Comedian Dave Barry Analysis
Laughter is the best medicine for anything and everything. Little do we know there is a lot of
thought behind all of these jokes that make you laugh. Comedians uses various different techniques
to make the world guffaw or even just chuckle. Author and Comedian Dave Barry wrote a low
comedic wrote a novel titled Live Right and Find Happiness. In an excerpt from Barry's novel he
humorously tells his grandson how to be a good and nice person using verbal Irony and Hyperbole.
Some of the funniest situations are the ones you are not expecting. Barry uses a lot of verbal irony in
this excerpt, so this was big reason that this writing made me laugh. For example while Barry is
writing to his son he writes "Don't bully, and don't hit people, unless

Character Analysis Of I Totally Funniest
I Totally Funniest is written in the perspective of a middle school aged boy who has just qualified
for the world's funniest kid competition. This is not like a spelling bee or math competition, this is
where kids show off how funny they can be for one million dollars. The author, James Patterson, has
one over ten reader's choice awards and has had some of his books become movies such as Along
Came a Spider that starred Morgan Freeman. He has written other books including Women's Murder
Club, Maximum Ride, NYPD Red, Middle School, and Michael Bennett. Patterson is even involved
in his family company called The Patterson Family Foundation that has given over $26 million to
over twenty–five colleges/schools which helps children grasp the ... Show more content on

Uncle Frankie is a very close person to Jamie due to him helping perfect Jamie's comedy act and
even once went to the yo–yo Olympics where he won gold. Stevie Smiley is the typical bully except
that is Jamie's cousin, but ends up being one of his body guards only for half of the million dollars.
Max Weasley is Jamie's manager that gives him a very vague introduction to the showbiz world and
only cares about the money as well. There are several competitors in the competition from Ben
Baccaro who is considered by many a ladies man, Grafton Maddox Bacardi uses Larry the Cable
Guy jokes, Patricia Dowbrowski is also known as Chatty Patty, Rebecca and Rachel Klein who are
identical twins, and Judy Nazemetz who is one of the nicest towards Jamie expect that she got a
little close to him. Characters wouldn't behave the way they do in the story if it weren't for the
settings because the settings depict how the character(s) is being presented in the story. In this book,
there is an abounding amount of settings that play important roles in how the characters are feeling
or what kind of actions they are displaying. The first setting takes places in a suburb of New York
City called Long Beach where Jamie works at his Uncle's restaurant and goes to Long Beach middle
school where he is constantly being surrounded by fans. This is where he mostly practiced his
comedy act and grabbed the attention of everyone in his little town when a terrible event happened

10 Broadway Musicals
Broadway musicals have always been a huge part of my life. They can add emotion to a story that
dialogue can't quite capture. Over the years, after listening to countless scores, I have developed a
list of my favorite 10 . This is Lindsay Bullock coming to you from me casa and I will be presenting
the 10 musicals you must see before you die. Number 10 is Baz Luhrmann's Moulin Rouge. While
this is not a stage musical, it is still a must–see Oscar nominated film. It stars Ewan Mcgregor and
Nicole Kidman and tells the story of a poet who falls in love with a female entertainer. It is a
beautifully done love story that must be seen At number 9 is In the Heights by Lin Manuel Miranda.
It is the story of a young store owner whose hopes at dreams are tested by the trials that ... Show

Those names may sound familiar to some people. Thats becase these two men also created South
Park. So if you think this is a religious musical, think again. If you are offended easily do not go.
But if you can take jokes with a light heart, see it asap becuase it is the funniest musical I have ever
seen. At number 3 is the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee by Rachel Sheinkin. The plot is
simple enough, a grade school spelling bee, but what makes this musical so special is the story
behind each of the characters. Each character has some problem, whether its pverbearing dads,
neglectful mother, or puberty. Every viewer can relate to it at some point or another. Number 2
Hamilton by Lin Manuel Miranda. How could this not be on the list. This is one of the most
influential musicals ever written, an everyone must see it! Including me because I havent seen it yet.
And finally at number one is Shrek the Musical by David Lindsay–Abaire. Duh. This musical is a
pure work of art. It tells the story of a lonely ogre finding true love. Its on netflix too. Go wath it,

Redhead Stereotypes
Life as a redhead is tough when you don't have a soul. It is extremely difficult living life without
sympathy or the inability to be kind towards others. In my mind I feel like I want to do these things,
but being a "ginger," I just can't. I want to feel bad for people with blonde, black, brown, or
whatever other color of hair there is, but since I have red hair I just can't. I want to feel bad for all
those other hair colors who don't like as stunning as we do, but I just can't. Living without a soul is
the hardest part of being a redhead, but everything else is gravy.
The redhead stereotypes make me laugh. Obviously the one about us not having a soul, that we
supposedly have a fiery temper, that we can't get tan. In the wise words of James ... Show more

I'm the only one at my school with red hair so naturally I get all the attention. The benefits of being
a redhead are incredible. For starters, I never have to worry about the effects of the sun because I am
intelligent and make sure to lather myself with the highest grade of SPF sunblock there is. My
preference is Banana Boat for Men SPF 30, but anything lower than that is unacceptable. The
second benefit of my beautiful hair is all the compliments I receive from older ladies that see me for
the first time. It is almost guaranteed that when I am introduced to a lady who appears to be a
grandmother, the first thing out of her mouth is, "Oh My Goodness! I love your hair!" So I feel
pretty special when that happens. No other hair color can boast that like we can. Another great
benefit of being a redhead is that people automatically assume that you are a comedian. You can say
something and people will think it is the funniest thing on the planet. People look at redheads and
laugh all the time. I like to think they are laughing with us and not at us though. But this puts a lot of
pressure on us because we have to provide the world with comedy or else it will fall into oblivion
perhaps. Probably not, but it is nice getting recognition from people that we have a sense of humor.
The last benefit is the holidays that we get. If you are a ginger and don't know about National Kiss a
GInger day, then you have been missing out. One day in the whole year where someone kisses you
because you have red hair. How incredible is that? A free kiss because you were born with red hair.
In my opinion this is one of the greatest benefits of being a ginger. In the end people may laugh at us
or with us, but they will never truly get to feel the absolute joy it is to be a redhead everyday of the

My First Semester At The Ohio State University Essay
If you can't make it better, you can laugh at it. I found this quote by American columnist Erma
Bombeck about a month into my first semester at The Ohio State University. I liked it–a lot. So
much that I wrote it in sprawling letters on the dry erase board that I had been using to scribble my
"motivational quote of the week" and I never erased it. I could not have known at the time how
Erma's words would transform from something my roommate and I would say flippantly about bad
first dates and failed quizzes, into a philosophy that would carry me through four years of studies
and shape the person I am today. I needed laughter desperately during those first few months of
college. My grades were bad, my family was in crisis, I felt friendless and alone and I did not know
who I was or what I was doing. Those first few months felt like I was stumbling through a dark an
unfamiliar room, looking for lamp to turn on. Stumbling through that darkness I eventually found
myself in the basement of a university building auditioning for Fishbowl Improv. I had come to
fishbowl auditions on a whim. Bijan, the boy who lived across the hall, told me I should try out with
him, and so I did. Nobody was more surprised that I was when I got the call that I made it in.
My time in fishbowl taught me more than I could have ever guessed there was to learn. Most of all, I
learned that I hadn't been taking laughter seriously enough. Comedy feels like an instinct until you
apply yourself to it.

