Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity Community Service
While attending Sacred Heart University I was involved in many different activities. One that I
cared most about was community service. Pi Kappa Phi fraternity is one of the few social
organizations that owns and operates their own philanthropy. As a member of the fraternity, it was
my duty to come up with new ideas on fundraising. One of the national organizations main
fundraising events is called "Gear Up Florida" where members ride their bikes across certain parts
of Florida. Using this information we decided to ride on a stationary bike for 24 hours straight in the
main academic building. We implemented this fundraiser my sophomore year and because of its
huge success it is still being used today by the younger members. We also participate

Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity Case Study
I am incredibly excited to apply for a Educational or Strategic Growth consultant position with Phi
Kappa Psi Fraternity. I am currently a Masters of Public Administration candidate at Southern
Illinois University – Edwardsville. I am working towards beginning a career in student affairs,
specifically in Fraternity and Sorority life. I believe that my leadership positions within the Illinois
Eta chapter, volunteer experience, and para – professional experience in a university setting make
me a viable candidate for either of these roles.
I have an abundance of experience within the my chapter. From 2010–2012 I held the positions of
New Member Educator, Vice President, and President. In the roles I was able to have first–hand

Statement Of Purpose: The Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society
Our family has been blessing people by providing a food pantry out of our home for the community
for the past two years; before that we did a food ministry out of our church for six years, blessing
thousands of family a month. I am very active in our current church, i run the soundboard and the
computer/projector during Sunday service. I'm always willing to help others, I have 1700+ volunteer
hours over the past seven years. Currently i am holding a 4.00 gpa in my college classes and I'm on
the schools president's list. I've recently applied and have been accepted in the Phi Theta kappa
honors society. Currently my main goal is to retain my 4.00 gpa while going back into the work
force. I will be completing my certificate program

Application Essay To Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society
The moment I changed the background color on my Commodore 64 I knew I wanted to do
something with computers when I grew up. Of course, as a young child, I really had no idea what
computers were capable of, but the connection was clear. The next few years were spent learning
about computers and electronics. I was so curious that every single phone, alarm clock, and remote
were disassembled and reassembled multiple times. Most of the time it was put back together and
nobody ever knew, but occasionally that screw I could not find a hole for would betray me. This
curiosity continued with lawnmower engines, trimmers, and anything new that came into the house.
My behavior became more than just a curiosity when I started disassembling the family car. Front
Range Community College has provided a wonderful framework to guide me and provided
opportunities to work on my academics, volunteer, and grow. I am on track to finish my Associates
Degree in Communication this year. I have maintained a 3.92 GPA as a board member of Phi Theta

It is time to continue my growth in a school where I can focus my academics in information
technology while learning how to transform the world around me. Regis and Jesuit academics are
known for more than just teaching an academic subject, they are known for teaching the whole
person with an emphasis on service to others. It is critical that I am able to show the important
connection between school and community to my daughter. As she decides what values are most
important to her and which college to attend, I will not only teach her, I will live what it means to
develop the whole person. Integrating public service into academics, ABET certification, NSA
designation and a generous transfer agreement make Regis University the top choice to continue my
education and build character worthy of the Jesuit

Burton Nathan Raffel was born on April 27, 1928. Raffel loved education, and obtained many
degrees which included his bachelor's, master's, and J.D. These degrees were obtained from very
prestigious colleges and universities such as Brooklyn College, Ohio State University, and Yale
University. In 1964 Raffel recorded an album in conjunction with Robert P. Creed and Folkway
Records. The album they recorded was entitled "Lyrics from the Old English"; Raffel got his
translation of "Nibelungenlied" published through Yale University Press. Raffel not only translated
other artist work but, he was an artist himself. Mr. Raffel wrote poems and scripted a film called
"The Legend of Alfred Packer". Raffel also had his translation of "The Canterbury tales" ... Show

Burton Raffel had to really understand these stories and their meanings behind them to translate
them into what the authors had originally wrote and intended the story to be. The original writings
are not written in Morse code they are just written from a different time period and in a different
language that we in modern society are not accustomed to. Raffel was extremely intelligent and had
the skills and capabilities that not everyone has, he had background knowledge of those periods and
can interpret many languages. Those traits and skills are what have given us an accurate translation
of the story without completely butchering the author's art and intentions. He has this thirst for
education that has driven him to learn the details and basically show us points of views that we
would not have originally see. I am a fan of his work because during my research I found many
critics who had agreed that Raffel did not destroy or change the work of the author which is hard to
do especially because he could not use his personal feelings while attempting to understand it. He
had to step in their shoes and write what he best thought they would have written in our

Black Colleges Research Paper
Historically Black Colleges and Universities, established in the south by black ministers for African
Americans who were freed from slavery. The first known HBCU was a school in Philadelphia called
Cheyney University of Pennsylvania. Today there are 100 private and public institutions. Some of
the top colleges are Spelman College, Morehouse College, Morgan state university, Virginia State
University, Virginia Commonwealth University, and Virginia Union University. On the other hand, A
PWI, predominantly white institution, was established prior to 1964. These schools were mostly for
whites but of course some of these labeled PWI's were slightly integrated. Some PWI's are Virginia
Commonwealth University, Clarke University, Huntington University. There are many reasons
anyone would want to go to a HBCU or a PWI, and it is not race thing anymore. Most people follow
after their family. Most African American students who attend a HBCU because of family
background. Often times students do not think about the schools as PWI's or HBCU's because for
example, Virginia Union University and Virginia Commonwealth University are so close to one
another, you may remember that VUU is a HBCU, and forget VCU is a PWI. Some people might

