British Pound of Sterlings
The birth of the currency
The pound is 1200 years old, born about 775AD, when "sterlings" or silver coins were the main
currency in Anglo–Saxon kingdoms.
If you had 240 of them, you had one pound in weight – a vast fortune in the 8th century.
A century and a half later Athelstan, the first King of England, founded a series of mints and made
sterling a national currency in 928.
In 1124, a disgusted Henry I had 94 mint workers castrated for producing bad coins.
Sterling retained importance through the middle ages. Before the foundation of the Bank of
England, the Tower of London was the store for spare money. Silver penny were the only coins right
through until the 13th century and silver was the currency standard till the 18th ... Show more

After the war, rumours swirled that sterling was to devalue, and so many countries converted their
pounds to dollars.
The pound was devalued by 30 per cent in 1949. The enormous postwar balance of payments deficit
was just too much for the UK. Sterling 's weakness and decline became too obvious. National banks
wanted dollars not pounds.
Not a penny less: the 1967 Devaluation
In 1967 the currency wasdevalued again, this time by 14 per cent.
Overseas, the sterling currency was of lesser importance. Dollars were more alluring – and as many
thought stable. But in 1971 President Nixon devalued the dollar – a response to damage done by the
Vietnam War – and opened the gates to a new era of floating exchange. The stability of the postwar
settlement was over.
The currency snake
Meanwhile 1972 saw the first efforts to fix the pound to other European currencies.
At the start of the year the four major European Economic Community currencies – sterling, the
deutschemark, the French franc and the Italian lira – formed the so–called 'snake '. The economic
bloc then floated their currencies together on the markets, each country having responsibility for the
stability of its currency within parameters.
The experiment failed, though, not long off the ground. Sterling dropped out after only six weeks,
weaker than ever, bowing to the dictates of the markets.

Anne Fausto-Sterling Dualisms
In this essay I will apply social construction theory to article "Dueling Dualisms" by Anne Fausto–
Sterling and "where's the rulebook for sex verification?"by Alice dreger. This essay gives me a
chance to formulate my own opinion on this explanation for why gender inequalities exist in our
society. Social Construction is how people labels(socially constructed) us not a natural given. It
begins from the moment as we were born. Once a we came into the world, our gender is determined,
and the gender process of social construction has begun. As we got adult, we are treated based on
our gender.
First article that i am going to apply social construction theory is "Dueling Dualisms" by Anne
Fausto–Sterling.Basicly this article is about Maria Patino, an Olympic runner,
According IOC's definition ,she was not female,Thus Patino was barred competing on Spain's
olympic team.It was really har period for her.She later said, "I was erased from the map ,as if i had
never existed.I gave twelve to sports."(H&R 125) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Second Article that i am going to use is "where is the rulebook for sex verification?" by Alice
dreger. Many of us think it is easy to determine person's gender by looking their sex
chromosomes.for example if a person has XX chromosomes than he is a man but if person has XY
chromosomes, she is a woman but it is not true. The world champion runner from South
Africa,Caster Semenya's sexuality was under big question."The IAAF's process for determinig
whether Caster Semeny is a woman will involve at least a geneticist, and endocrinologist,a
gynecologist and a psychologist."(H&R 122).In certain sports,a woman naturally high levels of
androgens has an advantage.some men naturally have higher levels of androgens than other men.she

evidence, almost all the sales associates employed at the Holland & Barrett, are foreign workers. As
far as one can tell, most of these workers are from the People's Republic of China or the Philippines.
While such a HR policy may be borne out of necessity in Singapore's tight labour market, especially
in the retail industry, it has implications on the quality of service rendered. From personal
experience, staff from PRC were unable to efficiently articulate the information with regards to
products in English. In fact, when the staff reverted to their mother tongue, they were then able to
provide more indepth information about their products. Location of the Outlets Unlike its

The Rolls Royce Limited Effect On The Company Essay
In this report we are going to discuss about the Rolls Royce Limited which exports aero engines to
US. In 1978 and 1979 to maintain the export sales and won huge engine contracts Rolls Royce
entered in contracts that were fixed in the dollars. While entering into the contracts exchange rate
was about $1.80 for one pound and expected to fall over $1.65 so they did not cover their dollar
cover exposure. By the end of 1979 £ 1 = $2.12. So Rolls Royce suffered loss of £58 million in
1979 in spite of increased sales because Rolls Royce's operating costs (wages, components and debt
servicing) are incurred in sterling. Appreciation of home country resulted in foreign exchange risk
and economic exposure. So here in this report we are providing the factors that led to the economic
exposure and inflation affect on the company. We are providing various financial and non–financial
alternatives that Rolls Royce should consider while entering in the contract to eliminate or reduce
the Exchange risk. INTRODUCTION Rolls Royce Limited is the British owned company which
manufactures the aero engines. The engines manufactured by the company are supplied to the
America. U S is largest consumer and supplier of the air frame. Pratt and Whitney Aircraft group
(United Technologies) and General Electric's Aerospace division is two US companies which
dominates the market. Rolls Royce sales export sales are stable i.e 40 % of the total sales had been
directed to the US market. Rolls

