Bullying Is A Common And Serious Issue
What is teachers' role in the school?
Bullying is a common and serious issue in many schools these days and bullying is not only the
United States' but also in other countries' problem. Basically, bullying prevents students from feeling
safe in schools and also it prevents developing positive self–concepts. The longer bullying goes on,
the more the students are affected. In handling bullying problems, teacher's role is the most
important to prevent bulling because teachers can directly interact with all students in their classes.
Therefore, teachers should be aware of the possibilities of bullying all the time and have abilities to
stop bullying in their classes. However, many teachers do not know how to deal with the problem
and do not even notice there is bullying in their classes unless bullying is explicitly revealed.
Teachers need to find effective ways of dealing with bullying in their classes to help their students.
Social interactions in school are very important to children. Through interactions with peer groups,
Children develop their emotional stabilities, social skills and positive self–concepts. Therefore, the
experiences of alienation from peers can be traumatic for children and damage their emotional,
academic and even physical developments. According to the U.S Department of health and Human
Services (DHHS), 1 in 3 U.S students day they have been bullied at school. In the United States, the
bullying problems are increasing. According to Bullying Statistics,

Common Issues Involving Nonprofit Organizations
Common Issues Involving Nonprofit Organizations Many Nonprofit Organizations experience
difficulties in developing capacity for several reasons. Most rely on external funding (government
funds, grants from charitable foundations, or direct donations) to maintain their operations.
Disruptions in these revenue sources may influence the reliability or regularity with which the
organization may hire and retain employees, sustain facilities, create programs, or maintain tax–
exempt status. For example, universities that engage excessively in for–profit ventures may lose
their exemption. Also, unreliable funding, long hours and low pay may contribute to significant
employee attrition. Congress acknowledged the needs of nonprofit organizations by

Obesity : A Common Underlying Issue On Today 's Society
Obesity: a common underlying issue on today's society, yet then again it is an issue profoundly in
front of our face. One could inquire the reasoning behind a hamburger, greasy and fat, being less
expensive than a nutritional healthy salad, and one could honestly answer in saying that they would
not know. It is easy for parents to go grab a kid's meal, cheaper too, which the option of cooking
and/or eating something healthy is soon weighed out as an option of being time consuming. It is
very apparent that children are more overweight and obese in the present than in the past. Childhood
obesity has doubled in children and quadrupled in adolescents in the past 30 years (Childhood
obesity causes & consequences 1) Along with the physical change, there are many health risk that
can be involved when a child is obese. Immediate health issues include: risk factors pertaining to
cardiovascular disease, increasing chances in having pre diabetes, and higher risk of having bone
joint problems (Childhood obesity causes & consequences 1). In the long run, the obese children
will become obese adults, therefore greater risk for adult health problems such as heart disease, type
2 diabetes, stroke and several types of cancer (Childhood obesity causes & consequences 1). Since
children are heavily dependent on their parents and guardians, parents play a vital role in the
development of their child; so it is the parents' responsibility to insure that their child is a healthy
weight by taking

Importance Of Common Stock By John Locke
When dealing with a common stock within a society, one would assume that taking from the
commons would leave other people worse off than they were before. However, this is not the case
according to John Locke. In the beginning of Locke's Second Treatise on Civil Government (1690),
he acknowledges that all men are "equal and independent, no one ought to harm another in his life
liberty or possessions" (§ 6). This raises the question of whether taking from the commons harms
another person's interest or not. According to Locke, the common stock is everything that "God, as
King David says (Psalm 115:16), 'has given the earth to the children of men'" (§ 25). Locke argues
that taking from the commons would not affect the other people in society negatively, but it would
instead enhance the value of the commons themselves. Locke utilizes the abundancy of the
commons and the theory that applying one's labor to an object taken from the commons raises the
value of the common stock.
The First Objection to the Thesis Locke's first argument is that the commons are so abundant that
there is no need to worry about depleting resources. While discussing appropriation in the commons,
Locke infers that "no man's labour could subdue or appropriate all, nor could his enjoyment
consume more than a small part" (§ 36). One man alone could not subdue all the objects in the
commons, but what does this mean when everyone is appropriating? This raises an issue as
resources in a society are never

Common Issues Highlighted in “The Outsiders” and “Saints...
Common issues highlighted in "The Outsiders" and "Saints and Roughnecks":
"The Outsiders" is one of the favorite movies of teenagers made by Francis Ford Coppola in 1983.
(Barsanti, 2010). "Saints and Roughnecks" is a paper written by William J. Chambliss which was
first published in 1978. (Chambliss, n.d.). Both of them commonly point towards one issue i.e.
future of individuals in the society is decided by the way they are treated by the materialistic society
which tends to favor the richer and suppress the poorer to the extent that the latter are pushed into
social exclusion. "The Outsiders" and "Saints and Roughnecks" form part of the vast literature that
has preserved the different standards of justice for the rich and the poor, that ... Show more content

They can use their own cars to commit the crime in other cities without getting the local police catch
them, while it is not possible for the poor criminals without the car to escape the suspicion of the
local community. Thus, it is easier for the rich to indulge in criminal activities and keep out of the
reach of police than the poor.
The way an individual is perceived or labeled in the society has a big role in deciding his future. If
one knows how to carry oneself in the public, the public would accept one and overlook one's
delinquencies. But this never means that others who are just not as good at hiding their
delinquencies are worse. As in the Outsiders, Ponyboy and his mates were socially excluded just
like the Roughnecks, yet they were kind enough to risk their own lives to save the life of others.
They were considered bullies, however their concern and feelings for humanity is evident from their
efforts to save human life. In the materialistic society in which we live, people exclude such
individuals from the social circle, whose physical offences are easily noticeable. Thus, their chances
of improvement are minimized and their future is usually dark as anticipated.

Sex Trafficking : A Common Issue For A Long Time
Sex trafficking can happen everywhere. People do not even realize when it is happening. Someone
could be living their life, just as they normally do, and decided to go to the mall. Sometimes they
may not even know that a little kid is going to be kidnapped, and later raped. This is what sex
trafficking is. Sex trafficking is commonly defined as when violence, drugs, lies, or any other form
of coercion is used to force another person to have sex against their will. (Sex Trafficking in the U.S,
1) Sex trafficking is becoming a bigger issue more and more each day. As a society, sex trafficking
needs to be known about by everyone so we could prevent, and eventually stop sex trafficking. Sex
trafficking has been a common issue for a long time. The first time sex trafficking became an issue
was in the 1700's. At this time sex trafficking was often known as 'white slavery.' White Slavery was
defined as when a woman or a girl would have been captured by force, drugs, or dishonesty, and
would be used for sex which is unwanted by the girl. Sex trafficking really has not changed since
then. Another event that made sex trafficking more popular was the slave trade. Some slaves would
come from Africa to the United States and be used for sex. The slaves would not know that they
would be used for sex, meaning that it is forced open them. There have been many attempts to
prevent sex trafficking in the pass. The first attempt, was made by Great Britain. Great Britain made

Common Health Issues Of Refugees And Asylum Seekers
Common Health issues of Refugees and Asylum Seekers Refugees and asylum seekers are forced
migrants. (Wahoush EO, 2009). The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)
estimates that in 2012 there were 23,000 people on average a day forced to leave their homes and
seek protection as a result of conflict or persecution, with 46% of these, children. (United Nations
High Commissioner for Refugees [UNHCR], 2013). In the same year, Australia resettled 5,937
refugees. It was the third overall and second on a per capita basis and relative to national GDP
("Refugee Week"). In the process of being forced to migrate from their country of origin and resettle
in a totally different country, refugees and asylum seekers face a multitude of challenges. Some will
have spent many years in refugee camps or have spent time in detention Often they have had little or
no healthcare access, either in their country of origin or in the country they subsequently fled to, an
experience shown to have negative health outcomes (Pottie K, Janakiram P, Topp P, McCarthy A. ,
2007 & Pieper HO, Clerkin P, MacFarlane A. , 2011). In these camps they may have experienced
overcrowding, violence, poor nutrition and hygiene leading to infectious disease and poor medical
care (NSW Refugee Health Service, 2002). If they have spent long periods in these camps, they may
have developed depression, anxiety or passivity (Silove D, Steel Z, 1998). Many refugees suffer

