Why Should Homework Be Banned?
Why Should Homework Be Banned?
Are you a student who does not like the idea of homework? Well what a coincidence, I am one too!
Did you know that homework is given to students by teachers every day because they think that it
will help them learn better as well as getting more practice, but in reality homework just affects a
child's learning in a negative way. According to, "Trent International", homework is a waste of time
since the students' do not have someone to help them solve the problems and guidance to make sure
it is correct, the students are just practicing bad habits and learning how to do problems with wrong
answers. Also, the students sit all day at school doing work without any exercise , then get home by
the time they finish then they have to go to bed. Where is the time for activities? Something else
would be the grading on the homework it doesn't really show the students understanding of the
concept. It is an improper tool when wanting to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Secondly, homework can cause for a student to get in trouble at home because they have to do
homework, but at the same time does chores that they are being told to do, so they try to finish
homework first by the time they get done it's too late to do chores. Thirdly, students turn in their
homework to their teacher and they are anxiously to see what they got to see if they can fix or ask
why they made that grade, but by the time the teacher finishes grading they have moved on onto a
new topic and there is no point because sometimes the teachers tell them it's too late to ask, they
should have asked earlier for help and it is not their

Good Debate Topics
Bored of the same old debate topics repeated and reiterated at every competition? Here are a few
good debate topics that you can choose from for the next time you organize a debate.
As a student, one topic which I remember always making the rounds of the debating circuit was,
does violence in television and movies influence the way children behave? By the end of my
learning years, I was sure that I had heard every argument that could have been made about the
topic. After all, how many examples can you give from television and how many instances of
juvenile delinquency can you cite that resulted from watching a violent film? Yes, violence has
permeated the media but can we for once stop making it the staple fodder for ... Show more content

Recycling should be compulsory. God: myth or reality? Sex education – when is the right time to

Good Debate Topics for College Students

themselves in a concise and intelligent manner. Given below are a few informative speech topics for
college students. Evolution or creation: how did human beings come about? Nuclear proliferation:
will development of nuclear weapons fuel a third world war? Quarter life crisis is the new midlife
crisis? Is the world going to end in 2012? US military involvement in Iraq has done more good than
harm. Is co–habitation the replacement for marriage? Human cloning should be allowed. Will there
be another Holocaust? Do newborn babies remembers their past life? Media consolidation: pros and
cons. Should same–sex partners have the same rights as heterosexuals? Are we overworking

Cyclonenetwork Case Study
1)Why do you believe you should be part of the staff team for CycloneNetwork? Being staff on any
server is a big responsibility. I would like to be staff because I know that I am familiar with most, if
not all, of the commands. If there are some commands I would have to learn, I would be happy to
learn them. I want to be a Helper in order to help the Cyclone community be a safe place, one where
each player can experience a fun time without being offended, insulted or hurt in any way.
With that being said, I don't want to give unfair punishments to players. No matter if the player is

Persuasive Essay : Why Homework Should Be Banned For...
Most people would agree that homework takes a lot of time after school and out of their daily lives.
7 hours of the 24 hour day are spent on school. Then including, the average amount of hours spent
on homework everyday which is 3.5. That equals 10 hours of the 12–18 hours students are awake in
the day. Additionally, an average student gets about 7 hours of sleep each night, when scientists have
proven that teens need at least 9 hours. There are simple and easy solutions to these problems, one is
to take away homework for students. This would help issues like, no sleep, bad grades, cheating, not
being with family enough and more! 79% of the people that took the debate.org quiz thought that
homework should be banned. This survey included teachers, students, and parents. There are many
students that do sports or after school activities and have not a lot of time for homework. Nearly 6
out of 10/ 57% students do after school activities. As a personal experience, I know that I have cheer
practice most nights for two hours each. This leaves only a tiny amount of time I can spend on
homework, concluding in me having to stay up later to finish it all. The time you spend on
homework each night, could be spent on getting exercise or spending time with people to become
better human beings or getting greater social skills. If kids are always busy, they don't get enough
sleep. Too much homework also could cause bad grades or kids to attempt to cheat on tests because

Why Homework Should Be Banned
This issue of after school punishment children are forced to do is getting out of hand. Many people
are swayed in their opinions if schools should be allowed to give out homework, or work you would
do out of the classroom. Schools should be banned from handing out homework for many reasons
where this is just three of them. A school district in Tennessee banned homework because some kids
do not have the resources at home to complete homework. Another reason is it will bring grades up
because being out of the classroom gives people many opportunities to cheat which causes grades to
drop because they aren't learning the material, whereas if the work was done in class these kids
wouldn't be able to cheat and it would make them learn it. Others may argue that it will give the kids
less practice which will bring their grades down where that is not necessarily true. Some children
that are less fortunate than others sometimes do not have the same opportunities that other children
do have which is cause for them not getting their homework completed. There are many children
that get free or reduced lunches because of their family's average annual income level or how many
children of the same in–home family go to that school or school district. A school district in
Tennessee banned homework because the administrators decided that, "Anywhere between 65%–
75% of each school's student body qualify for free or reduced lunch programs, so it was decided that
students should not be singled

Why Should Homework Be Banned Essay
Argumentative essay: Ban on homework? I'm heading home on a typical wednesday, pretty worn
out from a long day at school and a challenging practice. Its five thirty, and just as I settle down with
a warm drink and intent for relaxation, an urging alarm triggers in my brain. Homework! Each day,
beginning around six am, looks roughly the same for all students attending school. The routine:
wake, hurry and get ready for school, go to school, spend eight hours in six different classes, go
home, and complete the work assigned for the night, with, if one is lucky, maybe an hour or so left
in the day for spare time. The workload can be anywhere from an hour, up to six. As a result, lots of
issues stem from this. With many obligations and responsibilities, there need not be any added
turmoil to the already highly demanding life of a teenager. Homework needs to be banned, or at
least more restricted, for the sake of students and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is a question that has been pondered on by students, parents, and teachers alike. The average
workday of a laborer lasts about seven point seven hours, and the school day, generally seven. But,
this does not include the additional average of three hours per day of assignments, study time, and
homework all needing to be completed. This adds up to be around ten total hours of school related
labor. Many holding careers or in the labor force would consider overtime. Furthermore, there are
many other necessary obligations in an adolescents day to day life. Maintaining quality family time,
excelling in a talent of theirs, keeping a healthy social life in tact, and getting adequate sleep are just
a few of these. "Homework can make things challenging for students juggling busy schedules with
after school activities and part time jobs" [five main reasons homework should be banned]. There's

