by Herbert J. Webber, who was an American
plant scientist and used cloning in reference to plants that had been assembled through asexual propagation by horticultural methods. "Plants that are
propagated asexually, whether from twigs or cuttings of other parts or from bulbs or buds, are exact genetic replicas of their parent plant" (Rogers,
2015). In nature, cloning happens all the time. Thesis: There are many different topics to cloning other than the subject that began the idea of cloning.
Over the years, the topics of human cloning and animal cloning have been discussed bringing debate on ethical issues and whether there are any
advantages or disadvantages.
Animal cloning is a process by which a complete organism is replicated from a single cell extracted from the parent organism and in a manner in
which they are genetically the same (Cloning, 2017). Meaning, that the cloned animal is an exact copy of its parent; both contain the identical DNA
(Cloning, 2017). More specifically, in reproductive cloning, "researchers remove a mature somatic cell, such as a skin cell, from

Summary Of William Hogarth's Four Stages Of Cruelty
William Hogarth, a great satirist, was good at using his engravings to show that individual's behavior is affected by the society (the 18th century
England). Maybe The Four Stages of Cruelty can best reflect his perspective showed in the engravings. The whole series use four images to show that
Tom Nero's whole life, to show that people should not do something cruelly. Otherwise, he/she will get the retribution. The first three plates give the
reader the imagination how envy Tom Nero was and the fourth plate shows Tom Nero's consequence. Yet as Tom Nero get the retribution finally, I do
not think that Tom's behavior is his natural instinct but the effect of the society. Seeing the engravings very carefully, you will easily find out that people

Compared to the First Stage of Cruelty, the whole engraving seems like a revenge for Tom Nero. A surgeon used a knife to pull Tom's eyeball out
like what the two boys did on the bird. Another surgeon use a knife to paunch Tom Nero, and Tom's gut flow out of his body. This image recalls the
dog bite and kills a cat in the first engraving. A dog in the bottom of the fourth engraving eating Tom's heart may be the revenge for the dog tortured
by Tom Nero in the first engraving. Although Tom Nero was treated as an educational purpose, nearly half of the students in the Royal College did not
pay attention on the lecture and they even do not respect Tom Nero's body. Maybe to those students, Tom is just a sacrifice for the educational
purpose. The same situation happened on the first engraving too: a man treat a cat as sacrifice for the

Pablo Ruiz Picasso Essay
Pablo Ruiz Picasso
Pablo Picasso was born in Malaga in 1881. Pablo was the son of a respected art teacher, and due to his father's influence, young Pablo entered the
Academy at Barcelona at age 14. This was where he painted his first great work, "Girl with Bare Feet". After two years of schooling, Picasso
transferred for even for advanced tutelage. This did not hold Picasso's interest, so instead he spent much of his time in cafes and in brothels.
Three years later, Picasso won a gold medal for his work, "Customs of Aragon". This work was displayed on exhibit in Picasso's home town. In 1901,
Picasso set up a studio in the northern section of Paris known as Montmartre. Picasso had mastered traditional forms of art by now. ... Show more

His work, "Two Nudes" reflects this attitude.
Cubism soon followed after this. Picasso began experimenting with the many facets of Cubism. Cubism was developed in stages: analytic, synthetic,
hermetic, and rococo. These techniques were not only useful in painting but in collages as well. Picasso met Eva Marcelle Humbert, and fell in love
with her but the war separated them and she died in 1915. Picasso worked on "Harlequin" to cope with the grief of his lost friend.
In 1917, Picasso involved himself with Diaghilev's Russian Ballet. He worked on costume and set design for Parade(1917) and while all this was
going on Picasso met his future bride, Olga Kokhloven, who was a dancer for the ballet. The Ballet gave him inspiration for his next work, "Three
Dancers". Then something dreadful happened, a small Spanish town became a test site for some new bombs. Picasso's work, the "Guernica"
demonstrates the horror, cruelty, and injustice that took place. On a greater scale, not only does it provide compassion for those lost at Guernica,
but it also illustrates how useless and horrible war truly is. Following that, Picasso became director of the Prado Gallery in Madrid. World War II
blazed on while Picasso worked in Paris and he worked diligently despite the world around him.
Picasso left his wife in 1931, and following that he had many mistresses that provided him with inspiration for his works and even did some modeling
work for him. Picasso

West African American Slavery In The 1800s
Slavery has been around for thousands of years, but suddenly in the eighteen hundreds people started to oppose it. The New York Tribune wrote "Time
Machine 1846,"and the Washington Post published "West African Country struggles to come to terms with its slavery past"; two articles that
investigate the topic of slavery in the nineteenth century. In west Africa there is a small country along the coast called Benin. The whole country is in
controversy over the country's history and whether or not they should support their slavery past. In 1846, a man by the name of Northrup witnessed a
slave auction and the cruelty of buying slaves. These two articles have similarities but are also quite different. The most common attribute that both the

Children Who See Too Much
What goes in the mind of a mother when she first finds out about her pregnancy? Maybe she might feel extremely happy or maybe this news hit as a
shock to her. Regardless, the majority of parents always think if they will be able to provide an adequate childhood to their child. After reading the
book Children Who See Too Much, I realize that children are very sensitive to their environment. In this paper, I will try to discuss certain concerns
expressed by the author regarding exposure to violence to the children.
To begin with, in the first chapter of this book, it is described that there are three levels of exposure to violence. These are exposure to media violence,
community violence, and violence in the home. The media has been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, these are natural hazards and keeping kids away from the truth maybe equal to showing them an unrealistic view of the world.
Nevertheless, there is a variety of programs telecasted on television. Therefore, saying that the exposure to television is solely responsible for
encouraging violence would not be true. The selection of program plays a major role, due to television children get different learning opportunity.
Education regarding the selection of the program is critically important for the caregiver of the child. I believe the internet is more popular among
children as compared to the television. Moreover, there is a conscious effort made by organizations like Public Broadcasting Service to bring a
collection of age appropriate shows for children. Here I am not trying to say that television shows are completely good for children, my point is that
this facility should be provided but with good supervision. However, the synergistic effect of family and community violence and television violence is
more dangerous for the child.
In addition, to understand the effect of external environment on a child it is really important to understand how do they interpret the violent event.
This can be explained with the help of Jean Piaget theory of cognitive development, according to which a child's intellectual development is based on a
sequence of stages that a child passes through on the way to achieving the adult capacity for

The Overall Growth And Development Of C.p
Introduction C.P. is a 14 year old male that this nursing student saw on January 19, 2016 who was admitted to Renown Health's pediatric floor to
determine the cause of his cyclical vomiting. C.P. has a secondary diagnoses of autism spectrum disorder. In this paper, I will discuss the overall
growth and development of C.P. based on four developmental theorists and other children in his age range.
Overview of Growth and Development "Growth generally refers to an increase in the physical size of a whole or any of its parts or an increase in
the number and size of cell. Development is generally considered to be a continuous, orderly series of conditions leading to activities, new motives for
activities, and patterns of behavior" (James, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
51). C.P. is fourteen years old, he is categorized in the adolescence stage and age grouping.
Parameters of growth provide information on how the child should normally grow. Data in the determination of "normal" includes weight, height, and
head circumference. It is suggested that these should be measured at regular intervals throughout childhood to ensure the child is on track for normal
growth (James, et al, 2013, p. 51).
Factors influencing growth and development include genetics, environment, culture, nutrition, health status, and family. Each factor contains
information as to how the child's growth and development can be affected (James, et al, 2013, pp. 52–54).
Developmental Theorists and Theories Freud's stages of psychosexual development. Freud believed that early childhood experiences provide
unconscious motivation for actions later in life (Freud, 1960). The basis of Freud's psychosexual theory is certain parts of the body assume
psychological significance as the focus of sexual energy throughout the development of the child (James, et al, 2013, p. 57). "Freud's work may help
to explain normal behavior that parents may confuse with abnormal behavior, and it also may provide a good foundation for sex education" (James, et
al, 2013, p. 57). The stages of this theory include oral, anal, phallic, latency, and genital (James, et al, 2013, p. 57). Oral stage from

