The Computing Innovation And Computational Artifact
Written Responses
2a. Provide information on your computing innovation and computational artifact.
Name the computing innovation that is represented by your computational artifact.
Describe the computing innovation's intended purpose and function.
Describe how your computational artifact illustrates, represents or explains the computing innovation's intended purpose, its function or its effect.
(Approximately 100 words)
The computing innovation that is being represented by my artifact is Email. Email is when you mail someone a message electronically from your
computer to their computer. Before the innovation of Email, people needed to write a letter and add the address and stamp. Then put the letter into their
mailbox and wait for the postal service to pick it up. Once the postal service picked up the letter and sorted out where it is going to go, it gets delivered
to the recipient 's mailbox and they can then pick it up and read it. Now, that email has been invented, you can send the letter through email, which is a
lot faster and less time consuming.
2b. Describe your development process, explicitly identifying the computing tools and techniques you used to create your artifact. Your description
must be detailed enough so that a person unfamiliar with those tools and techniques will understand your process.
(Approximately 100 words) To make the artifact i used Canva, which lets me make graphic designs. I used a blank custom sized graphic to start. Next, I

Is Wikipedia Reliable? Essay
Badke (2008) begins his article reminding us that Wikipedia although controversial is still the online encyclopedia of choice by 36% of the United
States population according to Pew Internet & American Life Project's findings. (As quoted by Badke, para. 1)
Even if the public likes it, though, for the most part academic circles do not. Many professors will not allow their students to use Wikipedia. These
professors think Wikipedia is trivial, untrustworthy, insulting, and too often completely incorrect. (2008, para. 4) Could this be because the university
world is jealous? It is true that true academics are the experts and if a layperson wants the facts, they are the best resource. However, because of the
zealous use of electronic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was not until I took a course at UNT that I realized that Wikipedia is a product of whoever wishes to write. Any time, I have consulted Wikipedia, I
have found the information on par with other sources. There is always a reference list at the end of the articles, with resources to use for further
research. My vote is for letting students use it as one resource, but not their only resource.
In her article, Murley (2010) presents different reasons to use Wikipedia to teach students how to evaluate and edit articles. She believes that she has
found Wikipedia to be a valuable source to find a link or reference to answer questions.
Wikipedia has existed since January 2001 by Jimmy Wales and Larry Sanger. Wikipedia is an online encyclopedia written and edited by volunteers.
Murley states that as of March 2008, Wikipedia contained more than nine million articles, of which two million were in English. More than 75,000
contributors write in more than 250 languages. (2010, p. 594) However, any one can edit an existing article by clicking on the edit tab found at the top
of an article. Only anonymous registered users add new articles. These articles must meet Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. All references must be
verifiable and the tone must be neutral. If the article does not meet all of the criteria, Wikipedia's

The Importance Of Writing In Writing
Writing from sources is very important for academic inquiry. It plays an important role in publication as well. Writing from the sources in introductory
writing sources devoted to research writing, critical thinking, analysis, and argument. Writing from sources made people to write some valuable
research on summary. Students have to be sure that they are using the right sources, and they are understanding the material. The main reason for patch
writing on papers is that students do not understand the material. Students have to understand the subject to be able to write a good summary and
analysis. Students usually patch writing on papers when they don't understand the material. I used to do the same thing when I couldn't understand the
subject. Analyzing the material and trying to avoid becoming confused by data smog, can help students to avoid patch writing.
According to Howard (1993), "we define patchwriting as reproducing source language with some words deleted or added, some grammatical structures
altered, or some synonyms used".Patchwriting is when students use the source language with some words deleted or added. The grammatical
instruction and language is the same. They just exchange some words to their synonyms. Patchwriting can be considered plagiarism. If students
understand the material, they do not need to use the patchwriting. They can start writing the summary or analysis by using their own vocabulary.
Patchwriting make the readers very confused because they

Nicholas Carr : The Negative Impact Of The Internet
Growing up as a child I've always used the internet as a source to chat with my friends and family online, to do my homework, and play games. I've
been on the internet since I was 10 years old. It's a reliable source I always go to answer my questions. Our society now relies on the internet to answer
all of our questions on a daily basis. In Nicholas Carr article his beliefs are that the internet has changed our society in many ways and it has created a
negative effect to our way of thinking. However, the internet has provided a positive interaction to college students knowledge, such as YouTube videos
offering tips on how to fix things, learn different languages, and how to solve classroom related problems. Carr argues his point in his article "Is Google
Making Us Stupid", and believes that the internet is our primary source of information which effects our ability to read books. Carr explains how him
and his colleagues struggle with reading a book now because he is use to the internet, which I potentially agree with, I believe it could affect your
reading skills; "If you've ever gotten a headache staring at pages filled with text or felt like you couldn't focus when reading a simple paragraph the
internet has affected with your attention span" (Morgan). The internet does take an affect in your brain. Carr addresses his new idea of considering the
mind as a computer, and he feels bad for the loss of reading and what it provides for our brains. We have developed a

Source Anonymous Research Paper
Sit tight for the journey ahead as I explain to you, on my coffee–induced, sleep–deprived binge–writing, the ethics of source anonymity in journalism–
for the purpose of this paper, I will be writing about Canada specifically. More specifically, I will touch upon the following: What is the reliability of
the source? Why would a source have to be kept anonymous? To what extent does a journalist keep a source confidential? Firstly, I will go on to briefly
describe the Canadian Act that protects whistle–blowers (the term used to describe someone who brings an issue to light, almost always in their
organization) and the shield law. Next, I will be discussing the ethics in keeping a source anonymous from the utilitarian point of view, as well as ...

As stated in the CAJ Ethics Guidelines, under Promises to Sources, it is important to discuss with a source wanting to be kept anonymous whether or
not you, as a journalist, are willing to go to jail for keeping them anonymous when ordered by a court. It is important to discuss with your source that, if
they mislead or lie to you about anything they say, the promise of keeping their anonymity is off. There have been many cases of journalists going to
jail for keeping a source anonymous, even in the face of the law. If this doesn't show principle, then I don't know what does. There is also the aspect of
acting from duty: a journalist has the duty of reporting to the public in order for them to know the truth about what's happening in the world. The right
thing to do is to keep the source anonymous if it means that an important story or high–classified information will be out for the public to know–it is
their right to know. In this perspective, a journalist does not look at their personal consequences–possible incarceration–but on the nature of their action
to liberate the truth. They have the good intention, which makes it deontological. If we take a look at the first form of the categorical imperatives, it
follows this as well because of the way they act: keeping a promise they made. A journalist also has true freedom because they have the autonomy to
put themselves in a position of being in a bad situation with the law, using their rationality to weigh the options of leaking a good story or the
possibility of suffering consequences for

Abstract This study investigates consumers' usage of online recommendation sources and their influence on online product choices. A 3 (websites) × 4
(recommendation sources) × 2 (products) online experiment was conducted with 487 subjects. Results indicate that subjects who consulted product
recommendations selected recommended products twice as often as subjects who did not consult recommendations. The online recommendation source

In an effort to extend Andreasen's (1968) typology to computer–mediated environments, we assert that information sources can be sorted into one of
four groups: (1) Personal source providing personalized information (e.g., "My sister says that this product is best for me."); (2) Personal source
providing non–personalized information (e.g., "A renowned expert says that this product is the best."); (3) Impersonal source providing personalized
information (e.g., "Based on my profile, the recommender system suggests this product."); (4) Impersonal source providing non–personalized
information (e.g., "According to Consumer Reports, this is the best product on the market."). In consumer research, studies on personal influence, social
influence, or WOM, can be categorized as studies investigating personal sources providing personalized or non–personalized information. Furthermore,
studies dealing with reference groups encompass such sources as well as impersonal sources that provide non–personalized information. Thus, a new
area has emerged in consumer research, arising mainly from information technologies such as the Internet: that of impersonal sources that provide
personalized information (Alba et al., 1997; Ansari et al., 2000; Häubl & Trifts, 2000; Maes, 1999; Urban, Sultan, & Qualls, 1999; West et