Should Banning Phones Be Allowed In Classrooms?
According to huffingtonpost an average teenager spends over one third of their day on their phones
and kids ages 8–12 also spend nearly 6 hours a day on their smartphones. In addition, non–class
purposes at least 10 times a day. Banning phones also shows respect to the teachers and students
who would not like to be distracted throughout their day in class. In addition to that, in 2015 a
history teacher at Lowell High School quits her job after her frustration with students and their
cellphones. After 20 year of teaching she stated at that texting, tweeting and snapchatting during
class time are "and incredible distraction, and makes it much more difficult to teach." The first

Persuasive Essay On Smoking
Millions of people die each year because of secondhand smoke and smoking. There is nothing good
to say about cigarettes and drugs. It has become a really big problem and it needs to stop it. But
here's the question can we stop it? Cigarettes are just plain out horrible, they contain nicotine which
is a very addictive stimulant that makes you want to keep smoking. Smoking can also lead to lung
cancer and many more consequences, there is more than 650,000 people who die each year because
of the consequences of smoking. Therefore smoking is bad for your health and should be banned.
Smoking has many major horrible effects on lives that you can't take back. For example 16 million
americans are living with diseased caused by smoking. Every person who dies because of smoking,
30 people are living with a smoking illness. Smoking can also lead to lung cancer, cancer, eye
disease, problems with the immune system, and much more. Smoking is the leading cause for
preventable death. Tobacco users cause a average of 6 million deaths a year, and by 2030 will cause
8 million. Cigarette smoking is responsible for more than 480,000 deaths in the United States, and
41,000 deaths resulting secondhand smoke. 1,300 deaths everyday are caused by smoking. Each day
more than 3,200 18 year olds or younger are trying their first cigarette. (Smoking and tobacco)
Not only is smoking bad, but it can also lead to illegal drugs which leads to even worse
consequences. A new study shows that cigarette smoking can be a gateway to illegal drugs. The
study found that people who smoked are 7 times more likely to try marijuana, and cocaine. Also
smokers are 14 times more likely to try crack, and 16 more times likely to try heroin. The evidence
also had age groups that tells what age are people most likely to try illegal drugs after smoking, and
the evidence came out with that people ages up 12 to 15 who smoked cigarettes are 44 more times
likely to use crack. Teens ages 15 who smoked cigarettes are up to 80 times likely to use illegal
drugs than kids who don't smoke. The most likely drug that young smokers would move onto is
cocaine. The number of high schoolers that smoke is going up, and the number of high schoolers
that use cocaine is going up

Argumentative Essay On Homework Should Be Banned
We've all been there, get home and start that night's homework right away. I work for two hours and
it's time for dinner so I take a 30 minute break and then resume homework. Finally the homework is
finished and it's nine o'clock before I have even showered, get ready for the next day, or just relax.
This is all assuming that there are no sports that day or that you have a social life. With all the
schools looking to push start times back an hour or two we go to sleep later that much later and still
don't see our family for more than an hour a day. I have done extensive research on the numerous
harmful effects of homework and the very few pros. I hope to inform you of the problems of

According to assignment expert.com "it's believed homework first began in ancient roman times."
Furthermore homework started out as simple memorization just to keep the mind disciplined, but
slowly became more complex and stressful to the students as it became worth more of a grade and
more difficult. Talking about everything is our strong suit so with a problem as big as homework,
why haven't we discussed it? It needs to be talked about and discussed in depth looking at all the
pros and cons of it. "Have you ever heard a speaker or attended a workshop wherein the negative
effects of homework were highlighted or noted? (Yes = 0 No = 247)" (Gale Group, 17). Those 247
teachers were from different schools in that survey. Teachers are oblivious to what they're doing to
students. No one has talked about what they are assigning, why they assign it, if they don't assign
homework; then how their test scores compare to others of the same subject. Furthermore all
teachers say that homework helps their students comprehend and learn. Upon closer inspection, I
noticed that not one of them has released any facts stating that homework is actually helping their
students over other teachers with less homework. "There is no evidence that any amount of
homework improves the academic performance of elementary–school students" (Scholar Cooper, 5).
Maybe If they talk about homework, then they may be able to come up with facts or percentages;

Cell Phone In School Essay
Today was the day for the last finals, and I was already running late for school. I looked into my bag
for my ID, which I need to get into school. I started to freak out. I pulled out my phone to call my
mom, thank the lord she answered or else I wouldn't be able to go on to my next grade. Imagine if I
wouldn't have had my phone that day? I would be retaking that class and my parents would be
extremely angry with me. So what if? What if phones were banned from schools and I wouldn't be
able to call my parents for emergencies, or use my phone for necessary reasons? This is why I think
that cell phones should not be banned from schools, because they can keep students safe, helping
with good grades, and notes.

Imagine you've just gotten a new job, and it is a needed skill to know how to use your phone for
certain situations, but you don't have basic phone skills because you never got to use your phone
since your school didn't allow phones at school. So it was basically pointless to have a phone at all.
How would phones in school help prepare you for the future? The article, "4 benefits of having
mobile technology in the classroom" says that "mobile devices won't only be a part of our day as
adults, but it will also be an important part of many career paths." Which from what I think, most
career paths that use mobile devices are probably the better paths with more pay. Cell phones can
also teach students responsibility. How? By keeping up on work, they can help by setting reminders
or having an alarm go off to do your homework. Which a piece of paper can't do. Or by teaching
students to know when to listen, and should be off their phone/device. Knowing when the right time
is and won't get their phone taken away. Responsible for the consequences. So maybe you will be

Fidget Spinners Should Be Banned

people claim that these gadgets help people with many things. Some say that these gadgets have

United Kingdom have banned the usage of these gadgets due to the diversions they create and many
injuries have been reported about attempting difficult tricks. The gadgets intentions were to help
ease down those who get tensed easily. It also acts as a treatment for autism. It also was intended to