My First Reading Reflection By Carson F. Dye
Our first reading reflection was based on books that have put leadership into practice. In other words
we read how the protagonist in the story has applied leaderships skills into their own career path.
"Checklist Manifest: How To Get Things Right" and "Mountains Beyond Mountains" were both
great read for me. Now we have switched gears to the book called "Leadership in Healthcare:
Essential Values and Skills" this has focused on describing various additives that make up a great
leader. We will discuss and explore some of the terms and suggestions written here by Carson F.
Dye on makes a great leader.
To me leader is someone who shows passion for the work he does and is eager to share it with the
team, so as a whole the company or institution can move to a more efficient and productive
environment. Essentially, every leader should have one thing in which is to enhance the current
situation in the workplace whatever it may be, and by no means to be selfish. It all comes down to
being transparent in your organization and gaining loyalty from the colleagues. "A leader is only as
effective as the support that his followers grant him. Gaining that support is not possible if the leader
does not earn others' trust and loyalty" (Dye, C., 2010, p.56). Carson F. Dye could have not written
better regarding how team dynamics work at the workplace. Not having trust in you leader leads to
suspicion, and even worse, a control freak of the duties that are delegated because if you cannot

Desire To Be An Alpha Man Essay
Tarvaris Shegog Why I Desire To Be an Alpha man Growing up in an one bedroom single parent

that I have seen and the situations I have been in through growing up I know that I shouldn't be here

overcoming these things it has molded me into the young man I am today; a person who is
determined to be great and determined to leave an impact on people's lives in everything that I do.

I've taken the lessons I've learned whether they were explicitly from Xavier and Delvin or from
simply observing an Alpha Man with me when I joined my first organization Generation of
Educated Men (GEM) a community service based organization where I currently serve as Mr. GEM.
No matter how long ago I learned those lessons they still resonate with me just as strong if not
stronger, this is shown through my most recent accomplishment of becoming a member of Alpha

the Men of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated both intentional and unintentional, and if I am
perchance selected to start the process of becoming a Man of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity,

The Incident Of Troy University 's Homecoming
"Something bad is about to happen," I stated as I looked over to my cousin's best friend. Apparently,
I had spoken too soon. Pow! Pow! Shots were fired. Crowds of people were frantically running in
every direction. What had just happened was not expected and had definitely never taken place
before. Troy University's Homecoming Weekend in the past years had never encountered violence
on this level. There was maybe a fight here and there, but never gunshots. I had never been so scared
in my life. Troy University Homecoming 2016 had officially been ruined after this night. That
weekend began like any other homecoming weekend. It was filled with fraternity parties, tailgating,
and much more. The previous night, me, my cousin, and her friends ... Show more content on

We all followed. While waiting at the front door, I constantly observed my surroundings. A sense of
nervousness came over my body as I began to look at the capacity of people standing outside
waiting. That's when I noticed two groups of people having a confrontation right behind my group
of friends. The conversation quickly escalated as one of the members of the group swings a punch at
another member of the other group. The brawl was on; in a blink of an eye, both groups were on the
ground tumbling and throwing punches. People were running towards the fight for some odd reason;
instead, me and the girls ran towards the door of the building. "Something bad is about to happen," I
stated as I looked over to my cousin's best friend. Apparently I had spoken too soon. As I watched
one of the members of the fight get up from the ground and reach into his pocket, I knew what was
coming next. Fear immediately took over my body. Pow! Pow! Shots were fired. Crowds of people
were frantically running in every direction. I began to bang on the door of the building in terror.
Thankfully, someone inside the party heard the gunshots, and ran to open the door for us. Everyone
stampeded into the lobby of Sartain Hall like a herd of animals. I looked over to my right, in hopes
that at least my cousin had made it inside the building. She was nowhere to be found. I desperately
began to search for my cousin amongst the crowd of flustered people. "Tia! I'm right here!"

My Life, Basketball, And My Philosophy Of Basketball
My adult life, and my philosophy on life was shaped on a basketball court, and by my father. He was
the coach of my AAU girl's basketball team, and he instilled in us a philosophy of hard work. We
were no normal girl's basketball team, and My father's coaching philosophy rein on a team of twelve
as we waited our turn to take the court. Anticipation greeted determination in rhythmic thuds in the
background. The pace of the rhythm ever so often broken by a screech of rubber to maple. Hard
work brought us to this last scrimmage against the opposing team. As an AAU team, our practices in
Pennsylvania were purposely constructed against stronger and more developed players. As women,
we trained against male players with a men's ball. We brought agility whereas they brought strength.
My father, "coach Ed", designated weekend scrimmages against the best AAU teams in our county.
The practices resulted in gaining stride as we vectored against a multitude of opponents. It was these
practices that brought us to that courtside moment, seven hundred and ninety–three miles from
Pennsylvania, where we were anticipated medaling in the State Games of America. Two hours and
twenty minutes later, each of us twelve doe– eyed girls announced victory with a freshly polished tin
and copper medal fitted into the palm of our hands. My father's philosophy was simple, "In order to
become successful, we must align ourselves with success". His philosophy and this experience
coached me through various

"When you get into HCC, you're going to think, 'Hey, it's just a community college'. You just go to
your class – that's all – and then get out. No! It's not. You have got to participate. You got to go to
organizations, you go to clubs. There are so many opportunities," said Nga Phan about HCC's

The For Black Greek Organizations
Trailblazers for Black Greek Organizations in Higher Education:
The Journey of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc.,
African American education systems and colleges faced many issues systematically and socially.
The process of integrating colleges was a process faced with opposition because the idea that higher
education was made for strictly for white upper–class men was still the underlying ideal. While
equal opportunity was promoted in the light, behind the scenes, systematically money, policy,
procedure hindered black education and equal opportunity. Realizing this injustice, black students
sought to find their own solutions to social justice issues happening not only within higher education
but their communities while leading by example.
On December 5, 1776 the first collegiate fraternal greek letter organization in the United States, Phi
Beta Kappa was founded at Yale, the College of William and Mary.Building from the example of
literary organizations, which were based on literary debates, and election, Phi Beta Kappa set many
standards for collegiate greek letter organizations in the realm of rituals/traditions, selective
admittance, faculty and community support. It was not until one hundred and thirty years that the
first black greek letter organization, Alpha Phi Alpha was founded. The need of this organization
emerged from a lack of admittance and representation in social clubs and greek organizations
established on college

