La Antigüedad Del Mundo Poem Analysis
Here, the poet implies the concept of the life absurdity through using special grammar structures in
order to show trivia and the insignificance of living. As a result of the conditions of the world and the
fear and hatred toward death shown in these quatrains, the poet reaches to the result that all things
have the same value which leads to the idea of the meaninglessness of everything including the
world.

While Khayyam has a negative and pessimistic viewpoint to the life in some of his ruba'is, on the
whole, he comes to terms with life as it is rather than exhausting himself in the futile quest for the
meaning of life and the world. It should be considered that Khayyam was not an illiterate person. He
was a great mathematician and an astronomer who knew a lot about the space and the position of
human beings in the world. In this sense, he as a scholar felt nothingness in the huge area of the
existence and being. Consequently, Khayyam as an active nihilist prefers living even in a purposeless
world rather than committing suicide. He prescribes a general prescription for his fellowmen. One
which motivates them to live but not to think deeply about the existence since it will deteriorate a
common person's life because he will be unable to understand and justifies his presence on the Earth
which can lead to chronic feelings of emptiness and in its extremist form to committing suicide. For
Khayyam, life is enjoyment and carpe diem, which means 'seizing the day', because you don't know
whether you will be alive tomorrow or not. His idea is that now that we are here and we don't know
anything about our future and we can't change our past, let's live in the moment and be happy. To

Summary Of Julia Alvarez's Poem Bilingual
The Poem Bilingual was written by Julia Alvarez. Bilingual is about a woman telling us her struggles
of being bilingual–"speaking two languages". She is from Dominican Republic. The bilingual sestina
is about the feeling you have when there are two languages in your head and words won't translate
fast enough. The two–languages & two–cultures are ultimately mixed together and changes on both
sides. The stanza line that says –"Gladys, I summon you back with your given nombre"...reflects a
lonely, longing feeling. The author doesn't understand English Languages as well as the Spanish
Languages. She yearns for that connection and understanding that she got with the Spanish language
which Is dear to her heart. In the poem, the author talks about

No

Transborder Organizations: Back To The United States

Transnationalism can be understood fairly simple. The prefix Trans– refers to "across" or "beyond"
and nation refers to home country/state. Therefore, Transnationalism is understood as the
relationships across and beyond people of different societies and nations that are withheld by
migration. When migration occurs there is a chain reaction from the moment the individual leaves its
country and begins a new life elsewhere which typically would be the United States. This system is
interconnected not only from the homeland to the U.S, but also it reciprocated from the U.S and back
to the nation state. Both sides of the spectrum are what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Transborder communities differentiate from any other because migrants not only cross cultural,
colonial, and racial borders; but they also construct a sense of belonging through activities such as
organizing groups that share a common knowledge. "Mujeres Luchadoras Progresistas (MLP)
formed in the mid–1990s in association with PCUN." (p.233). This organization started as a project
to produce income, but eventually the MLP provided woman with skills like "public speaking
leadership, accounting, and public education. (p.233). Majority of the woman being described in this
chapter shares one common factor. Their husbands are or were far away in the fields and in danger of
deportation. A woman called Antonia said "My husband came here to Oregon in 1985. They always
had to hide from the migra as well. They used to hide in the bins where they stored the vegetables in
the fields. There were a lot of

We Often Fall In Love With People And Think Long And Hard
We often fall in love with people and think long and hard about what it is that we really love about
them. Is it their smile? Personality? Laugh, maybe? The eyes? We can all agree that we all have the
same problem. That we can't exactly explain "why" we love the person. Well in this case, sonnet
XVII, Pablo Neruda loves his beloved from the inside, not the outside features. Pablo Neruda was
born in Chile and his sonnets are originally written in Spanish. He published the 100 Love Sonnets in
1959. He had an affair with his second wife with Matilde Urrutia. Later, they got married in 1966,
but they have been together since 1946. Apparently, Urrutia is the inspiration for 100 love Sonnets.
So let's assume that the sonnets are about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Looking at the original Spanish version, we see the rhyme scheme. The octave lines end with the
words topacio, fuego, oscuras, alma, lleva, flores, cuerpo, and tierra." The rhyme scheme is aabc
cbac. The sestet lines end with the words dónde, orgullo, manera, eres, mía, and sueño. These words
give the sestet a rhyme scheme of bac bca." With this writing style, in this case, free verse, Neruda is
able to convey the message effectively. Through his words and style of writing, we can get an idea of
what kind of guy he is. In the first stanza, he describes what love is not. Neruda says "I don't love
you as if you were a rose of salt, topaz, or arrow of carnations that propagate fire." Here he uses
nature to describe what love is not. But again, later we see that he uses plants to declare his love.
Moreover, the rose of salt is a reference to a type of rose that grows by the ocean. A carnation usually
symbolizes purity of love and affection and a topaz is a mineral that comes in many colors. The first
two lines indicate that his love for his partner is not the same as the love one has for materialistic
things or flowers. The line "I love you as one loves dark things, secretly, between the shadow and the
soul." Neruda suggest what his emotional placement of love is. It is deep in his soul and heart. He
describes his love to dark things, but what does he mean by that? It makes me think that there is

