How Chickens Are Factory Farmed Is Inhumane
The most arguably abused animal in the world is the chicken. The common commercial way of how
chickens are factory farmed is inhumane to the animals, because of the way the chickens are treated.
Chickens are given insufficient living conditions in areas that make it impossible for them to live
enjoyable lives, as well as the amount of birds contained in the buildings. The sake of the fowls'
health and growth is cruelty altered, as chemicals and mutations are done to the them throughout
their time on the farms. A chicken that is hatched for the use of a factory farm will not have the same
basic quality of life of a chicken that is turned out often; the only thing factory farmed chickens get
in life is depression and frustration. The factory farms is only seen from a profit stand point with out
the chickens' well being kept in mind. Where the animals are kept on the factory farms this forces
the animals to suffer in unbearable conditions. Often the barns are truly sheds with no windows; this
leads to no fresh air or sun light. The amount of animals in the building are ... Show more content on

Normal chickens could not live is such unhealthy circumstances, therefore to make sure the
chickens' death toll is kept lower the animals' immune systems are pumped full of antibiotics. The
growth of the birds are forced to be fast forwarded at an accelerated pace; this is preformed by using
genetic mutations, which leads to health issues. Due to the mutations and chemicals given to cause
increase growth often major organs, such as the heart and lungs, can not handle the extra weight and
fail; another issue is the chickens' legs can not support the excess weight and the animals are not
able to reach the water nozzle to hydrate. The side effects and problems caused by drugs and
mutations gave to the commercial raised fowls should regarded as

Charles Darwin 's Theory Of The Creation Of Species
Seth Justus
English 2
Mr. Johnson
2/16/15
Project Eagle Final Paper: Charles Darwin Charles Darwin has become Christianity's greatest
enemy with his theories of the creation of species and has caused people to turn their backs on faith
and look to science to be their religion. The way in which Darwin describes the creation of species
in The Origin of Species does not agree with how species are created in Christian teachings. Charles
Darwin's theories have impacted so many different aspects of life from what we teach our children
in school to our chosen faith.
Charles Darwin explains his theories on how different species are created in The Origin of Species.
Darwin tells us that different species are created for a few different reasons. Darwin tells us that
specie's "struggle for existence" plays a major part in the creation of species. The "struggle for
existence" is if a variation is helpful then it will probably reappear in future generations, but if it is
unhelpful the species will have a harder time surviving and then reproducing. When offspring that
have these helpful variations continuously reproduce this is known as Natural selection, nature is
selecting the useful variations and getting rid of the non–helpful ones.
The "struggle for existence" is the accumulation of variations until a new species is created, but how
do variations occur? Darwin explains that scientist thought that there are variations in species
because of environmental reasons like climate,

Knight As A Hero : Artemis Fowl The Last Knight
Artemis Fowl The Last Guardian is the last book of the Artemis Fowl series which was written by
Eoin Colfer. The book is about a boy genius, Artemis Fowl. Who, is the head of a criminal empire.
Artemis works with a secret civilization of magical creatures who have been hiding underground for
centuries. An enemy named Opal Koboi who Artemis thought was defeated attempts a daring escape
from jail. This is why I believe Artemis is a hero.
To stop this Artemis Fowl teams up with his friends holy, Butler, Foaly, Mulch, and Juliet. Artemis
Fowl II (fore mentioned as just Artemis Fowl) is the main character in the book He is a boy genius
and head a criminal empire. He is five feet five inches, he has black hair, is very pale, and he almost
always wears a suit. Holy is the first female captain in LEPRECON or L.E.P. for short which the
fairies police. Holy is three feet tall, is 80 years old, and is a pixie (Fairies live much longer than
humans in the book). Butler is Artemis Fowl's bodyguard, servant, and friend. Butler is part of the
butler family which has served as the bodyguards of the fowls for generations (Butlers uncle was the
bodyguard of Artemis's father) Butler knows several forms of martial arts. Foaly like Holly works
for the L.E.P. he is the L.E.P.'s technical consultant. He is a centaur, he has brown hair, golden eyes,
and is a male. Mulch Diggums is a former thief who has been arrested many times but now helps the
LEP. He has brown eyes, is a kleptomaniac, and is a

Rock Collection Narrative
I'm glad you, too, enjoyed my story about my rock collection. I'm gearing up for the Ravencon
convention this weekend (if you happen to be there this weekend, look me up).
I enjoy storytelling and most recently, I was advised by one of my mentors to get out of my bubble–
and that I did. And this time, while visiting with friends, I met their new family dog and was blessed
to hold one of their new yellow chicks.
For a moment, I was transported back to my grandmother's house in Small Town, Tennessee. I could
smell the fresh Earth and hear all of the different livestock, fowl and outside dogs that guarded the
animals, just as they did the house, from any predators. I recalled being a little girl dancing like no

Summary Of Reaping By Arna Bontemps
In "A Black Man Talks of Reaping" by Arna Bontemps is about a poor black slave farmer that is
constantly planting seeds and is in fear because of the white people. Since this was the time of
slavery this took place around the 1800s. This poem talks about how this man planted so much that
he could plant seeds from Canada and Mexico and that he can only bring or show what he had in his
hands. This poem could also be an allusion to the bible (327), "Whatsoever a man soweth, that shall
he also reap"(Galatians 6:7). This poem has figurative language and literal sound devices in each
stanza. For example end rhymes, imagery, and metaphors. In all three stanzas Bontemps uses End
rhymes. For example, in the first stanza: I have sown beside all waters in my day. I planted deep,
within my heart the fear That wind or fowl would take the grain away. I planted safe against this
stark lean year. He uses end rhymes to make it have more of a rhythm. To make it sound like a
lyrical song and give pleasure. In the first stanza the main in the poem is talking about how he has
been planted seeds throughout his entire life and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The poem explains how he was hiding his fear into his heart. He said, "I'll plant deep, within my
heart the fear"(Bontemps). He uses this so that the reader can have a better understanding or
emotion and tone of what the man has been going through and that he had to hide away all his fear
from the men. The poem mentions how the the wind or fowl takes the grains away, this is also
imagery, giving us a picture of how the wind is evil, or some type of creature that takes the grain
away. He also mentioned how he scattered seeds so much that he could make it to Canada and
Mexico and that even with all the hard work, all he could show was, what was in his hands. This
would also be called a hyperbole, because for how he explained that he made rows from Canada to
mexico.. He uses this to exaggerate how much this man has been

Water Fowl Hunting Research Paper
Across the United States of America, water fowl hunting is one of the most popular hunting sports
that occurs every year during the autumn and winter seasons. Hunters spread out over wide range of
areas across the United States to take a shot at geese, ducks, and other well–known game birds.
Water fowl hunting can be done in crop fields or on a river. When a shot goes up over half the shots
taken pellets are falling towards a field or wet land area. Concerns have been made and laws and
regulations against Lead Shots are being adjusted. The new laws and regulations are requiring water
fowl hunters who use traditional lead shot ammunition are now to use steel shots when water fowl
hunting. (White)
Lead Ammunition has been the traditional form of ammunition for over many decades now. Many
hunters have been using lead ammunition since the early 1960's. Ammunition manufactures started
creating shot gun shells that are made of red plastic and contain over a minimum of twenty or more
lead pellets in each shell. Some shells very in different sizes and contain different amounts of lead
pellets for different hunting uses. These shells were made to have a high killing power when hunting
waterfowl. Such a tiny lead pellet has become a very big ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Steel shot ammunition pellets weigh less than a steel pellet does. They have a less kill power than a
lead pellet. They come in the same shot gun shells as lead does but they have more pellets inside
giving them a stronger force. Just like the lead pellet shells they vary in different shell sizes for
different hunting uses. Steel shells give a cleaner shot that will help the game bird bleed more freely
without getting the pellet stuck inside its body. The most important part about this substitution is the
steel pellets are eliminating lead poisoning from

