74. MachineShop is an API-centric IoT platform
company that simplifies the way organizations
access, understand, and act upon real world events
in real time.
Founded in 2012, Emerged from stealth mode 2014,
Moved HQ to Denver this year
Unlike traditional platforms, MachineShop is
comprised of a collection of hundreds of RESTful
APIs represented as services that developers
choose from – like building blocks – to create and
integrate applications and solutions
Uniquely focused on bridging IT & OT and exposing
sources of data from connected systems, assets,
events and business processes.
75. The IoT Paradox
• Tens of Billions of IP-enabled things
• Trillions of data transactions
• Petabytes of real-time data
• Thousands of data silos
• Hundreds of protocols
• Dozens of networks
• Huge opportunity
• Bigger challenge

80. Summary
• MachineShop creates, aggregates and manages services
that simplify the way organizations and developers interact
with devices, data, events and networks in a hyper-
connected world.
• These services fall into 3 categories:
Data services
Business Logic services
Management Services
• Services are exposed to developers and their applications
as standard REST APIs. This significantly reduces the time,
cost, and complexity of IoT application development and
systems integration

Hi everyone, I’m Brett, co-founder and CEO of Notion. And we’re changing everything your home is capable of.
We’re aware of so many things in our lives these days, but, why is your home not aware of anything at all?
At Notion, we’ve moved far beyond expensive and outdated home security systems
And complex do-it-yourself options with multiple, single-use devices.
Due to high cost and complexity, only 15% of homes in the US have a security system and only 13% of people have an IoT device. Notion is inexpensive, easy to use and makes your home truly aware!
Placing just one of these little devices on your door tells you if it opens, but it can also tell you the temperature of your entryway, if a light is left on , if a smoke alarm goes off nearby. Notion can also be used to monitor liquor cabinets, gun safes, water leaks, garage doors and more.
Installing notion is simple. Plug our bridge into any outlet.
Pair sensors using our app and attach them to any surface or object...and you’re done!
Then you, a family member or a neighbor receives alerts via text, email or push notifications.
There are three ways we make money:
We sell our hardware. For just $199, you get three sensors and a bridge.
2) We have optional monthly fees for additional features like cellular backup.
And then there’s our data.
This Big Household Data we’re collecting is extremely valuable to a number of businesses like insurance companies and large property owners.
We know the opportunities for Notion are massive. As a young company, we’ll effectively reach our customers through a focused channel strategy. We’re currently in beta, and will launch in two months. We’ve been pre-selling on our own website and will continue to sell direct. In addition, we recently launched on Amazon’s Launchpad.
We’re starting paid pilots next month with 4 multi-family property managers that manage 22,000 properties. We’ll spearhead this opportunity by focusing on water leak and temperature detection to start, we’ll then expand into apartments giving tenants connected units and will eventually have a marketing channel to tenants moving into their own homes.
We’re starting pilots with a number of insurance companies focused on both individuals and multi-family properties. Insurance companies would give individuals a discount on their homeowners or renters insurance for installing Notion. And here’s an interesting thought...what if a multi-family owner could make money installing Notion? They could collect a small monthly fee from tenants for connected units AND get a discount on their own insurance for installing Notion to protect their buildings.
And finally, just like Intel Inside, Notion has the opportunity to partner and eventually integrate with other product manufacturers. We already have a partnership with the second largest gun safe company in the US for a co-branded product. This Trojan horse strategy will allow us to upsell gun safe owners more sensors for other home uses after their initial purchase.
Notion has 11 passionate, full-time employees that have impressive track records.
And we’ve proven we can execute. We closed a seed round earlier this year led by Draper Nexus.
We were in Techstars last summer.
We’re manufacturing our final hardware in Colorado to start to ensure quality...
And are in talks with these global leaders to help with overseas manufacturing next year.
We’re patent pending on a number of features and have leading IP council that worked on the Nest patent portfolio.
Thank you all so much and I look forward to meeting many of you this afternoon!
