Leadership
Studie

mit Umfrageergebnissen vor
Global Industrial Leadership Survey Released Stanton Chase Posts White Paper of Survey
Results
Stanton Chase macht sämtlichen Umfrageergebnisse zur
globalen industriellen Führungsebene zugänglich. Das
komplette Weißbuch mit dem Titel „2013 Global
Industrial Executive Survey: Leadership Strategies for
Stanton Chase International is making all of the findings of
its survey of global industrial leaders available to the
international business community. The complete White
Paper, entitled 2013 Global Industrial Executive Survey:
Leadership Strategies for Accelerating Growth, is now
available for download on the Stanton Chase website.
Die Studie wurde von Stanton Chase Partnern aus
Nordamerika und Europa zwischen Juni und Juli 2013
durchgeführt und erfasst mehr als 450 Senior Executives
des globalen Industriesektors. Sie zeigt, dass die Industrie
sich verändert, vielleicht aus der Notwendigkeit heraus
nach einigen schwierigen Jahren neue Ansätze für
Wachstum und Profitabilität zu finden.
The survey was directed by Stanton Chase Partners from
North America and Europe in June and July of 2013 and
engaged more than 450 senior industrial sector executives
from around the world.
organischem
Wachstum
des
Kerngeschäfts,
Produktentwicklung und neue Märkte hin. Investitionen in
Technologie scheinen von Zielen wie Entwicklung der
Kernkompetenzen,
Kundenerfahrung
The survey reveals a shift within the global industrial sector.
It appears the industry itself is changing, perhaps driven by
the need to find new approaches to growth and profitability
after some difficult years.
Sector Resurgence: The survey shows evidence of an
industrial sector with a more confident and positive
outlook. Though there are challenges, and international
competition is intense, the sector is investing in growth.
Focus on Organic Growth: The survey shows evidence of a
shift away from growth by acquisition, and towards organic
growth of core business – product development and new
markets. A high priority for investments in technology
appears to be driven by goals in core competency
development, customer experience, and quality/efficiency.
Reshoring: The survey shows evidence of a trend to
reshoring in the industrial sector – moving some
manufacturing back to home country locations.
However, the survey also reveals a fourth trend which may
threaten future growth. That trend is a significant
leadership shortage which will have a detrimental effect on
growth and profitability of the sector if it is not addressed.

4. Russische CEO’s vorsichtig optimistisch im
Hinblick auf zu erwartendes Wachstum
Russian CEOs Cautiously Optimistic About
Future Growth
Executive Officers from Russian companies are
generally upbeat about the current state of Russia's
economy, but a large proportion have only moderate
expectations for its future development prospects, a
study conducted by executive search firm Stanton
Chase International found.
Mehr als 85% der Studienteilnehmer bewerteten 2013 als
erfolgreich, jedoch waren die gleichen Personen bei
Prognosen für das nächste Jahr zurückhaltender.
Während 40% der Befragten die Aussichten für 2014 als
optimistisch oder sehr optimistisch beurteilten, gaben
39.1% eine neutrale Antwort und 19.2% waren
pessimistisch.
Over 85 percent of the survey's participants assessed
2013 as successful, but their forecasts for the next
year were more cautious. While over 40 percent of
those surveyed think the economic prospects for
2014 are either somewhat or very optimistic, 39.1
percent gave a neutral response and 19.2 percent
were pessimistic. In the opinion of top managers the
largest growth is expected in the areas of consumer
goods, natural resources and information
technology. The lowest expectations were in the
public and industrial sectors, the study found. Less
than half of the companies involved in the survey
said they searched for candidates for top managerial
positions exclusively in Russia, while 17 percent of
firms said they also look for managers in the former
Soviet republics.
Sowjetrepublik suchen. Von den befragten Unternehmen
gaben 13% an, dass sie Bewerbungen unabhängig von
derern geographischer Herkunft annehmen.
CEOs waren Frauen. Der typische CEO in Russland ist ein
Mann zwischen 40 und 49 Jahren, der seine derzeitige
Position seit fünf oder mehr Jahren innehat.
Thirteen percent of companies said they accept
applications from anywhere. Over 75 percent of
Russian CEOs said they would be willing to relocate
for positions in Western Europe. Only 10 percent of
the 275 CEOs surveyed were women. The typical CEO
in Russia is a man between 40 and 49 years of age,
who has worked in his current position for five or
more years, the study found.