Cyberpunk Definitional Paper
Cyberpunk Definitional Paper In the late 1970's and early '80's and new type of writing style came
about that relied on many of the traditional criteria to be called science fiction, but had a certain
something else that had many people agreeing that it was not just science fiction. This new style of
writing was so different and so many people started writing in this style that the general public
decided that it was time this genre of writing deserved a label: cyberpunk. Cyberpunk is not an easy
group of writing to define on paper, but it is easy to spot when one is reading it. The cyberpunk
writing movement started out with many short stories then became recognizable to the masses with
probably the movements most successful novel, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is not to say that cyberpunks do not have there fair share of far flung imaginative human
interface hookups and so forth, but they are talking about technology that if it were to be developed,
it would be within the writers life time or so. The other difference in the technology that is described
in cyberpunk is how it is used. Almost every person in the stories has access to the technology. More
importantly, the technology involved normally allows for extreme human inter–action with it. The
writer will make computers and humans connect, and allow the computer to alter the mind, human
social behaviors, and/or society itself. Cyberpunk futures make computers not only become a part of
everyday life, but a integral element for survival and prosperity. This aspect is the main plot in
Gibson's novel. His main character, Chase, needs to find a way to reverse the damage in a chip in
his head for him to do the type of work he wanted to do. Before cyberpunk, humans had control
over thier technology, and it was a separate entity, but now the distinction over how much a person
is human and how much of them are machine is not so clear. Now humans have lost the ability to
control thier technology. Another important feature of cyberpunk is the integration of everyday
events and items that affect people the most. In Neuromancer, Gibson allows chase to go in to a bar
and have a beer. This may not be an overly exciting event, one that many people do every day, but

Sterling Marking Products Ing.
PROBLEM/ISSUE STATEMENT:
We need to determine whether Sterling possesses the key success factors necessary to expand
internationally into the UK. Our analysis will evaluate the feasibility of Sterling's international
expansion via exporting, licensing and branching.
SITUATION ANALYSIS:
Market Segmentation (SWOT)
Strengths
–Significantly higher market demand than in Canada (162k–192k vs. 87K)
Weaknesses
–Barriers to entry include, high number of competitors, high exchange rate, high initial capital
requirements, cultural differences among sales people (perhaps not as aggressive as in Canada,
resulting in lower sales)
–Lack of current Sterling brand identity
–Development of bad reputation
–Lack of die and embosser sub–assembly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sterling will fail to achieve higher production and revenues. Sterling's presence in the UK market
would remain extremely low with a total number of Mark Maker units sold equaling 3000.
Additionally, Sterling's reputation would continue to be severally damaged as a result of poor die
manufacturing by Jordan, which could potentially harm Sterling Mark Maker's brand identity in
other parts of the world.
"Exporter"
Important aspect to keep in mind is that under this scenario Sterling is assuming that it will become
the sole provider of Mark Makers in the UK. It is irrational to expect to dominate the entire market
upon entry. While Sterling would be able to meet UK's demand, it would face some fearce
competition especially from UK's top seal producers, which include Jordan and Bolsom, who have
very loyal customers. Furthermore, duty, taxes and other regulatory exporting barriers would
significantly lower Sterling's potential revenues. On the positive side, Sterling would not be giving
up its core competency (computer technology) and the threat of patent duplication resulting in a
potential domestic branch failure would not exist. Additionally, Sterling would be able to test the
market with its problem without high–risk exposure.
"Licensing"
This option possesses a threat to one of Sterling's core competencies, which is its state of the art
computer technology. It would not be in Sterling's best interest

Carrefour Case Write-Up
Carrefour S.A. Case Write–up In order to finance its ongoing expansion, Carrefour decided to issue
EUR750 million 10–year bond through the eurobond market. Investment banks, like Morgan
Stanley and UBS–Warburg had suggested that instead of issuing the bond with EUR, Carrefour
could borrow British sterling pounds this time by taking the advantage of a temporary borrowing
opportunity in the currency. Carrefour also faced three other alternatives of issuance: the bond could
be issued at a coupon rate of 5.25% in euro, 3.625% in Swiss francs, or 5.5% in USD.
There are several considerations that Carrefour should take when it evaluated which currency it
should issue the EUR debt. According to relative PPP equation,

different currencies. The markup equals to the difference between the bond's issuing coupon rates
and inter–bank interest rates of 10–year bond of four currencies. The calculation has shown that
British pounds has the lowest markup among other three currencies. (See Exhibit 3) This 0.001%
markup would greatly reduce default rate of the debt and make the debt more secured, also attracts

What Captures My Attention?
We often trust police officers to protect our homes and our loved ones, but what if the officers we
trust can actually harm our loved ones? Over the past few years, unjustified shootings, rough
treatments, and severe beatings have been on and off on our tv screens and on our phones. We hear
various stories especially from minorities about their unforgettable encounters with police officers
who hurt and accused them. According to CopCrisis, almost 3,000 Americans have died over the
past three years. One of the relevant factors why this issue keeps happening is racial discrimination.
Police officers have been discriminating and accusing minorities over the littlest offenses like
selling DVDs outside supermarkets or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most of these deaths would go unreported and unnoticed. While many of these civilians were
minorities, innocent, and unarmed, the violence that they have been showing in public is scaring
most civilians as they think that police officers will not be able to protect them, but can actually
harm them. One of the victims who faced police brutality was Alton Sterling from Los Angeles. In
the article "Alton Sterling And When Black Lives Stop Mattering" by Roxane Gay, she clearly
explains the death of Mr. Sterling in the hands of police officers. Gay discusses the event as when
Mr. Sterling was selling bootleg CDs outside a convenience store and was tasered by two police
officers but was shot to death later on. She writes, "The body cameras the police officers were
wearing "dangled," according to the police department's spokesman, L'Jean McKneely, so we don't
know how much of the events leading to Mr. Sterling's death were captured". Gay includes why
there were no further investigation was involved later that night, which she also writes, "Mr.
McKneely said the officers were not questioned last night because "we give officers normally a day
or so to go home and think about it"". In some cases, body cameras that are attached onto them can
capture events, except in Mr. Sterling's case which makes it very suspicious. Gay talks about how
anxious she gets to the fact that many guns are triggered against black people and how many
families are grieving each time a police officer kills an innocent black man. These kinds of cases
make a minority feel like their voices do not matter. Due to these cases, many minorities especially
African–Americans feel unsafe and scared. It is safe to say that all lives matter, but there are still
groups who are getting treated unfairly to a point that they would kill them for no strong reason due
to their ethnic backgrounds. These kinds of injustices should be heard and should give a

