Happy Meal Lab
Purpose: When conducting this experiment we were trying to figure out the types of nutrients were
in a McDonald's Happy Meal.
Background: Before starting this experiment we all had a general sense of was what is in a
Mcdonald's Happy Meal. We could assume the main nutrient in each part of the meal. Using the
information of what type of nutrients and organic molecules we were able to suspect what was in the
Happy Meal. There are three types of Organic molecules, examples of them are protein, fats/oils,
starch and monosaccharides. Proteins provide structure, movement, and energy. Fats/oils are used
for long term energy storage, insulation and cushioning. Monosaccharides and starch are both used
mainly for energy storage
Hypothesis: Using this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then we added 5 drops of Lugol's solution and recorded results.
Discussion: The results of the class were:
Burger: Positive for fats/oils, negative for all the other tests, three groups got positive for protein.
The data says that the burger has a low amount of protein in it. When we know that it has a higher
amount of protein. The data proves that the burger does have fat/oil in it. The lack of positive results
for protein was because the H2O/burger solution had too much H2O to get a consistent result. Not
all the groups could get chunks of burger for the test, proving that the burger was to diluted.
Fries: The groups got positive for starch and fat/oil. Proving that fries do have starch and fat/oil in
them like I predicted in my hypothesis. Fries are greasy because they fry them in oil which is a type
of fat/oil which is why it came out as positive.
Bun: All eight of the groups got positive results for starch. Seven groups got positive for
monosaccharides and protein. This proves that my hypothesis that starch was in the bun was correct.
The other results might of been contaminated by the burger, because some of the burger residue
could have gotten onto the

The Word Culture Impacts Each And Every Individual...
The word culture impacts each and every individual differently. For me, my culture is associated
with pride and joy; for others, cultural heritage can remind a person of pain and suffering. All
cultural experiences vary depending on where people grew up and the amount of value placed on
cultural traditions within families.
Most people can easily describe their culture; many simply state, "I'm Italian and Irish." However,
being a third generation American, I've truly become a melting pot. I am 1/16th Scottish, 1/16th
British, 1/4th Polish, 1/4th Italian and 3/8th's German. My grandfather on my mom's side is one
hundred percent Italian, while my grandmother on my mom's side was one hundred percent Polish.
This makes my mom fifty percent Italian and fifty percent Polish, which is pretty typical of a second
generation American. My grandfather on my dad's side was one hundred percent German, while my
grandmother was 1/2 German, 1/4th Scottish, and 1/4th British. Since my grandmother, who was
only a first generation American already had three different ethnicities, my culture heritage started to
become slightly a–typical from your traditional American. My father, who was 3/4th German, 1/8th
Scottish and 1/8th British, lacked any similarities with my mom's heritage. This made me part of
five different cultures. I value and appreciate each of my cultures just as much as the next, however,
the most influential grandparent on my cultural identity has been my Italian grandfather so

Case Study : ' Happy Family, Happy Me
Ba Da Ba Ba Ba, I'm Not Lovin' It
McDonalds is arguably one of the most iconic and fastest growing fast food chains in the world.
According to their website, they operate over 36,000 restaurants in more than 100 countries
(McDonalds para 1). The company released an ad in Malaysia titled "Happy Family, Happy Me."
The ad depicts a joyous family eating in a McDonalds restaurant. A happy meal box and a Big Mac
box are staged on the table as a young girl gleefully feeds her father a French fry and her mother
looks on with a smile. A subscript of the ad even reads, "Keeping everyone in the family satisfied
can be easy. With a little help from us, it can be fun too." The ad tries to portray eating at
McDonalds as such an enjoyable and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ad also targets children by mentioning the Playland and by saying that the happy meal "comes
with a free toy." They try to persuade kids to want to come back by revealing that a new toy is
released every week. Food ads try to appeal to children because if they start eating their products at
an early age, it is likely that they will remain a customer for life. McDonalds attracts children with
their playgrounds, their complementary toys, and even their friendly clown mascot, Ronald
McDonald. Every time that child returns to McDonalds, their liking and craving for the food is
deepened until its consumption becomes a necessity into and throughout adulthood. The ad uses a Z
formation to draw in its audience. The first thing that drew me into the picture is the joyous image of
the girl feeding her father a French fry. My eyes then move down diagonally, following the happy
meal box and observing the rest of the food items on the table, like the Big Mac box, the French fry
packages, and the drink cups. Then my eyes come across the title, "Happy Family, Happy Me,"
before coming across a paragraph that explains how McDonalds helps to create happy families. My
eyes then trail right, across the bottom of the ad, to see the new chicken sandwich happy meal that
they are advertising. My eyes have already

Summary: Always Hungry
Always Hungry
College is great; you're starting over in a new place, gaining new experiences, and making new
friends. Only thing is you had to leave mom or dad's maybe even grandma's fantastic cooking
behind. In addition to that cooking for ourselves isn't an option many students have due to money
and the fact most dorms don't have kitchens. Therefore students are stuck with what the dining hall
offers. Although a variety of meal plans are available to the students none of them are worth buying
if the food is old or it's the same thing that is offered daily. Here at The University of South Alabama
our dining hall lacks a variety of fresh and healthy food. I believe the best solution would be to
allow the students to have an input on what

Essay About School Lunches
The Bad Effect School Lunches Have
"What the heck is on my plate," all around the nation, kids are saying exactly that, when the cooks
of schools are plopping down blobs of food on their plate. The USDA has made new regulations to
what the schools can serve their kids. This is a problem that schools don't realize, they are causing.
These so called healthy meals are just being wasted, put down the garbage shoot by kids, who refuse
to eat the muck they give us. Therefore, these new regulations they gave to schools is causing
problems, the food the USDA is supplying to the school is being thrown down the drain, and this
problem is not helping obesity.
Recently, the USDA has supplied schools with new food that they claim is healthy. This new rule ...

Let's face it kids are not happy with these new changes being made. Half of the lunches serve
nowadays are very questionable as to whether you can eat it. To the USDA, look where your food is
going; it is going down the garbage just wasted because no one wants to eat mystery meat.
Another reason the USDA claims they have made these changes is because, they feel it will help
with obesity. They can't help with that if students will not eat it. Most students take one look at their
trays and think, "yuck, what's this, the ground up food from yesterday?" If kids will not eat these
nasty lunches how are they helping? This growing problem is not the cause of school lunches being
too fatty, but when some kids get home they binge eat, causing an unhealthy weight gain.
In conclusion these new regulations are causing many problems in an average student's diet. Instead
of helping our diets, they are making them worst. We should take a stand and help them realize that,
we need to find a happy medium when it comes to our options at lunch. These new school lunches
are causing problems, being thrown down the drain, and does not help with

Why We Should Stay Trim And Fit
Do you want to stay trim and fit, but also really enjoy dining out? Or, does your work or travel
schedule leave you eating in restaurants multiple times per week? If so, you 're not alone. Nearly
60% of North Americans report eating out at least once per week. I believe that the whole point of
being healthy is to enjoy your life more, thus it makes no sense to stop doing the things you enjoy in
order to be healthy. The good news is that, with a bit of planning and a bit of know–how, you can
stick to a healthy eating routine and still enjoy meals out.
Your plan of attack will depend on a few different factors:
1. Why are you out to eat? Are you there because you 're on a work trip and you just need to eat, or
are you out to enjoy time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With that being said, having a few strategies can help, and I 'm here to help!
Before you go out:
1. Eat a small snack prior to going out, or at least ensure that you are not ravenous. If you are too
hungry, especially to the point of feeling irritable, your desire to eat anything and everything can
easily override your desire to choose a healthy option.
2. Decide ahead of time. If you are able to, research the menu online to see what the restaurant
offers. It 's easier to stick to a plan that you made ahead of time rather than to try to decide on the
fly. If your plan is to indulge in whatever you want; then go for it; but decide ahead of time.
3.Change your mindset. Remind yourself that you 're there to enjoy time with your friends or
spouse, and that you happen to be eating food. Enjoy your food, but remember that it 's just food.
At the restaurant:
1. Start with water. Cold water, hot water, lemon water, soda water– there 's so many choices! If you
choose to order a drink, enjoy something on the lighter fare such as a glass of wine, or alcohol
mixed with soda water. Fancy drinks such as margaritas and long island ice teas can pack upwards
of 600 calories per glass.
2. Skip the appetizers. Appetizer is not synonymous with lower calorie. In fact, many appetizers