Article Analysis : ' Global Woman ' By Barbara Ehrenreich
The book "Global Woman" edited by Barbara Ehrenreich and Arlie Russell Hochschild focuses on
the lives of women that leave their third world country to work in homes as nannies or servants and
others even sex work. These women take on that labor without knowing what results will come from
their desperate action. The authors explain and recount the stories of many of the women whom have
had to sacrifice their lives. These women sacrifice it all to provide for themselves and their families
and give them a better life, this is told through different chapters. The chapter that I selected to focus
on was " Selling Sex for Visas: Sex Tourism as a Stepping–Stone to International Migration" by
Denise Brennan. The primary argument and main point of the author is some females in the
Dominican Republic sex work for necessity, leaving behind their children and family in look for a
better life. According to the book "Global Women" (pg 154) Dominican women travel to Sosua to
work in the sex trade. There, they charge around 500 pesos ($11 American dollars) for each
encounter with European male tourists. These women don't operate through pimps and aren't
trafficked, or make part of the drug trade. This gives these women the chance to manage their
earnings and their working conditions. This allows them to be able to send money for their children's
expenses since regular jobs only make them about 1000 pesos a month ($22 American dollars). The
regular jobs they could get since their

Transnational Cultural Resistance
Transnational cultural resistance is similar to Leisy Abrego argument on Salvadorian Identity
because of culture and power as being inclusive to borders and family dynamics being linked across
various barriers. In relation to Abrego and Stephens argument about survival and resistance, the
power of matriarchy in both these communities exemplifies the leadership of women as the driving
leaders of revolutions. The construction of borders are mechanisms to not only divide communities,
but also creates a structural system which includes and excludes identities as a way to impose white
supremacy. The exclusion of people is linked to policies that are anti–indigenous and highlights the
irony of American domination, which pushes people out of their homeland and restricts access to
migration. Organizing against these borders and structures of power becomes complex considering
communities are torn apart and positioned into oppressive realities. However, indigenous resistance
to the dominant forms of power lies within their ability to mold an identity and sustain a movement
of resistance. Collective actions, according to Stephen, references the power of grassroot organizing,
which reveals the necessity of change to be connected to local movements because structural change
is a process that begins with a foundation. Lynn Stephen, director of the center for Latino/a and Latin
American Studies at the University of Oregon, argues in her book Transborder Lives: Oaxacan

Summary Of El Sueo De La Malinche
The above image is a painting by Antonio Ruiz and is called "El sueño de la Malinche" meaning
"The Dream of Malinche". It depicts a Mexican town within the Aztec Empire, that is built upon a
resting woman named Malinche. The image depicts the woman sleeping with the the Mexican city
lying on her, therefore with one toss or turn being catastrophic to the city, and is further depicted to
have lightning striking her head, which means to further risk the Mexican City being destroyed by
Malinche's action.
Spanish explorers accompanied by soldiers led expeditions inland throughout South and present day–
Latin America in the early 16th century. The Spanish were searching for a suitable Spanish colony
that both represented Spain, and did not require the building of new cities from the ground up; but
rather they wanted a solid foundation of a urban centre to build off of. The Aztec capital city of
'Tenochititlan' was the answer to these Spanish desires.
Before arriving at the famous gates of Tenochititlan, the Spanish overtook the Tobasco region
amongst many others, and as a form of tribute upon losing the battle, gifts were presented to the
Spanish Conquistador, Hernan Cortes. Amongst these gifts were a group of 20 young slave–girls, the
most notable and beautiful, according to writings of the time, was Malinche. Hernan Cortes noticed
the beauty of Malinche, and soon gifted her to his friend Puertocarrero. Although, Puertocarrero was
on his way back to Spain and left his gift

La Edad Media, de los siglos V al XV
Edad Media

Essay About Immigration
Growing up, the topic of immigration has always sat heavy on both my heart and mind. I am a child
of a deportee; I have lost time, support, and a male figure in my life due to the growing social
concern that is immigration. In 2018, as racial tensions are at an all time high and many of our
political offices do not favor the idea of immigration I believe it is the work of members of the
Hispanic communities in America to fight for our people and their freedom in the United States. I
believe there are many ways of which I, as a member of a Hispanic community and a proud
Hispanic, can and will bring change to help solve the topic of immigration in the U.S.
One of the ways I believe I can make an impact on this social concern is informing people, both
Hispanic and non–Hispanic, of the problems my people face and encouraging people to vote in
elections to support government officials who care and will push for change regarding topics of
immigration. I believe this is an effective tactic to if not solve immigration completely then make a
monumental impact on this social concern. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This idea of investing in the youth is a tactic that I clearly share with the 'Alcanzando Un Sueño Cruz
& Associates Scholarship Program' because pushing Hispanics to achieve a higher education is
something that I believe will bring forward change for all Hispanics and eventually will solve the
problems we see in immigration policies. This will bring change by opening up job opportunities for
Hispanics, raising the annual income of Hispanic families, and bringing more Hispanics toward the
idea of acquiring a post high school degree. Of course, this solution will take time but as the old
saying goes "Rome was not built in a day", meaning that greatness derives from patience and endless

All of the people got off the car fast excluding me. We watched as the coyote left

Let's work hard!). My dad is very Mexican. By far, very traditional to his customs. It was necessary
for him to learn enough English to be able to communicate, and I suppose it simply carried over into
home life. Even so, I think generally Spanish was considered, in our household, to still be the main
language.
We lived in such a small, culturally varied town, there were many opportunities to overhear
conversations in another language. It was mostly Spanish, but our neighborhood was situated directly
in the hood, so many languages through the area speaking their own languages, such as English,
Chinese, Tagalog and more. The surrounding area was also the residence of many Asians, White,
Asian and African American people. I grew accustomed to hearing their language spoken, as well as
knowing a lot about their culture. As you can see, I've been exposed to a variety of languages and
situations, people and places. I hope that by furthering my knowledge of other languages, cultures,
and people, I can overcome many of the prejudices that I have learned from parents, friends, or
associations. I hope that one day I'll be able to interact with people of all different races.