Should We Get Rid Of Homework?
For Homework Why would we get rid of homework when homework has decades of research
supporting its effective use? Many people say that homework should be banned in schools. On the
other hand most people value homework as I do. I think homework should stay in schools because
homework shows higher achievement, teaches responsibility and, creates time for parents to bond
with their kids. Homework should be kept in schools because homework helps kids reach higher
achievement by extending learning beyond the school day and, increasing their advantages.
According to Marzano, a researcher in education, "...the most important advantage of homework is
that it can enhance achievement by extending learning beyond the school day." This shows that
children who do homework learn more than children who don't because they spend more time doing
work outside of school than other children do. Another way homework helps kids with higher
achievement is that students who don't do their homework will not see any increase in their

College Is More Social Than Academic?
College life more social than academic? Buzz Bissenger opposes for college football to be banned
because it has no academic purpose. He states that due to college football, grades start to drop, large
amount of money is being spent, and activities that does have a high rate of graduating is being
removed. Many students have gone to collage so they can get a higher and better education. What
students don't realize is, college can also be a distraction with a more social life and extracurricular
activities. Activities can be from different types of sports such as football, softball, and baseball to
clubs like dance, drama, and ceramics. In today's society college life has become more about
socialization than education. Due to more socialization activities, students are attending class less.
Priority registration is given to students because of beneficial reasons. Students do not graduate
within the four years as they had planned. College life is more about social than academics. With a
social life students are attending class less, priority registration is given, and the years of graduation
is slowly increasing. Even though a social life can have an upside to academics a college life has

my opinion, I think kids should not have homework. So I'm going to tell you reasons why we
shouldn't have homework. The only reason why we shouldn't have homework is because kids don't
have time to play or have fun with their friends. Also they don't have time to go practice their sports
just because they have a lot of homework to do. Kids are always inside doing homework and they
don't have time to be active at all. Kids don't have time to play with their family. This happens all
the time to kids about homework, they get stressed out.

They believe that homework is ineffective even though there is research that connects better test

also believe that homework takes away from free time. In actuality, homeworks teaches time

Last, and most important, is that studies have not shown that more hours spent on homework leads
to more knowledge. Time spent on homework does not correlate to better test scores. Some students
can spend twice as much time as others and still not do as well. Grades do not necessarily improve
with more hours of homework. In conclusion, homework for high school students is not necessary.
Time is better spent getting exercise, working off stress and interacting with others.
Choose one of the following topics to address in your paper. Be sure to use specific
reasons/examples to support your point. Colorize your rough draft.
1. Many people feel Americans are too concerned with material goods. Think about your opinion on
this issue. Do you feel Americans are too materialistic? Support your opinion.
2. There is much discussion as to whether some video games are responsible for aggressive
behavior. Many adults want violent video games banned. Write a persuasive paper stating whether
you believe that violent video games are responsible for aggressive behavior.

Persuasive Essay On Homework Vs Students
Homework VS Students What would parents think if they found out that homework may do more
damage to students then good? Parents do not know the harm that homework is causing to their kids,
students are sent home every day with hours of homework leaving students with no time to manage
everything they have to do throughout the day. Students go to bed very late at night just to finish up
homework and have to wake up the next day on only a hand full of hours of sleep and then this will
proceed to affect the students academically at school. Homework has numerous of consequences for
students and that is why I believe homework should be banned from certain grade levels as well as
restrictions and policies on homework should be applied. Homework may bring emotional, physical,
and socially damaging to students. Most of the students in the U.S. take multiple classes with
different subjects each school year. Some of these students see their teacher every day or every other
day, this means students are going home every day with homework and that includes weekends.
Students already spend 8 hours a day on weekdays in school and then they also have to go home
with about 2–4 hours of homework. If there are only 24 hours in a day and 8 are spent at school,
another 8 hours sleeping, and about 3 hours of homework that leaves students with 5 hours to eat,
shower, socialize, be involved in extracurricular actives, work for those who need to, and time to
spend with their family. Above all, it is obvious students do not have enough time in the day to
juggle all of this, and that is not counting the students that take bus and arrive home later than other
students. Due to not having enough time through the day students will have to pick and choice how
they spend their hours outside of school, one of the most common things students sacrifice is their
sleep at night and this affects them so bad and they have no idea. According to the research MD
Craig Canapari found "Short sleep makes children obese, sleepiness is a significant cause of
automobile accidents which is the most common cause of death in teenagers, depression, anxiety,
and irritability are all associated with insufficient sleep."(2012 p.1) Another thing students usually

Why Is Homework Harmful
Is homework more destructive than helpful? After a long day of hard work at school, students come
home and have to spend an extra 1–5 hours on their homework. Many students dislike homework
and would be happier if it was gone. What if homework was not only tedious but harmful as well?
Less than 1% of all students claim that homework is not stressful and this may be one of many
reasons that schools should stop giving homework to their students. The government should prevent
schools from giving students homework because it can cause a lot of harm in developing children
by, increasing stress, consuming free time and being counter productive. Some people may argue
that homework does more good than bad but this evidence opposes that opinion.
One of the major reasons as to why homework is unfavorable is because it causes high levels of
stress. Studies "conducted at Stanford University found that students... who spend too much time on
homework experience for stress, physical health problems, a lack of balance in their lives, and
alienation from society." This shows that homework has many negative qualities that are not ...

When students receive too much homework, they start to lose the motivation required to get through
it. This study shows, "U.S. math teachers on average assigned more than two hours of mathematics
homework per week", this means that students get more than 30 minutes of homework from math
everyday, not including the other classes they have. When a student is forced to keep up with such
an excessive amount of homework everyday, they start to lose interest in doing it. Homework has
become something that students groan at the mention of, instead of something that they can use as a
review for their classes, then spend the rest of the day for themselves. This leads back to increased
stress levels and consumption of free time. This is why the government and schools should work to

Homework Should Be Banned Essay
Blowing Out Homework
A boy is sitting at home at the kitchen table, palms sweating, ready to give up, crying about his
homework, stressed about getting it all finished. It is already midnight he has been working on
homework for hours and he still has at least 2 more hours to go. Homework can be beneficial to help
prepare someone in the real world for meeting deadlines. However, on the other hand homework
should be banned in all schools because it causes students to stress out and give up, it takes away
their privilege to participate in afterschool activities, and lastly it also tears them apart from their
families and spending time with them. One reason why homework should be banned in all schools is
because it causes stress on students. "This kid is nervous, he's making himself sick," she said. "It

