Pound And Pummel In South Shilly Analysis
Put your hands beneath his armpits, bend your knees, wait for the clasp of his thinning arms; the
best lock cheek to cheek. Move slow. Do not, right now, recall the shapes he traced yesterday on
your back, moments before being wheeled to surgery.
Do not pretend the anxious calligraphy of touch was sign beyond some unspeakable animal
stammer. Do not go back further into the landscape of silence you both tended, with body and
breath, until it nearly obscured all but the genetic gravity between you.
And do not imagine wind now blowing that landscape into a river which spills into a sea. Because it
doesn't.
That's not this love poem. In this love poem the son trains himself on the task at hand, which is

Dawg Pound Mission Statement
It has been a busy couple of weeks for the Dawg Pound. As Spring moves into the air, the calendar
begins to fill up on what do to as an organization. The big news for Dawg Pound does not come
from an athletic standpoint, but actually from Student Senate. The organization was awarded
funding, which can be used towards various aspects and items in order to enhance the fan
experience at sporting events. This was an extremely important milestone for the organization,
because of how far E–Boards the last three years have fought for funding. The fact that I was the
standing President during this accomplishment is obviously rewarding, but once I found out about
the funding I called and thanked the previous Dawg Pound President prior to getting to

What Is The Devaluation Of The Egyptian Pound?
3. The exchange reform: The devaluation of the Egyptian pound in February 1991 was an effective
factor for cost–push inflation. It increased prices of imported goods and services the household cost
of production of goods and services.
To keep away from repetition, we might analyze the effect of wages on inflation in Egypt under the
demand pull factors. ERSAP usage does not increase real wages, and consequently wages ought not
to be considered as an inflationary component.
According to the author SamerKherfi (1994, November 01) said. The stabilization and structural
adjustment program in Egypt has prompted to lower inflation, reduced budget deficit, stable
exchange rate, and balance of payments surplus. In this context, the program has ... Show more

With the increasing trend of issuing treasury bills to finance the budget deficit and to sterilize
foreign capital inflow, and with the portfolio shift from foreign currency deposits to LE deposits,
and interest payments in domestic debt grew rapidly.
Considering the linkage between budget deficit and inflation the author Omnia A. Helmy(2008,
November) said. Budget deficit did matter as a determinant of inflation according to some empirical
studies on the nature and causes of inflation in Egypt. At the theoretical level, extensive literature
has argued that the inflationary impact of budget deficit relies on upon the effect of the shortage on
aggregate demand and the methods by which the deficit is financed. The "budget deficit–inflation"
interface displays a two–way communication. That is, not just budget deficit create inflationary
weight through its effect on cash totals and public expectations, additionally high inflation then has
a criticism impact pushing up the budget deficit. The relationship between budget deficit and
inflation is an important and controversial issue in the academic literature as well as in the economic
policy field.
According to what the authors Sultan Abou Ali, HalaAbou Ali and Johansen cointegration said they
have agreed that budget deficit is an independent factor that affects inflation rates. Also they agreed
that inflation rate is much related to GDP

Ezra Pound Response: "The Tree" by Ezra Pound is about how Pound identifies with the tree–like
state in which the nymph, Daphne, of Greek myth finds herself in order to escape Apollo. Pound
begins the poem explaining how he was a "tree amid the wood" meaning a changed being amid a
familiar yet under–perceived environment. He likens this form to the myth of Apollo who chases
Daphne until she asks the god, Peneus, to change her into a tree. Even though she is transformed
into a "laurel", which happens to be the Greek word for Daphne, Apollo is still able to recognize her
by the inner–beauty of the tree before him. He then claims the tree as his own, just as he would if
Daphne was still in her nymph ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first and last identical lines are, "The eyes of this dead lady speak to me." This repetition makes
me believe that he did not know who the lady was, but he feels a haunting connection to her
somehow. Pound recognizes a passion in the woman that is so strong, it is conveyed even from a
two–dimensional image of her. This must have meant that she moves Pound in a way he has
experienced before. His desire to feel this emotion again is no less just because she is dead. By
repeating the first line at the end of the poem, Pound drives home the strength of his feeling for the
woman considering that the entire poem is only four lines in total. The title does not give much
away about the poem except that it is about a picture. Nevertheless, it does tell that the picture
means something to Pound because he titled it "The Picture", not "A Picture" which would probably
be about pictures in general. Ezra Pound reveals his emotional side in this poem and demonstrates
his passion and perception of unspoken language. Ezra Pound explains his view on marriage in his
poem, "The Altar". He says in the first line "Let us build here an exquisite friendship." The exquisite
friendship is a symbol for marriage and the altar is the place where that marriage begins. He goes on
to call it "a place of wonder", because it is the place where the everlasting bond is consecrated. The
altar is holy ground where God makes two people's love for

The song discusses being wealthy and living a lavish lifestyle, but more importantly how people

First Ten Pounds Research Paper
Tips to Get Started on that First Ten Pounds
For most people, the hardest part of a diet is shedding their body of the first ten pounds. Your body
can feel as if you are starving it and it begs for the typical comfort foods that it is used to. It is easy
to give in and embrace your old way of life, however, there are tips you can use to eliminate the first
ten pounds you want to lose.
When you plan to start a new diet, make certain that you are sure this is something that you want to
do. You need motivation and determination to stay with your diet as well as to have an exercise plan
in place.
The first ten pounds are the hardest to get rid of and you will need to be forceful with yourself. Keep
in mind that once those pounds are gone, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Turn to a friend if you can, ask them to join you on a quest to diet or just be with you for additional
will power. You can also sign up with a support group for those on diets. Some of these groups are
free while others may have a minimal charge.
Always remember that support is never a bad thing and the more that you can get, the better off that
you will be. Use help to shed those first ten pounds in any form that you can get it.
When you start a diet and need to lose the first ten pounds, the best way to do it s through what is
known as cleansing, a process that takes two or three days. Your body is designed to store fat when
it is given an excess amount of it and once taken away, it needs to eliminate that fat.
If you just cut down on calories, it will take a longer amount of time to shed the first ten pounds.
Cleansing will help you get your diet in gear in a good way. During this cleansing time, eat foods
that are low in both fat and calories. Stick to soups, salads and ingest very small amounts of meat.
Try also to keep the amount of food that you consume, even if healthy to small portions. Although
this may be tough, it is during this time that your body will stop releasing fat if your calorie intake is
lower. Take in calories suggested for your height and weight and you will find it easier to stay

