GSCSNJ summer camps provide girls with both a sense of
adventure and the chance for personal growth. We encourage girl
participation, personal achievement and skill improvement so every
girl feels comfortable and successful. We offer lots of activities
and program options specifically designed to meet the diverse and
expanding recreational needs and interests of our campers. Camp
teaches girls to take responsibility, and the importance of meaningful
relationships in life. It is where they can truly be themselves, and
accepted for who they are. Self-esteem is boosted, confidence
increases, and girls learn about investing in themselves and the
things that matter. An interesting thing happens at camp when kids
are taken out of their usual environment: the rules change. Everything
changes. Authenticity is rewarded. Responsibility is cool. Maturity
adds clout.
Camp builds confidence. Confidence in one’s abilities is a transferable
skill. A child begins to think, “Well, if I can do that, then I can probably do
this too…” Girls learn to do things they thought they could not do and
recognize their strengths.
New to our summer camps? Visit one of our Open Houses. Tour and
meet the staff: Inawendiwin and Sacy are having their Open Houses on
Sunday, May 4th; Oak Spring is having an Open House on Sunday, May
18th. No registration is necessary. Family and friends are welcome.
Safety is our #1 priority. Staff is hired based on experience, ability
to serve as a role model and a genuine desire to work with children.
All staff participate in pre-camp training. Our camps are accredited by
American Camp Association (ACA) and are certified by the NJ Youth
Camp Safety Act.

I’m Vicky Allen, Sacy’s Resident Camp
Director and Camp Program Manager,
but I’m known as “Bear” to all of my
camp friends. I started as Oak Spring’s
Camp Director 20 years ago when I
followed my passion from the Edison
Township school system into the woods
of our camps. This is my fifth summer
at Sacy Resident and I’m more excited
than ever for this coming summer! Girls
who came for their first resident camp
experience are growing up – and now
they’re coming back to join the Camp
Aide in Training (CAT) program and
become tomorrow’s camp leaders! I
hope to see you at camp this summer,
joining me in this wonderful opportunity!

Director at Oak Spring. I’m enthusiastic
about all things camp and outdoors! I
first became involved with Oak Spring
Day Camp in my college years, and
after a few years of teaching in North
Jersey and Japan, I returned to Oak
Spring last summer as Camp Director.
I am passionate about giving girls
the best camp experience possible. I
truly believe that camp builds girls of
courage, confidence and character,
who make the world a better place! I
am looking forward to seeing girls grow
during their time at Oak Spring Day

Hi all! I’m Shena Seppanen,
Inawendiwin’s Day Camp Director,
but at camp I’m known as “Stumbles”.
2014 will be my 14th summer working
at Girl Scout camp! I’ve made my way
from Kettle Run to Sacy to Inawendiwin
and worked up the ranks from Assistant
Unit Leader to Unit Leader to Assistant
Camp Director and finally Camp
Director. It has been a wonderfully
rewarding journey so far. Throughout
the years, the most amazing thing
I’ve seen is the transformation of my
campers into confident, responsible,
accomplished young women…some of
whom are even part of the counseling
staff now! I’m looking forward to
meeting all of our new campers and
welcoming back returning campers for
new adventures!

What you should know so you’re
ready for a summer of fun
No matter what your age – there are plenty of summer programs
from which to choose. Camp is designed for YOU.

Our rustic camps offer day long, outdoor, summer activities.
Hiking is definitely a daily activity just because our camps
have so much to offer. Wearing sneakers and socks is a must
– no time for flip-flops at camp. Girls have places to go and
friends to make!
Camp is about friends. Camp allows kids to take a deep breath
and unplug from their electronics. Cell phones are not allowed
at camp. Girls need to be able to be away from home without
needing to call home. It has been our experience that calling
home tends to make campers more homesick and is disruptive
to other campers. The Camp Director will contact parents or
guardians if problems arise. Every attempt will be made to place
girls together when coming with friends, but it is not guaranteed.
Girls must be in the same camp session and age level to be
buddies in the same program.

Oak Spring is a 120-acre camp,
bordering the Delaware-Raritan Canal
in Somerset County. Oak Spring is our
camp of rolling hills and grassy fields.
Lower camp offers shaded and wooded
sites along with the Craft Shack, Daisy
Den, Camp Office and Health Center.
“The HILL” includes Oak Spring’s new
pool, archery range and zip line.

Inawendiwin is a sprawling 395acre camp in Burlington County and
is located in the Pine Barrens. Camp
activities and sites are along trails that
follow the newly replaced lake. The
camp day starts with Opening Flag at
the Council Fire Ring – here you’re
close to the Camp Office, Adventure
House (arts and crafts), the renovated
canoeing area and the Troop House.
Your day will include hiking to archery,
zip line and ends at Inawendiwin’s pool.