Freezer Meal Research Paper
Title: Freezer Meals
Introduction
Its 3'oclock, the kids will be home from school soon, you have to take one to basketball, the other to
soccer practice, and feed your spouse when they arrive home. You don't want to spend hours
cooking a healthy meal but what choice do you have? The children need to eat something healthy
and your spouse will want a hot meal on the table when they arrive home after working a grueling 8
hour shift. You look in the pantry, everything located there is not very healthy or will take hours to
prepare and make. You could run down to the local hamburger fast food place, but the food they
serve is not very good, and definitely not healthy, also after a while it becomes very expensive if you
were to do this every time you had a day like this. Then something reminds you, there are bread
buns in the bread box, then there is that pulled pork BBQ that you made way to much of two months
ago sitting in a baggie in the freezer. There is your dinner! The family will be happy and you can
throw it on the stove and cook a quick meal.

where you're able to prepare several healthy (or non–healthy) foods and put them in your deep
freeze (or refrigerator/freezer combo) for a day later or months later. You can take these meals out

center, of our gatherings, is food. My favorite meal, I would have to say, is my mom's Green Bean
Casserole, for Thanksgiving dinner. My mom's Thanksgiving Green Bean Casserole is prepared
with love, taste like perfection, and is enjoyed in a fun and crazy atmosphere. My mom is a great

Mcdonald's Organizational Behavior
McDonald's and Its Crisis
What should a company do when its core product is considered "unhealthy" or even "harmful" by
the public? Is it even possible for such a company survive and thrive; or will it have to shut down its
business? McDonald's fast food has for a long time been considered unhealthy by the public. In
recent years, the health conscious trends have become increasingly popular. Moreover, many
scientific studies and findings have surfaced and successfully confirmed that children's increasing
intake of fast food, which often contains high sodium content, sugars, saturated fats, and calories,
for a long period of time would lead to childhood obesity. Moreover, obese children have a much
higher risk of many health ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, the corporation was heavily condemned by the public for exploiting children market
and causing childhood obesity. Indeed, McDonald's has been using advertising which mainly
targeted children. As a result, according to the survey to American school student in 1996, 96
percent of all children could identify Ronald McDonald (Cohen, 2011, p8–5). How was McDonald's
able to achieve the above result? McDonald's children marketing strategies were very simple but
extremely effective––to give small toys as a treatment to children in order to appeal to their
interests. With the repeated uses of this psychological influencing tactic, children would
subconsciously make a connection between McDonald's and toys. Therefore, children, who were
under the influences of McDonald's marketing strategies, could not help to think of McDonald's
whenever thinking of toys.
The plaintiff, Monet Parham, a California mother of two, sued McDonald's overly exploiting
children market on Oct 2010 (Dan, 2011).She claimed that McDonald's gave out alluring toys that
come with the meals in order to lure kids into unhealthy diet. The mother also stated that
"McDonald's make it so much harder to say no to her kids when they are really want those toys"
(York, 2010). The CSPI (Center for Science in the Public Interest) confirmed that "kids do not have
the cognitive maturity to understand the persuasive intent of advertising" (York, 2010). Later on, the
ban of serving Happy Meals

Fast Food Dangers
Dangers Of Fast Food Fast food is delicious, but is it deadly? Over the years the fast food industry
has made larger proportions to meet the growing demand. The industry thrives off of competition,
and is constantly trying to one up each other. Places like Wendy's, Burger King, McDonald's, and
Taco Bell provide large amounts of food for a bargain. The creation of dollar menus and five dollar
meal deals has influenced more people to dine out. According to University Hospitals, 44% of
Americans eat out at least once a week, every day 34% of children consume fast food, and children
get 12% of their calories from fast food (North Ohio Heart). Fast food is taking over people's diets.
The 2004 Documentary Super Size Me talks about the truth behind the fast food industry, but mostly
McDonald's. Morgan Spurlock, the producer and the man doing the experiment, decided that he
wanted to see what kind of effect that McDonald's could have on the human body. He decides to go
on a thirty day quest, where he only eats McDonald's for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. His reason for
this experiment was to expose the results eating fast food has on your body. Fast food is a big
contributor to obesity, high cholesterol, heart failure, liver failure, etc. Spurlock also mentions how
advertising is how places like McDonald's persuade people to eat at their restaurants. By placing
billboards on the side of highways and

If you were offered McDonald's or Subway during school, what would you say? Duh, you would
say yes. Rather than that nasty cafeteria meat, which you don't even know what animal it comes

All the foods that I don't like are basically served as a school lunch, like chicken and cheese mixed
together. That's putting one of my favorite foods, and my least favorite food together, and calling it a

have been NASTY!!
Teachers also might say, well this is very unhealthy for you. Sure, it's not very healthy, but that's
why we should also have a salad bar. My school has a salad bar anyways, so we could just keep that,
and that would be our healthy food for the day. When I go to lunch at school, I always get croutons,
because that is the only thing that I will eat. It's not good for my health, but it's much better than
eating food that is going to make me sick. Eating school lunch is kind of like getting food poisoning.
Nasty, and makes you throw up.

It was a late night and I was bored, so I decided to go for a drive. I did not know that this boredness
could lead to something so bad. I jumped into my car, realized it was low on gas and thought, I

As I traveled down the road I get to work on everyday, I noticed an off road that I had not traveled

light post. The road went on for a couple of miles and then I hit a fork in the road. I thought, maybe

I went to the front to unlock it and it was not opening either. I finally came to the conclusion, I had

So, now I had to enter the house as there was no way i would be able to survive without a jacket in
this weather. I slowly approach the old white house. It looked like it had been built a couple million
years ago and was in the center of a war. As I began to get closer,I realized the door had been kicked
in and that this place might have someone else in it. I made my first onto the stairs to get on the
porch. The old wood flexed as I stepped on it. On my second step my hands started to sweat. I
became nervous and scared that this night or for however long I would be here, would not just be a
walk in the park.
The porch was in relatively good condition but I had to get inside soon, frostbite would be fast
approaching. I knew that the house would not be warm like my current house because it was not
heated and had many broken windows were cold air could get in. I then entered the house.
Everytime I took a step, I made sure it was safe because i did not know how safe this would be. I
explored the whole bottom stairs and only noticed one thing out of the ordinary. The oven smelled
like fresh cookies and was
warmer than everything else around it. I thought this is weird but did not think anything else about
it.
Then it was time to go upstairs. The third stair was not in the best condition

Diet Communication Center ( Dcc ) Observations Essay
Diet Communication Center (DCC) Observations:
During our DCC observation, we had the opportunity to engage with Curtis Thomas, Yolanda
Wright, and Josephine Rose. Each of these employees taught us about the different operations in
DCC. First, Curtis showed us how to run SmartSubs for the evening meal. He explained to us that
he addresses the conflicts that arise from fluid–restricted patients. If the order says, "No replacement
found," Curtis went back into Computrition to manually put items back in using the "Fluid
Restriction Guide." Next, he printed the tally guide report for each line. Each line had 3 reports: hot
food, cold food, and loader. Afterwards, we met with Yolanda to observe her printing the first set of
tray tickets for the evening meal. She mentioned that whoever works the early morning shift in DCC
is responsible for printing out the queue list, updates and late trays using Vista software. Once she
printed the tray tickets, she cut each page into 3 and ordered the tickets based on each unit. Yolanda
mentioned that each meal has a different color pen specifying the number of diet orders for each unit
to avoid any confusion. If there were more than 20 orders for one unit, she would put the excess into
the next set because the meal carts only hold a maximum of 20 trays. Ms. Rose told us that she is
currently responsible for running the select menus for CLC, SCI, and 6D. DCC explained that diet
changes are typically ordered by doctors and dietitians through CPRS

Children And Advertising : The Impact Of Advertising To...
Advertising to children began in the 1970s, marketers decided to advertise to children because they
can be heavily influenced by commercials (Wilcox, Kunkel, Cantor, Dowrick, Linn, Palmer, 2004).
Some believe there are ethical concerns with targeting children, because they are so easily
persuaded. Others such as Lalley, senior vice president at Lid–Leo (company specializes in accounts
for McDonald's and Nintendo), believe the commercials are not manipulating children to make
purchases, because commercials are just bringing awareness of the product, not convincing children
that they need the item. Children or parents have the decision to purchase or not to purchase the
product (Campbell, Davis–Packard, 2000). Marketing to children has become increasingly more
popular. Businesses spend $17 billion annually to market to this target group, since children under
twelve years old influence $500 billion purchases annually, giving companies a remarkable return
on investment (Horovitz, 2006). There are several mediums that companies may use to target
children to purchase products which include television, radio, internet, books, cell phone
applications, and in store tactics. Television Advertisers use television as a medium to target
children, especially during Saturday morning cartoons on popular children networks such as
Nickelodeon, PBS Kids, Disney Channel, and Cartoon Network. Children can view up to 40,000
commercials annually on television, most advertisements that are

