Year End Reflection Essay
Year End Reflection 2016
When I think of grade 8, I think of all the sports I play and how much I developed as a student
athlete from the beginning of the year to now.
Why sports comes to mind when I think of grade 8 is because this would be the year where I'm
transitioning from grade 8 to high school, which means I will have to start taking sports more
seriously, because in high school sports, for example, in football you have to be really good, and you
can't depend on being a "good athlete' because when you get to the next level of playing football
(high school) everyone is a good athlete, and you start to realize that being athletic will only take
you so far.
My main sport that I play is football. I started playing football when I was 11, when I started I was
pretty good. I was playing at a position lots of players wanted to play, linebacker, and I didn't
really take it to my advantage because I know anything about football, but as that season went on
I started getting better at my position, but the following year, I was played at a different position
because the kids we were playing with were a year older than me, that's when I realized if I wanted
to be a good player, I had to try, and that is when I really started developing in football, the...show

I developed a lot of skills this year, coming in as a kid who didn't take his school work seriously, I
learned that school really does matter and I will need school if I want to do anything in life. This
year specifically also taught me a lot of skills that I could use in high school like time
management and being able to control myself when I have freedom in school. This year also
taught me skills I didn't know I had, like if I separate myself from my friends I could complete lots
of work without the

Radiologic Technologist Admission Essay
My mother always reminded me how education is the most important tool which I can use to
improve myself and my community. After obtaining my undergraduate degree in geography in
the late nineties, I later moved to the United States a year later to peruse a master degree in
computer sciences. After arriving in the US, I learned that life was not as easy as I thought. I
could not afford the tuition, paying my bills and taking care of my family. I later dropped out of
school to work some low paying jobs in order to save money to continue my education. After several
years of contemplating what to study, I enrolled in a community college to continue my education in
radiologic technology. As an undergraduate student I developed a huge passion for computers, I took

I was hired as a radiographer in a local hospital. I gained a lot of clinical experiences in the
healthcare setting. I fell in love with job, I enjoyed helping people. This gave me an opportunity
to meet people and be compassionate about the sick. After a few years of working as a
radiographer, I took some more certification courses and exams in computed Tomography (CT scan)
and Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) which boosted my skills and knowledge as a radiologic
technologist. Because of my love for information technology, I took a course and exam in medical
imaging informatics and was certified as an imaging informatics professional (CIIP). With my
experience and knowledge, I was promoted to the position of coordinator and in charge of imaging
informatics (PACS administrator). Under the tutelage of my Director, I learned valuable leadership
skills. I began doing some training and administrative duties coupled with intermittent clinical work.
This position has also awakened my desire to pursue my graduate education and acquire a solid
background I so desire to shape my interest in healthcare and computer

How My Parents Raised Me
How My Parents Raised Me As far as I can remember I have had a happy childhood. I don't have a
dramatic or a traumatic experience as to how my parents raised me like most of the other kids.
My parents handled my wrongdoings and mistakes very calmly, although I can't remember doing
something that's very bad. I guess you could say that I'm spoiled but I don't think I am. Being an
only child I think helped on making my punishments not that painful. But how my parents raised
me is what made me the person that I am today, and I think they did a great job. No, my parents
were never pushing or demanding what I should do or become. My first 4 years of life, it was just
traveling, since I was just two months old. I am lucky in many ways. I was born...show more

Make sure that the weakest have their share. If someone has a hard time, do not put the person
more down. Help the weak. Plant trees or flowers; do anything what makes surroundings more
beautiful. Not only me, but everybody around my father, has been learning these facts of life.
Even my mom, she became totally devoted to our pet dogs. These things and more have been my
guiding ropes these nearly 19 years of my life. Since I was in kinder, I was never pushed or
forced to study, or to be the best or even second best. I was taught to be fair and independent. For
my parents, any level of test grades was good. I was never told to become an engineer, nurse or a
doctor. Choice was trusted on me. My parents said: Be you, because the future is yours, we just
try our best to give a nice path and a little push for your starting journey in life. Here again, I been
lucky, no demanding and no pressure. I have been taught to make my own decisions and to stick
with them. That is maybe the greatest thing in my upbringing, loving and trusting parents, whom
been treating me as equal, not just like a kid. Anything and everything was and is discussed in the
dinner table or any given time when we are together. No matter how young I was, there were never
secrets or some "adult talk only", I was always present and part of it. From Global matters, to politics
and family planning, I was taught everything before I was 8 years old. There were no questions or

Raspberry Pi Literature Review
CHAPTER 2 Literature Review 2.1Introduction The main purpose of this chapter is to study
about the existing machine available, the design and make comparison with Fish Feeder using
Raspberry Pi. 2.2Existing systems 2.2.1Automatic Fish Feeder Controlled by an AtTiny85 This
machine was created by Michael Braverman on 2012 to feed his fish when he not at home. This
machine uses a pair of HTX 500 Micro Servos and ATTiny85 that is been programmed by
Arduino. The food is distributed when the bottle cap bumps the bottle flapper and release the
food. The food will fall to the cap as shown on the picture below. It will later rotate back to the tank
before slowly disperse the food. The advantages of this device are it easy to make and programmed.

He then created this machine by using Arduino and a stepper motor driver chip. The food is
being placed inside a small Tupperware bin, where the drill bit inside the Tupperware slowly
pushes the food out of the container, avoiding the food from being stuck. There are an AC timer
unit that controls how often the Arduino is powered on and subsequently feeds the fish. Figure

Aquarium Feeder using Arduino The problems of this machine are the user had to program the
machine using the AC timer and if the timer is broken, the fish cannot be fed. It also had the
possibility of tampering as the additional volt of the timer can speed up the motor. This can cause
the food being dispersed twice the amount of the food needed and cause overfeeding.