The Life Of Fredrick Douglass, An American Slave
Ironically inhumane. Maybe not ironic at all. Forced labor of humans being considered humane almost seems impossible. Everyone is human, they feel
pain, excitement, emotion, actually maybe not emotion. Emotions are typically innate, sadness, happiness, but what about empathy? Slavery brought
extreme empathy to some, but showed the void of empathy in others. Those lacking empathy can either be violent or depressed. They cannot feel for
others, have no reason to try to find a connection. One major question exists, is empathy a learned emotion? Throughout the moving, enlightening, and
harsh Fredrick Douglass autobiography, "Narrative of the Life of Fredrick Douglass, an American Slave," the former slave truly reflects on what the
public is being kept from hearing about: actual slave attitudes. Written in 1845, around the time the strongest abolitionist movements were in the
beginning stages, the recently freed slave provided a semi–live feed of what reality for the slave is truly like. With his stories of an abandoned
childhood and an under privileged education, Douglass provides the reader with the feelings, sights, and smells of living in his shoes. Taking a
retrospective view of the topic, one can jump to the conclusion of slavery being an obvious example of inhumane labor, and one that needed to be
dismantled immediately. Looking at it from the point–of–view of an average individual living among others in the recently formed United States
republic, one may be able to

ambitious, Gambaro educated herself through reading literature. She began her writing career at the age of 24, but it was not until her mid–thirties
when she started to gain recognition and success as a writer, according to Kozilowski in his article "Griselda Gambaro Facts." In the early 1960's,
Gambaro became involved with the Insituto Torucato Di Tella, an avant–grade foundation formed in Buenos Aries in 1958. It combined sociological

Disastrous Self-Cannibalism
In Western culture a fundamental belief states that humans are profoundly different from animals. In defense of our position as higher beings, we use
culture and rationality to distinguish ourselves from animals and savages. The eighteenth century European man saw himself as the very pinnacle of
culture and greatness. Advances in science had enabled man to understand and predict god's world, and innovations in art allowed man to create works
of increasing divine beauty. The progress of society was evident and continued to propel mankind to greater status with increasing distance from lowly
animals. However, several eighteenth century authors present a different account of the idea of progress. For Jonathan Swift, Alexander Pope, and
William ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In particular, Swift shows this theme of human degeneration in "A Beautiful Young Nymph Going to Bed" (1731). The poem depicts Corinna, a
prostitute, as she is removing her makeup and other fashion accessories at the end of the day. However, this nymph's evening practices elicit shock
and horror: Corinna "Takes off her artificial Hair," plucks out her "Crystal Eye," and "Untwists a Wire; and from her Gums/ A Set of Teeth
completely comes" (A Beautiful Young Nymph Going to Bed" lines 10, 11, 19
–20). This deconstruction of the female form functions as a sort of
cannibalism. It mirrors the process by which a butcher might process an animal so that its meat may be served. Indeed, Corinna is self–cannibalizing
her own body and her own humanity. As her ritual progresses, she "Unlaces next her Steel–rib'd Brodice," which conjures up imagines of metal
machinery and suggests that she is less than human and therefore lacks the power of reason that would keep her together. Furthermore, the prostitute's
steady progress in revealing her grotesquely fragmented body parallels the same falseness in society that Swift aims to reveal in his poetry. But perhaps
most horrifying is imagining how the Corinna, "Must ev'ry Morn her Limbs unite" ("A Beautiful Young Nymph Going to Bed" 66). This process of
reconstruction only works to hide her true nature, which she disguises by presenting herself as fully human. Ultimately, Corinna is made monstrous by
the demands to uphold cultural standards of

The Ethical Pros And Cons Of Animal Testing
A rabbit is sitting in a cramped, icy metal cage. They are lying in a pool of their own blood, for they have accommodated the neurotic behavior of
pulling their own hair out. This innocent hare has gone through the melancholy torture that is animal testing. Most people deem that animal testing is a
form of cruelty. Animal testing can cause major injury, psychological damage, and even death; how ethical is it, actually? The opposing side argues
that there is not a safe alternative to animal testing. According to the California Biomedical Research Association, studying cells in a petri dish does
not produce an opportunity to study different reactions that can occur in the circulatory, nervous, endocrine, and immune systems. (source) By using
petri dishes, a result of higher relevancy emerges because they are actual human cells. There are also methods such as microdosing. Microdosing is the
distribution of the chemicals, doses far too miniscule to be harmful, to living volunteers. This procedure allows scientists to study how the body reacts
and stores the chemicals without any damage or pain done to the volunteer. Others argue that computer models are only reliable if there has already
been information gathered from animal testing. Due to recent technological advances, sheets of artificial human skin that is made from authentic human
skin cells can be used to test for skin irritants. Microfluidic chips, human cells designed to function as accurately as human organs, are in

The Four Noble Truth Vs. The Eightfold Path
The Four Noble Truths are Buddha's reflections about life and they define what is suffering (dukkha) and how to overcome suffering. The first
noble truth is that no living being can escape suffering (Eastern Traditions, p.200). This suffering can be emotional or physical. Buddha wants to
emphasize that life does not always meet our expectations and this will lead to suffering. People will still be suffering even if there is not an external
source, like a disease, because they will feel unfulfilled. The second Noble Truth addresses that suffering comes from a person's desires (Eastern
Traditions, p.200). People may be able to satisfy their desires but this is only temporary solution to suffering. The third Noble truth is that person can
end their suffering if they cease their desires (Eastern Traditions, p.200). The possibility of liberation can happen if the person extinguishes his or her
desires instead of temporarily satisfying them. The fourth Noble Truth explains that following the Eightfold path is the way to put an end to suffering
(Eastern Traditions, p.200).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These stages do not have to be followed in order. The first stage is to have right understanding, which means that person should understand and accept

thoughts of non–violence and love to all creatures, which will lead to selfless detachment (Dhammapada, p.38&75). The next stage is to have the right
speech. The right speech means that a person will not slander another or lie (Dhammapada, p.70). The fourth step in the path is the right conduct
meaning that a person should engage in peaceful and moral conduct (Dhammapada,

The Roles Of Women During The Mafia
Women are not usually discussed about when it comes to organized crimes and Mafias. They are not always taken as seriously as their male
counterparts. They are usually seen as the emotional support for their men. They are viewed as passive onlookers. The women are seen as victims of
the male power, even though this plays along with the male stereotype. Women are involved in organized crimes for a number of reasons. They could
be involved out of greed, the need to survive, or even to seek independence. There are even three stages to women being involved in the Mafia. The
three stages being part of a support system, then defending their men, and the final stage being them becoming criminals. Griselda Blanco is a great

Even women involved in Mafia related activities were not taken seriously when they were arrested and taken to trial. They had a certain concept that
the Mafia was conservative and machoistic. Women were just seen as lacking the power to actually be in the Mafia. If a woman was featured in the
news of committing a Mafia crime then she was seen as some kind of mythical creature, even if a male had committed the same crime. The youth and
beauty of the women was prominent. The cruelty and brutality of the crimes were emphasized.
Women started out being a support system for their mafia male counterparts then they ended up becoming the leading protagonists. At first, women
would help hide men and would help manage the "clans". They would help maintain contact and social relations. They were seen as dependable
figures. They would help bail out men. Women that were part of a religion were viewed as being a respectable and revising image of the
organization. There were two well known groups of Mafia women and they were the Camorra and Cosa Nostra. Cosa Nostra was a Sicilian
organization. They were two completely different groups. The Sicilian Mafia women were loyal and subordinate wives. They did not interfere with
their husband's projects or decisions. They would obey all of the husband's orders. The Camorra Mafia women were involved and aware of their
husbands' activities. They

