The Extinction Of The Tortoise In Galapagos
A recent article has been posted of a 100 year old tortoise named Diego who is responsible for
saving its species. The tortoises in Galapagos were almost in near extinction and this because the
very few males that are on the island did not seem an interest to the females, which slowed down the
population rate. The tortoise lives in a breeding center in Santa Cruz but is from a species called
Chelnoidis Hoodensis, which is a species that that is only found in Espanola. Knowing the history of
this Diego and seeing how he has produced many offspring before they decided to take him to
Galapagos and he has more than succeeded in helping repopulate. A tortoise specialist named Tapia
say's "He's contributed enormously to repopulating the island" and

De-Extinction Essay
Did you know that scientists are trying to bring extinct animals like the Woolly Mammoth back to
life? That would be cool to see, but is it worth it? Scientists should not bring Woolly Mammoths
back to life. It would be a waste of money, it brings less attention to animals about to go extinct, and
it could hurt the ecosystem.
First, bringing back extinct animals would be a waste of money. In the passage De–Extinction
Probably Isn't Worth it it says,"Five recently extinct species would come at the cost of conversation
efforts for keeping forty two animals"(Zielisk, S., 2017). This supports my opinion because keeping
forty two animals alive is a lot of money. Wasting that on only five extinct animals is insane for me.
Also, on Back From the Dead it says," But the clone, born with lung defects, only lasted seven
minutes"(n.a., n.d.). This explains my reason because you could be keeping forty two animals alive,
but instead you brought an animal back to life, only to live seven minutes. Not only would ... Show

On the passage De–Extinction Probably Isn't Worth it it says,"Even if they're successful, it is
probably a bad idea because it would divert conversation money from still–living animals"(Zielisk,
S., 2017). This shows my opinion because they spent so much money on trying to de–extinct
animals, there would be no more money to take care of all of the still–living animals about to go
extinct. According to the passage Back From the Dead it says," Scientists also worry that if
scientists can bring extinct animals back, no one will care about keeping endangered species from
becoming extinct"(n.a., n.d.). This supports my opinion because even if they did pull of to have
enough money, no–one would care about the endangered species and they would eventually die off.
To me, that is not a good thing. These animals hurting the ecosystem does not sound like a good

De-Extinction Species
De–extinction is so cool but there is no asherens it will go exactly as planned. It can have so many
full backs like desys and another dust bowl because of all the grass and food reward to feed these
creatures and they don't care if you need that land of that grass or anything about the fall back they
just want to eat.One thing is,¨Species could carry retroviruses or pathogens when brought back to
life.¨They could seriously harm other species that are alive and that same virus or pathogen could
mutate and harm us humans to and the very thing we tried to save ends up killing us right after we
save its species. Also, ¨De–extinct species would be alien and potentially invasive...¨ Which this
means that the de–extinct species could petenshely take ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What also could happen is, ¨people may cause individuals of the de–extinct species harm.¨We can
do what we did to make a lot of the species we are trying to bring back extinct like depending on the
species we can spend all this money on bring it back and then we can hunt it to the point of
extinction agenda and then it would be a massive waste of resources and money. ¨their habitats and
food sources have changed, so their roles in these changed ecosystems could be too.¨This is the nice
and the scary thing about this is you have all this power as one of the so called higher species in the
web of life but you can also imagen and see what stepig past awer roll could do like the–firestation
is cadastrofik and that is only because we felt we had the right to play the creator and in tern we
could do something similar to the ecosystem if we go threw with this. ¨Is de–extinction playing god,
or just plain wrong?¨ potential problems and sichuwashens that could ever at any time and destroy
everything that is interesting about this. There are cool things to this as well but that but needs to

The Extinction Of The Bison
Imagine walking in your backyard and seeing a dangerous buffalo that is twice the size as a cow
eating your grass. That would be terrifying to witness, but that scene would most likely not happen
in today's world because the bison were almost driven to extinction during the 19th and 20th
century. The Indians needed buffalo for their primary food source, so they would hunt bison. Then,
Euro–Americans came along and disrupted the system for the Indians. There is an argument for who
is to blame for the near–extinction of the bison. Some believe the blame all falls on the Indians as
they over–hunted. Others may feel that the blame goes on the Euro–Americans who impacted the
system by getting involved with bison. Consequently, I believe ... Show more content on

One would think that a lesson would be learned because "by the last quarter of the eighteenth
century, as the plains nomads accumulated beaver pelts for trade with Europeans, they steadily
exterminated the beaver" (Isenberg 50). The Indians would acquire horses, corn, and tobacco for
trading the beaver skin, but they took out an area full of beavers. This situation was similar to the
shrinking bison population and it was a sign of what could come if they continued to over–hunt and
trade with the Euro–Americans. Vulnerability took over the Indians as they continued to trade with
the Euro–Americans. The trade consisted of bison or bison parts in exchange for weapons and
alcohol. Over–hunting took place because of this trading between the two. The Indians became
greedy to hunt, so they needed better weapons and this showed as the bison population was
shrinking. Another basic need was alcohol and it took over as a popular trade and once consumed, it
did not burden the nomads (Isenberg 104). A gallon of alcohol would sell for five prime bison robes
and this showed how much the Indians valued alcohol. Whiskey was needed and it was included in
the trade for bison products. Therefore, hunting for bison became much more important because the
Indians would get a reward from supplying bison parts. This looks bad on the Indians as their
motives for killing off bison was their need for

Dinosaurs Extinction
After a field trip to the zoo children return home to discover their suburban backyards to be
transformed to jungles, their dogs to be tigers, and their own hands to be the paws of a great lion. A
trip to the river enthralls kids with excitement as they try to grasp the tiny minnows with their hands,
as they run in terror from the geese they got too close to, and as they admire the cattails just out of
their reach. Humans grow up in awe of the beauty the earth holds from the great cats to the simple
plants that line the forest floor. However, as adults, they are in the process of driving much of it to
extinction. If this pattern continues, many animals children have grown up seeing, loving, and
dreaming of will be stuffed in museums and observed just as dinosaurs are now. Extinction is the
natural path of all species. All species are either being developed, extant, or in the process of
becoming extinct. However, there have been 5 times in the earth's history in which a tremendous
amount of extinctions took place in a relatively short period of time. The largest of these mass
extinctions was the K–T extinction which wiped out much of the earth's species, including the
dinosaurs. Scientists have firm evidence that a large comet struck the earth at the tip of the Yucatan
peninsula causing a large change in habitats and the earth's atmosphere.
However, humans have the capabilities to avoid this next mass extinction, because it is being caused
by humans themselves. Hundreds of

The Sixth Extinction Korbert
Being informed about what is going on around the world, for example how the sixth mass extinction
has and is occurring, is exactly what Elizabeth Kolbert teaches in the book The Sixth Extinction. I
can honestly say that I did not know that there were all these mechanisms of extinction going on.
The mechanisms that Kolbert addresses in this book are invasive species, catastrophe, human
overexploitation of resources, ocean acidification, and habitat fragmentation. Invasive species are an
important mechanism of this extinction because there are many different species of things that have
been relocating. An example of this she talks about in the book is how the American chestnut was
effected by humans. Humans introduced the chestnut to a fungus that made it poisonous to other
species. Which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is an example of human's overexploitation of resources. Before humans first arrived in Iceland,
the Great Auks had a great population that was overrun when the humans started to hunt them for
food, use them for mattresses and to fish with. It is understandable how people hunt for food to
survive, however the Great Auk couldn't have been the only source of food. Ocean acidification is a
term that describes significant changes to the chemistry of the ocean. It happens when carbon
dioxide gas is absorbed by the ocean and reacts with seawater to produce acid. This mechanism is
happening in the ocean that over time will affect the coral species. The last mechanism of extinction
is habitat fragmentation. This is the process by which habitat loss results in the division of large,
continuous habitats into smaller, more isolated remnants. A perfect example of this is the Sumatran
Rhino that was such a big population that was considered a pest until their habitat was fragmented.
This decreased their population and when put in captive breeding they decreased even

The reading states that safeguading of endangered species is unnatural and poses many drawbacks
and provides three reasons of support. However, the professor explains that the extinction of the
species should be prevented whenever possible because it has a bad consequence to the environment
and refutes each of the authors' reasons. First, the reading states that the extinction of the dinosaur
did not result in lasting harm to life on earth. The professor opposes this point by saying that after
the extinction of the dinosaur, a dramatic shift happened on the animals that were dominated our
environment. The professor states that human dominates the earth, so losing one species threat our
existence. Second, the reading states that with the

Florida Panther Extinction
The Florida panther is becoming close to extinction. The Florida panther is a subspecies of the
cougar that lives in forests and swamps in southwest Florida. They primarily eat white–tailed deer,
rabbits, birds and other small animals. Panthers are mostly active between dawn and dusk. Kittens
rarely survive that's why the panther is endangered and becoming close to extinction. The alert level
for this issue is a high alert level for these animals because as the years go on the panther population
is getting lower.
I am going to explain how panthers are becoming endangered. On Tuesday February 23, 2017 a
Florida panther was found dead on the side of the road. The Florida fish and wildlife conservation