Case Study: Riss V. New York
Riss v. New York is centered around the issue of whether or not the city was liable for the failure
to provide special protection to a member of the public. Linda Riss was subject to multiple threats
from her attorney and repeatedly requested police protection. She eventually suffered harm when
those threats were carried out. The rule applied in this case revolves around the provision of a
governmental service to protect the public generally from external hazards and particularly to
control the activities of criminal wrongdoers. The amount of protection that may be provided is
limited by the resources of the community and by a considered legislative–executive decision auto
how those resources may be deployed. Linda Riss is seeking damages

Stalins Rise To Power Essay
Question: How far did Stalin achieve and maintain what Kruchev described as "the accumulation of
immense and limitless power", in the USSR between 1924 and 1945?
Between 1924 and 1945, Joseph Stalin was able to emerge as the leader of the USSR and maintain
what Kruchev described as "the accumulation of immense and limitless power". Stalin's rise to power
was a combination of his ability to manipulate situations and the failure of others to prevent him
from taking power, especially Leon Trotsky. Stalin ruled theUSSR from 1929 until his death in
1953. His rule was one of tyranny, a great change from the society that his predecessor,Lenin, had
envisioned. During his time of reign, Stalin put into effect two self–proclaimed "five–year

Also, Stalin was much more involved with the base of the Party and was thought to have worked
hard to get himself to the top. Meanwhile, Trotsky was seen as a man trying to push his way in.
Further damaging Trotsky, Lenin described him as possessing "...excessive self–confidence...
and overly attracted by the purely administrative aspects of affairs..." Even though he
unintentionally projected Trotsky in this way, Lenin felt that if the removal of Stalin were not acted
upon, the conflict between Trotsky and Stalin would intensify, which would jeopardize the whole
Party. Combined with the Testament, Trotsky could have used the Postscript to obtain power, but
instead Stalin squashed it in the Central Committee.
Once eliminating Trotsky, Stalin's idea of, "socialism in our country," inevitably meant that Russia
needed strength. The productions in the USSR had almost reached pre–war levels by the
mid–1920s, but the population of Russia had also increased by 20 million people. No matter,
Stalin assured that maximum efforts and resources would be given to the expansion and
strengthening of Russia herself rather than an effort to start a revolution elsewhere. This is
explained in his famous 1931 speech, gaining power for himself. The people had nowhere else to
turn to and needed a leader. Stalin was there and knew what to do to make the people interested in
his ideas, thus acquired their trust and control. From these ideas, he created his first

The rise of the West refers to a period of time when Western Europe rose to power due to many
environmental, political, and social factors. Many historians attribute the Rise of the West to the
time period of 1450 to 1850. This power surge of Western Europe has been attributed to the global
dominance of Western Europe and America in the 21 century. The interesting aspect regarding the
Rise of the West is how Western Europe developed so differently from other parts of the world,
leading it to be the superpower of the world. Over the past 50 years, the idea of the rise of the West
has been closely re–examined. Prior to the 1950s, historians believed that the rise of the West
occurred because it was destined to; because Europe is the best and...show more content...
By defining economics as the most important aspect of the rise in power of the West, Frank also
defined when the importance of global economy came to be. Many historians and economist have
stated that the global economic system occurred after the Rise of the West; Frank disagrees. Frank
believes that the world economy has been occurring since 1500s in the form of global trading. "A
single global world economy with a worldwide division of labor and multilateral trade from 1500
onward" (pg.7). Frank's notion that economics is the driving force behind the Rise of the West is
correct in the fact that economy is a major force behind all innovations and advancements. A
country cannot advance if it does not have the money to research and better its technologies,
culture, and society. Frank's notion of a single world economy is also correct in the fact that
trading between Asia, Africa, and Europe does define a global economic system. What Frank lacks
in his idea of the Rise of the West is his unwillingness to accepting innovative culture as a driving
force behind the Rise of the West.
What Frank lacked in the idea of culture in the Rise of the West is given credit for by David
Landes. Landes believes the Rise of the West occurred mainly because of European's innovative
culture after 1000 C.E. that led it to transform world power during the Industrial Revoltion. (pg.4)
Landes' argument that innovative minds of Europe helped in creating the superpower

What is the Impact of Stress on University Students Academic Performance?
1. EXPLANATION OF RESEARCH TOPIC
1.1 Purposes of Research Topic
Newth (2011) claims that modern day stress seems to be more widespread than ever causing
interference with human intellect, emotional and interpersonal functioning. Therefore; I suggest that
students will encounter stress and it will impact their academic performance. In this fast pace and
performance driven society each organization needs well performing people. The only way we will
know what people require to become productive and less stressed is to explore topics as my
research question. The topic...show more content...
Which collects the health statistics of students from universities all around the world every second
year, reported that 40.2 percent of Santa Clara University students identified that stress affected their
individual academic performance during the last 12 months of their studies (Temple,2011). Temple
(2011) reported a survey conducted in 2004 that assessed the overall well–being of 47,202
undergraduates nationwide. The findings were that 32.4 percent of students recognized stress as
the main obstacle to their academic performance. This was said to be above the common cold,
depression, death of a relative, sexual assault and eating disorders. Stress is "once considered as the
nation's number one health epidemic; prolonged stress can lead to ulcers, heart disease, stroke,
major depression and to a shorter life span" (Temple, 2011).
Based on these findings from research done previously I feel that this study is important. Firstly, we
need to understand what causes the stressors and how it affects the individual. For example, if you
have an entire university with stressed students, not being productive, not performing well
academically perhaps thinking of dropping out of university because of the overwhelming anxiety; it
can be detrimental to the institution in terms of status and students in terms of individual realisation.
Secondly, we soon have to formulate effective and efficient stress management guidelines as we

Depression Research Paper
Each year the number of individuals affected by depression is growing. According to "types of
depression" published by iFred.org more than 350 million people suffer from depression
disorder. There are many ways to treat depression, such as SNRI's, MAIO's, TCA's or with
monitored usage, marijuana. The most common today are SSRI's or selective serotonin reuptake
inhibitors. You may have heard of some of the more common SSRI's such as, Zoloft, Prozac, or
Celexa. The use of these medicines are debated among doctors, because they have serious side
effects, that can worsen or add symptoms to your illness. As we race to find a treatment, the
growing risk for getting depression is a big concern for not only the American people but the world
as a whole. (iFred.org) Depression is a chronic illness that consists of you feeling blue, or sad.