The only way to stop the abuse is intervention. The earlier we intervene the higher the rate of success. Don't turn a blind eye to this behavior, and
brushing it off as "boys will be boys" is inexcusable (Here's looking at you Channel 7 News! What a shame to make such a glib statement!). We
should never disregard acts of animal cruelty as childish pranks; otherwise we are giving children permission to inflict pain without fear of being
punished. Sure they want to explore the animal world; however, not all of them torture and kill them. If a parent allows a child to harm animals it is
highly likely that child will be violent in later life. Animal cruelty should never, ever be attributed to a stage of development in a child's life. As adults
we must take EVERY opportunity to tell them to be kind to that animal...and ask them, "Is this how you would like to be treated?" This food for

If you are concerned about your child's behavior towards animals there are means for professional help. Starting with your family doctor, you can take

Addiction Responding Task Of The Theatrical Style
Addiction Responding Task
Belgium is accredited for the creation of the theatrical style, unrealistic theatre; although unrealistic theatre is a blanket term incorporating Absurdist
Theatre, Expressionism, Theatre of Cruelty and more. Non–realistic Theatre isn't restricted to traditionally recreating life on stage, but it investigates

This piece of drama conveyed the dramatic meaning (moral), "The effect is of a background of magnificence cheapened by commercialism." (O'Neil,

for the disadvantaged. Techniques which were present in this activity were manipulated, personalised and incorporated into Addiction. In Addiction,
Scene 8, masks were utilised to strip Darcy's family of their identities and transform them into his memories. By masking his family members it

Tension drives a situation which is directed by the focus; tension can be created through including roles, characters surprise and mystery. Tension can be

An Analysis Of Punishment, By Seamus Heaney
Poets have rarely shown a perspective as dubious on the atrocities of the Irish Republican Army as Seamus Heaney has done in his poem "Punishment".
Heaney succeeds in uniting two contradictory perspectives by comparing the cruelty of an ancient time fluently with contemporary barbarism. By
viewing contemporary violence through the lens of Iron Age customs, he untangles the harsh truth of human nature. Unlike other essays, which have
focussed primarily on the historical background, this essay will analyse the lexical aspects that colour these former and present times. By looking at the
extensive use of lexical oppositions and poetic devices, one can see the many layers Heaney has used, which is important to underscore the contrasting

The poem is enjambed across both lines and stanzas, which allows the reader to flow along in an evolvement of thoughts. Moreover, past and
present seem to merge smoothly since he easily draws parallels between the ritual sacrifice from the Iron Age and the killings by IRA at the time.
The speaker moves from a detached observer to a puzzled participant, who senses the linkage between the socialized violence of ancient and
contemporary times. Other tools used to link words, and thus meanings, together and to increase the fluency of the text are alliterations and
assonances. The dark sentiment in this poem is carried on a system of clear alliteration: "halter, nape, her neck, her naked and her nipples" in the first
stanza, a case of double alliteration, and "rigging her ribs", "body in the bog", "stones of silence", "shaved head like a stubble", "blindfold of a soiled
bandage". Assonance is used abundantly in the third paragraph. Furthermore, the poem is written in iambic pentameter without rhyme. This rhythmic
form also aids to create a continuous flow throughout the eleven four–line

On the first FRQ3 of the year, I received a score of seven points out of a total of nine points possible. The prompt had to do with the role of cruelty in
literature works as a whole and my job was then to "write a well–developed essay analyzing how cruelty functions in the work as a whole and what the
cruelty reveals about the perpetrator and/or victim." In this essay, I decided to use The Crucible and how the character, Abigail Williams, uses cruelty
to benefit herself and her selfish ambitions. Though a seven is a decently good score, it was definitely not the best I could do. One of my peers

Though I hit all the major requirements of the prompt, the overall essay could have be written much smoother and I could have expanded on my
analysis. One thing I noticed as well was that I should have related my argument to the theme of the actual story. For example, my last sentence in
the paragraph that I explained the role of cruelty in The Crucible was "In simple terms, Abigail killed many innocent people solely for the purpose
of getting a man to love". At this point, I could have easily expanded on how this was indeed cruelty and how it relates to the actual theme of the
literary work. What I should have done was relate my argument and assertion to the book as whole and use this to further relate The Crucible to
cruelty. For the second part of my prompt which was to "[analyze] what the cruelty reveals about the perpetrator and/or victim", I feel as though I
did a good job on that. Both my peers graded that part with either a five out of five or a four out of five. They said that I showed what cruelty

Child Welfare And The United States Department Of Justice
According to the United States department of Justice, Over sixty percent of American children are exposed to a type of violence every year
(Finkelhor, D., Turner, H., Ormrod, R., Hamby, S., and Kracke, K. 2009). These forms of violence can be perpetrated by a victims home, community
or school, with majority of children knowing the perpetrator(s). These experiences with violence whether primary or secondary, can cause serious
psychological trauma to a child and in worst case scenarios death. The 2009 survey by the Department of Justice also found that children exposed to
any form of violence were more likely to engage in violence in the future and almost forty percent of these children were exposed to multiple acts of
violence ( pg.2). The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

data was so rare that National Incidence Study of Missing, Abducted, Runaway and Throwaway (NISMART) was created in 1984. This system found
that roughly 40% of these cases were actual missing children incidences (p. 186), but 40% as well were misunderstanding between the child and
parent, 10% being due to injury/illness. This chapter also gave excellent information on children in the Justice system, as witnesses, and the laws

Human Testing : The Benefits Of Animal Testing
Do you know how products are deemed safe for human use or consumption? In the 1940s the polio virus killed thousands of people around the
world every year. In 1952 polio reached its peak in the United States with over 21,000 fatal cases. After a vaccination was developed in the 1950s
and the 1960s, polio was nearly eliminated has a public health threat. Today children get routine vaccine that provides protection for life against the
disease. Millions of people are healthy adults because of vaccines that were made possible by animal testing (Benefits of).
Animal testing is the use of non–human animals in research projects, mostly for purposes like determining the safety of products such as cosmetics or
drugs (Animal testing). Some tests used on animals include injecting or forcing an animal to consume potentially harmful products, exposing animals
to radiation, forcing animals to inhale toxic fumes, and exposing animals to experiences that cause anxiety and depression. Some big brands pay to test
on animals, and they include Avon, Maybelline, Mary Kay, Victoria's Secret, and various others (Search for). Animal testing should be banned due to it
being so cruel, unethical, and unreliable.
According to Cruelty Free International, most animals that are used for experimentation are bred for this purpose in laboratories or breeding facilities.
Currently, millions of dogs, cats, mice. monkeys, birds, and even more, are being locked in cold cages, being cruelly tested on. A

Theme Of God And Justice In The Duchess Of Malfi
Webster's play is set in a Universe where God and Justice are absent.
Our paper focusses on the significance of God and justice in John Webster's plays, in particular The Duchess of Malfi, and how god and justice are
not particularly evident in his tragedies. The Duchess of Malfi is one of those Italian stories, full of hatred, wrath and wickedness, of which the
Elizabethans were so fond. Firstly, we will begin with an outline of Elizabethan Revenge Tragedy; where the passion of revenge, motivated by
subsidiary passions of anger, jealousy, pride, ambition or envy, was not held to be a crime, but rather the most befitting and just way to right a wrong,
as was evident in the case of Bosola, who Killed Cardinal and Ferdinard on realizing that he has been duped by them into committing a grave sin of
killing the innocent Duchess. In the God–fearing Elizabethan Age (1558–1603), with the word of God so expressly ... Show more content on