As of this year so far five panthers have died with three road fatalities. In the years to come the
Florida panther could possibly become extinct if people are not careful on the roads. Back in 2016 a
young panther was found dead on the side of the road and in 2016 around 35 panthers were found
dead and 27 from road fatalities. The Florida fish and wildlife conservation is on the lookout for any
panthers in the area and making sure they are protected. To protect these panthers even better I think
the Florida fish and wildlife workers should put a tracking device on panthers to protect them from
the roads and to see what location they are in if they are near some roads or if they are safe in the
middle of a forest.
If people don't put a stop to people hitting panthers with their cars and killing them in the forests the
panther will soon become extinct. Panthers are a protection to our forests and wildlife. The alert
level for this issue is a high alert level because of how close they are to becoming extinct. I think
they should protect panthers as much as they could because if they put up fences around busy
highways they could save panthers from going extinct. The conservation of the fish and wildlife
committee is doing all they can to protect these panthers from coming

Extinction De-Extinction
De–extinction offers the possibility for extinct species to be brought back to life by reproductive
cloning. Critics argue that de–extinction will reduce the will of society to protect endangered
species, as well as harm the existing ecosystem upon species' reintroduction. However, supporters
argue that many species would be great candidates for de–extinction and will possibly be beneficial
to the ecosystem. I will argue that de–extinction should not be pursued. I will argue that
reintroduction of unextinct species could cause humanity to become disinterested in protecting
endangered species due to the loss of finality of extinction. Furthermore, re–introduction of extinct
species into ecosystems would negatively shift the balance, and may cause endangerment and
potential extinction of otherwise unharmed populations.
Some supporters of de–extinction believe it to be reasonable for reviving recently extinct species as
a last resort in their conservation. However, it is a common belief among critics that it is of greater
import to protect endangered species and reduce human impact so as to prevent extinction. Shapiro,
a supporter of de–extinction, argues that de–extinction should not compete for funding with
measures for protection of endangered species. However, she argues that both extinct and extant
species have valuable roles in maintenance of the ecosystem (2015, p. 195). In the same paper, she
admits that fears for an increase in the rate of extinction are valid for

Invasive Species Extinction
Humans have caused another extinction, one that could possibly take us down in the process,
species are exponentially going extinct because of habitat loss, species exportation, and invasive
species bullying native species. On the other hand, scientists are trying to safe guard native species,
keep animals in captivity whether it be for the animals well–being or for research, and widespread
invasion. In this essay I will be comparing and contrasting "What Everglades Pythons and Other
Invasive Species are Trying to Tell Us," by Julia Whitty and "The Sixth Extinction," by Jeff Corwin.
Habit loss has been one of the most prominent issues regarding the animal kingdom, and now it
seems like the human race is trying to rid our earth of the decreasing amount of flora in certain
areas. In Indonesia rain forests are being torn apart to make way for palm oil plantations. Although
palm oil is used in packages foods and cosmetics, the Sumatrans elephants and orangutan are
suffering from the habitats loss. (Corwin, 8)

Dinosaurs Extinction
You're on a weekend adventure at the Omaha Zoo. Your hopes are high to regard the roaring lions,
see the sea lions, and look at the lush plant life throughout the zoo. However, as you look around,
you realize that the animal enclosures are barren:wastelands of cement and trash. Then you see a
small sign that reads, "Extinct." You discover that ninety–five percent of animal and plant life that
were once main attractions of the zoo no longer encompass the earth. Extinction is a reality that
faces us today, and it is becoming even more prevalent as we progress into the future. Extinction
might seem like a far–off problem for [Noah's flood joke?] science fiction to deal with, but it isn't;
and it is important to know how and why extinction happens in our world today. Human beings play
a larger role in extinctions that what might be obvious at first glance: examining extinctions of the
past and present allows us to predict our own potential demise.

As far as extinctions of the past go, dinosaurs are the best known example of worldwide devastation

hypotheses. One point scientists are sure on, is that the reason for this mass extinction event is a

The Sixth Extinction Reflection
Summer Reading Reflection
I read The Sixth Extinction by Elizabeth Kolbert over this summer. It was a thoughtful book that
made me more aware of mother nature as well as the declining environmental health. Basically, the
author handled its large, weighty ideas by comparing the current environmental issues with the past
five major episodes of mass extinction. Nowadays, the world's undergoing a sixth mass extinction
period, with humans as the driving factor. In short, industrialization and globalization have ushered
in a new epoch in Earth 's history. People are significantly altering the Earth's land, ocean,
atmosphere, and life in a way that "no other creature has ever managed." A number of recent studies
shed light on the devastating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the book, the extinctions are occurring in all branches. A third of all reef–building
corals are endangered. So are a third of all freshwater mollusks, a third of sharks and rays, a quarter
of all mammals, a fifth of all reptiles, and a sixth of all birds. Human activities have compromised
the oceans, the original source of life and home still to much of the earth's plant and animal life.
Logging, converting forestland to other uses, and human–induced climate change were
exterminating whole species of trees as well as the plants and animals they sustained. It seems true
that Earth is a big place, but size isn 't everything. The planet 's richest ecosystems are in rapid
decline, forcing us to acknowledge that countless creatures worldwide are running out of room. We
should definitely do something to avert the first man–made mass extinction.
Globalization is another big topic came to my mind after reading this book. There are certain
advantages that globalization bring us, such as faster access to technology, improved communication
and innovation. Apart from playing a key role in bringing people of various backgrounds together, it
has ushered a new era in the economic prosperity and has opened up vast channels of development.
However, globalization also created some areas of concern, and prominent among these is the
impact that it has had on the environment. In

Extinction Of Animal Extinction
There have been five well known extinctions on this earth. The one most well known is the mass
extinction that ended the dinosaurs. Mass extinction is often described as the elimination of a large
number of species in a short period of time. Despite what many think, the elimination of species is
almost commonplace at this point. The Earth is currently in the middle of a sixth mass extinction,
and it's been caused by the human race.
It's clear that a great extinction is coming from the evidence of the destruction of other species
around us. The choices made by the human race have too often negatively affected the surrounding
species. Tracy Wilson, the site director for HowStuffWorks.com, in an article for Animal Planet,
states that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not to mention "...both groups emphasized that climate change would play an increasing role in
species decline..." (Gilman). Climate change is still a controversial topic to some, but many
scientists have proven that it's true. In fact, Neil Degrasse Tyson has given evidence to prove its
truth and already informed the world that it's too late to fix people's mistakes (Neil). The extinction
of species has been caused in certain instances by climate change, which is only getting worse.
People have continuously altered the environment to the point of harming other species. The human
race's tendency to destroy an environment greatly impacts the plants and animals residing there. To
be more specific, "Human destruction of animal and plant habitat...appear to be having a major
impact on extinction rates" (Wilson). Environmental degradation and habitat destruction are both
key players in the extinction of many world species. The impact people have had on the
environment is much bigger than most anticipate, as they both destroy and intervene with the
environment.
One specific way that humans have begun the process of world extinction is through their incessant
meddling with the environment. Not only do people destroy the environment with our wreckage and
pollution, but the human race has introduced species into other ecosystems, causing massive
repercussions. Referred to as invasive species, their introduction into a

The Evolution Of Species Extinction
Globally, most of the species (both flora and fauna) are under serious threat from direct and indirect
human activities; while the direct activities such as deforestation leads to species habitat
fragmentation and loss, on the other hand modifies climatic conditions coupled with gas emissions.
The synergistic impact of these human driven activities questions the survivability of organisms in
the morphed climatic environments. At one level fragmented habitats increase intra and inter species
competitions, resulting in decline of population of species, grouping them under rare and threatened
category. At other level, the amplified global temperatures in parallel with low precipitation rates,
not only creates unsuitable external habitat conditions but also impose internal changes in biological
clock and physiological processes of the organisms, in additions to their life history traits (Reynold
et al. 2003, Price and Gittleman, 2007). This kind of changed scenario both externally and internally,
brings incompatibility in the organism to cope with fluctuating climatic conditions, finally making
the species as vulnerable and forcing into the process of extinction.
The process of species extinction accelerated with rapid human activities and in the current scenario,
many species are in the queue of extinction. We are losing our uncounted valuable biodiversity, in a
sense, we still don't have exact idea of how many species are surviving globally, and we are losing
them before we

The Extinction Of The Dinosaurs Extinction
Imagine you were a dinosaur, living 65 million years ago. One day, you are going around doing
what you do on a normal basis, when suddenly you see a giant object coming towards the ground a
few hundred miles away from you. Then suddenly, it goes black as gases block out all light except
for one light coming rapidly towards you. Other dinosaurs are running away from the light as you
start following them. You look behind you to see the light is quickly catching up to you as suddenly
it catches you. You feel immense pain and then you are dead. I believe that the mass extinction of
the dinosaurs sixty–five million years ago was caused by an asteroid ten kilometers wide striking
just off of the coast of the Yucatan peninsula, that caused smoke to block out the sun and for
fireballs to shoot across the sky. About 65 million years ago, an asteroid is said to have crashed off
the coast of the Yucatan peninsula. This crash is what some scientists believe to be the reason the
dinosaurs went extinct. The first to believe that impact was the cause of the extinction were the
father–son duo of Luis and Walter Alvarez. They think that because of the crash the sun was blocked
out by dense clouds of dust. The crash also most likely didn't kill just the dinosaurs but, according to
PBS, "...caused the extinction of just the dinosaurs, but of up to 70 percent of all plants and animals
living at the time." The asteroid was also most likely not traveling very slowly. It is believed it was