The Spanish Cuisine Of Spain
The culture of Spain is very diverse and lively. It is filled with beautiful colors like the dresses of the

The flamenco was the passionate dance of romance. Finally, the Paso Doble was a simple one step
dance. Most of the literature we talked about was poetry, prose, or drama. For one of our units my
teacher made us write out our own fairytale, and we had to read it to the class. One of my favorite
websites I found for information was commisceo–global, and they explained the cultural aspects of
Spain. 94% of Spaniards are Roman Catholic, and usually in many small towns, the biggest,
grandest building in the town is the church. Also, most holidays were created for religious reasons,
like Three King's Day (January 6) or Holy Week (late March–early April). When María was in
Minnesota she did not go to church on Sundays, but she still participated in our local youth group.
The next cultural aspect this website focused on was family and gender. It explained that most
families consisted of immediate and extended, which helps with financial stability and raising
children. Children were also one of the topics focused on. They say that children were the prized
possessions of the families. They usually started school around 6 and went to school until they were
16. After school, they could either join the workforce, further their educations in high school, or do
vocational training. Adult men and women had their own roles while their children were in school.
Although they shared the responsibilities of parenting and house work, women were usually in

Summary Of Cafeteria Wars By Rebecca Zissou
Did you know that kids should eat about 1,600 to 2,600 calories a day? in the article "Cafeteria
Wars" written by Rebecca Zissou is about people debating if they should get rid of junk food in
middle schools. A lot of people say it's fattening and not good for children. But they also say that it's
a waste of money to get rid of junk food.
One perspective is that schools should keep junk food. First, junk food is a waste of produce. About
$3.8 million dollars worth of produce is thrown away every day in schools. According to the article
schools say, "Asking for a few small changes to the rules to help schools serve healthy meals that
keep hungry students nourished and happy." Another perspective is that food costs have also gone

Managing Public Relations: Case Study of Happy Meals at...
Happy Meals
Introduction
For many firms, public relations are one of the tools they are utilizing to promote themselves to
customers. In most cases, this is used as way to help standout in minds of consumers. As a result, a
wide variety of corporations are utilizing this as a part of their strategy in maintaining this favorable
image. In the case of McDonalds, the firm has been facing tremendous challenge associated with
their menu. This is because, they are known for serving foods that are considered to be high in
cholesterol and fats. While at the same time, the overall amounts of childhood obesity have been
increasing exponentially. According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), this problem has
become so large that 17% or 12.5 million children in the US are considered to be obese. ("Over
Weight and Obesity," 2012)
One of the first places that are blamed for contributing to the problem is those restaurants that are
known for serving this food to children. The McDonalds happy meal is very popular among parents
and children. However, the contents inside are known for containing high amounts of fat, cholesterol
and sugar. These kinds of substances have been shown to be one of the primary causes that are
contributing to obesity. This has forced McDonalds to make changes that are giving customers more
of a choice. To fully understand what is happening requires looking at how fast food restaurants
have adjusted their menu to reflect public opinion and the way these

Chick Fil A Essay
Chick–fil–A is known to be closed on Sundays. That is a policy that they have started with and are
continuing to pursue. No matter the back lash they have gotten for it, they have stood behind their
beliefs. To make a compromise with the owners of Chick–fil–A, their morals and ethics, and the
customer, they should change their policy to being open the first and third Sunday of each month.
This way their morals are being kept and the customers wants are being fulfilled, all while keeping it
at a happy medium. I can remember, not only myself, but others going to Chick–fil–A on multiple
occasions on a Sunday only to realize they're closed when they get there, we just simply forgot.

In today's society, it would be most beneficial for Chick–fil–A to be open on Sunday. Not to mention
the sales they could record, but almost every other fast food restaurant is open seven days a week.
Just about all employers will tell you that you work for the customer, and with Chick–fil–A finding
this happy medium, they can do so more cooperatively. Economically wise, it would turn into a
boom. It could help propel the economy as far as the fast food industry goes. The weekend seems to
be when people take their families out to eat for Sunday lunch or whatever the occasion may be.
With Chick–fil–A being open a few Sunday's out of the month, it would allow them to go to a
family–oriented restaurant, like Chick–fil–A. This only goes hand in hand with it because Sunday is
also considered a family day. They could increase their own sales while driving local economies by
being open on these few days. Employment impacts would be very noticeable I believe. It would
allow employees to get more hours which would allow them to make more money. This in turn
would help the restaurant turn over more money as

My Jump Experience Essay
It was on a school break back in elementary school in 4th grade. I was happy we were going to my
cousin's house me and him usually play x–box and stay up really late. The first night was fun we
played x–box like usual, stayed up really late and went to bed. In the morning I went to go eat cereal
and went outside to the trampoline. This is where the bad things start to happen.
My cousin thought it was a great idea for me to jump off of his deck at his house. So me being
stupid agreed to it and I thought it might be funny. My cousins deck is really high up. The stairs that
lead up to the deck are very steep because of how high it is. So as I am walking up the stairs and
look down I realized this might not be such a great idea and I start thinking about why I am still up
there, however my stupidity took over and I kept climbing up the stairs until I got to the top. The
Atlantic quoted "We are a few fries short of a happy meal."
So now I am at the top about to jump and from up there it looks like I am jumpi+ng off a building.
To my cousin it does not look like that high of a jump, but for me I am terrified. I hear my cousin
say "Jump Dylan", and now I know that he is becoming impatient with me. Correspondingly I jump
off because I got tired of hearing jump Dylan and as I hit the floor I get the feeling where it is hard

Elbows Ad Analysis
Elbows on the Table If you were to look at Barilla's ad for their "Elbows" pasta noodles, you would
see a table full of children laughing and enjoying their food. The ad is effective because it appeals to
every parent's hopes for their child's happiness. Consumers believe the product will make them
happy because it depicts a picture–perfect life. There is green grass in the background, with a dark
area that could be a forest. It is a serene setting, seemingly out of reach of the stifles of urban life. A
recipe for a dish made with Barilla's Elbows, and their Marinara sauce, is placed in the top left–hand
corner. There are children sitting at a table; each with their own plate of Barilla Elbows with Barilla
marina sauce, and a cup of water. Each child is quite photogenic, and has a goofy smile plastered on
his or her face. On the bottom of this ad there are also realistic depictions of the brand's products.
Next to these is the product's logo, along with its trademark, "The Choice of Italy". This ad seeks to

A simple day of friends, laughter, and delicious food. The ad is straightforward, with little to distract
the viewer except for the main image of children enjoying Barilla products, and the recipe for their
pasta dish. The simple design echoes the simplicity that Barilla promises to bring to their customers.
A simple recipe means that you can spend less time prepping for a meal, and more time enjoying the
meal; therefore it also allows for more time spent enjoying life. Simplicity allows for blissful
memories, like the children frolicking with their friends. Barilla seizes attention with phrases like,
"Recipe for Wonderful," and "a table full of belly laughs". In addition to its product making life
simpler, it also uses different child models to show that Barilla products bring people

Diversity For Everyone
All throughout the world, humans have enjoyed eating food, but in the United States, it is crucial
that the range of options stays in the marketplace. Diversity is a range of values or options laid down
for choosing. In this world, people cannot help but see all the differences around them. Especially in
food, it is important to continue seeing these differences as less and less diversity is starting to
become a problem. More diverse options are better than restricted ones. If this is removed, or even
reduced, there will be huge complications (#10). Diversity must stay if people want happy lives.
Here are several reasons why.
Simply being human, means that people need a source of energy to live. This energy is received
from consuming plants ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Removing this diversity would make the fun past time of having something to eat, a boring task to
complete. It is one of the humankind's most entertaining pastimes from watching a ball game to
having a nice meal as a family. Life simply would not have been the same if there were no diversity.
Cultures would look similar as their diets would have little effect on them over time. Many would
have similar problems alike because of the lack of vitamins and minerals needed for food around the
world. This is the main reason why there are import and export policies around the world even to

