The 1986 Oscar winning film Platoon (Stone) is a classic example of this genre and why it is

the film's main focus is on his life during the war, and the mortality issues he must find a way to
deal with. Platoon also includes all four of the narrative elements necessary to fit into this genre.
The first and third narrative elements, the suspension of morality during times of war and the rivalry
between men, while displayed throughout the film, becomes prevalent when his platoon discovers a

In Tim O'Brien's "The Things They Carried", O'Brien created several allusions that each character
endured during the Vietnam War. Throughout the story were vast representations of the things the
soldiers carried both mentally and physically. The things they carried symbolized their individual
roles internally and externally. In addition to the symbolism, imagination was a focal theme that
stood out amongst the characters. This particular theme played a role as the silent killer amongst Lt.
Cross and the platoon both individually and collectively as a group. The theme of imagination
created an in depth look of how the war was perceived through each character which helped
emphasize their thoughts from an emotional standpoint of being young men out at war.
Imagination hindered the platoon which clouded their judgment and decision making. Instead of
remaining focused their wandering mind lacked what was necessary, assessing the task at hand. "In

Juana was forced to leave Mexico by her parents because they wanted a superior life for her which
left her heartbroken. Many migrate to the U.S for a better life, but for Juana, this was her biggest
fear. She loved the country she was born in, and the city that build her. However, she realized how
amazing it is to face a new world and the mysteries you can discover. She was living in a world
filled with joy, laughter, and peace. Her childhood was her favorite memorable moment in Mexico.

not, it is difficult to avoid. We experience pressure because of standards that others expect us to
accomplish. While some people may do well under pressure, many of us do bad under pressure.
The Kimberly Girls Volleyball team will experience a lot of pressure as they head into the State
tournament this weekend. Expectations are very high for them because they have had a lot of
success so far this season. I talked to a girl who is currently on the varsity volleyball team that is
going to state. Payton is not a starter and doesn't get to see the court often but she is just as
important as anyone else on the team. She discussed with me some of the expectations that coaches
and fans have for them. "Every game our coach always tells us not to be satisfied, and that's kinda
our team moto. I definitely think that's the expectation from our coaches is to not be satisfied with a
win or how we played just to always make it better. I believe the expectation from the fans is just to
stay positive and work as hard as we can. "
With expectations high from the coaches and fans, this can add a lot of pressure and stress onto the

far in their season because they are not satisfied after one game, they want to win more and be

I also talked to a fan, Quinn Johnson, and asked what he thought the pressures were on the girls this
year. He replied with: "I think this season the pressures are there own standards. Last years team was
not as good so other teams and fans did not expect so much out of them. But after we won the FVA
this year and got the #1 seed for the playoffs more pressure was added to the team coming into

It's hard to believe it was only two years ago. Two years ago that I saw my at the time favorite
country artist in concert. My mind was racing with thoughts before and after the show. I had so

The current refugee scene is facing many complications. The challenges these individuals face while
moving to a new country has encouraged us to focus our project on providing refugees with the
assistance they need to succeed. Exploring different areas such as connections and services through
an interview process has given us a better insight into what path to take to better accommodate
refugees with the challenges in their current country. When conducting interviews our group kept in
mind the practicality of the refugee's situation. Since for many individuals, this time in their lives is

The novel "Looking for Alaska," is narrated by John Green from the perspective of Miles Halter
(A.K.A Pudge). The novel tells a phenomenal story about a boy who is striving to find his

The Silent Killer: An Analysis of Imagination Evolving into a Distraction in Tim O'Brien's "The
Things They Carried"
In Tim O'Brien's "The Things They Carried", O'Brien created several allusions that each character
endured during the Vietnam War. Throughout the story were vast representations of the things the
soldiers carried both mentally and physically. The things they carried symbolized their individual
roles internally and externally. In addition to the symbolism, imagination was a focal theme that
stood out amongst the characters. This particular theme played a role as the silent killer amongst Lt.
Cross and the platoon both individually and collectively as a group. The theme of imagination
created an in depth look of how the war was perceived through each character which helped
emphasize their thoughts from an emotional standpoint of being young men out at war.
Imagination hindered the platoon which clouded their judgment and decision making. Instead of
remaining focused their wandering mind lacked what was necessary, assessing the task at hand. "In
some respects, though not many, the waiting was worse than the tunnel itself. Imagination was a