First Chapter Of The Bible: The Big Bang Theory
There are many theories associated the the creation of the Earth. Some of these are well known,
such as the Big Bang Theory, the theory that the universe created itself. Another theory is that the
universe was never created, it just always existed. One of the most popular theories is that God
created the heavens and the Earth, and this is all explained in the first chapter of the Bible. This
theory is commonly referred to as creationism, the religious belief that the universe and life
originated "from specific acts of divine creation." On the very first page of the Bible, the journey
begins, "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth" (Genesis 1:1). From this text from
the Bible, it is told that the very first thing God did ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Bible proclaims, "And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind,
cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so" (Genesis 1:24). Later
it also explains, "And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have
dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the
earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth" (Genesis 1:26). From this part of
the text it can be seen that God has created, along with all other animals that would reside on dry
land, humans. He creates man in his image, and makes them have power over all of the other
animals on the earth. The two first humans were named Adam and Eve, and they reproduced to form
everyone who is on this earth today, along with all of the other animals. Also, this text explains, "Let
us make man in our image, after our likeness..." (Genesis 26). When God says the word our in this
piece of the text, this could mean that God was not creating the universe by himself. This could
mean there could have been angels present, but there are many different theories on this. God saw
that this was all very good, and that concluded day

the different modes of documentaries, and the ethical issues that may arise when making a
documentary. Nichols talks about how there isn't a set definition for a documentary, but how there
are many different modes of documentary's. We can see examples of these things in the two short
documentaries that we viewed in class. James Clauer's Aluminum Fowl and Cooper's Superman are
two documentaries' that use these different modes of documentary filmmaking to inform the viewers
of their subjects. Both documentaries use an observational mode in telling their stories, by letting

Vegucated: The Five Types Of Vegetarianism
What is a vegetarian? What is a vegan? What is the difference between the two? Is it really that
healthy to become one? Should I become one? Why should I become one? These are some of the
questions that appeared in my mind after watching the documentary film, Vegucated. I became more
curious about these things so I did some research about Vegetarianism and found out that there are
several types of Vegetarianism. I found a website called vegetarian–nation.com which explains the
types of vegetarianism. I thought that vegetarians and vegans is the same thing but I was proven
wrong by the article that I found in the website.
What are the types of vegetarianism? Well, there are several levels of vegetarianism. The first one is
vegan. While a vegan ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the article, veganism also means respect for life. Studies by behavior experts of
animals living in–situ as opposed to ex–situ "have wide range of behaviors and experience
emotional states that were previously thought to be exclusively human". Vegans also don't support
cosmetic or other companies that have commissioned or conducted test on animals.
The documentary made me more compassionate about animal's life even though I am not sure if I
can become a vegan. It changed my perspective about animals and life. If I would be a vegan, I
would do it for the sake of the animals. I used to think that we really need to eat animals to survive
but after watching the film, I realize that we don't have to eat them. We can eat a plant–based food.

Malleefowl Research Paper
The Malleefowl is a heavily–built Australian bird that lives on the ground. Relatively, it is about the
size of a chicken. Its scientific name, Leipoa ocellata, which belongs to the Megapode family. The
Malleefowl is a heavy–bodied, ground–feeding, egg–incubating vertebrae. The two certain
characteristics that make the Malleefowl different from most birds is that they construct large
nesting mounds and that the parents do not care for their chicks after they are born. Being the only
living species of the genus Leipoa, it is a bird of unique qualities, although the Giant Malleefowl
(which is now extinct) was a close relative.
The Malleefowl is found nationally, especially in the states of Victoria, New South Wales, South
Australia and Western Australia. They are located in these areas due to the climate and environment

critically endangered in the Northern Territory and likely to become extinct in Western Australia.
This is due to the loss of habitat and the foxes hunting the Malleefowl for food.
There is no information on disease in wild Malleefowl populations although it is prone to many

Poultry Farmers In America

have caused hundreds of chicken farmers across the country to struggle financially and emotionally.
You need to change the harsh criteria you put on the farmers, the process by which you decide
which farms get bonuses and pay cuts, and you need to increase the wages these farmers receive in

The Use Of Egg In The Great Gatsby
Kumamoto analyzes the use of egg and fowl references throughout the novel and ties it back to
Fitzgerald's obsession with "The Feast of Trimalchio" in The Satyricon in which eggs represent
wealth, popularity, and prosperity. Fitzgerald uses this as inspiration and links parties and food to
eggs to show the social gap that exists between East and West Egg people. Also, at the end of the
novel, Fitzgerald has Tom and Daisy feasting on cold chicken to play on the coward definition of the
word "chicken" and illustrate the low levels higher class people stoop to in order to see the defeat of
others. Overall, Kumamoto concludes that the use of egg and fowl analogies in The Great Gatsby is
for Fitzgerald to shine a light on the bitter side of riches

Differences Between Domesticated And Wild Animals
There are notable differences between domesticated and wild animals. They are more obvious when
compared between different breeds of the same species. For most domesticated species, the
variations within an organism are usually descended from a single wild species. Variation arises
from natural selection, and refers to variation both within and between species. Darwin did not
believe that all domesticated species arises from a common wild ancestor, however, modern genetics
disproves this.
Research shows that all domesticated dogs arise from their wild ancestor, the wolves. Similar trends
are found in other domesticated animals like cats, horses, cows, and birds. Specifically, I will be
analyzing the trends in domestication of fowl and poultry. Fowl includes two orders of birds:
landfowl (chicken, quail, pheasant) and waterfowl (duck, goose, swan). Fowl typically refers to wild
birds. Poultry indicates birds that are domesticated and raised for meat or eggs. By analyzing the
behavior, evolution species variation, and domestication of birds, we can determine the traits
selected for different species. Through domestication, many breeds of birds have evolved with
alterations that could be seen as adaptations to the environment.
Behavior of Wild Fowl It is widely known that the domestication of an organism involves numerous
changes: genetically, physically, socially, mentally. An interesting occurrence to note is reduction in
brain size from wild to domestic animals. As

Silkie Chicken Research Paper
A Silkie chicken is distinct from other breeds of domestic fowl. This fuzzy bird looks unlike most
other poultry, sporting fur like feathers, a fifth toe, black internal tissue, and feathered feet. During
the thirteenth century they were referred to as the Wooly Hen (Percy, 2006). A Silkie's feathers
appear fur–like because they lack barbs which would normally hold the strands together. Each
strand stands free and is two to three inches long. However, they function as normal feathers do in
any other breed. These distinct feathers give the bird a soft, downy, "silky" like appearance (The
American Silkie Bantam Club, 2012).