Annotated Bibliography On Video Games
Annotated Bibliography I decided to research the negative effect video games have on people.Video games, especially violent ones, have become
increasingly popular over the last several years. Kids will sit in front of a television for hours straight playing the same game. In these games, they kill
humans, zombie, animals, and more. I've always wonder what effect these violent games have on people. Staring at these aggressive video games for so
long can't be a good thing. Kids find video games so addictive; they can't put them down. This is why I decided to research this topic. To find out the
different ways these games can affect people.
Once I started researching this topic, I found out that video games can affect people's moods making them more aggressive and irritable. People
become obsessed with video games and often withdraw from normal life (work, school, and family). They can acquire social anxiety or depression
from the lack of daily socialization. Some people become very unproductive and only care about their game. It's like the video game takes over people's
lives.
I found articles, books, and reports relating to my topic that each gave me more information on the topic. All of them included facts backing up their
ideas and many stated the same ideas. I found these sources by using a database, that way I knew they were reliable. The most useful sources were the
books. They provides the most information while staying unbiased. These sources make me think about

My Reflection Of My Personal Experience In College Writing
Being away from college for three years you forget the basic understanding of particular material f or me it was writing. Luckily enough while on
deployment I came across a class call Introduction to Writing. Writing 101 help me familiarize myself with the basic grammar and mechanics in college
writing, this was an opportunity that many military personnel are unfortunate to receive due to being deployed, where most service members have to
interact with their teacher via the internet. I have the chance of being placed in a hybrid class; this afforded me the opportunity to interact with both the
students and teacher on a weekly basis and give me a synopsis of what college life is like when I transition to becoming a full–time studen t. Because of
Writing 101, I was able to distinguish the difference between active and passive voice when writing my essays. I develop an understanding of the

Television in Society
Synthesis Essay
Television, a widely accepted form of media and communication, has spread into the political world with an amazing speed. There are both useful and
detrimental aspects to this newfound relationship between television and politics. Sources A and E describe the more useful aspects of television within
the political sphere, whereas Sources B and C portray the contrastingly detrimental aspects. Television has become useful in keeping the public
informed as to public issues, political rivalries and of course, the political elections. "One of the great contributions expected of television lay in its
presumed capacity to inform and stimulate the political interests of the American electorate," (Source A), suggests the increased communication
between the public and their political system. Citizens are able to receive a quick, presumably reliable source of information they otherwise would
usually receive later, with less details, and second–hand. The televised events create "a new, immediate contact with political events" (Source A), which
is important as technology allows for greater global and national communication. Additionally, Source E portrays the importance of public opinion and
the sway of television over political leaders for significant events. The significance of television in conjunction with the political leaders themselves are
exemplified by the fact that "if Walter Cronkite thought that the war was hopeless, the American people would think so

“the Evacuation of Children in World War Two Was a Great...
"The evacuation of children in World War Two was a great success." How far do the sources you have used support this interpretation of evacuation in
World War Two? (25 marks)
Before the War in September 1939, the government understood the risk of air raids and the danger they bring upon major cities in England. Plans for
evacuation started as early as 15 years before in 1924; the Air Raid Precaution Committee (ARPC) identified London as the main target, with children
as the biggest concern. The government identified, after the ARPC produced a report on the potential disasters of air raid attacks in 1925, that
maintaining civilian morale was a priority, and that the fear of bombing would bring it down. So, to prevent low morale (and also ... Show more content

To further justify evacuation and therefore show its success in keeping evacuees safe, source six shows casualties in Liverpool. It shows that the death
rate was generally over 100 and even in May 1941, at 1453. Again, this justifies the need to evacuate and the safety achieved through evacuation.
Finally, sources three shows the success in evacuation as the sources show effectiveness and good organisation as a success of evacuation. This
encompasses overall efficiency and pre–evacuation planning. To be able to transport the huge amount of 1million (intended 4million) to the countryside
required this efficiency and overall, sources three and source two mention the efficiency and order of the transport (trains) and organisation in the
countryside. In source three, a newspaper article from Kent, says that the departures were efficient, reflecting that it was seen to that 'each child got
milk and food', and followed up with 'no confusion'. Even source two, though showing evacuation in a negative way, also comments that the trains 'ran
to time' and that evacuation came 'complete with teachers'. Having teachers is shown in sources one, three and four as well. In source one, it is shown as
a teacher with a group of children, in three there are mentioned 'teachers in charge' and in four, the graph shows about 103,000 teachers were evacuated.
The fact that they were able to organise having teachers for the children,

North Korean Missile Launch
After reading the articles about the North Korean missile launch on August 29th of 2017, Both news sources portray bias in their own particular ways
but Fox news seems to side. Fox states a quote from Trump talking about all options are on the table due to the fact that North korea just shot a missile

The one that used more quotes was the Washington Post which from doing some research is a democratic source. Which is why I think they used more
quotes on what Trump had to say about the situation to make it seem worse than it really was. Where Fox just got right to the point of what was going
on about the missile launch.
One thing that I noticed that was really strange about both articles were how similar the title and the start of the articles were to each other. The titles are
almost the exact same the word choice is used a little differently but very similar. As for the start of each article they both start off with the exact same
line with "President Trump said Tuesday that "all options are on the table". Then briefly after that get into the main subject of their stories. The
washington post provided a picture of trump right at the top of the article as well as a video of trump talking about the event and a video of the missile
being launched by north korea. Where Fox only provided one video of just 2 males talking about the event. All of these are very different from each
other and both are setting different tones and giving setting a bias tone in my opinion.
The articles both had very different sources on where they got their information for the article. Fox news claims that the associated press contributed to
the report. Where on the other hand the Washington Post got there sources

After thorough investigation into 5 sources referring to the working conditions for children in factories during the late eighteenth and early nineteenth

This makes us think that the workers are in fear of being sacked, which they couldn't afford to do with the lack of jobs in the area, so therefore say what
Greg wants them too. We also get the impression that Samuel Greg is always present, as if to make sure the employees do as they are asked. We are
also told that, "...everyone well paid, comfortable...", "...fine machinery..." and "...excellent lunch..." which makes us wonder whether Samuel Greg is
only showing the good points. Frederick Engles thinks that it was in–fact a staged visit and that all the bad conditions were kept hidden. He suggests
that Greg's' factory was a 'mockery'. Engle's uses a sarcastic tone for this source, which backfired as there are some positive comments. Finally, the
source is very generalised, which suggests it may have been a hypothetical visit, meaning Engles could be saying what 'could' happen?
The second source referred to child labour at Quarry Bank Mill in 1833. My source is an extract from an interview between the superintendents who
looked after Greg's apprentices at Quarry Bank Mill (George and Elizabeth Shawcross) and a government official checking on how apprentice children
were treated. The fact that this is just an extract from the interview makes us wonder what was said in the rest of it. If this extract was taken

Many of the views and actions of society and politics today are centered around the media, which keeps the public well informed on current events so
that the public can make educated decisions based on the information they have accrued to make change in the functions of our society, whether small

the author uses loaded and persuasive language to appeal to American sentiment. The very first sentence in the article states, "You sure have to hand it

Politics In Allen Guelzo's House Divided
The first of the two sources to be examined here is Allen Guelzo's House Divided: Lincoln, Douglas, and the Political Landscape of 1858. This source
took a more technical examination of not just the speeches and overall influence of Lincoln during this time, but also on where politics stood around the
middle of the nineteenth century. To begin with, this source took a more critical examination at the Lincoln–Douglas race from the perspective of the
complex political situation that was inherent during this time. That is to say, the campaigns that were waged were not merely about how viable each
candidate was for office, but rather the philosophical differences between these individuals and many others, according to the source. This means that
the source was able to take a closer look at why Abraham Lincoln, as well as Douglas, actually believed what they did. This retrospective aspect of the

Does Technology Help Children Help Or Hinder Their Social...
Summary of the research question and outcome
My guiding question for the research project was, "Does the use of technology to entertain children help or hinder their social development?" My
interest in this topic was triggered by the previous research project that was carried out in year 10. That project had a lot to do with human health and
the factors that affect that, so I decided to explore that in further depth using a different topic. Technology is becoming an increasingly more central
aspect of people's lives and hence it is an issue in society. I wanted to explore this topic and gain knowledge, which could then be used to share with
others who are concerned about the problem. My research was carried out mostly through secondary sources from the Internet and a primary source,
which was an observation. The key findings from my research were gathered and presented in the form of a report. In the report it was substantiated
that my research question wasn't fully answered, and the effect tablets/smartphones has on brain development were the main findings.
Tablets/smartphones have a significant impact on children's health and can lead to many physical, psychological and behaviour disorders.