They can change the amount of serotonin your body with a type of medicine called SSRI's or
selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. These SSRI's come with a long list of serious side effects
including nausea, weight gain or loss, increased irrational thoughts, dizziness and perhaps one of
the most serious serotonin syndrome. Serotonin syndrome is the accumulation of too much
serotonin in your body. This can create even worse side effects. Serotonin syndrome is very
dangerous and can be fatal if not treated. Other types of medicines used for treating depression
include SNRI's, TCA's, and MAOI's. SNRI's are serotonin norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors.
SNRI's are a lot like SSRI's both affect the amount of serotonin in the brain. SNRI's also affect the
amount of norepinephrine in your brain. Also both these medicines most of the same side effects.
TCA's or tricyclic antidepressants are an earlier form of antidepressants. TCA's tend to have more
side effects including dizziness, hypersensitivity,

RISD Personal Statement
I currently attend the Rhode Island School of Design, a prestigious art and design institution,
majoring in Graphic Design. Having attended RISD for the past two years, I have experienced what
is valuable and matured to find out what I want for myself. Simply, I want to pursue a computation
/computer science related field upholding values of strong design application. Looking at alumni in
relation to my skills and interests, I have assurance that I will do fine, but I don't want to do just fine.
As an artist and designer of the 21st century, it is important for me to know and connect the values of
technology with design to enhance communication in relation to the current age. Although RISD is a
great institution, it does not offer the specific resources that I want to pursue; I am interested in an
environment that can cultivate my passion in other applications whereas RISD is rooted in a more
departmental tradition. I believe that in order to have a more complex understanding of one subject,
investigating other subjects through a design mindset, would allow me to seek a more passionate
advance towards design. Rather than existing in a bubble where art and design were merely
conventions to live by, a more integrative approach to design, to see computational knowledge
incorporated into the fundamentals of design, and vice versa, is something that I want to contribute
to the developing world. Design does not live within an art school but it exists within its application.
Thus, I want to transfer to an institution that can offer an intersection of design and computation.

Risky Play Essay
Teachers observed anxiety is very likely to be spread among children in risky play. As children
can perceive educators' attitudes and feelings toward risky play, they are evaluating risky play
based on educators' opinions and reactions to risky play. Educators' emotions can influence children
effectively as their emotions that bring into the class would create a corresponding emotional
climate in class and children would be affected by these emotions (Becker, Goetz, Morger &
Ranellucci, 2014). According to Neville's interview with Stephanie, she suggested that educators'
negative emotions to risky play can be instilled in children's minds (Dwyer, 2016). Through
educators verbal expression such as "It is scary", "You should not do that at all",...show more

Moreover, educators' anxiety of risky play not only reflects on children's risky play, but also
reflects on their teaching practices and designed activities in the centre. Educators who have
anxiety of risky play are less likely to incorporate risky play in their curriculum and they may
intervene in children's free play if risky play is found in free play (Gunderson, Ramirez, Beilock
& Levine, 2013). Accordingly, children generally realize that risky play is not being encouraged in
the class and it is better not to involve in risky play or other obstacle situations. Meanwhile,
children' potential anxiety or other negative emotions towards risky play would be maintained or
even be intensified as their anxiety or other negative emotions of risky play have not been released
but reinforced by educators' negative emotions and instructional behaviors (Brussoni, Olsen, Pike, &
Sleet, 2012). Therefore, educators should understand and realize how their anxiety and other
negative emotions can be transmitted to children and may have some adverse effects on their learning
. Educators who have anxiety in terms of risky play should try to address it and do not avoid
incorporating risky play in the curriculum. They should be aware that risky play can also allow
children to achieve positive

Drought has already led to significant changes in Australia's agricultural trends. Some farmers are
abandoning rice, which requires large amounts of water, to plant less water–intensive crops like
wheat or, especially in southeastern Australia, wine grapes. Other rice farmers have sold their fields
or their water rights, usually to grape growers. Scientists and economists worry that the reallocation
of scarce water resources – away from rice and other grains and toward more lucrative crops and
livestock – threatens poor countries that import rice as a dietary staple. As we see in this data,
since grape production gives the farmers more profit they are turning to grape production instead
of rice. Things like this are causing rice prices to go up tremendously. Even with the recent
doubling of rice prices, to around $1,000 a metric ton for the high grades produced by Australia, it
is even more profitable to grow wine grapes. 3.Rise in oil prices and effect on food prices Oil prices
have risen exponentially in the last few years and this has had a tremendous effect on the food
prices. Oil prices have increased by more than 4 times in the last 6 years. This means that it costs

The Effects of Rising Sea Levels Essay
The Effects of Rising Sea Levels
Introduction:
Over the last several decades, climate change has evolved from a polarizing discussion to what will
likely be the largest collaborative research project of our generation. While many aspects of climate
change are still misunderstood, there is little debate that the concentration of carbon dioxide in the
atmosphere is rising at an alarming rate. This rise is considered the main cause behind an increase in
global temperature, which has set in motion a chain reaction of climatic events.
Atmospheric carbon impacts the temperature of the Earth because it is a greenhouse gas. When
visible light from the sun heats the surface of the earth, some of the energy is transmitted back
towards the...show more content...
While thermal expansion is difficult to observe on a small scale, such as a glass of water, it can
have a significant impact on a massive volume of water such as the combined oceans of the world.
Melting land ice, the other major factor in the sea–level rise, is a more straightforward issue. As
global temperature increases, land–based glaciers and ice will melt sooner and accumulate later.
Naturally, this runoff will lead to an increase in the total amount of water in the ocean.
The combination of these and other trends was an estimated average sea–level increase of 1.5mm
per year between 1961 and 2003, which reached 2.4mm per year in the decade from 1993 to 2003.
The decades prior to this trend showed only minor fluctuations in sea–level, suggesting that the
current rate exceeds what could be caused by natural cycles. While the exact impact of rising
oceans is difficult to determine, it is certain that the consequences will include some degree of
flooding, integration of salt water into water tables, and a loss of land due to coastal erosion and
submersion.6
Hypothesis:
Decades of research suggest that sea–levels are rising, and will continue to rise as a result of climate
change. This rise will have the most immediate and significant impact on