Ezra Pound developing ideas Essay
Ezra Pound's Developing Ideas
Often called "the poet's poet," because of his profound influence on 20th century
writing in English, American poet and critic, Pound, believed that poetry was the highest of the arts.
You never would have believed that a writer and optimist such as Ezra Pound would have been born
in Hailey, Idaho in 1885. From the sound of his work you'd thing he was definitely one of those
European Imagist. In 1908, after teaching college for two years, Pound traveled abroad to Spain,
Italy, and London. He followed the teachings of Ernest Fenellosa and became very intrigued by

Green come the shoots, aye April in the branches,
As winter's wound with her sleight hand she staunches,

Intent on experimentation, he prefers the green shoots that shows a new thrust through earth's crust.
It's also interesting how he alliterates the past as a "winter wound" and looking ahead to April's
"white–barked trees," using the color white as symble of an developing purity. "A

with poets who refused to let go of the past.
The poems of Lustra (1916) reflect the range of Pound's intellectual interests, the variety of his
technical experiments, and the extent of his artistic achievement in his London years. Such as

Walt Whitman , an enemy or a model for Ezra Pound?
In this essay , I want to demonstrate if Walt Whitman is seen as an enemy or as a model by Ezra
Pound. Even if the poem is ambiguous at first, during its we see that Walt Whitman is seen as a
model, as a spiritual father endowed with artistic creed which will be taken by his child.
Poem can be divided into 2 parts, the first part corresponds to childhood and refusal to accept the
style of Whitman (line 1–2) and the second part corresponds to maturity , where Pound accepts his
style ("the wood) that he "carves" to become better, more understandable by his era. (line 3–9)
Pound saw Walt Whitman gradually , he passed from considered him an enemy, a bad person (" i
have detested you long enough") , to a stubborn father ( "pig–headed father)" , a spiritual one who
wants what it is good for his child ,a genius, to a fatherland and also a forebear whose creation
Pound will continue. But according to ,,The Cambridge Companion to Walt Whitman" : " Whitman
delineates a composite figure: a father fashioned as much to resist as to obey, an older brother
sharing secrets, a lover making cryptic signs by which all comrades of manly love might recognize
and greet each other, a priestly poet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

quote , we deduce the idea that even if that period was sober, is still part of Ezra Pounds past . So ,
the poet must appreciate this because it is an American poet and also must respect the work and

The two main systems for the measurement are known as the Metric system and Imperial
system. The Imperial system is also known to be as British Imperial system, used in many parts of
the world in from 16th to the 19th century. Although the Metric system has gained popularity
nowadays, the Imperial system is still used by many countries, like the United Kingdom.

Should We Train The Dogs In The Pound?
.No!! To The Canine Killers.
By: Edyn. J. Mai Have you ever wondered, "What happens to those poor dogs in the pound?" The
answer ends with death and sadness. But, that's only if they aren't adopted and that is normally the
case. Doggy's in the pound are disabled or are lost just waiting to find their owners who will grab
them in their arms and play with them. Although it's hard to not get a dog from a store or a breeder
pound dogs get killed, put to their misery. When dogs are put down they don't only get to doggy
heaven they have to suffer. Literally Dog is God spelled Backwards!
Dogs should not get killed. My first reason is that trained pound dogs should be given to homeless
or to disabled children. Think of it the dogs would get homes and the people are happy with a new
pet. The disabled children would get a new help of support. Or maybe, wait... Idea!...Hatched!! –
quote from fuller house( a TV show), "If we train the pound dogs as service dogs that could help the
blind or even the police!" Dogs could be quite helpful if you know how to train them. Dogs need a
loving home. That is why I think dogs should be given not killed. ... Show more content on

Packing on the Pounds
College students at Colorado State University are experiencing a significant weight gain within their
first year of college. I've experienced this weight gain first hand by packing on seven pounds in just
over two months. Three more pounds and I'll be a part of the 20% of college students who gain 10
or more pounds during their freshman year. Pretty big accomplishment, huh? Of these 20%, just
under one third of them achieved the "Freshman 15" ("Freshman 15 Statistics," n.d.). Based just off
these statistics alone, there is no doubt that weight gain is a real thing in college students. A solution
must be put in place at Colorado State University to stop this weight gaining epidemic that is
occurring across the country.
Many people wonder what it is about college that causes such a tremendous weight gain for
students. According to Nicole Campbell, a multitude of reasons contribute to college students

contributors to the excessive amount of weight gain (Campbell, 2013). When dealing with exercise,

Should America Use The Metric System Essay
The metric system is used across the world, all except for the United States of America and two
other countries. The United States of America currently uses the Imperial system instead of the
metric system despite the rest of the world using it. Why would The United States of America not
use the metric system even though there are so many benefits to it? Switching to metric can mean
more business opportunities for America from other countries. The metric system can be the link for
fashion designers to have more opportunities in other countries, or scientists as well. Because of the

that PBS states is the ease in trading in internationally; nevertheless it eliminates "duplication in

Daniel Pink is division by ten and one–hundred instead of eight by twelve. What he means by that,
is the use of teaspoons and milliliters. The usefulness of changing from the imperial system to the

British Pound of Sterlings
The birth of the currency
The pound is 1200 years old, born about 775AD, when "sterlings" or silver coins were the main
currency in Anglo–Saxon kingdoms.
If you had 240 of them, you had one pound in weight – a vast fortune in the 8th century.
A century and a half later Athelstan, the first King of England, founded a series of mints and made
sterling a national currency in 928.
In 1124, a disgusted Henry I had 94 mint workers castrated for producing bad coins.
Sterling retained importance through the middle ages. Before the foundation of the Bank of
England, the Tower of London was the store for spare money. Silver penny were the only coins right

After the war, rumours swirled that sterling was to devalue, and so many countries converted their
pounds to dollars.
The pound was devalued by 30 per cent in 1949. The enormous postwar balance of payments deficit
was just too much for the UK. Sterling 's weakness and decline became too obvious. National banks
wanted dollars not pounds.
Not a penny less: the 1967 Devaluation
In 1967 the currency wasdevalued again, this time by 14 per cent.
Overseas, the sterling currency was of lesser importance. Dollars were more alluring – and as many
thought stable. But in 1971 President Nixon devalued the dollar – a response to damage done by the
Vietnam War – and opened the gates to a new era of floating exchange. The stability of the postwar
settlement was over.
The currency snake
Meanwhile 1972 saw the first efforts to fix the pound to other European currencies.
At the start of the year the four major European Economic Community currencies – sterling, the
deutschemark, the French franc and the Italian lira – formed the so–called 'snake '. The economic
bloc then floated their currencies together on the markets, each country having responsibility for the
stability of its currency within parameters.
The experiment failed, though, not long off the ground. Sterling dropped out after only six weeks,
weaker than ever, bowing to the dictates of the markets.