Pinky Out: A Short Story
He heard the click of a gun first, and it was hard not to laugh like that soft click was the funniest
thing in the whole world. The funniest joke he'd ever heard in his entire life. "In fifteen years, there's
been only one person who's ever gotten the drop on me." He angled his head back, not daring to
look at the gunmen, letting the mystery unfold before him. He's a wait–and–see man, she knows he
always has been. Careful consideration, and exertion at the right moments; he'd taught her that and
it'd been a hard lesson to learn. Not the hardest, but certainly hard. "And I know that person's dead."
"Absolutely certain, are you? Does a ghost have a gun on you?" "I guess she must." He turned to
face her, slowly, and then he actually did laugh, shaking his head at her, from down the barrel of her
gun. "You look ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

sipped and she shot the bottle, splintering shards of thick, green beer bottle glass into his hand and
face. "I'd say you're done now," She clicked her tongue at him. The pathetic stammering and
sputtering means he's still alive, and only for the moment that's okay with her. "What i don't
understand is how you could turn on your best friend. Even a bastard like you needs a moral code, I
just can't pin it down." "He wasn't my best friend anymore. You made him unrecognizable, you
changed him, you know that. You'd say jump and he'd say how high. We did him a favor." Dick spit
his blood in her face, barely earning himself a flinch. "Which of you put the bullet in my head?" The

Descriptive Essay About Love
I like boys. I always have and I know I always will. My first kiss was when I was three years old
underneath a table at my preschool. For as long as I can remember, I have had an uncontrollable
romantic side. Watching Disney movies where the princess gets saved by the prince were my
favorite. My parents' relationship also influences the way I view love because my mom and dad
seemed to be the perfect couple. I am the oldest of three girls, so I'm no stranger to getting spoiled. I
have always expected my future boyfriend to treat me the same or even better because my dad
always treated me like the most beautiful girl in the world. Ideas of a perfect relationship all started
when I dreamed of my fifth grade crush coming to my dance recital and kissing me behind the stage.
That romantic side of me controlled a large portion of my imagination and I looked forward to
meeting a boy that would be fully committed to me as my parents are to each other. Once I hit
middle school, I continued to indulge in these unrealistic romantic notions once liking a boy
transformed into a different feeling. Unfortunately, I was a homily looking person during these years
so these feelings were never reciprocated. Attending a small private school with thirty other people
in my grade did not help much either. At the beginning of high school, my breasts grew from a size
A to a D practically overnight and my chubby cheeks had disappeared due to puberty finally kicking
in. My newly matured body had given

8th Grade I Revealed-Personal Narrative
When I was in 8th grade I was bullied because of rumor going around school. Well, less of a rumor
more of an "oh I don't want anyone to know" type of thing. I don't want to say it because of reasons.
Anyway in 8th grade I was very, how do I put this, naïve. I thought everyone was my friend. I
thought everyone was going to nice. I thought that if I was nice to others they would be nice. But I
was wrong. So wrong. It started when someone was whispering about me in class. My friend since
she was in 6th grade, Austin, who is a year under me, pointed them out to me. "what do you think
they are talking about?" She whispered. "Judging by the pointing and laughing, I'd say they were
talking about me," I replied. Austin being the friend she is decided to see what they were saying.
Now I just shrugged it off. At the time I didn't really care what anyone had to say about me. So, I
wasn't worried per say. That was until Austin walked back over to me with a scared look on her face.
I gave her a confused look. "what is it?" I asked. Silence. "Austin what is it? What are they saying?"

"They know." And she said it so quietly that I could barely hear her, but I did. And I wish I hadn't.
They know. They know the secret that I've trying to keep for so long. Not even my mother knew,
well now she does, but back then she didn't. I started to freak out. My breathing became erratic.
Then in the mist of the mini freak out, I heard, " how could you do something like that?" the disgust
in their voice was enough to make me run into the dressing room. the tears started falling down my
face like a waterfall. I didn't know what to do. I felt as if someone had just stabbed me in the heart
repeatedly. Another friend of mine in class, Amya, came flying towards

everyone works together. They embrace each other and everything that makes us different. They

America is called the melting pot of the world. Immigrants have done great things for the industrys
of our nation. Many immigrants have positively influenced the industrys of science, entertainment
and entrepreneurship. As one may know Einstein is one of the greatest scientists of all time, and He
positively changed the science industry. However he was an immigrant from Germany. Einstein did
so much for science. He made the most famous equation ever, E=MC>2(Albert Einstein Facts). This
means energy equals mass multiplied by the speed of light squared(Albert Einstein Facts). One of
Einstein's most famous theories is the theory of the singularity. This is still a theory because it has
not been proven. The reason why this theory has not been proven yet is because to find out if the
singularity is real you would have to go to the center of a black hole. What the singularity is space
time; because the gravity is so strong at the center of a black hole Everything we have studied about
physics just stops(Uggla). It is a really hard theory to understand. Next his general relativity theory

Immediately, an ad came that said: Do you know jokes? Do you want to know the best joke in the
world? Sign up and come to 422 Haha Lane on November sixteenth! There was a laughing emoji

large piles around the room. A large man and three other suited men walked out of the shadows. I

Gender And Gender Roles In Kevin Hart's Comedy Standup
Gender roles in comedy are significant in how women and men perceive one another. How a male
and female allow others to talk to them is a mutual agreement between dominance and control.
According to Deborah Tannen, in But What Do You Mean, "Unfortunately, women and men often
have different ideas about what is appropriate, different ways of speaking." Meaning, when women
and men allow another to talk to them about topics that are not usually taken lightly there is a thin
line between being truthful and telling a joke. The main subject of the joke and what is actually,
"funny" can be mocking or derogatory. The sense of humor in a male and female can be on two
different spectrums. Usually, female humor is self–lowering can be seen as ... Show more content on