As a person lets the cool rain wash over them, a feeling of renewal and cleanliness is created.
Depression rates skyrocket during the dark and dreary seasons. This condition is known as Seasonal
Affective Disorder. About 5–percent of adults in the United States live with this condition. The loss
of sunlight and increase of poor weather – snow, rain, wind– contribute to the severity of the
disorder. During the fall and winter months, it often rains. This is one contributing factor to SAD.
Although rain can be light and happy, it can also be extremely harsh. Thunderstorms are often
present during heavy rainstorms. The electric flashes of light bring about nothing but fear; the
pounding rain only intensifies the storm. It is easy to see why the mere sight of rain depresses
some people. When rain is mentioned, I think of light ecstatic sprinkling. However, because of
the different experiences each individual has, the opposite conclusion could be made. Rain drops
strongly resemble teardrops. Because of this astounding resemblance, a connection between sad
teardrops and rain is made. During a rain storm, the sky is not clear and blue; it is murky and gray.
Colors have feelings associated with them. Blue is happy and bubbly while gray is sad and dull. A
depressed person will take a quick look at the rain and jump back in their beds.

Real Madrid Football Club I decided to type my essay about Real Madrid who was voted the most

Risk Taking Essay
Khendee Casallo
Humanities 151
Do you feel that taking genuine risks in life is necessary in order for us to be happy? Can people
find fulfillment and happiness in life by playing it safe and not courting any trouble or hardship from
taking chances?
The word "risk" means the possibility of suffering a harmful event. Risk taking can bring either
positive or negative result because anytime we take risks in life, there is a possibility of loss which
can cause tension. There are a lot of people who take big risks and appear not to be affected by
them. But, many of us feel very uneasy when faced with risk–taking; we may become worried about
the risk. Although some people are content in life by just playing it safe and not courting any...show

It's the challenge itself that people learn from. There isn't any point to making things a challenge
for no good reason so it's about taking on the right challenges and calculating risks to a point that
justifies them when compared to the challenge that is faced to accomplish them. Truth be told, it
was a challenged for me to take that risk and slide down the tube tunnel and I did not regret doing
so because I know at that point thats what I wanted. If it hadn't been for that challenge, I wouldn't
be able to see what I am capable of doing.
Taking risks is done with some purpose in mind as well. There isn't any point in taking risks that
don't pay off. There are hundreds of things that require risks in order to make them happen.
Innovation is a big one of those. Innovation is when you look for new ways of doing things,
building things or perhaps new ideas. This requires breaking new ground that no one has done
before and so there are always risks involved. People who are hesitant to take risks will become
stagnant with no ability to innovate or change for there is no such thing as constant in this world,
there are always going to be changes and new invention coming up.
When we were young we really didn't understand what risks were, we just did things as we saw fit
to do them. Sometimes as older individuals we need to take risks as we did when were young.
Instead of the over analyzing and the procrastination sometimes we just have to look

I've loved art and graphic design for a long time, however, anything above simple crafts were not
valued at my elementary or middle school. So, eager to be in an environment that supported my
interests I auditioned and was accepted into Los Angeles County High School for the Arts
(LACHSA). At LACHSA I explored many different types of art mediums, and discovered
satisfaction from the problem solving that goes with designing and making sculptures. My interest
in graphic design also was able to thrive in the environment, outside of class I able to make posters
for school productions, which lead to design jobs outside of the school. While taking a
communication design class I discovered my passion for product–based design: I enjoyed creating a

I value that each major has a specific building, which is equipped with necessary tools as well as
individual workspaces. Also intriguing is the strict curriculum after the foundation year, diving into
our major and learning the basics such as proper drafting and technical skills, as well as quickly
establishing hands on experience and developing safe and proper practices in wood and metal
working. I see myself taking advantage of RISD's partnership with Brown University: I find value in
knowledge, not only to understand the world better, but also to inform my art.
While I'm not sure where I will be with my abilities upon graduation, I would like to leave the
school with a professional portfolio that demonstrates what I had learned during my time at RISD.
In this portfolio I would like to demonstrate a high proficiency in conceptual thinking, the ability
to produce fine rendered technical drawings, as well as my model making skills. I don't expect,
nor do I think its possible, to graduate with nothing left to learn, however, I hope at the end of my
four years I will be prepared to continue my education through real–world job