A life of Ezra Pound Ezra Pound was a highly controversial poet in modern literature. Although he
was attributed for enabling modernism movement in American literature, he was also criticized for
his aesthetic and political views. With the enthusiasm for poetry, Pound filled most of his life with
poetry.
Pound was a very passionate poet. He insisted on knowing more about poetry than anyone else do.
In his article "How I Began," Pound claimed that he was resolved to "know more about poetry than
any man living." Therefore, in order to accomplish his goal, he settled in London and built his
reputation as a member of the literary avant– garde. He was renowned for his enthusiastic advocacy

In 1908, in Venice, Pound published his first poetry book "A Lume Spento." He adopted dramatic
monologue and reflected spiritualism in the poetry. It was evaluated as original, poetic and

London. It was a literary criticism dealing with a variety of European literature. His work was
regarded as 'the best critic of poetry in some way' to some writers. Moreover, in 1912, he starts to
develop the field of Imagism, which he later becomes famous for. With his passion for classic
Chinese and Japanese poems, he emphasized economy of words and concrete and direct description
after thorough observation.
Another masterpiece of Ezra's is 'The Cantos.' It was an unfinished 120–section poem when Ezra

"Key for key, pound for pound, I'm the biggest dope dealer, I serve all over town." Imagine being on
a jury of a drug related case and hearing these rap lyrics played as evidence. Would you immediately

ongoing controversy that is becoming increasingly popular and accepted. Jurors face a difficult
decision on the credibility of the lyrics and how to properly interpret them when used as criminal
evidence. Is this really a confession from the defendant? Do the lyrics describe the defendant's
motivations, intentions, or conduct? The debate continues to distinguish the defendant's words as
artistic context or criminal intentions. There are many rap artists who create and use their true life
experiences into lyrical form. There are also rap artists who express what they experience through
the eyes of real criminals, but have never actually lived the life. When the court allows the
admission of rap lyrics as evidence, this allows the prosecutor to use them in two ways. One way is
as substantial evidence where they treat it as an admission of guilt or a confession. This will show
the defendant's knowledge of or intention to commit the crime. Another way is by the prosecutor

How Did The Us Convert To The Metric System
When the United States separated from Britain they kept the original Imperial measurement system
despite disregarding the previous government. Ever since America has used inches, feet, and yards
as standard measurement. However, while the U.S. continued to use the imperial system other
countries progressed. In 1799, after the french revolution, France converted to the metric system.
Invented by Gabriel Monton in France 1670, the metric system uses common powers of ten to
measure weight and lengths so that it could be conveniently used with decimals. Soon the metric
system had spread from France to Britain and most of the world. Countries now use the metric
system to measure length, area, volume, mass, force, pressure, energy, power, and temperature. ...

By converting to the metric system our trade would increase because there would no longer be a
need to change between systems and other countries could view the modification as making

would all be on the same page using the metric system. Smaller mistakes could also be prevented by
swapping to the much simpler metric system. One last thing the change would impact is education.

Toward The Metrication Of The United States
Toward the Metrication of the United States The United States was founded on the ideologies of
originality and independence from extraneous authority. To many, America is more than just a
country, it is the land of the free and is a light in the darkness from the rest of the world. This
inspiration has served Americans well throughout the past, but provides a reason to be reluctant to
try successful ideas from foreign countries. The reluctance of accepting the metric system is the
prominent example of the country's stubbornness to change its views. The switch to the metric
system in the United States is more than just a proposal to be pushed aside, it is a necessity to

History of the metric system. In order for the younger generation to push for the switch to the metric
system in the United States, they must have some background knowledge on how the metric system
came about. According to the U.S. Metric Association, the founding father of the metric system is
Gabriel Mouton of France. He first thought of a system of measurements based on decimals in 1670.
The system was first based on a nautical mile and also the length of a pendulum needed to swing at
one swing per second. During the years following 1670, numerous French scientists edited and

The Fat Tax: Paying by the Pound
I. Introduction
The prevalence of obesity in the American population is growing at epidemic proportions. As our
waistlines grow, so does the number of proposed solutions. Fad diets, celebrity workout videos, and
fat burning pills promise Americans a quick fix. Despite what the billion dollar weight–loss industry
claims, these various remedies rarely have any long– term success. The most effective weight loss
model is quite simple in explanation but difficult in practice: make healthy food choices and
exercise more.
The nation's focus on nutrition education in schools and through assistance programs has done little
to affect the more than two–thirds of Americans with obesity. As a result, supporters of a
controversial fat tax have called for the intervention of the government to reduce the number of
obese Americans and the burden that obesity

Ezra Pound: The Father of Modernism
Ezra Pound has been deemed one of Poetry's most important contributors. (Remembering Poets, 1).
T.S. Eliot and Donald Hall both believed Ezra Pound to be the biggest influence on poetry of his
time. (Poetry.org, 1). He was dedicated to his work, and from a young age, until his death in 1972,
he worked tirelessly, creating poetry that some deigned controversial, whether aesthetically or
politically. Those who did not find these controversial, the critics, the public, were too scared to read
his works. Pound however, never let any of this keep him from continuing to pursue his dreams and
do what he loved, writing poetry. Instead, he concentrated on advancing his art and maintaining his
standards with his aesthetics, while speaking out against these naysayers, showing them that he was
not intimidated by his adversaries.