Should Cell Phones Be Allowed To Be In School?
Cell Phones should be allowed to be in school. From the time cell phones were first invented in
1973, to over thirty years later when the first iPhone was invented in 2007, they have been used as a
tool to help people in countless ways. Cell phones have become a large part of our everyday life and
contain so much information that we can use for educational purposes. I think that cellphones should
be allowed in school because they can be used as a teaching tool, they are easier for the teacher to
handout assignments and lastly, they are good for communicating to a parent or guardian after
school or in between periods. First, they can be a teaching tool if we let them be. My first reason of
this is that they can help with language classes like Spanish or Italian or French, in fact cell phones
help in French class by allowing students to search up words they don't know. Another reason is that
the alarm functions can remind students of tests so they can study or homework ... Show more

Why Should Homework Should Be Banned?
Homework Should Be Banned Late nights, eyes only kept open by ungodly amounts of coffee, and
never ending piles of paper: these are all symptoms of the nation–sweeping homework epidemic.
Students are assigned hours upon hours of after school homework every day – but is it really
necessary? Oftentimes, homework causes more harm than good on the mental, physical, and social
health of students; therefore, after school assignments should be limited to the four core classes,
minimizing those loads as much as possible, because more homework does not necessarily lead to
highly successful students, immense amounts of stress are put on students every day, and an eight
hour school day should be enough to disseminate the information needed. While some teachers
believe that nightly homework is imperative to student achievement, data shows that homework at
any level, from grade school to high school, does not equal success. Many East Asian countries,
including Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Japan had lower average rates of homework, yet ranked very
highly in math. While math homework is usually intended to practice the material learned in class
that day, excessive repetition of the same equations will not make the information stick any more
than a few practice problems. Children study that material they need to know to prepare for test, and
then forget the information once the test is over. Additionally, high homework rates are associated
with countries in lower economic levels and higher

The Pros And Cons Of Banning Books
Books are a part of our society that entertain us through literature by showing us new experiences
and characters that we may relate to or easily might despise due to how they are written, these are
usually found in teen novels, comic books, manga, and many more. Books have also usually taught
us through traditional means by teaching us about history and other things about society and overall
morals we learn at a young age. However, some people have actually taken offense to certain books
due to the content inside the book being "too offensive to them and have asked that these books be
banned while other people want these books to stay. It's a consistent debate of whether certain books

An example of China's actions of this are when the Boston Globe reported that, "Yasin is one of
more than three dozen writers held in prison by the Chinese authorities...In addition, poets,
playwrights, and novelists are imprisoned in Turkey, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, Vietnam, Algeria, Cuba,
Myanmar, and Iran for the crime of writing about how the world appears to them. In a world in
which our destinies are intertwined, in which we need more desperately than ever to know one
another, such censorship hurts us all." Hoffman, R. (2009, 14 Oct.) China is essentially trying to
hide things from the public and not allowing people to speak how they feel about the country by
banning their books and imprisoning them. Therefore, banned books in China are hunted for so
often. And truly, there is no positive side to this view point except maybe with the case of the author
of the book "The Satanic Verses", when the Straits Times reported that, "...the then spiritual leader

writer's death and Rushdie had to spend 10 years of his life in hiding. The fatwa or edict calling for

Cell Phones Should Be Allowed In School
Cell phones have been part of American school culture since the early 1990s. Cell phones in
school,is it a good thing or a bad thing? There are many reasons as to why they are acceptable for
schools and why they are insignificant for schools. Cell phones have become a lifeline. We as a
society have a love hate relationship with them.Sometimes we can't seem to function without
them. This is a reason as to why many people want cell phones banned in schools. Having cell
phones in schools is a great thing but also a bad thing for students to have in class. There are many
reasons why phones should be accepted in schools, here are a couple examples.Students can use their
cell phones for help on wikipedia or just the internet in general. As it says in article #1 "Not only
will the children be in touch with the parents for regular instructions like a pick up point or change
in time etc., but more importantly, they can also feed in emergency numbers like
911,hospitals,relatives,and others."In times like now every child should have a phone so they can
call if an attack happens. If an attack happened and the student doesn't have a phone, how will the
parent know if their child is safe if they have no phone to contact them with to inform them of their
safety. Lastly, from article #3 "More and more students enter our school like Travis Allen who
complain that when they are not allowed to use cell phones for learning, they feel like their teachers
are keeping them prisoners of their past." This shows the pros of having cell phones in schools. The
cons of having cellphones in schools is that they are distractions. Cell phones have
twitter, snapchat, facebook, texting, tumblr, etc. In article #1 "Along with many applications available
on a cell phone, an important one is that of texting. There is no guarantee that a student will not text
during class hours." When students text in class they are losing their concentration on their
academics. Also when the students accidently leave there ringer on and get a phone call or text in
class, it distracts the whole class. Cell phones in school is also a target for prank calls, inappropriate
pictures and videos, using the internet to cheat on tests during class, and jealousy because some may

Homework Should Be Banned
Should schools be allowed to give out homework? Many people are swayed in their opinions of if
schools should be allowed to give out homework or work you would do out of the classroom.
Schools should be banned from handing out homework for many reasons where this is just three of
them. A school district in tennessee banned homework because some kids do not have the resources
at home to complete homework. Another reason is it will bring grades up because being out of the
classroom gives people many opportunities to cheat which causes grades to drop because they aren't
learning the material, whereas if the work was done in class these kids wouldn't be able to cheat and
it would make them learn it. Others may argue that it will give the kids less practice which will
bring their grades down where that is not necessarily true. Some children that are less fortunate than
others sometimes do not have the same opportunities that other children do have which is cause for
them not getting their homework completed. There are many children that get free or reduced
lunches because of their family's average annual income level or how many children of the same in–
home family go to that school or school district. A school district in Tennessee banned homework
because the administrators decided that, "Anywhere between 65%–75% of each school's student