5. Der Konkurrenz
vorausbleiben
entscheidenden
strategischen
Frage
auseinanderzusetzen.
The Real Diversity Challenge: Stay ahead of
your competition
There is growing evidence that diversity should be much
more to your company than an abstract interest in equity
or opportunity. Business globalization and changes in
society around the world have resulted in an
environment in which the firm that does not address
issues of diversity is putting much more at risk than its
reputation with women or minorities. Today, the nondiverse firm is probably risking financial and
organizational performance and long-term sustainability.
How has diversity emerged as such a key issue for
business? One reason is the growing body of evidence
that diverse organizations are outperforming their
competitors. Another is that the failure to address
diversity runs counter to real trends in both business and
society, and the companies that don’t adapt will simply
be left behind. Smart companies are starting to
experience diversity as a significant competitive
advantage.
Diversity has become an important strategic issue for
businesses. More than that, it is an issue where
leadership by companies can achieve not only important
community benefits, but business gains at the same time.
Why is gender diversity the most critical strategic
issue?
Gender diversity is the core of the diversity issue.
Companies that fail to address gender diversity,
specifically the balance of women in their workforce and
in management and leadership roles, are failing to
address a crucial strategic concern.
The issue isn’t simply the under-representation of women
in leadership roles. It is the contradiction with the
increasingly important role of women in the world
outside of business.

These statistics speak for themselves:
80 per cent of household buying decisions around the
world are now made by women. It is difficult to imagine
how a company can best respond to its market needs if
there are no women at the decision level.
80%
häuslicher
Kaufentscheidungen
Unternehmen,
die
mehr
Frauen
in
Führungspositionen haben möchten, müssen
Bewusstsein und Verständnis für diese implizieten
Vorurteile schaffen. Wenn Vorurteile identifiziert
wurden, müssen Unternehmen hart daran arbeiten
diese Verhaltensweisen abzulegen. Das Versäumnis
diese Vorurteile anzusprechen bewirkt den Abgang
potentieller
weiblicher
Führungskräfte.
Die
Unternehmen bleiben mit einem selbst verursachten
Problem zurück.
According to the OECD, 59 per cent of all college and
university degrees worldwide are now being obtained by
women. If a business is not looking to fill technical,
leadership and management positions with women, it is
cutting itself off from a large segment of qualified talent.
Bias, whether cultural, sociological or organizational,
needs to be recognized as being at the heart of this ironic
and somewhat nonsensical situation. Though many
women are hired at entry- or middle- level positions, as
they move through their careers and become potential
candidates for senior positions, there is noticeable
attrition and we don’t see them in the upper levels of
management. This is happening around the world.
Organizations and leaders may not be aware of or even
conscious of their bias, but it is at the core of the attrition
issue. Bias is given by organizations in many subtle ways,
and it is received by women in just as many.
Awareness of this bias is essential to addressing it. The
classic example is in the perception of female leaders and
managers. Assertiveness is generally seen as an essential
quality in many management environments. When a
man is assertive he is seen as a leader. But when a
woman is assertive in the same manner, she risks being
seen as inappropriately aggressive. So she is in a double
bind situation, one that prevents her to be perceived or
assessed as a potential leader.
Companies seeking to have more women in leadership
and management need to look seriously at building
awareness and understanding of these implicit and
inherent biases. And when those biases are identified and
shared, the companies need to work just as hard at
changing behaviors throughout the organization. It is
probably a great frustration to many CEOs, who have
identified this issue as a roadblock to organizational
performance, that changing these behaviors is so
difficult.
Failure to address these biases is what causes the
attrition of women from leadership. The reality is that
women depart subtly and quietly without fanfare or
claim of bias. They just leave, and organizations are left
with a problem of their own construction.