Fowl Symbolism Used in Poetry Essay
Symbolism had a large impact on the writers of the nineteen century similar to the effect it places in
literature today. Symbolism is explained in these terms, "Symbolism can take different forms.
Generally, it is an object representing another to give it an entirely different meaning much deeper
and more significant."(Batova) The more significant meaning is often overlooked upon first
inspection but when read again a new understanding can be developed. One symbol often used in
poetry during this gothic time period of the nineteenth was the use of a bird as a type of omen. The

However, the joy of the Albatross was shot lived as he was shot by the narrator and then the true
trials of the poem began. The pure white and playful nature of the Albatross create a feeling that the
bird came only bring good lest it should be harmed. A stark contrast to this view comes in Poe's
poem The Raven which depicts a cold dreary night and the narrator alone fighting the sorrows of
their life. The sleek black of the raven's body automatically creates an evil feeling behind the
presence of the bird. "black is considered a negative color; In many western traditions raven
represents darkness, destructiveness and evil. They are sometimes associated with deities of evil and
of death. Both witches and the Devil were said to be able to take the shape of a raven." (Black) Thus
the very appearance of the raven presents and eerie feeling to the poem and makes the reader
question the order of events that are to follow. "Then, upon the velvet sinking, I betook myself to
linking Fancy unto fancy, thinking what this ominous bird of yore – What this grim, ungainly,
ghastly, gaunt, and ominous bird of yore Meant in croaking "Nevermore."(The Raven Lines 69–72)
As the image of the Raven is described the reader begins to feel more and more unsettled by the
presence of the bid and what it could possibly symbolize. Because each reader is different the poems

One of The Lightning Thief's characteristics is that it re–imagined the world as a part of a never–

is told from the first person point of view, narrated by Percy Jackson, whereas, Artemis Fowl is
written in third person perspective. The two stories follow the titular characters, both merely twelve
years old in the beginning. Unlike other books, the characters age and develop as the series moves
on. Percy, though he fails at school due to his ADHD and dyslexia, is courageous, righteous, a
natural leader, loyal to a fault, and a good fighter. Artemis, on the other hand, is cold, ruthless, smug,
deathly pale complete with a vampire smile. However, at the same time, he is quite possibly the
most intelligent person on the world, his strategies always seem to work out somehow. You don't

Florence Gith Joyner Analysis
Sometime in the summer, a silver–bearded prophet came to my house. He discerned pain here, he
said, staring into my mother's eyes. The prophet held her hands and spoke softly until she told him
about her nightmares, about how she was a Christian woman but lived in pain and slept without
peace. Strolling into the living room, the prophet laid a stack of cards across the coffee table. These
intuited the sources and meanings of dreams, he said as we sat on the couch. He arranged the cards
in a way that made my mother cry. For Satan roamed free through the house, the cards showed,
through the witchcraft in the books.
We didn't read Harry Potter, Mom replied.
But there's where so many Christians were fooled, the prophet said. I remember leaning ... Show

I forgot about the books I had hidden. Every day, I did my homework mechanically. I went to bed on
time. Then, I read every book I had left three times or more. I memorized "The Hollow Men" before
I knew what it meant. I can still recite the biography of Florence Griffith Joyner. I still know every
short story written and illustrated by Joni Eareckson Tada.
When I finally cleaned my room, I found Heir Apparent. I stared at it for a while, in its hiding spot. I
held it to my chest and smelled the pages. I decided to relocate it to my bed so I could read it later
that night, which is when I found the two Artemis Fowl books. I read all three, cover to cover,
overnight. Then, I returned them to their hiding places. I did this at least once a week until my
mother forgot what those books were about, and then I placed them in the science section of my
library. My mother says she has not had a nightmare since.
The prophet died the year that I went to college. After that, my mother forgot why she, as she

Character Versus Self Vs. Self
Imagine you 're left with a decision. Which flavour ice cream should you eat? Chocolate, your
chocolate–half says. Because it melts in your mouth. But then your vanilla–half retaliates with No,
vanilla. It 's a lot sweeter than chocolate. Besides, you haven 't had vanilla in a while. Have you ever
faced a choice like this? Hard to decide, and when you do decide there 's always the thought of what
would 've happened if you 'd have chosen the other choice? Books with character versus self face
these sorts of problems a lot. Especially when they 're choosing their ice cream flavours. Character
versus self is when a character fights itself, usually over decisions or judgement. Sometimes it is
about forcing itself to do something, like to do ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But around the end of the book, her mental problems are too much for her, so she goes insane, if
only for a little while. Yes, Mockingjay is quite the ride.
In the fantasy–adventure series Artemis Fowl, you wouldn 't really notice any character versus self.
Sure, it was there every now and then... or was it? If you look closely, you can notice how much
character versus self Artemis Fowl Jr goes through, and how vividly it affects the storyline.
Basically, what's happened is that Artemis Fowl II, a criminal mastermind, has discovered that
fairies do indeed exist. Long story Short, Holly Short, a female LEP (Lower Elements Police)
soldier, and the rest of the fairy population accept him, but only after making a few friends, making
a few enemies, and getting a few friends killed. Character versus self is introduced as Artemis 's
decision. This decision is seen over the whole series. At the start, he would be described as 'A
criminal mastermind, very rich, very smart, but very reclusive. And only twelve.' By the end, he
would be described as 'A friend, still rich and smart, but not that much of a criminal. A good person.'
Have you figured out his decision yet? It's whether he should use his resources for criminal activity,
like his father did (but is not doing now), or whether he should use his powers for good. It is not

Infectious Diseases And Its Effects On The Health Of Chickens
Introduction
This written report will cover both infectious and non–infectious diseases and their effects on the
health of chickens. Causes of each disease will be explained along with symptoms and clinical signs
that may occur during the onset of disease. This report will explain the treatment and prevention for
the diseases chosen and any management strategies in place to control the disease.
Infectious Diseases
Newcastle Disease Virus (NDV) (Avian pneumoencephalitis)
Newcastle Disease Virus is an infectious disease of poultry and fowl caused by the virus,
'Paramyxovirus' serotype 1 (Foster and Smith, 2017a); (Alexander, 2000). The severity of this virus
depends on the susceptibility of the host and how virulent the virus is. Chickens ... Show more

Treatment, Prevention and Control
There is currently no treatment for Newcastle Disease Virus, however in some cases hyper–immune
serum injections have been used on exposed birds that are not showing symptoms (Foster and
Smith, 2017a) and antibiotics are occasionally given to prevent secondary infections (Jacob, 2015a).
Due to NDV being highly contagious and severe it is classed as a notifiable disease, therefore any
bird showing symptoms of this disease must be reported to the Animal and Plant Health Agency
where action will be taken to prevent the disease from spreading (DEFRA, 2014b).
Vaccinations can be administered to protect birds against clinical signs and decrease the risks of
contracting the virus (CFSPH, 2016). Strict biosecurity practices and correct husbandry are also
vital in the prevention of NDV, this includes the isolation of any outbreaks, disposal of any infected
carcasses, thorough cleaning and disinfection (Beautyofbirds, 2017); (DEFRA, 2014a).
Fowl Cholera (Avian Pasteurellosis)
Fowl cholera is a contagious bacterial disease seen in captive and wild fowls caused by 'Pasteurella
multocida' to which domestic poultry; such as chickens, are particularly susceptible (West, 1976b);
(Christensen, 2016) causing high morbidity and mortality and bacteraemia (OIE, 2016).
Overcrowding, climate and stress are a few known environmental factors said to have an effect the