Common Issues In Latin America, By Jorge Luis Borges
Latin American Literature Essay
"Nothing is built on stone; all is built on sand, but we must build as if the sand were stone," Jorge
Luis Borges. This shows that in Latin America there is no strong, sound, or even semistable
foundation for the people and government there. Therefore, they are forced to do the best they can
with what they have. This will, can, and has caused multiple problems in Latin America.
Consequently, most Latin American authors use their works and influences to enlighten others on
these issues. Most of Latin American literature is written with similar purposes due to these common
issues found in Latin America. Some of these include poverty, corruption, and identity or worth.
Allusions of these are found in most of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They try to convey this through showing what poverty is truly like and what it can do to people,
showing the corruption of the governments that they are ruled and controlled by, and by showing
how lost a person get and how much losing yourself can hurt. No matter who it is, everyone has a
voice. It's just a matter of whether they use it or not. "On our shadowy earth each man is Adam: with
him the world begins, with him it ends," (Paz, 344). Everyone gets a choice, but not everyone will
make the right one. "Nothing is built on stone; all is built on sand, but we must build as if the sand
were stone," Jorge Luis Borges. While no one may have a strong foundation and some buildings will
sink, that has never meant that no one should try. It may take nearly forever, but eventually
something will stay above ground. Until then, everyone should keep building. That way we are all
working towards the same thing, the same goal. Latin American literature shows us how to keep
moving, but not everyone listens. In conclusion, this literature was written with the purpose of
informing us, but whether we listen or not makes the

Change Progress and Prosperity
Change Progress and Prosperity The Harvest took place in a small, secluded, and self–reliant
agricultural community in England, before the industrial revolution. The novel was based on
change, growth, progress and prosperity. The village, as the narrator Walter Thirsk stated was, "far
from everywhere" (Crace, 3) and isolated from the world. The village was also fragmented and
missing any development of identity. The "commons" were the people living in the unnamed
village. The "commons" way of life changed from harvesting and plowing to extracting wool for
clothing. Jim Crace examined the themes of change and fragmentation by the loss of identity and
way of life through the use of symbols, characters, and imagery. In the Harvest, symbolism was
evident throughout the novel. Symbols are commonly used to add richness and depth to the story.
The author used symbols to develop the main themes of change and fragmentation. During the
course of the novel, the most significant symbols included: fire, crops, ghost, unfinished cross,
quills, sheep, wool, and the rock. In the novel, fire was the most impactful symbol. The novel started
with two fires and ended in one. "What starts with fire will end with fire" (Crace, 198). The element
of fire represents a variety of meanings such as: passion, hope, anger, devastation, and betrayal. In
the beginning of the film, fire represented betrayal and devastation. "Two twists of smoke at a time
of year too warm for cottage fires surprise us

The Issues Of Diversity, The Common Good And The. Essay
The status quo is something that seemingly flawed according to many political theorists. In the
writings of Chantal Delsol, The problems of Diversity, the common good and the
Grappling with the idealism and realism, Chaantal Delsol adopts the ideas of many political
theorists to paint a picture of ideal international politics by discussing war and international law
from a lens of an idealist while embracing the principles of realism when evaluating morality.
When discussing all topics, Delsol consistently pushes the need for diversity and how it is necessary
for political life and achieving the common good – Aristotle. Delsol argues that it is "secret dream of
Western Europe since at least the twentieth century, the dream of replacing politics." (Unjust Justice,
102) She points out that there can be no politics if there was a homogenous international law or
morality Quoting memorie du ma ,tentation du bien, Delsol points out that "several conceptions of
the good can coexist,"(36) which furthers her point on international law pointing out that it
"imposes" (36) one truth on all people and banishes the opportunity to discuss what is good. The
greater issue to Delsol, is that the makers and the securers of international law develop into the
conscience of the international community which can quickly turn into a despotism which lies its
ideas on either Eastern or western culture. International law, Delsol argues, has the potential to
eradicate all political action because of

Persuasive Speech
I'm Henry Jefferson and this is how school changed my life.
It was a warm sunny day in March, everything was normal or so I thought. I got up at 6:00 a.m
sharp. I took a shower, then got dressed and ate breakfast. Once I was done with breakfast I did my
hair and brushed my teeth. Then, I went to my bus stop and got on the bus. I go to Guava Middle
School in Montana. It is a nice school with good teachers. Most of the kids that go to our School are
pretty wealthy, so we have nice things.
When I walked into the commons my friends told me a rumor "Hey Henry did you hear that Champ
was going to come to school with a gun and shoot it up?" Mark asked. Mark is a really good friend
of mine that I have known since Kindergarten.
"WHAT, we should go tell the office right now. This could be a real danger to our school." I said.
" Quit being such a wuss. He's just doing it to scare us. Plus, where would he even get a gun at?"
Jackson stated.
" I'm not being a wuss." I yelled. "I'm just worried that he will shoot us because of what we did to
him."
"What did we do to him that would make him shoot up the 8th grade?" Mark asked.
"Do you not remember? We 'bullied' him and beat him up for taking my lunch money." I said,
starting to get annoyed.
"Oh yea now I remember now." Mark and Jackson said.
"Yea this could be a real threat we should tell the office." I said again.
"Yea, lets go after first period." Mark said. Just then the bell rang and everyone in the commons

Ethical Issues Of Business Are Common
Ethical issues in business are common. However, some people believe that if they just follow the
law, that business will be ethically robust. "No matter how important, the law cannot and should not
solve all the difficult issues which currently confront business people" (Cracium, 2015, p.43).
Following the law does not always ensure morally sound decisions. Companies and each of their
employee's make choices that can have ethical implications. "Ethical standards play a specific and
irreplaceable part in the decision–making process involved in a fair market economy" (Cracium,
2015, p.44). We will take a closer look into the details surrounding an ethical issue for the well–
known company, Apple in this paper in detail. The issue defined In March of this year, it was
reported that the U.S. Department of Justice and FBI have taken Apple to court in efforts to make
the engineers to de–encrypt an iPhone (Brant, 2016). The reason behind the federal government
needing the engineers to develop a backdoor through the encryption is because of the attacker in a
mass shooting in San Bernadino, California last year (Brant, 2016). However, if Apple would create
this encryption backdoor, the company's resources would take a significant impact due to how long
it would take for them to create this workaround and engineers threatening to leave the company
rather than undermining the security software they created (Brant, 2016). The basis of the issue

Common Issues In Romeo And Juliet
During a person's life, they will come across people whom they will like and dislike. Some adults
try to get along with people like a co–workers or siblings. These relationships may or may not lead
to disagreements. The play, Romeo and Juliet, had characters who would get along well. But in
other cases, certain characters disliked each other and did not solve their problems correctly. The
way a character acts or the actions they take can affect the audience's way of interpreting the play
and the lesson the people understand. The two major themes in Romeo and Juliet were love and
hate. As the audience pays attention to the play, they should start to see certain characters have a