Cruelty, Neglect, And Neglect Of A Pet
Growing up, most kids wanted a pet. They wanted a dog, cat, fish, lizard, hamster, or even a bird. Many parents saw this as a way to help teach their
children responsibility. However, some parents failed to teach their child how to treat and take care of their pet. Due to the lack of knowledge of how
to properly take care of and treat a pet, many pets have ended up abused and, in worst cases, dead. Most people think that dog abuse is just beating their
dog or putting them in a dog fight. Indiana has laws against abandonment, neglect, and physical abuse of dogs, but some owners need to realize that
these laws are being broken by acts of unintentional abuse and since most acts of abuse are unintentional there needs to be a way to educate people.
Another name for unintentional abuse is neglect. It results from a lack of knowledge of how to properly train and take care of a pet. Some
examples of unintentional abuse are: cruel shelter environment, lack of food and or water, lack of veterinary care, depriving them of attention and
love, and a lack of recreational stimuli. Unfortunately, "many of these people don 't know that what they are doing is cruel. For example, some may
keep a dog in their yard with a doghouse that is on the ground and gets flooded with water when it rains, or they keep their dog on a short chain all of
the time without realizing that the dog needs better shelter " ("Information on Animal", n.d.). It seems that some people abuse their pet because they

This proposal will demonstrate the link between cruelty to pet animals in families where battering occurs. There's little data to cover this topic, but this
type of abuse is very common Animal cruelty may be a sign of a family environment that is violent or abusive (Duncan & Miller, 2002) but few studies
have actually examined this link. This study will try to make that link using measurement of qualitative data. Researching the link between violence in
the home and animals is very important because it can serve as an indicator of abuse. The animal abuser can be either a child or an adult in the family
where the abuse occurs. The Results will suggest that animal abuse may indicative of family violence in the home. Introduction The greatest distortion
of the human/animal relationship is the act of cruelty towards animals. The legislative response to animal cruelty first became known in North America
and Europe in the beginning of the eighteenth centuries. Concern for the pain and suffering experience of animals came about when we started
"humanizing animals". Animals were allowed in the house, given a name and taken care for much like you would a child. Thomas (1983) study found
the following: "It encouraged [people) to form optimistic conclusions about animal intelligence:... it stimuВlated the notion that animals could have
character and individual personaliВty; and [most of all) it created the psychological foundation for the view that some animals at

The Four Stages In Ovid's Metamorphoses
Pythagoras was a Greek philosopher born in 570 B.C.E. In Ovid's the Metamorphoses, Pythagoras discusses a variety of beliefs including the four ages
of man, autogenesis, and vegetarianism.
The four stages of man as described by Pythagoras states, " that the year displays four aspects, passing through them, in a semblance of our life." Each
season represents a different aspect of man. Spring is a delicate time of year full of new beginnings and hope. Summer is described as powerful,
rich, and expansive. Fall is the time between youth and age. Pythagoras describes winter as hair turning white. Each and every day we change as
people. We are youthful and then after the middle years we decline as life moves on. In the Ovid, Milon an athlete who... Show more content on

use these to our advantage and not shed the blood of animals. Pythagoras believes(VOTH) that flesh is the diet of a beast and that only a beast is

am not a vegetarian. It is necessary to eat meat to consume certain proteins needed by our bodies. The circle of life allows for the predators to eat
their prey. Humans do defy this stereotype due to technology, since there is no animal predator to us. However I do believe that animals can't be
hunted to extinction. There should be boundaries when we use animals as our food source. As for the agriculture, we do eat crops and meat. This

Michel De Montaigne On The Cannibals Analysis
French philosopher Michel de Montaigne's essay "On the Cannibals", part of the larger collection of his complete essays, was written before the term
nostalgia officially existed. The term nostalgia was coined by the Swiss physician Johannes Hofer in 1688 whereas "On the Cannibals" was first
published in 1580 . Hence there is an absence of theory on nostalgia at the time of Montaigne's writing. However, this does not mean that Montaigne's
work cannot be examined in relation to the concept of nostalgia. It just means that it is necessary to historicise the concept and not impose modern
values on to the premodern use of the term. Modern nostalgia is usually understood as a sentimental longing for familiar surroundings or for a period

Montaigne wrote "On the Cannibals" during the period of the French Wars of Religion fought between the Roman Catholics and the Huguenots.
Montaigne, though a Roman Catholic himself, loathed the fanaticism and violence of these wars and retired from public life to his lands in the
Dordogne, devoting himself to reading and reflection. For Montaigne, cruelty was a deciding factor that differentiated the French Wars of Religion
from previous conflicts. Montaigne's disgust at the cruelty committed by his own people during these wars is a central theme running throughout "On
the Cannibals". The French Wars of Religion called into question the idea that western European society was the pinnacle of civilisation as well as the
idea that humanity is progressive, forever working to reach the best version of itself. The concept of the Ages of Man, explored earlier, depicts history
and by proxy humanity as in a state of decline in contrast to the progressive view of history that informs modern nostalgia in which humanity is striving
to reach its most perfect state. Montaigne implicitly questions the assumption that western European society was the most advanced and civilised at the
time by comparing the behaviour and bloody rituals of the TupinambГЎ people to the behaviour of the people in his own

Animal Testing Argument Essay
In 2014 the University of Sydney killed eight marmosets to study the retinas from eight eyes and explore a type of cell that exists in the eye. The study
states that "only one eye was used from each of the marmosets" and whilst the study allowed them to better characterize the cell, it did not contribute to
any medical advancements for humans (Humane Research Australia, 2016). This inhumane treatment of animals makes one wonder about the
ethicality of these animal research experimentations. Animal testing is a global ethical issue because it negates the dignity of animals. Scientists and
medical professionals support animal testing as a means to enhance and prolong human life, whereas PETA and RSPCA oppose animal testing because

procedures performed upon them (Healey, J. 2015, p. 34). In these experiments, animals could be subjected to a variety of tests including: injections;
exposure to radiation; organ transplants or removal; inhalation of toxic gases; or forced to enter distressing environments in order to explore their

Here are some differences between horses and ponies.
One difference is the height. A hand is about 4 inches. If you measured a regular sized horse with hands it would be at least 14.2 hands (or about four
feet ten inches). A pony on the other hand, a regular sized pony equine less than 14.2 hands.
Another difference is there coats. A pony has a thicker coat then a horse. While the hairs of a horse usually are fine and thin while a pony's hair will
provide a thick layer that will make the pony appear big. That helps the pony stay warm in colder weather.