Megafaunal Mass Extinction
During Late Pleistocene a megafaunal mass extinction took place. It's still debated whether humans
are to blame for this, since this megafaunal extinction happened after the arrival of humans or if
climate change is entirely to blame. Fossil evidence has been of great help in finding what factors
might've caused this extinction. This mass extinction that took place is related to the Anthropocene
because if humans were the main cause, humans need to be more careful now because their actions
may lead to more extinctions. The observations made were the types of species that went extinct
with climate change, and what humans did to contribute to this mass extinction. There are two
methods that have been used to measure the rate these extinctions have happened. The first approach
was using oxygen isotope data from benthic foraminifera. This data was gathered from the Pacific,
Atlantic, and Indian oceans. Moreover, the other approach is looking at the timing of vegetational
changes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, in the Southern Hemisphere there isn't a correct answer to why the extinction happened
since it happened before the Northern Hemisphere extinction and after humans were around
(Barnosky et al. 2004). In Southern America it's said that the extinctions happened after humans
arrived, but this isn't certain (Barnosky et al. 2004). What was found from these isotope records is
that the deglaciation was neither faster or greater than it's been in the past years. Also, the climate
changes that happened around the time of the Pleistocene extinction in North and South America,
Africa, and Eurasia were not uncommon (Barnosky et al. 2004). Furthermore, the timing of
vegetational changes correlates with the rate the extinctions took place in some countries, but in

Causes Of Animal Extinction
Across the world, animal extinction is a problem causing thousands of animals to die each year.
Throughout time hundreds of animals are being slaughtered across the world. Some of the animals
that we may know and love are slowly becoming extinct. Although it may not be animals such as
our precious dogs or adorable kittens, there are animals in the world slowly declining in their
population size. Animals such as rhinos, eagles, and different species of fish are becoming
endangered and some are on the brink of extinction. Animal extinction is a problem that is gaining
recognition across the world. The most known causes of animal extinction are habitat fragmentation,
poaching, and deforestation. The first problem animals face is habitat fragmentation. Habitat
fragmentation "is the process by which habitat loss results in the division of large, continuous
habitats into smaller, more isolated remnants". This is a problem because it means that large groups
of animals are losing their homes. This causes them to try and look for new homes for survival. This
later causes a problem for animals that have a small chance for survival without a home. For some
animals, their home is the most protective place for them. These animals may not possess many
predatory traits for survival. Unfortunately this makes them an easy target for the animals that are
big and dangerous. For the animals lucky enough to find a new home, they still have problems to
face for survival. Animals choose their habitat based on their environment. For a habitat to be
suitable, it has to fit the requirements for that animal. It should be close to a food source. It must be
an appropriate size for that animal. As well as provide a secure location for the animal and its
possible children. Once this habitat is destroyed, it is hard for an animal to find another home that it
fits their essential needs. This means that it may take too long for that animal to find a new home
which makes its chances of survival slim. This can be fixed by providing homes for those animals
that no longer have one. Rescue centers are working hard to find animals that have lost their homes.
Once they are found, the people nurture them back to a stable healthy state, and give

John Wiens, an evolutionary biologist at Stony Brook University in New York says, "There is a
terrible urgency to saving threatened species and habitats." He continues in saying "As far as I can
see, there is little urgency for bringing back extinct ones. Why invest millions of dollars in bring a
handful of species back from the dead, when there are millions still waiting to be discovered,
described, and protected?" This is a problem for many scientists and Paul R. Ehrlich states in his
article, The Case of De– Extinction:It is a Fascinating but Dumb Idea, says that "It is much more
sensible to put all the limited resources for science and conservation into preventing extinctions, by
tackling the causes of demise...." This is proving that de–extinction is a bad idea because of the facts
that it is more important to put money and research into conservation efforts. By focusing on de–
extinction. We are tearing away our focus on these efforts and putting it into something that may or
may not work. Something never tested that could possibly hurt not help the environment. Paul R
Ehrlich also states that "De–extinction seems far– fetched, financially problematic, and extremely
unlikely to succeed." With de– extinction hindering conservation efforts and being unlikely to
succeed it is clear that we should not even attempt de–extinction. However hindering conservation
efforts is only one way that de–extinction is a bad

The Ethics of De–Extinction
The concept of bringing a species back to life after it has gone extinct has been around for years.
The idea that dinosaurs will roam the earth again has fascinated mankind since the first dinosaur
fossils were first put together. Pop culture has even glorified this idea in a variety of books and
movies made about the topic, such as the famous Jurassic Park trilogy. In science fiction, there are
many ideas people have about brining the extinct back to life. Some of these theories have a grain of
truth to it, but today, the idea of bringing back a species is no longer science fiction, but will likely
be possible in the near future. This process is called De–Extinction. The most recent developments

known as the bucardo. After many attempts, one surrogate goat mother became pregnant and gave

seven years after the cloning of dolly the sheep in 2002, the first successfully cloned mammal.
Making the jump from cloning being impossible to nearly reviving a dead species just seven years
later shows proof how quickly this incredible technology is advances. It has now been over a decade
since the cloning of the bucardo, and the technology available now would very likely produce a
healthy clone. The only question now is, should we? Some in favor of de–extinction argue for the
possible medical benefits that could be learned by furthering research in this field. Most
pharmaceutical drugs are not made from scratch, but instead derived from natural compounds found

De Extinction Pros And Cons
In topics of scientific research, pros, in many ways, can provide reasoning to outweigh the cons.
De–extinction does this in certainty of different environmental and health benefits.
De–extinction could provide help "to preserve highly endangered species."(Text 1, Line 26) The
research of de–extinction would be able to help conserve small populations of species resulted from

The Negative Effects Of De-Extinction
De–extinction: a scientific breakthrough and a process in which humans can use genetic engineering
to bring back a species that was once extinct. Despite how intriguing it is that humans can
accomplish this, the act of using de–extinction to bring back different species can be detrimental to
the environments that they are introduced into. Humans can control how they create and modify a
species that they bring back from extinction, an example being which species they use to replicate
another species and the modifications they make for it to be able to thrive. However, once they are
let out into an environment, the control lessens and the species can kill off different creatures and
bring diseases to others, overall having a negative effect. There is no telling what a species will do if
it is brought back from extinction, especially if that particular species died off decades or centuries
ago and their habitat is no longer what it once was. There would be a chance that they would be
brought back from extinction only to go extinct again. De–extinction should be avoided because
there are too many risks such as costs, diseases, and the ideology that any species can come back
after going extinct. De–extinction is finally emerging and being more widely spoken about as
scientists and engineers plan the process of bringing back the passenger pigeon. This can create a
multitude of problems for the planet. De–extinction is the process in which a species is replicated or
made similar

Sixth Mass Extinction
The sixth mass extinction is the only one caused by another species. There are 200+ species a day
dying off. Human's waste of trash and littering is destroying ecosystems all over the globe. The sixth
mass extinction is creeping up on humanity, and we can prevent it but we are turning a blind eye to
this catastrophe.
The sixth mass extinction is was caused by humans in various ways such as poaching. Poaching is
huge in Europe and Africa, they hunt for tigers, then they use various parts of the tiger for many
things such as old western medicine, food, and there pelts are very rare on the market thus making
the skins expensive (Stopping Poaching). Rhinos are another one that's close to becoming extinct
because of poaching, they kill Rhinos because of there horns, the horns are a "symbol of wealth"
(Stopping Poaching). The human's need for more of everything is destroying, animals species and

We have been at war with each other since the beginning because we can't learn that everyone is the
same and not different. If we learned from the beginning that everyone was created equal then we
wouldn't have half the problems we would have. There has been a few cultures out there that cared
about the earth, like the indians, they only killed and took what they needed, until the british came
over and slaughtered the Indians and turned them against each other, for petty land, weapons or
food. Since the beginning we have been destroying the earth we have killed of it's species, we
caused massive deforestation all over the world. We cause massive amounts of pollution and no one
bats an eye because it's invisible and no one can see it, but if it was black, then we would've fixed

The Possibility Of De-Extinction In The World
Imagine a world where no human had the chance to live or have a life for themselves. There are
many species that get to experience what was just described. Lives are a thing of both the present,
past, and future and all eventually fade away. However, scientists through many, many years have
tried studying ways to bring back these lives. This idea and theory is called de–extinction. Many
believe it to be an amazing thing to possibly have, and millions more believe it to be a terrible idea.
Those who believe this to be a bad idea are afraid of a possible "Jurassic Park" type of outcome
where the species broke loose and killed people. Those who believe it's the right thing that needs to
be done believe it can help the world in many ways. Whether a world catastrophe would come from
the de–extinction of many, or any species is in question though. There is a belief that the world has
its own order and that the age of many animals and species is over, but if the ... Show more content

De–extinction has the capability of helping the environment, helping the world's biodiversity, and
quite possibly helping the economy. There are many options that are available through de–extinction
and the world has the possibility of becoming a greater place through it. Living has become a goal
for many species simply because extinction has become a larger threat for those many species. The
Earth's ecosystems are capable of rebirth and returning to the way they used to be. Through de–
extinction the world can grow and become something it used to be. It was a clean, open, free world
with opportunities in medicine, trade, and many other things. Through the years, humans have
become the enemy of the world itself. "Conservation is about the ecosystems that species define and
on which they depend" ( Pimm 10). De–extinction is a way for the biodiversity to be corrected from
the many mistakes we've made in the past. Life will always find a