She is the one who got cheated on in front of her children, and family. To the majority of the United
States, she is seen as the joke of infidelity in marriage. Hart's comedy calls to allow boys to be boys,
but girls to need to be accountable for their actions and words. His ex–wife for years allowed Hart to
publicly bash her, and put aside her career, children, and self–worth. Torrei Hart stood in the
shadows of her ex– husband's career so he could prosper. She played the gender role of women,
being submissive and allowing her cheating husband to broadcast her hurt all over social media.
Facing, "Women humor," it can be traced back to being slick and sly, and not being too aggressive to
the point where it would overstep a male's dominance. Women are funny but in a slick and
condescending way. Although, "male humor," have no need for excuses for the words and public
humiliation they cause. If Torrei Hart addressed Hart in the same way she would be seen as a crazy
ex–wife who is trying to gain publicity. She would not have been seen as the single mother of two
who is just trying to defend herself against publicly humiliated.
As Tannen addresses also, "I'm sorry isn't self–deprecating, or even an apology; it's an automatic
way of keeping both speakers on equal footing." Why does a woman always feel the need to be
equal with her counter–partner?

" Hey, McKenna do you want to see my toy that I just created?" I replied with a yes of course I

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" had a stranglehold on the number two spot on my most anticipated
movies of the year list, behind only a certain eight episode. Its predecessor is one of the best movies
in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and this one reunited the people who made that movie so great.
Nevertheless, I did not expect this sequel to top the original. Instead, I thought it would be an
extremely fun time at the movies that was not quite as good as "Guardians of the Galaxy." I was
right, but this movie made it a far closer contest than I guessed.

By that I mean I think Gunn could have made this movie at least as equally epic and grand as the
original and still had the intimacy he was so clearly striving for. The narrative here just wasn't as
gripping or engaging as the first one, in part because the heroes didn't have some epic mission to
complete for the majority of the film. I was still in the story, but not as much as I could have been.
Lastly, the soundtrack here needs a few words. "Guardians of the Galaxy" features one of my
favorite soundtracks of all time, so this one had a lot to live up to, though once again I didn't expect
it to much that greatness. Well, it's fantastic, though not as memorable or quirky as the first one.
There is no "Hooked on A Feeling" song this time, one that is inseparable from the movie. But the
musical choices Gunn makes are still pretty spot on and they work in the moment. He just set

for goodness sakes! Well, Jenna Marbles is a YouTube sensation known for her comedic videos. So
when a person who has watched her videos before hears that the sole purpose of her video "How To
Talk To Animals" is just to entertain the viewer, he or she is not surprised.Animal Rescue Club is
looking for a good quality video that will teach its members how to talk to animals in order to better
our relationships with them. With this being said, watching this video will give us a good laugh,
however if we are looking on ways to better our relationships with animals, then this video is not for
us. In Jenna Marbles' video, "How To Talk To Animals," the very plain background draws attention
to her good looks and charm. She also uses a lot of humor and very good audio and video quality to
keep the viewer entertained throughout the whole video. The background consists of nothing but a
brown wall, her white bed sheets, a mirror, and a simple spiderman picture hanging on the wall.

For example, Brendan Johnson, DeSmet senior, wrote, "Jenna Marbles' "How to Talk to Animals" is
an uncomfortable, cringe worthy attempt at comedy. After 10 seconds, I couldn't wait for it to be

than professional dog whisperer, Cesar Millan. Marbles says, "Let me tell you, Cesar Millan, dog

21 Jump Street Film Techniques
Comedy is all about timing and many of cinema's funniest jokes would not have landed if it weren't
for the perfectly timed cut to a reaction shot or a smart change in perspective. Although editors are
the ones usually controlling the comedy, they don't always get the credit they deserve and remain the
unsung heroes of the genre. In the 2012 comedy "21 Jump Street", editor Joel Negron deserves a lot
of credit for the film being as funny and unexpected as it is. His timing feels appropriate, as he
knows just how long to pause on Hill's expressionless face before cutting to the more energetic
Tatum. With the use of montages, he introduces the two characters performing something absurd as
he smoothly time cuts to a new bit before the previous one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

An easy way to take that scene would've been to go down the action route, packing it with
explosions, while Tatum and Hill throw cheap dialogue jokes back and forth. Instead, the film
wisely prefers to play with the framework and uses various techniques to make this sequence be as
funny and unexpected as it is.
Trying to escape from a motocycle gang, Schmidt and Jenko end up in a freeway chase. For the two,
who expect their careers to be similar with what they've experienced on TV, things don't quite go as
planned. Joel Negron makes the sequence a showcase for comic timing and stylizes the editing of
the scene with something that approaches a cartoonish sensibility when two trucks (including a huge
stenciled "Oil & Fuel") come in path of bullets and crashing motorcycles but...nothing happens. The
same set up repeats itself as the expected explosion is now expected to be even larger. The editor
goes into a close up of the flammable liquids pouring in the bridge, reinforcing the idea of an
explosion into the audience's mind, then goes wider and wider on his shots, showing the bridge in an
establishing shot in order to create space for a spectacle of an explosion that again... never happens.
Jenko and Schmidt can't believe nothing happens again when one of the motorcyclists falls into an
innocent chicken truck that is never likely to cause an explosion, but unexpectedly does! A method
that suggests that sometimes the buildup, can be more effective than the punch line. To live up the
comedy and suspense in this scene the filmmakers are using the following

The Complexity Of Friends In The Tv Show
The tv show Friends is the most funniest and meaningful sitcom of all time. It is about six friends,
three men and three women, who live in the same apartment complex in New York and face life
together as a family. This wonderful sitcom displays the real meaning of friendship and loyalty.
They live their most crazy, funny, and sad moments together. They help guide and support each
other through their tough times. Even though, many people, including myself, may consider the
sitcom Friends as the funniest show ever, many other people disagree; some people think it is
boring, not funny, and very predictable. Each of the characters in the sitcom have a funny
personality of their own. One of the characters is Monica Geller played by Courteney Cox. ... Show

One of the odd traits about Chandler is that he hates Thanksgiving. When he was nine years old, his
parents announced that they were getting a divorce while eating Thanksgiving dinner and also his
father was having an affair with the houseboy. As a result, he refuses to celebrate Thanksgiving
traditionally and eat Thanksgiving dinner. Another character is Phoebe Buffay. She is played by Lisa
Kudrow. Her personality is very outgoing, impulsive, spontaneous, and friendly. She also has an
unbelievable imagination; she created a doll house out of shoe boxes with a slide, an aroma room,
licorice room, and a bubble machine. Also, she has a weird side which she really shows with her
songs. One of her famous songs is called "smelly cat." Furthermore, Rachel Green is another
character in this great sitcom. She is played by Jennifer Aniston. Rachel is caring, loyal, and
dependable. One of the most enjoyable episodes with Rachel is when she sings with Ross, her
baby's father, "Baby Got Back" to her baby daughter to make her laugh. Finally, Ross Geller is one
of the characters that I most enjoyed in the sitcom. He is introverted, caring, shy, and trustworthy. In
one episode, he wanted to show his friends that he knew how to flirt so he was going to flirt with the
pizza delivery girl. Instead Ross ended up talking about different smells of gas with her. All of the
characters have different personalities, but that makes their friendship