Garrett Hardin Lifeboat Ethics Summary
Capitalism in Lifeboat Ethics: the Case Against Helping the Poor
"In a crowded world of less than perfect human beings, mutual ruin is inevitable if there are no
controls. This is the tragedy of the commons" (Hardin). In his excerpt, Garrett Hardin discusses the
responsibility of individuals to take care of earth's natural resources, such as parks, rivers, and
pasture lands. When treated as commons, where anyone and everyone is allowed access to them,
these specific resources will not receive proper care. The tragedy of the commons is a direct
outcome of a society that is lacking in control. This lack of control directly applies to Capitalism as
it is the solution to the issue. In this situation, the control is needed in the area of delegating ... Show

While this would be a great concept, the problem of individual users not performing their
responsibilities hinders such greatness. A world "of less than perfect human beings" is incapable of
protecting, preserving, and respecting natural resources without the assistance and presence of
control. The presence of Capitalism, a great example of mandated control, reprimands the power of
neglectful users to deplete and disrespect the natural resources that the Earth provides. Having the
control of these resources delegated to specific and private owners, instead of it being left to the
commons, will ensure for excellent care and proper treatment of the resources. Natural parks, rivers,
and pastures will greatly improve in their appearance and preservation if more users were aware of
and obedient to the need these sources have for proper care.
As suggested by Hardin, "One of the major tasks of education today should be the creation of such
an acute awareness of the dangers of the commons that people will recognize its many varieties"
(Hardin). He continues with how pollution is a result of air and water being treated as commons.
Without Capitalism, users who 'share' these commons refuse to take responsibility because they do
not have to. If users of resources would take Hardin's suggestion of further awareness and education,
there would be less misuse of natural

A Summary Of Traditional Religion In Society
Butler uses traditional religion in the novel to demonstrate the ways in which it can be a destructive
or constructive force in society. Butler demonstrates the dangers of dogmatic, authoritarian religion
when it is used as an excuse to ignore the needs of others and the changes in society. Religion is not
inherently a destructive force; it becomes a destructive force in Lauren's community when it is used
to control and limit thinking because of deference to church leaders such as Lauren's father. There is
no motivation to adapt or change. The religion in Lauren's neighborhood, led by her father, prevents
its members from moving forward as they believe "in a literal acceptance of everything in the Bible"
(Butler 23). The community's interpretation of the Bible does not help them adapt as society
changes. By taking the Bible literally rather than using it as a guide for understanding the world
around them, as an example of how to extend community to the people who have been ostracized,
the community uses religion as an excuse to focus on themselves rather than focusing on others with
further supports the neoliberalism in their society. Lauren's community is willing to leave the safety
of the community to have a baptism in "big tub of expensive water" (Butler 16). Lauren points out
that it would be less expensive and less dangerous to be baptized at home in a bath tub, but no one
pays attention to her idea. She writes, "to adults, going outside to a real church is like

Common issues in the English language are present in various forms of writing from professional

Common Good Argument
Galston (2013) claims that idea of the common good "has real content in theory and real utility in
practice", throughout his essay on the common good, he provides sufficient evidence to back his
main claim and he uses it to refute the arguments of others. He defines three key aspects of the
common good to support his claim of the common good having "real content in theory", these
include: 'Inherently social goods', 'Social linkages' and 'The good of the commons'. Galston (2013)
then proceeds to give evidence on the concept of bargaining and the U.S. Constitution; he uses these
examples to support his claim that the common good has "real utility in practice". I believe Galston

One example he gives based on inherently social goods is humor, "telling a joke to oneself is
virtually impossible, because humor requires surprise", as a result, this allows us to make the

good (humor in this case) would be lost. Galston (2013) states that 'The good of the commons' is
when how people behave in shared social spaces impacts others (p.11). "If we carelessly leave an
unextinguished fire in a camp–ground, the entire facility may go up in flames." (p.11), this shows
how the common good includes everyone's best interests and this example in fact shows that it does

My Husband And I Grew Up With A Common Issue
My husband and I grew up with a common issue, we never had a place that we could comfortably

issues such as out dated electrical and/or plumbing, located in an unsafe neighborhoods, and sharing

my husband and I both agree that owning a house in a great location that has been recently built

cheaper than buying a home from someone else. So, with this knowledge, I have designed a house

Obesity : A Common And Costly Health Issue Essay
Obesity have been increasing over the last 30 years, with high rates globally, and among all
economic levels. According to the National Conference of State Legislatures: Obesity, a common
and costly health issue that increases risk for heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and cancer, affects more
than one–third of adults and 17 percent of youth in the United States. By the numbers, 78 million
adults and 12 million children are obese–figures many regard as an epidemic ("Obesity Statistics in
the United States", 2014). The increased prevalence of obesity through the last years is not an
unexpected number, the world has change in personal, social and economic aspects, an inactive life
in front of tablets, television, or phones, increase daily, accompanied of lifestyles changes, unhealthy
diet habits, and scarce motivation for exercise. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
(CDC), release significant adult obesity facts: Non–Hispanic blacks have the highest age–adjusted
rates of obesity (47.8%) followed by Hispanics (42.5%), non–Hispanic whites (32.6%), and non–
Hispanic Asians (10.8%). Obesity is higher among middle age adults, 40–59 years old (39.5%) than
among younger adults, age 20–39 (30.3%) or adults over 60 or above (35.4%) adults ("Adult
Obesity Facts", 2015). Obesity is a critical issue linked with chronic, and life–threatening diseases,

X Common Filter Issues You Need to Know About Everyone who has a pool in their yard knows the
importance of their filter. Without it you end up with a disgust stew of warm green slim and bacteria

hazardous environment for you and your swimming buddies. Filters not only allow your pool to
maintain it's spot as your backyard's number one, aesthetically pleasing, focal point, but keep they

The amount of pressure in the pool's filter is a common problem among pool owners and can lead to
expensive repairs if not properly treated. It's important to note that while the pressure gauge can give
you a good idea of the pressure in your filter, it is not an exact number. The pressure gauge can
break or malfunction quite easily which can make determining the filter pressure a little difficult. On
all filter systems, the gauge should return to zero when the pump goes off but can get stuck. If this is
the case, a careful tap on the glass should help. The pressure on your filter can mean a series of
issues. If the gauge reads to low it could mean that there is a blockage before or after the filter. In
order to find the root of the problem, check your pump basket and pump impeller for any blockage.
If the pressure is too high then there is a blockage at or beyond the pool filter. In this scenerio, there
are three things that you need to look out for. A clogged filter A partially closed return valve An
obstruction inside of the heater Or, an obstruction inside the return

we are well into the new Millennium society has begun to recognize serious concerns with issues
that teenagers have to deal with today. Some issues have always been there but are now coming to

experimentation. They tend to have more trust and confidence by thinking that they have enough
idea on what is good and what is bad. As for the parents, typical teen behavior includes many things
that seems strange them. I.e. colored hair, odd piercings, strange music, how you dress and even
new friends these are all part of growing up for some teens. And some teenagers choose this period
in life as time to experiment with alcohol, smoking, drugs, and sometimes sexual activities. Also,
According to Martin Green, Teenage years are a stressful time as the body goes through a number of
changes. The hormone your body begins to produce allows you to procreate, and they also change
your appearance as well as your behavior. Exams, dating, getting into college, death of a relative,
family instability, social pressures, arguments and pressures to achieve are some examples of the
causes of the stress that leads to hormonal imbalance in teenagers. And also, a

Environmental Issues Depicted in Hardin's "The Tragedy of...
"The Tragedy of the Commons" written by Garret Hardin explains how the human population is
degrading the environment. When Hardin refers to commons he is talking about a resource that is
owned by no one and used by a group of people. Some examples of commons include the air we
breathe, the water we drink, and the oceans we fish. The tragedy is that people don't look at the
bigger picture; the over use of commons for our own personal benefit leads to the destruction or
extinction of these commons. For example if one fisherman wants to fish the oceans as much as
possible that's fine, but now imagine if every fisherman wants to fish the oceans as much as they
can, this is one example of a common being destroyed by the human population. The ... Show more