A Pound Of Flesh: Monetary Sanctions
In Chapter 1 of the book A Pound of Flesh: Monetary Sanctions as punishment for the poor by
Alexes Harris it deals with monetary sanctions or legal debt owed to the state. The problem is that
the ones getting the most affected are the disenfranchised, the poor and minorities, in debt owed to
the government. Harris stated that he will be making two arguments. One of them is stated," First,
monetary sanctions imposed by the criminal justice system create and sustain inequality in the
United States" and the second is," Second, the system of monetary sanctions is enforced by criminal
justice bureaucrats whose discretion is shaped by a culture of accountability". The author later
describes how he will support those two arguments throughout the chapters

Ezra Pound And Modernist Poetry
The following poems share a similar theme: Ezra Pound's "A Few Don'ts," Wallace Stevens' "Of
Modern Poetry," Archibald Macleish's "Ars Poetica," and Marianne Moore's "Poetry." Each of these
authors felt they had discovered superlative methods to write the most powerful poetry. However,
the details and methods which each author used varied from one another. Born in 1885, Ezra pound
is known as one of Modernist poetry's biggest contributors. His poetry of the early 20th century was
unconventional and controversial for its time. He studied endlessly to understand every facet of
poetry and pave his own way in the field. He pioneered the imagist movement and developed
rubrics which imagist poems were to follow. In "A Few Don'ts," Ezra Pound ... Show more content

His poetry is experimental and was influenced by the works of numerous modernist poets. As he
aged, his poems developed to be more traditional. Many of his works in the 1930's analyzed social
and political issues that plagued the world during this period. "Ars Poetica" challenges how one
interprets their own reality, and his own guidelines to powerful poetry. He uses strong, apt images to
convey his points. MacLeish believes a poem should be "worldess As the flight of birds" (MacLeish
789). This poem is much more abstract than the other two, but shares the same theme of trying to
connect to the reader and illicit strong feelings. MacLeish believes that "A poem should not mean
But be"(MacLeish 790). A poem should speak for itself and use strong images for the reader to
ponder. This leaves the poem more open to interpretation and discussion. Marianne Moore was born
in Missouri in 1887. She was a modernist poet; however, the subjects which she chose to write
about differed from the average modernist. Most modernist poetry during this time was centered
around the state of modern civilization. Moore chose to center her poetry around animals, nature,
and poetry itself. Her poem "Poetry" starts off somewhat perplexing when she states "I, too, dislike
it: there are things that are important beyond all this fiddle" (Moore 791). This is demonstrating
irony, because

the United States. Ankilewitz is determined to attain his persistent desire of finding Dr. Albert

years to live. Ankilewitz was born in Texas in 1970. After noticing her son was playing and
interacting differently than other children his age, Ankilewitz's mother took him to be evaluated.
There she was told her precious child would not live even to his teen years. As the movie shows,

pound frame, Ankilewitz backs down to no one, helping him exceeding Dr. Cordova or anyone
else's expectations.
'39 Pounds of Love' shows Ankilewitz as a romantic, for life and love. Ankilewitz finds passion in
everything he does and friendship with everyone he meets. Ankilewitz's fragile frame mesmerizes
onlookers. Some stare, some walk away. Given the opportunity, Ankilewitz rapidly turns a stranger
into a friend. He is heartfelt, honest and transparent. His passion for life invites people in. These
relationships provide him with meaning and purpose. It is his life force. It motivates to do more than

Ezra Pound : An American Poet
Ezra Pound was an American expatriate poet and a crucial figure in the early modernist movement.
His famous contribution to the modernist movement was his influential work of developing the
literary style of Imagism. His favoritism towards using musical properties in the poetical verse, and
intense use of vivid imagery, helped to not only influence many other famous poets such as Robert
Frost and D.H. Lawrence, but also to change the literary world forever. Ezra Loomis Pound was
born in Hailey, Idaho Territory in 1858 to Homer and Isabel Pound. Pound knew from an early age
that he wanted to be a poet. As a child, Pound was quick–witted, individualistic, extremely
narcissistic, and unpopular. Pound, at the age of fifteen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Question 3: What literary movements did Pound help to found? Through his unconventional writing
style, Pound helped to create the Imagist movement from the ground up. What really made his new
literary style so popular was his incorporation of different cultures into one language. Pound, after
leaving the United States, took great interest in different literary styles from around the world. He
especially admired East Asian (Japanese) and Italian artistic and literary concepts. Pound saw in
these languages everything that he wanted for his own literary style. From the East Asian concepts,
Pound admired the unique writing techniques and imagery that was present. From the Italian
concepts, Pound admired how phonetic the language was and how the words seemed to flow from
the tongue like a smooth river of musical tones. These concepts, among others, would be vital later
in his new literary style that would come to be known as Imagism. Pound also became intrigued
with the new 20th century art movement called vorticism. He liked the dynamic structure that
vorticism offered. Vorticist poetry focused primarily on locating the movement and stillness within
the image, which Pound favored tremendously. Pound also emphasized vorticism's relationship to
motion, and how the vortex represents the maximum point of energy and efficiency. He incorporated
the vorticist ideals of energy and efficiency in his most famous unfinished work, "The Cantos." With

Analysis Of ' Ezra Pound 's '
Ezra Pound's (1885–1972) Homage to Sextus Propertius has stirred controversies after its first
publication in Harriet Monroe's Poetry magazine in March 1919. The poem is consisted of twelve
sections and it was based on Propertius, a great Latin elegiac poet who lived during the first century.
Pound's poem provides a new interpretation of Propertius that differs from his predecessors. Pound
finds a voice to critique the corrupted politics of his time. The poem, However, has enraged the
Classicists for they viewed it as an utter mistranslation of Propertius. Such differing views over the
poem have been, for quite long, the source of contention in the academic circles. This paper,
therefore, discusses the views of the Classicists and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The perception of the poem continued raveling to other classicists. L.P. Wilkinson, a Cambridge
classicist, harshly criticized the poem and he concluded that "Homage to Sextus Propertius purged
of the perversities of Ezra Pound (viii). Similarly, Professor Gilbert Highet wrote in Horizon
magazine that Homage was "an insult both to poetry and to scholarship, and to common sense (viii).
Highet accused Pound of "bad taste" and a disgusting misinterpretation of Propertius. Later, Robert
Graves, a classical translator, attacked Pound's inaccuracies in the poem. In the Times Literary
Supplement, he published a comical short play called Dr. Syntax and Mr. Pound mocking Pound's
ignorance of Latin and the radical distortion he made and his claim of producing a free–verse
translation of the poem. He concluded that Pound has no respect for Propertius and that he should
learn the moral principles in translation, a reference to his article published in 1965. And finally,
Robert Nicholas, a Gregorian poet, who echoed Hale's review over Pound's mistranslation of
Propertius. In Pound's essay, Date Line, he identifies five different modes of literary criticism and
one of them is "criticism by translation" (Literary Essays 74). This type