Greed In Abigail's '
Introduction The cause of nearly all of humanity's conflicts and wrongdoings, from wars over land,
to massacres, to robberies can be traced back to one human vice: greed. This inherent hunger for
property, power, or wealth, can completely take over a person's life and lead to conflict and misery.
However, unlike physical hunger, which can be easily satisfied, greed is often intensified, not
mitigated by the attainment of what one desires. This self–perpetuating nature of greed indicates that
the vice is not actually caused by the need for something, as hunger is, but rather the belief that one
deserves some object or quality more than everyone else. Thus a person's greed can only be satisfied
once that person has all of what he or she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This shows that compassion can not only overcome greed for a specific commodity, but is capable
of conquering one's overall selfishness. Early on in the book, it is clear that Artemis's family is
extremely important to him. He worries about his sick mother and is constantly looking for news
about his missing father. This sympathy also extends to Butler and Juliet, who although not direct
members of the family, help to fill the role that Artemis's missing and insane parents cannot. The
book makes this clear in the statement, "Artemis was the closest thing Butler had to a friend, and
Butler was the closest Artemis had to a father" (Colfer 16). The empathy Artemis feels for these four
family members: his mother, his father, Butler, and Juliet, begins to weaken his greed very early on
in his plot. This occurs as soon as he sees the fairy he is about to kidnap. He thinks, "Artemis saw
the pain in the creature's eyes as the hollow hypodermic plunged into her body. And for a moment
he experienced misgivings. A female. He hadn't expected that. A female, like Juliet, or Mother. Then
the moment passed and he was himself again" (Colfer 76). In this instant, Artemis recognizes the
fairy's pain only because of her similarity to his family. His compassion for his mother and Juliet
serve as a gateway for empathy and

Artemis Fowl Chapter Summary
The book that I am going to write about is called Artemis Fowl, and it s an action packed book.
Artemis Fowl is by Eoin Colfer and it is a Fantasy and action adventure book with 277 pages. The
setting of this book is in Ireland Haven and the Fowl estate, but the action happens in the Fowl
estate. In this story there are a lot of moods some are mysterious, serious, and sometimes funny.
There were a lot of characters, but the ones that I found most interesting are these. Holly Short, she
is the protagonist in this story and she is the leader of the LEP soldiers. Artemis Fowl the II is the
anti hero of the story like Deadpool. He is also very rich and very intelligent, however he is only 12
years old. Foaly, he is the technological person for the LEP, and he hacks everything for when they
are in the missions. Mulch Diggums is a criminal and he has been arrested a lot of times and now he
is working with the LEP to steal from the mud people. Butler, he is the personal bodyguard/butler
for Artemis Fowl the II. Julius Root is the commander for the LEP. Most of the characters are not
believable, but the ones that are believable are Artemis and Butler because they refer to them as mud
people and that means human. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

example, is that he can hack and I can also hack but not that advanced like him. In this book I could

Northern Fowl Mite Research Paper
Northern Fowl Mites The Northern fowl mite (Ornithonyssus sylviarum) is the most common
external parasite found on poultry. As the Northern fowl mite feeds on blood if poultry have heavy
infestations it can cause anemia. The mite's development from egg to egg–laying adult takes about
one week under optimum conditions (cool months are more favorable than warm months). While
adult mites do not lay a large number of eggs, populations can increase rapidly on a susceptible bird
and may exceed 20,000 mites in only a few weeks. Clinical signs of infestation include decreased
egg production, decreased growth rate, and decreased feed consumption. Furthermore, Northern
fowl mites can bite humans which will lead to itching and irritation of the skin. ... Show more

Organic insecticides derived from chrysantheniums will also work in controlling Northern fowl
mites. The use of food–grade diatomaceous earth (DE) in dust baths may also be used as a control
method as it is an abrasive and will remove the oily or waxy cuticle layer on the outside of a mite,
killing the mite. Scaly–Leg Mites The Scaly–leg mite (Knemidokoptes mutans) is smaller than the
northern fowl mite and live under the scales on birds' legs and feet versus the vent of the bird. They
tunnel in the upper layers of skin where they lay their eggs. Signs of infestation include the legs of
an infected bird becoming thick and crusty. In severe cases the blood supply to the toes may be lost,
and the bird may lose toes. Treatment: An effective insecticide for this mite is Ivermectin. Non–
insecticide methods for treating infestation include coating the entire leg with petroleum jelly or
dipping the legs in linseed oil. This will suffocate the mites while also moisturizing the scales.
Although scaly–leg mites prefer to live on birds the entire poultry house needs to be treated as they
can survive off the bird as

Some of the steps you want to start with are, preheating the oven to 400 degrees and making sure
you have all the ingredients ready. Step 1, place the guinea hen in an iron skill large enough for it to
fit. The ingredients you will need are, 4 teaspoons olive oil, ¾ teaspoons sea salt, ½ teaspoon ground
black pepper, 2 tablespoons fresh thyme leaves, 3 cloves garlic with skin left on and lightly crushed,
and 1 cup chicken broth. Using your hands, rub 2 teaspoons of the olive all over the bird, inside and
out. Season again all over with salt and pepper. Sprinkle with thyme leaves and scatter the garlic
cloves around the pan. Step 2, place in the oven and roast fifthteen minutes. Dizzle with the
remaining olive oil and roast, basting every ten minutes with a pan dripping, until a thermometer
inserted in the thickest part of the thigh reads 160 degrees; this should take about 40 to 50 minutes.
Step 3, remove the hen from the oven and transfer to a cutting borad. Drain excess fat (leaving
some) from the pan and place over medium–high heat. Pour in the chicken broth. Using a wooden
spoon, scrape up the pan drippings and bring to a boil. Reduce until the sauce is syrupy. Add salt and
pepper to taste. Cut the hen into 6 pieces and pour the juices from the cutting board back into the
sauce. Serve on a platter and pass the sauce with a big spoon.
I feel that the guinea fowl is a very special type of wild bird. The guinea fowl are a better choice
when choosing food to eat. Since they have somewhat more protein and there eggs are richer. The
guinea fowl can be a great investment for farms. It will eat any insects and protect the production
and sustainability of the crops that the farmers

Examples Of Foils In Macbeth
There are no character in the play Macbeth that foils Macbeth. If someone is to go deep enough into
the literature of Macbeth and truly analyze the intent Shakespeare had while writing. In many ways
the relationship between Macbeth and Lady Macbeth can be analyzed to be a foil. Lady Macbeth in
the play seems to be fearless and ambitious while Macbeth seems to cower and flee from his issues.
When compared directly to his own wife, he seems to be weak and unmanly even compared to a
woman. The witches are written to seem evil and corrupt, yet they bring the downfall of Macbeth.
That just deepens the "fair is fowl and fowl is fair" theme that has been taken on by the narrative.
Malcom and Macbeth's attitudes appear to reverse from the beginning

1. Summary – The book Artemis Fowl so far has explored the life of the young boy Artemis Fowl
the second, and his quest to restore his family to the glory it once had. Artemis plans on doing this
by the means of fairies. He learned of their possession of gold, which lead him to kidnap a fairy with
the intention of making a profit.
Artemis Fowl the second, a twelve year old genius, is the protagonist of the story. He is a pale boy
who is gifted with computers, and he spends most of his time indoors. Though he does leave from
the haven of his family manor, Artemis dislikes being in the sun. Artemis' father is absent in