Sterling Silverson Narrative
MORAL: Don't do things that go against your morals Sterling Silverson stepped through the cold,
wet, sticky mud and knocked on the door of the huge stone brick gate that separated King Sparrow's
castle from the rest of the kingdom. He waited there for a couple minutes until he could hear hushed
arguing past the main gate. First, there was a loud sigh– closely followed by a short, trembling
pointy nosed man. He wore a beautiful black cloak with bits of chain mail covering the sleeves and
legs for added protection. "H–hello? W–who are you?" stammered the man at the gate. "I am
Sterling Silverson. Son of Bartimaeus Silverson. I have completed all the knight training tasks and I
am ready. I wish to speak to the king." answered Silverson. The man at the gate grumbled to himself
and opened it. Silverson walked in and was let in the castle. He was about to go up to the throne

Alton Sterling Case Study
The case of Alton Sterling should not still be under review with the evidence that is presented. It is
clear that he was shot while having nothing in his hands and was murdered. In the course of recent
years, we have borne observer to grainy recordings of what "secure and serve" looks like for dark
lives – Tamir Rice, Walter Scott, Eric Garner, Kajieme Powell, to give some examples.

Mr. McKneely said the officers were not addressed the previous evening since "we give officers
regularly a day or so to go home and consider it." Mr. Sterling did not have a weapon in his hands
although it is said that he had a weapon in his possession this did not justify the reason for police to
shoot him, there has been many occasions where the police have made an arrested and have found a
weapon on someone, but they did not shoot them.
There is also miscommunication between the two officers, While one officer is saying "He has a
gun" it is most likely meant that the gun is not in his hands, while the officers who did not see the
gun only heard the words "He has a gun" and immediately decided to use deadly force.
An expert said that the officers' choice to put Sterling on his back was an "appalling" one, since it
made him much harder to control. Another expert noticed that it is "hard for cops to control arms."
In the last seconds of the video, one expert said that the officers lost control of Sterling and were left
just with the alternative to use deadly force. Another expert said that the officers ought to have
picked up control over Sterling's hands with the goal that he couldn't have gone after the weapon,
wiping out the worry. "A very much prepared officer would see how to control the hands," the

Case Study Sterling
This experience was definitely not what I expected it to be; Sterling is a small town and it always
seems like there is nothing to do. However, not I see that it is looking to expand and incorporate
many modern ideas into the old–fashioned community. In addition, I did not realize how many
crucial issues the Council deals with on a daily basis (i.e. the marijuana bill). Although Sterling may
be a smaller town, but a lot of government and other proceedings go on actively. Moreover, I
expected a much longer meeting both times. The first time I understand there was not much to talk
about; however, even for all the things covered in the second meeting, it went relatively fast. Maybe
if I had stayed for the work session it would seem longer. Secondly, ... Show more content on

The first is the level of government responsible. We had a discussion over this early in the course
and I got the full understanding after attending these meetings. For example, the marijuana–selling
bill came up at the first meeting I attended. It is legal in the state of Colorado to sell marijuana;
however, if you local county/city/etc. does not permit it, you are not allowed to. This is the case in
Sterling, but it may soon change. The second concept I witnessed when attending these meeting was
voter, or public, participation. As I stated before, not many people attended the first meeting. Maybe
two rows of chair were filled total. If more people were involved with their local governments, more
actions could be completed and things could be done quicker. I am going to encourage more people
I know to attend these meetings, not only for the publics' sake but also for their own knowledge and
awareness. Finally, I witnessed many tax and other budget issues being handled and contemplated at
the meetings. For example, the City Manager Saling talked about the sales tax is still on a steady
incline that is likely to continue. He encouraged the public to be aware and watch this so they can
adjust their personal budgets. In addition, the budget issue appeared again with the marijuana bill.