Reflection On Francisco De Quevedo
Christopher Johnson's visit for our class on Francisco de Quevedo was a significant addition to our
ongoing discussion regarding the Baroque, as he was not only able to provide insights into our
critical reading of Quevedo's work–as a scholar of the Baroque and translator of his poetry–but also
posed questions and concerns that will undoubtedly continue to guide our thinking as we move from
the Baroque to the Neo–Baroque. Starting from the premise of the Baroque as an aesthetic that
demands some kind of meta–disciplinary work, I was particularly interested in Johnson's emphasis
on the idea of polarity. Although we had previously discussed the presence of a polarity of sorts in
some of the texts we have read, Johnson's attention to the term, emerging from Spitzer's essay, has
prompted my thinking towards not just the presence, but the development of this concept throughout.
In Luis de Góngora's Soledades, we see violent contrasts of the ascendant and the degrading vision.
Sor Juana's Primero sueño takes us on a voyage of the soul that escapes the body, and on a voyage of
the internal universe of the body that seems to facilitate the escaping of the soul. Quevedo's poetry
showcases both a skillfully mastery of the poetic structures and elements, yet conjugates this with
often time very un–poetic topoi that emphasizes the scatological. I am eager to see how these
polarities manifest themselves in the neo–baroque writings of Lezama Lima and Severo Sarduy, for
example, but

Francisco De Goya Research Paper
It is often said that losing one sense causes the others to sharpen. Undoubtedly one of history's great
artists in regards to painting and etching, Francisco de Goya is no exception to this legend. The
images created after his brush with death that left him deaf, and especially those painted during the
final years of his life known as the "Black Paintings", certainly suggest that his vision grew keener
with the loss of his hearing. A closer look at his career proves that Goya always possessed a keen eye
for depicting people and the world around him as they truly were, even before disease stripped him
of his hearing. From his earliest tapestry cartoons to his politically charged depictions of the
Peninsular War, Goya's paintings and etchings express a brash approach through which he unveils
the folly, foolishness, and cruelty of mankind ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Preceding Goya in the line of Spanish painters was "...Velázquez, painter of Spain's worldly pride
and power, of the pomp and panoply of that brief moment in the 17th Century when the nation stood
boldly, if insecurely, at the center of the historical stage," (Schickel 7). Velázquez's great works such
as Las Meninas and The Surrender of Breda show a grandeur and sophistication of the Spanish
nobility as well as "preparations...not only to end the war, but also to initiate the peace that follows,"
(Velazquez). Unfortunately, even a century before Goya would truly begin the height of his artistic
journey, "shadows lie across most of [Velazquez's] canvases, as if Velázquez sensed what his sitters
did not – that the tide had turned against Spain," (Schickel 7). By the time Goya began creating
works the public of today recognize, any veil of peace his predecessor clung to was stripped away,
leaving Goya to depict the truth of Spain's precarious political situation and the reality of the human

respiratorias, diabetes tipo II artrosis, cáncer, etc).

An Analysis of Frida Kahlo and Carmen Lomas Garza
Cultural Versus Opportunities:
An Analysis of Frida Kahlo And Carmen Lomas Garza
Words 1,715
Both of these paintings show the love and desire to hold on to ones heritage and family traditions
which is extremely important in Hispanic families. Both with vivid colors and images. In Kahlo's
"Self Portrait on the Border Line Between Mexico and the United States", even though she is a
Mexican woman living in a non–Mexican country, she is able to accept both sides and hold on to her
own Mexican heritage and culture which it seems she preferred. In Garza's "Camas Para Sueños"
(Beds for Dreams), Garza is showing the love and closeness she had with her sister and how her
mother allowed them to dream and reach after those dreams as they kept ... Show more content on

This all suggests influences she likes, dislikes, and is perhaps confused by. She is, in this picture, part
of both worlds and clearly the side that is relative to Mexico is patriotic and very Mexican in spirit.
But the hand that holds a cigarette clearly speaks of the industrial and damaging nature of the United
States, perhaps suggesting the negative influence the United States has on Mexico. As it pertains to
religious icons or images there are no obvious religious images on the side with the United States.
However, when one asks that question, regarding religious, one may well argue that industrialization,
manufacturing, and smokestacks, is the religion of the United States. On the Mexican side are many
references to the history and the religion of Mexico. There is what appears to be a goddess statue
with two infants, a statue from ancient Aztec religions perhaps, and the ancient architectural elements
of Mexico. The entire natural presentation of Mexico is offered in a religious nature, even
incorporating a skull which could well relate to the Day of the Dead, a religious holiday for Mexico.
The religion of the United States, in this case, would be mass production, destruction of the earth,
and money.
The fact that Kahlo is in the center of the painting does not suggest any common ground, but rather
speaks, it would seem, of some internal struggle within Kahlo as she sees her nation influenced and
perhaps destroyed by the United States. She is clearly

Peach fuzz below her nose, unibrow perched upon her lower forehead, and thin, black hair; all of
these proponents make up Frida Kahlo's looks, but do not so easily make up her character and
symbolic nature. There is much to be said about Frida Kahlo and her spectacular work. Many people
see Frida not only as a master artist, which she is, but also a strong woman who never let the
struggles of her life get in the way of her dreams. Out of every painting she ever constructed, one of
her most captivating paintings was The Dream or El Sueno. This is a beautiful painting where Frida
took advantage of her beautiful and masterful painting style to express many different themes and
underlying tones. When it comes to this painting, there is a lot to ... Show more content on