Sacy (pronounced “sack – ee”), short
for Camp Sacajawea, is a 186-acre
camp located in the pine barrens of
NJ in Gloucester County. Sacy is our
resident camp offering week-long
summer camp experiences, from
Sunday – Friday.

How can you get to camp?
All of our camps offer optional busing. The proposed bus stops
and schedules are included with each of the camp’s pages. You
will get updated information closer to the start of your daughter’s
week at camp. We are committed to keeping the bus routes –
slight adjustments might have to be made based on registration.
Parents should be at the bus stop about 10 minutes prior to
the pick-up and drop-off times. All campers must be met and
signed out at drop-off; no camper will be left at a stop. Campers
who are not met, effect the schedule for the remaining stops, so
parents or guardians need to make every effort to be on time.
Note: Parents are responsible for picking up their camper if
she attends the Night Lights program on specified weeks.
The Night Lights program ends at 8PM on those Thursdays.
You also have the option to use “Before/After Care” at both
Inawendiwin and Oak Spring Day Camps. The drop-off/pick
up times have been established to control traffic and safety
for the bus dismissal.
Whether you bring your camper or put her on a bus – all
campers must be signed in and out.

Before you get to camp – registration has been set up
so that girls attend programs based on their age level and
interests. Program size is limited so that each girl has
opportunities to try all of the activities and even improve
skills. Staffing is based on age, program size and adultgirl ratios established by GSUSA and ACA. Everyone will
receive a confirmation packet with complete information in
about a week after you register. The confirmation packets
will also be available on campforgirls.org.
Once at camp – Girls should wear comfortable clothing.
Light colors help reflect heat. Don’t wear new clothes to
camp – you’re going to get dirty if you expect to have fun.
Sneakers and socks are required – no flip flops, sandals
or open-toed shoes – remember girls are participating in
outdoor activities. Everything needs to be labeled with the
camper’s name. Girls should know what’s in their backpack
– so if it gets misplaced, they can identify it in Lost-N-Found.
Everyone needs a water bottle, lunch*, towel, swim suit, bug
repellent, and sunscreen. Girls might want to bring extra
socks and underwear. If rain is in the forecast – don’t forget
to pack your poncho – you’ll still be walking around camp!
*You’ll get a reminder about cookout day. Overnights include
dinner and breakfast.
We’re going to take good care of your
daughter. Each camp has a Health Center,
staffed by a qualified Health Supervisor who
is on-site during all camp activities (including
overnights).
Our camps meet the health and safety
standards established by GSUSA, ACA, and
NJ Health Department. If illness or injury
requires additional medical attention, the
Health Supervisor will call the on-call doctor or necessary
emergency personnel.
Please do not send your camper if she is sick or doesn’t feel
well – it is better to have her stay home for a day so she’s
able to feel better and return to camp the next day.

work together – proper behavior is always required. One
behavior that will not be tolerated is bullying. GSCSNJ

Girls get to design and create their own program. What will you do this week? You
decide! Registered girls will be contacted at the beginning of summer to discuss their
own choices! Program includes a trip.

Campers register for specific program themes designed to give campers
new and unique opportunities to learn, grow and make friends. In addition
to the program theme, campers will have an opportunity to participate in
a variety of camp activities including swimming and boating. Every week,
campers will also participate in a cookout and help prepare their group’s
lunch over a campfire.

Buses $100/Week Oak Spring Day
Camp has optional bus transportation
with centralized stops made in an
effort to shorten the bus ride. Routes
may have to be adjusted based on
registration. Actual pick up and drop
off times will be sent one month
prior to camp. Transportation is the
responsibility of the parent for late
arrival or early departure. Full bus fees
must be paid at the time of registration.

Night Lights programs are held on Thursday of indicated weeks. Program
includes dinner and ends at 8PM. All camp lunch is offered on Friday of
these weeks. No bus transportation for girls staying for the extended day.

Exciting options for campers

Welcome to Oak Spring, Camp of Witchcraft and Wizardry! They will explore the
magical world of camp, learning skills and creating bonds forever.

Guard Start

Includes activities, supervision and an afternoon snack.

Please include your daughter in the summer camp decision
making process. If you have questions, please contact us. We’re
here to help everyone get ready for camp. We want everyone to
have a great time and be successful in everything they try.
Night Lights – A great intro for girls who have wondered
what camp is like at night, without having to stay all night.
Girls get to stay late on Thursday night (of specific weeks)
and enjoy an extra swim, games, dinner and a campfire.
Parents must pick up their camper by 8 PM.