Of course since my group "caught" all the M&M's we did not receive any more. In the real world
the same thing is happening. Fishermen are fishing violently so they can have the most for
themselves and so they can benefit and they do not once think of the bigger picture, they are
destroying the common and will eventually cause extinction. In Harding's article, he mentions a
quote similar to what I am saying above; 'As a rational being, each herdsman seeks to maximize is
gain. Explicitly or implicitly, more or less consciously, he asks "What is the utility to me of adding
one more animal to herd?" This utility has one negative and positive component.' The positive
component is that the herdsmen will receive more money. The negative component is that if every
herdsmen were to do the same they would end up destroying the common. Only when there is
ownership we can prevent destruction of the common, because when you own something and have
responsibility over it, you think about its future and how to use its resources responsibly. Here's
another quote that stood up to me "The population problem cannot be solved in a technical way, any
more than can the problem of winning the game of tick–tack–toe." What Hardin is trying to say is
that the population problem cannot be solved because we cannot control what people do, and if we
do create laws against

The Most Common Issues In American Society
American society has people from all walks of life. It does not matter what walk of life people come
from or what age group people are in. There can always be issues that arise. Those issues can be
from the environment of which they are a part of to the mindset of the individual. Many of those
people care more about what others think of them than they do themselves.
Sometimes the beliefs' of others play a large role and have a lasting impact on how people value
themselves. When that happens those people are too concerned with what they look like or how they
dress which causes further internal problems. In older individuals the car they drive or the type of
house in which they live seems to be the major factors that enters their minds. All of these things
together control the feelings of the person. The way a person feels about them self is called self–

I looked at the clock. I was 45 minutes early to basketball practice, waiting at the table. The
basketball was dribbling under my fingertips, at a steady 1–2–3–4 pace. Thud, thud, thud, thud. My
eyes wandered back to the clock. 42 minutes early from basketball practice.
Yelling. I heard a lot of yelling behind me. It sounded like little school girls playing on a
playground, enjoying themselves as they ran. As I turn my neck, I see four of my closest friends
talking loudly to each other. Possibly arguing with each other over something as pointless as a

They said I could just try it out and if I didn't like it I could drop out and never think about it again.
He agreed. My eyes widened as wide as saucers and I was at a loss for words. I wasn't nearly as
good at singing as my friends were and thought I wasn't good enough. I've never been in a musical,

wouldn't be judged, I gave in.
Once I finally picked a song, which took forever because I didn't want to sing out loud in front of

good enough? What if I forget the words? What if I pass out in front of the judge? What if I got an
extremely embarrassing voice crack during the song and die out of embarrassment? I looked at the

I stared at my friends, exasperated at how easily I let them convince me to do this. My heart was

Odontogenic Cyst Research Paper
Glandular odontogenic cyst (GOC) is an uncommon developmental cyst of the jaw thought to arise
from remnants of the dental lamina. Fatih ASUTAY1,Jahanshah In 1987, Padayachee and Van Wyk

There could be loss of cortical integrity too. ˙Ismail Akkas The histological features of GOC
strongly suggest an origin from the remains of dental lamina. The microscopic features are a cystic
cavity lined with non–keratinized, stratified, squamous epithelium, localized plaque–like
thickenings of the epithelium, variable numbers of mucous–secreting cells in the surface layer of the
epithelium, a tendency to subepithelial fibrous tissue formation, multiple cysts and the absence of
inflammation. The superficial layer of the epithelium consists of eosinophilic cuboidal cells (which
are sometimes vacuolated) that makes the surface irregular Hécio Henrique. Anuthama

potential, with a high incidence of cortical perforation, and a high rate of recurrence, especially in
cases which are treated conservatively. Amisha A.

Common Mental Health Issues
Common Mental Health Issues
People experience a variety of painful issues in their lives. From the beginning some issues are more
challenging than others, in part because of struggles with either addiction or depression. People who
manage their concerns are also managing them when they step into their daily jobs. The problems
people carry with them can affect their job performance and their relationships. Their compromised
attention can cause additional frustrations such as mistakes and missed work. This is a significant
problem businesses must address and some solutions have been discussed that offer the potential for
a plan of action.

Training
According to the Harvard Business Review, reducing the stigma associated with mental disorders
and consequently drug addictions, can encourage people seek the help they need to be healthier
employees and people. People who hold on to denial, who fear being "found out" and those that
have inadequate insurance coverage are less likely to get the help they need and continue costing
companies billions of dollars each year (Gelb & Corrigan, 2008). Coming up with a good training
program or series o sessions may help people learn to accept guidance.
Counseling
A group such as the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) can help people with a range of personal
problems, family matters, as well as financial and legal matters ("EAP supplies," 2010). Using a
good EAP service can even help managers work with individual employees. The training of
managers is as important as the training of the employees, because the managers are the first to see
the effects on productivity prior to seeing the issues to the bottom line of the business (ESI
Employee Assistance Group, 2010).
Conclusion
It is important that we consider the breadth of the issues surrounding strong mental health in the
workplace. Mental illness and addiction issues cost businesses billions of dollars each year and

Obesity Is A Common Issue
Obesity is a common issue, known throughout the world. In today's society obesity is increasing due
to the media, advertising, family, culture, cost, technology and peers. All of these factors each have a
significant reason as to why the obesity rate is increasing. Studies show that 27% of child between
12–15 are overweight or obese. The Media is a big thing for obesity. Body + Soul mums, is a
website about tips for mums and how technology is affecting their children. There studies show that
television is the reason why Australian diet and activity has changed. Through this direct quote from
body + soul mums"The relationship between obesity and television–watching is as true for the
preschooler as it is for the older child. The excess weight accumulates over the years, so the younger
a child starts logging up hours in front of the TV, the more years they have to accumulate fat" it
shows the effect of sitting in front of the television for too long. This statement has negative effects
on teenagers and kids because they are become inactive and their body isn't getting the fitness it
needs. Due to teenagers and kids watching the television for hours non–stop, there body are getting
use to doing it all day long whats makes it easier to acculate more fat and give a higher chance of
obesity. "As a group, foods advertised on TV are high in fat, saturated fat, protein, free sugars and

Analyzing Hershey's 'Tragedy Of The Commons'
Robert Hoyt 9/14/14
D' Alessandro 2 Tragedy of the Commons
ABSTRACT
This experiment was used to explore how finite resources can be used and exploited when they are
shared throughout a group because of personal greed. The "Tragedy of the Commons" is the
situation where individuals shared a resource with others, but use the resource for their personal
gain, disregarding the impact it could have on the rest of the group and the fact that it is a finite
resource. During the experiment, in Part I, I observed that at one point we were going to run out of

In Part II, I got different results because as a group we did not exploit the resources in either of the
ponds
In Part I, I took as many fish as I could, but in Part II, as a group we took only as much as we
needed to survive
If you cooperated that meant that everyone survived and the pond would not run out of fish.
In both the common and private pond I took only two fish so that the population of the pond would
reach carrying capacity for the start of each round.
Common usage can lead to exploitation because one of the members of the group could get greedy
and exploit the pond for everybody.
The ideal way to manage the common pond would be so that each party would only take what they
need so that the population of the pond could replenish for each round.
If I didn't know the students in my group I wouldn't want to communicate as much.
To avoid the "tragedy of the commons" there should be limits on how much of a resource people can
use over a certain time so that it doesn't get exploited.
If a new student joined my group we would not have been able to divide the fish up evenly to
everyone and that student might not have wanted to be as conservative as the rest of the people in