Badges of Trade
BADGES OF TRADE
Profit seeking motive
When a person enters into a transaction, we need to identify whether there is a profit seeking
motive. It is not the existence of a profit that is important, it is the motive to earn one. However, the
ZRA will really be interested in this issue if a profit has actually been earned, because then they
have something to tax. A Taxpayer may argue that they are trading in order to utilize a loss to reduce
their Tax bill. The taxpayer must however, demonstrate the motive rather than the existence of profit
to establish that a trade is being carried on.
Note:
Intention to trade clearly constitutes trading. Intention to make a profit may not necessarily be so.
In IRC Vs Reinhold (1953) the Tax– payer bought ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Cape Brandy Syndicate Vs IRC (1921), three individuals in the wine trade bought 10,000 gallons
of South African Brandy. This was blended, bottled and sold to over 100 separate buyers over a
period of about 18 months. They were held to be trading. Per Rowlatt. J. They had "...bought it with
a view to transport it, with a view to modify its character by skilful manipulation, by blending with a
view to alter..."
In IRC Vs Livingstone (1972), a syndicate purchased a cargo vessel with a view to converting it into
a steam drifter and selling it at a profit. They had never previously done this, but they were held to
be trading!
Circumstances giving rise to the Realization
If a taxpayer sells an asset in order to raise money to help solve some financial problems it will be
difficult to prove that he is carrying on a trade. Incidentally, there have been few cases on this point.
In Page Vs Pogson (1954) the taxpayer built a house for himself and sold it six months later after
completion. He then built another one but had to sell it when his employment moved to another part
of the Country. He was held to be trading by the Commissioners of Taxes.
In addition to the six badges of trade there additional factors which have to be taken into account.
These are:
Taxpayer's other circumstances
If other circumstances of a taxpayer indicate the existence of a trade then even the current
transaction is likely to be interpreted as an indication

Sterling Correctional Facilities
In my class Institutional Corrections, we went to visit the Sterling Correctional Facility which
housed 2,500 inmates. This gave me a better understanding of the different custody levels, male
prisoners and overall the prison lifestyle at this correctional institution. Personally, I was expecting
this prison to have more restrictions with little freedom for the inmates. With this prison being so
much bigger and having more inmates I thought there would be more limitations on certain things.
Rather, I got to watch inmates move somewhat freely and do things that interest them. From my
understanding, there was not a set schedule for the inmate disregarding dinner times, inmate counts
and bedtime. I was very impressed with the facility and staff. The facility was well organized and
professional. The facility felt like an actual prison to me, it was not as welcoming and home–like as
the Wyoming Women's Correction Center. I liked the feel of the prison environment rather than the
welcoming environment because it was a constant reminder to be aware. At the Correctional

The Case Of Shelly Sterling V. Donald Sterling
In the U.S. many people turn to courts' to help them settle disputes, gain monetary compensation, or

Judges enforce the law with a courtroom in order for justice to take place. For example, in the
Sterling case Superior Court Judge Michael Levanas heard both sides of the oral arguments
presented. His ruling on the case wasn't based on personal feelings. It was based on facts,
enthralling oral arguments, and his understanding of the law.
Another obvious individual that can be found within the court is an attorney. They also play an
important role, there are attorneys for both parties meaning the plaintiff and the defendant.
Attorneys can be either hired by each party or an attorney can be appointed to them by the court.
Their role in the courtroom, "is to bring out the facts that put his or her client's case in the most
favorable light, but do so using approved legal procedures... On relatively rare occasions defendants
in criminal cases or parties in civil cases attempt to present their case themselves, without using a
lawyer. Parties who act on their own behalf are said to act pro se" (Courtroom Participants).
Attorneys represent people within the court for those who have little to no knowledge of the law. A
party with an attorney has a great possibility of win a case as opposed to not having legal
representation. Attorneys have

Sterling Bay Advantages And Disadvantages
Sterling Bay is known for its natural magnificence, located by the sea with its long, pristine
beautiful beaches, hills and a small population of 5000 people. Its undisturbed unique limestone
caves and incredible rock pool formations are some of the Bay's natural attractions. The abundant
marine life suppy around has provided the fishermen locals to sustain their living conditions for
over generations. However, although there is a built up town situated away from the beach, it is just
a small portion of the land and did not affect the rural and natural atmosphere of Sterling Bay.
Together with the fishing culture and expertise of the locals, all these relatively unspoilt natural
conditions possess a big potential for the tourism industry to be further developed in the areas to

Donald Sterling Racist Comments
There is a question floating around in the NBA (aka the National Basketball Association)
community right now. Should Donald Sterling be banned for his racist comments? Yes, I think he
should. What he said was not excusable even though he comes from a generation where saying
those things is okay. He attempted to get his girlfriend to take pictures off Instagram because "she
was publicizing the fact she was walking with a black man." In his interview on CNN he said the
following. " That's the one problem I have. Jews when they get successful they will help their

Sterling is now charged with a $2.5 million fine and is banned, however, he refuses to pay the fine

sum of $2.5 million, but instead, he wants to sue the NBA for his suspension and for attempting to
strip him of his ownership of the Los Angeles Clippers. Arsenio Hall, a talk show host, had made a
joke about trying to raise $1 billion, and Katt Williams, an actor, rapper and comedian, had given
him $1,100 in $100 bills. Even after the cameras had gone off, Katt Williams had not taken his
money back. On the show, Katt had said "We are in the Clippers business!" Could Arsenio Hall
really be trying to buy the Clippers? It's doubtful, but what could this mean for Sterling's ownership
of the Los Angeles Clippers? I think someone will buy it and leave Sterling hanging there without a
team. There could be others that are actually serious about buying the Clippers. Things are not
looking so good for the Los Angeles Clippers owner.