In contrast with most of Frida's other paintings, this one actually depicts a few actual aspects. The
skeleton, for example, is something Frida truly had on top of her bed; It did not have fireworks
attached to it, but rather it was just a life–sized paper mache skeleton named "Juda". Frida often
referred to it as an "amusing reminder of mortality" and she used it for the same reason in this
painting. Like previously stated, the skeleton lacks fireworks in real life. Frida actually puts them in
to symbolize the suddenness of death and to emphasize her death was to be celebrated. The vines that
envelop her body are painted to represent not only life, but also rebirth. The woman in the bed is, in
fact, Frida and she looked sickly because, at the time this painting was made, Frida was close to
death. Frida, however, does not look sad or mournful, but instead, she looks simply content. The
colors used in this painting are bright and happy, something Frida wanted to use to depict a happy
and celebratory mood. Lastly, the bed appears to be floating in the sky, levitating towards heaven and
also showing the expansiveness of life and death, much like the sky is. The author of the article titled
Feel My Pain, Natasha Walters (2005), had this to say about how to interpret Frida's themes, "If we
want to read the art as the story of a woman, we have to be aware that we will never

Salsa Boom Essay
In the mid–1970s the New York Media warned the public to a Latin Boom in New York City. Back
then it was the Salsa Craze, the coming into view of a new wave of politicians and (people who use

Forty years and over a million Latinos later, we seem to be almost at the point of another boom,

Dominican Music and Film
The Caribbean island nation of the Dominican Republic is little known by most Americans, but
America is ever present in the Dominican consciousness. Until Sammy Sosa and Mark McGuire
went head to head in the legendary homerun battle of 1998, few Americans were aware of any
American–Dominican rivalry in western hemispheric culture. Nothing gave Dominicans more pride
than to see Sosa hold Major League Baseball's homerun record, albeit for less than 24 hours before
McGuire reclaimed U.S. dominance in "America's favorite pastime." Only merengue, a tropical

During the dictatorship, popular lyrics extolled the virtues of Trujillismo even as it was speciously
based on terror and rule by a mano dura (iron fist).
After Trujillo was killed in an assassination plot that many Dominicans deemed heroic (see next
page), merengue faced an uncertain future. Artists trained during the trujillato, including "king of
merengue" Johnny Ventura, summarily dropped the overt propaganda, but they emerged from the
Trujillo era with a heightened awareness of the power of their craft. Johnny Ventura would later
become an active political figure, and in 1998, win the mayoral election of Santo Domingo, the
capital and largest city of the Dominican Republic. In an interview in the summer of 2000, Johnny
Ventura asserts, "I believe getting involved—not just the artists—in the search for
solutions to the great wrongs and problems that we [Dominicans] face should be everyone's
obligation." Of course the great majority of Dominican leaders are non–artists, but Ventura's
statement highlights an assumption in Dominican culture that merengueros can make serious
contributions to Dominican society and politics.

Essay about Magic Empowers Women in La Casa de Los Espiritus
"Magic empowers women in La casa de los espíritus" Discuss. In Isabel Allende's first novel, La casa
de los espíritus the reader is introduced to her use of magic as a means which enables women to feel
"sustained in times of difficulty" and which "provides them with a power base" (Bennett, C.
2003:174). Interestingly, the women's connection with the spiritual and magical stands in contrast to
the men's rejection of anything that doesn't adhere to their strict perception of morbid reality.
Therefore, Allende quite clearly outlines "magical properties as essentially feminine" (Shaw, D.
1997:116) and spirituality in all its forms as a "province of the female of the species" (Hart, S.
2005:275) only. It can be argued that women and magic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though some critics are of the opinion that Clara is a passive character and her silences aren't exactly
magic, Marjorie Agosín argues that Clara "chose silence not out of passivity or fear but rather
because that was the only way for her to create her own space composed of hidden signs and signals"
(Agosín, M. 1984:36). It therefore represents a place for her to be alone with the spirits and creates a
safe haven away from the destructiveness and aggressiveness of her husband. Even though Agosín's
statement rejects Clara's passivity, it is possible to disagree on the basis that "she did not have
sufficient information, and possessed neither the power nor the tools necessary" (Allende, I. 1984:41)
to bring about her liberation–therefore she was forced to refer to what can be read as passive
resistance. As a result of this, Esteban is unable to connect with her and soon realizes that "Clara no
Interestingly Clara's dwelling in her
intrinsic reality and lack of engagement in political matters juxtapose to the orientations of her
granddaughter. Alba has a more pro–active and emancipated personality "turned [...] toward work,
politics and the preoccupations of present–day society" (Allende, 1984:40). When compared to

Essay On Alien Crime
Chapter II
Literature Review
According to Howitt, A. M., & Leonard, H. B. (2009), many disasters such as earthquakes, tsunamis,
forest fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, severe transportation accidents, and terrorist attacks typically
occur with relatively little or no advance notice in places and at times that are at best only roughly
predicted (p. 443). The U.S./Mexico UAC crisis however, was a result of a U.S. policy which was
difficult to foresee or determine. Considering that there are many sanctuary cities in America, and
apprehending a foreigner in the act of a crime is extremely complex in the American justice system.
According to the rule of law, petty crimes and misdemeanors are routinely processed, classified and
dealt with ease. However, murder and more heinous crimes are treated completely different in our
judicial legal system. If you are an American citizen, you could expect to be in a trial, which will
affect the rest of your life. But if you are an illegal foreigner (alien) and committed a criminal act,
many don't understand that international laws come into the decision making process. Protection
internationally, is a global right for anybody. When any illegal alien is ... Show more content on