Why Schools Should Keep The Weight And Health Of Children
This is not entirely true. Many students can get out of gym class. At most schools, activities such as
band are counted towards gym credits. Band is not even a sport; students simply sit and play an
instrument that usually requires little movement. Standardized tests show that after students
participated in some type of physical activity, they were much more attentive. Because students
would understand the lessons much more, the time taken away from class to participate in gym
would be well worth it (Taras). Schools need to require activities that are more physical in order to
promote healthy lifestyles.
Physical activity alone cannot completely help the weight and health of children. A well balanced
diet is the key to a healthy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If students do not care for what is served, schools are required to offer peanut butter sandwiches.
Fredericktown only offers Uncrustables. They are tiny little sandwiches with no crust that are
smaller than the palm of a hand. These are froze most of the time also so students cannot eat them
either. The only time students are offered healthy options or forced to take at least one vegetable or
fruit is when the school is expecting a health inspection. This system is absolutely absurd and unfair
to the children who have no other options other than to buy the school lunches.
The government has tried to improve the school lunch systems a little bit. The Healthy, Hunger–Free
Kids Act began in 2012. This required meals to be lower in fat, calories, and sodium, and have more
lean proteins, fruits, vegetables, and whole grains (Murphy). Unfortunately, this act also caused the
food to be not as bland and un–enjoyable. Schools have noticed that most kids either throw away
their meals or simply just pack their lunch (Murphy). The Healthy, Hunger–Free Kids Act must be
revised to allow the meals to be edible or at least enjoyable to the students. Just because the food is
slightly healthier now, does not mean that the students will eat it. If they have the option of healthy
food but it is unsatisfying, they will probably choose to either buy foods from vending machines or
just pack their own unhealthy processed food from home. The

becoming a legal grown up. Managing these things can be tricky but is not impossible! Although

Don T Worry Be Happy By Bobby Mcferrin
Happy as You Want to Be
Almost everyone have heard the hit single 'Don't Worry, Be Happy' by Bobby McFerrin. The song
has a very catchy way of conveying its message of being happy to everyone. Bobby Mcferiin's
simple message surely made a lot of people by telling them not to worry.
Living a happy, resilient and optimistic life is wonderful, and is also good for your health. Being
happy actually protects you from the stresses of life. Stress is linked to top causes of death such as
heart disease, cancer and stroke.
One of the better things ever said is – 'The only thing in life that will always remain the same is

A religious connection is also recommended. Being part of a religious group with its singing,

Mcdonald's Happy Meal Image Advertisement : The Ad Of...
McDonald's was created in April 15, 1955 at Illinois, Chicago by Ray Kroc who is known for being
a seller of Prince Castle brand. However, in 1979, McDonald's open their first Happy Meal which
was a small box with designs of hamburger, cheeseburger, and French fries in colors of red, green,
and other colors. It specifically targets kids mind because kids at a young age are attracted to bright
colors. McDonald's companies knew this and they began the Happy Meal. McDonald's Happy Meal

McDonald's marketers convince ethnicity groups especially by showing images in advertisements to
boys and girls in a young age in their specific color of choice. For instance, ""McDonald's is
typically strong among Hispanic consumers because kids are an important member of the dining
party, more so than in general–market consumers', and, 'Hispanic families are also more likely to eat
with others in the restaurant as a "dining occasion vs. a fuel stop, than are general–market
consumers'", according to Bob Sandelman, president of restaurant researcher Sandelman &
Associates. This means that marketers from McDonald's knows that a Hispanic family place special
importance to their children more than themselves; therefore, marketers of McDonald's tries to
convince them through advertisement that includes Spanish characters in case if kids or parents does
not fully understand the English language. It also seems that

The Benefits Of Family Eating Together
How often do you eat meals with your family? Only 53% of American families with kids eat
together six to seven days a week. Many online sources such as The Atlantic state that "family
dinners build relationships, and help kids do better in school" (Delistraty). There are many benefits
of regularly eating together for at least one meal a day: Family members have the opportunity to talk
to each other; children are more likely to be more well–rounded, eat healthier and have a positive
self–esteem; children who eat regularly with their families are less likely to drink, smoke or use
drugs. Families that do not eat together are leading their kids into a dangerous plight, by not
showing them you care. When families sit for a meal together, it creates strong bonds between the
family, as there is a reason to communicate and take the time to reflect on the day with the rest of
your family.
Having conversations during dinner allows parents to teach their children important communication
skills and develop strong bonds. Children learn how to listen and are given the chance to talk about
their day and express their own opinions. An added benefit is that family conversations expose
children to many new words, which helps increase their vocabulary. Another advantage of having
family meals is that you can communicate without having the interference of phones, television, or
electronics. In some families, it may seem impossible to get everyone to sit down and have a meal
together.

Cultural Difference In American Culture
While studying in America, I have encountered a meal problem with my host–family because of
cultural difference. In China, lunch is the most important and delicious meal for the day. Thus, I was
so picky about the food I ate for lunch. However, my host–family neither knew about my culture nor
asked me about what kinds of lunch I liked, insisting on making sandwiches for a day to two weeks.
One day, I finally had the courage to tell her that I do not want sandwiches anymore; she was
unexpectedly confused and told me that sandwiches were typical for American lunch. After that, I
was so upset and started to hate sandwiches by throwing them away and complained about my host
family to my mom. And, my school life was also filled with unhappy and

Sometimes it's even possible to combine one or two recipes from different shows to create your own
original recipe. All it really takes is a little creativity on your part, and of course the desire to be
healthy. Of course this is not to say that your favorite cooking show is doing this intentionally. You
have to be willing to have a little self control and not go overboard when they show you those
appetizing recipes. The bottom line is that you are responsible for your own health, not the food
networks, and cooking shows. So basically you are the only one who can put your overall health at

food so that you can stay healthy you are greatly mistaken. What many of these cooking shows do is

Advertisement Of A Mcdonald 's Advertisement
We see advertisements and commercials all the time in our daily lives. Sometimes, though, more
often than not, we over look things that might be presented to us, without even realizing it. A
McDonald's advertisement is something everyone is familiar with. Whether we are ignoring the
subtleties that are hidden in the advertisements message, or we are paying attention to the tricks that
are being used to draw us in, McDonalds knows how to make an effective ad.
At the beginning of the McDonald's ad we see the front yard of a little girl's house as her mother
does yard work in the background. As the little girl sits on the sidewalk steps, we find that she has a
grey cloud hovering over her head. We hear a piano jingle from the beginning of the commercial as
it zooms in to show the glum look on her face when she looks up at the cloud. Trying to scoot out
from underneath the cloud she realizes it doesn't work because the cloud follows her. Even blowing
at it doesn't work. Instantly Ronald McDonald walks up and says, "hi there (McDonalds)." Her face
lights up just long enough to say hi back. He looks at the cloud and kneels down to her level. He
mentions her day is going bad and with a sad look she replies, "I'll say (McDonalds)." After he tells
her it could be worse, the cloud begins to rain on her. With sarcasm she then says, "Awesome
(McDonalds)." This is when the piano jingle changes from instrumental to spoken words. Ronald
then reaches up and grabs the cloud as the words in

Gathering Around the Table
My early memories bring back images of my family and I gathered around the white kitchen table.
At that table, my mom revealed the list of potential names for my new baby brother. Manner lessons
given at meal times consisted of shouts of "elbows off the table" and "stop kicking your sister",
which echoed over the commotion of meals. My family and I spent dinner time bonding, finding out
about each other's days, and spending a few moments together as a family before we were tucked
into bed. Meals show a common tie that bonds us all; everyone eats and can relate to the experience.
Many novels use this bond to portray a theme in the plot. Gathering around a table and sharing a
meal can lead to friendship and a feeling of togetherness.
The Secret Life of Bees, by Sue Monk Kidd, describes a meal that brings a family together. After
August's sister, May, passes away, the family breaks and morns. A simple dinner brings the group
back together and their life starts to return to what it was before May's death. This regular dinner,
followed by August and Lily's favorite dessert, Coke and peanuts, show that the family can move
on. They each got a bag of peanuts and a bottle of ice cold Coke. Lily "[shook] the peanuts into [her]
bottle, where they caused a little reaction of foam, then floated on the brown liquid. [She] drank and
munched with the glory of salt and sweet in [her] mouth at the same time."(Kidd, 492). For the
family it became a turning point from grieving to living

The National School Lunch Program
Abstract The National School Lunch Program is a great resource for schools to use, to help provide
children whom may not be able to afford their own lunches. The problem with the program though
is that the recent changes to the requirements schools must follow make it difficult to provide
lunches that are appealing and fulfilling to students. Schools also find that it is costing them more to
try and follow these requirements and there is a lot more waste because students are not happy. The
NSLP needs to change some of its requirements so schools can have some freedom in how lunches
are prepared so students will be more likely to eat them. They also need to take in consideration that
not every student should follow the same calorie count and how not have enough can affect a
student, and too much creates waste. With certain changes the NSLP can be successful once again.
The National School Lunch Program: The Need for More Leniency The National School Lunch
Program helps schools provide students who can not always afford their lunches, with healthy well
balanced meals. The way it works is the school follows the requirements that the NSLP lays out and
then the government reimburses the schools for the lunches of the students who qualify for the
program. This program is very beneficial for everyone involved, there is only one problem. In recent
years the requirements for lunches have become more strict and harder for the schools to follow.