Speculative Bombing : Speculative Attack
Chris Grabel Professor Yuan International Monetary Economics 16 December 2016 Speculative
Attack What Is Speculative Attack? A speculative attack is a precipitous acquisition of assets such as
gold, currency, or permits, by previously inactive speculators. A speculative attack is caused by the
massive selling of a country's currency by both domestic and foreign investors. Countries that use a
fixed exchange rate (an exchange rate that is fixed against that of another currency, or a basket of
currencies) are much more at risk to a speculative attack than those that use a floating exchange rate.
This is because countries with a fixed exchange rate tend to hold a lot more reserves than those with
a floating exchange rate. Countries have two choices when undergoing a speculative attack, they can
either maintain a fixed exchange rate, or withdraw their currency. If a country were to maintain their
fixed exchange rate, they run the risk of having a serious economic depression or a financial
collapse. If a country has a fixed exchange rate, the country's central bank must maintain the given
price of the currency with that of the foreign currencies participating. If the central bank is unable to
defend the currency during a speculative attack, they may be able to sell the currency in exchange
for foreign currencies anticipating that when the bank runs out of reserves it will be forced to stop
defending the currency at this price. If a speculator were to calculate correctly, the

Sterling Weather Center Essay
The trip I did was a virtual field trip, and I did it on the Sterling Weather Center. I choose to do my
research on the Sterling Weather Center because I have always been interested in weather and the
different technology and devices they use to predict it. I learned that meteorologist have many
precise steps they have to take to get the most accurate weather that they are able to get. I also
realized that without meteorologist and broadcasters our world would be so different than it is now
because we wouldn't know what to expect the next day or couple days. Weather impacts our daily

weather center can provide the forecast and warning services for 44 counties in Maryland, northern
Virginia, and the eastern West Virginia panhandle, plus the District of Columbia and the city of
Baltimore. NOAA or the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has a total of 122 field

probe) is one of the older weather devices, after all they started using it in the 1930's, of course it is
way more advanced now. The radiosonde is a small instrument package that weighs 250 to 500
grams and is suspended below a large balloon inflated with hydrogen or helium gas. The sensors on
it relay air pressure, temperature, relative humidity and GPS position data each second. Wind speed

Exorbitant Privilege : The Rise And Fall Of The Dollar
The United States is a powerful country with a powerful economy. It has a huge presence in the
international market and this is due primarily to its exorbitant privilege. Exorbitant privilege is the
benefit that the US is able to enjoy due to the dollar's status as the currency used for international
reserves. Many economists have criticized this privilege of the US, including Barry Eichengreen.
Eichengreen presents the argument that the dollar should not be the only currency that is used in the
International Monetary System (IMS) and that despite its history, it no longer has a reason to be the
only currency in the global economy, believing that the IMS would benefit from having multiple
international currencies. He argues this by presenting the history of the economies throughout the
world that have led to this point. His presents his argument in his book Exorbitant Privilege: The
Rise and Fall of the Dollar and the Future of the International Monetary System. The dollar is the
most widely used and most influential currency throughout the globe. This has allowed it to do
many things including having other countries rely on it. This allows the US to exert its influence
internationally. This also lets the US keep the possibility of a balance of payments crisis near
improbable. This is because other countries trust in the dollar and its safety. When other countries

5 Factors affecting inbound and domestic tourism * Health, safety and security * Economic
recession in the UK * Exchange rates * Weather * Accessibility
Economic recession in the UK
When the UK economy is doing well, its pound sterling is strong. However, having a strong pound
actually discourage visitors from overseas because when they exchange their money in pound they
will be getting less money, so it make visiting UK expensive and it deter inbound visitor from
visiting UK.
Regardless to that when UK is in a recession the sterling is weak which means that overseas visitor
can get more pounds for their money and would find UK much more cheaper which encourage
inbound visitor to visit the UK. A recession ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

'Crystalize' By Lindsey Sterling: Song Analysis
The song I chose for the listening guide is "Crystalize" by Lindsey Sterling. The song was released
as a music video on her YouTube channel. Lindsey Sterling, an American violinist, dancer,
performance artist and composer, picked up learning the violin at age 5. Since then Sterling was in a
band at age 16, introduced her own YouTube channel in 2007, and was a quarter finalist on
Americas Got Talent in 2010. Americas Got Talent gained her both popularity and more traffic on
her YouTube Channel and since 2010 Sterling has released two studio albums, an EP and a couple
of singles. Her songs are an dynamic mix of Celtic folk music, modern classical, dancing and
electronic. The eighth–most watched video of 2012, "Crystalize", is an infusion of a classical
instrument, the violin, and modern day musical composition, dubstep. Lindsey Sterling, the solo
violinist, is so passionate about the music that she writes that when she plays the violin its as if her
body is the extension of the notes being played and is part of her expression. Sterling's juxtaposition

electrical music dissipates and then reenters creating a perfect juxtaposition with the violin really
elevates the music to the audience. All of this elements together give it an eastern feel and I get the

and with the violin it would be nothing different than an ordinary modern day

On Tuesday July 6, 2016 at approximately 12:15 a.m. 37 year old Alton Sterling was shot and killed
by two police officers responding to a disturbance call. The altercation between Mr. Sterling and the
two officers occurred at the Triple S Food Mart in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The two officers
involved in the shooting have been identified as 28 year old Blane Salamoni, and 28 year old Howie
Lake II. Both officers used physical force to bring Mr. Sterling to the ground, but it is unclear
through the video which officer used their gun to shoot Mr. Sterling or if both officers shot him.