The reform was related with Benito Juarez and Imperialism was releated with Maximiliano de
Hasburgo. Finally, the artist expressed the Porfiriato. It was denoted by the newspaper "EL
IMPARCIAL" one of the most important newspapers in those years. Therefore, the mural has a lot of
details and symbolism that focuses on the claim of Indigenas and on the social classes.
For this reason, is important know that the mural was painted during the presidency of Miguel
Aleman in Mexico. This period was relevant because he fought against the social classes such as
Diego Rivera. He was also interested in the equality between the workers and entrepreneurs. Another
important event was the reform of the third article in the constitution. In consequence, a lot of places
like Bellas Artes and other important culture centers was remodeled and opened for all the people.
Also, this reform prevented and combated the illiteracy in Mexico. The liberty of expression by the
artist given more respect and artists like Diego Rivera could paint murals about the government and
the injustice he experience from the government without a problem, except for some religious
groups.
In fact, this mural is an inspiration for all the Mexicans because it represented the most important

Neftalí Ricardo Reyes Basoalto, Famously Known As Pablo
Neftalí Ricardo Reyes Basoalto, famously known as Pablo Neruda, is a remarkable Chilean poet

Ultimately, in Neruda Chileans had someone who whom they could identify with above the
distinctive lives they all lived. It's easier to relate to someone who has been through similar things as
you specially coming from the same country because you are able to connect with them on a
different level. Between 1927 and 1935, "the government put Pablo Neruda in charge of a number of
honorary consulships, which took him to Burma, Ceylon, Java, Singapore, Buenos Aires, Barcelona,

orina, saliva).

Antonio is born both his mom and dad side of the family argue over what Antonio is planned to be
when he gets older. "This one will be a Luna,...,he will be a farmer and keep our customs and
traditions. Perhaps God will bless our family and make the baby a priest." (Anaya 5) said the old
man. Gabriel, Antonio's father and his people walk in and is told that he has a son. " He will make a
fine vaquero" (Anaya 5) someone who

Observation In A Classroom
I observed that Saint Cloud High School's facilities were flawless, and the green areas were well
kept, it has modern and innovative technology that provide students with permanent opportunities for
skill preparation. I also detected that the security is, for instance, well–intentioned to keep the
students safe. Surveillance cameras are installed throughout the building and the surrounding areas of
the school. The Mrs. Sanabria classroom was very organized and safe too. She used technology and
classroom physical resources cleverly because the way she fixed the classroom chairs that seemed
appropriate for her planned learning activities. One of the main advantages I noticed of having such
chairs setting is that she was able to address more often all her students. Consequently, the amount of
interaction between her and the learners was evenly distributed. From my point of view, the
instructional setting of this class was warm, open and tolerant. The overall setting of the classroom
was pleasant and productive. There were a good rapport and friendly balance between instructor and
learners interchange. Students' participation was dynamic and enthusiastic. The pupils also seemed
well–ordered, so the classroom rules must have been well–founded. No discrimination or unfairness
prevailed at all. The students seemed to get along and respect one another. Mrs. Sanabria attitude
always looked confident, and she is continually looking at herself reflectively to assess situations and

Not a lot went on during the Spanish Renaissance but if something happened it would probably
would have had something to do with theater. The Spanish Renaissance was also known as the
golden–age or in other words a time of great happiness. Spanish Renaissance is defined by very few
historical events, theater, and the play La Vida Es Sueño. During the Spanish Renaissance "Madrid
was a relatively sleepy, provincial town perched high on a central plain of Spain in 1561"
("Renaissance"). In 1561 Madrid became the center of the royal government ("Renaissance"). After
Madrid became the center of government it also became the home of the most vigorous theater life
by 1600 ("theater"). Spain was slowly improving piece by piece. Although it ... Show more content

The average Madrid Theater could hold about 2,000 people until 1620 when an enormous auditorium
about a third of the theater in London gave Madrid about 130,000 inhabitants ("Renaissance"). The
plays would start at different times according to season. In the summer they started at 4p.m. and in
the winter they showed around 2p.m. due to limited sunlight ("Renaissance"). A popular theater was
the Corral de la Cruz (Brockett 200). Sacramental plays aimed to teach the tenets of Counter–
Reformation Catholicism and secular drama was undergoing a dramatic expansion during the
Golden–Age ("Theater"). By the 1650's the payment for the major playwrights had increased to
about 800 reals (Brockett 198). Some of the popular actors included Damien Arias de Penafiel,
Cosme Perez, and Jusepa Vaca (Brockett 199). The Spanish Renaissance was also defined by many
plays and play writes. One of the major play writes is Pedro Calderón de la Barca. He was born on
January 17, 1600 in Madrid (Pedro). He was born into minor nobility of Madrid and received an
early education from the Jesuits ("Theater"). Calderón intended to become a lawyer, but he
eventually turned to writing play while serving the constable of Castile in his 20's ("Theater"). Some
of Pedros major works are El Medico de su Honra, La Vida es Sueño, El Alcalde de Zalamea, and La
Hija del Aire (Pedro). Calderón also wrote operas and plays with religious and mythological themes
(Pedro). The majority