Before You Exit Research Paper
When I first found out that Orlando–based pop band Before You Exit had never signed a record deal
until last month, I was absolutely shocked. Although their line–up has changed quite a bit over the
years, Before You Exit has been producing music and touring all over the world since their
formation in 2007. However, this "formation" was more of a natural coming–together, as the group
consists of brothers Connor McDonough (21), Riley McDonough (19), and Toby McDonough (17).
On Saturday, August 8th, I got the opportunity to interview the boys of Before You Exit at Club
Nokia, a few hours before they took the stage on their final night as an opening act for The Vamps.
"I wish it was longer," 19–year–old Riley states about their tour with British group The Vamps.
"But, I'm excited because we're going, tomorrow, back into the studio, so it's not totally bad because
we get to work on new music." Youngest McDonough brother Toby chimes in with, "We love these
guys, and it's gonna be hard to say good–bye. It's gonna be a crying fest," and Connor jokes, "I'm
sure we'll see them again soon," as the trio fake sobs into their hands. Riley continues, "This tour is

he tells the funniest jokes I have ever heard. His recent joke was how the chicken crossed the road

Thirdly, I'm thankful for teachers. If we didn't have teachers we wouldn't not be able to learn. For

reason why I'm thankful for teachers.

Once upon a time there was a farmer and his three sons. Also, there was a king who wanted the
princess to laugh. One day, the farmer made the three sons go to the farm to collect some garbage.
In the forest the oldest son found a bottle of soda and a bunch of eaten apples lying on the floor. The
second son found bags of chips and a container. Finally, the youngest son, Pepe found a chicken that
was lost on the farm. So, he took the chicken to his house, Drinkwater (Drinkwater is a tavern
name). When farmer got back to check his results for the day and the farmer was confused because

Stereotypes Vs Women
Are men known scientifically to be funnier than women or is it just another stereotype? In the
popular press article the authors, Peter McGraw and Joel Warner, show evidence to explain why
people may think men are funnier than women. The authors first talk about how comedians are
usually guys all over the world from Manhattan to Tokyo, men are more likely to create funnier
cartoons, stand–up comedy is traditionally a male–dominated field, and men's online dating profiles
are comedic. The article then rebuttals that argument by explaining in McGraw's class his students
had a joke writing competition and based on a survey the men won, but only to a small degree. The
authors explain men's jokes are offensive and distasteful and the highest rated joke was written by a
woman, thus woman are funnier according the authors (McGraw). In the academic article, a group
of researchers implemented two experiments to test the theory that men are funnier than women.
The first experiment was to get 32 participants to create captions for 20 cartoons and the participants
were half women and half men. There were a group of 81 undergraduates that rated the captions of
the cartoons, saying if they thought they were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

specific area. They also state in the 2011 research there was a sample size of 250, and they stated
their claim clearly at the end of the article (McGraw). The academic article changed my willingness
to support the findings. However, I didn't change my willingness to support the popular press article

Essay on Some Like It Hot
Some Like It Hot is an American screwball comedy film directed by Billy Wilder and featuring
Marilyn Monroe as Sugar, Tony Curtis as Joe, and Jack Lemon as Jerry. Joe and Jerry are struggling
musicians who accidentally witness a mob hit and become targets. To hide from the mob, they flee
the state as members of a traveling women's band, where further complications set in. They quickly
become besotted with the lead singer, Sugar, who in unable to recognize that her band mates are
really men masquerading as women.
Like most popular gender–bending films, Some Like It Hot calls us to critique constructions of

The prohibition setting allows transgression to be seen as accepted and normal for ordinary people.
The criminalization of alcohols serves to demonstrate how personal choice can be incorporated
under institutionalized morality. Furthermore, the setting creates a distance between reality and the
subject of the film for the more conservative viewer, which is one of the justifications as to why the
film was done in black and white.
The film is a crafty combination of many components including a spoof of period gangster films,
romance in screwball comedies, and gender reversal and cross–dressing. Evidently, one of the major
themes in the film is disguise and masquerade. In its time, Some Like It Hot was the highest–
grossing comedy, one of the most successful films in 1959, and undoubtedly Wilder's funniest
comedy. The film was based on a German movie, Fanfares of Love, directed by Kurt Hoffmann with
similar plot elements borrowed by Wilder. The events in the movie were inspired by the infamous
St. Valentine's Day Massacre in Chicago. At the time of its release, the United States was at the end
of the repressive 1950's and the studio system was weakened as a result of censorship restrictions.
The film received much criticism for its risqué subjects of double–entendre dialogue and gender
bending theme. Wilder purposely challenged the system with Some Like It Hot, filling it with sexual
innuendos and stereotypes and a

Why Does Shakespeare Use Comic Relief In Hamlet
Hamlet
Shakespeare uses humor in Hamlet to distract from the tragedies and dark plot turns throughout the
play. Shakespeare puts these comedy scenes either directly before or directly after a scene of great
intensity. He used these comic reliefs as a break for the audience; Shakespeare knew that this was
almost overwhelmingly emotion to the audience. There's only so much intensity that his audiences
could take, after every death or emotional tragedy there has to be some sort of humor to allow the
audience to relax for a little bit. Normally in a tragedy there's a minimum of five people who die. In
hamlet there's many more that, this is a major reason of why Shakespeare uses comic relief in this
story. The gravedigger scene is one of the best ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was put in place to help lighten the mood after one of the biggest tragedies in the play which
was Ophelia's death. Shakespeare however didn't give all of his characters a sense of humor, there
were a few smaller characters he put in there with a sense of humor, but Hamlet was the one
character that had that sense of humor. Hamlet likes to play games with language, he likes to parody
other characters verbal style, and he has a predilection for puns and bawdy double entendres.
Shakespeare did have many different reasons for putting comedy in Hamlet. There's the purpose of
entertainment where you can see his comedy be anywhere from dirty jokes to very sophisticated
humor. The main reason of the comedy in Hamlet was for the purpose of comic relief. These
comedic scenes always take place before or after a tragic scene. We already talked about the fact that
these scenes also helped out the audience because if the play was just straight tragedies the
emotional toll that the audience would have to go through would just be too much. We can even
compare how he used this to movies and tv shows today, in action movies and dramas there were
always those comedic scenes to relieve the tension. So besides entertainment purposes comedy was
mainly used as a source of relief in