  • 1. Year End Reflection Essay Year End Reflection 2016 When I think of grade 8, I think of all the sports I play and how much I developed as a student athlete from the beginning of the year to now. Why sports comes to mind when I think of grade 8 is because this would be the year where I'm transitioning from grade 8 to high school, which means I will have to start taking sports more seriously, because in high school sports, for example, in football you have to be really good, and you can't depend on being a "good athlete' because when you get to the next level of playing football (high school) everyone is a good athlete, and you start to realize that being athletic will only take you so far. My main sport that I play is football. I started playing football when I was 11, when I started I was pretty good. I was playing at a position lots of players wanted to play, linebacker, and I didn't really take it to my advantage because I know anything about football, but as that season went on I started getting better at my position, but the following year, I was played at a different position because the kids we were playing with were a year older than me, that's when I realized if I wanted to be a good player, I had to try, and that is when I really started developing in football, the...show more content... I developed a lot of skills this year, coming in as a kid who didn't take his school work seriously, I learned that school really does matter and I will need school if I want to do anything in life. This year specifically also taught me a lot of skills that I could use in high school like time management and being able to control myself when I have freedom in school. This year also taught me skills I didn't know I had, like if I separate myself from my friends I could complete lots of work without the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Radiologic Technologist Admission Essay My mother always reminded me how education is the most important tool which I can use to improve myself and my community. After obtaining my undergraduate degree in geography in the late nineties, I later moved to the United States a year later to peruse a master degree in computer sciences. After arriving in the US, I learned that life was not as easy as I thought. I could not afford the tuition, paying my bills and taking care of my family. I later dropped out of school to work some low paying jobs in order to save money to continue my education. After several years of contemplating what to study, I enrolled in a community college to continue my education in radiologic technology. As an undergraduate student I developed a huge passion for computers, I took some...show more content... I was hired as a radiographer in a local hospital. I gained a lot of clinical experiences in the healthcare setting. I fell in love with job, I enjoyed helping people. This gave me an opportunity to meet people and be compassionate about the sick. After a few years of working as a radiographer, I took some more certification courses and exams in computed Tomography (CT scan) and Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) which boosted my skills and knowledge as a radiologic technologist. Because of my love for information technology, I took a course and exam in medical imaging informatics and was certified as an imaging informatics professional (CIIP). With my experience and knowledge, I was promoted to the position of coordinator and in charge of imaging informatics (PACS administrator). Under the tutelage of my Director, I learned valuable leadership skills. I began doing some training and administrative duties coupled with intermittent clinical work. This position has also awakened my desire to pursue my graduate education and acquire a solid background I so desire to shape my interest in healthcare and computer Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. How My Parents Raised Me How My Parents Raised Me As far as I can remember I have had a happy childhood. I don't have a dramatic or a traumatic experience as to how my parents raised me like most of the other kids. My parents handled my wrongdoings and mistakes very calmly, although I can't remember doing something that's very bad. I guess you could say that I'm spoiled but I don't think I am. Being an only child I think helped on making my punishments not that painful. But how my parents raised me is what made me the person that I am today, and I think they did a great job. No, my parents were never pushing or demanding what I should do or become. My first 4 years of life, it was just traveling, since I was just two months old. I am lucky in many ways. I was born...show more content... Make sure that the weakest have their share. If someone has a hard time, do not put the person more down. Help the weak. Plant trees or flowers; do anything what makes surroundings more beautiful. Not only me, but everybody around my father, has been learning these facts of life. Even my mom, she became totally devoted to our pet dogs. These things and more have been my guiding ropes these nearly 19 years of my life. Since I was in kinder, I was never pushed or forced to study, or to be the best or even second best. I was taught to be fair and independent. For my parents, any level of test grades was good. I was never told to become an engineer, nurse or a doctor. Choice was trusted on me. My parents said: Be you, because the future is yours, we just try our best to give a nice path and a little push for your starting journey in life. Here again, I been lucky, no demanding and no pressure. I have been taught to make my own decisions and to stick with them. That is maybe the greatest thing in my upbringing, loving and trusting parents, whom been treating me as equal, not just like a kid. Anything and everything was and is discussed in the dinner table or any given time when we are together. Raspberry Pi Literature Review CHAPTER 2 Literature Review 2.1Introduction The main purpose of this chapter is to study about the existing machine available, the design and make comparison with Fish Feeder using Raspberry Pi. 2.2Existing systems 2.2.1Automatic Fish Feeder Controlled by an AtTiny85 This machine was created by Michael Braverman on 2012 to feed his fish when he not at home. This machine uses a pair of HTX 500 Micro Servos and ATTiny85 that is been programmed by Arduino. The food is distributed when the bottle cap bumps the bottle flapper and release the food. The food will fall to the cap as shown on the picture below. It will later rotate back to the tank before slowly disperse the food. The advantages of this device are it easy to make and programmed. ...show more content... He then created this machine by using Arduino and a stepper motor driver chip. The food is being placed inside a small Tupperware bin, where the drill bit inside the Tupperware slowly pushes the food out of the container, avoiding the food from being stuck. There are an AC timer unit that controls how often the Arduino is powered on and subsequently feeds the fish. Figure 2.4: The "All in One Box" Aquarium Feeder using Arduino Problems with the "All in One Box" Aquarium Feeder using Arduino The problems of this machine are the user had to program the machine using the AC timer and if the timer is broken, the fish cannot be fed. It also had the possibility of tampering as the additional volt of the timer can speed up the motor. This can cause the food being dispersed twice the amount of the food needed and cause overfeeding. 