La Antigüedad Del Mundo Poem Analysis

  • 1. La Antigüedad Del Mundo Poem Analysis Here, the poet implies the concept of the life absurdity through using special grammar structures in order to show trivia and the insignificance of living. As a result of the conditions of the world and the fear and hatred toward death shown in these quatrains, the poet reaches to the result that all things have the same value which leads to the idea of the meaninglessness of everything including the world. ‬ ‫و‬ ‫اميدم‬ ‫محدث‬ ‫و‬ ‫قديم‬ ‫ز‬ ‫كي‬ ‫تا‬/.‫عظيم‬ ‫است‬ ‫خطائي‬ ‫معشوق‬ ‫و‬ ‫مي‬ ‫بي‬ ‫پس‬/،‫مقيم‬ ‫دهر‬ ‫درين‬ ‫ما‬ ‫مقام‬ ‫نيست‬ ‫چون‬ )93(.‫قديم‬ ‫چه‬ ‫محدث‬ ‫چه‬ ‫جهان‬ "Como no será eterna nuestra estancia en el mundo,/ gran error es vivir sin vino y sin amante;/ ¿qué importa si ha tenido principio el universo?/ ¿qué más da, si me voy, la antigüedad del mundo? While Khayyam has a negative and pessimistic viewpoint to the life in some of his ruba'is, on the whole, he comes to terms with life as it is rather than exhausting himself in the futile quest for the meaning of life and the world. It should be considered that Khayyam was not an illiterate person. He was a great mathematician and an astronomer who knew a lot about the space and the position of human beings in the world. In this sense, he as a scholar felt nothingness in the huge area of the existence and being. Consequently, Khayyam as an active nihilist prefers living even in a purposeless world rather than committing suicide. He prescribes a general prescription for his fellowmen. One which motivates them to live but not to think deeply about the existence since it will deteriorate a common person's life because he will be unable to understand and justifies his presence on the Earth which can lead to chronic feelings of emptiness and in its extremist form to committing suicide. For Khayyam, life is enjoyment and carpe diem, which means 'seizing the day', because you don't know whether you will be alive tomorrow or not. His idea is that now that we are here and we don't know anything about our future and we can't change our past, let's live in the moment and be happy. To transfer a ... • 2. • 3. Summary Of Julia Alvarez's Poem Bilingual The Poem Bilingual was written by Julia Alvarez. Bilingual is about a woman telling us her struggles of being bilingual–"speaking two languages". She is from Dominican Republic. The bilingual sestina is about the feeling you have when there are two languages in your head and words won't translate fast enough. The two–languages & two–cultures are ultimately mixed together and changes on both sides. The stanza line that says –"Gladys, I summon you back with your given nombre"...reflects a lonely, longing feeling. The author doesn't understand English Languages as well as the Spanish Languages. She yearns for that connection and understanding that she got with the Spanish language which Is dear to her heart. In the poem, the author talks about ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
Transborder Organizations: Back To The United States Zenaida Guerrero LALS 100 December 12, 2017 Erik Bernardino @5:20 Transborder Organizations Transnationalism can be understood fairly simple. The prefix Trans– refers to "across" or "beyond" and nation refers to home country/state. Therefore, Transnationalism is understood as the relationships across and beyond people of different societies and nations that are withheld by migration. When migration occurs there is a chain reaction from the moment the individual leaves its country and begins a new life elsewhere which typically would be the United States. This system is interconnected not only from the homeland to the U.S, but also it reciprocated from the U.S and back to the nation state. Both sides of the spectrum are what ... • 6. We Often Fall In Love With People And Think Long And Hard We often fall in love with people and think long and hard about what it is that we really love about them. Is it their smile? Personality? Laugh, maybe? The eyes? We can all agree that we all have the same problem. That we can't exactly explain "why" we love the person. Well in this case, sonnet XVII, Pablo Neruda loves his beloved from the inside, not the outside features. Pablo Neruda was born in Chile and his sonnets are originally written in Spanish. He published the 100 Love Sonnets in 1959. He had an affair with his second wife with Matilde Urrutia. Later, they got married in 1966, but they have been together since 1946. Apparently, Urrutia is the inspiration for 100 love Sonnets. So let's assume that the sonnets are about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Looking at the original Spanish version, we see the rhyme scheme. The octave lines end with the words topacio, fuego, oscuras, alma, lleva, flores, cuerpo, and tierra." The rhyme scheme is aabc cbac. The sestet lines end with the words dónde, orgullo, manera, eres, mía, and sueño. These words give the sestet a rhyme scheme of bac bca." With this writing style, in this case, free verse, Neruda is able to convey the message effectively. Through his words and style of writing, we can get an idea of what kind of guy he is. In the first stanza, he describes what love is not. Neruda says "I don't love you as if you were a rose of salt, topaz, or arrow of carnations that propagate fire." Here he uses nature to describe what love is not. But again, later we see that he uses plants to declare his love. Moreover, the rose of salt is a reference to a type of rose that grows by the ocean. A carnation usually symbolizes purity of love and affection and a topaz is a mineral that comes in many colors. The first two lines indicate that his love for his partner is not the same as the love one has for materialistic things or flowers. The line "I love you as one loves dark things, secretly, between the shadow and the soul." Neruda suggest what his emotional placement of love is. It is deep in his soul and heart. He describes his love to dark things, but what does he mean by that? It makes me think that there is something ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Article Analysis : ' Global Woman ' By Barbara Ehrenreich The book "Global Woman" edited by Barbara Ehrenreich and Arlie Russell Hochschild focuses on the lives of women that leave their third world country to work in homes as nannies or servants and others even sex work. These women take on that labor without knowing what results will come from their desperate action. The authors explain and recount the stories of many of the women whom have had to sacrifice their lives. These women sacrifice it all to provide for themselves and their families and give them a better life, this is told through different chapters. The chapter that I selected to focus on was " Selling Sex for Visas: Sex Tourism as a Stepping–Stone to International Migration" by Denise Brennan. The primary argument and main point of the author