From the video, it looks like things escalated quickly between the officers and Sterling. The Officers
could have spent more time talking to Sterling, and the might have even been able to ask him if he
had a weapon on him instead of finding it once they wrestled him to the ground. They could have
also resorted to using the Taser gun on him again once he was on the ground instead of pulling out
their guns. By doing this I feel as though the situation would have gone more calmly than it did. It
would have prevented anyone from getting shot which would have allowed officers to fulfill their
four goals which were stated before. Sterling would have never been killed, and everyone's safety
would have been protected. If this situation were looked at from a hypothetical standpoint things
could have turned out differently. Sterling could have gained possession of his gun while they were
wrestling and shot off a few rounds before the officers shot him, or Sterling might have just let the
officers take the weapon from him before things escalated. The second hypothetical scenario would
have been the best outcome because everyone would have been safe, the officers would have made

The Perfect Stranger By Amy Sterling Casil
Scientist are researching genetic modification for many reasons. Some people think we are not good
enough the way we are, and want to create a 'perfect' person. We have been given the ability to learn
how to heal sickness and fix wounds with science. However, we have a responsibility to use this
information wisely. We have been created with unique gifts and those gifts are important to the
enhancement of life. Likewise, while researching about the Author of "The Perfect Stranger", Amy
Sterling Casil, I have discovered that she also has similar feelings about the gifts that we have all
been given. We need to consider a few things as we review Casil's story "The Perfect Stranger".
First, medical advancement is a great thing. Next, we need to make sure we are taking responsible
steps while advancing and not creating even more division in our society. And lastly, we need to
make sure we don't lose our diversity and unique qualities. Although, some people believe genetic
modification is what we need to better the human race, in actuality genetic modification can be
dangerous, because overstepping our boundaries will produce something that is no longer authentic
or that is unable to relate on a genuine level. Casil's "The Perfect Stranger" is a futuristic sci–fi story
about a child, Denny, that had a heart defect in utero and the doctors corrected it via genetic
modification. As the story goes on Denny's mother, trying to give her son every advantage that
money can buy, allows

Analysis Of The Movie ' Rodman Sterling '
Rodman Sterling is considered one of the best television writers in American history. Starting from a
small city town within Syracuse, New York, the experiences of war and the injustices within the
workplace developed Rod's concern for the state of society. He went forward to get a degree in
English literature and drama. As his talent for writing developed, he received several Emmy awards
and became one of the best things to happen to television (PBS). Sterling's playwright ability
enabled him to bring quality entertainment to Americans in a media infected with mediocrity.
Knowing Sterling's motivation to use the Twilight Zone as a social commentary enables a more in–
depth understanding of his use of ingenuity to sneak in controversial themes into a fantastical world.
Sterling's influence helped writers in television to fight for a place where they could flourish in their
creativity. Since its invention, television had been trying to find its home somewhere between the
current modes of entertainment, that of radio and movies. Company sponsors, having the power of
monetary backing, were the main dictators of what made it to the screen. Writers, on the other hand,
had to somehow find a way to be able to creatively express their works in a way that would not end
in censorship from the sponsors looming above them. The result was a level of mediocrity that the
companies desired, using TV as a mode of advertisement while providing just enough entertainment

Power Dynamic Between Joan And Roger's Episode 'Babylon'

America has had a historically dominant patriarchal system with a particular type of man in charge:
the white, heterosexual, male, who until the 60s–70s had yet to be challenged in his birthright claim