Overnights – Girls ready for an overnight are going to love
this extra we’ve added to the day camp program. At Oak
Spring, girls will get to stay in one of the yurts, acorn huts
or in a platform tent based on their program’s home base
during the day. At Inawendiwin, overnight camping includes
acorn huts, platform tents or buildings.
No matter whether your camper is staying for the Night
Lights program or the Overnight, you will get more info about
the planned menu and activities that week. Your daughter’s
Unit Leader will be confirming her participation with you.
Resident Camp – Please read the confirmation information
on www.campforgirls.org when considering the resident camp
experience for your daughter.

Health Info
CampDoc
CampDoc.com is the electronic health record management
system. It will help us consolidate and integrate camper
health information into a centralized and secure location. The
CampDoc system will give our doctors and nurses instant
access to camper health information, a key component in
providing patient care. Families who used the CampDoc
system last summer will not have to re-enter all of the
camper’s information. All you have to do is update and
make any necessary corrections.
The security, confidentialilty and privacy of your camper’s
personal health information will always be protected. The
CampDoc.com site is secure, encrypted and password
protected.

• The email address we send to CampDoc is the one you

provide with your registration. Please make sure you always
have access to that email account.

• You will receive a “Welcome E-mail” from CampDoc.com with

information about how to set up your account and complete
your camper’s health information.

• Click the link in the Welcome E-mail to set a new password

for your CampDoc.com account.

• Follow the instructions, and complete the health history for

your camper. Alerts will appear for any required information
that is missing.

• Upload any required documents to your CampDoc.com

account. (If you have trouble, you can mail copies to us and we will scan

so great: crafts, singing, games, outdoor exploration and swimming. Splash around in

Put your problem-solving skills to the test as you spend this adventurous week
searching for clues and solving riddles to find the treasures hidden throughout camp.
Girls will practice the art of letterboxing by learning the basics, make stamps, think of
clues, and create a camp letterbox.

CAT: Camp Aide Training- girls partner with staff in the delivery of program to younger
Girl Scouts in the day camp setting. Girls who pass will earn the CIT Mentoring Award
and are eligible to apply as a volunteer Camp Aide.

Ready, aim, fire! If you’ve ever wanted to try your hand at archery, this is the session
for you. Spend time each day on the archery range - at the end of the week, take the
archer’s challenge against your counselors as you shoot like Katniss and Merida.

A new adventure is awaiting you! Geocaching is a fun outdoor activity that involves
finding things that are hidden that no one else knows about. You will learn how to use
a GPS and navigate through the woods to the hidden treasures. When you are not

Glamorous + Camping= Glamping! Think camping can’t be glamorous? Well, then you
have not been “glamping” yet! Experience a spa-like camping experience complete
with face masks, manicures, pedicures, paraffin wax and more in between all of our
traditional camp fun.

Campers register for specific program themes designed to give campers
new and unique opportunities to learn, grow and make friends. In addition
to the program theme, campers will have the opportunity to participate in
a variety of camp activities including swimming and boating. Every week,
campers will also participate in a cookout and help prepare their group’s
lunch over a campfire.

Camp has optional bus transportation
with centralized stops made in an
effort to shorten the bus ride. Routes
may have to be adjusted based on
registration. Actual pick up and drop
off times will be sent one month
prior to camp. Transportation is the

Day Camp cook-outs are either
Wednesday or Thursday. You’ll
get more information about which
day and what’s on the menu
earlier in the week. Campers can
still bring their own lunch as a
substitute. Menu choices take into
account special diets – so that
there is something for everyone.
Please make sure you include special dietary needs and
restrictions on your camper’s health record with CampDoc.

Traditions of camp include Opening and Closing flag
each day, with units taking turns as the Color Guard. The
day camps have their closing campfires on Friday afternoon.
Sacy has a Sunday night campfire where Chief White Fang
welcomes the campers – and a closing campfire by the lake
on Thursday evening where we start to say our goodbyes to
friends and a great week at camp.

Inawendiwin Day Camp, 71 Powell Place Road, Tabernacle,
NJ 08088 in Burlington County
Oak Spring Day Camp, 228 Weston Road,
Somerset, NJ 08873 in Somerset County
Sacajawea Resident Camp, 3064 Victoria Ave.,
Newfield, NJ 08344 in Gloucester County

Trading Post: The Trading Posts include plush animals, jewelry,
fashion accessories and camping supplies. Inawendiwin and
Oak Spring Trading Posts are open several times a week. Unit
Leaders will schedule times and remind the girls to bring their
money. Sacy’s Trading Post is open on Sunday (during check-in)
and Friday afternoon (for pick-up).