A Short Note On Buddhism Essay
Final Term Paper
Buddhism
Have you ever wondered how meditation, kindness, and suffering can help you reach true peace? Today, I will be informing you on how these
concepts as well as a few others play an important role in reaching none other than, Nirvana. What I am going to be discussing is one of the great Asian
philosophical and religious traditions, Buddhism.
Those who practice Buddhism believe that life goes on and on in many reincarnations or rebirths. The eternal hope for all who practice Buddhism is
that through reincarnation one comes back into successively better lives; until one achieves the goal of being free from pain and suffering and not
having to come back again. This wheel of rebirth, known as Samsara, goes on forever until one achieves Nirvana. The Buddhist definition of Nirvana
is "the highest state of spiritual bliss, as absolute immortality through absorption of the soul into itself, but preserving individuality." Birth is not the
beginning and death is not the end. This cycle of life has no beginning and can go on forever without an end. The ultimate goal for every Buddhist,
Nirvana, is to accomplish total enlightenment and liberation. By achieving this goal, one can be liberated from the never–ending round of birth, death,
and rebirth. Transmigration, the Buddhist cycle of birth, death, and rebirth, does not involve the reincarnation of a spirit, but only the rebirth of a
consciousness containing the seeds of good and evil deeds. Buddhism

Persuasive Essay On Animals
Everyday nearly twenty six million meat birds die. That's 300 chickens a second. These chickens who are basically babies, hang by their feet in
blood splattered shackles. Their lives have barely begun. With crimson feathers, they are forced to stare at the incarnadine walls. Their only
reminder of family, friends, and strangers, it's a promise of their future. Barely alive chickens who have been thrown, kicked or stomped upon,
litter the floor gasping for air in the ammonia filled room. About twenty eight thousand cows die everyday. Cows have their limbs strewn around
to decorate the floor, smears of red matching the kill floor's stained color. Deep, low bellows echoing of the walls signaling the cows' distress when
they smell the blood of their friends and now they know what's next. The drain overflows with the almost black fluid as a cow's throat is slit, its
eyes wide while all twelve gallons of its blood comes cascading out while the rest of them hang from bloody chains protruding from the ceiling. These

Now you're a strayed four–legged pet that has found an easy escape route from a pet abuser who abused and neglected you, communicating in a

Artaud's
Theater of Cruelty
пЃ¬Introduction
пЃ¬During the early 1930s, the French dramatist and actor Antonin Artaud put forth a theory for a Surrealist theatre called the Theatre of Cruelty.
пЃ¬Based on ritual and fantasy, this form of theatre launches an attack on the spectators' subconscious in an attempt to release deep–rooted fears and
anxieties that are normally suppressed, forcing people to view themselves and their natures without the shield of civilization.
пЃ¬Theatre of Cruelty usually minimizes the text by emphasizing screams, inarticulate cries, and symbolic gestures.

пЃ¬In his book The Theatre and Its Double, Artaud expressed his admiration for Eastern forms of theatre, particularly the Balinese.
пЃ¬Influence of the Balinese Theater
пЃ¬At the Colonial Exposition of 1931, where he saw the Balinese theater, he was struck by the tremendous difference between those plays and our
traditional Western play. A dramatic presentation should be an act of initiation during which the spectator will be awed and even terrified
––and to such
a degree that he will lose control of his reason.
пЃ¬"All true feeling is in reality untranslatable. To express it is to betray it. But to translate it is to dissimulate it."
пЃ¬The fact that words are not the essential features in Balinese theatre appealed strongly to Artaud; he who had always had such difficulties
formulating ideas by means of them and who described his struggles in this domain so pathetically.
пЃ¬Artaud was absolutely convinced that words are just incapable of expressing certain attitudes and feelings, and that these can be revealed only

The Pros And Cons Of Animal Testing
The use of animals to test medicines, cosmetics and new drugs has been a controversial debate for years. It is estimated that every year, the United
States alone uses 26 million animals to test commercial products and medical treatments to determine the different toxicity rates of drugs that will
potentially be used by humans (https://speakingofresearch.com/facts/statistics/). The use of animal testing has been proven time and time again to be
ineffective and it also is a practice of animal cruelty; many animals are thought to be companions to humans and do not have the ability to speak for
themselves. Many different animals are subject to these tests such as hamsters, rabbits, fish, monkeys, dogs, cats, mice and rats have been used for
decades as tools for understanding the effects of drugs, medical experiments and even surgery. A multitude of the tests performed on animals are for
diseases that animals do not even get, so they are created in a laboratory as an attempt to replicate the disease in animals. Humans are much more
complex than animals and do not have the emotional, psychological or hereditary genes that humans do, making the tests performed on animals
inconclusive and misleading. Although animal testing has provided some advances in medicine, it is inhumane and cruel, an expensive method of
research and not an accurate way of testing the effects of drugs in humans which can lead to horrible side effects, liver failure and even death.

Stage Design In Macbeth
In Act one, the three witches proclaim, "All hail, Macbeth, thou shalt be king hereafter!" However, they should have named "Confusion" as the
usurper of the throne because it is the only force really in control of the Riverside Theatre's performance of Macbeth at the Festival Stage in Lower
City Park. Multiple aspects of the play were very vague or in downright disarray: Setting, genre, stage design, and even casting choice. The production
was attempting to make a new spin on centuries–old play, but they ultimately lost sight of original entirely. Setting, the most basic element of the play,
is entirely undefinable in the production. The characters wore costumes resembling World War II Soviet military uniforms and dresses taken from a
1940s Macys advertisement. However, the play still refers to the Scottish crown and Macbeth's "castle." In addition, the stage music does little to
clarify the setting. In some scenes, the background music sounds like that of a traditional Highland dance with bagpipes blaring. However, in other
scenes there are tribal drums and marimbas. Also, the actors had neither Russian nor Scottish accents; they were all Midwestern. Ultimately, if the
director wants to change the setting of the original play, they need to make it a complete change. It should not seem as if the audience is partly in the

Domestic Violence In A Thousand Splendid Suns, By Khaled...