Pros And Cons Of De-Extinction
De–extinction, the revival of extinct species through cloning, has reasons for and against it.
However, the Point argument supporting it was better because it explained how reviving these
species would not only be beneficial in that area of studies, but in science and the world as a whole.
There are many reasons stated for this, including the repairing of Earth and the expansion of human
knowledge and capabilities.
As stated in the Point argument, de–extinction is a way to undo what humans have done to nature,
and a way to prevent it. The argument explains, "[Woolly Mammoth's] return to the north would
bring back carbon–fixing grass and reduce greenhouse–gas–releasing tundra" (Point para 3). This
explains how bringing back extinct animals ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, "people have been critical about the space program since its inception" (Point para 7).
Even though people were skeptical, the space program has led scientists to establish things like
satellites, which give weather forecasts. The same thing could happen to de–extinction, and it could
completely change the world forever. In addition, "as controversial as all of it is, and possibly
because it's controversial, it's going to help drive interest in [species loss], in a way that conservation
by itself couldn't do..." (Point para 4). Because of all the interest in the subject of de–extinction, it
could lead to an inspiration to do more things to conserve life on the planet. If a lot of attention is
brought to a subject, there are more people interested that have a potential to do something about it.
Lastly the author writes, "the genome manipulation used in de–extinction research might bring
about even more marvels" (Point para 7). One of the "marvels" that could come out of this is human
health. If scientists are able to manipulate DNA and essentially life itself, there would be endless
possibilities for what they could manipulate in humans, like disease prevention and even physical
attributes. An argument could be that de–extinction is unethical because it is impossible to recreate
the habitat for those animals, so they would suffer. They died for a reason, usually along with their

Stop Animal Extinction
Have you heard that many animals today are going extinct because of people polluting the water, air
Also because they are hunting animals for their fur, skins, and horns. But with your hearing the
research I have conducted, I think you can also help stop animal extinction.I wanted to research this
because I like animals and I want to stop animal extinction. I have been reading and learning about
animals for my whole life . when I figured out that animal extinction meant animals are going to not
be existing anymore, I knew I had to research about animal extinction. Have you asked yourself?
What causes animal extinction? Well, what causes animal extinction is deforestation, greenhouse
gases, forest fires, and pollution. "By burning fossil fuels, we are making hotter temperatures,
melting polar glaciers Globally, power generation is responsible for about 23 billion tonnes of CO2
emissions per year" "Greenhouses gases, such as carbon dioxide, trap heat in the atmosphere and
regulate our climate. These gases exist naturally, but humans adding more carbon dioxide by
burning fossil fuels for energy (coal, oil, and natural gas) and by clearing forests.Greenhouse gases
act like a blanket. The thicker the blanket, the warmer our planet becomes. At the same time, the
Earth's oceans are also absorbing some of this extra carbon dioxide, making them more acidic and
less hospitable to sea life I think that animals cannot be stopped but helped because animals are

The Sixth Extinction Book Report
Five mass extinctions have occurred throughout the history of planet Earth. It is predicted by Author
Elizabeth Kolbert, that a sixth extinction may be underway. The Sixth Extinction is a book in the
viewpoint of Kolbert and narrates her travels around the globe while she studies numerous wildlife
species. Kolbert claims that ¨Those of us alive today not only are witnessing one of the rarest events
in life's history, we are also causing it," (Kolbert, Page 8). Throughout her work, Kolbert claims that
numerous species are decreasing in population due to harmful human activities, which could lead to
a global disaster.
One species that continues to dwindle are amphibians. The book begins with Kolbert's trip to
Panama where she discovered amphibians were decreasing at an alarming rate. During her trip, she
finds that over 7,000 species of amphibians were becoming extinct worldwide (Kolbert, Page 11).
Kolbert's assumption that a sixth extinction is under way proves to be true because there is a
continuous decrease of amphibians today. Camila Ruz states in her article that "Around half of
amphibian species are in decline, while a third are already threatened with extinction," (Ruz, 2011).
The reasons supporting this dramatic decrease revolves around climate change and habitat loss. The

claims successfully explain the patterns of life on Earth through numerous studies and she explains

Earth's biological and geochemical systems. Her work will continue to teach future readers the
danger of human lifestyles if necessary actions toward sustainability are not taken. If humans
continue to live their harmful lifestyles, then they will continue to danger wildlife species, the

What Are The Causes Of The Sixth Extinction
Imagine yourself heading to the grocery store to buy groceries. You head inside the small store and
look around for the milk in the coolers. Except there isn't any milk on those shelves. You continue to
look around for meat, eggs, and cheese. All gone. Of course, for now, this is just a simulation but it
could turn into a harsh reality faster than you think. For the past 200 years, human behavior
threatens to push our planet into the sixth mass extinction of life through rapid deforestation,
pollution, over–population, and many other deadly reasons; if not enough effort is put towards
stopping this massive extinction then the human race does not have much time left. With the mass
extinction on the rise, there will not be any meat, eggs, cheese, and milk on the shelves but we may
not been even around to take those products off of those shelves...

Essay On Animal Extinction
Pleading Guilty to Animal Extinction Animal extinction rates have skyrocketed within recent years
due to the numerous detrimental human and environmental activities that currently wreak havoc on
our planet. Human beings alone are placing enough strain on animals to leave lasting and harmful
effects for years to come. Due to the steadily growing population, individuals are turning untouched
pieces of land into developmental projects to benefit humans. However, these sources of land are
home to a multitude of species whom are now struggling to survive due to these changes to their
habitat. Along with dismantling species environments, some individuals are also engaging in illegal
wildlife trade in order to keep up with the growing demand for numerous types of products. In
addition, deforestation is another activity humans participate in that negatively impacts animals
environments to benefit their own. However, there are also numerous types of environmental
activities that affect animals as well. Climate change and different types of pollution are proving to
be harmful as well. Overall, unless action is taken to overcome the consequences animals currently
face due to the harmful activities caused by humans and environmental factors, species will continue
to fall victim to extinction. Animals are losing their habitats at a rapid rate due to the detrimental
acts humans engage in throughout their life. Individuals are destroying animals habitats in order to
fulfill the wants

Extinction Of The Houston Toad
The most effective way to prevent them from going through extinction is to restore and augment
their environment. One of the greatest causes for their endangerment is the shrinking of the Houston
toad's habitat, either through fires or urbanization. Their main home, Bastrop State Park, was
devastated by an immense fire, greatly decreasing their numbers. By fixing the burned forest, it
gives the toad more land to live which will leave them in a vulnerable status. In other words, the
more the habitat there is, the more Houston toads there will be. Many organizations such as the U.S
Fish and Wildlife Services and Houston zoo have joined the fight to help these creatures. To begin
with, funding is necessary to accomplish the revamping of the land.

Extinction : A Radical History
Extinction: A Radical History is a book published by writer, professor and activist Ashley Dawson.
It was published on the 22nd of April 2016. Dawson talks about multiple broad subjects in his book
like how Capitalism is the main source of mass extinction. By doing so, he takes into account the
lengthy history of the Homo Sapiens species, their activities and their discoveries and how us,
humans, have affected today's biodiversity, and probably the future of our planet Earth. He also
offers solutions but are they realistically possible? Today, we no longer face natural risks like
asteroids and comets. As Dawson states we now face anthropogenic risks like climate change and
biodiversity loss which leads to a change in the earth's ecosystem.
First of all, Dawson opens the subject on mass extinction and assures that a sixth extinction will
happen (if it did not start already) if capitalism is maintained. Dawson starts his book with a graphic
and horrendous description of a dead Satao: "His face was wacked off. Left prostate in the red dust,
to be preyed on by vultures, his body remained intact except for the obscene hole where his
magnificent six foot long tusks used to be. Satao was a so–called tusker, an African elephant with a
rare genetic strain that produced tusks so

Why Is Extinction Important To Evolution?
In evolution species come and go, they live and compete and die out. Extinction is important to
evolution because it creates new species and new forms of life. Conditions change such as climate
change, a new predator arrives and other geological effects that affect the way a certain individual
species change and or die out due to not being able to adapt. Dinosaurs were dominant until they fell
than Mammals begin to evolve and adapt. I do believe that mass extinction is happening today and if
not today sometime soon due to humans. If mass extinction isn't happening now I believe that it will
happen eventually because like in the film "Extinction" in order to have evolution extinction of
some species has to take place. In the film the number

Sixth Great Extinction
1)attention grabber: Here on Earth today we are living through a time known as the sixth great
extinction, at least according to certain scientists.
2)listener relevance: Many species go extinct daily, which ruins ecosystems and causes extinction to
other organisms that live in that environment. Which leads to extinction of larger organisms and
possibly could even lead to us.
3)speaker credibility: I believe that we need help preserve our planet and species that live here as
best as we can to prevent the destruction of Earth and the many organisms that live here. Without
plants and animals we would not be able to survive.

A.sub–point: As stated under the Endangered Species Act, more than 1,300 U.S. plants and animals
already have been federally listed as threatened or endangered and protected. That is a lot of species
at risk of going extinct, fortunately groups such as these are able to possible avoid that from
happening. Though some may never be able to return to the wild if the habitat they live in is
completely gone from in the outside world, they would not be able to survive. So preserving habitats
for these animals is also a key factor of keeping species from going extinct.
B.sub–point: The National Wildlife Federation helps restore and protect endangered species by
restoring habitats along with defending the Endangered Species Act, lowing threats to the species,
and many other key factors of keeping a species from dying out.