Extracurricular Captivity
Extracurricular Captivity
The survey of 1,000 K–12 teachers found that on average, they assign 3.5 hours of homework each
week. For high school students who typically have seven classes with different teachers, that's
approximately 24.5 hours each week. Students spend approximately 35 hours a week at school and
around 25 hours on homework. This lengthens each school day from around 7 hours to 10 hours.
Now add the time students spend on extracurricular activities and sleep. They are faced with such
packed schedules, and yet we wonder why they are struggling. Homework consumes an excessive

The negative consequences it yields come forth in multitudes. It gives teachers an excuse to not
improve their teaching skills but rather assign homework to make up for squandered class time.
Hours spent on homework leaves students with hardly enough time to spend on extracurricular
activities, personal interests, family gatherings, and sleep. The stress it produces often leads to
depression, physical health problems, unhealthy coping mechanisms such as drugs and alcohol, self
harm, and suicide. An ample amount of research has been done that substantiates homework's
harmful impact towards a child's educational progress and emotional growth, yet it is repeatedly
ignored. For something with such hazardous risks to be viewed as an essential constituent of
education is absurd. Our nation is essentially valuing education before life itself. Teachers should
not be given the ability to deprive children of necessary developmental experiences by assigning
extreme amounts of homework, and parents should not sit around allowing it to happen. In order for
children to become truly educated they need to experience the world and what is has to offer, not be
cooped up in their bedrooms for hours on end completing futile

Students have to use their leisure time in order to do their homework and in that leisure time, some
students may pass their dinner time or even skip their dinner to finish their homework. From that
reason, homework is a health problem and it would be solved with homework banned. Furthermore,
with homework interfering the students physical health, some students must stay up late to finish
their work since there are a lot of subjects' homework to be done which decreases their mental
capacity and thinking. According to an article in 2010 by Alina Saminsky, she said, "Over 50% of

Why I Think All Schools Should Abolish Homework
Homework: It's Better Than You Think In her article "Why I Think All Schools Should Abolish
Homework", Vicky Abeles argues that schools should abolish, if not limit, the amount of homework
given to students because there aren't many proven benefits, and instead will harm students in some
aspects. She backs her argument with the fact that studies have shown there "is no academic benefit
to high school homework" (par. 6 Abeles) after a certain length of time. Students are also not getting
a chance to rest and be healthy, instead they are burdened "with an imbalance of sedentary, academic
tasks" (par. 9 Abeles). Abeles also mentions that schools such as Henry West Laboratory School
have "eliminated mandatory, graded homework for optional assignments" (par. 11 Abeles) and that
other schools should follow, allowing students to be able to "opt out of assignments without penalty"
(par. 18 Abeles) so they can do other activities. The author clearly portrays her opinion that
homework should be abolished, if not limited, due to the possible harmful effects. ... Show more

Why Homework Should Not Be Assigned Essay
Homework has dated back to the beginning of the American education system, and so has the debate
of whether students should do homework or not. Over the years, there have been many different
arguments as to why homework should or should not be assigned. Most of those arguments have
almost always resulted in two main arguments, it takes too much time or it is a necessary
supplement. Opinions on this subject has changed drastically over the years. This can be seen in the
argument from Issues and Controversies, "The crusade against homework was so effective that, in
1901, California banned homework for students under the age of 15, though the state allowed a
limited amount of homework in high school." This was later repealed and during the Cold War era,
homework was important to better understand our country and what it stood for as a way to combat
communism in the US. The Iowa Core sets the standard for learning in Iowa. The core do not say
whether homework should be given or not. Teachers vary when interviewed on whether homework
should be given or not. Some teachers give homework daily while others almost never give out
homework. There is no definitive answer on whether or not homework should be assigned. Some
say it supplements learning while others have actually said that it hurts learning. This is not an easy
topic. To better understand the sides it is important to look at what each side argues. To start this off,
reasons for having homework in school will

weekends I can play for about 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM on weekdays. On weekends I basically play all
day which, but on weekends I am very limited due to the fact that I have homework and finals to
take. In out of all honesty I think of myself to be a very active player. I believe I can contribute
about 10 hours on weekends and 3–4 hours on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One thing I have been banned (Temporarily– banned) on the archon is "IRL TRADE." I think I have
learned from being banned because when I got banned for 3 days. I was really sad because Archon
was my favorite server at the time due to the fact that Factions "Silver" was very competitive.
Another thing I have learned is to not use hacks. I have learned that it just ruins the game for other
players and makes you win games too "easy." Also in addition to that another thing to mention is
that I will not abuse power. Simply because it would be an "Unfair advantage." For example if
someone was using hacks on PVP would that be fun for you? Or another example of abusing would
be choosing to kick your enemies in combat instead of your friends. From the years I have spent
with helpers I have realized how non–biased they are. Abusing would be a very misconceptional
thought. In out of all honesty it would just cause more trouble. For instance if I kicked a player in
combat and took his god–set, I would risk the chance of getting banned. In my opinion hacking or
using non approved mods is very unfair. As an example say in the HCF server I'm playing on
someone was using a Auto Clicker to kill me. After all he's using those mods/hacks to his
enjoyment. He has no respect to our enjoyment and no respect to us. That is what unfair is in my
opinion. After using hacks once and being selfish, I have learned not and to promise myself to never
use hacks again.

The Denial Of Banning Homework In The United States
In the United States, according to the Institute of Education Sciences, "In fall 2015, about 50.1
million students will attend public, elementary, and secondary schools. Of these, 35.2 million will be
in prekindergarten through grade 8 and 14.9 million will be in grades 9 through 12." During
attendance at these schools, students usually tend to receive homework that is assigned by the
teacher to be completed on time outside of class instruction. With this distribution of homework,
there has been a call to question the banning of this tool in most schools. However, there are
numerous arguments to be made in the denial of banning homework.
The provided contentions exist to support the negative argument:
Contention #1: In the mindset of most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Students claim that due to numerous hours of homework assigned, it tends to build up on them and
thus, causing said students to fall into a stressed state. Although this claim is proven to be valid, the
fact stands that stress will not only be encountered during an average American student's 12 years of
schooling. In 2014, The American Institute of Stress released the statistics relating to that of a
person's daily life. From this data performed by the American Psychological Association, it was
found that job pressure was– and still proves to be– the leading cause of stress in Americans. The
category includes those who feel this job pressure from work overload in particular. Therefore, the
stress that is caused from homework in students is actually preparing these individuals for the higher
workload that they may face in their lives outside of school. Adults essentially face homework as
well. Although it may not be identified as homework, many of these adults take home work from
their job in order to complete it on time. Thus, the factor of stress does not prove as an effective
argument as to why homework should be banned.
In closing, the banning of distribution of homework in schools should not be permitted. Homework
is a necessary tool to keep in schools due to its benefits including: Development in life skills, all the
way to improvement in academic achievement. Overall, homework is an extension of in–school
opportunities to learn, a teacher of valuable characteristics and habits, and a taxi on the academic
road to success. After presenting the facts and studies to support homework being beneficial to
schools, one should be able to see why the negation argument of banning the instructional tool is