Critical Narrative And Story Telling Style
English 2201 helped me discover not only myself as a writer, but allowed me to go more in depth with learning how to write in the field of my intended
discipline. This is the first specific English class I have taken that focused on the style of writing I will need to be familiar in the future with. Because of
that fact, I defiantly enjoyed this class. I feel like my knowledge and ability to navigate the writing techniques of my major have improved and my in–
text citations skills have improved greatly. Overall this course opened my eyes to the many different styles there are in the field of Communications,
which is my intended field of study, and how to use these styles correctly and efficiently. I learned an array of new things with every paper and project
we participated in. Our first project was a critical narrative styled paper. Personally when it comes to writing, I prefer the critical narrative and story
telling style because I enjoy putting my creative mind to work. It is easier for me to write down exactly what I am thinking, rather than writing research
papers with sources to go off of. So, I extremely enjoyed the first project. The main element I can take away from writing the Category 1: Writing in the

In order to do a proper analysis on a school counselor one must know what he or she does on a daily basis. This is to conduct a job analysis for a school
counselor and discuss how it will be used within the school system. Next to determine the reliability and validity of the school counselor analysis. Then
the performance and appraisal methods that apply to being a counselor will be evaluated. Finally the benefits and vulnerabilities of each performance
appraisal method will be explained. This will provide a full job analysis of a school counselor and what their job entails.

could even result in less bullying in the halls and after school. The ways that the subjective measures of job performance can evaluate ones job
performance is in the graphic rating form which assesses individuals on several dimensions of performance. This is like rating your job performance on
a scale of one to ten. The boss may make a performance rating on your job to tell the person how he or she is doing that week. The behavior focused
rating scale can be used to focus on ones behavior on the job. If a person has a good attitude then they may get a good behavior score. If he or she has a
bad attitude he or she may get a bad rating on the behavior score. This depends on the way the person acts and behaves while doing his or her job.
Other members of the staff may also rate ones behavior on the job. This will help the boss determine if they are getting along with you or if he or she is
causing trouble or are not well liked among your fellow employees. They may make observations on ones performance as well. If he or she is doing a
good job a terrible job or just a good enough jobs then he or she can be rated on that performance.

Life On Earth Is Dependent On The Functions Of Light As A...
Life on earth is dependent on the functions of light as a source of energy that has a direct or indirect effect on the sustainability of all organisms. Light
is defined as a portion of the electromagnetic spectrum detected by human eyes (Wilson, Nivillac, & Sheng, 2016, p.4); light as it passes through a
space, acts like waves and is composed of photon, containing a stream of energy particles. Light must be absorbed by an organism to utilize it as a
source of energy, however; absorption occurs when photon's energy is transmitted to an electron, matches with the energy needed to elevate the electron
from a ground state to an explicit excited state within a molecule. Energy from the sun as a light source enters the biosphere by the process of
photosynthesis, through which the energy of light is used to convert carbon dioxide into organic compounds. The balanced chemical equation for the
overall process of photosynthesis is: 6CO₂ + 12H₂O → C₆H₁₂O₆ + 6O₂+ 6H₂O (Wilson, Nivillac, & Sheng, 2016, p.145)
Photosynthesis occurs in two different processes: the light reaction and the Calvin cycle. This lab focuses on the light reaction stage of photosynthesis
in which the light energy is captured by pigment molecules and utilize energy to synthesize NADPH and ATP, resulting in the production of oxygen
(O₂) (Wilson, Nivillac, & Sheng, 2016, p.146). There are many factors that affect the rate of photosynthesis for accumulated O₂; however, in this
laboratory experiment the

`` Lights On At The End Of The Party ' : Are Lads And Rapists
Within ""Lights on at the End of the Party": Are Lads' Mags Mainstreaming Dangerous Sexism?" article written by Miranda A.H. Horvath, Peter
Hegarty, Suzannah Tyler, and Sophie Mansfield, the researchers explore the possible implications and similarities of "lads' mags" and rapists. Within
the first study, men are sampled to see how they identify with quotes from both sources and if the difference in source affects the result. In the second
study, a group of men and women are asked to distinguish between quotes from the magazines and rapists, as well as rank them on how derogatory they
were. The results from each study reveal shocking truths in society, and raises important questions. The main problem being, these magazines are
normalizing hostile sexism. "Lads' mags" can be found in the magazine racks and are similar to magazines such as GQ and Esquire, but aimed at a
younger audience. They pander to young adult men by offering advice on women, and relationships, as well as feature "humorous" articles. However,
the advice on women is crude and the pictures found in the pages of such magazines offer risqué imagery on women. When the editors of such
magazines are confronted about the attitude displayed towards women, they claim it's all in good fun and "obviously" ironic. Unfortunately, these
magazines are considered reputable learning sources for young adult men, but what they print isn't far from what a particular un–reputable source says:
rapists. Rapists also attempt to

Analysis Of Daniel Victor 's ' Why We All Lives Matter '
"All Lives Matter" hasn't brought people together," says Daniel Victor in his "Why 'All Lives Matter' Is Such a Perilous Phrase" article in The New
York Times. The term "All Lives Matters" has caused a bigger rift between different ethnic groups than intended. The phrase was initially intended to
bring people of every color together. There was hope that every race would stand side by side and face the perils of the world as a whole. However,
supporters of the Black Lives Matter campaign feel the term is aiding the public in downplaying the injustices of black Americans.
"Saying #AllLivesMatter is like running through a cancer fundraiser & saying 'There's other diseases too,'" says a source in Daniel Victor's article. The
Black Lives Matter campaign supporters believe every life is equally important as the next. Contrariwise, they also believe not every life goes through
the same troubles. Therefore, they deem attention and support should go to the lives that are in need of immediate backing. All lives do matter but as of
right now the lives of Black Americans are in need of support. The Black Lives Matter Campaign is not meant to put down other races it is meant to
bring up a race that is being put down. It is meant to help people who are in need. Victor's Audience are people who blindly believe the term "All Lives

How Does Warfare Effect People's Life?
When looking at all four sources, the proposition that warfare caused hardship for civilians is definitely true as it destroyed housing structures along
with daily items and other services.
Warfare destroyed the houses of civilians and in the process made life extremely difficult. This is a statement endorsed by all four of the sources.
Because the bombs destroyed civilians houses, the residents would spend most of their time rebuilding and cleaning up mess, giving them precious
little time to do other things. This is what source 2 tells us when it says, "everyone seems intent only on patching roofs [and] propping up walls",
suggesting that the civilians would slave away all day repairing housing just for them to be destroyed again by the next bombing raid. Source 3 also
says much the same thing as when it says, "Little children collected wood from the ruins for cooking", it seems to imply endless amounts of rubble.
Along with sources 2 and 3 we also can see in sources 1 and 4 that houses were destroyed. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Source 2 says, "These...raids are intended to...[break] the German moral...Indeed they are having the contrary effect" it shows that although many
hardships were faced, they only effected the civilians to an extent and source 2 also tells us that "people are being extraordinarily friendly and helpful to
one another" meaning that the people of WWII were a resilient bunch who never put their heads down even among such hardships as these.
In conclusion, the proposition that warfare caused hardship for civilian is very true as some civilians had to cope with no house, no running water, no
lighting, no fire and no public services. If in doubt that the people of WWII suffered incredible hardship, then Source 2 confirms it as it plainly states
that there was hardship by saying "Amidst such suffering and