2. Quote Analysis – "Even as the words came out, Artemis felt guilty. These mind games were

Advertising's Fifteen Basic Appeals Jim Fowls Analysis
In the article, "Advertising's Fifteen Basic Appeals"(1982), Jim Fowls, a professor at the University
Of Houston, discusses the different ways advertisers are reaching people on a daily basis. He claims
that advertisers main goal is to appeal to the audience's motives and desires, aiming to make the ad
as memorable as possible. Every person has a need that he wishes to satisfy, if the advertisement
successfully calls this need "then the persons can be hooked"(Fowls, p. 275). Fowls introduces a list
created by the psychologist Henry Murray from Harvard University of 15 human needs that
advertisement can appeal to. Murray's classification of needs is a useful tool to understand the
effectiveness of an advertisement. The way an advertisement ... Show more content on

attain a high standard"(Fowls, p. 282), the advertisers are showing how Lebron James wipes off his
sweat, a symbol of hard work. They are trying to convey that Lebron James achieved his success by
drive, determination, and hard work. The second need being appealed to is the need to dominate.
The image brings out Lebron James muscles and depicts him as a big and strong figure. The viewers
then associate Nike's products with power. The third need that is being appealed to is the need for
affiliation. By choosing Labron Jeames as their presenter, Nike targeted all Cleveland Cavaliers

The Harmful Effects of Advertising on Society
In today's society many people see advertising as harmful in many different ways. With today's
society image is everything, and advertising uses this to their advantage. Advertising uses this as a
way to make insecure people buy products they do not need. Many advertisements that are seen
today on television, billboards, newspaper, and magazines are indeed harmful to our eyes and brain.
Many of them make people feel like crap, that you don't have this car or that house or that body.
Advertising is harmful to society because of its limitations on women, it's fostering of insecurity,
and its promotion of materialism/consumerism. Advertisement is harmful to society because it limits

When a company is going into an unstable market their chances of successes are slim. Jib Fowls
says "...Create ads more and more in the image of the audience motives and desires" (Fowls 540).
This means that when creating an advertisement the goal is not to offend people it's to inspire them
to do more. Inside of advertisement people take it the wrong way then what the creator of it was
going for. Advertising is a way to communicate with the potential customer, but is bad for society.
Advertising is bad for society because it makes people think less of themselves. When kilbourne
says "There is no doubt that flagrant sexism and sex role stereotypes abound in all forms of the
media" (Kilbourne 478). This meaning that the way the media advertises is a reason for eating

something to trick someone into buy a product that is not needed. Having people being tricked into
buying products that are not need is bad for society. Some people say advertising is good because it
helps shape the market, but advertising is harmful to society because of it set restrictions on women.

Comparing Artemis Fowl And Eoin Colfer
Compare the Protagonist/Antagonist with any character, already studied or from a book, film, etc.
The main protagonist of Airman, Conor Broekhart, is very comparable with a lot of male, teenage
characters in books, films, and even some of the characters that are from some short stories that we
have read in our last unit. Conor is even comparable to the main protagonist from Artemis Fowl, a
more famous book and series by the author of this book, Eoin Colfer. The character from this book
is, unsurprisingly, named Artemis Fowl.
While Conor is described to have blond hair and be tall for his age, Artemis is illustrated with raven
black hair and is short for his age. However, they both have very pale skin. Eoin even goes to say
that "he was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

making a kite that glided him and Princess Isabella to safety from the burning castle. This awesome
feat earned him knighthood, making him Sir Conor Broekhart at the age of 10.
Conor changes a lot through the course of the first quarter of Airman. He goes from a small baby to
an intelligent young man. Artemis also changes throughout the series. In the beginning, Artemis is
more centered on his criminal schemes, but by the last book, The Last Guardian, Fowl realizes that
his family and friends are a lot more important.
Discuss the plot with a focus on current events in the media. The plot in the book, Airman, can be
compared to the recent election that happened in America. In my opinion, Hugo Bonvilain, the
antagonist of the story, is a lot like Donald Trump in many ways. One of Trump's slogans had to do
with "making America great again". Hugo Bonvilain, also wanted to make the Saltee Islands like
they used to be. Both of them miss that the reason things aren't the same as they were before is
because the society has improved through time in the time that Airman takes place, or even right

Use of Opinions, Voices, and Actions in Maria Concepcion
"María Concepción did not weep when Juan left her; and when the baby was born, and died within

to develop María Concepción as a round and dynamic character. These methods included the
discussion of María's actions, her speech, and by telling what other characters think about María. As
a round character María Concepción expressed contradictory attitudes, and diverse personality traits.

"Knowing all the events of that unhappy day, [María Concepción] was not in yielding mood, and
refused to be beaten [by Juan]. She did not scream nor implore; she stood her ground and resisted;
she even struck at him" (Porter 147). In another situation María Concepción turned against Juan
with anger and rage for his affair with María Rosa. "'God's name' said Juan frozen to the marrow,
'here I am facing my death!' For the long knife [María Concepción] wore habitually at her belt was

María Concepción transformation in personality is made clear through her thoughts and speech. In

Compare And Contrast Still Life With Game Fowl
Beginning in 17th century Italy, the Baroque era is notorious for its exaggeration of movement, and
detail meant to convey excitement and tension. Influenced by the Counter Reformation, art began to
impart religious themes with detail, particularly towards emotion and drama meant to convince
people that Catholicism remained legitimate. One such artist in this movement was Juan Sánchez
Cotán, a Spanish Carthusian Monk. Although the bulk of his work comprises religious scenes, he is
famous for his work in still life. Another artist specializing in this genre, Clara Peeters, pioneered
the way for other Flemish still life artists. While neither conveyed drama, both exhibited
competence in creating beautiful and realistic still life paintings. Still Life with Game Fowl contains
painterly detail in the animals, fruit, and vegetables. From the left, one notices quince and cabbage
suspended next to game birds like mallard and quail. Employing dark colors, the background
deliberately seems obscured drawing attention to the foreground. While there appears to be no
identifiable setting, the surroundings suggest a shop display or kitchen window. At the bottom, a ...