Did you know that homework is given to students by teachers every day because they think that it will help them learn better as well as getting more practice, but in reality homework just affects a child's learning in a negative way. According to, "Trent International", homework is a waste of time since the students' do not have someone to help them solve the problems and guidance to make sure it is correct, the students are just practicing bad habits and learning how to do problems with wrong answers. Also, the students sit all day at school doing work without any exercise , then get home by the time they finish then they have to go to bed. Where is the time for activities? • 9. Persuasive Essay : Why Homework Should Be Banned For... Most people would agree that homework takes a lot of time after school and out of their daily lives. 7 hours of the 24 hour day are spent on school. Then including, the average amount of hours spent on homework everyday which is 3.5. That equals 10 hours of the 12–18 hours students are awake in the day. Additionally, an average student gets about 7 hours of sleep each night, when scientists have proven that teens need at least 9 hours. There are simple and easy solutions to these problems, one is to take away homework for students. This would help issues like, no sleep, bad grades, cheating, not being with family enough and more! 79% of the people that took the debate.org quiz thought that homework should be banned. This survey included teachers, students, and parents. There are many students that do sports or after school activities and have not a lot of time for homework. Nearly 6 out of 10/ 57% students do after school activities. As a personal experience, I know that I have cheer practice most nights for two hours each. This leaves only a tiny amount of time I can spend on homework, concluding in me having to stay up later to finish it all. The time you spend on homework each night, could be spent on getting exercise or spending time with people to become better human beings or getting greater social skills. If kids are always busy, they don't get enough sleep. Too much homework also could cause bad grades or kids to attempt to cheat on tests because not always knowing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Why Homework Should Be Banned This issue of after school punishment children are forced to do is getting out of hand. Many people are swayed in their opinions if schools should be allowed to give out homework, or work you would do out of the classroom. Schools should be banned from handing out homework for many reasons where this is just three of them. A school district in Tennessee banned homework because some kids do not have the resources at home to complete homework. Another reason is it will bring grades up because being out of the classroom gives people many opportunities to cheat which causes grades to drop because they aren't learning the material, whereas if the work was done in class these kids wouldn't be able to cheat and it would make them learn it. Others may argue that it will give the kids less practice which will bring their grades down where that is not necessarily true. Some children that are less fortunate than others sometimes do not have the same opportunities that other children do have which is cause for them not getting their homework completed. There are many children that get free or reduced lunches because of their family's average annual income level or how many children of the same in–home family go to that school or school district. A school district in Tennessee banned homework because the administrators decided that, "Anywhere between 65%– 75% of each school's student body qualify for free or reduced lunch programs, so it was decided that students should not be singled ... • 13. Why Should Homework Be Banned Essay Argumentative essay: Ban on homework? I'm heading home on a typical wednesday, pretty worn out from a long day at school and a challenging practice. Its five thirty, and just as I settle down with a warm drink and intent for relaxation, an urging alarm triggers in my brain. Homework! Each day, beginning around six am, looks roughly the same for all students attending school. The routine: wake, hurry and get ready for school, go to school, spend eight hours in six different classes, go home, and complete the work assigned for the night, with, if one is lucky, maybe an hour or so left in the day for spare time. The workload can be anywhere from an hour, up to six. As a result, lots of issues stem from this. With many obligations and responsibilities, there need not be any added turmoil to the already highly demanding life of a teenager. Homework needs to be banned, or at least more restricted, for the sake of students and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is a question that has been pondered on by students, parents, and teachers alike. The average workday of a laborer lasts about seven point seven hours, and the school day, generally seven. But, this does not include the additional average of three hours per day of assignments, study time, and homework all needing to be completed. This adds up to be around ten total hours of school related labor. Many holding careers or in the labor force would consider overtime. Furthermore, there are many other necessary obligations in an adolescents day to day life. It has become a really big problem and it needs to stop it. But here's the question can we stop it? Cigarettes are just plain out horrible, they contain nicotine which is a very addictive stimulant that makes you want to keep smoking. Smoking can also lead to lung cancer and many more consequences, there is more than 650,000 people who die each year because of the consequences of smoking. Therefore smoking is bad for your health and should be banned. Smoking has many major horrible effects on lives that you can't take back. Each day more than 3,200 18 year olds or younger are trying their first cigarette. (Smoking and tobacco) Not only is smoking bad, but it can also lead to illegal drugs which leads to even worse consequences. A new study shows that cigarette smoking can be a gateway to illegal drugs. The study found that people who smoked are 7 times more likely to try marijuana, and cocaine. Also smokers are 14 times more likely to try crack, and 16 more times likely to try heroin. The evidence also had age groups that tells what age are people most likely to try illegal drugs after smoking, and the evidence came out with that people ages up 12 to 15 who smoked cigarettes are 44 more times likely to use crack. Teens ages 15 who smoked cigarettes are up to 80 times likely to use illegal drugs than kids who don't smoke. The most likely drug that young smokers would move onto is cocaine. I work for two hours and it's time for dinner so I take a 30 minute break and then resume homework. Finally the homework is finished and it's nine o'clock before I have even showered, get ready for the next day, or just relax. This is all assuming that there are no sports that day or that you have a social life. With all the schools looking to push start times back an hour or two we go to sleep later that much later and still don't see our family for more than an hour a day. Talking about everything is our strong suit so with a problem as big as homework, why haven't we discussed it? It needs to be talked about and discussed in depth looking at all the pros and cons of it. No one has talked about what they are assigning, why they assign it, if they don't assign homework; then how their test scores compare to others of the same subject. Furthermore all teachers say that homework helps their students comprehend and learn. Upon closer inspection, I noticed that not one of them has released any facts stating that homework is actually helping their students over other teachers with less homework. Which from what I think, most career paths that use mobile devices are probably the better paths with more pay. Cell phones can also teach students responsibility. How? By keeping up on work, they can help by setting reminders or having an alarm go off to do your homework. Which a piece of paper can't do. Or by teaching students to know when to listen, and should be off their phone/device. Knowing when the right time is and won't get their phone taken away. Responsible for the consequences. Many students have gone to collage so they can get a higher and better education. What