  • 1. Domestic Violence In A Thousand Splendid Suns, By Khaled... This assignment aims to emphasise upon the portrayal of subjugation and oppression of women, especially with reference to domestic violence, that has been prominently depicted by the diasporic writer, Khaled Hosseini in his novel A Thousand Splendid Suns. The novel borrows its title from a poem written about Kabul by the seventeenth century poet Saib–e–Tabrizi. The plot revolves around the lives of two Afghan women who are born a generation apart and have been married to the same man within a span of few years. Hosseini projects how violence behind closed doors affects their lives in a greater degree than the turmoil and terror caused in the society under the rule and influence of the Mujahideen and Taliban. Hosseini is careful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mariam and Laila represent only a part of all the trials and tribulations the Afghan women have endured throughout their lives and project how violence can affect individuals emotionally, mentally and physically. Oppression becomes almost ritualistic in A Thousand Splendid Suns, cruelty heaped upon cruelty, despair buried beneath despair. Even though Afghanistan's reality seems to render melodrama virtually impossible, Hosseini reluctantly admits that he spared readers the worst of what he saw that spring he returned. (Hosseini; Jones) Through this novel, the author portrays the raw reality of hardship that has been, and continues to be endured by the individuals of Afghanistan, and how the women are more violated. With poverty and abuse doing their respective rounds in the warzone, life in general has become one with grief and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. How Does Steinbeck Use Ethos In The Grapes Of Wrath John Steinbeck is the renowned author of novels such as Of Mice and Men, East of Eden, and The Pearl. In his novel The Grapes of Wrath Steinbeck expounds on the theme of the cruelty people inflict on one another as well as how they can overcome the inhumanity of others. Steinbeck's artfully demonstrates that this cruelty is often born out of the human tendency to think of oneself first; others, if they are thought of at all, come second. In The Grapes of Wrath, Steinbeck effectively uses the rhetorical strategy of pathos to illuminate the dehumanization of migrant workers during the Great Depression. His story revolves around the Joad family, as they travel from Oklahoma to California in search of work. Steinbeck appeals to the reader's empathy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This style of writing is a crucial part of the power of The Grapes of Wrath, because this writing draws you into the plight of the Joads and their fellow migrants. The above passage is also an example of Steinbeck's masterful use of imagery. Steinbeck's vivid descriptions of the setting and the thoughts of the characters allow the reader to step into the story, as if they themselves had become a part of it. Another example of Steinbeck's imagery occurs near the end of the novel, when the Joads are moving into a train car: "Ma opened the door of the house and stepped inside. The floor was splashed with grease. In the one room stood a rusty tin stove and nothing more. The tin stove rested on four bricks and its rusty stovepipe went up through the roof. The room smelled of sweat and grease. Rose of Sharon stood beside Ma. 'We gonna live here?'" (Steinbeck 408). This quote is a prime example of the poor living conditions to which the Joads have become accustomed. The reader may be sitting on a comfortable couch or in a grand library; still, they can almost smell the grease and the sweat, see the hazy light through the dirty ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Pros And Cons Of Animal Cloning When the subject of cloning is brought up, many people expect to see an exact replica of a person, including the same age. However, there is much more to cloning than creating an identical person from the original. A clone is defined to be a cell or organism that is genetically indistinguishable to the original cell or organism from which it is acquired (Rogers, 2015). Cloning was introduced in 1903 by Herbert J. Webber, who was an American plant scientist and used cloning in reference to plants that had been assembled through asexual propagation by horticultural methods. "Plants that are propagated asexually, whether from twigs or cuttings of other parts or from bulbs or buds, are exact genetic replicas of their parent plant" (Rogers, 2015). In nature, cloning happens all the time. Thesis: There are many different topics to cloning other than the subject that began the idea of cloning. Over the years, the topics of human cloning and animal cloning have been discussed bringing debate on ethical issues and whether there are any advantages or disadvantages. Animal cloning is a process by which a complete organism is replicated from a single cell extracted from the parent organism and in a manner in which they are genetically the same (Cloning, 2017). Meaning, that the cloned animal is an exact copy of its parent; both contain the identical DNA (Cloning, 2017). More specifically, in reproductive cloning, "researchers remove a mature somatic cell, such as a skin cell, from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Summary Of William Hogarth's Four Stages Of Cruelty William Hogarth, a great satirist, was good at using his engravings to show that individual's behavior is affected by the society (the 18th century England). Maybe The Four Stages of Cruelty can best reflect his perspective showed in the engravings. The whole series use four images to show that Tom Nero's whole life, to show that people should not do something cruelly. Otherwise, he/she will get the retribution. The first three plates give the reader the imagination how envy Tom Nero was and the fourth plate shows Tom Nero's consequence. Yet as Tom Nero get the retribution finally, I do not think that Tom's behavior is his natural instinct but the effect of the society. Seeing the engravings very carefully, you will easily find out that people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Compared to the First Stage of Cruelty, the whole engraving seems like a revenge for Tom Nero. A surgeon used a knife to pull Tom's eyeball out like what the two boys did on the bird. Another surgeon use a knife to paunch Tom Nero, and Tom's gut flow out of his body. This image recalls the dog bite and kills a cat in the first engraving. A dog in the bottom of the fourth engraving eating Tom's heart may be the revenge for the dog tortured by Tom Nero in the first engraving. Although Tom Nero was treated as an educational purpose, nearly half of the students in the Royal College did not pay attention on the lecture and they even do not respect Tom Nero's body. Maybe to those students, Tom is just a sacrifice for the educational purpose. The same situation happened on the first engraving too: a man treat a cat as sacrifice for the ... • 5. Pablo Ruiz Picasso Essay Pablo Ruiz Picasso Pablo Picasso was born in Malaga in 1881. Pablo was the son of a respected art teacher, and due to his father's influence, young Pablo entered the Academy at Barcelona at age 14. This was where he painted his first great work, "Girl with Bare Feet". After two years of schooling, Picasso transferred for even for advanced tutelage. This did not hold Picasso's interest, so instead he spent much of his time in cafes and in brothels. Three years later, Picasso won a gold medal for his work, "Customs of Aragon". This work was displayed on exhibit in Picasso's home town. In 1901, Picasso set up a studio in the northern section of Paris known as Montmartre. Picasso had mastered traditional forms of art by now. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His work, "Two Nudes" reflects this attitude. Cubism soon followed after this. Picasso began experimenting with the many facets of Cubism. Cubism was developed in stages: analytic, synthetic, hermetic, and rococo. These techniques were not only useful in painting but in collages as well. Picasso met Eva Marcelle Humbert, and fell in love with her but the war separated them and she died in 1915. Picasso worked on "Harlequin" to cope with the grief of his lost friend. In 1917, Picasso involved himself with Diaghilev's Russian Ballet. He worked on costume and set design for Parade(1917) and while all this was going on Picasso met his future bride, Olga Kokhloven, who was a dancer for the ballet. The Ballet gave him inspiration for his next work, "Three Dancers". Then something dreadful happened, a small Spanish town became a test site for some new bombs. Picasso's work, the "Guernica" demonstrates the horror, cruelty, and injustice that took place. On a greater scale, not only does it provide compassion for those lost at Guernica, but it also illustrates how useless and horrible war truly is. Following that, Picasso became director of the Prado Gallery in Madrid. World War II blazed on while Picasso worked in Paris and he worked diligently despite the world around him. Picasso left his wife in 1931, and following that he had many mistresses that provided him with inspiration for his works and even did some modeling work for him. Picasso ... The New York Tribune wrote "Time Machine 1846,"and the Washington Post published "West African Country struggles to come to terms with its slavery past"; two articles that investigate the topic of slavery in the nineteenth century. In west Africa there is a small country along the coast called Benin. The whole country is in controversy over the country's history and whether or not they should support their slavery past. • 8. Children Who See Too Much What goes in the mind of a mother when she first finds out about her pregnancy? Maybe she might feel extremely happy or maybe this news hit as a shock to her. Regardless, the majority of parents always think if they will be able to provide an adequate childhood to their child. After reading the book Children Who See Too Much, I realize that children are very sensitive to their environment. In this paper, I will try to discuss certain concerns expressed by the author regarding exposure to violence to the children. To begin with, in the first chapter of this book, it is described that there are three levels of exposure to violence. These are exposure to media violence, community violence, and violence in the home. The media has been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Moreover, these are natural hazards and keeping kids away from the truth maybe equal to showing them an unrealistic view of the world. Nevertheless, there is a variety of programs telecasted on television. Therefore, saying that the exposure to television is solely responsible for encouraging violence would not be true. The selection of program plays a major role, due to television children