The Importance Of Healthy Eating : A Pound Of Fat
A pound of fat is equal to 3,500 calories. If a diet consists of 2,500 calories a day and it was changed
to 2,000 a day, it would take one week to lose a pound of fat. It isn't that hard to cut back on those
calories though. With some simple knowledge of healthy eating and determination, there are endless
possibilities to lose fat. For one to fully understand healthy eating, one must examine how and what
we eat, the processed food and artificial sweeteners we consume, and the importance of hydration.
Healthy Eating is thinking about the process foods go through and eating the most natural form of
food possible (Voo). This means reducing the amount of processed foods and eating more
organically. Eating organically is eating things naturally without any alterations or changes. "
(GMOs) have been linked to cancer and fertility" (Voo). GMOs are genetically modified food. It is
preferable to eat the pesticide–free foods to avoid the added hormones and chemicals
(Voo)."Processed foods are classified in three categories: minimally processed food, processed food
ingredients, and highly processed food" ("Food"). Some unprocessed foods are nuts, farm–fresh
eggs, fresh fruit and vegetables, and dried legumes (Voo). These foods would be more of the organic
types of food. Minimally processed foods have small procedures before they can be sold. Minimally
processed foods are processed by cutting, peeling, washing, removing parts, and juicing ("Food").

The Young Genius: Ezra Pound's influenced poetry on Benito Mussolini and the Fascist movement,

"Canto 13"
If a man have not order within him
He cannot spread order about him;
And if a man have not order within him
His family will not act with due order;
And if the prince have not order within him
He cannot put order in his dominions. (Lines 46–51)
In the previous excerpt of Canto 13, the three literacy terms refrain; anaphora and a hint of didactic
poetry are involved. The word and phrase order appear in every line of the excerpt. It is repeated to
not only get the meaning across, but to make a significant indent in the readers' mind while reading
the poem. The hint of didactic poetry is shown in this poem, I believe, because Pound is telling the
reader without order you cannot do a few things such as spread order about him, family will not act,
and one cannot put order in his dominions. In a way, that is teaching the pros of "order."
From this poem I can infer that Ezra Pound is stating that whether or not he is ruled by an
imperialistic power: everyday is going to be the same, for everybody. The last line "Imperial power
is? And to us what is it?" means that no matter government is enforced, their everyday life is not
going to change.

Hebert Eagle Seven Pounds Analysis
Drawing upon Hebert Eagle, Seven Pounds clearly exhibits the demonstration of blue lighting
throughout the entire film. For instance, near the end of the film, the viewer experiences the second
of Tim's flashbacks of the devastating crash. Ascending the hill in which his car rolled over, Tim
searches for any survivors of the fatal crash. After a few minutes of searching, Tim discovers his
dead wife lying on the cold, hard asphalt. Aware that he remains the only survivor, Tim, with
heaving sobs, slowly falls to his knees and eventually lies with his wife on the ground. Throughout
this entire scene, blue lighting falls on Tim and exhibits the loneliness and hopelessness that he now
feels. Although such an example presents itself near the end of the film, it is imperative to
understand this motif. Throughout the entire film, the lighting on Tim, when shown alone, is often
blue as if recalling the crash sequence. However, when Tim interacts with Emily later on in the film,
Muccino uses yellow lighting to contrast that of the blue and to produce warmth within the scene,
and to show the comfort and stability that Tim feels in Emily's company. Thus, the masterful
application of blue lighting sets the viewer on edge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

I watched the movie Seven Pounds staring the well–known Will Smith as the main character. This
movie delivers a very powerful message and leaves the audience contemplating what their mission

chance to truly look back on their lives and receive some form of a personal message. This film is
portraying individual's personal missions in this world, and allows them to get a glimpse of what
their purpose in life will be.

all, there are many lessons to take away from this film, and it will leave almost anyone with a lump

deep down into one's own life and discover for what purpose he or she is here. This film did really
good in succeeding as a film in general, because regardless of the person everyone can walk away
with something from this movie. I think another point that makes this film so touching is the actor's
ability to make us feel like we were in the same situation, they really made the movie what it is.

In A Station Of The Metro, By Erza Pound
"Life is short, spend your time wisely" is a common phrase many individuals use to see the positive
side in their everyday life and to forget about the negativity that fills them because they only have
one life to live and there is no time for them to be filled with hatred. Time is forever but life is not.
There comes points in life where one has to accept that death is inevitable, and so start to analyze
the world around them to then realize the beauty of life itself. The following poems chosen all
represent the essence of time where psychological issues such as fear, grief, and memory are
apparent when the dealing with the issue of fragility of life. The poem "In a Station of the Metro,"
by Erza Pound suggests the brevity of life itself as in one glimpse, time has expired and one's life is
over without even realizing. Beginning with the poem's length, it is only two lines long which
emphasizes how life runs at a fast speed. One begins to read the poem, and as soon as you now it,
the poem comes to an end. Life is just like that, one starts off as an infant, believing that they have
all the time in the world to do many things, then without even noticing, time has passed by in a rapid
speed and one is an adult just like that. Pound uses a train as a metaphor to compare how life speeds
away in an instant. The speaker watches "the apparition of these faces in the crowd" (267) as the
train passes by. The doors open quickly, revealing a sea of faces, and then it closes again–the

Introduction Personality is "the sum total od the actual or potential behaviour–patterns of the