Cons Of De-Extinction
Extinction is defined as: the state or situation that results when something, such as plant or animal
species, have died out completely (Merriam–Webster). The World Wildlife Foundation, otherwise
known as the WWF, says that experts estimate that the loss of animals is estimated to be between
1,000 and 10,000 times higher than the natural extinction rate. Experts calculate that between 0.01
and 0.1% of all species become extinct each year. Although this may seem like quite low numbers it
reality is it quite large. If the lower estimate is correct, then out of the estimated two million species
on the planet, then an estimated two–hundred and two thousand species will become extinct each
year. If the larger estimate is correct and that there are an estimated 100 million different species on
the planet, then that results in ten thousand and one–hundred thousand species who become extinct
each year (WWF). Experts say that of all the species that existed on this planet, 99.9% are now
extinct (PBS). However, what if they could be brought back? Years ago, species such as the

This includes scientific knowledge, technological advancement, environmental benefits, justice, and
wonder. Scientific knowledge refers to the fact that de–extinction could offer insight into the
evolution of species. Technological advancement would occur meaning it would be a huge step
forward for genetic engineering. The environmental benefits include the facts that de–extinction
could restore and fix threatened or damaged ecosystems. Many people also fell that we owe these
animals justice since humans are the reason a vast majority of these animals have gone extinct in the
first place. Finally, many would wonder what it would be like to see a species that was previously

Mass Extinction
Extinction is the end of an organism or group of taxa. Extinctions occur when a species becomes
unfit for survival in its natural habitat usually to be replaced by another, better–suited species. An
organism becomes ill–suited for survival because its environment is changed or because its
relationship to other organisms is altered as stated from Credo Reference. The moment of extinction
is generally considered to be the death of the last individual of that particular species. Mass
extinctions, however, are rare events that only happen every few million years. Only recently have
these events been recorded and scientist have become alarmed at these recent extinctions. Most
extinctions aren't even documented and some predict that most of ... Show more content on

They believe that a large asteroid was the cause of Cretaceous' mass extinction. A large crater was
found in the Caribbean Sea near the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico, which is about 65 million years
old. (Campell)
A large impact from an asteroid like this would cause global darkness from the amounts of dust sent
into the air. This dust would stop photosynthesis for plants which in all would affect every source of
live in the area (Thomas). This darkness would also cause the area to cool which could also kill off
organisms. Another would be an impact from a comet, such as the comet that exploded above
southeastern Siberia in 1908 (Thomas). The last factor is a Supernova explosion, which isn't the case
for earth since there is no evidence that this influenced life on earth.
The consequences of mass extinctions affect biological diversity greatly. By removing large
numbers species, this could reduce thriving and complex communities. These events are random and
effect species greatly, permanently removing species with highly advantageous features and change
the course of evolution forever. Whenever extinctions occur, a trickledown effect can occur. An
example of this could be how a certain plant may go extinct, and a worm eats that plant.
That worm would eventually die out because of the food source being gone. A bird would also be
affected by this since it can't eat that worm which is his only food source. The fossil record shows
that it typically takes 5 to 19 million

nature, and the extinction of the great apes can be devastating to the balance of nature. Great apes
are animals that are not often thought to be extinct because they are such as well known species of
animal, so the fact that four out of six great apes are nearing extinction is a big problem. This article
also captured my attention because the title makes a very broad and serious claim. Saying that "four
out of six great apes are one step towards extinction" is very serious and makes it seem like the
majority of the great ape population will be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There seemed to be a widespread decline in the Eastern Gorilla species, they moved from the
Endangered list to the Critically Endangered list. The rapid decline in the species of great apes had
to be due to a certain factor. In the investigation, researchers accounted for the loss of great apes, the
"population decline was more than 70% in 20 years" and now the population is fewer than 5,000.
With this data set, the researches were able to interpret the data and realize a rapid decrease in
population. Accounting for the reduction in population is the best way to asses the problem of the
nearing extinction. There currently are laws that are in place on the killing and capture of great apes.
It is illegal to hunt great apes but the main reason they are declining rapidly is due to hunting. This is
also a pattern found in the reduction of population of different animals such as the "once widespread
Plains Zebra". The Plains Zebra have been reduced to 24% in the past 14 years and were only found
in protected areas. For this reason, researchers were led to believe the majority of the population loss
were in non protected areas where the animals were hunted for bushmeat and

migrating wildlife. In south Africa, companies have put non–native trees in the grassland which is
taking away nutrients from the area. In the Florida Everglades, they're only about 80 Florida

Extinction Of Dinosaurs Extinction
The extinction of dinosaurs could have been caused by many different things. One main reason that
is thought around the world is that dinosaurs went extinct because an asteroid fell onto earth at
speeds that are too fast for the human mind to even imagine. This idea was thought when and
asteroid crater was found near mexico. Also to support the facts many scientist found traces of rare
metal onto the earth's surface. This metal is not very common here but is really common in outer
space. Today we will be looking at why these huge creatures died of the face of the planet in just a
matter of months.
One reason, these greatebeastes were exterminated was that they alter the asteroid hit the ground a
huge ball of dust and debris was sent into the earth. This dust covered the earth in just a matter of
hours. This was crucial to their extinction because the sun was blocked plants did not receive and
sun light and herbivorous ( plant eating animals) could not get any food from the plants because
most of the plants died. This was just one of the first reasons that the dinosaur race was wiped of
this earth. You may ask how big the asteroid had to be, well put it into perspective the asteroid was
about the size of 110 empire state buildings and had the weight of 211,000 empire states buildings
put together. This asteroid was the biggest asteroid to ever hit earth that we know of. This big of a

