Turtles are in danger because of unwise decisions of mankind, including buying turtles
taken out of the wild and greed. So let’s take a step towards helping these creatures’
live safe and long lives!
 Hatchlings are newly hatched turtles. Today, a lot of these turtle hatchlings are
victims of smuggling. American Tortoise Rescue took in 24 of them last year rescued on
their way to China. Buying turtles can contribute to smuggling.
 Attacks from dogs, egrets, raccoons and other predators can cause injury and even
death. Protect your turtles with solar electric fencing, an over the pond chain link cage,
fences that they cannot see through or dig under, and motion detecting lights.
 Keep your turtles safe at home and those in the wild by not leaving garbage, food
waste, nut shells, cigarette butts and other harmful substances behind. Use a trash can
or take picnic waste home with you.
 Participate in events and forums that discuss how to help turtles. Join up with
rescues to donate money or supplies, as well as volunteer. See more here