He is methodical, reserved, and rigid in his journey recounted in Seven Pounds (Seven Pounds,
2008). Thomas disassociates from himself as he systematically betters seven lives despite it being
the end of his own. This seems to be unimportant in the grand scheme of his plan, something to be
disregarded; the selfless aspect of his melancholic personality plainly plays a large role as the lead
driving force, furthering the plot of this film. There are many parallels between Maslows theory of
self–actualization and Eysenck's introversion. They are both personality types that fit the leading
hero Ben Thomas. Both show characteristic of people who are reserved, plan their actions and
control their emotions. They tend to be serious, reliable and pessimistic (McLeod, 2007). Maslow
used the term self–actualization to describe a desire, not a driving force, that could lead to realizing
one's capabilities. Maslow did not feel that self–actualization determined one's life; rather, he felt
that it gave the individual a desire, or motivation to achieve budding ambitions (Gleitman et al.
2004). This is in contrast to the correlation between Thomas' personality and his actions. I believe it
is through the melancholic aspect of his personality he is able to carry out his plan through the
methodical, antisocial and thoughtful manner driven by the introverted facet of him. While I see that
it is the self–actualized aspect

Pound And Pummel In South Shilly Analysis

  • 1. Pound And Pummel In South Shilly Analysis Put your hands beneath his armpits, bend your knees, wait for the clasp of his thinning arms; the best lock cheek to cheek. Move slow. Do not, right now, recall the shapes he traced yesterday on your back, moments before being wheeled to surgery. Do not pretend the anxious calligraphy of touch was sign beyond some unspeakable animal stammer. Do not go back further into the landscape of silence you both tended, with body and breath, until it nearly obscured all but the genetic gravity between you. And do not imagine wind now blowing that landscape into a river which spills into a sea. Because it doesn't. That's not this love poem. In this love poem the son trains himself on the task at hand, which is simple, which is, finally, the only task he has ever had, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Beast! Beast! He answers them with all the sensitivity of a cretic foot: a quick pivot mid–court that knocks the opponent's skinny two–guard off the gawky pair of iron skillets grown out of the poor kid's ankles and projects him like an old neurosis across the crud–ridden gym floor More than once I've caught Beast's blunt left wing– blade of his broad back on my chin And then with my best blacktop ineloquence cursed him: Thank you Fuck you too Isn't this so often the affection between men: that we should share not a single lovely word unless through a battered mandible This is how I listened to Beast recite after those Wednesday nights his invented names for fire in such holy brag and trash but also how one morning over tea in a more muted bravado he narrated the quiet trauma of his father's final weeks: how his old man–whose oak–switch cruelty Beast had ... • 2. Dawg Pound Mission Statement It has been a busy couple of weeks for the Dawg Pound. As Spring moves into the air, the calendar begins to fill up on what do to as an organization. The big news for Dawg Pound does not come from an athletic standpoint, but actually from Student Senate. The organization was awarded funding, which can be used towards various aspects and items in order to enhance the fan experience at sporting events. This was an extremely important milestone for the organization, because of how far E–Boards the last three years have fought for funding. The fact that I was the standing President during this accomplishment is obviously rewarding, but once I found out about the funding I called and thanked the previous Dawg Pound President prior to getting to ... • 3. What Is The Devaluation Of The Egyptian Pound? 3. The exchange reform: The devaluation of the Egyptian pound in February 1991 was an effective factor for cost–push inflation. It increased prices of imported goods and services the household cost of production of goods and services. To keep away from repetition, we might analyze the effect of wages on inflation in Egypt under the demand pull factors. ERSAP usage does not increase real wages, and consequently wages ought not to be considered as an inflationary component. According to the author SamerKherfi (1994, November 01) said. The stabilization and structural adjustment program in Egypt has prompted to lower inflation, reduced budget deficit, stable exchange rate, and balance of payments surplus. In this context, the program has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With the increasing trend of issuing treasury bills to finance the budget deficit and to sterilize foreign capital inflow, and with the portfolio shift from foreign currency deposits to LE deposits, and interest payments in domestic debt grew rapidly. Considering the linkage between budget deficit and inflation the author Omnia A. Helmy(2008, November) said. Budget deficit did matter as a determinant of inflation according to some empirical studies on the nature and causes of inflation in Egypt. At the theoretical level, extensive literature has argued that the inflationary impact of budget deficit relies on upon the effect of the shortage on aggregate demand and the methods by which the deficit is financed. The "budget deficit–inflation" interface displays a two–way communication. That is, not just budget deficit create inflationary weight through its effect on cash totals and public expectations, additionally high inflation then has a criticism impact pushing up the budget deficit. The relationship between budget deficit and inflation is an important and controversial issue in the academic literature as well as in the economic policy field. According to what the authors Sultan Abou Ali, HalaAbou Ali and Johansen cointegration said they have agreed that budget deficit is an independent factor that affects inflation rates. • 5. Ezra Pound Nathan Hubschman Nathan Hubschman Ezra Pound Response: "The Tree" by Ezra Pound is about how Pound identifies with the tree–like state in which the nymph, Daphne, of Greek myth finds herself in order to escape Apollo. Pound begins the poem explaining how he was a "tree amid the wood" meaning a changed being amid a familiar yet under–perceived environment. He likens this form to the myth of Apollo who chases Daphne until she asks the god, Peneus, to change her into a tree. Even though she is transformed into a "laurel", which happens to be the Greek word for Daphne, Apollo is still able to recognize her by the inner–beauty of the tree before him. He then claims the tree as his own, just as he would if Daphne was still in her nymph ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first and last identical lines are, "The eyes of this dead lady speak to me." This repetition makes me believe that he did not know who the lady was, but he feels a haunting connection to her somehow. Pound recognizes a passion in the woman that is so strong, it is conveyed even from a two–dimensional image of her. This must have meant that she moves Pound in a way he has experienced before. His desire to feel this emotion again is no less just because she is dead. By repeating the first line at the end of the poem, Pound drives home the strength of his feeling for the woman considering that the entire poem is only four lines in total. The title does not give much away about the poem except that it is about a picture. Nevertheless, it does tell that the picture means something to Pound because he titled it "The Picture", not "A Picture" which would probably be about pictures in general. Ezra Pound reveals his emotional side in this poem and demonstrates his passion and perception of unspoken language. Ezra Pound explains his view on marriage in his poem, "The Altar". He says in the first line "Let us build here an exquisite friendship." The exquisite friendship is a symbol for marriage and the altar is the place where that marriage begins. He goes on to call it "a place of wonder", because it is the place where the everlasting bond is consecrated. The altar is holy ground where God makes two people's love for ... Drake and Jay–Z are two of the biggest names in hip– hop music and are both very wealthy. "Pound Cake" was released on Drake's album Nothing Was The Same, which had a lot of songs that talked about how life is different after becoming successful. The song discusses being wealthy and living a lavish lifestyle, but more importantly how people with wealth are