An important tradition I have with my family is opening presents on Christmas Eve with my

Is Pop Culture Really Making Us Dumb?
Is Pop Culture Really Making Us Dumb? Everyone has been told at least once in his or her lives
watching too much TV is bad for you. Some will argue it makes you dumb or don't believe
everything you see on TV and even "TV kills brain cells". This goes for all types of media not only
TV. Others would argue that television and social media actually educate us, and even say things
that should be said, but never do. With the rise of all these new types of media in the 21st century
like Hollywood films, new TV shows, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc. the question is, Is Pop
culture actually good for you? Since the start of the 21st century new TV shows and social media
have been on the rise. For example Steven Johnson brings up the hit drama 24 that used to come on
Fox, the show focused on terrorism and it also was known for its violent torture scenes to extract
information from the terrorists. Some articles are saying that those torture scenes in the hit series 24
influenced the abuse of prisoners by American military in Iraq and Guantanamo. I think that is
totally wrong to say that a TV show influenced that violence its common sense that if you're trying
to get information out of someone you hate and on top of that they're a prisoner/ linked to terrorism,
and they wont give it to you, of course your next resort will be to use violence. Also hasn't TV
shows and movies especially military's ones been based off real life situations not the other way
around. Another reason why

Is Pop Culture Good Or Bad?
Everyone is surrounded by popular culture in our society today. It is everywhere. From watching
TV, to reading magazines, being on social media, and just browsing the internet. Popular culture is
the entirety of ideas, perspectives, attitudes, images, and other phenomena that are within the
mainstream of a given culture. The question is popular culture good or bad?
Pop Culture has a great impact on our society of today. The main problem with pop culture is that
some people think that it can dumb us down, and also that it promotes violence in today's youth. It
could actually do the exact opposite. Pop Culture is just another thing to learn about in life. It could
actually help us think more complex to figure out what is going to happen in the next episode in
your favorite TV show. It could even have the youth reading at an early age just to figure out what is
happening in the magazines, and to be able to text their friends. Also it could help us learn more
about the issues in today's world through the use of browsing the internet. The main issues that will
be covered through this paper are: how modern TV can enlighten the audience, the use of social
media in political movements, and the effects on how pop culture can educate the youth of today. To
begin with we will look at the issue of how modern TV can enlighten the audience. The author
Stephen Johnson makes the argument of how TV is more complex, therefore it makes you smarter,

Halloween
Throughout the U.S, significant holidays are celebrated, and for many, Halloween is one of the most
favorable. Every year, 65% of Americans decorate their homes and offices for Halloween. Being
such a unique holiday, many will make Halloween into a month long celebration by doing fall
themed activities. This includes carving pumpkins, going to haunted houses, eating lots of candy,
and bonfires. Halloween is one of the oldest, most celebrated holidays on Earth, and it brings out the
inner child in all of us. First, we must look back to the birthplace of Halloween, Ireland. Halloween
is believed to have originated from the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people would light
bonfires and wear costumes to scare off spirits. This is why to this day, children and even adults
wear costumes on Halloween. Whether its DIY or store bought, costumes are one of the main
elements of Halloween. However, in the eighth century, Pope Gregory III designated November 1 as
"All Saints' Day", a day to honor all of the celebrated saints and martyrs. Gregory kept some of the
traditions of Samhain, and made the night before All Saint's day "All Hallows' Eve", which later
became known as Halloween. Perotta 2 Over time, Halloween evolved into a grand, community–
based event centered around child–friendly activities, such as trick–or–treating. In many countries
around the world, as the days grow shorter and the nights get colder, people continue to usher in the

Inappropriate Memes
Recently, the world–renowned Harvard University was in the news. However, they made headlines
not for a ground–breaking study as they often have, but rather for kicking ten incoming students out.
These ten students were kicked out for posting inappropriate memes in a Facebook group chat. For
the uninitiated, a meme is a funny picture posted online. Memes have various formats, and there
were several different "types" of memes shared through this group chat. These memes contained
various tasteless themes such as anti–Semitism, pedophilia, and racism, among others. These memes
were offensive enough to result in the university revoking the students' offers of admission. While
these students are likely bright enough to attend another ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One example of this is the meme posted in the group chat that says, "when the mexican [sic] kid
hangs himself in the school bathroom" and has a picture of the words "piñata time." This is very
clearly inappropriate and offensive on a few different levels, relying on the shock value of the
suicide joke and the national stereotype of Mexicans using piñatas. But the fatal flaw of this meme
is the lack of any attempt at humor besides shock humor, which is extremely difficult to pull off and
usually only works if it's used in conjunction with another more standard joke. I believe that
offensive humor isn't inherently wrong or inappropriate, as long as it's actually humorous. To
provide an example of offensive humor that still manages to be funny, I point to the movie Blazing
Saddles, which is widely regarded as one of the funniest comedies ever, despite numerous racial
jokes. It manages to pull this off successfully by making sure that in addition to the shock humor,
there's more traditional jokes. The lack of this in the memes in the group chat is their fatal flaw.
Many people feel that controversial topics, such as racism or anti–Semitism, should be regarded as
off–limits when it comes to humor. These people argue that any joke about these topics is
inappropriate and always should be punished, or, at the very least, condemned, and to a certain
extent, I agree with

Reflection Paper
Life can change in the blink of an eye. One moment it is smiles and laughter and the next moment it
is tears and feelings of hopelessness. I never fully comprehended the reality of this life idea until I
was coming to the end of my freshman year of high school. Just like any other day at school, he was
radiating with joy and happiness. However, that night many lives changed. It was apparent to me
and many others that the radiating joy and happiness was fake. That specific night, May 2, 2017, his
joy turned to sorrow and his happiness turned to an excruciating pain. On this very night, my
innocence was stripped away and my outlook on life was drastically changed. Up until freshman
year I lived a fairly innocent life. I was not completely blind. I knew there was bad in the world, I
just was not aware of how bad things and people could possibly be. Before freshman year I was
quiet and did not talk to very many new people. I am still not the most outgoing person but I made a
lot of friends freshman year. Some were old friends I reunited with. Others were completely new
people I have never met before. Being a freshman, most of my other classes only had freshman in
them, except for my weights class. A majority of the people were upperclassmen. First semester I
had weights eighth mod. I enjoyed it and made a lot of new friends in that class. Second semester,
my resource and weights mods got switched. I then had weights seventh mod and resource eighth
mod. At first I was not