get different learning opportunity. Education regarding the selection of the program is critically important for the caregiver of the child. I believe the internet is more popular among children as compared to the television. Moreover, there is a conscious effort made by organizations like Public Broadcasting Service to bring a collection of age appropriate shows for children. Here I am not trying to say that television shows are completely good for children, my point is that this facility should be provided but with good supervision. However, the synergistic effect of family and community violence and television violence is more dangerous for the child. In addition, to understand the effect of external environment on a child it is really important to understand how do they interpret the violent event. This can be explained with the help of Jean Piaget theory of cognitive development, according to which a child's intellectual development is based on a sequence of stages that a child passes through on the way to achieving the adult capacity for ... • 9. The Overall Growth And Development Of C.p Introduction C.P. is a 14 year old male that this nursing student saw on January 19, 2016 who was admitted to Renown Health's pediatric floor to determine the cause of his cyclical vomiting. C.P. has a secondary diagnoses of autism spectrum disorder. In this paper, I will discuss the overall growth and development of C.P. based on four developmental theorists and other children in his age range. Overview of Growth and Development "Growth generally refers to an increase in the physical size of a whole or any of its parts or an increase in the number and size of cell. Development is generally considered to be a continuous, orderly series of conditions leading to activities, new motives for activities, and patterns of behavior" (James, ... Parameters of growth provide information on how the child should normally grow. Data in the determination of "normal" includes weight, height, and head circumference. It is suggested that these should be measured at regular intervals throughout childhood to ensure the child is on track for normal growth (James, et al, 2013, p. 51). Factors influencing growth and development include genetics, environment, culture, nutrition, health status, and family. Each factor contains information as to how the child's growth and development can be affected (James, et al, 2013, pp. 52–54). Developmental Theorists and Theories Freud's stages of psychosexual development. Freud believed that early childhood experiences provide unconscious motivation for actions later in life (Freud, 1960). "Freud's work may help to explain normal behavior that parents may confuse with abnormal behavior, and it also may provide a good foundation for sex education" (James, et al, 2013, p. 57). • 10. The Life Of Fredrick Douglass, An American Slave Ironically inhumane. Maybe not ironic at all. Forced labor of humans being considered humane almost seems impossible. Everyone is human, they feel pain, excitement, emotion, actually maybe not emotion. Emotions are typically innate, sadness, happiness, but what about empathy? Slavery brought extreme empathy to some, but showed the void of empathy in others. Those lacking empathy can either be violent or depressed. They cannot feel for others, have no reason to try to find a connection. One major question exists, is empathy a learned emotion? Throughout the moving, enlightening, and harsh Fredrick Douglass autobiography, "Narrative of the Life of Fredrick Douglass, an American Slave," the former slave truly reflects on what the public is being kept from hearing about: actual slave attitudes. Written in 1845, around the time the strongest abolitionist movements were in the beginning stages, the recently freed slave provided a semi–live feed of what reality for the slave is truly like. With his stories of an abandoned childhood and an under privileged education, Douglass provides the reader with the feelings, sights, and smells of living in his shoes. Taking a retrospective view of the topic, one can jump to the conclusion of slavery being an obvious example of inhumane labor, and one that needed to be dismantled immediately. Looking at it from the point–of–view of an average individual living among others in the recently formed United States republic, one may be able to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In defense of our position as higher beings, we use culture and rationality to distinguish ourselves from animals and savages. The eighteenth century European man saw himself as the very pinnacle of culture and greatness. Advances in science had enabled man to understand and predict god's world, and innovations in art allowed man to create works of increasing divine beauty. The progress of society was evident and continued to propel mankind to greater status with increasing distance from lowly animals. However, several eighteenth century authors present a different account of the idea of progress. For Jonathan Swift, Alexander Pope, and William ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In particular, Swift shows this theme of human degeneration in "A Beautiful Young Nymph Going to Bed" (1731). The poem depicts Corinna, a prostitute, as she is removing her makeup and other fashion accessories at the end of the day. However, this nymph's evening practices elicit shock and horror: Corinna "Takes off her artificial Hair," plucks out her "Crystal Eye," and "Untwists a Wire; and from her Gums/ A Set of Teeth completely comes" (A Beautiful Young Nymph Going to Bed" lines 10, 11, 19 –20). This deconstruction of the female form functions as a sort of cannibalism. It mirrors the process by which a butcher might process an animal so that its meat may be served. Indeed, Corinna is self–cannibalizing her own body and her own humanity. As her ritual progresses, she "Unlaces next her Steel–rib'd Brodice," which conjures up imagines of metal machinery and suggests that she is less than human and therefore lacks the power of reason that would keep her together. Furthermore, the prostitute's steady progress in revealing her grotesquely fragmented body parallels the same falseness in society that Swift aims to reveal in his poetry. But perhaps most horrifying is imagining how the Corinna, "Must ev'ry Morn her Limbs unite" ("A Beautiful Young Nymph Going to Bed" 66). This process of reconstruction only works to hide her true nature, which she disguises by presenting herself as fully human. Ultimately, Corinna is made monstrous by the demands to uphold cultural standards of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This innocent hare has gone through the melancholy torture that is animal testing. Most people deem that animal testing is a form of cruelty. Animal testing can cause major injury, psychological damage, and even death; how ethical is it, actually? The opposing side argues that there is not a safe alternative to animal testing. According to the California Biomedical Research Association, studying cells in a petri dish does not produce an opportunity to study different reactions that can occur in the circulatory, nervous, endocrine, and immune systems. (source) By using petri dishes, a result of higher relevancy emerges because they are actual human cells. There are also methods such as microdosing. Microdosing is the distribution of the chemicals, doses far too miniscule to be harmful, to living volunteers. This procedure allows scientists to study how the body reacts and stores the chemicals without any damage or pain done to the volunteer. Others argue that computer models are only reliable if there has already been information gathered from animal testing. The first noble truth is that no living being can escape suffering (Eastern Traditions, p.200). This suffering can be emotional or physical. Buddha wants to emphasize that life does not always meet our expectations and this will lead to suffering. People will still be suffering even if there is not an external source, like a disease, because they will feel unfulfilled. The second Noble Truth addresses that suffering comes from a person's desires (Eastern Traditions, p.200). People may be able to satisfy their desires but this is only temporary solution to suffering. The third Noble truth is that person can end their suffering if they cease their desires (Eastern Traditions, p.200). By viewing contemporary violence through the lens of Iron Age customs, he untangles the harsh truth of human nature. Many parents saw this as a way to help teach their children responsibility. However, some parents failed to teach their child how to treat and take care of their pet. Due to the lack of knowledge of how to properly take care of and treat a pet, many pets have ended up abused and, in worst cases, dead. Most people think that dog abuse is just beating their dog or putting them in a dog fight. Indiana has laws against abandonment, neglect, and physical abuse of dogs, but some owners need to realize that these laws are being broken by acts of unintentional abuse and since most acts of abuse are unintentional there needs to be a way to educate people. Montaigne, though a Roman Catholic himself, loathed the fanaticism and violence of these wars and retired from public life to his lands in the Dordogne, devoting himself to reading and reflection. Montaigne's disgust at the cruelty committed by his own people during these wars is a central theme running throughout "On the Cannibals". The French Wars of Religion called into question the idea that western European society was the pinnacle of civilisation as well as the idea that humanity is progressive, forever working to reach the best version of itself. The concept of the Ages of Man, explored earlier, depicts history and by proxy humanity as in a state of decline in contrast to the progressive view of history that informs modern nostalgia in which humanity is striving to reach its most perfect state. Montaigne implicitly questions the assumption that western European society was the most advanced and civilised at the time by comparing the behaviour and bloody rituals of the TupinambГЎ people to the behaviour of the people in his own ... • 28. Animal Testing Argument Essay In 2014 the University of Sydney killed eight marmosets to study the retinas from eight eyes and explore a type of cell that exists in the eye. The study states that "only one eye was used from each of the marmosets" and whilst the study allowed them to better characterize the cell, it did not contribute to any medical advancements for humans (Humane Research Australia, 2016). This inhumane treatment of animals makes one wonder about the ethicality of these animal research experimentations. Animal testing is a global ethical issue because it negates the dignity of animals. The vast majority of animals experience levels of suffering either because of the environment in which