British Pound Of Sterlings

  • 1. British Pound of Sterlings The birth of the currency The pound is 1200 years old, born about 775AD, when "sterlings" or silver coins were the main currency in Anglo–Saxon kingdoms. If you had 240 of them, you had one pound in weight – a vast fortune in the 8th century. A century and a half later Athelstan, the first King of England, founded a series of mints and made sterling a national currency in 928. In 1124, a disgusted Henry I had 94 mint workers castrated for producing bad coins. Sterling retained importance through the middle ages. Before the foundation of the Bank of England, the Tower of London was the store for spare money. Silver penny were the only coins right through until the 13th century and silver was the currency standard till the 18th ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After the war, rumours swirled that sterling was to devalue, and so many countries converted their pounds to dollars. The pound was devalued by 30 per cent in 1949. The enormous postwar balance of payments deficit was just too much for the UK. Sterling 's weakness and decline became too obvious. National banks wanted dollars not pounds. Not a penny less: the 1967 Devaluation In 1967 the currency wasdevalued again, this time by 14 per cent. Overseas, the sterling currency was of lesser importance. The stability of the postwar settlement was over. The currency snake Meanwhile 1972 saw the first efforts to fix the pound to other European currencies. At the start of the year the four major European Economic Community currencies – sterling, the deutschemark, the French franc and the Italian lira – formed the so–called 'snake '. The economic bloc then floated their currencies together on the markets, each country having responsibility for the stability of its currency within parameters. The experiment failed, though, not long off the ground. Sterling dropped out after only six weeks, weaker than ever, bowing to the dictates of the markets. • 2. Anne Fausto-Sterling Dualisms In this essay I will apply social construction theory to article "Dueling Dualisms" by Anne Fausto– Sterling and "where's the rulebook for sex verification?"by Alice dreger. This essay gives me a chance to formulate my own opinion on this explanation for why gender inequalities exist in our society. Social Construction is how people labels(socially constructed) us not a natural given. It begins from the moment as we were born. Once a we came into the world, our gender is determined, and the gender process of social construction has begun. As we got adult, we are treated based on our gender. First article that i am going to apply social construction theory is "Dueling Dualisms" by Anne Fausto–Sterling.Basicly this article is about Maria Patino, an Olympic runner, According IOC's definition ,she was not female,Thus Patino was barred competing on Spain's olympic team.It was really har period for her.She later said, "I was erased from the map ,as if i had never existed.I gave twelve to sports."(H&R 125) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Second Article that i am going to use is "where is the rulebook for sex verification?" by Alice dreger. Many of us think it is easy to determine person's gender by looking their sex chromosomes.for example if a person has XX chromosomes than he is a man but if person has XY chromosomes, she is a woman but it is not true. The world champion runner from South Africa,Caster Semenya's sexuality was under big question."The IAAF's process for determinig whether Caster Semeny is a woman will involve at least a geneticist, and endocrinologist,a gynecologist and a psychologist."(H&R 122).In certain sports,a woman naturally high levels of androgens has an advantage.some men naturally have higher levels of androgens than other men.she was told that she has naturally have too high a level of androgens to compete as a ... Over–reliance on Foreign Labour Based on anecdotal evidence, almost all the sales associates employed at the Holland & Barrett, are foreign workers. As far as one can tell, most of these workers are from the People's Republic of China or the Philippines. While such a HR policy may be borne out of necessity in Singapore's tight labour market, especially in the retail industry, it has implications on the quality of service rendered. • 4. The Rolls Royce Limited Effect On The Company Essay In this report we are going to discuss about the Rolls Royce Limited which exports aero engines to US. In 1978 and 1979 to maintain the export sales and won huge engine contracts Rolls Royce entered in contracts that were fixed in the dollars. While entering into the contracts exchange rate was about $1.80 for one pound and expected to fall over $1.65 so they did not cover their dollar cover exposure. By the end of 1979 £ 1 = $2.12. So Rolls Royce suffered loss of £58 million in 1979 in spite of increased sales because Rolls Royce's operating costs (wages, components and debt servicing) are incurred in sterling. Appreciation of home country resulted in foreign exchange risk and economic exposure. So here in this report we are providing the factors that led to the economic exposure and inflation affect on the company. We are providing various financial and non–financial alternatives that Rolls Royce should consider while entering in the contract to eliminate or reduce the Exchange risk. INTRODUCTION Rolls Royce Limited is the British owned company which manufactures the aero engines. The engines manufactured by the company are supplied to the America. Cyberpunk Definitional Paper Cyberpunk Definitional Paper In the late 1970's and early '80's and new type of writing style came about that relied on many of the traditional criteria to be called science fiction, but had a certain something else that had many people agreeing that it was not just science fiction. This new style of writing was so different and so many people started writing in this style that the general public decided that it was time this genre of writing deserved a label: cyberpunk. Cyberpunk is not an easy group of writing to define on paper, but it is easy to spot when one is reading it. This is not to say that cyberpunks do not have there fair share of far flung imaginative human interface hookups and so forth, but they are talking about technology that if it were to be developed, it would be within the writers life time or so. The other difference in the technology that is described in cyberpunk is how it is used. Almost every person in the stories has access to the technology. More importantly, the technology involved normally allows for extreme human inter–action with it. The writer will make computers and humans connect, and allow the computer to alter the mind, human social behaviors, and/or society itself. Cyberpunk futures make computers not only become a part of everyday life, but a integral element for survival and prosperity. This aspect is the main plot in Gibson's novel. His main character, Chase, needs to find a way to reverse the damage in a chip in his head for him to do the type of work he wanted to do. Before cyberpunk, humans had control over thier technology, and it was a separate entity, but now the distinction over how much a person is human and how much of them are machine is not so clear. Now humans have lost the ability to control thier technology. Another important feature of cyberpunk is the integration of everyday events and items that affect people the most. Our analysis will evaluate the feasibility of Sterling's international expansion via exporting, licensing and branching. SITUATION ANALYSIS: Market Segmentation (SWOT) Strengths –Significantly higher market demand than in Canada (162k–192k vs. 87K) Weaknesses –Barriers to entry include, high number of competitors, high exchange rate, high initial capital requirements, cultural differences among sales people (perhaps not as aggressive as in Canada, resulting in lower sales) –Lack of current Sterling brand identity –Development of bad reputation –Lack of die and embosser sub–assembly ... Over the past few years, unjustified shootings, rough treatments, and severe beatings have been on and off