Pitkin Views Representation Of A Sorority Executive...
Professor Uhlaner Political Science 137BW November 17, 2016 Paper 4 In her book, Pitkin views
representation in four partial views in order to get a better understanding of the overall term. "Acting
for" differs from the other views in that it is focused on the substance of representing. Pitkin also
brings up the "Mandate–Independence Controversy" which describes the conflict of how
representatives should act. The mandate view of representation is where the representative's choices
reflect the views of the represented; he is bound by the instructions from them. Independence view
gives the representative more freedom as long as it's still what is best for the constituents. Both these
views offer ways of viewing how a representative should behave. This principle is demonstrated in a
sorority executive council. There are different council positions that demonstrate different strategies
used to represent the sorority. There is no clear answer to how much freedom a representative should
have when acting for the represented. However, the mandate–independence view and Pitkin's
analogies offers a way of viewing this question. Pitkin's five analogies for explaining substantive
representation will be discussed to further explain this concept: actor, trustee, substitute,
ambassador, and specialist. Each analogy has its strengths in defining representation and its
shortcomings. The first analogy is an actor which acts on the behalf of someone else and is
"someone who does the actual

In 1921, Mr. J.C Harmon became the President of Cottey College. Virginia Alice Cottey Stockard,
the founder and previous president of the college, was thrilled and believed she and the Board of

Unfortunately, at the beginning of the new school year in 1922, Harmon resigned from his position

Analysis Of Ethos And Pathos In Aria By Richard Rodriguez

Ethos and Pathos in "Aria"
Bilingualism is the ability to communicate in two different languages. Bilingual education is the use
of two different languages in classroom instruction. According to the Encyclopedia of Children's
Health, and many other researchers, "languages are learned the easiest during a child's youngest
years. Therefore, when a child is growing up in a bilingual home or is receiving bilingual education,
can easily speak both languages. Children who grow up in a household where two languages are

Having to live a life of two languages leads to an insecure identity. Rodriguez argues that learning
both languages and using them rather than avoiding one, leads to a better sense of identity and
freedom. Thus, his intended audience are people who are of higher education, scholars, and
educators. Both himself, and the audience have shared values which entail: "independent thinking,
self–knowledge", education, "commitment to the affairs of the world", and scholarship and intellect.
Rodriguez convinces the audience to seriously consider his claim through effective appeals to ethos
and pathos. Ethos is developed in the area of authority by personal anecdotes and in the area of
credibility by shared values. Pathos is effectively evoked via experiences he had that make the
audience more likely to pause and consider his claim.
First, Rodriguez develops ethos in the area of authority, which is the author's ability to demonstrate a
command over a subject matter and to offer an informed persona. Although Rodriguez initially
struggled with his adjustment into the American society and speaking English, he did not let that
limit his capabilities of being a successful in the classroom. "Rodriguez's article appeared in The
American Scholar magazine at a critical time in the debate over bilingual education models"
(Robinson 236). The American Scholar magazine

Why We Are Better Than Colleges
Senior year is the time for making choices. Some of these choices are going to be small and others
affect the rest of our lives. The biggest and most important choice is which college to attend. Do you
want to stay close to home or go far away? The biggest question is what size of college is right for
you. My two top choices are University of Bluffton and University of Findlay. I think they are both
great colleges but one is definitely a better fit for me. The University of Findlay is a better fit for me
over University of Bluffton because it is close to home, but is still large enough to give me the large
campus feel I am looking for in a college. The hardest part of going to college is the expenses today.
Most students have to take out loans which leaves them in debt all of their lives. University of
Bluffton's tuition is $44,008 ("CollegeSimply." ) which is slightly more than University of Findlay
which costs $42,335 ("Cost of Attending the University of Findlay ." ). The difference is $1,673,

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Analysis
I am interested in the Delta Iota Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. at Cheyney University.
Being a lifetime member of the first sorority for African–American women has sparked my interest
since childhood. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority means to me services provided by now all ethnicities
for women to impact the community in a positive manner. The services since the beginning in 1908
have been immaculate. Many AKA's were helping during the Great Depression, Civil Rights
Movement, and today are helping with Black Lives Matter. Being a potential member of this
prestigious organization for a lifetime I believe will be able to make a difference on Cheyney
University campus and surrounding areas.
At Cheyney University I am a member of Iconic Modeling and Dance group. With the modeling
group, we perform around Pennsylvania at other colleges, and on Cheyney University's campus
several times a year. This is the first group I joined my freshman year. Being from Upper Marlboro,
Maryland and going to a college out of state was difficult for me to fit in. I began to see flyers for a
modeling group and I immediately tried out. I made the team and have been on the team for 4
semesters now beginning Fall 2015. Iconic has taught me to build confidence while performing on

Pi Kappa Phi: An Artifact Analysis
This paper explores the history of the Alpha Iota chapter of Pi Kappa Phi at Auburn University. The
paper will also give insight into the negative perceptions of modern day fraternity men and why
statistics and the writer's personal experiences prove that they are inaccurate. The writer utilizes
artifact analysis, expert interviews and oral history, and personal knowledge and experience. The
writer is a member of the fraternity being researched and a fraternity man, this gives him first hand
insight and experience into the subjects at hand. Although social media has given the public a
warped view of what the modern–day fraternity man, the goal of this project is to provide the
audience with a more accurate portrayal of what the ideal fraternity ... Show more content on

I began the rush process near the tail end of my senior year and continued through the summer. I
went to many different fraternities and had a phenomenal time meeting lots of cool people, but I
noticed a consistent theme that troubled me. Almost everywhere I went, it seemed like a lot of the
guys were very similar to one another. Whether it be personality, geographical background, or even
trivial qualities such as the kind of cars they drove or how much money their parents made, a
majority of the members of these fraternities seemed to fit a certain mold unique to their chapter.
Growing up in a community that one could describe as a social Hunger Games, I had to shape and
mold myself into a person that I wasn't just to survive junior high and high school. After many years
of acting like someone I wasn't, I did not want to spend the most important four years of my life at a
place where I wouldn't be able to be the person I truly am. I began to think that fraternity life might
not be for me, but that changed when I met the brothers at Pi Kappa Phi. When I visited Pi Kapp for
the first time, I didn't know anyone in the chapter or anything about the fraternity. While this did
initially make me nervous, I soon noticed something that would calm my nerves. Unlike the other
places I visited, the men represented all sorts of different personalities, geographical backgrounds,
and ethnicities. But despite all their differences, I've never seen a closer group of people. I met guys
from eight different states in one weekend, which is more states than most fraternities can say their
brothers represent. But the thing that I appreciated the most about the brothers is that for the first
time all summer, I felt truly and genuinely accepted. Not because of where I grew up or other things
I can't control, but because of who I truly am. I knew I had found the place I was meant to be. That