perceived and the persona that comes with having money. The song opens with the chorus, stating. "Cash rules everything around me C.R.E.A.M. get the money dolla–dolla bills y'all." This hook is taken from the song C.R.E.A.M. by the Wu Tang Clan. • 8. Ezra Pound developing ideas Essay Ezra Pound's Developing Ideas Often called "the poet's poet," because of his profound influence on 20th century writing in English, American poet and critic, Pound, believed that poetry was the highest of the arts. You never would have believed that a writer and optimist such as Ezra Pound would have been born in Hailey, Idaho in 1885. From the sound of his work you'd thing he was definitely one of those European Imagist. In 1908, after teaching college for two years, Pound traveled abroad to Spain, Italy, and London. He followed the teachings of Ernest Fenellosa and became very intrigued by Japanese and Chinese poetry. The literary figure who has had the most substantial impact on modern thought ... It's also interesting how he alliterates the past as a "winter wound" and looking ahead to April's "white–barked trees," using the color white as symble of an developing purity. "A Virginal," seems to have expressed Pound's exasperation with the predictable American artistry and with poets who refused to let go of the past. • 9. Walt Whitman, An Enemy Or A Model For Ezra Pound Nicoleta–Teodora Dincă Instructor's Name : Dragoș Manea 2 februarie 2017 Walt Whitman , an enemy or a model for Ezra Pound? In this essay , I want to demonstrate if Walt Whitman is seen as an enemy or as a model by Ezra Pound. Even if the poem is ambiguous at first, during its we see that Walt Whitman is seen as a model, as a spiritual father endowed with artistic creed which will be taken by his child. According to the U.S. Metric Association, the founding father of the metric system is Gabriel Mouton of France. He first thought of a system of measurements based on decimals in 1670. The system was first based on a nautical mile and also the length of a pendulum needed to swing at one swing per second. During the years following 1670, numerous French scientists edited and made improvements to the system. The metric system then became the official units of weights and measurements in France on April 7, 1795 (Origin of the Metric System). When France decided to adopt the metric system, this served as a catalyst for the adoption in the rest of the world. After France became the first country to adopt these measurements, other countries started to notice that the metric system was well suited for science and industrialization, so they decided to adopt the measurements as well. Pound, after leaving the United States, took great interest in different literary styles from around the world. He especially admired East Asian (Japanese) and Italian artistic and literary concepts. Pound saw in these languages everything that he wanted for his own literary style. From the East Asian concepts, Pound admired the unique writing techniques and imagery that was present. • 29. Analysis Of ' Ezra Pound 's ' Ezra Pound's (1885–1972) Homage to Sextus Propertius has stirred controversies after its first publication in Harriet Monroe's Poetry magazine in March 1919. The poem is consisted of twelve sections and it was based on Propertius, a great Latin elegiac poet who lived during the first century. Pound's poem provides a new interpretation of Propertius that differs from his predecessors. Pound finds a voice to critique the corrupted politics of his time. The poem, However, has enraged the Classicists for they viewed it as an utter mistranslation of Propertius. Such differing views over the poem have been, for quite long, the source of contention in the academic circles. This paper, therefore, discusses the views of the Classicists and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The perception of the poem continued raveling to other classicists. L.P. Wilkinson, a Cambridge classicist, harshly criticized the poem and he concluded that "Homage to Sextus Propertius purged of the perversities of Ezra Pound (viii). Similarly, Professor Gilbert Highet wrote in Horizon magazine that Homage was "an insult both to poetry and to scholarship, and to common sense (viii). Highet accused Pound of "bad taste" and a disgusting misinterpretation of Propertius. Later, Robert Graves, a classical translator, attacked Pound's inaccuracies in the poem. In the Times Literary Supplement, he published a comical short play called Dr. Syntax and Mr. Pound mocking Pound's ignorance of Latin and the radical distortion he made and his claim of producing a free–verse translation of the poem. He concluded that Pound has no respect for Propertius and that he should learn the moral principles in translation, a reference to his article published in 1965. And finally, Robert Nicholas, a Gregorian poet, who echoed Hale's review over Pound's mistranslation of Propertius. In Pound's essay, Date Line, he identifies five different modes of literary criticism and one of them is "criticism by translation" (Literary Essays 74). This type ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. The Importance Of Healthy Eating : A Pound Of Fat A pound of fat is equal to 3,500 calories. If a diet consists of 2,500 calories a day and it was changed to 2,000 a day, it would take one week to lose a pound of fat. It isn't that hard to cut back on those calories though. With some simple knowledge of healthy eating and determination, there are endless possibilities to lose fat. For one to fully understand healthy eating, one must examine how and what we eat, the processed food and artificial sweeteners we consume, and the importance of hydration. Healthy Eating is thinking about the process foods go through and eating the most natural form of food possible (Voo). This means reducing the amount of processed foods and eating more organically. Eating organically is eating things naturally without any alterations or changes. " (GMOs) have been linked to cancer and fertility" (Voo). GMOs are genetically modified food. It is preferable to eat the pesticide–free foods to avoid the added hormones and chemicals (Voo)."Processed foods are classified in three categories: minimally processed food, processed food ingredients, and highly processed food" ("Food"). Some unprocessed foods are nuts, farm–fresh eggs, fresh fruit and vegetables, and dried legumes (Voo). These foods would be more of the organic types of food. Minimally processed foods have small procedures before they can be sold. Minimally processed foods are processed by cutting, peeling, washing, removing parts, and juicing ("Food"). Ezra Pound Research Paper The Young Genius: Ezra Pound's influenced poetry on Benito Mussolini and the Fascist movement, time of his stay in St. Elizabeth's Hospital and the concept of Imagism. "If a nation's literature declines, the nation atrophies and decays." (Ezra Pound Quotes) Ezra Pound was not a man of many words, but he certainly did have a knack for turning simple words into something beautiful. Pounds' poetry was influenced by his fascination with Benito Mussolini and the Fascist movement, the time of his stay in St. Elizabeth's Hospital and the concept of Imagism. It is safe to say that Ezra Pound did not live a boring life growing up. He was born on October 30, 1885 in Hailey, Idaho. However, he was brought up in Wyncote, Philadelphia. At the small ... "Canto 13" If a man have not order within him He cannot spread order about him; And if a man have not order within him His family will not act with due order; And if the prince have not order within him He cannot put order in his dominions. (Lines 46–51) In the previous excerpt of Canto 13, the three literacy terms refrain; anaphora and a hint of didactic poetry are involved. The word and phrase order appear in every line of the excerpt. It is repeated to not only get the meaning across, but to make a significant indent in the readers' mind while reading the poem. The hint of didactic poetry is shown in this poem, I believe, because Pound is telling the reader without order you cannot do a few things such as spread order about him, family will not act, and one cannot put order in his dominions. In a way, that is teaching the pros of "order." From this poem I can infer that Ezra Pound is stating that whether or not he is ruled by an imperialistic power: everyday is going to be the same, for everybody. The last line "Imperial power is? And to us what is it?" means that no matter government is enforced, their everyday life is not going to change. "Cantos XLIX: For The Seven Lakes" Sun up; work Sundown; to rest Dig well and drink of the water Dig field; eat of the grain Imperial power is? And to us what is it?