Evaluation Of An Effective Evaluation Process
Data gathering, reviewing, and analyzation is a very important step in an effective evaluation or assessment process. The outcome as well as any
subsequent suggestions are based on the data and review provided during the initial process. Guerra–Lopez (2008) emphasized that the success of an
evaluation process is contingent upon five particular aspects about data and data sources: 1) data relevance, 2) data collection, 3) evaluating data, 4)
data reporting, and 5) avoiding data errors. These five items contribute to an improved method and technique to build a better performance evaluation
and supports the statistical finds and the qualitative impact of the communicated results. Data is used as a tool to measure various aspects within the ...

input sources, and political realms. More specifically, Guerra–Lopez (2008) claimed that an organizations internal sources of data input are often used
as a means to identify prior performance and assessments needs and results. These sources identified by Guerra–Lopez are as follows.
Strategic plan: Management's source for communicating the organization's vision, business plan, goals, and objectives. Describes the organizations
prior outcomes and outlook for the future of the company.
Annual reports: Identifies the immediate and potential future financial standing for the organization.
Project plans: List individual areas of concentration that connect directly with the organization's overall strategic plan. It compartmentalizes the
objectives of different divisions within the organization based on function and potential.
Consulting studies: An independent study focused on a narrow window of assessment. These studies are not evaluations in that they are not geared
towards measuring the outcome of a program or event but instead they are formed to review processes without labeling or assigning judgment or
measurements.

Factors to Determine the Validity of Information Sources...
Individuals such as university or high school students are, at one point or another in their studies, faced with the task of having to write a technical
report that involves a research (specifically focused on existing material). There is an abundance of information available in the world today, which
covers a vast amount of fields and all this information is readily available to the public but it is often unclear to these students that all the information
available may not always be credible and actually reliable or even true. The negligence of these students often results in non–factual research papers
that are poorly written up. The failure to check for reliable sources may lead to inadvertent plagiarism too. This report focuses on what makes sources
of information more reliable and credible than others, with a specific focus on research reports.
Readers seek sources of information that is trustworthy. That the creator, author or researcher's ideas are their own is substantiated mainly by evidence.
When given the task to have a research report written up, it usually entails doing research and finding information created by others, this being the case,
it is imperative that credible information should be used. Remember that if your audience has found the source you have cited from as a non–credible
source it could result in the relationship between you and your audience to suffer. There are various factors that determine the validity of a credible
source of information,

Construction Of A Data Warehouse
The process of where a data warehouse is fed with extracted source data is largely known as ETL (Extraction, Transforming and Loading). ETL is a
critical process in the construction of a data warehouse project.
The three stages of the ETL process comply of:
 Extraction: Data is identified and extracted from one or more external different sources, including applications and database systems.
 Transform: Data is transformed in the aim of ensuring consistency and satisfying business requirements.
 Loading: Data is loaded into the resultant data warehouse.
There are many challenges involved with fulfilling a dependable ETL process. Some of these relate to:
 Data volumes – as there are huge amounts of data available presently, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout extraction, the desired data is identified and extracted from the source system and is made available for additional processing. The data can
be extracted from numerous different sources. In most cases, the data sources are internal however sometimes they are external. The ultimate aim is to
retrieve all the essential data from the source system with as little resources as possible. The size of the data extracted can range from kilobytes to
gigabytes.
For extraction within the ETL to be positive and effective, it is essential that there is a high understanding of the data's layout. The data should also be
backed up in another location. Sometimes, it isn't possible to identify the exact subsection of interest, as a result a larger amount of data than needed has
to be extracted. Consequently, the identification part of extract is carried out further down the line within the ETL process. Depending on the
competence of the system, transformations can take place during the extraction stage of ETL.
The difficulty of the extraction step is dependent on how alike or unalike the source systems are and the type of source data. Good documentation along
with excellent maintenance and the use of similar technology within a system should result in fairly simple extraction process. On the other hand, poor
documentation and incompetent maintenance using different formats of data and technologies will result in

This article "One and Done" is an excerpt from her book "One and Only" and the reviews of this book come from extremely credible sources such as

"detrimental" to the child psychologically, and only–children are not different than kids with siblings. This piece was written July 7, 2010 so the
research and studies are very up to date. The main points of this article started out with the argument of why Sandler herself decided to have one child,
and this is based on how "the economy is sluggish... and raising kids cost a bundle. She describes the effects of the recession on the number of children
women bear, and points out that women are having less and less children because of their high costs. Sandler then goes on to discuss why people urge
families to have more than one child, and she uses personal experience of a cashier in a store to exemplify the pressure of having more kids. Sandler
investigates why there is such an aversion to have only one child, "single children are perceived as spoiled, selfish, solitary misfits," because this is
such a believable stereotype, parents are pressured to have multiple children because they "don't want to do that to their child." Sandler uses the study
by Granville Stanley Hall to act as a counterargument

How far do sources 11 & 12 challenge the view presented in source 10 about the conduct of the police on Black Friday?
The three sources to be compared are all in relation to the events that occurred on "Black Friday", particularly surrounding the conduct of the

they were trying to control, and that it took some effort to restrain the women that were protesting on that day. Whereas source 11, taken from a

"relentless struggle" occurred between the police and the suffragettes, but it disagrees with source 10 because it presents the view that it was the police
acting violently towards the women, who it says were "flung hither and thither amid moving traffic, and into the hands of a crows which was
sometimes rough and indecent". This opinion is presented because the purpose of the memorandum sent to the home office was to request a public
inquiry into the conduct of the police on "Black Friday", because they did not follow their "usual course of action" which "would have been to arrest the
women on a charge of obstruction" but they "had been instructed to avoid, as far as possible, making any arrests" which is why, the women argue that
the police were so violent. Also, this

In The Skin Of A Lion Character Analysis
In order for humans to be able to create meaningful relationships with one another, they need to be able to communicate with each other. If individuals
want to create relations with one another, they need to be able to understand each other. They also need to take the initiative to figure out others, and be
able to communicate and connect with each other. However, the only way that you can understand others is if you relate with one another, in order to
build relations and be comfortable around each other. In order for you to be able to connect with other people and have relations with others people, we
need to leave our comfort zone and relate to other people. Whether it be learning a new language or moving to a new place, just like the individuals in

Investigating Cableways And Design An Efficient Vertical...
Summary
To investigate cableways and design an efficient vertical transportation system for goods, in the hilltop communities of Nepal.
My research established an understanding of existing cableway technology and explored a practical engineering improvement for adaptation in
developing countries. I identified that engineering, a topic of personal interest, should be the field of research considered. A discussion with university
students was completed to find a specific issue that I could investigate. One topic suggested for investigation from the EngineersWithoutBorders
Challenge, inspired the research question.
The outcome format, a report, discussed my key findings and recommendations including; the nature of cableways, influence of local topography, and
constraints of existing technology. The majority of my secondary sources were reports written by academics or aid organisations, found on the web.
Emailed questionnaires and personal interviews provided critical information and practical critique of the design outcome. Analysis of findings
combined with creative thinking enabled a resolution of the research question. This was presented in the form of a proposed design at the conclusion of
the outcome report.

Evacuation was a Great Success Essay
Evacuation was a Great Success
There are many factors, which contribute to whether or not evacuation was a success. One major factor is the number of lives that were saved due to
evacuation. We now know that if evacuation had not taken place, a lot more people would have been killed in the Blitz (only were actually killed).
However, we also know that there were cases of abuse ('I had bruises from my neck right down to my ankles on both sides and on my left hip all my
clothes were stuck to my hip where it was bleeding' John Abbot) and children being used for slave labour etc because the host families were not
checked, and this is obviously a major failure.