is some females in the Dominican Republic sex work for necessity, leaving behind their children and family in look for a better life. According to the book "Global Women" (pg 154) Dominican women travel to Sosua to work in the sex trade. There, they charge around 500 pesos ($11 American dollars) for each encounter with European male tourists. These women don't operate through pimps and aren't trafficked, or make part of the drug trade. This gives these women the chance to manage their earnings and their working conditions. This allows them to be able to send money for their children's expenses since regular jobs only make them about 1000 pesos a month ($22 American dollars). The regular jobs they could get since their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Transnational Cultural Resistance Transnational cultural resistance is similar to Leisy Abrego argument on Salvadorian Identity because of culture and power as being inclusive to borders and family dynamics being linked across various barriers. In relation to Abrego and Stephens argument about survival and resistance, the power of matriarchy in both these communities exemplifies the leadership of women as the driving leaders of revolutions. The construction of borders are mechanisms to not only divide communities, but also creates a structural system which includes and excludes identities as a way to impose white supremacy. The exclusion of people is linked to policies that are anti–indigenous and highlights the irony of American domination, which pushes people out of their homeland and restricts access to migration. Organizing against these borders and structures of power becomes complex considering communities are torn apart and positioned into oppressive realities. However, indigenous resistance to the dominant forms of power lies within their ability to mold an identity and sustain a movement of resistance. Collective actions, according to Stephen, references the power of grassroot organizing, which reveals the necessity of change to be connected to local movements because structural change is a process that begins with a foundation. Lynn Stephen, director of the center for Latino/a and Latin American Studies at the University of Oregon, argues in her book Transborder Lives: Oaxacan Indigenous Migrants ... • 10. Summary Of El Sueo De La Malinche The above image is a painting by Antonio Ruiz and is called "El sueño de la Malinche" meaning "The Dream of Malinche". It depicts a Mexican town within the Aztec Empire, that is built upon a resting woman named Malinche. The image depicts the woman sleeping with the the Mexican city lying on her, therefore with one toss or turn being catastrophic to the city, and is further depicted to have lightning striking her head, which means to further risk the Mexican City being destroyed by Malinche's action. Spanish explorers accompanied by soldiers led expeditions inland throughout South and present day– Latin America in the early 16th century. The Spanish were searching for a suitable Spanish colony that both represented Spain, and did not require the building of new cities from the ground up; but rather they wanted a solid foundation of a urban centre to build off of. The Aztec capital city of 'Tenochititlan' was the answer to these Spanish desires. Before arriving at the famous gates of Tenochititlan, the Spanish overtook the Tobasco region amongst many others, and as a form of tribute upon losing the battle, gifts were presented to the Spanish Conquistador, Hernan Cortes. Amongst these gifts were a group of 20 young slave–girls, the most notable and beautiful, according to writings of the time, was Malinche. Hernan Cortes noticed the beauty of Malinche, and soon gifted her to his friend Puertocarrero. Although, Puertocarrero was on his way back to Spain and left his gift ... • 12. Essay About Immigration Growing up, the topic of immigration has always sat heavy on both my heart and mind. I am a child of a deportee; I have lost time, support, and a male figure in my life due to the growing social concern that is immigration. In 2018, as racial tensions are at an all time high and many of our political offices do not favor the idea of immigration I believe it is the work of members of the Hispanic communities in America to fight for our people and their freedom in the United States. I believe there are many ways of which I, as a member of a Hispanic community and a proud Hispanic, can and will bring change to help solve the topic of immigration in the U.S. One of the ways I believe I can make an impact on this social concern is informing people, both Hispanic and non–Hispanic, of the problems my people face and encouraging people to vote in elections to support government officials who care and will push for change regarding topics of immigration. I believe this is an effective tactic to if not solve immigration completely then make a monumental impact on this social concern. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This will bring change by opening up job opportunities for Hispanics, raising the annual income of Hispanic families, and bringing more Hispanics toward the idea of acquiring a post high school degree. • 18. Reflection On Francisco De Quevedo Christopher Johnson's visit for our class on Francisco de Quevedo was a significant addition to our ongoing discussion regarding the Baroque, as he was not only able to provide insights into our critical reading of Quevedo's work–as a scholar of the Baroque and translator of his poetry–but also posed questions and concerns that will undoubtedly continue to guide our thinking as we move from the Baroque to the Neo–Baroque. Starting from the premise of the Baroque as an aesthetic that demands some kind of meta–disciplinary work, I was particularly interested in Johnson's emphasis on the idea of polarity. Although we had previously discussed the presence of a polarity of sorts in some of the texts we have read, Johnson's attention to the term, emerging from Spitzer's essay, has prompted my thinking towards not just the presence, but the development of this concept throughout. In Luis de Góngora's Soledades, we see violent contrasts of the ascendant and the degrading vision. Sor Juana's Primero sueño takes us on a voyage of the soul that escapes the body, and on a voyage of the internal universe of the body that seems to facilitate the escaping of the soul. Quevedo's poetry showcases both a skillfully mastery of the poetic structures and elements, yet conjugates this with often time very un–poetic topoi that emphasizes the scatological. I am eager to see how these polarities manifest themselves in the neo–baroque writings of Lezama Lima and Severo Sarduy, for example, but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Undoubtedly one of history's great artists in regards to painting and etching, Francisco de Goya is no exception to this legend. The images created after his brush