How Chickens Are Factory Farmed Is Inhumane

  • 1. How Chickens Are Factory Farmed Is Inhumane The most arguably abused animal in the world is the chicken. The common commercial way of how chickens are factory farmed is inhumane to the animals, because of the way the chickens are treated. Chickens are given insufficient living conditions in areas that make it impossible for them to live enjoyable lives, as well as the amount of birds contained in the buildings. The sake of the fowls' health and growth is cruelty altered, as chemicals and mutations are done to the them throughout their time on the farms. A chicken that is hatched for the use of a factory farm will not have the same basic quality of life of a chicken that is turned out often; the only thing factory farmed chickens get in life is depression and frustration. The factory farms is only seen from a profit stand point with out the chickens' well being kept in mind. Where the animals are kept on the factory farms this forces the animals to suffer in unbearable conditions. Often the barns are truly sheds with no windows; this leads to no fresh air or sun light. The amount of animals in the building are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Normal chickens could not live is such unhealthy circumstances, therefore to make sure the chickens' death toll is kept lower the animals' immune systems are pumped full of antibiotics. The growth of the birds are forced to be fast forwarded at an accelerated pace; this is preformed by using genetic mutations, which leads to health issues. Due to the mutations and chemicals given to cause increase growth often major organs, such as the heart and lungs, can not handle the extra weight and fail; another issue is the chickens' legs can not support the excess weight and the animals are not able to reach the water nozzle to hydrate. The side effects and problems caused by drugs and mutations gave to the commercial raised fowls should regarded as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Charles Darwin 's Theory Of The Creation Of Species Seth Justus English 2 Mr. Johnson 2/16/15 Project Eagle Final Paper: Charles Darwin Charles Darwin has become Christianity's greatest enemy with his theories of the creation of species and has caused people to turn their backs on faith and look to science to be their religion. The way in which Darwin describes the creation of species in The Origin of Species does not agree with how species are created in Christian teachings. Charles Darwin's theories have impacted so many different aspects of life from what we teach our children in school to our chosen faith. Charles Darwin explains his theories on how different species are created in The Origin of Species. Darwin tells us that different species are created for a few different reasons. Darwin tells us that specie's "struggle for existence" plays a major part in the creation of species. The "struggle for existence" is if a variation is helpful then it will probably reappear in future generations, but if it is unhelpful the species will have a harder time surviving and then reproducing. When offspring that have these helpful variations continuously reproduce this is known as Natural selection, nature is selecting the useful variations and getting rid of the non–helpful ones. The "struggle for existence" is the accumulation of variations until a new species is created, but how do variations occur? Darwin explains that scientist thought that there are variations in species because of environmental reasons like climate, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Rock Collection Narrative I'm glad you, too, enjoyed my story about my rock collection. I'm gearing up for the Ravencon convention this weekend (if you happen to be there this weekend, look me up). I enjoy storytelling and most recently, I was advised by one of my mentors to get out of my bubble– and that I did. And this time, while visiting with friends, I met their new family dog and was blessed to hold one of their new yellow chicks. For a moment, I was transported back to my grandmother's house in Small Town, Tennessee. I could smell the fresh Earth and hear all of the different livestock, fowl and outside dogs that guarded the animals, just as they did the house, from any predators. • 13. Summary Of Reaping By Arna Bontemps In "A Black Man Talks of Reaping" by Arna Bontemps is about a poor black slave farmer that is constantly planting seeds and is in fear because of the white people. Since this was the time of slavery this took place around the 1800s. This poem talks about how this man planted so much that he could plant seeds from Canada and Mexico and that he can only bring or show what he had in his hands. This poem could also be an allusion to the bible (327), "Whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap"(Galatians 6:7). This poem has figurative language and literal sound devices in each stanza. For example end rhymes, imagery, and metaphors. In all three stanzas Bontemps uses End rhymes. For example, in the first stanza: I have sown beside all waters in my day. I planted deep, within my heart the fear That wind or fowl would take the grain away. I planted safe against this stark lean year. He uses end rhymes to make it have more of a rhythm. To make it sound like a lyrical song and give pleasure. In the first stanza the main in the poem is talking about how he has been planted seeds throughout his entire life and ... He uses this so that the reader can have a better understanding or emotion and tone of what the man has been going through and that he had to hide away all his fear from the men. The poem mentions how the the wind or fowl takes the grains away, this is also imagery, giving us a picture of how the wind is evil, or some type of creature that takes the grain away. He also mentioned how he scattered seeds so much that he could make it to Canada and Mexico and that even with all the hard work, all he could show was, what was in his hands. This would also be called a hyperbole, because for how he explained that he made rows from Canada to mexico.. He uses this to exaggerate how much this man has been ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Water Fowl Hunting Research Paper Across the United States of America, water fowl hunting is one of the most popular hunting sports that occurs every year during the autumn and winter seasons. Hunters spread out over wide range of areas across the United States to take a shot at geese, ducks, and other well–known game birds. Water fowl hunting can be done in crop fields or on a river. When a shot goes up over half the shots taken pellets are falling towards a field or wet land area. Concerns have been made and laws and regulations against Lead Shots are being adjusted. The new laws and regulations are requiring water fowl hunters who use traditional lead shot ammunition are now to use steel shots when water fowl hunting. (White) Lead Ammunition has been the traditional form of ammunition for over many decades now. Many hunters have been using lead ammunition since the early 1960's. Ammunition manufactures started creating shot gun shells that are made of red plastic and contain over a minimum of twenty or more lead pellets in each shell. Some shells very in different sizes and contain different amounts of lead pellets for different hunting uses. These shells were made to have a high killing power when hunting waterfowl. Steel shells give a cleaner shot that will help the game bird bleed more freely without getting the pellet stuck inside its body. • 17. First Chapter Of The Bible: The Big Bang Theory There are many theories associated the the creation of the Earth. Some of these are well known, such as the Big Bang Theory, the theory that the universe created itself. Another theory is that the universe was never created, it just always existed. One of the most popular theories is that God created the heavens and the Earth, and this is all explained in the first chapter of the Bible. This theory is commonly referred to as creationism, the religious belief that the universe and life originated "from specific acts of divine creation." On the very first page of the Bible, the journey begins, "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth" (Genesis 1:1). From this text from the Bible, it is told that the very first thing God did ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Bible proclaims, "And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so" (Genesis 1:24). Later it also explains, "And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth" (Genesis 1:26). From this part of the text it can be seen that God has created, along with all other animals that would reside on dry land, humans. He creates man in his image, and makes them have power over all of the other animals on the earth. The two first humans were named Adam and Eve, and they reproduced to form everyone who is on this earth today, along with all of the other animals. Also, this text explains, "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness..." (Genesis 26). When God says the word our in this piece of the text, this could mean that God was not creating the universe by himself. This could mean there could have been angels present, but there are many different theories on this. God saw that this was all very good, and that concluded day ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Similarities Between Aluminum Fowl And Superman By Bill... In his book, Introduction to Documentary, Bill Nichols talks about how documentaries are defined, the different modes of documentaries, and the ethical issues that may arise when making a documentary. Nichols talks about how there isn't a set definition for a documentary, but how there are many different modes of documentary's. We can see examples of these things in the two short documentaries that we viewed in class. James Clauer's Aluminum Fowl and Cooper's Superman are two documentaries' that use these different modes of documentary filmmaking to inform the viewers of their subjects. • 23. Vegucated: The Five Types Of Vegetarianism What is a vegetarian? What is a vegan? What is the difference between the two? Is it really that healthy to become one? Should I become one? Why should I become one? These