The Extinction Of The Tortoise In Galapagos

  • 1. The Extinction Of The Tortoise In Galapagos A recent article has been posted of a 100 year old tortoise named Diego who is responsible for saving its species. The tortoises in Galapagos were almost in near extinction and this because the very few males that are on the island did not seem an interest to the females, which slowed down the population rate. The tortoise lives in a breeding center in Santa Cruz but is from a species called Chelnoidis Hoodensis, which is a species that that is only found in Espanola. Knowing the history of this Diego and seeing how he has produced many offspring before they decided to take him to Galapagos and he has more than succeeded in helping repopulate. A tortoise specialist named Tapia say's "He's contributed enormously to repopulating the island" and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. De-Extinction Essay Did you know that scientists are trying to bring extinct animals like the Woolly Mammoth back to life? That would be cool to see, but is it worth it? Scientists should not bring Woolly Mammoths back to life. It would be a waste of money, it brings less attention to animals about to go extinct, and it could hurt the ecosystem. First, bringing back extinct animals would be a waste of money. In the passage De–Extinction Probably Isn't Worth it it says,"Five recently extinct species would come at the cost of conversation efforts for keeping forty two animals"(Zielisk, S., 2017). This supports my opinion because keeping forty two animals alive is a lot of money. Wasting that on only five extinct animals is insane for me. Also, on Back From the Dead it says," But the clone, born with lung defects, only lasted seven minutes"(n.a., n.d.). This explains my reason because you could be keeping forty two animals alive, but instead you brought an animal back to life, only to live seven minutes. Not only would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the passage De–Extinction Probably Isn't Worth it it says,"Even if they're successful, it is probably a bad idea because it would divert conversation money from still–living animals"(Zielisk, S., 2017). This shows my opinion because they spent so much money on trying to de–extinct animals, there would be no more money to take care of all of the still–living animals about to go extinct. According to the passage Back From the Dead it says," Scientists also worry that if scientists can bring extinct animals back, no one will care about keeping endangered species from becoming extinct"(n.a., n.d.). This supports my opinion because even if they did pull of to have enough money, no–one would care about the endangered species and they would eventually die off. To me, that is not a good thing. These animals hurting the ecosystem does not sound like a good thing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. De-Extinction Species De–extinction is so cool but there is no asherens it will go exactly as planned. It can have so many full backs like desys and another dust bowl because of all the grass and food reward to feed these creatures and they don't care if you need that land of that grass or anything about the fall back they just want to eat.One thing is,¨Species could carry retroviruses or pathogens when brought back to life.¨They could seriously harm other species that are alive and that same virus or pathogen could mutate and harm us humans to and the very thing we tried to save ends up killing us right after we save its species. Also, ¨De–extinct species would be alien and potentially invasive...¨ Which this means that the de–extinct species could petenshely take ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What also could happen is, ¨people may cause individuals of the de–extinct species harm.¨We can do what we did to make a lot of the species we are trying to bring back extinct like depending on the species we can spend all this money on bring it back and then we can hunt it to the point of extinction agenda and then it would be a massive waste of resources and money. ¨their habitats and food sources have changed, so their roles in these changed ecosystems could be too.¨This is the nice and the scary thing about this is you have all this power as one of the so called higher species in the web of life but you can also imagen and see what stepig past awer roll could do like the–firestation is cadastrofik and that is only because we felt we had the right to play the creator and in tern we could do something similar to the ecosystem if we go threw with this. ¨Is de–extinction playing god, or just plain wrong?¨ potential problems and sichuwashens that could ever at any time and destroy everything that is interesting about this. There are cool things to this as well but that but needs to stay in the back of the mind so as i show you what is intriguing you don't lose what could ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. The Extinction Of The Bison Imagine walking in your backyard and seeing a dangerous buffalo that is twice the size as a cow eating your grass. That would be terrifying to witness, but that scene would most likely not happen in today's world because the bison were almost driven to extinction during the 19th and 20th century. The Indians needed buffalo for their primary food source, so they would hunt bison. Then, Euro–Americans came along and disrupted the system for the Indians. There is an argument for who is to blame for the near–extinction of the bison. Some believe the blame all falls on the Indians as they over–hunted. Others may feel that the blame goes on the Euro–Americans who impacted the system by getting involved with bison. Consequently, I believe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One would think that a lesson would be learned because "by the last quarter of the eighteenth century, as the plains nomads accumulated beaver pelts for trade with Europeans, they steadily exterminated the beaver" (Isenberg 50). The Indians would acquire horses, corn, and tobacco for trading the beaver skin, but they took out an area full of beavers. This situation was similar to the shrinking bison population and it was a sign of what could come if they continued to over–hunt and trade with the Euro–Americans. Vulnerability took over the Indians as they continued to trade with the Euro–Americans. The trade consisted of bison or bison parts in exchange for weapons and alcohol. Over–hunting took place because of this trading between the two. The Indians became greedy to hunt, so they needed better weapons and this showed as the bison population was shrinking. Another basic need was alcohol and it took over as a popular trade and once consumed, it did not burden the nomads (Isenberg 104). A gallon of alcohol would sell for five prime bison robes and this showed how much the Indians valued alcohol. Whiskey was needed and it was included in the trade for bison products. Therefore, hunting for bison became much more important because the Indians would get a reward from supplying bison parts. This looks bad on the Indians as their motives for killing off bison was their need for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Dinosaurs Extinction After a field trip to the zoo children return home to discover their suburban backyards to be transformed to jungles, their dogs to be tigers, and their own hands to be the paws of a great lion. A trip to the river enthralls kids with excitement as they try to grasp the tiny minnows with their hands, as they run in terror from the geese they got too close to, and as they admire the cattails just out of their reach. Humans grow up in awe of the beauty the earth holds from the great cats to the simple plants that line the forest floor. However, as adults, they are in the process of driving much of it to extinction. If this pattern continues, many animals children have grown up seeing, loving, and dreaming of will be stuffed in museums and observed just as dinosaurs are now. Extinction is the natural path of all species. All species are either being developed, extant, or in the process of becoming extinct. However, there have been 5 times in the earth's history in which a tremendous amount of extinctions took place in a relatively short period of time. The largest of these mass extinctions was the K–T extinction which wiped out much of the earth's species, including the dinosaurs. Scientists have firm evidence that a large comet struck the earth at the tip of the Yucatan peninsula causing a large change in habitats and the earth's atmosphere. However, humans have the capabilities to avoid this next mass extinction, because it is being caused by humans themselves. Hundreds of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. The Sixth Extinction Korbert Being informed about what is going on around the world, for example how the sixth mass extinction has and is occurring, is exactly what Elizabeth Kolbert teaches in the book The Sixth Extinction. I can honestly say that I did not know that there were all these mechanisms of extinction going on. The mechanisms that Kolbert addresses in this book are invasive species, catastrophe, human overexploitation of resources, ocean acidification, and habitat fragmentation. Invasive species are an important mechanism of this extinction because there are many different species of things that have been relocating. An example of this she talks about in the book is how the American chestnut was effected by humans. Humans introduced the chestnut to a fungus that made it poisonous to other species. Which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is an example of human's overexploitation of resources. Before humans first arrived in Iceland, the Great Auks had a great population that was overrun when the humans started to hunt them for food, use them for mattresses and to fish with. It is understandable how people hunt for food to survive, however the Great Auk couldn't have been the only source of food. Ocean acidification is a term that describes significant changes to the chemistry of the ocean. It happens when carbon dioxide gas is absorbed by the ocean and reacts with seawater to produce acid. This mechanism is happening in the ocean that over time will affect the coral species. The last mechanism of extinction is habitat fragmentation. This is the process by which habitat loss results in the division of large, continuous habitats into smaller, more isolated remnants. A perfect example of this is the Sumatran Rhino that was such a big population that was considered a pest until their habitat was fragmented. This decreased their population and when put in captive breeding they decreased even ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, the professor explains that the extinction of the species should be prevented whenever possible because it has a bad consequence to the environment and refutes each of the authors' reasons. First, the reading states that the extinction of the dinosaur did not result in lasting harm to life on earth. The professor opposes this point by saying that after the extinction of the dinosaur, a dramatic shift happened on the animals that were dominated our environment. The professor states that human dominates the earth, so losing one species threat our existence. Second, the reading states that with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They primarily eat white–tailed deer, rabbits, birds and other small animals. Panthers are mostly active between dawn and dusk. Kittens rarely survive that's why the panther is endangered and becoming close to extinction. The alert level for this issue is a high alert level for these animals because as the years go on the panther population is getting lower. I am going to explain how panthers are becoming endangered. On Tuesday February 23, 2017 a Florida panther was found dead on the side of the road. The Florida fish and wildlife conservation found the dead ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As of this year so far five panthers have died with three road fatalities. In the years to come the Florida panther could possibly become extinct if people are not careful on the roads. Back in 2016 a young panther was found dead on the side of the road and in 2016 around 35 panthers were found dead and 27 from road fatalities. The Florida fish and wildlife conservation is on the lookout for any panthers in the area and making sure they are protected. To protect these panthers even better I think the Florida fish and wildlife workers should put a tracking device on panthers to protect them from the roads and to see what location they are in if they are near some roads or if they are safe in the middle of a forest. If people don't put a stop to people hitting panthers with their cars and killing them in the forests the panther will soon become extinct. Panthers are a protection to our forests and wildlife. The alert level for this issue is a high alert level because of how close they are to becoming extinct. I think they should protect panthers as much as they could because if they put up fences around busy highways they could save panthers from going extinct. • 33. Extinction De-Extinction De–extinction offers the possibility for extinct species to be brought back to life by reproductive cloning. Critics argue that de–extinction will reduce the will of society to protect endangered species, as well as harm the existing ecosystem upon species' reintroduction. However, supporters argue that many species would be great candidates for de–extinction and will possibly be beneficial to the ecosystem. I will argue that de–extinction should not be pursued. I will argue that reintroduction of unextinct species could cause humanity to become disinterested in protecting endangered species due to the loss of finality of extinction. Furthermore, re–introduction of extinct species into ecosystems would negatively shift the balance, and may cause endangerment and potential extinction of otherwise unharmed populations. Some supporters of de–extinction believe it to be reasonable for reviving recently extinct species as a last resort in their conservation. However, it is a common belief among critics that it is of greater import to protect endangered species and reduce human impact so as to prevent extinction. Shapiro, a supporter of de–extinction, argues that de–extinction should not compete for funding with measures for protection of endangered species. However, she argues that both extinct and extant species have valuable roles in maintenance of the ecosystem (2015, p. 195). Invasive Species Extinction Humans have caused another extinction, one that could possibly take us down in the process, species are exponentially going extinct because of habitat loss, species exportation, and invasive species bullying native species. On the other hand, scientists are trying to safe guard native species, keep animals in captivity whether it be for the animals well–being or for research, and widespread invasion. In this essay I will be comparing and contrasting "What Everglades Pythons and Other Invasive Species are Trying to Tell Us," by Julia Whitty and "The Sixth Extinction," by Jeff Corwin. Habit loss has been one of the most prominent issues regarding the animal kingdom, and now it seems like the human race is trying to rid our earth of the decreasing amount of flora in certain areas. In Indonesia rain forests are being