Sources D and H deal with the stereotyping of evacuees. 'A traditional picture of evacuees emerged which suggested that all were infested with lice and
disease, had atrocious manners, constantly wet the bed and were likely to commit any number of crimes.'(The Evacuation – The True Story, Martin
Parsons and Penny Starns). The government had to try to change this image of evacuees to continue people volunteering to take in evacuees and to stop
parents worrying about their children. There was already a shortage of host families (source H), so they needed to convince people that evacuees were
not as bad as people said they were. There were also parents who were reluctant to allow their children to be evacuated (source I). Therefore, the
government had to produce propaganda that would please both parties. Both sources D and H would probably be convincing to both parties because
they both show the evacuees smiling and they both try to correct the rumours about evacuees (i.e. that they were dirty and impolite).
Sources B, D and H are useful for showing what the government was showing people to persuade them to evacuate their children, and allow evacuees
into their homes, in the early stages of the war. The government wanted to save the lives of British civilians, and they achieved this. From this point of
view, evacuation was a

The Importance Of A Steady Source Of Light
For thousands of years, man had used the sun as the main source of light during the day and fire by night. Light progressed from crude shells filled with
moss or animal fat to pottery vessels filled with whale oil2. In 1802, Humphry David placed two wires from a battery to a piece of carbon and created
the first electric light. While it did not produce light for very long and was too bright for everyday use, it gave hope to inventors everywhere who
believed that a steady source of light could be created3. It was not until almost seventy years and countless hours of research later, that the modern
electric light came into existence. This discovery literally changed the world. Thomas Edison recognized the importance of a steady source of light and
is credited with the first of several patents on a bulb that used a carbonized bamboo filament. But perhaps his most important contribution was to
recognize the future of the light bulb and he went on to invent a method of transporting electric current and tracking electric usage. Other inventors took
the light bulb to its next level with the invention of the tungsten filament and how to use an inert gas like nitrogen inside the bulb to increase
efficiency4. The first light bulb was called an incandescent bulb. This light bulb was originally produced by hand, but now the manufacturing process is
entirely automated and light bulbs are produced in a machine that can produce more than 50,000 bulbs per hour5. The production

The Worst Miracle Drug For Gastrointestinal Patients
The Worst Miracle Drug Scientists from the Netherlands, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Italy studied Ibuprofen, which originated as an anti–
acidic drug for gastrointestinal patients. The purpose of the study was to assess the "safety of non–inflammatory drugs " to treat cardiovascular disease
(BMJ 2016, pg.1). Accordingly, of this study 's 10 million participants, 92% had cardiovascular disease caused by painkillers, and those who stopped
using Ibuprofen reduced risk of worsening cardiovascular condition. Various age ranges received different treatments. For minors, physicians lowered
doses as a precautionary measure. By contrast, long term users above age seventy–seven who were prescribed higher doses showed an increased risk of
heart attack. Various ages, races, and sexes were tested to generalize results. Hospitalization occurred in 95% of frequent ibuprofen users. Long–term
usage showed destruction of the gastrointestinal tract. Ibuprofen was later found to lead to stomach ulcers. The label clearly explains to consumers to
consult a GI doctor before consumption. Ibuprofen deprives the heart of oxygen–enriched blood, which may result in heart failure. Readers will draw
focus on the alarm and potential health scares through medical evidence. As I compared the British Medical Journal and the guardian, all relative
information must be relayed throughout the document. All research shown in the BMJ was fully factual evidence based upon the experiment. The

`` Do Fingerprints Lie? By Michael Specter

Don't Believe In Everything You See
All over the world and as far as many people can remember, fingerprints have been used as a symbol of truth and justice in the forensics domain. The
art of fingerprinting has been seen as a closure to many major crimes that have put many people in prison. However, in his article "Do Fingerprints
Lie?" Michael Specter examines that fingerprinting has given rise to many questions as of the late 20th century. Fingerprints have been taken for
granted, almost like money, which in this century, people believe is the best item to be handed to us. People tend to take what they hear, and just go
with it without research or background knowledge. This practice has not been challenged as many concepts should. Specter brings in a solid argument
with a lot of knowledge to support his claims and factual evidence to set his article with high credibility. While Specter builds a strong argument, he
fails to consider how fingerprints have improved the forensic process.
The article "Do Fingerprints Lie?" is a critical analysis on the negative usage of fingerprints. Specter is going against the idea that fingerprints are
always the best way to figure out if someone is guilty He starts of by talking about a jury case where Shirley Mckie is falsely accused of perjury.
Mckie's fingerprint was found at a scene of a crime of a murder and her fingerprint was analyzed to match that of the actual