Personal Lessons Learned
From an early age I was taught the importance of personal integrity and the importance of being
adaptable and prepared for any stressful situation that life may throw at you. During my time as a
boy scout I was constantly taught to be prepared and to also to always be at the service of others. At
the end of our camping trips we would be told repeatedly to "leave this place, better than when you
found it" and this lesson has translated into my own life. I want to make the world a better (safer)
place than when I found it. As I grew up, these lessons continued to play a key role in the decisions I
made and have made me into the man that I've become today.
While in middle school and into high school I had the opportunity to be exposed to many cultures
that were different than my own. I volunteered weekly through my church in a predominately
Hispanic community that was located in the Port of Houston. The neighborhood was extremely
impoverished and many of the students were involved in gangs, or had one or more parents that
were incarcerated. The more I worked with these young men and women, the more I learned about
myself and that the lesson I learned years prior of making the world better than when you found it
rang true. This community was not like the neighborhood that I lived in, and I was definitely ...

this I began to study the methods needed to film, edit, and record my own videos in the hopes of

When I was attending elementary school, my third grade teacher, Mrs. Leak, assigned the class a

my dad. Everything about my father make him the best hero including; his advice, personality,
appearance, his wardrobe and his aggressive voice. My father may radiate as a normal individual
when approaching him. However; There are an abundance of special characteristics that make him
my favorite hero. He is an average height male, 5"10'. He has a 350 lbs. stocky, muscular frame
which comes from being an athlete throughout his younger years. His hazel brown eyes share the
stories he has been through, which causes him not to display his straight, white teeth. His
complexion is similar to a dark chocolate dove with not a hint of error. His hair is curly, thick, and
dark brown , which corresponds great with the beard covering his face like Jolly Old St. Nicholas.
The clothing he wears such as suits, ties, and slacks or T–shirts', jeans, and Jordan's symbolize how

There are many different kinds of groups that exist between college students that deal with
communication they range from sports teams to many community or social groups. The type of
organizations that are mostly found in many colleges today are Greek letter organizations. In this

the history of Sororities, then I am going to write about how important it communication is during
what sororities call the pledge process. Furthermore I am going to tell about the different things that
sororities have, such as the symbols, colors and different things that may deal with communication.

There are different types of sororities. There are four basic types of Greek letter organizations:
social, professional, academic or honorary, and service. Of these, social Greek–letter organizations
are most popular (Encarta). The first social sorority started in 1851 by women at Wesleyan College
in Macon, Georgia. The women founded the Adelphean Society, which later became a Greek–letter
sorority, Alpha Delta Pi. Other early Greek–letter sororities for women included Pi Beta Phi,
established in 1867 at Monmouth College, in Monmouth, Illinois, and Kappa Alpha Theta,
established in 1870 at DePauw University (formally Indiana Asbury College) in Greencastle,
Indiana (Encarta).
Social sororities contribute to the social development of members through organized social events
and service projects. Many chapters maintain houses on or near the campus where members can
meet and hold social functions. Social sororities are known for their parties, dances, and other social
activities (Encarta) . Many sororities encourage those interested ladies to go out and get to know
people , and members of the sorority itself. " Given the minimum requirement that pledges be
academically capable of maintaining membership, the organizations that selected them are likely to

Comparison Of Frederick Douglass And Martin Luther King Jr
Out of oppression rises resilient individuals whose voices cannot be silenced. Though the exact
circumstances may vary, both Frederick Douglass and Martin Luther King Jr. were empowered in
the face of persecution. Both came from a place of suffering and restriction, were inspired by the
brutality the observed, and attacks institutions which allowed these atrocities and others to continue.
Their words, powerful and thought–provoking, will serve as pieces that will not soon be forgotten.
Frederick Douglass and Martin Luther King Jr. both utilized certain writing techniques to emphasize
their story and increase the degree of impact to the reader. In both pieces, Narrative of the Life of
Frederick Douglass and Letter from Birmingham Jail, emotionally charged elements are included to
create a response from the reader. Douglass ultilizes a deeply personal and graphic style.
Remembering the horrific story of his Aunt Hester, Douglass recounts, "and after rolling up his
sleeves, he (slave master) commenced to lay on the heavy cow skin, and soon the warm, red blood
(amid heartrending shrieks from her, and horrid oaths from him) came dripping to the floor." In
contrast, King calls upon the emotion of the recipients through his reference to the greater evil
committed against society. Relating what he has seen to the larger picture, King describes, "But
when you have seen vicious mobs lynch your mothers and fathers at will and drown your sisters and
brothers at whim; when you have seen

Designing The Cd Package Design
CD Package Design
I was inspired by watercolor portraits and CD packaging designs from other students. I decided to
incorporate this idea into the CD package design. Throughout the CD Package, I added a faded
textured in the background of the design. Within the background on the back panel, I added a
transparent photograph of a cricket to keep consistent with the title of the album name. Then, added
paint splatters and rendered them to make the model as a recognizable subject for the cover. In
addition, I added the song titles and an excerpt inside the front sleeve of the cover. Furthermore, I
used three colors: cerulean blue, chartreuse green, and indigo purple throughout the project. Lastly, I
added a barcode, a record label logo, and fictitious information to make the entire CD package look
realistic.
Typography Calendars
For the month of May, I created a calendar page using Franklin Gothic typeface and added different
shades of green and a beige color for the background in the calendar. I expanded the word "May"
and composed the days of the month and weeks into the word itself. I also included the history of
Franklin Gothic and added "Franklin Gothic" at the bottom of the composition. Lastly, I added
"2015" on top of the bottom base to complete the calendar.
For the month of October, I used the font Times New Roman and used different shades of the color
red throughout the whole calendar. Instead of using a standard calendar outline, I decided to add the
days,