2.3Comparison of Technology Between Three Existing Systems Table 2.1: Comparison of Technology between Three Existing Systems Automatic Fish Feeder Controlled by an AtTiny85 Raspberry Pi Remote Fish Tank ControlThe "All in One Box" Aquarium Feeder using Arduino Targeted UserSuitable for home users who out of the city or too busy to feed their fish Suitable for home users who out of the city or too busy to feed their Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 6. Stalins Rise To Power Essay Question: How far did Stalin achieve and maintain what Kruchev described as "the accumulation of immense and limitless power", in the USSR between 1924 and 1945? Between 1924 and 1945, Joseph Stalin was able to emerge as the leader of the USSR and maintain what Kruchev described as "the accumulation of immense and limitless power". Stalin's rise to power was a combination of his ability to manipulate situations and the failure of others to prevent him from taking power, especially Leon Trotsky. Stalin ruled theUSSR from 1929 until his death in 1953. His rule was one of tyranny, a great change from the society that his predecessor,Lenin, had envisioned. During his time of reign, Stalin put into effect two self–proclaimed "five–year ...show more content... Also, Stalin was much more involved with the base of the Party and was thought to have worked hard to get himself to the top. Meanwhile, Trotsky was seen as a man trying to push his way in. Further damaging Trotsky, Lenin described him as possessing "...excessive self–confidence... and overly attracted by the purely administrative aspects of affairs..." Even though he unintentionally projected Trotsky in this way, Lenin felt that if the removal of Stalin were not acted upon, the conflict between Trotsky and Stalin would intensify, which would jeopardize the whole Party. Combined with the Testament, Trotsky could have used the Postscript to obtain power, but instead Stalin squashed it in the Central Committee. Once eliminating Trotsky, Stalin's idea of, "socialism in our country," inevitably meant that Russia needed strength. The productions in the USSR had almost reached pre–war levels by the mid–1920s, but the population of Russia had also increased by 20 million people. No matter, Stalin assured that maximum efforts and resources would be given to the expansion and strengthening of Russia herself rather than an effort to start a revolution elsewhere. This is explained in his famous 1931 speech, gaining power for himself. The people had nowhere else to turn to and needed a leader. Stalin was there and knew what to do to make the people interested in his ideas, thus acquired their trust and control. From these ideas, he created his first Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. The rise of the West refers to a period of time when Western Europe rose to power due to many environmental, political, and social factors. Many historians attribute the Rise of the West to the time period of 1450 to 1850. This power surge of Western Europe has been attributed to the global dominance of Western Europe and America in the 21 century. The interesting aspect regarding the Rise of the West is how Western Europe developed so differently from other parts of the world, leading it to be the superpower of the world. Over the past 50 years, the idea of the rise of the West has been closely re–examined. Prior to the 1950s, historians believed that the rise of the West occurred because it was destined to; because Europe is the best and...show more content... By defining economics as the most important aspect of the rise in power of the West, Frank also defined when the importance of global economy came to be. Many historians and economist have stated that the global economic system occurred after the Rise of the West; Frank disagrees. Frank believes that the world economy has been occurring since 1500s in the form of global trading. "A single global world economy with a worldwide division of labor and multilateral trade from 1500 onward" (pg.7). Frank's notion that economics is the driving force behind the Rise of the West is correct in the fact that economy is a major force behind all innovations and advancements. A country cannot advance if it does not have the money to research and better its technologies, culture, and society. Frank's notion of a single world economy is also correct in the fact that trading between Asia, Africa, and Europe does define a global economic system. What Frank lacks in his idea of the Rise of the West is his unwillingness to accepting innovative culture as a driving force behind the Rise of the West. What Frank lacked in the idea of culture in the Rise of the West is given credit for by David Landes. Landes believes the Rise of the West occurred mainly because of European's innovative culture after 1000 C.E. that led it to transform world power during the Industrial Revoltion. • 8. Nicole Kada Philip Broster Business Communications 27 April 2012 Research Proposal What is the Impact of Stress on University Students Academic Performance? 1. EXPLANATION OF RESEARCH TOPIC 1.1 Purposes of Research Topic Newth (2011) claims that modern day stress seems to be more widespread than ever causing interference with human intellect, emotional and interpersonal functioning. Therefore; I suggest that students will encounter stress and it will impact their academic performance. In this fast pace and performance driven society each organization needs well performing people. The only way we will know what people require to become productive and less stressed is to explore topics as my research question. The topic...show more content... Which collects the health statistics of students from universities all around the world every second year, reported that 40.2 percent of Santa Clara University students identified that stress affected their individual academic performance during the last 12 months of their studies (Temple,2011). Temple (2011) reported a survey conducted in 2004 that assessed the overall well–being of 47,202 undergraduates nationwide. The findings were that 32.4 percent of students recognized stress as the main obstacle to their academic performance. This was said to be above the common cold, depression, death of a relative, sexual assault and eating disorders. Stress is "once considered as the nation's number one health epidemic; prolonged stress can lead to ulcers, heart disease, stroke, major depression and to a shorter life span" (Temple, 2011). Based on these findings from research done previously I feel that this study is important. Firstly, we need to understand what causes the stressors and how it affects the individual. For example, if you have an entire university with stressed students, not being productive, not performing well academically perhaps thinking of dropping out of university because of the overwhelming anxiety; it can be detrimental to the institution in terms of status and students in terms of individual realisation. Secondly, we soon have to formulate effective and efficient stress management guidelines as we Get more content on HelpWriting.net