All Faiths Food Bank Organization
All Faiths Food Bank is an organization that collects food products from many donation sources and
distributes them to local people that are in need. The organization moves the food through its 20,000
square foot warehouse, off Fruitville Road in Sarasota (A). After the food is properly inspected, it is
then distributed to, currently 184, Sarasota and DeSoto County agencies and outpost centers, such as
mobile pantries at community centers and churches (A). Those that are deemed financially eligible
applicants can then receive their, much–needed, nutritional assistance. Because of the summer
programs last year, such as the backpack program, 26,986 children received food; this equates to
1,994,415 meals (B). It is estimated that All Faiths Food Bank supplies a total of approximately 8
million pounds of food per year, which equates to 6.5 million meals (A).

Ethical Issue in Mcdonald
Toys with Happy meal
The Ethical Dilemma of McDonald's
McDonald's currently faces a crisis, as parents, who objected to the free toys offered with the
McDonald's Happy Meal, sued the company. San Francisco passed a law banning free toys with
food. In this paper, I will address how a corporation responds to a law, which challenges the
organization's current policies. I will also assess McDonald's ethical dilemma of the balancing
corporate concerns and community concerns, and I will argue they can still provide toys with their
food if they can make their food healthier and the toys encourage children to eat healthy food.

What McDonald's Did McDonald 's announced that the toys are no longer free. The McDonald 's
now charges 10 cents for toys, and they donate 10 cents to the Ronald McDonald House. Also,
McDonald 's downsized the french fries portion, provided apple slices, and removed the popular
caramel dipping sauce in the happy meal. McDonald's changes didn't influence children positively.
First, Charging 10 cents won't make the toys being less of incentive to buy unhealthy food. Children
are still attracted to eat unhealthy food witch McDonald's sells. Second, hamburger, french fries are
still high in salt, fat, and sugar drinks are too sweet. McDonald's downsized the potion and gave
options of healthy food in Happy Meal's menu just to follow the law. Scott Rodrick, McDonald's
Owner, explains how they are just giving the customers what they want, "They wanted us to provide
choice on the menu, they wanted us to follow the letter of the law" (McDonald 's finding, 2011).
Also, "[McDonald's] claims that its meals are "right–sized for kids," and that it offers food choices
that are healthy. The company changed the public to focus on the portion of food from the nutrition.
The consumers and nutrition advocates didn 't want the company just to follow the letter of the law.
Those changes that McDonald's made were small and useless. They wanted the company to focus on

The Most Memorable Meal Essay
The Most Memorable Meal
As a food lover and adventurous eater, I've certainly eaten so many kinds of food from many
countries around the world. And I have a lot of good and bad moments related to food. However,
when you ask me about the most memorable meal that I have eaten in my life, perhaps the first thing
that appears in my mind is my daddy's soup.
It was 10 years ago, when I was just a little boy. At that time, my mom had so much work at her
office and she just couldn't come back home until 9 p.m. In my family, my mom was the only one
who could prepare food and cook. So when she called my dad and said that she couldn't come back

And I was so surprised about my dad's soup. All my thoughts about a great meal were taken down.
The soup was not as delicious as it looked, it tasted so weird: at first, I felt it so salty, after a while, it
tasted so spicy. After tasting the first sip, I looked at my dad and smiled. He just thought that he was
successful with his soup until he tried his first sip. Then he knew how his soup was and he said
"Sorry son, I tried my best, maybe we can wait for mom to come back home and cook dinner for
us." As soon as he finished speaking, I took the spoon, continued eating the soup and smiled. I know
the soup was not good, but it was from my dad, from all his love for me. I don't know if my dad
knew what I was thinking or not, or maybe he thought that I was so hungry to eat everything even
though it tasted too bad. My dad was so surprised about my act for a while, and he continued to eat
the soup with me. We both had a great time together, eating and talking with each other about bad
things, good things at work and school. After that, my mom finally came home. She looked so tired
from her work, but she still smiled and looked at me and my dad while both of us were eating soup.
She surely knew my dad made something for me and she slowly went forward to the table and
started tasting the soup. After her tasting, not a single word, she hugged both of us with her slender
arms and also with all her heart. This

The Importance Of Advertising In Advertising
"Advertising" and advertisement(s)" are defined as any message, the content of which message is
controlled directly or indirectly by the advertiser expressed in any language and communicated in
any medium to Canadians with the intent to influence their choice, opinion or behavior" (Ad
Standards, 2017). Puffery is used in many outlets of advertising; it is the practice of making
exaggerated, fanciful, or highly suggestive claims about a product or service. Usually the
exaggeration is obvious and concerns subjective feelings or non–material associations (Arrington,
Lutz p.83, 1991, p.469). An example of this would be the Molson Canadian beer ad described the
product as "cold, clean and crisp". Any beer is cold if you put it in the fridge, and warm if you don't.
You would hope that every beer is clean, that no poisonous chemicals or rodent droppings got into it
at the factory. Carrot sticks are crisp, potatoes chips are crisp, but beer is wet not crunchy (Beam,
2008, 8.3.1). However, the words "cold, clean and crisp" are effective puffery. It's supposed to lead
you to believe this beer is better than others. This classic justification for advertising contends that
ads simply give us information, which allows us to purchase what we want (Arrington, 1991, p.472).
The most basic ethical concerns raised by advertising is sending consumers false information about
a product or service as well as promoting a materialistic lifestyle that engages people, especially
teens or young