Golden Ratios In The Great Pyramids
Introduction:
Background:
The Golden Ratio, also known as phi, is an extraordinary number that is similar to the figure pi as
it's digits are infinite however the digits do not repeat themselves. The Greek philosopher
Pythagoras discovered the Golden Ratio. (1) He discovered it while studying patterns and recurring
numbers. The golden ratio can be applied in many different areas of our world from space to the
shells of snails. It can be found in the architecture of the Greek and Roman structures and
monuments and also in the modern buildings and structures around the world.
Ancient Egyptians and Greeks used the golden ratio for art, architecture and sculptures. The ancient

Hurricanes and the milk way:
According to research, the patterns and shapes that hurricanes form are very much alike to the
patterns and shape that the Milky Way forms. We will explore an example now:
Here is the Milky Way where we can notice there are many spiral shapes; these are very much
present in the shapes, which possess qualities of the golden ratio:
Here is the Milky Way with the golden ratio proportions, we can see that these proportions fit
perfectly with the shape of the Milky Way and this shows us that there is a mathematical
phenomenon present as the golden ratio is a perfect number: The measurements are: (in cm) a = 2.5

(a+b)/a=( a)/b=1.618

Persuasive Essay On Racism
For years, students complained, saying University of Maryland officials needed to do more to
prevent or respond to racist incidents on campus.
Then Richard Collins III was stabbed to death at a campus bus stop. The death of the young black
Army lieutenant –– just three days before his graduation –– spurred renewed tensions at UMD and
prompted officials to roll out a series of new anti–hate initiatives.
"As we grieve the loss of Lt. Richard Collins III of Bowie State University, we must also act to
combat hate and create a safer campus," UMD President Wallace D. Loh said in a statement
Wednesday.
But even before Collins' death, the university has been grappling with a series of racially charged
incidents.
Racist flyers, slurs and a noose
Tamara Adams vividly remembers the day she saw the white nationalist flyers posted on campus:
"America is a white nation," it read.
"I questioned whether or not I (as an African–American) was welcome on the University of
Maryland campus," the senior said.
Those posters went up in March. The next month, someone left a noose in the kitchen of UMD's Phi
Kappa Tau fraternity house.
UMD police called the incident a "hateful act" and launched a "hate/bias investigation."
Student Alexis Ojeda–Brown refused to stay silent. Earlier this month, she used a bullhorn to
denounce the noose incident on an open area of campus –– only to have students respond by saying,
"Who cares?"
Many students recalled a fraternity member's racist email that was eventually

Analysis Of Didion 's ' On Self Respect
In Didion's emotional yet dominant essay, "On Self– Respect," found in Slouching Towards
Bethlehem, she defines the true meaning of value to oneself, while indicating that reactions of
weakness and humiliation, based on the approval of bystanders, inhibits true acceptance. Her work
was published in 1968 by Farrar, Straus, and Giroux to an American magazine Vogue, in a time
when many intellectual Americans believed they were standing at the dawn of the Golden Age. The
emergence of The Human Potential Movement, in the 1960s, would authorize full use of personal
capacities, leading to self–actualization and fulfillment of pleasure. In today's society, many people
find themselves unsuccessful, according to the definition created by society, ... Show more content

As a result of this rejection, Didion developed the definition of self–respect that we all accept, one
placing the opinion of others above her own. This personal and vulnerable memory included in the
essay marks a point in Didion's life where she encountered an unfair situation and began to struggle
with acceptance of self–respect. Here, Didion dismisses the preconceived notion that she always
held full self–respect for herself by labeling herself inferior to the sorority. Despite Didion's current
achievements for the popular Vanity Fair magazine, this personal anecdote shows failure, allowing
Didion to appeal to ethos and pathos. She does not intend for the audience to sympathize for her
shame, but to provide a personal example of the negative impact an ordinary individual can
encounter with the incorrect definition of self–respect. Didion also displays credibility by re–
evaluating her own level of self–respect to relate with the audience as they develop this
characteristic. Didion uses inclusive pronouns such as, "we" and "our," to once again highlight that
she is relatable to the audience. This allows for construction of Didion's character by displaying
credibility by appearance of standard individual, rather than a famous author and model. Didion's
use of ethos allows her to present

The Establishment Of Black Greek Lettered Organizations
The establishment of Black Greek–lettered organizations is an important cornerstone for the
solidarity of black people. As many others are concerned, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. was the
first Black fraternal group, but on the contrary there were several other attempts to begin like
organizations. Unfortunately, it was so that the due to the overwhelming stress of racism that these
organizations were not allowed to thrive. In particular, the chapter goes in to semi–significant depth
about the infrastructure of the Masons secret society. Originally, the Masons were legitimately a
group of stonemasons during the fourteenth century. They would form lodges located in different
regions in which the members would seek membership. This idea runs parallel to present day Black
Greek–lettered organization as there are chapters at different universities where an upstanding
gentleman would seek membership. Also, the behavior of developing code language and grips to
identify true members of the organization was also adopted from Masonic tradition. Where the
Masons enter the conversation of Black fraternal orders is in 1787 when the first all–black lodge
was founded. Arguably, these lodges of Free Masons is the true beginning of Black fraternities.
Another noted organization that may be credited as an earlier Black Greek–lettered organization is
Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. It is more commonly noted that this organization was founded on
January 5, 1911, however, it is revealed

Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity Community Service

  • 1. Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity Community Service While attending Sacred Heart University I was involved in many different activities. One that I cared most about was community service. Pi Kappa Phi fraternity is one of the few social organizations that owns and operates their own philanthropy. As a member of the fraternity, it was my duty to come up with new ideas on fundraising. One of the national organizations main fundraising events is called "Gear Up Florida" where members ride their bikes across certain parts of Florida. Using this information we decided to ride on a stationary bike for 24 hours straight in the main academic building. We implemented this fundraiser my sophomore year and because of its huge success it is still being used today by the younger members. We also participate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity Case Study I am incredibly excited to apply for a Educational or Strategic Growth consultant position with Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity. I am currently a Masters of Public Administration candidate at Southern Illinois University – Edwardsville. I am working towards beginning a career in student affairs, specifically in Fraternity and Sorority life. I believe that my leadership positions within the Illinois Eta chapter, volunteer experience, and para – professional experience in a university setting make me a viable candidate for either of these roles. I have an abundance of experience within the my chapter. From 2010–2012 I held the positions of New Member Educator, Vice President, and President. In the roles I was able to have first–hand experience with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Statement Of Purpose: The Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society Our family has been blessing people by providing a food pantry out of our home for the community for the past two years; before that we did a food ministry out of our church for six years, blessing thousands of family a month. I am very active in our current church, i run the soundboard and the computer/projector during Sunday service. I'm always willing to help others, I have 1700+ volunteer hours over the past seven years. Currently i am holding a 4.00 gpa in my college classes and I'm on the schools president's list. I've recently applied and have been accepted in the Phi Theta kappa honors society. Currently my main goal is to retain my 4.00 gpa while going back into the work force. I will be completing my certificate program ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Application Essay To Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society The moment I changed the background color on my Commodore 64 I knew I wanted to do something with computers when I grew up. Of course, as a young child, I really had no idea what computers were capable of, but the connection was clear. The next few years were spent learning about computers and electronics. I was so curious that every single phone, alarm clock, and remote were disassembled and reassembled multiple times. Most of the time it was put back together and nobody ever knew, but occasionally that screw I could not find a hole for would betray me. This curiosity continued with lawnmower engines, trimmers, and anything new that came into the house. My behavior became more than just a curiosity when I started disassembling the family car. Front Range Community College has provided a wonderful framework to guide me and provided opportunities to work on my academics, volunteer, and grow. I am on track to finish my Associates Degree in Communication this year. I have maintained a 3.92 GPA as a board member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is time to continue my growth in a school where I can focus my academics in information technology while learning how to transform the world around me. Regis and Jesuit academics are known for more than just teaching an academic subject, they are known for teaching the whole person with an emphasis on service to others. It is critical that I am able to show the important connection between school and community to my daughter. As she decides what values are most important to her and which college to attend, I will not only teach her, I will live what it means to develop the whole person. Integrating public service into academics, ABET certification, NSA designation and a generous transfer agreement make Regis University the top choice to continue my education and build character worthy of the Jesuit ... • 5. What Are The Similarities Between Grendel And Beowulf Burton Nathan Raffel was born on April 27, 1928. Raffel loved education, and obtained many degrees which included his bachelor's, master's, and J.D. These degrees were obtained from very prestigious colleges and universities such as Brooklyn College, Ohio State University, and Yale University. In 1964 Raffel recorded an album in conjunction with Robert P. Creed and Folkway Records. The album they recorded was entitled "Lyrics from the Old English"; Raffel got his translation of "Nibelungenlied" published through Yale University Press. Raffel not only translated other artist work but, he was an artist himself. Mr. Raffel wrote poems and scripted a film called "The Legend of Alfred Packer". Raffel also had his translation of "The Canterbury tales" ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Burton Raffel had to really understand these stories and their meanings behind them to translate them into what the authors had originally wrote and intended the story to be. The original writings are not written in Morse code they are just written from a different time period and in a different language that we in modern society are not accustomed to. Raffel was extremely intelligent and had the skills and capabilities that not everyone has, he had background knowledge of those periods and can interpret many languages. Those traits and skills are what have given us an accurate translation of the story without completely butchering the author's art and intentions. He has this thirst for education that has driven him to learn the details and basically show us points of views that we would not have originally see. I am a fan of his work because during my research I found many critics who had agreed that Raffel did not destroy or change the work of the author which is hard to do especially because he could not use his personal feelings while attempting to understand it. He had to step in their shoes and write what he best thought they would have written in our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first known HBCU was a school in Philadelphia called Cheyney University of Pennsylvania. Today there are 100 private and public institutions. Some of the top colleges are Spelman College, Morehouse College, Morgan state university, Virginia State University, Virginia Commonwealth University, and Virginia Union University. On the other hand, A PWI, predominantly white institution, was established prior to 1964. These schools were mostly for whites but of course some of these labeled PWI's were slightly integrated. Some PWI's are Virginia Commonwealth University, Clarke University, Huntington University. There are many reasons anyone would want to go to a HBCU or a PWI, and it is not race thing anymore. Most people follow after their family. Most African American students who attend a HBCU because of family background. Often times students do not think about the schools as PWI's or HBCU's because for example, Virginia Union University and Virginia Commonwealth University are so close to one another, you may remember that VUU is a HBCU, and forget VCU is a PWI. • 7. My First Reading Reflection By Carson F. Dye Our first reading reflection was based on books that have put leadership into practice. In other words we read how the protagonist in the story has applied leaderships skills into their own career path. "Checklist Manifest: How To Get Things Right" and "Mountains Beyond Mountains" were both great read for me. Now we have switched gears to the book called "Leadership in Healthcare: Essential Values and Skills" this has focused on describing various additives that make up a great leader. We will discuss and explore some of the terms and suggestions written here by Carson F. Dye on makes a great leader. To me leader is someone who shows passion for the work he does and is eager to share it with the team, so as a whole the company or institution can move to a more efficient and productive environment. Essentially, every leader should have one thing in which is to enhance the current situation in the