Obesity: A Common Issue In America
Obesity is a common issue in America. Obesity is defined as anyone having a body mass index of
30, and extreme obesity is the body mass index being 40 or greater. Obesity is such an issue because
it leads to health issues, such as heart disease and stroke, high blood pressure, diabetes, cancer,
gallbladder disease, gallstones, and many other diseases. These are all health aspects that will follow
people for the rest of their lives, but also will probably end up shortening it significantly. Obesity is
by no means an easy fix, but with longtime medic treatment it will decrease the frequency of
accompanying diseases and death rate. Obesity is accumulation of fat in the organism, which leads
to the increase of the surplus mass of the body by 20%

Ethical Issues Of Nursing Are Common And Ever Present
Clinical Reflection Paper Ethical issues in nursing are common and ever–present. Our jobs as
nursing students is not only learn medications and how to care for patients of all types, but also learn
what common ethical issues in nursing exist and how to correctly deal with them. One ethical issue I
came across more than once in clinical and in simulation was the presence of family and friends at
the bedside during patient assessments, compromising patient confidentiality and HIPAA regulations
as well as putting the nurse "on edge" and at higher risk for making a mistake. I chose this topic
because I myself did not realize I was possibly compromising patient confidentiality and privacy
when I came across the issue in simulation and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The final time I came across this issue in clinical was at St. Luke 's. A patient was just admitted to
the hospital for atrial flutter and their entire family showed up at the bedside. I had to perform vitals
as well as a full physical assessment and medication administration while they were there. Since I
had had Shar's simulation by this time, I managed to ask the patient if they were okay with their
family being present while performing my assessment. They had no problem with it, and I
proceeded with my assessment, although I felt like every movement I made was being watched, and
I felt distracted by they family asking questions about what I was doing and how it helped my
patient. It made me feel "on edge" and distracted, and I felt as though I was going forget something
in my assessment.
Preserving patient confidentiality and privacy is a moral responsibility of nurses (McCullough &
Schell–Chaple, 2013). Trying to figure out what information can be shared and who it can be shared
with, while attempting to keep family and friends up to date about a patient can be a confusing and
tricky feat (McCullough & Schell–Chaple, 2013).
In one article I reviewed, I found that one way to ensure patient privacy and confidentiality at the
bedside is to

Limitations and Common Issues with 3D Printing Essay
It would have been clear by now that 3D printing has some obvious advantages. However,
sensitivity to a number of considerations is needed when new boundaries are broken using science
and engineering. Following are the common issues that arises out of the emergence of 3D printing
Cost and Time
3D printing can't compete with mainstream manufacturing technologies with respect to cost and
time for manufacturing. It may take anywhere between a few minutes to several hours to
manufacture a product using 3D printing depending upon the material used, size and complexity. It
is also possible that 3D printing companies might lock in consumers through proprietary supply
chain channel which might increase the cost of ownership.
Limitations of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
"Most people do not yet realize that research is underway which involves not only printing non–
human cells, but also merging human cells with non–human cells. We think that once folks begin to
realize, depending on their backgrounds, there will be some who will be concerned about this
possibility," Gartner research director Pete Basiliere says [12]
The rapid emergence of 3D printing will also create major challenges in relation to intellectual
property (IP) theft. Gartner predicts that by 2018, 3D printing will result in the loss of at least $100
billion per year in IP globally [13]
Insurance Considerations
Since 3D printing is a disruptive industry, it is not easy to understand the future implications beyond
educated guesses. Since insurance industry typically needs historical data to calculate claims, they
have their work cut out with respect to calculating the claims that may arise out of this industry
category.
The potential claims can be a product liability including accidental injury/damage due to the 3D
printed product or legal liability due to IP issues [14].
With a supply chain which may not involve any physical products as designs and manufacturing
processes can be sent electronically,

The Common Workplace Issues Of Communication
Communication One of the most common workplace issues that most companies deal with at some
point in their business development is communication. Communication is one of the most important
skills needed to be successful in the business world, but it also can be one of the most difficult
things a company has to go through and learn how to do in both an effective and efficient way. Each
employee has a different personality and way of doing certain things, so in turn, each employee also
has his or her own way of communicating. To be an effective manager, one has to realize each
employee's way of communication and try to use that to benefit conversations and meetings in the
future. As John Kikoski stated in his publishing on effective communication, "Managers devote
more time to communicating on the job than any other activity. Approximately 75 percent of a
manager's day is spent communicating–listening, speaking, reading, and writing" (1993). Keeping
the lines of communication open are very important to keep a business successful and to also keep
the employees happy and satisfied with their jobs.
Communication in Effective Managers
The bosses and managers at my workplace all operate under the "open door policy," so all
employees are free to come into their offices when needed. Whether it be a question about a project,
a concern on one of our procedures, or to have a discussion about a new idea to help a process more
efficient, we are more than welcome to come talk with them. I

Common Alarm Issues/False Alarms
How to Avoid Common Alarm Issues/False Alarms
False alarms and other common alarm issues can compromise your home security and generate
increased expenses. Everyone knows about the boy who cried wolf, and it's just human nature that
your local police department might triage your alarm signal if they've sent patrol cars to investigate
several previous alarms that turn out to be unwarranted. Many police departments throughout
Virginia, North Carolina and the United States charge fees after responding to a certain number of
false alarms.[1] Depending on your city's size and departmental staffing, even short delays could
have catastrophic consequences. Reducing the instances of unwanted police alerts just makes good
sense regardless of your type of security system or alarm company.
Common Alarm and System Shortcomings
Your home might not have sufficient coverage for your needs because determined criminals use
sophisticated techniques to case homes thoroughly to exploit any weaknesses. If you don't cover
every possible entry into your home with sensors, you could be leaving a window open to criminals
both literally and figuratively. Other common alarm problems include:[2]

a false alarm goes off prematurely and is quickly shut off, most security companies send a