on our tv screens and on our phones. We hear various stories especially from minorities about their unforgettable encounters with police officers who hurt and accused them. One of the victims who faced police brutality was Alton Sterling from Los Angeles. In the article "Alton Sterling And When Black Lives Stop Mattering" by Roxane Gay, she clearly explains the death of Mr. Sterling in the hands of police officers. Gay discusses the event as when Mr. Sterling was selling bootleg CDs outside a convenience store and was tasered by two police officers but was shot to death later on. She writes, "The body cameras the police officers were wearing "dangled," according to the police department's spokesman, L'Jean McKneely, so we don't know how much of the events leading to Mr. Sterling's death were captured". Gay includes why there were no further investigation was involved later that night, which she also writes, "Mr. McKneely said the officers were not questioned last night because "we give officers normally a day or so to go home and think about it"". In some cases, body cameras that are attached onto them can capture events, except in Mr. Sterling's case which makes it very suspicious. Gay talks about how anxious she gets to the fact that many guns are triggered against black people and how many families are grieving each time a police officer kills an innocent black man. These kinds of cases make a minority feel like their voices do not matter. Due to these cases, many minorities especially African–Americans feel unsafe and scared. • 20. Speculative Bombing : Speculative Attack Chris Grabel Professor Yuan International Monetary Economics 16 December 2016 Speculative Attack What Is Speculative Attack? A speculative attack is a precipitous acquisition of assets such as gold, currency, or permits, by previously inactive speculators. A speculative attack is caused by the massive selling of a country's currency by both domestic and foreign investors. Countries that use a fixed exchange rate (an exchange rate that is fixed against that of another currency, or a basket of currencies) are much more at risk to a speculative attack than those that use a floating exchange rate. This is because countries with a fixed exchange rate tend to hold a lot more reserves than those with a floating exchange rate. Countries have two choices when undergoing a speculative attack, they can either maintain a fixed exchange rate, or withdraw their currency. If a country were to maintain their fixed exchange rate, they run the risk of having a serious economic depression or a financial collapse. If a country has a fixed exchange rate, the country's central bank must maintain the given price of the currency with that of the foreign currencies participating. If the central bank is unable to defend the currency during a speculative attack, they may be able to sell the currency in exchange for foreign currencies anticipating that when the bank runs out of reserves it will be forced to stop defending the currency at this price. It has a huge presence in the international market and this is due primarily to its exorbitant privilege. Exorbitant privilege is the benefit that the US is able to enjoy due to the dollar's status as the currency used for international reserves. Many economists have criticized this privilege of the US, including Barry Eichengreen. Eichengreen presents the argument that the dollar should not be the only currency that is used in the International Monetary System (IMS) and that despite its history, it no longer has a reason to be the only currency in the global economy, believing that the IMS would benefit from having multiple international currencies. He argues this by presenting the history of the economies throughout the world that have led to this point. His presents his argument in his book Exorbitant Privilege: The Rise and Fall of the Dollar and the Future of the International Monetary System. The dollar is the most widely used and most influential currency throughout the globe. This has allowed it to do many things including having other countries rely on it. Lindsey Sterling, an American violinist, dancer, performance artist and composer, picked up learning the violin at age 5. Since then Sterling was in a band at age 16, introduced her own YouTube channel in 2007, and was a quarter finalist on Americas Got Talent in 2010. Americas Got Talent gained her both popularity and more traffic on her YouTube Channel and since 2010 Sterling has released two studio albums, an EP and a couple of singles. Her songs are an dynamic mix of Celtic folk music, modern classical, dancing and electronic. The eighth–most watched video of 2012, "Crystalize", is an infusion of a classical instrument, the violin, and modern day musical composition, dubstep. Lindsey Sterling, the solo violinist, is so passionate about the music that she writes that when she plays the violin its as if her body is the extension of the notes being played and is part of her expression. The interplay between soft tones, different level of volumes, variation between single, double, and triple rhythms, contrast between the violin and the drum machine, its rich texture and the way in which electrical music dissipates and then reenters creating a perfect juxtaposition with the violin really elevates the music to the audience. All of this elements together give it an eastern feel and I get the impression that without the dubstep and electronic music, this composition would not be special, and with the violin it would be nothing different than an ordinary modern day ... The two officers involved in the shooting have been identified as 28 year old Blane Salamoni, and 28 year old Howie Lake II. Both officers used physical force to bring Mr. Sterling to the ground, but it is unclear through the video which officer used their gun to shoot Mr. Sterling or if both officers shot him. They could have also resorted to using the Taser gun on him again once he was on the ground instead of pulling out their guns. By doing this I feel as though the situation would have gone more calmly than it did. It would have prevented anyone from getting shot which would have allowed officers to fulfill their four goals which were stated before. Sterling would have never been killed, and everyone's safety would have been protected. If this situation were looked at from a hypothetical standpoint things could have turned out differently. Sterling could have gained possession of his gun while they were wrestling and shot off a few rounds before the officers shot him, or Sterling might have just let the officers take the weapon from him before things escalated. The second hypothetical scenario would have been the best outcome because everyone would have been safe, the officers would have made their arrest and Sterling's rights would not have been ... Some people think we are not good enough the way we are, and want to create a 'perfect' person. We have been given the ability to learn how to heal sickness and fix wounds with science. However, we have a responsibility to use this information wisely. We have been created with unique gifts and those gifts are important to the enhancement of life. Likewise, while researching about the Author of "The Perfect Stranger", Amy Sterling Casil, I have discovered that she also has similar feelings about the gifts that we have all been given. We need to consider a few things as we review Casil's story "The Perfect Stranger". First, medical advancement is a great thing. Next, we need to make sure we are taking responsible steps while advancing and not creating even more division in our society. And lastly, we need to make sure we don't lose our diversity and unique qualities. Although, some people believe genetic modification is what we need to better the human race, in actuality genetic modification can be dangerous, because overstepping our boundaries will produce something that is no longer authentic or that is unable to relate on a genuine level. Casil's "The Perfect Stranger" is a futuristic sci–fi story about a child, Denny, that had a heart defect in utero and the doctors corrected it via genetic modification.