students don't realize is, college can also be a distraction with a more social life and extracurricular activities. Activities can be from different types of sports such as football, softball, and baseball to clubs like dance, drama, and ceramics. • 40. Persuasive Essay On Homework Vs Students Homework VS Students What would parents think if they found out that homework may do more damage to students then good? Parents do not know the harm that homework is causing to their kids, students are sent home every day with hours of homework leaving students with no time to manage everything they have to do throughout the day. Students go to bed very late at night just to finish up homework and have to wake up the next day on only a hand full of hours of sleep and then this will proceed to affect the students academically at school. Homework has numerous of consequences for students and that is why I believe homework should be banned from certain grade levels as well as restrictions and policies on homework should be applied. Homework may bring emotional, physical, and socially damaging to students. Most of the students in the U.S. take multiple classes with different subjects each school year. Some of these students see their teacher every day or every other day, this means students are going home every day with homework and that includes weekends. Students already spend 8 hours a day on weekdays in school and then they also have to go home with about 2–4 hours of homework. If there are only 24 hours in a day and 8 are spent at school, another 8 hours sleeping, and about 3 hours of homework that leaves students with 5 hours to eat, shower, socialize, be involved in extracurricular actives, work for those who need to, and time to spend with their family. Above all, it is obvious students do not have enough time in the day to juggle all of this, and that is not counting the students that take bus and arrive home later than other students. Due to not having enough time through the day students will have to pick and choice how they spend their hours outside of school, one of the most common things students sacrifice is their sleep at night and this affects them so bad and they have no idea. According to the research MD Craig Canapari found "Short sleep makes children obese, sleepiness is a significant cause of automobile accidents which is the most common cause of death in teenagers, depression, anxiety, and irritability are all associated with insufficient sleep."(2012 p.1) Another thing students usually ... Many students dislike homework and would be happier if it was gone. What if homework was not only tedious but harmful as well? Less than 1% of all students claim that homework is not stressful and this may be one of many reasons that schools should stop giving homework to their students. The government should prevent schools from giving students homework because it can cause a lot of harm in developing children by, increasing stress, consuming free time and being counter productive. From the time cell phones were first invented in 1973, to over thirty years later when the first iPhone was invented in 2007, they have been used as a tool to help people in countless ways. Cell phones have become a large part of our everyday life and contain so much information that we can use for educational purposes. I think that cellphones should be allowed in school because they can be used as a teaching tool, they are easier for the teacher to handout assignments and lastly, they are good for communicating to a parent or guardian after school or in between periods. • 51. Why Should Homework Should Be Banned? Homework Should Be Banned Late nights, eyes only kept open by ungodly amounts of coffee, and never ending piles of paper: these are all symptoms of the nation–sweeping homework epidemic. Students are assigned hours upon hours of after school homework every day – but is it really necessary? Oftentimes, homework causes more harm than good on the mental, physical, and social health of students; therefore, after school assignments should be limited to the four core classes, minimizing those loads as much as possible, because more homework does not necessarily lead to highly successful students, immense amounts of stress are put on students every day, and an eight hour school day should be enough to disseminate the information needed. While some teachers believe that nightly homework is imperative to student achievement, data shows that homework at any level, from grade school to high school, does not equal success. Many East Asian countries, including Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Japan had lower average rates of homework, yet ranked very highly in math. While math homework is usually intended to practice the material learned in class that day, excessive repetition of the same equations will not make the information stick any more than a few practice problems. Children study that material they need to know to prepare for test, and then forget the information once the test is over. The late Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini offered a bounty for the writer's death and Rushdie had to spend 10 years of his life in hiding. The fatwa or edict calling for his murder has yet to be cancelled." Nanda, A. (2012, 09 Oct). This might be one of the only positives of having to ban a book because the book was ... Students shouldn't be failing classes because they should be trying hard and extra– curricular thing can help you not to fail. In the article "Making the grade: should struggling students be banned from clubs and sports?" by Current Events it gives proof that you should not be failing classes. What is that proof? A 2008 study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that time spent in extracurricular physical activity does not take away from elementary school students' ability to do well in the classroom. In fact, it may even help boost girls' academic performance. In the article "Making the grade: should struggling students be banned from clubs and sports?" by Current Events it says ... I believe that it is a choice to not do your schoolwork in that situation. You could grieve, or go to a funeral and when you got home you could do your work or if you miss days of school you even have that amount of time to make up your assignment(s) when you get back. There are also rules about family passing away at your school showing that you should be given an extended amount of time with you assignments if you ask for it. Yes, you may have to look after family during rough times but you have the option to do your schoolwork after, during, and before school. Some children may not have the internet tools at home but you still had options to have those tools. For example, when we got new chromebooks you could take them home with you for a small fee that lasted the entire year. For the children that do not have those tools at home they are also capable of working on the online assignments in free time during school, or at lunch/ recess. Instead of going out to play you can go into the library and work on homework that you don't have the capability of doing at home. You are also given time to work on most things in class or you could stay after school and work on your online homework.Yes, some children don't understand the material when it is first given to you, but that doesn't mean you should fail the class. • 57. Cell Phones Should Be Allowed In School Cell phones have been part of American school culture since the early 1990s. Cell phones in school,is it a good thing or a bad thing? There are many reasons as to why they are acceptable for schools and why they are insignificant for schools. Cell phones have become a lifeline. We as a society have a love hate relationship with them.Sometimes we can't seem to function without them. This is a reason as to why many people want cell phones banned in schools. Having cell phones in schools is a great thing but also a bad thing for students to have in class. There are many reasons why phones should be accepted in schools, here are a couple examples.Students can use their cell phones for help on wikipedia or just the internet in general. As it says in article #1 "Not only will the children be in touch with the parents for regular instructions like a pick up point or change in time etc., but more importantly, they can also feed in emergency numbers like 911,hospitals,relatives,and others."In times like