torn apart to make way for palm oil plantations. Although palm oil is used in packages foods and cosmetics, the Sumatrans elephants and orangutan are suffering from the habitats loss. • 41. Dinosaurs Extinction You're on a weekend adventure at the Omaha Zoo. Your hopes are high to regard the roaring lions, see the sea lions, and look at the lush plant life throughout the zoo. However, as you look around, you realize that the animal enclosures are barren:wastelands of cement and trash. Then you see a small sign that reads, "Extinct." You discover that ninety–five percent of animal and plant life that were once main attractions of the zoo no longer encompass the earth. Extinction is a reality that faces us today, and it is becoming even more prevalent as we progress into the future. Extinction might seem like a far–off problem for [Noah's flood joke?] science fiction to deal with, but it isn't; and it is important to know how and why extinction happens in our world today. Human beings play a larger role in extinctions that what might be obvious at first glance: examining extinctions of the past and present allows us to predict our own potential demise. As Queen said... AOBTD As far as extinctions of the past go, dinosaurs are the best known example of worldwide devastation of a single species. The origin of the dinosaur destruction that marks the end of the Cretaceous era is a scientific enigma. Although scientists are uncertain of the exact cause of this mass extinction, according to columnist Ker Than in a 2013 issue of National Geographic, there are just a few viable hypotheses. One point scientists are sure on, is that the reason for this mass extinction event is a natural ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. The Sixth Extinction Reflection Summer Reading Reflection I read The Sixth Extinction by Elizabeth Kolbert over this summer. It was a thoughtful book that made me more aware of mother nature as well as the declining environmental health. Basically, the author handled its large, weighty ideas by comparing the current environmental issues with the past five major episodes of mass extinction. Nowadays, the world's undergoing a sixth mass extinction period, with humans as the driving factor. In short, industrialization and globalization have ushered in a new epoch in Earth 's history. People are significantly altering the Earth's land, ocean, atmosphere, and life in a way that "no other creature has ever managed." A number of recent studies shed light on the devastating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to the book, the extinctions are occurring in all branches. A third of all reef–building corals are endangered. So are a third of all freshwater mollusks, a third of sharks and rays, a quarter of all mammals, a fifth of all reptiles, and a sixth of all birds. Human activities have compromised the oceans, the original source of life and home still to much of the earth's plant and animal life. Logging, converting forestland to other uses, and human–induced climate change were exterminating whole species of trees as well as the plants and animals they sustained. It seems true that Earth is a big place, but size isn 't everything. The planet 's richest ecosystems are in rapid decline, forcing us to acknowledge that countless creatures worldwide are running out of room. We should definitely do something to avert the first man–made mass extinction. Globalization is another big topic came to my mind after reading this book. There are certain advantages that globalization bring us, such as faster access to technology, improved communication and innovation. Apart from playing a key role in bringing people of various backgrounds together, it has ushered a new era in the economic prosperity and has opened up vast channels of development. However, globalization also created some areas of concern, and prominent among these is the impact that it has had on the environment. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Jaguar, also known as the Panthera onca, was an animal that was found throughout the woods along the western coast. A threatened species which means that in the near future the species will be on the brink of extinction. The Jaguar is a near threatened species and the population is decreasing due to slash and burn of their habitats. Poaching is also causing decline in the population. Currently they can only be found on the rarest occasion in woods along the mexican border. They were nearly hunted to extinction and for a brief period were believed to be until sightings in Arizona and New Mexico. Jaguars habitats can be found in wet lowlands and in areas with ... • 53. Extinction Of Animal Extinction There have been five well known extinctions on this earth. The one most well known is the mass extinction that ended the dinosaurs. Mass extinction is often described as the elimination of a large number of species in a short period of time. Despite what many think, the elimination of species is almost commonplace at this point. The Earth is currently in the middle of a sixth mass extinction, and it's been caused by the human race. It's clear that a great extinction is coming from the evidence of the destruction of other species around us. The choices made by the human race have too often negatively affected the surrounding species. Tracy Wilson, the site director for HowStuffWorks.com, in an article for Animal Planet, states that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not to mention "...both groups emphasized that climate change would play an increasing role in species decline..." (Gilman). Climate change is still a controversial topic to some, but many scientists have proven that it's true. In fact, Neil Degrasse Tyson has given evidence to prove its truth and already informed the world that it's too late to fix people's mistakes (Neil). The extinction of species has been caused in certain instances by climate change, which is only getting worse. People have continuously altered the environment to the point of harming other species. The human race's tendency to destroy an environment greatly impacts the plants and animals residing there. To be more specific, "Human destruction of animal and plant habitat...appear to be having a major impact on extinction rates" (Wilson). Environmental degradation and habitat destruction are both key players in the extinction of many world species. The impact people have had on the environment is much bigger than most anticipate, as they both destroy and intervene with the environment. One specific way that humans have begun the process of world extinction is through their incessant meddling with the environment. Not only do people destroy the environment with our wreckage and pollution, but the human race has introduced species into other ecosystems, causing massive repercussions. Referred to as invasive species, their introduction into a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 57. The Evolution Of Species Extinction Globally, most of the species (both flora and fauna) are under serious threat from direct and indirect human activities; while the direct activities such as deforestation leads to species habitat fragmentation and loss, on the other hand modifies climatic conditions coupled with gas emissions. The synergistic impact of these human driven activities questions the survivability of organisms in the morphed climatic environments. At one level fragmented habitats increase intra and inter species competitions, resulting in decline of population of species, grouping them under rare and threatened category. At other level, the amplified global temperatures in parallel with low precipitation rates, not only creates unsuitable external habitat conditions but also impose internal changes in biological clock and physiological processes of the organisms, in additions to their life history traits (Reynold et al. 2003, Price and Gittleman, 2007). This kind of changed scenario both externally and internally, brings incompatibility in the organism to cope with fluctuating climatic conditions, finally making the species as vulnerable and forcing into the process of extinction. The process of species extinction accelerated with rapid human activities and in the current scenario, many species are in the queue of extinction. We are losing our uncounted valuable biodiversity, in a sense, we still don't have exact idea of how many species are surviving globally, and we are losing them before we ... • 65. The Extinction Of The Dinosaurs Extinction Imagine you were a dinosaur, living 65 million years ago. One day, you are going around doing what you do on a normal basis, when suddenly you see a giant object coming towards the ground a few hundred miles away from you. Then suddenly, it goes black as gases block out all light except for one light coming rapidly towards you. Other dinosaurs are running away from the light as you start following them. You look behind you to see the light is quickly catching up to you as suddenly it catches you. You feel immense pain and then you are dead. I believe that the mass extinction of the dinosaurs sixty–five million years ago was caused by an asteroid ten kilometers wide striking just off of the coast of the Yucatan peninsula, that caused smoke to block out the sun and for fireballs to shoot across the sky. About 65 million years ago, an asteroid is said to have crashed off the coast of the Yucatan peninsula. This crash is what some scientists believe to be the reason the dinosaurs went extinct. The first to believe that impact was the cause of the extinction were the father–son duo of Luis and Walter Alvarez. They think that because of the crash the sun was blocked out by dense clouds of dust. The crash also most likely didn't kill just the dinosaurs but, according to PBS, "...caused the extinction of just the dinosaurs, but of up to 70 percent of all plants and animals living at the time." It's still debated whether humans are to blame for this, since this megafaunal extinction happened after the arrival of humans or if climate change is entirely to blame. Fossil evidence has been of great help in finding what factors might've caused this extinction. This mass extinction that took place is related to the Anthropocene because if humans were the main cause, humans need to be more careful now because their actions may lead to more extinctions. The observations made were the types of species that went extinct with climate change, and what humans did to contribute to this mass extinction. There are two methods that have been used to measure the rate these extinctions have happened. The first approach was using oxygen isotope data from benthic foraminifera. This data was gathered from the Pacific, Atlantic, and Indian oceans. Moreover, the other approach is looking at the timing of vegetational changes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What was found from these isotope records is that the deglaciation was neither faster or greater than it's been in the past years. Also, the climate changes that happened around the time of the Pleistocene extinction in North and South America, Africa, and Eurasia were not uncommon (Barnosky et al. 2004). • 73. Causes Of Animal Extinction Across the world, animal extinction is a problem causing thousands of animals to die each year. Throughout time hundreds of animals are being slaughtered across the world. Some of the animals that we may know and love are slowly becoming extinct. Although it may not be animals such as our precious dogs or adorable kittens, there are animals in the world slowly declining in their population size. Animals such as rhinos, eagles, and different species of fish are becoming endangered and some are on the brink of extinction. Animal extinction is a problem that is gaining recognition across the world. The most known causes of animal extinction are habitat fragmentation, poaching, and deforestation. The first problem animals face is habitat fragmentation. Habitat fragmentation "is the process by which habitat loss results in the division of large, continuous habitats into smaller, more isolated remnants". This is a problem because it means that large groups of animals are losing their homes. This causes them to try and look for new homes for survival. This later causes a problem for animals that have a small chance for survival without a home. For some animals, their home is the most protective place for them. These animals may not possess many predatory traits for survival. Unfortunately this makes them an easy target for the animals that are big and dangerous. For the animals lucky enough to find a new home, they still have problems to face for survival. Animals choose their habitat based on their environment. For a habitat to be suitable, it has to fit the requirements for that animal. It should be close to a food source. It must be an appropriate size for that animal. As well as provide a secure location for the animal and its possible children. Once this habitat is destroyed, it is hard for an animal to find another home that it fits their essential needs. This means that it may take too long for that animal to find a new home which makes its chances of survival slim. This can be fixed by providing homes for those animals that no longer have one. Rescue centers are working hard to find animals that have lost their homes. Once they are found, the people nurture them back to a stable healthy state, and give ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The idea that dinosaurs will roam the earth again has fascinated mankind since the first dinosaur fossils were first put together. Pop culture has even glorified this idea in a variety of books and movies made about the topic, such as the famous Jurassic Park trilogy. In science fiction, there are many ideas people have about brining the extinct back to life. Some of these theories have a grain of truth to it, but today, the idea of bringing back a species is no longer science fiction, but will likely be possible in the near future. After many attempts, one surrogate goat mother became pregnant and gave birth. Unfortunately, the babe died in just moments after birth. Making the jump from cloning being impossible to nearly reviving a dead species just seven years later shows proof how quickly this incredible technology is advances. It has now been over a decade since the cloning of the bucardo, and the technology available now would very likely produce a healthy clone. The only question now is, should we? • 89. The Negative Effects Of De-Extinction De–extinction: a scientific breakthrough and a process in which humans can use genetic engineering to bring back a species that was once extinct. Despite how intriguing it is that humans can accomplish this, the act of using de–extinction to bring back different species can be detrimental to the environments that they are introduced into. Humans can control how they create and modify a species that they bring back from extinction, an example being which species they use to replicate another species and the modifications they make for it to be able to thrive. However, once they are let out into an environment, the control lessens and the species can kill off different creatures and bring diseases to others, overall having a negative effect. There is no telling what a species will do if it is brought back from extinction, especially if that particular species died