Happy Meal Lab

  • 1. Happy Meal Lab Purpose: When conducting this experiment we were trying to figure out the types of nutrients were in a McDonald's Happy Meal. Background: Before starting this experiment we all had a general sense of was what is in a Mcdonald's Happy Meal. We could assume the main nutrient in each part of the meal. Using the information of what type of nutrients and organic molecules we were able to suspect what was in the Happy Meal. There are three types of Organic molecules, examples of them are protein, fats/oils, starch and monosaccharides. Proteins provide structure, movement, and energy. Fats/oils are used for long term energy storage, insulation and cushioning. Monosaccharides and starch are both used mainly for energy storage Hypothesis: Using this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Then we added 5 drops of Lugol's solution and recorded results. Discussion: The results of the class were: Burger: Positive for fats/oils, negative for all the other tests, three groups got positive for protein. The data says that the burger has a low amount of protein in it. When we know that it has a higher amount of protein. The data proves that the burger does have fat/oil in it. The lack of positive results for protein was because the H2O/burger solution had too much H2O to get a consistent result. Not all the groups could get chunks of burger for the test, proving that the burger was to diluted. Fries: The groups got positive for starch and fat/oil. Proving that fries do have starch and fat/oil in them like I predicted in my hypothesis. Fries are greasy because they fry them in oil which is a type of fat/oil which is why it came out as positive. Bun: All eight of the groups got positive results for starch. Seven groups got positive for monosaccharides and protein. This proves that my hypothesis that starch was in the bun was correct. The other results might of been contaminated by the burger, because some of the burger residue could have gotten onto the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. The Word Culture Impacts Each And Every Individual... The word culture impacts each and every individual differently. For me, my culture is associated with pride and joy; for others, cultural heritage can remind a person of pain and suffering. All cultural experiences vary depending on where people grew up and the amount of value placed on cultural traditions within families. Most people can easily describe their culture; many simply state, "I'm Italian and Irish." However, being a third generation American, I've truly become a melting pot. I am 1/16th Scottish, 1/16th British, 1/4th Polish, 1/4th Italian and 3/8th's German. My grandfather on my mom's side is one hundred percent Italian, while my grandmother on my mom's side was one hundred percent Polish. This makes my mom fifty percent Italian and fifty percent Polish, which is pretty typical of a second generation American. My grandfather on my dad's side was one hundred percent German, while my grandmother was 1/2 German, 1/4th Scottish, and 1/4th British. Since my grandmother, who was only a first generation American already had three different ethnicities, my culture heritage started to become slightly a–typical from your traditional American. My father, who was 3/4th German, 1/8th Scottish and 1/8th British, lacked any similarities with my mom's heritage. This made me part of five different cultures. I value and appreciate each of my cultures just as much as the next, however, the most influential grandparent on my cultural identity has been my Italian grandfather so ... • 5. Case Study : ' Happy Family, Happy Me Ba Da Ba Ba Ba, I'm Not Lovin' It McDonalds is arguably one of the most iconic and fastest growing fast food chains in the world. According to their website, they operate over 36,000 restaurants in more than 100 countries (McDonalds para 1). The company released an ad in Malaysia titled "Happy Family, Happy Me." The ad depicts a joyous family eating in a McDonalds restaurant. A happy meal box and a Big Mac box are staged on the table as a young girl gleefully feeds her father a French fry and her mother looks on with a smile. A subscript of the ad even reads, "Keeping everyone in the family satisfied can be easy. With a little help from us, it can be fun too." The ad tries to portray eating at McDonalds as such an enjoyable and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The ad also targets children by mentioning the Playland and by saying that the happy meal "comes with a free toy." They try to persuade kids to want to come back by revealing that a new toy is released every week. Food ads try to appeal to children because if they start eating their products at an early age, it is likely that they will remain a customer for life. McDonalds attracts children with their playgrounds, their complementary toys, and even their friendly clown mascot, Ronald McDonald. Every time that child returns to McDonalds, their liking and craving for the food is deepened until its consumption becomes a necessity into and throughout adulthood. The ad uses a Z formation to draw in its audience. The first thing that drew me into the picture is the joyous image of the girl feeding her father a French fry. My eyes then move down diagonally, following the happy meal box and observing the rest of the food items on the table, like the Big Mac box, the French fry packages, and the drink cups. Then my eyes come across the title, "Happy Family, Happy Me," before coming across a paragraph that explains how McDonalds helps to create happy families. My eyes then trail right, across the bottom of the ad, to see the new chicken sandwich happy meal that they are advertising. My eyes have already ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Summary: Always Hungry Always Hungry College is great; you're starting over in a new place, gaining new experiences, and making new friends. Only thing is you had to leave mom or dad's maybe even grandma's fantastic cooking behind. In addition to that cooking for ourselves isn't an option many students have due to money and the fact most dorms don't have kitchens. Therefore students are stuck with what the dining hall offers. Although a variety of meal plans are available to the students none of them are worth buying if the food is old or it's the same thing that is offered daily. Here at The University of South Alabama our dining hall lacks a variety of fresh and healthy food. I believe the best solution would be to allow the students to have an input on what ... • 9. Essay About School Lunches The Bad Effect School Lunches Have "What the heck is on my plate," all around the nation, kids are saying exactly that, when the cooks of schools are plopping down blobs of food on their plate. The USDA has made new regulations to what the schools can serve their kids. This is a problem that schools don't realize, they are causing. These so called healthy meals are just being wasted, put down the garbage shoot by kids, who refuse to eat the muck they give us. Therefore, these new regulations they gave to schools is causing problems, the food the USDA is supplying to the school is being thrown down the drain, and this problem is not helping obesity. Recently, the USDA has supplied schools with new food that they claim is healthy. This new rule ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Let's face it kids are not happy with these new changes being made. Half of the lunches serve nowadays are very questionable as to whether you can eat it. To the USDA, look where your food is going; it is going down the garbage just wasted because no one wants to eat mystery meat. Another reason the USDA claims they have made these changes is because, they feel it will help with obesity. They can't help with that if students will not eat it. Most students take one look at their trays and think, "yuck, what's this, the ground up food from yesterday?" If kids will not eat these nasty lunches how are they helping? This growing problem is not the cause of school lunches being too fatty, but when some kids get home they binge eat, causing an unhealthy weight gain. In conclusion these new regulations are causing many problems in an average student's diet. Instead of helping our diets, they are making them worst. We should take a stand and help them realize that, we need to find a happy medium when it comes to our options at lunch. These new school lunches are causing problems, being thrown down the drain, and does not help with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Why We Should Stay Trim And Fit Do you want to stay trim and fit, but also really enjoy dining out? Or, does your work or travel schedule leave you eating in restaurants multiple times per week? If so, you 're not alone. Nearly 60% of North Americans report eating out at least once per week. I believe that the whole point of being healthy is to enjoy your life more, thus it makes no sense to stop doing the things you enjoy in order to be healthy. The good news is that, with a bit of planning and a bit of know–how, you can stick to a healthy eating routine and still enjoy meals out. Your plan of attack will depend on a few different factors: 1. Why are you out to eat? Are you there because you 're on a work trip and you just need to eat, or are you out to enjoy time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With that being said, having a few strategies can help, and I 'm here to help! Before you go out: 1. Eat a small snack prior to going out, or at least ensure that you are not ravenous. If you are too hungry, especially to the point of feeling irritable, your desire to eat anything and everything can easily override your desire to choose a healthy option. 2. Decide ahead of time. If you are able to, research the menu online to see what the restaurant offers. It 's easier to stick to a plan that you made ahead of time rather than to try to decide on the fly. If your plan is to indulge in whatever you want; then go for it; but decide ahead of time. 3.Change your mindset. Remind yourself that you 're there to enjoy time with your friends or spouse, and that you happen to be eating food. Enjoy your food, but remember that it 's just food. At the restaurant: 1. Start with water. Cold water, hot water, lemon water, soda water– there 's so many choices! If you choose to order a drink, enjoy something on the lighter fare such as a glass of wine, or alcohol mixed with soda water. Fancy drinks such as margaritas and long island ice teas can pack upwards of 600 calories per glass. 2. Skip the appetizers. Appetizer is not synonymous with lower calorie. Freezer Meal Research Paper Title: Freezer Meals Introduction Its 3'oclock, the kids will be home from school soon, you have to take one to basketball, the other to soccer practice, and feed your spouse when they arrive home. You don't want to spend hours cooking a healthy meal but what choice do you have? The children need to eat something healthy and your spouse will want a hot meal on the table when they arrive home after working a grueling 8 hour shift. You look in the pantry, everything located there is not very healthy or will take hours to prepare and make. You could run down to the local hamburger fast food place, but the food they serve is not very good, and definitely not healthy, also after a while it becomes very expensive if you were to do this every time you had a day like this. Then something reminds you, there are bread buns in the bread box, then there is that pulled pork BBQ that you made way to much of two months ago sitting in a baggie in the freezer. There is your dinner! The family will be happy and you can throw it on the stove and cook a quick meal. Chapter 1: What are Freezer Meals? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Freezer meals are not just those quick little TV dinners you buy at the supermarket with your meat, vegetable, and maybe a chewy brownie. Freezer meals are much more than that. Is it even possible for such a company survive and thrive; or will it have to shut down its business? McDonald's fast food has for a long time been considered unhealthy by the public. In recent years, the health conscious trends have become increasingly popular. Moreover, many scientific studies and findings have surfaced and successfully confirmed that children's increasing intake of fast food, which often contains high sodium content, sugars, saturated fats, and calories, for a long period of time would lead to childhood obesity. Moreover, obese children have a much higher risk of many health ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, the corporation was heavily condemned by the public for exploiting children market and causing childhood obesity. Indeed, McDonald's has been using advertising which mainly targeted children. As a result, according to the survey to American school student in 1996, 96 percent of all children could identify Ronald McDonald (Cohen, 2011, p8–5). How was McDonald's able to achieve the above result? McDonald's children marketing strategies were very simple but extremely effective––to give small toys as a treatment to children in order to appeal to their interests. With the repeated uses of this psychological influencing tactic, children would subconsciously make a connection between McDonald's and toys. Therefore, children, who were under the influences of McDonald's marketing strategies, could not help to think of McDonald's whenever thinking of toys. The plaintiff, Monet Parham, a California mother of two, sued McDonald's overly exploiting children market on Oct 2010 (Dan, 2011).She claimed that McDonald's gave out alluring toys that come with the meals in order to lure kids into unhealthy diet. The mother also stated that "McDonald's make it so much harder to say no to her kids when they are really want those toys" (York, 2010). The CSPI (Center for Science in the Public Interest) confirmed that "kids do not have the cognitive maturity to understand the persuasive intent of advertising" (York, 2010). • 20. Fast Food Dangers Dangers Of Fast Food Fast food is delicious, but is it deadly? Over the years the fast food industry has made larger proportions to meet the growing demand. The industry thrives off of competition, and is constantly trying to one up each other. Places like Wendy's, Burger King, McDonald's, and Taco Bell provide large amounts of food for a bargain. The creation of dollar menus and five dollar meal deals has influenced more people to dine out. According to University Hospitals, 44% of Americans eat out at least once a week, every day 34% of children consume fast food, and children get 12% of their calories from fast food (North Ohio Heart). Fast food is taking over people's diets. The 2004 Documentary Super Size Me talks about the truth behind the fast food industry, but mostly McDonald's. Morgan Spurlock, the producer and the man doing the experiment, decided that he wanted to see what kind of effect that McDonald's could have on the human body. He decides to go on a thirty day quest, where he only eats McDonald's for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. His reason for this experiment was to expose the results eating fast food has on your body. Fast food is a big contributor to obesity, high cholesterol, heart failure, liver failure, etc. Spurlock also mentions how advertising is how places like McDonald's persuade people to eat at their restaurants. I jumped into my car, realized it was low on gas and thought, I won't be gone long. I began on my trip by pulling out of the driveway, nothing out of the ordinary. As I traveled down the road I get to work on everyday, I noticed an off road that I had not traveled on before. I turned down the unknown road. The road was newly paved and was lit up by a fancy light post. The road went on for a couple of miles and then I hit a fork in the road. I thought, maybe I will go home, but I decided to keep going. Diet Communication Center ( Dcc ) Observations Essay Diet Communication Center (DCC) Observations: During our DCC observation, we had the opportunity to engage with Curtis Thomas, Yolanda Wright, and Josephine Rose. Each of these employees taught us about the different operations in DCC. First, Curtis showed us how to run SmartSubs for the evening meal. He explained to us that he addresses the conflicts that arise from fluid–restricted patients. If the order says, "No replacement found," Curtis went back into Computrition to manually put items back in using the "Fluid Restriction Guide." Next, he printed the tally guide report for each line. Each line had 3 reports: hot food, cold food, and loader. Afterwards, we met with Yolanda to observe her printing the first set of tray tickets for the evening meal. She mentioned that whoever works the early morning shift in DCC is responsible for printing out the queue list, updates and late trays using Vista software. Once she printed the tray tickets, she cut each page into 3 and ordered the tickets based on each unit. Yolanda mentioned that each meal has a different color pen specifying the number of diet orders for each unit to avoid any confusion. If there were more than 20 orders for one unit, she would put the excess into the next set because the meal carts only hold a maximum of 20 trays. Ms. Rose told us that she is currently responsible for running the select menus for CLC, SCI, and 6D. DCC explained that diet changes are typically ordered by doctors and dietitians through CPRS ... • 28. Children And Advertising : The Impact Of Advertising To... Advertising to children began in the 1970s, marketers decided to advertise to children because they can be heavily influenced by commercials (Wilcox, Kunkel, Cantor, Dowrick, Linn, Palmer, 2004). Some believe there are ethical concerns with targeting children, because they are so easily persuaded. Others such as Lalley, senior vice president at Lid–Leo (company specializes in accounts for McDonald's and Nintendo), believe the commercials are not manipulating children to make purchases, because commercials are just bringing awareness of the product, not convincing children that they need the item. Children or parents have the decision to purchase or not to purchase the product (Campbell, Davis–Packard, 2000). Marketing to children has become increasingly more popular. Businesses spend $17 billion annually to market to this target group, since children under twelve years old influence $500 billion purchases annually, giving companies a remarkable return on investment (Horovitz, 2006). There are several mediums that companies may use to target children to purchase products which include television, radio, internet, books, cell phone applications, and in store tactics. Television Advertisers use television as a medium to target children, especially during Saturday morning cartoons on popular children networks such as Nickelodeon, PBS Kids, Disney Channel, and Cartoon Network. They say that children were the prized possessions of the families. They usually started school around 6 and went to school until they were 16. After school, they could either join the workforce, further their educations in high school, or do vocational training. Adult men and women had their own roles while their children were in school. • 46. Why Schools Should Keep The Weight And Health Of Children This is not entirely true. Many students can get out of gym class. At most schools, activities such as band are counted towards gym credits. Band is not even a sport; students simply sit and play an instrument that usually requires little movement. Standardized tests show that after students participated in some type of physical activity, they were much more attentive. Because students would understand the lessons much more, the time taken away from class to participate in gym would be well worth it (Taras). Schools need to require activities that are more physical in order to promote healthy lifestyles. Physical activity alone cannot completely help the weight and health of children. Fredericktown only offers Uncrustables. They are tiny little sandwiches with no crust that are smaller than the palm of a hand. These are froze most of the time also so students cannot eat them either. The only time students are offered healthy options or forced to take at least one vegetable or fruit is when the school is expecting a health inspection. This system is absolutely absurd and unfair to the children who have no other options other than to buy the school lunches. The government has tried to improve the school lunch systems a little bit. The Healthy, Hunger–Free Kids Act began in 2012. This required meals to be lower in fat, calories, and sodium, and have more lean proteins, fruits, vegetables, and whole grains (Murphy). Unfortunately, this act also caused the food to be not as bland and un–enjoyable. Schools have noticed that most kids either throw away their meals or simply just pack their lunch (Murphy). The Healthy, Hunger–Free Kids Act must be revised to allow the meals to be edible or at least enjoyable to the students. Just because the food is slightly healthier now, does not mean that the students will eat it. If they have the option of healthy food but it is unsatisfying, they will probably choose to either buy foods from vending machines or just pack their own unhealthy processed food from home. The ... Many online sources such as The Atlantic state that "family dinners build relationships, and help kids do better in school" (Delistraty). There are many benefits of regularly eating together for at least one meal a day: Family members have the opportunity to talk to each other; children are more likely to be more well–rounded, eat healthier and have a positive self–esteem; children who eat regularly with their families are less likely to drink, smoke or use drugs. Families that do not eat together are leading their kids into a dangerous plight, by not showing them you care. Imagine the sounds of chirping birds, the sights of crops growing as far as the eye can see, and the smell of the fresh, crisp air. This extraordinary land is one of the many farms of Whole Foods. Striving to promote a lifestyle that supports happiness and health was the ultimate goal in Whole Food's "Food From a Happy Place" commercial in 2013. Even though Whole Foods has various different types of food products, they decided to base the commercial on a single vegetable, a carrot. In the film, the carrot is first shown in its sustainable roots being picked by a farmer. It is then carried in a wheelbarrow to get washed in preparation for a local Whole Foods grocery store. At the store, a customer picks up the carrot, puts it in her cart, and purchases it. The carrot is displayed by being chopped up, cooked, and displayed in three different types of meals: a salad, roasted carrots, and carrot cake. Exhibiting the life cycle of a carrot allows the targeted audience to see exactly where ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 62. Cultural Difference In American Culture While studying in America, I have encountered a meal problem with my host–family because of cultural difference. In China, lunch is the most important and delicious meal for the day. Thus, I was so picky about the food I ate for lunch. However, my host–family neither knew about my culture nor asked me about what kinds of lunch I liked, insisting on making sandwiches for a day to two weeks. One day, I finally had the courage to tell her that I do not want sandwiches anymore; she was unexpectedly confused and told me that sandwiches were typical for American lunch. After that, I was so upset and started to hate sandwiches by throwing them away and complained about my host family to my mom. And, my school life was also filled with unhappy and ... • 64. Rachel Ray Show Research Paper Everyone seems to love all the cooking shows that are now on television. Do you that that some of them however don't take your health into consideration when planning out their recipes? Most of these cooking shows want to stay focused on keeping their ratings up, but you can not really believe that this is their responsibility. Their only job is to make the meals look as appetizing as humanly possible. This is why it is so important for you to look closely at the ingredients used before you decide to cook the meal. On some television shows such as the Rachel Ray show, they will tell you how to make your meal a bit healthier. It could really be as simple as keeping one particular ingredient or perhaps using less of something. So many of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sometimes it's even possible to combine one or two recipes from different shows to create your own original recipe. All it really takes is a little creativity on your part, and of course the desire to be healthy. Of course this is not to say that your favorite cooking show is doing this intentionally. You have to be willing to have a little self control and not go overboard when they show you those appetizing recipes. The bottom line is that you are responsible for your own health, not the food networks, and cooking shows. So basically you are the only one who can put your overall health at risk. So for