Comedian Dave Barry Analysis

  • 1. Comedian Dave Barry Analysis Laughter is the best medicine for anything and everything. Little do we know there is a lot of thought behind all of these jokes that make you laugh. Comedians uses various different techniques to make the world guffaw or even just chuckle. Author and Comedian Dave Barry wrote a low comedic wrote a novel titled Live Right and Find Happiness. In an excerpt from Barry's novel he humorously tells his grandson how to be a good and nice person using verbal Irony and Hyperbole. Some of the funniest situations are the ones you are not expecting. Barry uses a lot of verbal irony in this excerpt, so this was big reason that this writing made me laugh. For example while Barry is writing to his son he writes "Don't bully, and don't hit people, unless ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is not like a spelling bee or math competition, this is where kids show off how funny they can be for one million dollars. The author, James Patterson, has one over ten reader's choice awards and has had some of his books become movies such as Along Came a Spider that starred Morgan Freeman. He has written other books including Women's Murder Club, Maximum Ride, NYPD Red, Middle School, and Michael Bennett. Max Weasley is Jamie's manager that gives him a very vague introduction to the showbiz world and only cares about the money as well. • 9. 10 Broadway Musicals Broadway musicals have always been a huge part of my life. They can add emotion to a story that dialogue can't quite capture. Over the years, after listening to countless scores, I have developed a list of my favorite 10 . This is Lindsay Bullock coming to you from me casa and I will be presenting the 10 musicals you must see before you die. Number 10 is Baz Luhrmann's Moulin Rouge. While this is not a stage musical, it is still a must–see Oscar nominated film. It stars Ewan Mcgregor and Nicole Kidman and tells the story of a poet who falls in love with a female entertainer. It is a beautifully done love story that must be seen At number 9 is In the Heights by Lin Manuel Miranda. It is the story of a young store owner whose hopes at dreams are tested by the trials that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Those names may sound familiar to some people. Thats becase these two men also created South Park. So if you think this is a religious musical, think again. If you are offended easily do not go. But if you can take jokes with a light heart, see it asap becuase it is the funniest musical I have ever seen. At number 3 is the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee by Rachel Sheinkin. The plot is simple enough, a grade school spelling bee, but what makes this musical so special is the story behind each of the characters. Each character has some problem, whether its pverbearing dads, neglectful mother, or puberty. Every viewer can relate to it at some point or another. Number 2 Hamilton by Lin Manuel Miranda. How could this not be on the list. This is one of the most influential musicals ever written, an everyone must see it! Including me because I havent seen it yet. And finally at number one is Shrek the Musical by David Lindsay–Abaire. Duh. This musical is a pure work of art. It tells the story of a lonely ogre finding true love. Its on netflix too. • 13. Redhead Stereotypes Life as a redhead is tough when you don't have a soul. It is extremely difficult living life without sympathy or the inability to be kind towards others. In my mind I feel like I want to do these things, but being a "ginger," I just can't. I want to feel bad for people with blonde, black, brown, or whatever other color of hair there is, but since I have red hair I just can't. I want to feel bad for all those other hair colors who don't like as stunning as we do, but I just can't. Living without a soul is the hardest part of being a redhead, but everything else is gravy. The redhead stereotypes make me laugh. Obviously the one about us not having a soul, that we supposedly have a fiery temper, that we can't get tan. In the wise words of James ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I'm the only one at my school with red hair so naturally I get all the attention. The benefits of being a redhead are incredible. For starters, I never have to worry about the effects of the sun because I am intelligent and make sure to lather myself with the highest grade of SPF sunblock there is. My preference is Banana Boat for Men SPF 30, but anything lower than that is unacceptable. The second benefit of my beautiful hair is all the compliments I receive from older ladies that see me for the first time. It is almost guaranteed that when I am introduced to a lady who appears to be a grandmother, the first thing out of her mouth is, "Oh My Goodness! I love your hair!" So I feel pretty special when that happens. No other hair color can boast that like we can. Another great benefit of being a redhead is that people automatically assume that you are a comedian. You can say something and people will think it is the funniest thing on the planet. People look at redheads and laugh all the time. I like to think they are laughing with us and not at us though. But this puts a lot of pressure on us because we have to provide the world with comedy or else it will fall into oblivion perhaps. Probably not, but it is nice getting recognition from people that we have a sense of humor. The last benefit is the holidays that we get. If you are a ginger and don't know about National Kiss a GInger day, then you have been missing out. One day in the whole year where someone kisses you because you have red hair. How incredible is that? A free kiss because you were born with red hair. In my opinion this is one of the greatest benefits of being a ginger. In the end people may laugh at us or with us, but they will never truly get to feel the absolute joy it is to be a redhead everyday of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. My First Semester At The Ohio State University Essay If you can't make it better, you can laugh at it. I found this quote by American columnist Erma Bombeck about a month into my first semester at The Ohio State University. I liked it–a lot. So much that I wrote it in sprawling letters on the dry erase board that I had been using to scribble my "motivational quote of the week" and I never erased it. I could not have known at the time how Erma's words would transform from something my roommate and I would say flippantly about bad first dates and failed quizzes, into a philosophy that would carry me through four years of studies and shape the person I am today. I needed laughter desperately during those first few months of college. My grades were bad, my family was in crisis, I felt friendless and alone and I did not know who I was or what I was doing. Those first few months felt like I was stumbling through a dark an unfamiliar room, looking for lamp to turn on. Stumbling through that darkness I eventually found myself in the basement of a university building auditioning for Fishbowl Improv. I had come to fishbowl auditions on a whim. Bijan, the boy who lived across the hall, told me I should try out with him, and so I did. Nobody was more surprised that I was when I got the call that I made it in. My time in fishbowl taught me more than I could have ever guessed there was to learn. Most of all, I learned that I hadn't been taking laughter seriously enough. Comedy feels like an instinct until you apply yourself to it. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The funniest joke he'd ever heard in his entire life. "In fifteen years, there's been only one person who's ever gotten the drop on me." He angled his head back, not daring to look at the gunmen, letting the mystery unfold before him. He's a wait–and–see man, she knows he always has been. Careful consideration, and exertion at the right moments; he'd taught her that and it'd been a hard lesson to learn. Not the hardest, but certainly hard. "And I know that person's dead." "Absolutely certain, are you? Does a ghost have a gun on you?" "I guess she must." • 25. Descriptive Essay About Love I like boys. I always have and I know I always will. My first kiss was when I was three years old underneath a table at my preschool. For as long as I can remember, I have had an uncontrollable romantic side. Watching Disney movies where the princess gets saved by the prince were my favorite. My parents' relationship also influences the way I view love because my mom and dad seemed to be the perfect couple. I am the oldest of three girls, so I'm no stranger to getting spoiled. I have always expected my future boyfriend to treat me the same or even better because my dad always treated me like the most beautiful girl in the world. Ideas of a perfect relationship all started when I dreamed of my fifth grade crush coming to my dance recital and kissing me behind the stage. That romantic side of me controlled a large portion of my imagination and I looked forward to meeting a boy that would be fully committed to me as my parents are to each other. Once I hit middle school, I continued to indulge in these unrealistic romantic notions once liking a boy transformed into a different feeling. Unfortunately, I was a homily looking person during these years so these feelings were never reciprocated. Attending a small private school with thirty other people in my grade did not help much either. Well, less of a rumor more of an "oh I don't want anyone to know" type of thing. I don't want to say it because of reasons. Anyway in 8th grade I was very, how do I put this, naïve. I thought everyone was my friend. I thought everyone was going to nice. I thought that if I was nice to others they would be nice. But I was wrong. So wrong. It started when someone was whispering about me in class. My friend since she was in 6th grade, Austin, who is a year under me, pointed them out to me. "what do you think they are talking about?" She whispered. "Judging by the pointing and laughing, I'd say they were talking about me," I replied. Austin being the friend she is decided to see what they were saying. Now I just shrugged it off. At the time I didn't really care what anyone had to say about me. So, I wasn't worried per say. That was until Austin walked back over to me with a scared look on her face. Then in the mist of the mini freak out, I heard, " how could you do something like that?" the disgust in their voice was enough to make me run into the dressing room. the tears started falling down my face like a waterfall. Many immigrants have positively influenced the industrys of science, entertainment and entrepreneurship. As one may know Einstein is one of the greatest scientists of all time, and He positively changed the science industry. However he was an immigrant from Germany. Einstein did so much for science. He made the most famous equation ever, E=MC>2(Albert Einstein Facts). This means energy equals mass multiplied by the speed of light squared(Albert Einstein Facts). One of Einstein's most famous theories is the theory of the singularity. This is still a theory because it has not been proven. The reason why this theory has not been proven yet is because to find out if the singularity is real you would have to go to the center of a black hole. People always say I'm funny because I'm full of jokes. But I still run out of material pretty fast. So one November, when I had used my last joke on a kid across the street, I went to the search engine on my Gran's old box computer and typed: 'the best joke.' How a male and female allow others to talk to them is a mutual agreement between dominance and control. According to Deborah Tannen, in But What Do You Mean, "Unfortunately, women and men often have different ideas about what is appropriate, different ways of speaking." Meaning, when women and men allow another to talk to them about topics that are not usually taken lightly there is a thin line between being truthful and telling a joke. • 77. 21 Jump Street Film Techniques Comedy is all about timing and many of cinema's funniest jokes would not have landed if it weren't for the perfectly timed cut to a reaction shot or a smart change in perspective. Although editors are the ones usually controlling the comedy, they don't always get the credit they deserve and remain the unsung heroes of the genre. In the 2012 comedy "21 Jump Street", editor Joel Negron deserves a lot of credit for the film being as funny and unexpected as it is. His timing feels appropriate, as he knows just how long to pause on Hill's expressionless face before cutting to the more energetic Tatum. With the use of montages, he introduces the two characters performing something absurd as he smoothly time cuts to a new bit before the previous one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An easy way to take that scene would've been to go down the action route, packing it with explosions, while Tatum and Hill throw cheap dialogue jokes back and forth. Instead, the film wisely prefers to play with the framework and uses various techniques to make this sequence be as funny and unexpected as it is. Trying to escape from a motocycle gang, Schmidt and Jenko end up in a freeway chase. For the two, who expect their careers to be similar with what they've experienced on TV, things don't quite go as planned. Joel Negron makes the sequence a showcase for comic timing and stylizes the editing of the scene with something that approaches a cartoonish sensibility when two trucks (including a huge stenciled "Oil & Fuel") come in path of bullets and crashing motorcycles but...nothing happens. The same set up repeats itself as the expected explosion is now expected to be even larger. The editor goes into a close up of the flammable liquids pouring in the bridge, reinforcing the idea of an explosion into the audience's mind, then goes wider and wider on his shots, showing the bridge in an establishing shot in order to create space for a spectacle of an explosion that again... never happens. Jenko and Schmidt can't believe nothing happens again when one of the motorcyclists falls into an innocent chicken truck that is never likely to cause an explosion, but unexpectedly does! A method that suggests that sometimes the buildup, can be more effective than the punch line. To live up the comedy and suspense in this scene the filmmakers are using the following ... In the popular press article the authors, Peter McGraw and Joel Warner, show evidence to explain why people may think men are funnier than women. The authors first talk about how comedians are usually guys all over the world from Manhattan to Tokyo, men are more likely to create funnier cartoons, stand–up comedy is traditionally a male–dominated field, and men's online dating profiles are comedic. The article then rebuttals that argument by explaining in McGraw's class his students had a joke writing competition and based on a survey the men won, but only to a small degree. The authors explain men's jokes are offensive and distasteful and the highest rated joke was written by a woman, thus woman are funnier according the authors (McGraw). In the academic article, a group of researchers implemented two experiments to test the theory that men are funnier than women. The first experiment was to get 32 participants to create captions for 20 cartoons and the participants were half women and half men. Joe and Jerry are struggling musicians who accidentally witness a mob hit and become targets. To hide from the mob, they flee the state as members of a traveling women's band, where further complications set in. They quickly become besotted with the lead singer, Sugar, who in unable to recognize that her band mates are really men masquerading as women. Like most popular gender–bending films, Some Like It Hot calls us to critique constructions of sexuality and gender both within the context of historicized moment of the films production and from the perspective of later ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The prohibition setting allows transgression to be seen as accepted and normal for ordinary people. The criminalization of alcohols serves to demonstrate how personal choice can be incorporated under institutionalized morality. Furthermore, the setting creates a distance between reality and the subject of the film for the more conservative viewer, which is one of the justifications as to why the film was done in black and white. The film is a crafty combination of many components including a spoof of period gangster films, romance in screwball comedies, and gender reversal and cross–dressing. Evidently, one of the major themes in the film is disguise and masquerade. In its time, Some Like It Hot was the highest– grossing comedy, one of the most successful films in 1959, and undoubtedly Wilder's funniest comedy. The film was based on a German movie, Fanfares of Love, directed by Kurt Hoffmann with similar plot elements borrowed by Wilder. The events in the movie were inspired by the infamous St. Valentine's Day Massacre in Chicago. At the time of its release, the United States was at the end of the repressive 1950's and the studio system was weakened as a result of censorship restrictions. The film received much criticism for its risqué subjects of double–entendre dialogue and gender bending theme. Wilder purposely challenged the system with Some Like It Hot, filling it with sexual innuendos and stereotypes