workplace whatever it may be, and by no means to be selfish. It all comes down to being transparent in your organization and gaining loyalty from the colleagues. "A leader is only as effective as the support that his followers grant him. Gaining that support is not possible if the leader does not earn others' trust and loyalty" (Dye, C., 2010, p.56). Carson F. Dye could have not written better regarding how team dynamics work at the workplace. Not having trust in you leader leads to suspicion, and even worse, a control freak of the duties that are delegated because if you cannot ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Desire To Be An Alpha Man Essay Tarvaris Shegog Why I Desire To Be an Alpha man Growing up in an one bedroom single parent home with eight kids I was an angry child faced with countless obstacles growing up. The things that I have seen and the situations I have been in through growing up I know that I shouldn't be here today. There are guys that I grew up with who are now either dead, in jail, or still in the streets. By overcoming these things it has molded me into the young man I am today; a person who is determined to be great and determined to leave an impact on people's lives in everything that I do. As I continue to grow, others are seeing the transition that I am making into a black man who while he may be from the projects he is taking actions to become better and ... I've taken the lessons I've learned whether they were explicitly from Xavier and Delvin or from simply observing an Alpha Man with me when I joined my first organization Generation of Educated Men (GEM) a community service based organization where I currently serve as Mr. GEM. No matter how long ago I learned those lessons they still resonate with me just as strong if not stronger, this is shown through my most recent accomplishment of becoming a member of Alpha Kappa Psi Professional Business Fraternity. I am thankful for the guidance that I have received from the Men of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated both intentional and unintentional, and if I am perchance selected to start the process of becoming a Man of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated I will continue to remember where I have come from and remember how two men helped me change my life and in turn helping me to make it this far, and how one day I would like to be the Xavier Robinson and Delvin Woodard who helped change the life of a young Tarvaris ... • 9. The Incident Of Troy University 's Homecoming "Something bad is about to happen," I stated as I looked over to my cousin's best friend. Apparently, I had spoken too soon. Pow! Pow! Shots were fired. Crowds of people were frantically running in every direction. What had just happened was not expected and had definitely never taken place before. Troy University's Homecoming Weekend in the past years had never encountered violence on this level. There was maybe a fight here and there, but never gunshots. I had never been so scared in my life. Troy University Homecoming 2016 had officially been ruined after this night. That weekend began like any other homecoming weekend. It was filled with fraternity parties, tailgating, and much more. A sense of nervousness came over my body as I began to look at the capacity of people standing outside waiting. That's when I noticed two groups of people having a confrontation right behind my group of friends. The conversation quickly escalated as one of the members of the group swings a punch at another member of the other group. The brawl was on; in a blink of an eye, both groups were on the ground tumbling and throwing punches. People were running towards the fight for some odd reason; instead, me and the girls ran towards the door of the building. "Something bad is about to happen," I stated as I looked over to my cousin's best friend. Apparently I had spoken too soon. As I watched one of the members of the fight get up from the ground and reach into his pocket, I knew what was coming next. Fear immediately took over my body. Pow! Pow! Shots were fired. Crowds of people were frantically running in every direction. I began to bang on the door of the building in terror. Thankfully, someone inside the party heard the gunshots, and ran to open the door for us. Everyone stampeded into the lobby of Sartain Hall like a herd of animals. • 10. My Life, Basketball, And My Philosophy Of Basketball My adult life, and my philosophy on life was shaped on a basketball court, and by my father. He was the coach of my AAU girl's basketball team, and he instilled in us a philosophy of hard work. We were no normal girl's basketball team, and My father's coaching philosophy rein on a team of twelve as we waited our turn to take the court. Anticipation greeted determination in rhythmic thuds in the background. The pace of the rhythm ever so often broken by a screech of rubber to maple. Hard work brought us to this last scrimmage against the opposing team. As an AAU team, our practices in Pennsylvania were purposely constructed against stronger and more developed players. As women, we trained against male players with a men's ball. We brought agility whereas they brought strength. My father, "coach Ed", designated weekend scrimmages against the best AAU teams in our county. The practices resulted in gaining stride as we vectored against a multitude of opponents. It was these practices that brought us to that courtside moment, seven hundred and ninety–three miles from Pennsylvania, where we were anticipated medaling in the State Games of America. Two hours and twenty minutes later, each of us twelve doe– eyed girls announced victory with a freshly polished tin and copper medal fitted into the palm of our hands. My father's philosophy was simple, "In order to become successful, we must align ourselves with success". His philosophy and this experience coached me through various ... Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society Members of Omega Sigma, Houston Community College's chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, hosted their first general meeting of the fall semester on Sept 4 at the West Loop campus. These Kappians had some supurb advice for new students at HCC. "When you get into HCC, you're going to think, 'Hey, it's just a community college'. You just go to your class – that's all – and then get out. No! It's not. You have got to participate. You got to go to organizations, you go to clubs. There are so many opportunities," said Nga Phan about HCC's student life, "So just look around, befriend students, befriend your professor, be in clubs. The process of integrating colleges was a process faced with opposition because the idea that higher education was made for strictly for white upper–class men was still the underlying ideal. While equal opportunity was promoted in the light, behind the scenes, systematically money, policy, procedure hindered black education and equal opportunity. Realizing this injustice, black students sought to find their own solutions to social justice issues happening not only within higher education but their communities while leading by example. On December 5, 1776 the first collegiate fraternal greek letter organization in the United States, Phi Beta Kappa was founded at Yale, the College of William and Mary.Building from the example of literary organizations, which were based on literary debates, and election, Phi Beta Kappa set many standards for collegiate greek letter organizations in the realm of rituals/traditions, selective admittance, faculty and community support. It was not until one hundred and thirty years that the first black greek letter organization, Alpha Phi Alpha was founded. The need of this organization emerged from a lack of admittance and representation in social clubs and greek organizations established on college ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Pitkin Views Representation Of A Sorority Executive... Professor Uhlaner Political Science 137BW November 17, 2016 Paper 4 In her book, Pitkin views representation in four partial views in order to get a better understanding of the overall term. "Acting for" differs from the other views in that it is focused on the substance of representing. Pitkin also brings up the "Mandate–Independence Controversy" which describes the conflict of how representatives should act. The mandate view of representation is where the representative's choices reflect the views of the represented; he is bound by the instructions from them. Independence view gives the representative more freedom as long as it's still what is best for the constituents. Both these views offer ways of viewing how a representative should behave. This principle