According to "types of depression" published by iFred.org more than 350 million people suffer from depression disorder. There are many ways to treat depression, such as SNRI's, MAIO's, TCA's or with monitored usage, marijuana. The most common today are SSRI's or selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. You may have heard of some of the more common SSRI's such as, Zoloft, Prozac, or Celexa. The use of these medicines are debated among doctors, because they have serious side effects, that can worsen or add symptoms to your illness. Serotonin syndrome is the accumulation of too much serotonin in your body. This can create even worse side effects. Serotonin syndrome is very dangerous and can be fatal if not treated. • 10. RISD Personal Statement I currently attend the Rhode Island School of Design, a prestigious art and design institution, majoring in Graphic Design. Having attended RISD for the past two years, I have experienced what is valuable and matured to find out what I want for myself. Simply, I want to pursue a computation /computer science related field upholding values of strong design application. Looking at alumni in relation to my skills and interests, I have assurance that I will do fine, but I don't want to do just fine. As an artist and designer of the 21st century, it is important for me to know and connect the values of technology with design to enhance communication in relation to the current age. Although RISD is a great institution, it does not offer the specific resources that I want to pursue; I am interested in an environment that can cultivate my passion in other applications whereas RISD is rooted in a more departmental tradition. I believe that in order to have a more complex understanding of one subject, investigating other subjects through a design mindset, would allow me to seek a more passionate advance towards design. Rather than existing in a bubble where art and design were merely conventions to live by, a more integrative approach to design, to see computational knowledge incorporated into the fundamentals of design, and vice versa, is something that I want to contribute to the developing world. Design does not live within an art school but it exists within its application. Thus, I want to transfer to an institution that can offer an intersection of design and computation. ...show more content... As children can perceive educators' attitudes and feelings toward risky play, they are evaluating risky play based on educators' opinions and reactions to risky play. Educators' emotions can influence children effectively as their emotions that bring into the class would create a corresponding emotional climate in class and children would be affected by these emotions (Becker, Goetz, Morger & Ranellucci, 2014). According to Neville's interview with Stephanie, she suggested that educators' negative emotions to risky play can be instilled in children's minds (Dwyer, 2016). Through educators verbal expression such as "It is scary", "You should not do that at all",...show more content... Moreover, educators' anxiety of risky play not only reflects on children's risky play, but also reflects on their teaching practices and designed activities in the centre. Educators who have anxiety of risky play are less likely to incorporate risky play in their curriculum and they may intervene in children's free play if risky play is found in free play (Gunderson, Ramirez, Beilock & Levine, 2013). Accordingly, children generally realize that risky play is not being encouraged in the class and it is better not to involve in risky play or other obstacle situations. Meanwhile, children' potential anxiety or other negative emotions towards risky play would be maintained or even be intensified as their anxiety or other negative emotions of risky play have not been released but reinforced by educators' negative emotions and instructional behaviors (Brussoni, Olsen, Pike, & Sleet, 2012). Therefore, educators should understand and realize how their anxiety and other negative emotions can be transmitted to children and may have some adverse effects on their learning . Educators who have anxiety in terms of risky play should try to address it and do not avoid incorporating risky play in the curriculum. They should be aware that risky play can also allow children to achieve positive Get more content on HelpWriting.net