now every child should have a phone so they can call if an attack happens. If an attack happened and the student doesn't have a phone, how will the parent know if their child is safe if they have no phone to contact them with to inform them of their safety. Lastly, from article #3 "More and more students enter our school like Travis Allen who complain that when they are not allowed to use cell phones for learning, they feel like their teachers are keeping them prisoners of their past." This shows the pros of having cell phones in schools. The cons of having cellphones in schools is that they are distractions. Cell phones have twitter, snapchat, facebook, texting, tumblr, etc. In article #1 "Along with many applications available on a cell phone, an important one is that of texting. There is no guarantee that a student will not text during class hours." When students text in class they are losing their concentration on their academics. Also when the students accidently leave there ringer on and get a phone call or text in class, it distracts the whole class. Cell phones in school is also a target for prank calls, inappropriate pictures and videos, using the internet to cheat on tests during class, and jealousy because some may ... • 59. Homework Should Be Banned Should schools be allowed to give out homework? Many people are swayed in their opinions of if schools should be allowed to give out homework or work you would do out of the classroom. There are many children that get free or reduced lunches because of their family's average annual income level or how many children of the same in– home family go to that school or school district. A school district in Tennessee banned homework because the administrators decided that, "Anywhere between 65%–75% of each school's student body qualify for free or reduced lunch programs, so it was decided that students should not be singled out for failing to adequately ... For high school students who typically have seven classes with different teachers, that's approximately 24.5 hours each week. Students spend approximately 35 hours a week at school and around 25 hours on homework. This lengthens each school day from around 7 hours to 10 hours. Now add the time students spend on extracurricular activities and sleep. They are faced with such packed schedules, and yet we wonder why they are struggling. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The negative consequences it yields come forth in multitudes. It gives teachers an excuse to not improve their teaching skills but rather assign homework to make up for squandered class time. Hours spent on homework leaves students with hardly enough time to spend on extracurricular activities, personal interests, family gatherings, and sleep. The stress it produces often leads to depression, physical health problems, unhealthy coping mechanisms such as drugs and alcohol, self harm, and suicide. An ample amount of research has been done that substantiates homework's harmful impact towards a child's educational progress and emotional growth, yet it is repeatedly ignored. For something with such hazardous risks to be viewed as an essential constituent of education is absurd. Our nation is essentially valuing education before life itself. Teachers should not be given the ability to deprive children of necessary developmental experiences by assigning extreme amounts of homework, and parents should not sit around allowing it to happen. In order for children to become truly educated they need to experience the world and what is has to offer, not be cooped up in their bedrooms for hours on end completing futile ... Why I Think All Schools Should Abolish Homework Homework: It's Better Than You Think In her article "Why I Think All Schools Should Abolish Homework", Vicky Abeles argues that schools should abolish, if not limit, the amount of homework given to students because there aren't many proven benefits, and instead will harm students in some aspects. She backs her argument with the fact that studies have shown there "is no academic benefit to high school homework" (par. 6 Abeles) after a certain length of time. Students are also not getting a chance to rest and be healthy, instead they are burdened "with an imbalance of sedentary, academic tasks" (par. 9 Abeles). Abeles also mentions that schools such as Henry West Laboratory School have "eliminated mandatory, graded homework for optional assignments" (par. 11 Abeles) and that other schools should follow, allowing students to be able to "opt out of assignments without penalty" (par. 18 Abeles) so they can do other activities. • 75. Why Homework Should Not Be Assigned Essay Homework has dated back to the beginning of the American education system, and so has the debate of whether students should do homework or not. Over the years, there have been many different arguments as to why homework should or should not be assigned. Most of those arguments have almost always resulted in two main arguments, it takes too much time or it is a necessary supplement. Opinions on this subject has changed drastically over the years. This can be seen in the argument from Issues and Controversies, "The crusade against homework was so effective that, in 1901, California banned homework for students under the age of 15, though the state allowed a limited amount of homework in high school." This was later repealed and during the Cold War era, homework was important to better understand our country and what it stood for as a way to combat communism in the US. The Iowa Core sets the standard for learning in Iowa. The core do not say whether homework should be given or not. Teachers vary when interviewed on whether homework should be given or not. Some teachers give homework daily while others almost never give out homework. There is no definitive answer on whether or not homework should be assigned. Some say it supplements learning while others have actually said that it hurts learning. This is not an easy topic. To better understand the sides it is important to look at what each side argues. The Denial Of Banning Homework In The United States In the United States, according to the Institute of Education Sciences, "In fall 2015, about 50.1 million students will attend public, elementary, and secondary schools. Of these, 35.2 million will be in prekindergarten through grade 8 and 14.9 million will be in grades 9 through 12." During attendance at these schools, students usually tend to receive homework that is assigned by the teacher to be completed on time outside of class instruction. With this distribution of homework, there has been a call to question the banning of this tool in most schools. However, there are numerous arguments to be made in the denial of banning homework. The provided contentions exist to support the negative argument: Contention #1: In the mindset of most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Students claim that due to numerous hours of homework assigned, it tends to build up on them and thus, causing said students to fall into a stressed state. Although this claim is proven to be valid, the fact stands that stress will not only be encountered during an average American student's 12 years of schooling. In 2014, The American Institute of Stress released the statistics relating to that of a person's daily life. From this data performed by the American Psychological Association, it was found that job pressure was– and still proves to be– the leading cause of stress in Americans. The category includes those who feel this job pressure from work overload in particular. Therefore, the stress that is caused from homework in students is actually preparing these individuals for the higher workload that they may face in their lives outside of school. Adults essentially face homework as well. Although it may not be identified as homework, many of these adults take home work from their job in order to complete it on time. Thus, the factor of stress does not prove as an effective argument as to why homework should be banned. In closing, the banning of distribution of homework in schools should not be permitted. Homework is a necessary tool to keep in schools due to its benefits including: Development in life skills, all the way to improvement in academic achievement. Overall, homework is an extension of in–school opportunities to learn, a teacher of valuable characteristics and habits, and a taxi on the academic road to success.