are some of the questions that appeared in my mind after watching the documentary film, Vegucated. I became more curious about these things so I did some research about Vegetarianism and found out that there are several types of Vegetarianism. I found a website called vegetarian–nation.com which explains the types of vegetarianism. • 27. Malleefowl Research Paper The Malleefowl is a heavily–built Australian bird that lives on the ground. Relatively, it is about the size of a chicken. Its scientific name, Leipoa ocellata, which belongs to the Megapode family. The Malleefowl is a heavy–bodied, ground–feeding, egg–incubating vertebrae. The two certain characteristics that make the Malleefowl different from most birds is that they construct large nesting mounds and that the parents do not care for their chicks after they are born. Being the only living species of the genus Leipoa, it is a bird of unique qualities, although the Giant Malleefowl (which is now extinct) was a close relative. The Malleefowl is found nationally, especially in the states of Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia and Western Australia. You need to change the harsh criteria you put on the farmers, the process by which you decide which farms get bonuses and pay cuts, and you need to increase the wages these farmers receive in the first place (Nelson and Kaptur). The Use Of Egg In The Great Gatsby Kumamoto analyzes the use of egg and fowl references throughout the novel and ties it back to Fitzgerald's obsession with "The Feast of Trimalchio" in The Satyricon in which eggs represent wealth, popularity, and prosperity. Also, at the end of the novel, Fitzgerald has Tom and Daisy feasting on cold chicken to play on the coward definition of the word "chicken" and illustrate the low levels higher class people stoop to in order to see the defeat of others. • 33. Differences Between Domesticated And Wild Animals There are notable differences between domesticated and wild animals. They are more obvious when compared between different breeds of the same species. For most domesticated species, the variations within an organism are usually descended from a single wild species. Variation arises from natural selection, and refers to variation both within and between species. Darwin did not believe that all domesticated species arises from a common wild ancestor, however, modern genetics disproves this. Research shows that all domesticated dogs arise from their wild ancestor, the wolves. Similar trends are found in other domesticated animals like cats, horses, cows, and birds. Specifically, I will be analyzing the trends in domestication of fowl and poultry. Fowl includes two orders of birds: landfowl (chicken, quail, pheasant) and waterfowl (duck, goose, swan). Fowl typically refers to wild birds. Poultry indicates birds that are domesticated and raised for meat or eggs. By analyzing the behavior, evolution species variation, and domestication of birds, we can determine the traits selected for different species. Through domestication, many breeds of birds have evolved with alterations that could be seen as adaptations to the environment. Behavior of Wild Fowl It is widely known that the domestication of an organism involves numerous changes: genetically, physically, socially, mentally. An interesting occurrence to note is reduction in brain size from wild to domestic animals. As ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Silkie Chicken Research Paper A Silkie chicken is distinct from other breeds of domestic fowl. This fuzzy bird looks unlike most other poultry, sporting fur like feathers, a fifth toe, black internal tissue, and feathered feet. During the thirteenth century they were referred to as the Wooly Hen (Percy, 2006). A Silkie's feathers appear fur–like because they lack barbs which would normally hold the strands together. Each strand stands free and is two to three inches long. However, they function as normal feathers do in any other breed. • 39. Fowl Symbolism Used in Poetry Essay Symbolism had a large impact on the writers of the nineteen century similar to the effect it places in literature today. Symbolism is explained in these terms, "Symbolism can take different forms. Generally, it is an object representing another to give it an entirely different meaning much deeper and more significant."(Batova) The more significant meaning is often overlooked upon first inspection but when read again a new understanding can be developed. One symbol often used in poetry during this gothic time period of the nineteenth was the use of a bird as a type of omen. The pure white and playful nature of the Albatross create a feeling that the bird came only bring good lest it should be harmed. A stark contrast to this view comes in Poe's poem The Raven which depicts a cold dreary night and the narrator alone fighting the sorrows of their life. The sleek black of the raven's body automatically creates an evil feeling behind the presence of the bird. "black is considered a negative color; In many western traditions raven represents darkness, destructiveness and evil. They are sometimes associated with deities of evil and of death. Both witches and the Devil were said to be able to take the shape of a raven." (Black) Thus the very appearance of the raven presents and eerie feeling to the poem and makes the reader question the order of events that are to follow. "Then, upon the velvet sinking, I betook myself to linking Fancy unto fancy, thinking what this ominous bird of yore – What this grim, ungainly, ghastly, gaunt, and ominous bird of yore Meant in croaking "Nevermore."(The Raven Lines 69–72) As the image of the Raven is described the reader begins to feel more and more unsettled by the presence of the bid and what it could possibly symbolize. Due to NDV being highly contagious and severe it is classed as a notifiable disease, therefore any bird showing symptoms of this disease must be reported to the Animal and Plant Health Agency where action will be taken to prevent the disease from spreading (DEFRA, 2014b). Vaccinations can be administered to protect birds against clinical signs and decrease the risks of contracting the virus (CFSPH, 2016). Strict biosecurity practices and correct husbandry are also vital in the prevention of NDV, this includes the isolation of any outbreaks, disposal of any infected carcasses, thorough cleaning and disinfection (Beautyofbirds, 2017); (DEFRA, 2014a). • 52. Greed In Abigail's ' Introduction The cause of nearly all of humanity's conflicts and wrongdoings, from wars over land, to massacres, to robberies can be traced back to one human vice: greed. This inherent hunger for property, power, or wealth, can completely take over a person's life and lead to conflict and misery. However, unlike physical hunger, which can be easily satisfied, greed is often intensified, not mitigated by the attainment of what one desires. This self–perpetuating nature of greed indicates that the vice is not actually caused by the need for something, as hunger is, but rather the belief that one deserves some object or quality more than everyone else. Thus a person's greed can only be satisfied once that person has all of what he or she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This shows that compassion can not only overcome greed for a specific commodity, but is capable of conquering one's overall selfishness. Early on in the book, it is clear that Artemis's family is extremely important to him. He worries about his sick mother and is constantly looking for news about his missing father. This sympathy also extends to Butler and Juliet, who although not direct members of the family, help to fill the role that Artemis's missing and insane parents cannot. The book makes this clear in the statement, "Artemis was the closest thing Butler had to a friend, and Butler was the closest Artemis had to a father" (Colfer 16). The empathy Artemis feels for these four family members: his mother, his father, Butler, and Juliet, begins to weaken his greed very early on in his plot. This occurs as soon as he sees the fairy he is about to kidnap. He thinks, "Artemis saw the pain in the creature's eyes as the hollow hypodermic plunged into her body. And for a moment he experienced misgivings. A female. He hadn't expected that. A female, like Juliet, or Mother. Then the moment passed and he was himself again" (Colfer 76). As the Northern fowl mite feeds on blood if poultry have heavy infestations it can cause anemia. The mite's development from egg to egg–laying adult takes about one week under optimum conditions (cool months are more favorable than warm months). While adult mites do not lay a large number of eggs, populations can increase rapidly on a susceptible bird and may exceed 20,000 mites in only a few weeks. Scaly–Leg Mites The Scaly–leg mite (Knemidokoptes mutans) is smaller than the northern fowl mite and live under the scales on birds' legs and feet versus the vent of the bird. They tunnel in the upper layers of skin where they lay their eggs. Signs of infestation include the legs of an infected bird becoming thick and crusty. In severe cases the blood supply to the toes may be lost, and the bird may lose toes. Treatment: An effective insecticide for this mite is Ivermectin. Lady Macbeth in the play seems to be fearless and ambitious while Macbeth seems to cower and flee from his issues. When compared directly to his own wife, he seems to be weak and unmanly even compared to a woman. The witches are written to seem evil and corrupt, yet they bring the downfall of Macbeth. That just deepens the "fair is fowl and fowl is fair" theme that has been taken on by the narrative. Malcom and Macbeth's attitudes appear to reverse from the beginning ... • 64. Artemis Fowl Chapter Summary 1. Summary – The book Artemis Fowl so far has explored the life of the young boy Artemis Fowl the second, and his quest to restore his family to the glory it once had. Artemis plans on doing this by the means of fairies. He learned of their possession of gold, which lead him to kidnap a fairy with the intention of making a profit. Artemis Fowl the second, a twelve year old genius, is the protagonist of the story. He is a pale boy who is gifted with computers, and he spends most of his time indoors. Though he does leave from the haven of his family manor, Artemis dislikes being in the sun. Artemis' father is absent in Artemis' life, though he may be alive, but Artemis still has Butler, his bodyguard and closest person he has to a father. Artemis ... Graduating the highest in her class, she is more than qualified to be an officer, but she is picked on by Commander Root. Though he seems to be mean to her, he means the best. 2. Quote Analysis – "Even as the words came out, Artemis felt guilty. These mind games were having an obvious effect on Holly, destroying her from the inside out. Was there really a need for this?" This quote is important because it shows Artemis' growing sympathy for Holly. It marks how he is changing as a character, adopting a more warm–hearted personality. This is displayed on multiple occasions, an example being Artemis making jokes, which is very unusual. Another example for this is his devotion to his mother, always helping her, who suffers from some type of illness that involves her memory. 