The Computing Innovation And Computational Artifact

  • 1. The Computing Innovation And Computational Artifact Written Responses 2a. Provide information on your computing innovation and computational artifact. Name the computing innovation that is represented by your computational artifact. Describe the computing innovation's intended purpose and function. Describe how your computational artifact illustrates, represents or explains the computing innovation's intended purpose, its function or its effect. (Approximately 100 words) The computing innovation that is being represented by my artifact is Email. Email is when you mail someone a message electronically from your computer to their computer. Before the innovation of Email, people needed to write a letter and add the address and stamp. Then put the letter into their mailbox and wait for the postal service to pick it up. Once the postal service picked up the letter and sorted out where it is going to go, it gets delivered to the recipient 's mailbox and they can then pick it up and read it. Now, that email has been invented, you can send the letter through email, which is a lot faster and less time consuming. 2b. Describe your development process, explicitly identifying the computing tools and techniques you used to create your artifact. Your description must be detailed enough so that a person unfamiliar with those tools and techniques will understand your process. (Approximately 100 words) To make the artifact i used Canva, which lets me make graphic designs. I used a blank custom sized graphic to start. Next, I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Is Wikipedia Reliable? Essay Badke (2008) begins his article reminding us that Wikipedia although controversial is still the online encyclopedia of choice by 36% of the United States population according to Pew Internet & American Life Project's findings. (As quoted by Badke, para. 1) Even if the public likes it, though, for the most part academic circles do not. Many professors will not allow their students to use Wikipedia. These professors think Wikipedia is trivial, untrustworthy, insulting, and too often completely incorrect. (2008, para. 4) Could this be because the university world is jealous? It is true that true academics are the experts and if a layperson wants the facts, they are the best resource. However, because of the zealous use of electronic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was not until I took a course at UNT that I realized that Wikipedia is a product of whoever wishes to write. Any time, I have consulted Wikipedia, I have found the information on par with other sources. There is always a reference list at the end of the articles, with resources to use for further research. My vote is for letting students use it as one resource, but not their only resource. In her article, Murley (2010) presents different reasons to use Wikipedia to teach students how to evaluate and edit articles. She believes that she has found Wikipedia to be a valuable source to find a link or reference to answer questions. Wikipedia has existed since January 2001 by Jimmy Wales and Larry Sanger. Wikipedia is an online encyclopedia written and edited by volunteers. Murley states that as of March 2008, Wikipedia contained more than nine million articles, of which two million were in English. More than 75,000 contributors write in more than 250 languages. (2010, p. 594) However, any one can edit an existing article by clicking on the edit tab found at the top of an article. Only anonymous registered users add new articles. These articles must meet Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. All references must be verifiable and the tone must be neutral. • 5. The Importance Of Writing In Writing Writing from sources is very important for academic inquiry. It plays an important role in publication as well. Writing from the sources in introductory writing sources devoted to research writing, critical thinking, analysis, and argument. Writing from sources made people to write some valuable research on summary. Students have to be sure that they are using the right sources, and they are understanding the material. The main reason for patch writing on papers is that students do not understand the material. Students have to understand the subject to be able to write a good summary and analysis. Students usually patch writing on papers when they don't understand the material. I used to do the same thing when I couldn't understand the subject. Analyzing the material and trying to avoid becoming confused by data smog, can help students to avoid patch writing. According to Howard (1993), "we define patchwriting as reproducing source language with some words deleted or added, some grammatical structures altered, or some synonyms used".Patchwriting is when students use the source language with some words deleted or added. The grammatical instruction and language is the same. They just exchange some words to their synonyms. Patchwriting can be considered plagiarism. If students understand the material, they do not need to use the patchwriting. They can start writing the summary or analysis by using their own vocabulary. Patchwriting make the readers very confused because they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Nicholas Carr : The Negative Impact Of The Internet Growing up as a child I've always used the internet as a source to chat with my friends and family online, to do my homework, and play games. I've been on the internet since I was 10 years old. It's a reliable source I always go to answer my questions. Our society now relies on the internet to answer all of our questions on a daily basis. In Nicholas Carr article his beliefs are that the internet has changed our society in many ways and it has created a negative effect to our way of thinking. However, the internet has provided a positive interaction to college students knowledge, such as YouTube videos offering tips on how to fix things, learn different languages, and how to solve classroom related problems. Carr argues his point in his article "Is Google Making Us Stupid", and believes that the internet is our primary source of information which effects our ability to read books. Carr explains how him and his colleagues struggle with reading a book now because he is use to the internet, which I potentially agree with, I believe it could affect your reading skills; "If you've ever gotten a headache staring at pages filled with text or felt like you couldn't focus when reading a simple paragraph the internet has affected with your attention span" (Morgan). The internet does take an affect in your brain. Carr addresses his new idea of considering the mind as a computer, and he feels bad for the loss of reading and what it provides for our brains. • 9. Source Anonymous Research Paper Sit tight for the journey ahead as I explain to you, on my coffee–induced, sleep–deprived binge–writing, the ethics of source anonymity in journalism– for the purpose of this paper, I will be writing about Canada specifically. More specifically, I will touch upon the following: What is the reliability of the source? Why would a source have to be kept anonymous? To what extent does a journalist keep a source confidential? Firstly, I will go on to briefly describe the Canadian Act that protects whistle–blowers (the term used to describe someone who brings an issue to light, almost always in their organization) and the shield law. Next, I will be discussing the ethics in keeping a source anonymous from the utilitarian point of view, as well as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As stated in the CAJ Ethics Guidelines, under Promises to Sources, it is important to discuss with a source wanting to be kept anonymous whether or not you, as a journalist, are willing to go to jail for keeping them anonymous when ordered by a court. It is important to discuss with your source that, if they mislead or lie to you about anything they say, the promise of keeping their anonymity is off. There have been many cases of journalists going to jail for keeping a source anonymous, even in the face of the law. If this doesn't show principle, then I don't know what does. There is also the aspect of acting from duty: a journalist has the duty of reporting to the public in order for them to know the truth about what's happening in the world. The right thing to do is to keep the source anonymous if it means that an important story or high–classified information will be out for the public to know–it is their right to know. In this perspective, a journalist does not look at their personal consequences–possible incarceration–but on the nature of their action to liberate the truth. They have the good intention, which makes it deontological. If we take a look at the first form of the categorical imperatives, it follows this as well because of the way they act: keeping a promise they made. A journalist also has true freedom because they have the autonomy to put themselves in a position of being in a bad situation with the law, using their rationality to weigh the options of leaking a good story or the possibility of suffering consequences for ... Journal of Retailing 80 (2004) 159–169 The influence of online product recommendations on consumers' online choices Sylvain Senecal a,∗ , Jacques Nantel a,1 a HEC Montreal, University of Montreal, 3000 Chemin de la Cote–Sainte–Catherine, Montreal, Que., Canada H3T 2A7 Abstract This study investigates consumers' usage of online recommendation sources and their influence on online product choices. A 3 (websites) × 4 (recommendation sources) × 2 (products) online experiment was conducted with 487 subjects. Results indicate that subjects who consulted product recommendations selected recommended products twice as often as subjects who did not consult recommendations. The online recommendation source labeled "recommender system," ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In an effort to extend Andreasen's (1968) typology to computer–mediated environments, we assert that information sources can be sorted into one of four groups: (1) Personal source providing personalized information (e.g., "My sister says that this product is best for me."); (2) Personal source providing non–personalized information (e.g., "A renowned expert says that this product is the best."); (3) Impersonal source providing personalized information (e.g., "Based on my profile, the recommender system suggests this product."); (4) Impersonal source providing non–personalized information (e.g., "According to Consumer Reports, this is the best product on the market."). In consumer research, studies on personal influence, social influence, or WOM, can be categorized as studies investigating personal sources providing personalized or non–personalized information. Furthermore, studies dealing with reference groups encompass such sources as well as impersonal sources that provide non–personalized information. Thus, a new area has emerged in consumer research, arising mainly from information technologies such as the Internet: that of impersonal sources that provide personalized information (Alba et al., 1997; Ansari et al., 2000; Häubl & Trifts, 2000; Maes, 1999; Urban, Sultan, & Qualls, 1999; West et ... • 13. Annotated Bibliography On Video Games Annotated Bibliography I decided to research the negative effect video games have on people.Video games, especially violent ones, have become increasingly popular over the last several years. Kids will sit in front of a television for hours straight playing the same game. In these games, they kill humans, zombie, animals, and more. I've always wonder what effect these violent games have on people. Staring at these aggressive video games for so long can't be a good thing. Kids find video games so addictive; they can't put them down. This is why I decided to research this topic. To find out the different ways these games can affect people. Once I started researching this topic, I found out that video games can affect people's moods making them more aggressive and irritable. People become obsessed with video games and often withdraw from normal life (work, school, and family). They can acquire social anxiety or depression from the lack of daily socialization. Some people become very unproductive and only care about their game. It's like the video game takes over people's lives. I found articles, books, and reports relating to my topic that each gave me more information on the topic. All of them included facts backing up their ideas and many stated the same ideas. I found these sources by using a database, that way I knew they were reliable. The most useful sources were the books. They provides the most information while staying unbiased. These sources make me think about ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Luckily enough while on deployment I came across a class call Introduction to Writing. Writing 101 help me familiarize myself with the basic grammar and mechanics in college writing, this was an opportunity that many military personnel are unfortunate to receive due to being deployed, where most service members have to interact with their teacher via the internet. I have the chance of being placed in a hybrid class; this afforded me the opportunity to interact with both the students and teacher on a weekly basis and give me a synopsis of what college life is like when I transition to becoming a full–time studen t. • 19. Television in Society Synthesis Essay Television, a widely accepted form of media and communication, has spread into the political world with an amazing speed. There are both useful and detrimental aspects to this newfound relationship between television and politics. Sources A and E describe the more useful aspects of television within the political sphere, whereas Sources B and C portray the contrastingly detrimental aspects. Television has become useful in keeping the public informed as to public issues, political rivalries and of course, the political elections. "One of the great contributions expected of television lay in its presumed capacity to inform and stimulate the political interests of the American electorate," (Source A), suggests the increased communication between the public and their political system. Citizens are able to receive a quick, presumably reliable source of information they otherwise would usually receive later, with less details, and second–hand. The televised events create "a new, immediate contact with political events" (Source A), which is important as technology allows for greater global and national communication. Additionally, Source E portrays the importance of public opinion and the sway of television over political leaders for significant events. The significance of television in conjunction with the political leaders themselves are exemplified by the fact that "if Walter Cronkite thought that the war was hopeless, the American people would think so ... How far do the sources you have used support this interpretation of evacuation in World War Two? (25 marks) Before the War in September 1939, the government understood the risk of air raids and the danger they bring upon major cities in England. Plans for evacuation started as early as 15 years before in 1924; the Air Raid Precaution Committee (ARPC) identified London as the main target, with children as the biggest concern. The government identified, after the ARPC produced a report on the potential disasters of air raid attacks in 1925, that maintaining civilian morale was a priority, and that the fear of bombing would bring it down. So, to prevent low morale (and also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To further justify evacuation and therefore show its success in keeping evacuees safe, source six shows casualties in Liverpool. It shows that the death rate was generally over 100 and even in May 1941, at 1453. Again, this justifies the need to evacuate and the safety achieved through evacuation. Finally, sources three shows the success in evacuation as the sources show effectiveness and good organisation as a success of evacuation. This encompasses overall efficiency and pre–evacuation planning. To be able to transport the huge amount of 1million (intended 4million) to the countryside required this efficiency and overall, sources three and source two mention the efficiency and order of the transport (trains) and organisation in the countryside. In source three, a newspaper article from Kent, says that the departures were efficient, reflecting that it was seen to that 'each child got milk and food', and followed up with 'no confusion'. Even source two, though showing evacuation in a negative way, also comments that the trains 'ran to time' and that evacuation came 'complete with teachers'. Having teachers is shown in sources one, three and four as well. In source one, it is shown as a teacher with a group of children, in three there are mentioned 'teachers in charge' and in four, the graph shows about 103,000 teachers were evacuated. One thing that I noticed that was really strange about both articles were how similar the title and the start of the articles were to each other. The titles are almost the exact same the word choice is used a little differently but very similar. As for the start of each article they both start off with the exact same line with "President Trump said Tuesday that "all options are on the table". The washington post provided a picture of trump right at the top of the article as well as a video of trump talking about the event and a video of the missile being launched by north korea. Where Fox only provided one video of just 2 males talking about the event. All of these are very different from each other and both are setting different tones and giving setting a bias tone in my opinion. Essay on Working Conditions of Children in Textile Mills Working Conditions of Children in Textile Mills After thorough investigation into 5 sources referring to the working conditions for children in factories during the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, we now have the opportunity to bind all the facts together and create a detailed account. However, there are still questions over the reliability of some of the sources, so further research and comparisons with other mills need to be made. We are also told that, "...everyone well paid, comfortable...", "...fine machinery..." and "...excellent lunch..." which makes us wonder whether Samuel Greg is only showing the good points. Frederick Engles thinks that it was in–fact a staged visit and that all the bad conditions were kept hidden. He suggests that Greg's' factory was a 'mockery'. Engle's uses a sarcastic tone for this source, which backfired as there are some positive comments. Finally, the source is very generalised, which suggests it may have been a hypothetical visit, meaning Engles could be saying what 'could' happen? The second source referred to child labour at Quarry Bank Mill in 1833. My source is an extract from an interview between the superintendents who looked after Greg's apprentices at Quarry Bank Mill (George and Elizabeth Shawcross) and a government official checking on how apprentice children were treated. To begin with, this source took a more critical examination at the Lincoln–Douglas race from the perspective of the complex political situation that was inherent during this time. That is to say, the campaigns that were waged were not merely about how viable each candidate was for office, but rather the philosophical differences between these individuals and many others, according to the source. Summary of the research question and outcome My guiding question for the research project was, "Does the use of technology to entertain children help or hinder their social development?" My interest in this topic was triggered by the previous research project that was carried out in year 10. That project had a lot to do with human health and the factors that affect that, so I decided to explore that in further depth using a different topic. Technology is becoming an increasingly more central aspect of people's lives and hence it is an issue in society. I wanted to explore this topic and gain knowledge, which could then be used to share with others who are concerned about the problem. My research was carried out mostly through secondary sources from the Internet and a primary source, which was an observation. The key findings from my research were gathered and presented in the form of a report. In the report it was substantiated that my research question wasn't fully answered, and the effect tablets/smartphones has on brain development were the main findings. Tablets/smartphones have a significant impact on children's health and can lead to many physical, psychological and behaviour disorders. I feel like my knowledge and ability to navigate the writing techniques of my major have improved and my in– text citations skills have improved greatly. Overall this course opened my eyes to the many different styles there are in the field of Communications, which is my intended field of study, and how to use these styles correctly and efficiently. • 41. Life On Earth Is Dependent On The Functions Of Light As A... Life on earth is dependent on the functions of light as a source of energy that has a direct or indirect effect on the sustainability of all organisms. Light is defined as a portion of the electromagnetic spectrum detected by human eyes (Wilson, Nivillac, & Sheng, 2016, p.4); light as it passes through a space, acts like waves and is composed of photon, containing a stream of energy particles. Light must be absorbed by an organism to utilize it as a source of energy, however; absorption occurs when photon's energy is transmitted to an electron, matches with the energy needed to elevate the electron from a ground state to an explicit excited state within a molecule. Energy from the sun as a light source enters the biosphere by the process of photosynthesis, through which the energy of light is used to convert carbon dioxide into organic compounds. The balanced chemical equation for the overall process of photosynthesis is: 6CO₂ + 12H₂O → C₆H₁₂O₆ + 6O₂+ 6H₂O (Wilson, Nivillac, & Sheng, 2016, p.145) Photosynthesis occurs in two different processes: the light reaction and the Calvin cycle. This lab focuses on the light reaction stage of photosynthesis in which the light energy is captured by pigment molecules and utilize energy to synthesize NADPH and ATP, resulting in the production of oxygen (O₂) (Wilson, Nivillac, & Sheng, 2016, p.146). In the second study, a group of men and women are asked to distinguish between quotes from the magazines and rapists, as well as rank them on how derogatory they were. Individuals such as university or high school students are, at one point or another in their studies, faced with the task of having to write a technical report that involves a research (specifically focused on existing material). There is an abundance of information available in the world today, which covers a vast amount of fields and all this information is readily available to the public but it is often unclear to these students that all the information available may not always be credible and actually reliable or even true. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout extraction, the desired data is identified and extracted from the source system and is made available for additional processing. The data can be extracted from numerous different sources. In most cases, the data sources are internal however sometimes they are external. The ultimate aim is to retrieve all the essential data from the source system with as little resources as possible. The size of the data extracted can range from kilobytes to gigabytes. For extraction within the ETL to be positive and effective, it is essential that there is a high understanding of the data's layout. The data should also be backed up in another location. Sometimes, it isn't possible to identify the exact subsection of interest, as a result a larger amount of data than needed has to be extracted. Consequently, the identification part of extract is carried out further down the line within the ETL process. Depending on the competence of the system, transformations can take place during the extraction stage of ETL. The difficulty of the extraction step is dependent on how alike or unalike the source systems are and the type of source data. Good documentation along with excellent maintenance and the use of similar technology within a system should result in fairly simple extraction process. On the other hand, poor documentation and incompetent maintenance using different formats of data and technologies will result in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Allport published many books including The Nature of Prejudice (1954). The purpose of the article is to inform the audience that in–groups are everywhere and identity is based on our in–groups. This essay is an excerpt from the book The Nature of Prejudice in 1954 and is a credible source because the principles Allport discussed are still studied by psychologists and researchers today. This article "One and Done" is an excerpt from her book "One and Only" and the reviews of this book come from extremely credible sources such as the New York Times, therefore establishing her credibility. The author's purpose for writing this piece is to argue that having one child is not "detrimental" to the child psychologically, and only–children are not different than kids with siblings. This piece was written