all those people who feel that it's the cooking show's responsibility to only cook healthy food so that you can stay healthy you are greatly mistaken. What many of these cooking shows do is teach you how to plan a complete meal for your family. Since most parents happen to work full time jobs many need help when it comes to preparing a full meal for their family within a short period of time. I for one and very happy with all of the cooking shows that are on television. I think that we are given the opportunity to see various cooking styles. in addition to learning about different types of foods. • 66. Advertisement Of A Mcdonald 's Advertisement We see advertisements and commercials all the time in our daily lives. Sometimes, though, more often than not, we over look things that might be presented to us, without even realizing it. A McDonald's advertisement is something everyone is familiar with. Whether we are ignoring the subtleties that are hidden in the advertisements message, or we are paying attention to the tricks that are being used to draw us in, McDonalds knows how to make an effective ad. At the beginning of the McDonald's ad we see the front yard of a little girl's house as her mother does yard work in the background. As the little girl sits on the sidewalk steps, we find that she has a grey cloud hovering over her head. We hear a piano jingle from the beginning of the commercial as it zooms in to show the glum look on her face when she looks up at the cloud. Trying to scoot out from underneath the cloud she realizes it doesn't work because the cloud follows her. Even blowing at it doesn't work. Instantly Ronald McDonald walks up and says, "hi there (McDonalds)." Her face lights up just long enough to say hi back. He looks at the cloud and kneels down to her level. He mentions her day is going bad and with a sad look she replies, "I'll say (McDonalds)." After he tells her it could be worse, the cloud begins to rain on her. With sarcasm she then says, "Awesome (McDonalds)." This is when the piano jingle changes from instrumental to spoken words. Ronald then reaches up and grabs the cloud as the words in ... • 68. Gathering Around the Table My early memories bring back images of my family and I gathered around the white kitchen table. At that table, my mom revealed the list of potential names for my new baby brother. Manner lessons given at meal times consisted of shouts of "elbows off the table" and "stop kicking your sister", which echoed over the commotion of meals. My family and I spent dinner time bonding, finding out about each other's days, and spending a few moments together as a family before we were tucked into bed. Meals show a common tie that bonds us all; everyone eats and can relate to the experience. Many novels use this bond to portray a theme in the plot. Gathering around a table and sharing a meal can lead to friendship and a feeling of togetherness. The Secret Life of Bees, by Sue Monk Kidd, describes a meal that brings a family together. After August's sister, May, passes away, the family breaks and morns. A simple dinner brings the group back together and their life starts to return to what it was before May's death. This regular dinner, followed by August and Lily's favorite dessert, Coke and peanuts, show that the family can move on. They each got a bag of peanuts and a bottle of ice cold Coke. Lily "[shook] the peanuts into [her] bottle, where they caused a little reaction of foam, then floated on the brown liquid. [She] drank and munched with the glory of salt and sweet in [her] mouth at the same time."(Kidd, 492). For the family it became a turning point from grieving to living ... • 70. The National School Lunch Program Abstract The National School Lunch Program is a great resource for schools to use, to help provide children whom may not be able to afford their own lunches. The problem with the program though is that the recent changes to the requirements schools must follow make it difficult to provide lunches that are appealing and fulfilling to students. Schools also find that it is costing them more to try and follow these requirements and there is a lot more waste because students are not happy. The NSLP needs to change some of its requirements so schools can have some freedom in how lunches are prepared so students will be more likely to eat them. They also need to take in consideration that not every student should follow the same calorie count and how not have enough can affect a student, and too much creates waste. With certain changes the NSLP can be successful once again. The National School Lunch Program: The Need for More Leniency The National School Lunch Program helps schools provide students who can not always afford their lunches, with healthy well balanced meals. The way it works is the school follows the requirements that the NSLP lays out and then the government reimburses the schools for the lunches of the students who qualify for the program. This program is very beneficial for everyone involved, there is only one problem. In recent years the requirements for lunches have become more strict and harder for the schools to follow. The organization moves the food through its 20,000 square foot warehouse, off Fruitville Road in Sarasota (A). After the food is properly inspected, it is then distributed to, currently 184, Sarasota and DeSoto County agencies and outpost centers, such as mobile pantries at community centers and churches (A). Those that are deemed financially eligible applicants can then receive their, much–needed, nutritional assistance. Because of the summer programs last year, such as the backpack program, 26,986 children received food; this equates to 1,994,415 meals (B). It is estimated that All Faiths Food Bank supplies a total of approximately 8 million pounds of food per year, which equates to 6.5 million meals (A). My first, 3 hour, volunteer session was this past Saturday morning at the food bank warehouse. I worked alongside a team of 9 people with Ben, our lead supervisor, and Fran Tally, the organization's volunteer coordinator. Our shift assignment was to unpack large boxes of mingled frozen meats and pack the contents into separate 40 pound boxes. These individually packed boxes were required to contain beef, poultry, or pork. My second volunteer session was at the Nokomis Park Community Center for a little over 2 hours. I served as part of a team of about a dozen volunteers at this location, which operates as a mobile ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 74. Ethical Issue in Mcdonald Toys with Happy meal The Ethical Dilemma of McDonald's McDonald's currently faces a crisis, as parents, who objected to the free toys offered with the McDonald's Happy Meal, sued the company. San Francisco passed a law banning free toys with food. In this paper, I will address how a corporation responds to a law, which challenges the organization's current policies. I will also assess McDonald's ethical dilemma of the balancing corporate concerns and community concerns, and I will argue they can still provide toys with their food if they can make their food healthier and the toys encourage children to eat healthy food. Description The decision of which restaurant to go to and which meal to buy may be based on the quality of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What McDonald's Did McDonald 's announced that the toys are no longer free. The McDonald 's now charges 10 cents for toys, and they donate 10 cents to the Ronald McDonald House. Also, McDonald 's downsized the french fries portion, provided apple slices, and removed the popular caramel dipping sauce in the happy meal. McDonald's changes didn't influence children positively. First, Charging 10 cents won't make the toys being less of incentive to buy unhealthy food. Children are still attracted to eat unhealthy food witch McDonald's sells. Second, hamburger, french fries are still high in salt, fat, and sugar drinks are too sweet. McDonald's downsized the potion and gave options of healthy food in Happy Meal's menu just to follow the law. Scott Rodrick, McDonald's Owner, explains how they are just giving the customers what they want, "They wanted us to provide choice on the menu, they wanted us to follow the letter of the law" (McDonald 's finding, 2011). Also, "[McDonald's] claims that its meals are "right–sized for kids," and that it offers food choices that are healthy. The company changed the public to focus on the portion of food from the nutrition. The consumers and nutrition advocates didn 't want the company just to follow the letter of the law. Those changes that McDonald's made were small and useless. They wanted the company to focus on the nutrition of food. Sara Deon, spokeswoman ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 76. The Most Memorable Meal Essay The Most Memorable Meal As a food lover and adventurous eater, I've certainly eaten so many kinds of food from many countries around the world. And I have a lot of good and bad moments related to food. However, when you ask me about the most memorable meal that I have eaten in my life, perhaps the first thing that appears in my mind is my daddy's soup. It was 10 years ago, when I was just a little boy. At that time, my mom had so much work at her office and she just couldn't come back home until 9 p.m. In my family, my mom was the only one who could prepare food and cook. So when she called my dad and said that she couldn't come back home early to cook a meal for me and my father, we thought that we were having the biggest problem in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And I was so surprised about my dad's soup. All my thoughts about a great meal were taken down. The soup was not as delicious as it looked, it tasted so weird: at first, I felt it so salty, after a while, it tasted so spicy. After tasting the first sip, I looked at my dad and smiled. He just thought that he was successful with his soup until he tried his first sip. Then he knew how his soup was and he said "Sorry son, I tried my best, maybe we can wait for mom to come back home and cook dinner for us." As soon as he finished speaking, I took the spoon, continued eating the soup and smiled. I know the soup was not good, but it was from my dad, from all his love for me. I don't know if my dad knew what I was thinking or not, or maybe he thought that I was so hungry to eat everything even though it tasted too bad. My dad was so surprised about my act for a while, and he continued to eat the soup with me. We both had a great time together, eating and talking with each other about bad things, good things at work and school. After that, my mom finally came home. She looked so tired from her work, but she still smiled and looked at me and my dad while both of us were eating soup. She surely knew my dad made something for me and she slowly went forward to the table and started tasting the soup. After her tasting, not a single word, she hugged both of us with her slender arms and also with all her heart. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 78. The Importance Of Advertising In Advertising "Advertising" and advertisement(s)" are defined as any message, the content of which message is controlled directly or indirectly by the advertiser expressed in any language and communicated in any medium to Canadians with the intent to influence their choice, opinion or behavior" (Ad Standards, 2017). Puffery is used in many outlets of advertising; it is the practice of making exaggerated, fanciful, or highly suggestive claims about a product or service. Usually the exaggeration is obvious and concerns subjective feelings or non–material associations (Arrington, Lutz p.83, 1991, p.469). An example of this would be the Molson Canadian beer ad described the product as "cold, clean and crisp". Any beer is cold if you put it in the fridge, and warm if you don't. You would hope that every beer is clean, that no poisonous chemicals or rodent droppings got into it at the factory. Carrot sticks are crisp, potatoes chips are crisp, but beer is wet not crunchy (Beam, 2008, 8.3.1). However, the words "cold, clean and crisp" are effective puffery. It's supposed to lead you to believe this beer is better than others. This classic justification for advertising contends that ads simply give us information, which allows us to purchase what we want (Arrington, 1991, p.472). The most basic ethical concerns raised by advertising is sending consumers false information about a product or service as well as promoting a materialistic lifestyle that engages people, especially teens or young ...