  • 35. Hebert Eagle Seven Pounds Analysis Drawing upon Hebert Eagle, Seven Pounds clearly exhibits the demonstration of blue lighting throughout the entire film. For instance, near the end of the film, the viewer experiences the second of Tim's flashbacks of the devastating crash. Ascending the hill in which his car rolled over, Tim searches for any survivors of the fatal crash. After a few minutes of searching, Tim discovers his dead wife lying on the cold, hard asphalt. Aware that he remains the only survivor, Tim, with heaving sobs, slowly falls to his knees and eventually lies with his wife on the ground. Throughout this entire scene, blue lighting falls on Tim and exhibits the loneliness and hopelessness that he now feels. Although such an example presents itself near the end of the film, it is imperative to understand this motif. Throughout the entire film, the lighting on Tim, when shown alone, is often blue as if recalling the crash sequence. However, when Tim interacts with Emily later on in the film, Muccino uses yellow lighting to contrast that of the blue and to produce warmth within the scene, and to show the comfort and stability that Tim feels in Emily's company. Thus, the masterful application of blue lighting sets the viewer on edge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 36. Seven Pounds I watched the movie Seven Pounds staring the well–known Will Smith as the main character. This movie delivers a very powerful message and leaves the audience contemplating what their mission in life ultimately is. Personally I love the way this film was written because it gives the audience a chance to truly look back on their lives and receive some form of a personal message. This film is portraying individual's personal missions in this world, and allows them to get a glimpse of what their purpose in life will be. Will plays a character named Ben Thomas, who is an IRS agent, he visits a variety of people to collect their taxes. This film really spoke to me and made me realize that I want to make a difference in the people's lives around me, do good where I can, and identify the issues in today's world that I am passionate about and dedicate myself to improving the world in those areas. Over all, there are many lessons to take away from this film, and it will leave almost anyone with a lump in their throat at the end of the movie. The most important and central message of the film is to dive deep down into one's own life and discover for what purpose he or she is here. This film did really good in succeeding as a film in general, because regardless of the person everyone can walk away with something from this movie. I think another point that makes this film so touching is the actor's ability to make us feel like we were in the same situation, they really made the movie what it is. Some of the visuals could have been better produced but it was small things that most people would overlook because the message is so ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. In A Station Of The Metro, By Erza Pound "Life is short, spend your time wisely" is a common phrase many individuals use to see the positive side in their everyday life and to forget about the negativity that fills them because they only have one life to live and there is no time for them to be filled with hatred. Time is forever but life is not. There comes points in life where one has to accept that death is inevitable, and so start to analyze the world around them to then realize the beauty of life itself. The following poems chosen all represent the essence of time where psychological issues such as fear, grief, and memory are apparent when the dealing with the issue of fragility of life. The poem "In a Station of the Metro," by Erza Pound suggests the brevity of life itself as in one glimpse, time has expired and one's life is over without even realizing. Beginning with the poem's length, it is only two lines long which emphasizes how life runs at a fast speed. One begins to read the poem, and as soon as you now it, the poem comes to an end. Life is just like that, one starts off as an infant, believing that they have all the time in the world to do many things, then without even noticing, time has passed by in a rapid speed and one is an adult just like that. Pound uses a train as a metaphor to compare how life speeds away in an instant. The speaker watches "the apparition of these faces in the crowd" (267) as the train passes by. • 39. Seven Pounds Essay Introduction Personality is "the sum total od the actual or potential behaviour–patterns of the organism, as determined by heredity and environment (Binger, 2014). The film Seven Pounds (Seven Pounds, 2008) revolves around Ben Thomas, a man with a tremendous secret that drastically and destructively changed his and seven others lives. He is the cause of a car crash, which kills his wife and six other people. On his journey to receive redemption for himself he sets out to change the lives of seven different strangers for the better. The two chosen theories, which apply to the main protagonist Ben Thomas' personality, are the Eysenck Theory and the sub–section of Maslow's Theory of personality; self–actualising. Ben is a careful, thoughtful and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He is methodical, reserved, and rigid in his journey recounted in Seven Pounds (Seven Pounds, 2008). Thomas disassociates from himself as he systematically betters seven lives despite it being the end of his own. This seems to be unimportant in the grand scheme of his plan, something to be disregarded; the selfless aspect of his melancholic personality plainly plays a large role as the lead driving force, furthering the plot of this film. There are many parallels between Maslows theory of self–actualization and Eysenck's introversion. They are both personality types that fit the leading hero Ben Thomas. Both show characteristic of people who are reserved, plan their actions and control their emotions. They tend to be serious, reliable and pessimistic (McLeod, 2007). Maslow used the term self–actualization to describe a desire, not a driving force, that could lead to realizing one's capabilities. Maslow did not feel that self–actualization determined one's life; rather, he felt that it gave the individual a desire, or motivation to achieve budding ambitions (Gleitman et al. 2004). This is in contrast to the correlation between Thomas' personality and his actions. I believe it is through the melancholic aspect of his personality he is able to carry out his plan through the methodical, antisocial and thoughtful manner driven by the introverted facet of him. While I see that it is the self–actualized aspect ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