July 7, 2010 so the research and studies are very up to date. The main points of this article started out with the argument of why Sandler herself decided to have one child, and this is based on how "the economy is sluggish... and raising kids cost a bundle. She describes the effects of the recession on the number of children women bear, and points out that women are having less and less children because of their high costs. Sandler then goes on to discuss why people urge families to have more than one child, and she uses personal experience of a cashier in a store to exemplify the pressure of having more kids. Sandler investigates why there is such an aversion to have only one child, "single children are perceived as spoiled, selfish, solitary misfits," because this is such a believable stereotype, parents are pressured to have multiple children because they "don't want to do that to their child." Sandler uses the study by Granville Stanley Hall to act as a counterargument ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 61. Black Friday Essay How far do sources 11 & 12 challenge the view presented in source 10 about the conduct of the police on Black Friday? The three sources to be compared are all in relation to the events that occurred on "Black Friday", particularly surrounding the conduct of the metropolitan police. Source 10, taken from "The Times" newspaper presents the view that the police were more victims of the women and raiders that they were trying to control, and that it took some effort to restrain the women that were protesting on that day. Whereas source 11, taken from a memorandum that was sent to the home office after 'Black Friday" gives the view that the police were acting violently towards the women protesting and that the women in this situation were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Source 11 on the other hand disagrees with the view presented in source source 10. It is an extract from a memorandum by the Parliamentary Conciliation Committee for Women's Suffrage send to the Home Office after "Black Friday". It agrees with the source ten in the sense that it admits a "relentless struggle" occurred between the police and the suffragettes, but it disagrees with source 10 because it presents the view that it was the police acting violently towards the women, who it says were "flung hither and thither amid moving traffic, and into the hands of a crows which was sometimes rough and indecent". This opinion is presented because the purpose of the memorandum sent to the home office was to request a public inquiry into the conduct of the police on "Black Friday", because they did not follow their "usual course of action" which "would have been to arrest the women on a charge of obstruction" but they "had been instructed to avoid, as far as possible, making any arrests" which is why, the women argue that the police were so violent. If individuals want to create relations with one another, they need to be able to understand each other. They also need to take the initiative to figure out others, and be able to communicate and connect with each other. However, the only way that you can understand others is if you relate with one another, in order to build relations and be comfortable around each other. In order for you to be able to connect with other people and have relations with others people, we need to leave our comfort zone and relate to other people. Whether it be learning a new language or moving to a new place, just like the individuals in the second source and third source were able to do. In the story of "In the Skin of a Lion," the main character is Patrick who lived amongst other immigrants and did not recognize their language and culture because he kept to himself. However, when he took the initiative to learn the Macedonian word for Iguana he was able to communicate with others at the fruit stall, and in the future he was able to be close to some new people he didn't even know existed. This source shows how if you take action upon your desires to make relations you will infact be able to make new friends, just like Patrick was able to make new relations with the people around him. Summary To investigate cableways and design an efficient vertical transportation system for goods, in the hilltop communities of Nepal. My research established an understanding of existing cableway technology and explored a practical engineering improvement for adaptation in developing countries. I identified that engineering, a topic of personal interest, should be the field of research considered. A discussion with university students was completed to find a specific issue that I could investigate. One topic suggested for investigation from the EngineersWithoutBorders Challenge, inspired the research question. The outcome format, a report, discussed my key findings and recommendations including; the nature of cableways, influence of local topography, and constraints of existing technology. The majority of my secondary sources were reports written by academics or aid organisations, found on the web. Emailed questionnaires and personal interviews provided critical information and practical critique of the design outcome. Analysis of findings combined with creative thinking enabled a resolution of the research question. This was presented in the form of a proposed design at the conclusion of the outcome report. Evaluation Evaluation of Research Processes Interviews Primary information was obtained by conducting interviews. I underestimated how effective this process would be until I conducted one. Discussing my project with an experienced manufacturer gave practical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 67. Evacuation was a Great Success Essay Evacuation was a Great Success There are many factors, which contribute to whether or not evacuation was a success. One major factor is the number of lives that were saved due to evacuation. We now know that if evacuation had not taken place, a lot more people would have been killed in the Blitz (only were actually killed). However, we also know that there were cases of abuse ('I had bruises from my neck right down to my ankles on both sides and on my left hip all my clothes were stuck to my hip where it was bleeding' John Abbot) and children being used for slave labour etc because the host families were not checked, and this is obviously a major failure. Evacuation was intended to save ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sources D and H deal with the stereotyping of evacuees. 'A traditional picture of evacuees emerged which suggested that all were infested with lice and disease, had atrocious manners, constantly wet the bed and were likely to commit any number of crimes.'(The Evacuation – The True Story, Martin Parsons and Penny Starns). The government had to try to change this image of evacuees to continue people volunteering to take in evacuees and to stop parents worrying about their children. There was already a shortage of host families (source H), so they needed to convince people that evacuees were not as bad as people said they were. There were also parents who were reluctant to allow their children to be evacuated (source I). Therefore, the government had to produce propaganda that would please both parties. Both sources D and H would probably be convincing to both parties because they both show the evacuees smiling and they both try to correct the rumours about evacuees (i.e. that they were dirty and impolite). Sources B, D and H are useful for showing what the government was showing people to persuade them to evacuate their children, and allow evacuees into their homes, in the early stages of the war. The government wanted to save the lives of British civilians, and they achieved this. From this point of view, evacuation was a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 69. The Importance Of A Steady Source Of Light For thousands of years, man had used the sun as the main source of light during the day and fire by night. Light progressed from crude shells filled with moss or animal fat to pottery vessels filled with whale oil2. In 1802, Humphry David placed two wires from a battery to a piece of carbon and created the first electric light. While it did not produce light for very long and was too bright for everyday use, it gave hope to inventors everywhere who believed that a steady source of light could be created3. It was not until almost seventy years and countless hours of research later, that the modern electric light came into existence. This discovery literally changed the world. Thomas Edison recognized the importance of a steady source of light and is credited with the first of several patents on a bulb that used a carbonized bamboo filament. But perhaps his most important contribution was to recognize the future of the light bulb and he went on to invent a method of transporting electric current and tracking electric usage. Other inventors took the light bulb to its next level with the invention of the tungsten filament and how to use an inert gas like nitrogen inside the bulb to increase efficiency4. The first light bulb was called an incandescent bulb. This light bulb was originally produced by hand, but now the manufacturing process is entirely automated and light bulbs are produced in a machine that can produce more than 50,000 bulbs per hour5. The Worst Miracle Drug For Gastrointestinal Patients The Worst Miracle Drug Scientists from the Netherlands, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Italy studied Ibuprofen, which originated as an anti– acidic drug for gastrointestinal patients. The purpose of the study was to assess the "safety of non–inflammatory drugs " to treat cardiovascular disease (BMJ 2016, pg.1). Accordingly, of this study 's 10 million participants, 92% had cardiovascular disease caused by painkillers, and those who stopped using Ibuprofen reduced risk of worsening cardiovascular condition. Various age ranges received different treatments. For minors, physicians lowered doses as a precautionary measure. By contrast, long term users above age seventy–seven who were prescribed higher doses showed an increased risk of heart attack. Various ages, races, and sexes were tested to generalize results. Hospitalization occurred in 95% of frequent ibuprofen users. Long–term usage showed destruction of the gastrointestinal tract. Ibuprofen was later found to lead to stomach ulcers. The label clearly explains to consumers to consult a GI doctor before consumption. Ibuprofen deprives the heart of oxygen–enriched blood, which may result in heart failure. By Michael Specter Richa Shah Professor Derks Rhetoric and Comp 1 16 December 2015 Don't Believe In Everything You See All over the world and as far as many people can remember, fingerprints have been used as a symbol of truth and justice in the forensics domain. The art of fingerprinting has been seen as a closure to many major crimes that have put many people in prison. However, in his article "Do Fingerprints Lie?" Michael Specter examines that fingerprinting has given rise to many questions as of the late 20th century. Fingerprints have been taken for granted, almost like money, which in this century, people believe is the best item to be handed to us. People tend to take what they hear, and just go with it without research or background knowledge. This practice has not been challenged as many concepts should. Specter brings in a solid argument with a lot of knowledge to support his claims and factual evidence to set his article with high credibility. While Specter builds a strong argument, he fails to consider how fingerprints have improved the forensic process. The article "Do Fingerprints Lie?" is a critical analysis on the negative usage of fingerprints. Specter is going against the idea that fingerprints are always the best way to figure out if someone is guilty He starts of by talking about a jury case where Shirley Mckie is falsely accused of perjury. Mckie's fingerprint was found at a scene of a crime of a murder and her fingerprint was analyzed to match that of the actual ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In today's world, news can be very shady, and most of the time makes an attempt to sway a person's political standings. Although Buzzfeed can be a good source of news and entertainment simultaneously, it's not always reliable, biased, and can provide faulty information based on hastiness to attract the younger audience. They twist things into points that go hand in hand with their assumptions. If they truly wanted to inform the public without bias they would've validated their sources and info to further emphasize their point. Still, they went ahead and published without validation and gave Trump a poor representation. Goal accomplished, right?