with death that left him deaf, and especially those painted during the final years of his life known as the "Black Paintings", certainly suggest that his vision grew keener with the loss of his hearing. A closer look at his career proves that Goya always possessed a keen eye for depicting people and the world around him as they truly were, even before disease stripped him of his hearing. Velázquez's great works such as Las Meninas and The Surrender of Breda show a grandeur and sophistication of the Spanish nobility as well as "preparations...not only to end the war, but also to initiate the peace that follows," (Velazquez). Unfortunately, even a century before Goya would truly begin the height of his artistic journey, "shadows lie across most of [Velazquez's] canvases, as if Velázquez sensed what his sitters did not – that the tide had turned against Spain," (Schickel 7). The skeleton, for example, is something Frida truly had on top of her bed; It did not have fireworks attached to it, but rather it was just a life–sized paper mache skeleton named "Juda". Frida often referred to it as an "amusing reminder of mortality" and she used it for the same reason in this painting. Like previously stated, the skeleton lacks fireworks in real life. Frida actually puts them in to symbolize the suddenness of death and to emphasize her death was to be celebrated. The vines that envelop her body are painted to represent not only life, but also rebirth. The woman in the bed is, in fact, Frida and she looked sickly because, at the time this painting was made, Frida was close to death. Frida, however, does not look sad or mournful, but instead, she looks simply content. The colors used in this painting are bright and happy, something Frida wanted to use to depict a happy and celebratory mood. Lastly, the bed appears to be floating in the sky, levitating towards heaven and also showing the expansiveness of life and death, much like the sky is. Back then it was the Salsa Craze, the coming into view of a new wave of politicians and (people who use action and strong words to support or argue (against) something), and the going past of the one million (dividing lines/points where things begin or change) in the Latino population. • 33. Dominican Music and Film Essay Dominican Music and Film The Caribbean island nation of the Dominican Republic is little known by most Americans, but America is ever present in the Dominican consciousness. Until Sammy Sosa and Mark McGuire went head to head in the legendary homerun battle of 1998, few Americans were aware of any American–Dominican rivalry in western hemispheric culture. Nothing gave Dominicans more pride than to see Sosa hold Major League Baseball's homerun record, albeit for less than 24 hours before McGuire reclaimed U.S. dominance in "America's favorite pastime." Only merengue, a tropical music and dance form, exceeds baseball in its ability to raise Dominican nationalist sentiment vis–à– vis the United States. For years, Dominican musicians and ... After Trujillo was killed in an assassination plot that many Dominicans deemed heroic (see next page), merengue faced an uncertain future. Artists trained during the trujillato, including "king of merengue" Johnny Ventura, summarily dropped the overt propaganda, but they emerged from the Trujillo era with a heightened awareness of the power of their craft. Johnny Ventura would later become an active political figure, and in 1998, win the mayoral election of Santo Domingo, the capital and largest city of the Dominican Republic. In an interview in the summer of 2000, Johnny Ventura asserts, "I believe getting involved—not just the artists—in the search for solutions to the great wrongs and problems that we [Dominicans] face should be everyone's obligation." Of course the great majority of Dominican leaders are non–artists, but Ventura's statement highlights an assumption in Dominican culture that merengueros can make serious contributions to Dominican society and politics. • 34. Essay about Magic Empowers Women in La Casa de Los Espiritus "Magic empowers women in La casa de los espíritus" Discuss. In Isabel Allende's first novel, La casa de los espíritus the reader is introduced to her use of magic as a means which enables women to feel "sustained in times of difficulty" and which "provides them with a power base" (Bennett, C. 2003:174). Interestingly, the women's connection with the spiritual and magical stands in contrast to the men's rejection of anything that doesn't adhere to their strict perception of morbid reality. Though some critics are of the opinion that Clara is a passive character and her silences aren't exactly magic, Marjorie Agosín argues that Clara "chose silence not out of passivity or fear but rather because that was the only way for her to create her own space composed of hidden signs and signals" (Agosín, M. 1984:36). It therefore represents a place for her to be alone with the spirits and creates a safe haven away from the destructiveness and aggressiveness of her husband. Even though Agosín's statement rejects Clara's passivity, it is possible to disagree on the basis that "she did not have sufficient information, and possessed neither the power nor the tools necessary" (Allende, I. 1984:41) to bring about her liberation–therefore she was forced to refer to what can be read as passive resistance. As a result of this, Esteban is unable to connect with her and soon realizes that "Clara no le pertenecía y que si ella continuaba habitando un mundo de aparecidos [...] lo mas probable era que no llegará a pertenecerle nunca" (La casa de los espíritus, 108). Interestingly Clara's dwelling in her intrinsic reality and lack of engagement in political matters juxtapose to the orientations of her granddaughter. • 35. Essay On Alien Crime Chapter II Literature Review According to Howitt, A. M., & Leonard, H. B. (2009), many disasters such as earthquakes, tsunamis, forest fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, severe transportation accidents, and terrorist attacks typically occur with relatively little or no advance notice in places and at times that are at best only roughly predicted (p. 443). The U.S./Mexico UAC crisis however, was a result of a U.S. policy which was difficult to foresee or determine. Considering that there are many sanctuary cities in America, and apprehending a foreigner in the act of a crime is extremely complex in the American justice system. According to the rule of law, petty crimes and misdemeanors are routinely processed, classified and dealt with ease. However, murder and more heinous crimes are treated completely different in our judicial legal system. If you are an American citizen, you could expect to be in a trial, which will affect the rest of your life. But if you are an illegal foreigner (alien) and committed a criminal act, many don't understand that international laws come into the decision making process.