Bullying Is A Common And Serious Issue

  • 1. Bullying Is A Common And Serious Issue What is teachers' role in the school? Bullying is a common and serious issue in many schools these days and bullying is not only the United States' but also in other countries' problem. Basically, bullying prevents students from feeling safe in schools and also it prevents developing positive self–concepts. The longer bullying goes on, the more the students are affected. In handling bullying problems, teacher's role is the most important to prevent bulling because teachers can directly interact with all students in their classes. Therefore, teachers should be aware of the possibilities of bullying all the time and have abilities to stop bullying in their classes. However, many teachers do not know how to deal with the problem and do not even notice there is bullying in their classes unless bullying is explicitly revealed. Teachers need to find effective ways of dealing with bullying in their classes to help their students. Social interactions in school are very important to children. Through interactions with peer groups, Children develop their emotional stabilities, social skills and positive self–concepts. Therefore, the experiences of alienation from peers can be traumatic for children and damage their emotional, academic and even physical developments. According to the U.S Department of health and Human Services (DHHS), 1 in 3 U.S students day they have been bullied at school. In the United States, the bullying problems are increasing. • 3. Common Issues Involving Nonprofit Organizations Common Issues Involving Nonprofit Organizations Many Nonprofit Organizations experience difficulties in developing capacity for several reasons. Most rely on external funding (government funds, grants from charitable foundations, or direct donations) to maintain their operations. Disruptions in these revenue sources may influence the reliability or regularity with which the organization may hire and retain employees, sustain facilities, create programs, or maintain tax– exempt status. For example, universities that engage excessively in for–profit ventures may lose their exemption. Also, unreliable funding, long hours and low pay may contribute to significant employee attrition. Congress acknowledged the needs of nonprofit organizations by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Obesity : A Common Underlying Issue On Today 's Society Obesity: a common underlying issue on today's society, yet then again it is an issue profoundly in front of our face. One could inquire the reasoning behind a hamburger, greasy and fat, being less expensive than a nutritional healthy salad, and one could honestly answer in saying that they would not know. It is easy for parents to go grab a kid's meal, cheaper too, which the option of cooking and/or eating something healthy is soon weighed out as an option of being time consuming. It is very apparent that children are more overweight and obese in the present than in the past. Childhood obesity has doubled in children and quadrupled in adolescents in the past 30 years (Childhood obesity causes & consequences 1) Along with the physical change, there are many health risk that can be involved when a child is obese. Immediate health issues include: risk factors pertaining to cardiovascular disease, increasing chances in having pre diabetes, and higher risk of having bone joint problems (Childhood obesity causes & consequences 1). In the long run, the obese children will become obese adults, therefore greater risk for adult health problems such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, stroke and several types of cancer (Childhood obesity causes & consequences 1). Since children are heavily dependent on their parents and guardians, parents play a vital role in the development of their child; so it is the parents' responsibility to insure that their child is a healthy weight by taking ... • 7. Importance Of Common Stock By John Locke When dealing with a common stock within a society, one would assume that taking from the commons would leave other people worse off than they were before. However, this is not the case according to John Locke. In the beginning of Locke's Second Treatise on Civil Government (1690), he acknowledges that all men are "equal and independent, no one ought to harm another in his life liberty or possessions" (§ 6). This raises the question of whether taking from the commons harms another person's interest or not. According to Locke, the common stock is everything that "God, as King David says (Psalm 115:16), 'has given the earth to the children of men'" (§ 25). Locke argues that taking from the commons would not affect the other people in society negatively, but it would instead enhance the value of the commons themselves. Locke utilizes the abundancy of the commons and the theory that applying one's labor to an object taken from the commons raises the value of the common stock. The First Objection to the Thesis Locke's first argument is that the commons are so abundant that there is no need to worry about depleting resources. While discussing appropriation in the commons, Locke infers that "no man's labour could subdue or appropriate all, nor could his enjoyment consume more than a small part" (§ 36). One man alone could not subdue all the objects in the commons, but what does this mean when everyone is appropriating? This raises an issue as resources in a society are never ... • 9. Common Issues Highlighted in “The Outsiders” and “Saints... Common issues highlighted in "The Outsiders" and "Saints and Roughnecks": "The Outsiders" is one of the favorite movies of teenagers made by Francis Ford Coppola in 1983. (Barsanti, 2010). "Saints and Roughnecks" is a paper written by William J. Chambliss which was first published in 1978. (Chambliss, n.d.). Both of them commonly point towards one issue i.e. future of individuals in the society is decided by the way they are treated by the materialistic society which tends to favor the richer and suppress the poorer to the extent that the latter are pushed into social exclusion. "The Outsiders" and "Saints and Roughnecks" form part of the vast literature that has preserved the different standards of justice for the rich and the poor, that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They can use their own cars to commit the crime in other cities without getting the local police catch them, while it is not possible for the poor criminals without the car to escape the suspicion of the local community. Thus, it is easier for the rich to indulge in criminal activities and keep out of the reach of police than the poor. The way an individual is perceived or labeled in the society has a big role in deciding his future. If one knows how to carry oneself in the public, the public would accept one and overlook one's delinquencies. But this never means that others who are just not as good at hiding their delinquencies are worse. As in the Outsiders, Ponyboy and his mates were socially excluded just like the Roughnecks, yet they were kind enough to risk their own lives to save the life of others. They were considered bullies, however their concern and feelings for humanity is evident from their efforts to save human life. In the materialistic society in which we live, people exclude such individuals from the social circle, whose physical offences are easily noticeable. Thus, their chances of improvement are minimized and their future is usually dark as anticipated. Ponyboy and his friends of "The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Sex Trafficking : A Common Issue For A Long Time Sex trafficking can happen everywhere. People do not even realize when it is happening. Someone could be living their life, just as they normally do, and decided to go to the mall. Sometimes they may not even know that a little kid is going to be kidnapped, and later raped. This is what sex trafficking is. Sex trafficking is commonly defined as when violence, drugs, lies, or any other form of coercion is used to force another person to have sex against their will. (Sex Trafficking in the U.S, 1) Sex trafficking is becoming a bigger issue more and more each day. As a society, sex trafficking needs to be known about by everyone so we could prevent, and eventually stop sex trafficking. Sex trafficking has been a common issue for a long time. The first time sex trafficking became an issue was in the 1700's. At this time sex trafficking was often known as 'white slavery.' White Slavery was defined as when a woman or a girl would have been captured by force, drugs, or dishonesty, and would be used for sex which is unwanted by the girl. Sex trafficking really has not changed since then. Another event that made sex trafficking more popular was the slave trade. Some slaves would come from Africa to the United States and be used for sex. The slaves would not know that they would be used for sex, meaning that it is forced open them. There have been many attempts to prevent sex trafficking in the pass. The first attempt, was made by Great Britain. Great Britain made the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) estimates that in 2012 there were 23,000 people on average a day forced to leave their homes and seek protection as a result of conflict or persecution, with 46% of these, children. (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees [UNHCR], 2013). In the same year, Australia resettled 5,937 refugees. It was the third overall and second on a per capita basis and relative to national GDP ("Refugee Week"). In the process of being forced to migrate from their country of origin and resettle in a totally different country, refugees and asylum seekers face a multitude of challenges. Some will have spent many years in refugee camps or have spent time in detention Often they have had little or no healthcare access, either in their country of origin or in the country they subsequently fled to, an experience shown to have negative health outcomes (Pottie K, Janakiram P, Topp P, McCarthy A. , 2007 & Pieper HO, Clerkin P, MacFarlane A. , 2011). In these camps they may have experienced overcrowding, violence, poor nutrition and hygiene leading to infectious disease and poor medical care (NSW Refugee Health Service, 2002). If they have spent long periods in these camps, they may have developed depression, anxiety or passivity (Silove D, Steel Z, 1998). Many refugees suffer from psychological symptoms related to ... • 15. Common Issues In Latin America, By Jorge Luis Borges Latin American Literature Essay "Nothing is built on stone; all is built on sand, but we must build as if the sand were stone," Jorge Luis Borges. This shows that in Latin America there is no strong, sound, or even semistable foundation for the people and government there. Therefore, they are forced to do the best they can with what they have. This will, can, and has caused multiple problems in Latin America. Consequently, most Latin American authors use their works and influences to enlighten others on these issues. Most of Latin American literature is written with similar purposes due to these common issues found in Latin America. Some of these include poverty, corruption, and identity or worth. They try to convey this through showing what poverty is