they are kept and or the procedures performed upon them (Healey, J. 2015, p. 34). In these experiments, animals could be subjected to a variety of tests including: injections; exposure to radiation; organ transplants or removal; inhalation of toxic gases; or forced to enter distressing environments in order to explore their reactions (Cruelty Free International, 2018). The purpose of these experiments is often to better understand the systems, functions or processes in which living organisms such as ourselves commonly perform. A survey of 987 British citizens revealed that 71% agreed that animal testing was necessary yet only 20% believed it should not be banned (Magee, C. 2016). A similar survey conducted in the United States found that 75% of the public approve of animal testing yet when public were told that these animals might experience pain or distress and re–asked the same question, less than 50% approved (Mcmillan, F. Of the many items that help enhance the horror of the Nazi Holocaust, one of the most notable is what it had of systematic and bureaucratic. It is not strange the image of the Nazi leader quoting his favorite poet while sending to death hundreds of people, belying the myth that culture and education make people better. • 32. A Short Note On Buddhism Essay Final Term Paper Buddhism Have you ever wondered how meditation, kindness, and suffering can help you reach true peace? Today, I will be informing you on how these concepts as well as a few others play an important role in reaching none other than, Nirvana. What I am going to be discussing is one of the great Asian philosophical and religious traditions, Buddhism. Those who practice Buddhism believe that life goes on and on in many reincarnations or rebirths. The eternal hope for all who practice Buddhism is that through reincarnation one comes back into successively better lives; until one achieves the goal of being free from pain and suffering and not having to come back again. This wheel of rebirth, known as Samsara, goes on forever until one achieves Nirvana. The Buddhist definition of Nirvana is "the highest state of spiritual bliss, as absolute immortality through absorption of the soul into itself, but preserving individuality." Birth is not the beginning and death is not the end. This cycle of life has no beginning and can go on forever without an end. The ultimate goal for every Buddhist, Nirvana, is to accomplish total enlightenment and liberation. By achieving this goal, one can be liberated from the never–ending round of birth, death, and rebirth. Transmigration, the Buddhist cycle of birth, death, and rebirth, does not involve the reincarnation of a spirit, but only the rebirth of a consciousness containing the seeds of good and evil deeds. • 33. Persuasive Essay On Animals Everyday nearly twenty six million meat birds die. That's 300 chickens a second. These chickens who are basically babies, hang by their feet in blood splattered shackles. Their lives have barely begun. With crimson feathers, they are forced to stare at the incarnadine walls. Their only reminder of family, friends, and strangers, it's a promise of their future. Barely alive chickens who have been thrown, kicked or stomped upon, litter the floor gasping for air in the ammonia filled room. About twenty eight thousand cows die everyday. Cows have their limbs strewn around to decorate the floor, smears of red matching the kill floor's stained color. Deep, low bellows echoing of the walls signaling the cows' distress when they smell the blood of their friends and now they know what's next. The drain overflows with the almost black fluid as a cow's throat is slit, its eyes wide while all twelve gallons of its blood comes cascading out while the rest of them hang from bloody chains protruding from the ceiling. These animals did not choose the fate that they currently hold. Colosseum is located in the heart of Rome, attracting millions of people every year enchanted by its astonishing architecture and history. The Colosseum is the largest stone–built amphitheater ever built in the world measuring 190 by 155 meters and was commissioned in the 1st century AD by the emperors of the Flavian Dynasty as a gift to the citizens of Rome. Before the Flavian amphitheater was built, Vespasian is the emperor of the Roman Empire from 69 to 79 A.D and he was the ruler and leader of action at that time. Before he became the glorious emperor though, four consecutive emperors commit suicide for being greedy and vicious leaders. People were shattered lives in poverty and therefore, Vespasian must think and provide something that will get the attention of people and to avoid rebellion in which he did and succeed by providing them a big permanent arena to stage different types of entertainment, and as a result, he gains popularity and have boosted his wealth and power. Persuasive Essay On Animal Abuse Now you're a strayed four–legged pet that has found an easy escape route from a pet abuser who abused and neglected you, communicating in a strange language that other #Pets understand as people either walk on by or stop and stare to only wish you could talk in human language. Returning back to reality after walking in the paws of a pet, with this in mind think of how animals live on all fours and walk by us each day showing love in their eye to bring a sense of companionship to a pet lover that can make one feel less alone as they provide comfort to us during times of suffering and pain. However, in spite of the needs that are being exchanged between most pet lover's and their furry–legged friends, there's this silent cry of injustice going on in many animals. 'Will you listen to what the voiceless are trying to say?' In fact, according to the Humane Society, "the abused animals are most often reported and around 70.1% involve dogs, 20.9% involve cats and 24.1% involve other animals. Nonetheless, just like the main and minors, and even the extras, animals are actors as well. However, there is major controversy about the use of animals in any entertainment. Here are some key terms defined by the American Humane Association (AHA): Animal is any sentient creature, including birds, fish, reptiles, and insects. Harmed is physical injury or damaged; having had pain or loss or suffering inflicted. It was made apparent that director, Michael Cimino did not allow any personnel from AHA onto the set. Nonetheless, major allegations started to spread about how the animals were used during production. Four dead horses, a horses killed in a dynamite explosion and an injured rider, a horses bleeding from its neck, actual cockfights, chickens being decapitated, disemboweled cows, and bleeding out cows to use their blood instead of stage blood on the actors. Both the film's producer, Joanne Carelli and the head wrangler, Ugland claim that the allegations were false. With all of this a lawsuit came out, the owner of one of the horses filed against the producers, the director and Partisan Productions and the horse wrangler. The owner quoted that there was "wrongful injury and breach of contract for willfully depriving her Arabian gelding of proper care" and also, "the severe physical and behavioral trauma and disfigurement of the horse" (Humane Hollywood). The case settled out of court and AHA, who were banned from the film's production, protested against the film, releasing the statements of animal cruelty on the set and wanting people to take part in the boycott for the film. AHA planned picket lines outside movie theaters in Hollywood as well did other local humane societies did around the country. This major controversy surrounding the film lead to the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and the Alliance of Motion Picture & Television Producers (AMPTP) to justifiable approve for AHA to overlook any animals in entertainment media. A dramatic presentation should be an act of initiation during which the spectator will be awed and even terrified ––and to such a degree that he will lose control of his reason. пЃ¬"All true feeling is in reality untranslatable. • 38. The Pros And Cons Of Animal Testing The use of animals to test medicines, cosmetics and new drugs has been a controversial debate for years. It is estimated that every year, the United States alone uses 26 million animals to test commercial products and medical treatments to determine the different toxicity rates of drugs that will potentially be used by humans (https://speakingofresearch.com/facts/statistics/). The use of animal testing has been proven time and time again to be ineffective and it also is a practice of animal cruelty; many animals are thought to be companions to humans and do not have the ability to speak for themselves. Many different animals are subject to these tests such as hamsters, rabbits, fish, monkeys, dogs, cats, mice and rats have been used for decades as tools for understanding the effects of drugs, medical experiments and even surgery. A multitude of the tests performed on animals are for diseases that animals do not even get, so they are created in a laboratory as an attempt to replicate the disease in animals. Humans are much more complex than animals and do not have the emotional, psychological or hereditary genes that humans do, making the tests performed on animals inconclusive and misleading. Although animal testing has provided some advances in medicine, it is inhumane and cruel, an expensive method of research and not an accurate way of testing the effects of drugs in humans which can lead to horrible side effects, liver failure and even death. However, they should have named "Confusion" as the usurper of the throne because it is the only force really in control of the Riverside Theatre's performance of Macbeth at the Festival Stage in Lower City Park. Multiple aspects of the play were very vague or in downright disarray: Setting, genre, stage design, and even casting choice. The production was attempting to make a new spin on centuries–old play, but they ultimately lost sight of original entirely. Setting, the most basic element of the play, is entirely undefinable in the production. The characters wore costumes resembling World War II Soviet military uniforms and dresses taken from a 1940s Macys advertisement. However, the play still refers to the Scottish crown and Macbeth's "castle." In addition, the stage music does little to clarify the setting. In some scenes, the background music sounds like that of a traditional Highland dance with bagpipes blaring. However, in other scenes there are tribal drums and marimbas. Also, the actors had neither Russian nor Scottish accents; they were all Midwestern. Ultimately, if the director wants to change the setting of the original play, they need to make it a complete change. It should not seem as if the audience is partly in the Soviet Union and partly in Scotland. The director must make the choice and fully commit to it.