is demonstrated in a sorority executive council. There are different council positions that demonstrate different strategies used to represent the sorority. There is no clear answer to how much freedom a representative should have when acting for the represented. However, the mandate–independence view and Pitkin's analogies offers a way of viewing this question. Pitkin's five analogies for explaining substantive representation will be discussed to further explain this concept: actor, trustee, substitute, ambassador, and specialist. Each analogy has its strengths in defining representation and its shortcomings. The first analogy is an actor which acts on the behalf of someone else and is "someone who does the actual ... She followed up this interest by writing a letter to the President of the Supreme chapter of the PEO, Alice Scott. Stockard offered to speak at the Supreme Chapter Convention to offer the college as a gift to the PEOs. According to the 1927 PEO Record from November, Mrs. Edith Pritchard (the past president of the Supreme Chapter) visited the college, as did Mrs. Hallie Newell, and both of them gave positive feedback at the Convention. Stockard spoke at the Convention, and the very next day the PEO Sisterhood accepted the college. The PEOs also agreed to bulk up the Endowment Fund to $200,000, one of the provisions of the gift. Thus, his intended audience are people who are of higher education, scholars, and educators. Both himself, and the audience have shared values which entail: "independent thinking, self–knowledge", education, "commitment to the affairs of the world", and scholarship and intellect. Rodriguez convinces the audience to seriously consider his claim through effective appeals to ethos and pathos. Ethos is developed in the area of authority by personal anecdotes and in the area of credibility by shared values. Pathos is effectively evoked via experiences he had that make the audience more likely to pause and consider his claim. First, Rodriguez develops ethos in the area of authority, which is the author's ability to demonstrate a command over a subject matter and to offer an informed persona. Although Rodriguez initially struggled with his adjustment into the American society and speaking English, he did not let that limit his capabilities of being a successful in the classroom. The biggest and most important choice is which college to attend. Do you want to stay close to home or go far away? The biggest question is what size of college is right for you. Furthermore, I used three colors: cerulean blue, chartreuse green, and indigo purple throughout the project. Lastly, I added a barcode, a record label logo, and fictitious information to make the entire CD package look realistic. Typography Calendars For the month of May, I created a calendar page using Franklin Gothic typeface and added different shades of green and a beige color for the background in the calendar. I expanded the word "May" and composed the days of the month and weeks into the word itself. I also included the history of Franklin Gothic and added "Franklin Gothic" at the bottom of the composition. Lastly, I added "2015" on top of the bottom base to complete the calendar. For the month of October, I used the font Times New Roman and used different shades of the color red throughout the whole calendar. • 35. Persuasive Essay On Racism For years, students complained, saying University of Maryland officials needed to do more to prevent or respond to racist incidents on campus. Then Richard Collins III was stabbed to death at a campus bus stop. The death of the young black Army lieutenant –– just three days before his graduation –– spurred renewed tensions at UMD and prompted officials to roll out a series of new anti–hate initiatives. "As we grieve the loss of Lt. Richard Collins III of Bowie State University, we must also act to combat hate and create a safer campus," UMD President Wallace D. Loh said in a statement Wednesday. But even before Collins' death, the university has been grappling with a series of racially charged incidents. Racist flyers, slurs and a noose Tamara Adams vividly remembers the day she saw the white nationalist flyers posted on campus: "America is a white nation," it read. "I questioned whether or not I (as an African–American) was welcome on the University of Maryland campus," the senior said. Those posters went up in March. The next month, someone left a noose in the kitchen of UMD's Phi Kappa Tau fraternity house. UMD police called the incident a "hateful act" and launched a "hate/bias investigation." Student Alexis Ojeda–Brown refused to stay silent. Earlier this month, she used a bullhorn to denounce the noose incident on an open area of campus –– only to have students respond by saying, "Who cares?" Many students recalled a fraternity member's racist email that was eventually ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Analysis Of Didion 's ' On Self Respect In Didion's emotional yet dominant essay, "On Self– Respect," found in Slouching Towards Bethlehem, she defines the true meaning of value to oneself, while indicating that reactions of weakness and humiliation, based on the approval of bystanders, inhibits true acceptance. Her work was published in 1968 by Farrar, Straus, and Giroux to an American magazine Vogue, in a time when many intellectual Americans believed they were standing at the dawn of the Golden Age. The emergence of The Human Potential Movement, in the 1960s, would authorize full use of personal capacities, leading to self–actualization and fulfillment of pleasure. In today's society, many people find themselves unsuccessful, according to the definition created by society, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a result of this rejection, Didion developed the definition of self–respect that we all accept, one placing the opinion of others above her own. This personal and vulnerable memory included in the essay marks a point in Didion's life where she encountered an unfair situation and began to struggle with acceptance of self–respect. Here, Didion dismisses the preconceived notion that she always held full self–respect for herself by labeling herself inferior to the sorority. Despite Didion's current achievements for the popular Vanity Fair magazine, this personal anecdote shows failure, allowing Didion to appeal to ethos and pathos. She does not intend for the audience to sympathize for her shame, but to provide a personal example of the negative impact an ordinary individual can encounter with the incorrect definition of self–respect. Didion also displays credibility by re– evaluating her own level of self–respect to relate with the audience as they develop this characteristic. Didion uses inclusive pronouns such as, "we" and "our," to once again highlight that she is relatable to the audience. This allows for construction of Didion's character by displaying credibility by appearance of standard individual, rather than a famous author and model. Didion's use of ethos allows her to present ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. The Establishment Of Black Greek Lettered Organizations The establishment of Black Greek–lettered organizations is an important cornerstone for the solidarity of black people. As many others are concerned, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. was the first Black fraternal group, but on the contrary there were several other attempts to begin like organizations. Unfortunately, it was so that the due to the overwhelming stress of racism that these organizations were not allowed to thrive. In particular, the chapter goes in to semi–significant depth about the infrastructure of the Masons secret society. Originally, the Masons were legitimately a group of stonemasons during the fourteenth century. They would form lodges located in different regions in which the members would seek membership. This idea runs parallel to present day Black Greek–lettered organization as there are chapters at different universities where an upstanding gentleman would seek membership. Also, the behavior of developing code language and grips to identify true members of the organization was also adopted from Masonic tradition. Where the Masons enter the conversation of Black fraternal orders is in 1787 when the first all–black lodge was founded. Arguably, these lodges of Free Masons is the true beginning of Black fraternities. Another noted organization that may be credited as an earlier Black Greek–lettered organization is Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. It is more commonly noted that this organization was founded on January 5, 1911, however, it is revealed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