truly like and what it can do to people, showing the corruption of the governments that they are ruled and controlled by, and by showing how lost a person get and how much losing yourself can hurt. No matter who it is, everyone has a voice. It's just a matter of whether they use it or not. "On our shadowy earth each man is Adam: with him the world begins, with him it ends," (Paz, 344). Everyone gets a choice, but not everyone will make the right one. "Nothing is built on stone; all is built on sand, but we must build as if the sand were stone," Jorge Luis Borges. While no one may have a strong foundation and some buildings will sink, that has never meant that no one should try. It may take nearly forever, but eventually something will stay above ground. Until then, everyone should keep building. That way we are all working towards the same thing, the same goal. Latin American literature shows us how to keep moving, but not everyone listens. • 17. Change Progress and Prosperity Change Progress and Prosperity The Harvest took place in a small, secluded, and self–reliant agricultural community in England, before the industrial revolution. The novel was based on change, growth, progress and prosperity. The village, as the narrator Walter Thirsk stated was, "far from everywhere" (Crace, 3) and isolated from the world. The village was also fragmented and missing any development of identity. The "commons" were the people living in the unnamed village. The "commons" way of life changed from harvesting and plowing to extracting wool for clothing. Jim Crace examined the themes of change and fragmentation by the loss of identity and way of life through the use of symbols, characters, and imagery. In the Harvest, symbolism was evident throughout the novel. Symbols are commonly used to add richness and depth to the story. The author used symbols to develop the main themes of change and fragmentation. During the course of the novel, the most significant symbols included: fire, crops, ghost, unfinished cross, quills, sheep, wool, and the rock. In the novel, fire was the most impactful symbol. The novel started with two fires and ended in one. "What starts with fire will end with fire" (Crace, 198). The element of fire represents a variety of meanings such as: passion, hope, anger, devastation, and betrayal. In the beginning of the film, fire represented betrayal and devastation. • 19. The Issues Of Diversity, The Common Good And The. Essay The status quo is something that seemingly flawed according to many political theorists. In the writings of Chantal Delsol, The problems of Diversity, the common good and the Grappling with the idealism and realism, Chaantal Delsol adopts the ideas of many political theorists to paint a picture of ideal international politics by discussing war and international law from a lens of an idealist while embracing the principles of realism when evaluating morality. When discussing all topics, Delsol consistently pushes the need for diversity and how it is necessary for political life and achieving the common good – Aristotle. Delsol argues that it is "secret dream of Western Europe since at least the twentieth century, the dream of replacing politics." (Unjust Justice, 102) She points out that there can be no politics if there was a homogenous international law or morality Quoting memorie du ma ,tentation du bien, Delsol points out that "several conceptions of the good can coexist,"(36) which furthers her point on international law pointing out that it "imposes" (36) one truth on all people and banishes the opportunity to discuss what is good. The greater issue to Delsol, is that the makers and the securers of international law develop into the conscience of the international community which can quickly turn into a despotism which lies its ideas on either Eastern or western culture. International law, Delsol argues, has the potential to eradicate all political action because of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Persuasive Speech I'm Henry Jefferson and this is how school changed my life. It was a warm sunny day in March, everything was normal or so I thought. I got up at 6:00 a.m sharp. I took a shower, then got dressed and ate breakfast. Once I was done with breakfast I did my hair and brushed my teeth. Then, I went to my bus stop and got on the bus. I go to Guava Middle School in Montana. It is a nice school with good teachers. Most of the kids that go to our School are pretty wealthy, so we have nice things. When I walked into the commons my friends told me a rumor "Hey Henry did you hear that Champ was going to come to school with a gun and shoot it up?" Mark asked. Mark is a really good friend of mine that I have known since Kindergarten. "WHAT, we should go tell the office right now. This could be a real danger to our school." I said. " Quit being such a wuss. He's just doing it to scare us. Plus, where would he even get a gun at?" Jackson stated. " I'm not being a wuss." I yelled. "I'm just worried that he will shoot us because of what we did to him." "What did we do to him that would make him shoot up the 8th grade?" Mark asked. "Do you not remember? We 'bullied' him and beat him up for taking my lunch money." I said, starting to get annoyed. "Oh yea now I remember now." Mark and Jackson said. "Yea this could be a real threat we should tell the office." I said again. "Yea, lets go after first period." Mark said. • 23. Ethical Issues Of Business Are Common Ethical issues in business are common. However, some people believe that if they just follow the law, that business will be ethically robust. "No matter how important, the law cannot and should not solve all the difficult issues which currently confront business people" (Cracium, 2015, p.43). Following the law does not always ensure morally sound decisions. Companies and each of their employee's make choices that can have ethical implications. "Ethical standards play a specific and irreplaceable part in the decision–making process involved in a fair market economy" (Cracium, 2015, p.44). We will take a closer look into the details surrounding an ethical issue for the well– known company, Apple in this paper in detail. The issue defined In March of this year, it was reported that the U.S. Department of Justice and FBI have taken Apple to court in efforts to make the engineers to de–encrypt an iPhone (Brant, 2016). The reason behind the federal government needing the engineers to develop a backdoor through the encryption is because of the attacker in a mass shooting in San Bernadino, California last year (Brant, 2016). However, if Apple would create this encryption backdoor, the company's resources would take a significant impact due to how long it would take for them to create this workaround and engineers threatening to leave the company rather than undermining the security software they created (Brant, 2016). Garrett Hardin Lifeboat Ethics Summary Capitalism in Lifeboat Ethics: the Case Against Helping the Poor "In a crowded world of less than perfect human beings, mutual ruin is inevitable if there are no controls. This is the tragedy of the commons" (Hardin). In his excerpt, Garrett Hardin discusses the responsibility of individuals to take care of earth's natural resources, such as parks, rivers, and pasture lands. When treated as commons, where anyone and everyone is allowed access to them, these specific resources will not receive proper care. The tragedy of the commons is a direct outcome of a society that is lacking in control. This lack of control directly applies to Capitalism as it is the solution to the issue. In this situation, the control is needed in the area of delegating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While this would be a great concept, the problem of individual users not performing their responsibilities hinders such greatness. A world "of less than perfect human beings" is incapable of protecting, preserving, and respecting natural resources without the assistance and presence of control. The presence of Capitalism, a great example of mandated control, reprimands the power of neglectful users to deplete and disrespect the natural resources that the Earth provides. Having the control of these resources delegated to specific and private owners, instead of it being left to the commons, will ensure for excellent care and proper treatment of the resources. Natural parks, rivers, and pastures will greatly improve in their appearance and preservation if more users were aware of and obedient to the need these sources have for proper care. As suggested by Hardin, "One of the major tasks of education today should be the creation of such an acute awareness of the dangers of the commons that people will recognize its many varieties" (Hardin). He continues with how pollution is a result of air and water being treated as commons. Without Capitalism, users who 'share' these commons refuse to take responsibility because they do not have to. Butler demonstrates the dangers of dogmatic, authoritarian religion when it is used as an excuse to ignore the needs of others and the changes in society. Religion is not inherently a destructive force; it becomes a destructive force in Lauren's community when it is used to control and limit thinking because of deference to church leaders such as Lauren's father. There is no motivation to adapt or change. The religion in Lauren's neighborhood, led by her father, prevents its members from moving forward as they believe "in a literal acceptance of everything in the Bible" (Butler 23). The community's interpretation of the Bible does not help them adapt as society changes. By taking the Bible literally rather than using it as a guide for understanding the world around them, as an example of how to extend community to the people who have been ostracized, the community uses religion as an excuse to focus on themselves rather than focusing on others with further supports the neoliberalism in their society. Lauren's community is willing to leave the safety of the community to have a baptism in "big tub of expensive water" (Butler 16). When Hardin refers to commons he is talking about a resource that is owned by no one and used by a group of people. Some examples of commons include the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the oceans we fish. The tragedy is that people don't look at the bigger picture; the over use of commons for our own personal benefit leads to the destruction or extinction of these commons. For example if one fisherman wants to fish the oceans as much as possible that's fine, but now imagine if every fisherman wants to fish the oceans as much as they can, this is one example of a common being destroyed by the human population. Fishermen are fishing violently so they can have the most for themselves and so they can benefit and they do not once think of the bigger picture, they are destroying the common and will eventually cause extinction. In Harding's article, he mentions a quote similar to what I am saying above; 'As a rational being, each herdsman seeks to maximize is gain. Explicitly or implicitly, more or less consciously, he asks "What is the utility to me of adding one more animal to herd?" This utility has one negative and positive component.' The positive component is that the herdsmen will receive more