FAO Food Price Index: February 2007 – January 2008 Source FAO, 2008 In this project, we attempt to find out the causes for this price rise, the trends of the rise and the effects that this rise has had on us. Causes: 1.High demand for food in developing countries: The growing world population is demanding more and different kinds of food. Rapid economic growth in many developing countries has pushed up consumers' purchasing power, generated...show more content... Drought has already led to significant changes in Australia's agricultural trends. Some farmers are abandoning rice, which requires large amounts of water, to plant less water–intensive crops like wheat or, especially in southeastern Australia, wine grapes. Other rice farmers have sold their fields or their water rights, usually to grape growers. Scientists and economists worry that the reallocation of scarce water resources – away from rice and other grains and toward more lucrative crops and livestock – threatens poor countries that import rice as a dietary staple. As we see in this data, since grape production gives the farmers more profit they are turning to grape production instead of rice. Things like this are causing rice prices to go up tremendously. Even with the recent doubling of rice prices, to around $1,000 a metric ton for the high grades produced by Australia, it is even more profitable to grow wine grapes. 3.Rise in oil prices and effect on food prices Oil prices have risen exponentially in the last few years and this has had a tremendous effect on the food prices. Oil prices have increased by more than 4 times in the last 6 years. This means that it costs four–times as much to plant, irrigate, harvest and transport as it was six years ago. 4.Policy effects Many countries are taking steps to try to minimize the Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 14. The Effects of Rising Sea Levels Essay The Effects of Rising Sea Levels Introduction: Over the last several decades, climate change has evolved from a polarizing discussion to what will likely be the largest collaborative research project of our generation. While many aspects of climate change are still misunderstood, there is little debate that the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is rising at an alarming rate. This rise is considered the main cause behind an increase in global temperature, which has set in motion a chain reaction of climatic events. Atmospheric carbon impacts the temperature of the Earth because it is a greenhouse gas. When visible light from the sun heats the surface of the earth, some of the energy is transmitted back towards the...show more content... While thermal expansion is difficult to observe on a small scale, such as a glass of water, it can have a significant impact on a massive volume of water such as the combined oceans of the world. Melting land ice, the other major factor in the sea–level rise, is a more straightforward issue. As global temperature increases, land–based glaciers and ice will melt sooner and accumulate later. Naturally, this runoff will lead to an increase in the total amount of water in the ocean. The combination of these and other trends was an estimated average sea–level increase of 1.5mm per year between 1961 and 2003, which reached 2.4mm per year in the decade from 1993 to 2003. The decades prior to this trend showed only minor fluctuations in sea–level, suggesting that the current rate exceeds what could be caused by natural cycles. While the exact impact of rising oceans is difficult to determine, it is certain that the consequences will include some degree of flooding, integration of salt water into water tables, and a loss of land due to coastal erosion and submersion.6 Hypothesis: Decades of research suggest that sea–levels are rising, and will continue to rise as a result of climate change. This rise will have the most immediate and significant impact on Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Essay about Rain Stepping outside, I instantly notice the fresh, wet scent of earth. As I continue walking, I willingly allow the sprinkling droplets to envelop my entire body. My shoes are soon soaked; with each step I take, I feel a puddle of water move beneath my feet. The rain hurls itself violently on the dark, slippery pavement. My hair is dripping with ice–cold raindrops which plummet to the earth with every movement I make. The numbing effect of the icy downpour is finally setting in. Fierce thunder clouds sneak into the murderous sky and flashing lightning strikes begin. The rain falls faster and heavier. My feet move quickly as I run down the road. I rush into my house and proceed to stare out the window and observe the vicious storm that is only...show more content... As a person lets the cool rain wash over them, a feeling of renewal and cleanliness is created. Depression rates skyrocket during the dark and dreary seasons. This condition is known as Seasonal Affective Disorder. About 5–percent of adults in the United States live with this condition. The loss of sunlight and increase of poor weather – snow, rain, wind– contribute to the severity of the disorder. During the fall and winter months, it often rains. This is one contributing factor to SAD. Although rain can be light and happy, it can also be extremely harsh. Thunderstorms are often present during heavy rainstorms. The electric flashes of light bring about nothing but fear; the pounding rain only intensifies the storm. It is easy to see why the mere sight of rain depresses some people. When rain is mentioned, I think of light ecstatic sprinkling. However, because of the different experiences each individual has, the opposite conclusion could be made. Rain drops strongly resemble teardrops. Because of this astounding resemblance, a connection between sad teardrops and rain is made. During a rain storm, the sky is not clear and blue; it is murky and gray. Colors have feelings associated with them. Blue is happy and bubbly while gray is sad and dull. A depressed person will take a quick look at the rain and jump back in their beds. It seems like in every good love story there is always a passionate kissing scene. • 16. Real Madrid Essay Real Madrid Football Club I decided to type my essay about Real Madrid who was voted the most successful club in the 20th century. This award doesn't come easy. Real Madrid has 31 La Liga titles, 18 Spanish Cups, 8 Super Cups, 1 Cope Eva Duarte, 1 Cope del la Liga, a record 9 UEFA Champion Leagues, 2 UEFA Cups, 1 UEFA Super Cup and 3 Intercontinental Cups. That's a lot to bargain for. The name Real Madrid comes from real meaning "Royal" and Madrid being the city in Spain they're franchise is at. This club was founded in 1902 and since then has never been relegated from La Liga (the top league of soccer in Spain). But all these wins and cups can't come without a rival. Real Madrid's most notable rival is Barcelona with matches between the...show more content... He has the nickname "The Special One" because he is widely regarded as one of the best soccer coaches in the game. He started out a player but was unable to produce a meaningful career so that is when he looked into management. Since then, it seemed like it was his birth right; to coach the game of soccer. In 2010, he was appointed to coach Real Madrid signing a four year contract. Before then, he had won cups and titles such as Primeira Liga, Taca de Portugal and the UEFA cup in 2003 with Porto. It couldn't get any better. His first honouring appearance with Real Madrid is when he led his team to win the 2011 Copa Del Rey Final; it was the team's first victory concerning that title since 1993. The club's first team squad at the moment is made up of a strong role of defenders: Ricardo Carvalho, Pepe, Sergio Ramos (vice–captain), and Marcelo (vice–captain). The team's mid–fielders are based off of: Nuri Sahin, Sami Khedira, Kaka, Mesut Ozil and Esteban Granero. The first team's forwards are: Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema. The last and certainly not least is the goal keeper who is too the captain of the team, Iker Casillas. If you don't know soccer and what is good and what's not, let's just say this is a great first string team. As of today, September 15th, 2011; Real Madrid is currently in first place playing two and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Risk Taking Essay Khendee Casallo Humanities 151 Do you feel that taking genuine risks in life is necessary in order for us to be happy? Can people find fulfillment and happiness in life by playing it safe and not courting any trouble or hardship from taking chances? The word "risk" means the possibility of suffering a harmful event. Risk taking can bring either positive or negative result because anytime we take risks in life, there is a possibility of loss which can cause tension. There are a lot of people who take big risks and appear not to be affected by them. But, many of us feel very uneasy when faced with risk–taking; we may become worried about the risk. Although some people are content in life by just playing it safe and not courting any...show more content... It's the challenge itself that people learn from. There isn't any point to making things a challenge for no good reason so it's about taking on the right challenges and calculating risks to a point that justifies them when compared to the challenge that is faced to accomplish them. Truth be told, it was a challenged for me to take that risk and slide down the tube tunnel and I did not regret doing so because I know at that point thats what I wanted. If it hadn't been for that challenge, I wouldn't be able to see what I am capable of doing. Taking risks is done with some purpose in mind as well. There isn't any point in taking risks that don't pay off. There are hundreds of things that require risks in order to make them happen. Innovation is a big one of those. Innovation is when you look for new ways of doing things, building things or perhaps new ideas. This requires breaking new ground that no one has done before and so there are always risks involved. People who are hesitant to take risks will become stagnant with no ability to innovate or change for there is no such thing as constant in this world, there are always going to be changes and new invention coming up. When we were young we really didn't understand what risks were, we just did things as we saw fit to do them. Sometimes as older individuals we need to take risks as we did when were young. Instead of the over analyzing and the procrastination sometimes we just have to look Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Life is short, do as many things as you can to live a happy life and do all the things you aspire to do before time runs out. One evening while I was on vacation visiting my grandparents we were sitting around the dinner table eating a homemade meal made by my grandma. It was my mom, my sister, my foreign exchange student, two of my good friends, and I all eating dinner together. Dinner had come to an end and one of my friends and I were still sitting at the table with my grandpa. Even being an average person can be very difficult. If you look at a large amount of people in this world, they are average or below average in most things they do. No one can be good at everything, so don't ever think you have to be. Feeling pressured to be great at everything is one thing no one should ever have to go through. All it seems to do is tear down people's' self esteem creating more reserved and quiet people. Life is hard, and if it were meant to be easy, everyone would be good at everything and the majority of things would be meaningless. So, what would be the point of living a meaningless life? • 19. Risd Personal Statement I've loved art and graphic design for a long time, however, anything above simple crafts were not valued at my elementary or middle school. So, eager to be in an environment that supported my interests I auditioned and was accepted into Los Angeles County High School for the Arts (LACHSA). At LACHSA I explored many different types of art mediums, and discovered satisfaction from the problem solving that goes with designing and making sculptures. My interest in graphic design also was able to thrive in the environment, outside of class I able to make posters for school productions, which lead to design jobs outside of the school. While I'm not sure where I will be with my abilities upon graduation, I would like to leave the school with a professional portfolio that demonstrates what I had learned during my time at RISD. In this portfolio I would like to demonstrate a high proficiency in conceptual thinking, the ability to produce fine rendered technical drawings, as well as my model making skills. I don't expect, nor do I think its possible, to graduate with nothing left to learn, however, I hope at the end of my four years I will be prepared to continue my education through real–world job Get more content on HelpWriting.net