Stanton Chase to strengthen presence in India
Chase International (SCI) Partnerschaft beigetreten
ist. Dieser Schritt stellt eine signifikante
Bereicherung
des
Dienstleistungsangebots
arbeiten
bereits
an
einigen
wichtigen
Suchaufträgen zusammen“, sagt George Cross,
Chairman von SCI. CHC wird von Dr. Bish Agrawal
geleitet,
der
einer
der
erfolgreichsten
Jahr 2009. CHC ist heute Indiens am schnellsten
wachsendes Executive Search Unternehmen. Das
Head Office befindet sich in Kolkata, weitere Büros
in Mumbai, Neu Dehli und Bangalore. „Unsere
Stanton Chase is pleased to announce that Chairman’s
High Circle (CHC) group of executive search offices in
India has joined the Stanton Chase International (SCI)
partnership. This move significantly enriches the
service coverage within India for SCI’s multinational
clients. It will also provide CHC’s India offices with
access to SCI’s worldwide network which will enhance
CHC’s service to clients within India.
„Die indische Wirtschaft ist eine der am
schnellsten wachsenden, daher ist dies ein
wichtiger Schritt für SCI und unsere Klienten. Da
die indische Business Community immer aktiver in
der globalen Wirtschaft wird, werden nicht nur
mehr indische Führungskräfte rekrutiert, sondern
es steigt auch die Nachfrage nach internationalen
Managern durch indische Unternehmen“ erklärt
Cross. Stanton Chase India bietet Dienstleistungen
in allen Stanton Chase Practice Groups.
“This is a win-win move for both SCI and CHC and we
could not be more pleased. We are already working
together on several major client searches,” says
George Cross, SCI International Chairman. CHC is led
by Dr Bish Agrawal, who is one of India’s most
successful, accomplished and recognized business
leaders. “Bish” launched his recruitment firm ABC
Consultants in 1969, and spun off Chairman’s High
Circle (CHC) to focus exclusively on executive search in
2009. CHC is now India’s fastest growing executive
search firm with eight consultants and 30 staff
operating from its head office in Kolkata, and wellestablished offices in Mumbai, New Delhi and
Bangalore. “Our vision is to become India’s preeminent retained executive search firm,” says Agrawal,
“and joining the Stanton Chase International
partnership group is a major step towards achieving
this goal.” “The Indian economy is one of the fastest
growing in the world, so this is an important move for
SCI, for CHC and for our clients,” says Cross. “As India’s
business community becomes increasingly active in the
global economy, there will
be not only more
recruitment of Indian executives by multinationals, but
also more demand by Indian corporations for
international talent as they go global,” Cross explained.
CHC will shortly be rebranded as Stanton Chase India,
and will offer services in all Stanton Chase practice
groups.

In the last fiscal year, 44 percent of executives and
board members reported a rise in total compensation,
according to the 2013 Executive Compensation Survey
released today by BlueSteps, a service of the
Association of Executive Search Consultants (AESC).
The AESC BlueSteps survey of 778 executives was
conducted in September 2013 and included responses
from CEOs, CFOs, Board Members, Senior VPs, VPs and
other management worldwide, including 53 percent
from the Americas, 35 percent from EMEA and 12
percent from Asia/Pacific. Additional findings of the
report include:
The average C-suite base salary among global
executives surveyed decreased 8.8 percent year-over
year from 2012 to 2013, while director level (nonboard) middle management salaries have increased 4.6
percent during the same period. Of executives
surveyed who reported a rise in total compensation,
the greatest percentage (41.8 percent) reported an
increase of one to five percent, followed by 26.6
percent of executives had an increase of six to 10
percent. Only 10 percent of executives reported
increases above 20 percent.
The survey also revealed that the gender pay gap may be
narrowing at the executive level. The average base salary
difference between executive men and women was only
$22,075 in the last fiscal year. Eighty eight percent of
executives surveyed would not accept a pay cut if their
roles required less travel. “This BlueSteps report highlights
the inconsistencies in perception about C-suite executives,
in contrast to the high profile cases of robust corner office
salaries,” said Peter Felix, President and CEO of AESC. “On
the contrary, for most senior executives in our survey
salary increases and bonuses have only modestly begun to
rise after the financial crisis.” “Revenue expectations,
headcount reductions, and other challenges have put
major strains on this level of executive,” Mr. Felix added.
“Boards and top management should be concerned when
the executive talent shortage hits harder in the postrecession phase and executive mobility picks up.”