off decades or centuries ago and their habitat is no longer what it once was. There would be a chance that they would be brought back from extinction only to go extinct again. De–extinction should be avoided because there are too many risks such as costs, diseases, and the ideology that any species can come back after going extinct. De–extinction is finally emerging and being more widely spoken about as scientists and engineers plan the process of bringing back the passenger pigeon. However, the Point argument supporting it was better because it explained how reviving these species would not only be beneficial in that area of studies, but in science and the world as a whole. There are many reasons stated for this, including the repairing of Earth and the expansion of human knowledge and capabilities. As stated in the Point argument, de–extinction is a way to undo what humans have done to nature, and a way to prevent it. The argument explains, "[Woolly Mammoth's] return to the north would bring back carbon–fixing grass and reduce greenhouse–gas–releasing tundra" (Point para 3). In addition, "as controversial as all of it is, and possibly because it's controversial, it's going to help drive interest in [species loss], in a way that conservation by itself couldn't do..." Lastly the author writes, "the genome manipulation used in de–extinction research might bring about even more marvels" (Point para 7). One of the "marvels" that could come out of this is human health. If scientists are able to manipulate DNA and essentially life itself, there would be endless possibilities for what they could manipulate in humans, like disease prevention and even physical attributes. It is predicted by Author Elizabeth Kolbert, that a sixth extinction may be underway. The Sixth Extinction is a book in the viewpoint of Kolbert and narrates her travels around the globe while she studies numerous wildlife species. Kolbert claims that ¨Those of us alive today not only are witnessing one of the rarest events in life's history, we are also causing it," (Kolbert, Page 8). Throughout her work, Kolbert claims that numerous species are decreasing in population due to harmful human activities, which could lead to a global disaster. One species that continues to dwindle are amphibians. The book begins with Kolbert's trip to Panama where she discovered amphibians were decreasing at an alarming rate. During her trip, she finds that over 7,000 species of amphibians were becoming extinct worldwide (Kolbert, Page 11). Kolbert's assumption that a sixth extinction is under way proves to be true because there is a continuous decrease of amphibians today. Human beings alone are placing enough strain on animals to leave lasting and harmful effects for years to come. Due to the steadily growing population, individuals are turning untouched pieces of land into developmental projects to benefit humans. However, these sources of land are home to a multitude of species whom are now struggling to survive due to these changes to their habitat. Along with dismantling species environments, some individuals are also engaging in illegal wildlife trade in order to keep up with the growing demand for numerous types of products. In addition, deforestation is another activity humans participate in that negatively impacts animals environments to benefit their own. However, there are also numerous types of environmental activities that affect animals as well. Climate change and different types of pollution are proving to be harmful as well. Overall, unless action is taken to overcome the consequences animals currently face due to the harmful activities caused by humans and environmental factors, species will continue to fall victim to extinction. Dawson talks about multiple broad subjects in his book like how Capitalism is the main source of mass extinction. By doing so, he takes into account the lengthy history of the Homo Sapiens species, their activities and their discoveries and how us, humans, have affected today's biodiversity, and probably the future of our planet Earth. He also offers solutions but are they realistically possible? Today, we no longer face natural risks like asteroids and comets. As Dawson states we now face anthropogenic risks like climate change and biodiversity loss which leads to a change in the earth's ecosystem. First of all, Dawson opens the subject on mass extinction and assures that a sixth extinction will happen (if it did not start already) if capitalism is maintained. Dawson starts his book with a graphic and horrendous description of a dead Satao: "His face was wacked off. Without plants and animals we would not be able to survive. 4)thesis: Species Extinction is a big issue today, though there are a few different viewpoints on how quickly species ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A.sub–point: As stated under the Endangered Species Act, more than 1,300 U.S. plants and animals already have been federally listed as threatened or endangered and protected. That is a lot of species at risk of going extinct, fortunately groups such as these are able to possible avoid that from happening. Though some may never be able to return to the wild if the habitat they live in is completely gone from in the outside world, they would not be able to survive. So preserving habitats for these animals is also a key factor of keeping species from going extinct. B.sub–point: The National Wildlife Federation helps restore and protect endangered species by restoring habitats along with defending the Endangered Species Act, lowing threats to the species, and many other key factors of keeping a species from dying out. Transition: Without the help of the whole world, more and more species will continue to go extinct. Conclusion 1)Summarize points previously stated A.But as I stated by Hubble in my first article, most data is over exaggerated. Though that does not mean that we do not need to take action about the issue though, because it is still an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 137. Cons Of De-Extinction Extinction is defined as: the state or situation that results when something, such as plant or animal species, have died out completely (Merriam–Webster). The World Wildlife Foundation, otherwise known as the WWF, says that experts estimate that the loss of animals is estimated to be between 1,000 and 10,000 times higher than the natural extinction rate. Experts calculate that between 0.01 and 0.1% of all species become extinct each year. Although this may seem like quite low numbers it reality is it quite large. If the lower estimate is correct, then out of the estimated two million species on the planet, then an estimated two–hundred and two thousand species will become extinct each year. If the larger estimate is correct and that there are an estimated 100 million different species on the planet, then that results in ten thousand and one–hundred thousand species who become extinct each year (WWF). Experts say that of all the species that existed on this planet, 99.9% are now extinct (PBS). However, what if they could be brought back? Years ago, species such as the Pyrenean ... This includes scientific knowledge, technological advancement, environmental benefits, justice, and wonder. Scientific knowledge refers to the fact that de–extinction could offer insight into the evolution of species. Technological advancement would occur meaning it would be a huge step forward for genetic engineering. The environmental benefits include the facts that de–extinction could restore and fix threatened or damaged ecosystems. Many people also fell that we owe these animals justice since humans are the reason a vast majority of these animals have gone extinct in the first place. Finally, many would wonder what it would be like to see a species that was previously extinct (Discover ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 141. Mass Extinction Extinction is the end of an organism or group of taxa. Extinctions occur when a species becomes unfit for survival in its natural habitat usually to be replaced by another, better–suited species. An organism becomes ill–suited for survival because its environment is changed or because its relationship to other organisms is altered as stated from Credo Reference. The moment of extinction is generally considered to be the death of the last individual of that particular species. Mass extinctions, however, are rare events that only happen every few million years. Only recently have these events been recorded and scientist have become alarmed at these recent extinctions. Most extinctions aren't even documented and some predict that most of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They believe that a large asteroid was the cause of Cretaceous' mass extinction. A large crater was found in the Caribbean Sea near the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico, which is about 65 million years old. (Campell) A large impact from an asteroid like this would cause global darkness from the amounts of dust sent into the air. This dust would stop photosynthesis for plants which in all would affect every source of live in the area (Thomas). This darkness would also cause the area to cool which could also kill off organisms. Another would be an impact from a comet, such as the comet that exploded above southeastern Siberia in 1908 (Thomas). The last factor is a Supernova explosion, which isn't the case for earth since there is no evidence that this influenced life on earth. The consequences of mass extinctions affect biological diversity greatly. By removing large numbers species, this could reduce thriving and complex communities. These events are random and effect species greatly, permanently removing species with highly advantageous features and change the course of evolution forever. Whenever extinctions occur, a trickledown effect can occur. An example of this could be how a certain plant may go extinct, and a worm eats that plant. That worm would eventually die out because of the food source being gone. A bird would also be affected by this since it can't eat that worm which is his only food source. The fossil record shows that it typically takes 5 to 19 million ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Great Apes Extinction This article captured my attention because extinction is a major problem that occurs around the world with the increase in carelessness of people. great apes are beloved animals that are integral to nature, and the extinction of the great apes can be devastating to the balance of nature. Great apes are animals that are not often thought to be extinct because they are such as well known species of animal, so the fact that four out of six great apes are nearing extinction is a big problem. This article also captured my attention because the title makes a very broad and serious claim. Saying that "four out of six great apes are one step towards extinction" is very serious and makes it seem like the majority of the great ape population will be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There seemed to be a widespread decline in the Eastern Gorilla species, they moved from the Endangered list to the Critically Endangered list. The rapid decline in the species of great apes had to be due to a certain factor. In the investigation, researchers accounted for the loss of great apes, the "population decline was more than 70% in 20 years" and now the population is fewer than 5,000. With this data set, the researches were able to interpret the data and realize a rapid decrease in population. Accounting for the reduction in population is the best way to asses the problem of the nearing extinction. There currently are laws that are in place on the killing and capture of great apes. It is illegal to hunt great apes but the main reason they are declining rapidly is due to hunting. This is also a pattern found in the reduction of population of different animals such as the "once widespread Plains Zebra". The Plains Zebra have been reduced to 24% in the past 14 years and were only found in protected areas. For this reason, researchers were led to believe the majority of the population loss were in non protected areas where the animals were hunted for bushmeat and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 149. The Extinction Of The Florida Everglades any endangered species are located near places with extreme poverty. In this century, over half of the world's wildlife may become extinct. Not long ago, all of the Earth's ecosystem was able to support vast numbers of creatures. Much of the earth's wildlife is now in danger of disappearing because there are no places for them to go. 25% of all mammals are at threat of extinction, as well as two thirds of all birds. The sixth extinction will not come from outer space, but will happen because of humans. China has over come the United States in food consumption. This could prove to be a very big problem is there's over 1 billion people that live in China. The farmers in China have increased the livestock had from 100 million, to over 400 million. This has devastated the environment very much. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This causes the desertification and it also slows down progress for finding areas that can be medicine for certain diseases. Grasslands act as a big sponge, as they are able to absorb the rain that falls throughout the grassland. Because of this, there's fertile land, and abundance of nutrients for migrating wildlife. In south Africa, companies have put non–native trees in the grassland which is taking away nutrients from the area. In the Florida Everglades, they're only about 80 Florida Panthers left. The big problem that I notice is that we are able to make plenty of land for agriculture but not for people. In only three years, farmers in Zambia have created food security for 16,000 farmers. • 153. Extinction Of Dinosaurs Extinction The extinction of dinosaurs could have been caused by many different things. One main reason that is thought around the world is that dinosaurs went extinct because an asteroid fell onto earth at speeds that are too fast for the human mind to even imagine. This idea was thought when and asteroid crater was found near mexico. Also to support the facts many scientist found traces of rare metal onto the earth's surface. This metal is not very common here but is really common in outer space. Today we will be looking at why these huge creatures died of the face of the planet in just a matter of months. One reason, these greatebeastes were exterminated was that they alter the asteroid hit the ground a huge ball of dust and debris was sent into the earth. This dust covered the earth in just a matter of hours. This was crucial to their extinction because the sun was blocked plants did not receive and sun light and herbivorous ( plant eating animals) could not get any food from the plants because most of the plants died. This was just one of the first reasons that the dinosaur race was wiped of this earth. You may ask how big the asteroid had to be, well put it into perspective the asteroid was about the size of 110 empire state buildings and had the weight of 211,000 empire states buildings put together. This asteroid was the biggest asteroid to ever hit earth that we know of. This big of a hit throw 70 billion tons of soot out of the earth and that dust polluted the skies. If ...