and a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 121. Why Does Shakespeare Use Comic Relief In Hamlet Hamlet Shakespeare uses humor in Hamlet to distract from the tragedies and dark plot turns throughout the play. Shakespeare puts these comedy scenes either directly before or directly after a scene of great intensity. He used these comic reliefs as a break for the audience; Shakespeare knew that this was almost overwhelmingly emotion to the audience. There's only so much intensity that his audiences could take, after every death or emotional tragedy there has to be some sort of humor to allow the audience to relax for a little bit. Normally in a tragedy there's a minimum of five people who die. In hamlet there's many more that, this is a major reason of why Shakespeare uses comic relief in this story. This was put in place to help lighten the mood after one of the biggest tragedies in the play which was Ophelia's death. Shakespeare however didn't give all of his characters a sense of humor, there were a few smaller characters he put in there with a sense of humor, but Hamlet was the one character that had that sense of humor. Hamlet likes to play games with language, he likes to parody other characters verbal style, and he has a predilection for puns and bawdy double entendres. Shakespeare did have many different reasons for putting comedy in Hamlet. There's the purpose of entertainment where you can see his comedy be anywhere from dirty jokes to very sophisticated humor. The main reason of the comedy in Hamlet was for the purpose of comic relief. These comedic scenes always take place before or after a tragic scene. We already talked about the fact that these scenes also helped out the audience because if the play was just straight tragedies the emotional toll that the audience would have to go through would just be too much. We can even compare how he used this to movies and tv shows today, in action movies and dramas there were always those comedic scenes to relieve the tension. • 129. Is Pop Culture Really Making Us Dumb? Is Pop Culture Really Making Us Dumb? Everyone has been told at least once in his or her lives watching too much TV is bad for you. Some will argue it makes you dumb or don't believe everything you see on TV and even "TV kills brain cells". This goes for all types of media not only TV. Others would argue that television and social media actually educate us, and even say things that should be said, but never do. With the rise of all these new types of media in the 21st century like Hollywood films, new TV shows, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc. the question is, Is Pop culture actually good for you? Since the start of the 21st century new TV shows and social media have been on the rise. For example Steven Johnson brings up the hit drama 24 that used to come on Fox, the show focused on terrorism and it also was known for its violent torture scenes to extract information from the terrorists. Some articles are saying that those torture scenes in the hit series 24 influenced the abuse of prisoners by American military in Iraq and Guantanamo. I think that is totally wrong to say that a TV show influenced that violence its common sense that if you're trying to get information out of someone you hate and on top of that they're a prisoner/ linked to terrorism, and they wont give it to you, of course your next resort will be to use violence. Also hasn't TV shows and movies especially military's ones been based off real life situations not the other way around. Another reason why ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Unfortunately, her name was misspelled and had to be replaced–it read Luis instead of Louis! Julia just laughed it off: "The misspelling was so perfectly apt, a great metaphor for show business. Right when you think you've made it, you get knocked down." Number Three: She Wasn't Meant to Be on 'Seinfeld' Julia's appearance on the show that launched her into stardom was completely fortuity. Seinfeld was all planned out without her, but NBC executives thought the pilot episode was too male–centric, and picket it up under the condition that a woman was added to the cast. From watching TV, to reading magazines, being on social media, and just browsing the internet. Popular culture is the entirety of ideas, perspectives, attitudes, images, and other phenomena that are within the mainstream of a given culture. The question is popular culture good or bad? Pop Culture has a great impact on our society of today. The main problem with pop culture is that some people think that it can dumb us down, and also that it promotes violence in today's youth. It could actually do the exact opposite. Pop Culture is just another thing to learn about in life. It could actually help us think more complex to figure out what is going to happen in the next episode in your favorite TV show. It could even have the youth reading at an early age just to figure out what is happening in the magazines, and to be able to text their friends. Also it could help us learn more about the issues in today's world through the use of browsing the internet. The main issues that will be covered through this paper are: how modern TV can enlighten the audience, the use of social media in political movements, and the effects on how pop culture can educate the youth of today. To begin with we will look at the issue of how modern TV can enlighten the audience. Every year, 65% of Americans decorate their homes and offices for Halloween. Being such a unique holiday, many will make Halloween into a month long celebration by doing fall themed activities. This includes carving pumpkins, going to haunted houses, eating lots of candy, and bonfires. Halloween is one of the oldest, most celebrated holidays on Earth, and it brings out the inner child in all of us. First, we must look back to the birthplace of Halloween, Ireland. Halloween is believed to have originated from the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to scare off spirits. This is why to this day, children and even adults wear costumes on Halloween. Whether its DIY or store bought, costumes are one of the main elements of Halloween. However, in the eighth century, Pope Gregory III designated November 1 as "All Saints' Day", a day to honor all of the celebrated saints and martyrs. Gregory kept some of the traditions of Samhain, and made the night before All Saint's day "All Hallows' Eve", which later became known as Halloween. Perotta 2 Over time, Halloween evolved into a grand, community– based event centered around child–friendly activities, such as trick–or–treating. However, they made headlines not for a ground–breaking study as they often have, but rather for kicking ten incoming students out. These ten students were kicked out for posting inappropriate memes in a Facebook group chat. For the uninitiated, a meme is a funny picture posted online. Memes have various formats, and there were several different "types" of memes shared through this group chat. These memes contained various tasteless themes such as anti–Semitism, pedophilia, and racism, among others. These memes were offensive enough to result in the university revoking the students' offers of admission. While these students are likely bright enough to attend another ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One example of this is the meme posted in the group chat that says, "when the mexican [sic] kid hangs himself in the school bathroom" and has a picture of the words "piñata time." This is very clearly inappropriate and offensive on a few different levels, relying on the shock value of the suicide joke and the national stereotype of Mexicans using piñatas. But the fatal flaw of this meme is the lack of any attempt at humor besides shock humor, which is extremely difficult to pull off and usually only works if it's used in conjunction with another more standard joke. I believe that offensive humor isn't inherently wrong or inappropriate, as long as it's actually humorous. To provide an example of offensive humor that still manages to be funny, I point to the movie Blazing Saddles, which is widely regarded as one of the funniest comedies ever, despite numerous racial jokes. It manages to pull this off successfully by making sure that in addition to the shock humor, there's more traditional jokes. The lack of this in the memes in the group chat is their fatal flaw. Many people feel that controversial topics, such as racism or anti–Semitism, should be regarded as off–limits when it comes to humor. These people argue that any joke about these topics is inappropriate and always should be punished, or, at the very least, condemned, and to a certain extent, I agree with ...