money. The negative component is that if every herdsmen were to do the same they would end up destroying the common. Only when there is ownership we can prevent destruction of the common, because when you own something and have responsibility over it, you think about its future and how to use its resources responsibly. Here's another quote that stood up to me "The population problem cannot be solved in a technical way, any more than can the problem of winning the game of tick–tack–toe." The excess weight accumulates over the years, so the younger a child starts logging up hours in front of the TV, the more years they have to accumulate fat" it shows the effect of sitting in front of the television for too long. This statement has negative effects on teenagers and kids because they are become inactive and their body isn't getting the fitness it needs. Due to teenagers and kids watching the television for hours non–stop, there body are getting use to doing it all day long whats makes it easier to acculate more fat and give a higher chance of obesity. "As a group, foods advertised on TV are high in fat, saturated fat, protein, free sugars and salt, and low in fibre and some micro–nutrients. These are the kinds of food associated with ... Analyzing Hershey's 'Tragedy Of The Commons' Robert Hoyt 9/14/14 D' Alessandro 2 Tragedy of the Commons ABSTRACT This experiment was used to explore how finite resources can be used and exploited when they are shared throughout a group because of personal greed. The "Tragedy of the Commons" is the situation where individuals shared a resource with others, but use the resource for their personal gain, disregarding the impact it could have on the rest of the group and the fact that it is a finite resource. During the experiment, in Part I, I observed that at one point we were going to run out of Hershey's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Part II, I got different results because as a group we did not exploit the resources in either of the ponds In Part I, I took as many fish as I could, but in Part II, as a group we took only as much as we needed to survive If you cooperated that meant that everyone survived and the pond would not run out of fish. In both the common and private pond I took only two fish so that the population of the pond would reach carrying capacity for the start of each round. Common usage can lead to exploitation because one of the members of the group could get greedy and exploit the pond for everybody. The ideal way to manage the common pond would be so that each party would only take what they need so that the population of the pond could replenish for each round. If I didn't know the students in my group I wouldn't want to communicate as much. To avoid the "tragedy of the commons" there should be limits on how much of a resource people can use over a certain time so that it doesn't get exploited. If a new student joined my group we would not have been able to divide the fish up evenly to everyone and that student might not have wanted to be as conservative as the rest of the people in my ... • 68. Obesity: A Common Issue In America Obesity is a common issue in America. Obesity is defined as anyone having a body mass index of 30, and extreme obesity is the body mass index being 40 or greater. Obesity is such an issue because it leads to health issues, such as heart disease and stroke, high blood pressure, diabetes, cancer, gallbladder disease, gallstones, and many other diseases. These are all health aspects that will follow people for the rest of their lives, but also will probably end up shortening it significantly. Obesity is by no means an easy fix, but with longtime medic treatment it will decrease the frequency of accompanying diseases and death rate. Obesity is accumulation of fat in the organism, which leads to the increase of the surplus mass of the body by 20% ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 70. Ethical Issues Of Nursing Are Common And Ever Present Clinical Reflection Paper Ethical issues in nursing are common and ever–present. Our jobs as nursing students is not only learn medications and how to care for patients of all types, but also learn what common ethical issues in nursing exist and how to correctly deal with them. One ethical issue I came across more than once in clinical and in simulation was the presence of family and friends at the bedside during patient assessments, compromising patient confidentiality and HIPAA regulations as well as putting the nurse "on edge" and at higher risk for making a mistake. I chose this topic because I myself did not realize I was possibly compromising patient confidentiality and privacy when I came across the issue in simulation and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The final time I came across this issue in clinical was at St. Luke 's. A patient was just admitted to the hospital for atrial flutter and their entire family showed up at the bedside. I had to perform vitals as well as a full physical assessment and medication administration while they were there. Since I had had Shar's simulation by this time, I managed to ask the patient if they were okay with their family being present while performing my assessment. They had no problem with it, and I proceeded with my assessment, although I felt like every movement I made was being watched, and I felt distracted by they family asking questions about what I was doing and how it helped my patient. It made me feel "on edge" and distracted, and I felt as though I was going forget something in my assessment. Preserving patient confidentiality and privacy is a moral responsibility of nurses (McCullough & Schell–Chaple, 2013). Trying to figure out what information can be shared and who it can be shared with, while attempting to keep family and friends up to date about a patient can be a confusing and tricky feat (McCullough & Schell–Chaple, 2013). In one article I reviewed, I found that one way to ensure patient privacy and confidentiality at the bedside is to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 72. Limitations and Common Issues with 3D Printing Essay It would have been clear by now that 3D printing has some obvious advantages. However, sensitivity to a number of considerations is needed when new boundaries are broken using science and engineering. Following are the common issues that arises out of the emergence of 3D printing Cost and Time 3D printing can't compete with mainstream manufacturing technologies with respect to cost and time for manufacturing. It may take anywhere between a few minutes to several hours to manufacture a product using 3D printing depending upon the material used, size and complexity. It is also possible that 3D printing companies might lock in consumers through proprietary supply chain channel which might increase the cost of ownership. Limitations of ... "Most people do not yet realize that research is underway which involves not only printing non– human cells, but also merging human cells with non–human cells. We think that once folks begin to realize, depending on their backgrounds, there will be some who will be concerned about this possibility," Gartner research director Pete Basiliere says [12] The rapid emergence of 3D printing will also create major challenges in relation to intellectual property (IP) theft. Gartner predicts that by 2018, 3D printing will result in the loss of at least $100 billion per year in IP globally [13] Insurance Considerations Since 3D printing is a disruptive industry, it is not easy to understand the future implications beyond educated guesses. Since insurance industry typically needs historical data to calculate claims, they have their work cut out with respect to calculating the claims that may arise out of this industry category. The potential claims can be a product liability including accidental injury/damage due to the 3D printed product or legal liability due to IP issues [14]. With a supply chain which may not involve any physical products as designs and manufacturing processes can be sent electronically, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 74. The Common Workplace Issues Of Communication Communication One of the most common workplace issues that most companies deal with at some point in their business development is communication. Communication is one of the most important skills needed to be successful in the business world, but it also can be one of the most difficult things a company has to go through and learn how to do in both an effective and efficient way. Each employee has a different personality and way of doing certain things, so in turn, each employee also has his or her own way of communicating. To be an effective manager, one has to realize each employee's way of communication and try to use that to benefit conversations and meetings in the future. As John Kikoski stated in his publishing on effective communication, "Managers devote more time to communicating on the job than any other activity. Approximately 75 percent of a manager's day is spent communicating–listening, speaking, reading, and writing" (1993). Keeping the lines of communication open are very important to keep a business successful and to also keep the employees happy and satisfied with their jobs. Communication in Effective Managers The bosses and managers at my workplace all operate under the "open door policy," so all employees are free to come into their offices when needed. Whether it be a question about a project, a concern on one of our procedures, or to have a discussion about a new idea to help a process more efficient, we are more than welcome to come talk with them. • 78. Common Alarm Issues Common Alarm Issues/False Alarms How to Avoid Common Alarm Issues/False Alarms False alarms and other common alarm issues can compromise your home security and generate increased expenses. Everyone knows about the boy who cried wolf, and it's just human nature that your local police department might triage your alarm signal if they've sent patrol cars to investigate several previous alarms that turn out to be unwarranted. Many police departments throughout Virginia, North Carolina and the United States charge fees after responding to a certain number of false alarms.[1] Depending on your city's size and departmental staffing, even short delays could have catastrophic consequences. Reducing the instances of unwanted police alerts just makes good sense regardless of your type of security system or alarm company. Common Alarm and System Shortcomings Your home might not have sufficient coverage for your needs because determined criminals use sophisticated techniques to case homes thoroughly to exploit any weaknesses. If you don't cover every possible entry into your home with sensors, you could be leaving a window open to criminals both literally and figuratively. Other common alarm problems include:[2] Equipment or Battery Malfunctions Malfunctioning equipment or batteries can trigger alarms or fail when most needed. ... Children and house guests can also trigger alarms by not knowing the code or how to disengage the alarm. It's important to show anyone with a key how to arm and disarm the system. If a false alarm goes off prematurely and is quickly shut off, most security companies send a cancellation notice.