3. Personal Reflection – I want to know more about Artemis' father. Artemis seems to think that he is still alive, but he is absent from the lives of his family. If he is still alive, I want to know more about him. One thing being why he started on the path of crime. Another being why he didn't come go back to his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 66. What Is Artemis Fowl The book Artemis Fowl is an adventurous book but I do not like the idea of fairies, trolls, and magic, taking in consideration that I am 13 years old and I was reading books like that when I was 4, perhaps I would have enjoyed it more then. Sure there are numerous people who enjoy the fictional, fantasy, fairytale books but the storyline in Artemis Fowl is not my style and far from the non– fictional, romantic, and sports stories I prefer to read. There were a few interesting scraps in the book that caught my attention like when Artemis was decoding the fairy book or when the troll broke into Artemis's house but the remaining scraps left my mind befuddled because it got really confusing flipping back and forth from everyones point of view ... • 68. Advertising's Fifteen Basic Appeals Jim Fowls Analysis In the article, "Advertising's Fifteen Basic Appeals"(1982), Jim Fowls, a professor at the University Of Houston, discusses the different ways advertisers are reaching people on a daily basis. He claims that advertisers main goal is to appeal to the audience's motives and desires, aiming to make the ad as memorable as possible. Every person has a need that he wishes to satisfy, if the advertisement successfully calls this need "then the persons can be hooked"(Fowls, p. 275). Fowls introduces a list created by the psychologist Henry Murray from Harvard University of 15 human needs that advertisement can appeal to. Murray's classification of needs is a useful tool to understand the effectiveness of an advertisement. The way an advertisement ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He is using his shirt to wipe off his sweat, which shows off his big muscles. Like the previous ad, the slogan is above his head with Nike's logo. The chief element is the need to achieve. Murray claims that People have the desire "to accomplish something difficult. To overcome obstacles and attain a high standard"(Fowls, p. 282), the advertisers are showing how Lebron James wipes off his sweat, a symbol of hard work. They are trying to convey that Lebron James achieved his success by drive, determination, and hard work. The second need being appealed to is the need to dominate. The image brings out Lebron James muscles and depicts him as a big and strong figure. The viewers then associate Nike's products with power. The third need that is being appealed to is the need for affiliation. By choosing Labron Jeames as their presenter, Nike targeted all Cleveland Cavaliers (Lebron James's team) across the world. Many people across the world see their love for a sports team as being a part of a family. Nike identifies its products with Cleveland Cavaliers and implying that if a person is a true fan of the team, and if still wants to be part of the family he must wear ... With today's society image is everything, and advertising uses this to their advantage. Advertising uses this as a way to make insecure people buy products they do not need. Many advertisements that are seen today on television, billboards, newspaper, and magazines are indeed harmful to our eyes and brain. Many of them make people feel like crap, that you don't have this car or that house or that body. • 72. Comparing Artemis Fowl And Eoin Colfer Compare the Protagonist/Antagonist with any character, already studied or from a book, film, etc. The main protagonist of Airman, Conor Broekhart, is very comparable with a lot of male, teenage characters in books, films, and even some of the characters that are from some short stories that we have read in our last unit. Conor is even comparable to the main protagonist from Artemis Fowl, a more famous book and series by the author of this book, Eoin Colfer. The character from this book is, unsurprisingly, named Artemis Fowl. While Conor is described to have blond hair and be tall for his age, Artemis is illustrated with raven black hair and is short for his age. However, they both have very pale skin. Eoin even goes to say that "he was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Artemis may be smarter than Conor, but Conor is definitely braver than him. Conor is credited for making a kite that glided him and Princess Isabella to safety from the burning castle. This awesome feat earned him knighthood, making him Sir Conor Broekhart at the age of 10. Conor changes a lot through the course of the first quarter of Airman. He goes from a small baby to an intelligent young man. Artemis also changes throughout the series. In the beginning, Artemis is more centered on his criminal schemes, but by the last book, The Last Guardian, Fowl realizes that his family and friends are a lot more important. Discuss the plot with a focus on current events in the media. The plot in the book, Airman, can be compared to the recent election that happened in America. In my opinion, Hugo Bonvilain, the antagonist of the story, is a lot like Donald Trump in many ways. One of Trump's slogans had to do with "making America great again". Hugo Bonvilain, also wanted to make the Saltee Islands like they used to be. Both of them miss that the reason things aren't the same as they were before is because the society has improved through time in the time that Airman takes place, or even right ... Use of Opinions, Voices, and Actions in Maria Concepcion "María Concepción did not weep when Juan left her; and when the baby was born, and died within four days, she did not weep" (Porter 144). Katherine Anne Porter's used various writing techniques to develop María Concepción as a round and dynamic character. These methods included the discussion of María's actions, her speech, and by telling what other characters think about María. As a round character María Concepción expressed contradictory attitudes, and diverse personality traits. María Concepción could also be described as an unpredictable or dynamic character. "Knowing all the events of that unhappy day, [María Concepción] was not in yielding mood, and refused to be beaten [by Juan]. She did not scream nor implore; she stood her ground and resisted; she even struck at him" (Porter 147). In another situation María Concepción turned against Juan with anger and rage for his affair with María Rosa. "'God's name' said Juan frozen to the marrow, 'here I am facing my death!' For the long knife [María Concepción] wore habitually at her belt was in her hand" (Porter 148). María Concepción transformation in personality is made clear through her thoughts and speech. In the beginning of the story, María expressed that she had to work hard and endure what others couldn't in order to earn a living. Dressing a fowl had become second nature to María. "'Good God, woman, you do have nerve,' said Givens watching her. 'I can't do that. It gives me the creeps.' 'My home country is Guadalajara.' explained María Concepción, without bravado, as she picked and gutted the fowl" (Porter 143). When María Concepción discovered Juan's affair, being the devoted and silent wife that she was, "it did not occur to [her] to tell Juan she had found him out" (Porter 144). Creationism vs. Evolution Essay Creationism is the theory that man, the earth, and the rest of the universe was originally created rather than randomly exploding from nothingness into chance existence. We reside on the surface of a small superbly crafted, autonomous self regulating space vehicle. Together with survival, conquest and death we bear witness to beauty, fragrances, love and music. • 78. Compare And Contrast Still Life With Game Fowl Beginning in 17th century Italy, the Baroque era is notorious for its exaggeration of movement, and detail meant to convey excitement and tension. Influenced by the Counter Reformation, art began to impart religious themes with detail, particularly towards emotion and drama meant to convince people that Catholicism remained legitimate. One such artist in this movement was Juan Sánchez Cotán, a Spanish Carthusian Monk. Although the bulk of his work comprises religious scenes, he is famous for his work in still life. Another artist specializing in this genre, Clara Peeters, pioneered the way for other Flemish still life artists. While neither conveyed drama, both exhibited competence in creating beautiful and realistic still life paintings. Still Life with Game Fowl contains painterly detail in the animals, fruit, and vegetables. From the left, one notices quince and cabbage suspended next to game birds like mallard and quail. Employing dark colors, the background deliberately seems obscured drawing attention to the foreground. While there appears to be no identifiable setting, the surroundings suggest a shop display or kitchen window. At the bottom, a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Moreover, the placement of the subjects in Still Life with Flowers, Goblet, Dried Fruit, and Pretzels appear satisfyingly symmetrical as opposed to the haphazard placement of subjects in Cotán's.
