The Disciplinary Dilemma Of Tourism Studies
Summary of the Disciplinary Dilemma of Tourism Studies
Introduction
The study of the tourism phenomenon is a relatively recent addition in academic to achieve a goal. Five main academic disciplines in tourism research
have been identified by Jafari and Ritchie (1981) which are economics, sociology, psychology, geography, and anthropology. A survey that conducted
by Sheldon from North American tourism and hospitality researchers showed that journal from wide variety of disciplines were published and
referenced included economics, business studies, marketing, psychology, anthropology, and geography. Despite the diversity of disciplines impacting
on tourism studies, Pearce (1993) suggests that a greater tolerance for eclectic and diverse approaches to investigated the pre–paradigmatic study areas,
such as tourism.
The Disciplinary Dilemma
There is numerous discussions between tourism ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These scholars seem doubtful that a distinct discipline of tourism, such as tourismology, can or should be developed. According to Jafari (1990),
tourism education and research should remain within existing disciplines, however, he also suggest that to developed a crossdisciplinary
"knowledge–based platform" based on a scientific foundation by the tourism scholars.
The argument about the development of disciplinary in tourism study is unlikely to be determined in the near future. Tthe evolution of tourism studies
as a distinct discipline will facing significant challenges. So, these challenges may be provided by first examining the intradisciplinary conflicts
prevalent within each of the diverse disciplines were currently educated in tourism studies and then moving on to explore the interdisciplinary issues

Disciplinary action refers to the actions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Prevention is best done by making company standards known and understood in advance. The basic objectives however is to encourage employee self
discipline. In this way the employees maintain their own discipline rather than have management impose it. Employees are more likely to support
standards that they have helped create. They also will give more support to standards that are stated positively instead of negatively, and when they
have been told the reasons behind a standard so that it will make sense to them.
Corrective discipline:
Corrective discipline is action that follows infraction of a rule; it seeks to discourage further infractions so that future act will be in compliance with
standards. Typically the corrective action is a penalty of some type and is called a disciplinary action. Examples are a warning or suspension with or
without pay.
POLICIES OF DISCIPLINARY ACTION
In any social system, irrespective of its nature, it is important for the participant to determine a set of rules that will regulate the conduct of its members
and should be observed in order to function successfully.
Similarly so it is important in the workplace to determine a set of policies to regulate the relationship between the employees and the employer in the
form of a disciplinary procedure.
The code is based on the following principles:–
The right of management to take appropriate disciplinary steps against any worker, who acts in a manner

The Roles Of Multi Disciplinary Working
The significance of multi–disciplinary working has enabled different professionals from inter–agencies to collaborate with children and families. This
essay will discuss the partnership between agencies with regards to the scenario given for this course; looking at present legislations and policies the
government has implemented for the functioning of multi–disciplinary. I will analyse the scenario on Craig, who is in year 5 and has been identified as
having special educational needs by his school. Moreover this essay will also cover the advantages of Multi–disciplinary working as well as the
challenges and barriers imposed on professionals working in health, social services and education. Another scope of this essay will consider the roles,
responsibilities and relationships of different professionals who might be involved with the family in relation to the Every Child Matters Outcomes and
integrated working.
Throughout this essay there will be a variety of terminology used in equivalent to multi–disciplinary working, Reed and Canning (2009) has introduced
interchanging terms associated with multi–disciplinary, which have been defined below:
Partnership working: A group of professionals working together which requires agencies assistances to deliver services to local children and families
(Douglas 2008).
Integrated working: More than one agencies working alongside each other, using their own professionals to help overcome a range of difficulties

Questions On Increasing Disciplinary Reading
1.Increasing Disciplinary Reading Biancarosa (2012) states in the introduction to this section that as students progress up through the grades their
reading in content–area courses becomes progressively more distinct (p. 47). A student in a fourth grade science course will encounter different
terminology in a fourth grade social studies course and even more diverse terminology by the time they reach high school biology. However, I have
often found, and Biancarosa (2012) as acknowledges that many schools do not focus on reading instruction across content areas. Biancarosa elaborates,
"too often, schools do not explicitly teach students how the reasoning processes, strategies, and rules for achieving comprehension vary across the
content areas" (p. 47). In order to develop adolescents' literacy skills we need to increase their interaction with diverse disciplinary texts. Looking at
this from the higher education lens, once a student moves from the college–prep classroom to the collegiate environment they will be required to
demonstrate comprehension and research skills in their specialized field of study. The best measure that teachers in the K–12 arena can do to assist
them for this transition is to increase their interaction with these texts during the duration of their elementary and secondary school years.
2.Help Students Achieve Proficiency in Digital Reading This was rather a common sense recommendation given how much technology and digital
reading students are

Disciplinary Action Paper
CPA Disciplinary Action In January of 1988 the AICPA introduced the Integrity and Objectivity Rule number 102. The rule states that a member shall
maintain objectivity and integrity, shall be free of conflicts of interest, and shall not knowingly misrepresent the facts or subordinate his or her
judgment to others (AICPA). Rule number 102 has three separate violation interpretations. The first interpretation of rule 102 states that a member that
makes, permits, or directs another to make materially false and misleading entries in financial statements is a violation. A second interpretation of the
rule states that if a member fails to correct an entity's financial statements or records that are materially false and misleading when he or... Show more

Mr. McDonald failed to document seven separate important factors that should have been included in the audit. He also did not obtain sufficient

1. I would have a private conversation with Jean and remind her how her tardiness affects her performance. I would tell her that tardiness is not
acceptable by the company, and she is aware of it because she has received verbal and written warnings. I would remind her that continuing this
behavior will jeopardize her job.
2. Since Jean has received oral and written warnings, the next step will be a one–day suspension. This period gives her a time to think that how she
wants to correct her behavior.

Since the HIM department has a policy of no personal calls, I would give Pam a written warning. I would explain to her that I understand that she is
going through hardship, but I have to stick to the policy to be fair to other employees and prevent other employees from doing the same.
Disciplinary Situation 5
Cindy and Barbara were told that if they repeat their behavior one more time, they will be suspended for three days. Since this is the second time that
Cindy and Barbara have an argument that disturbs the department, they should be suspended. The supervisor should remind them that he or she is
lenient on them because they should be discharged for fighting at work. Being suspended, gives them a chance to think about the consequence of their
behavior and how close they would get in losing their job if they repeat their fight one more time.

Disciplinary Perspectives
"Do not go gentle into that good night, / Old age should burn and rave at close of day; / Rage, rage against the dying of the light" (Thomas, 1951).
These words spoke volumes when I first heard them in the motion picture, Interstellar. It can be interpreted in several different ways, however, to me, it
simply means don't give up. Don't stop learning; don't stop working. Rage against the obstacles, unfortunate circumstances, and the end of each day.
Each day brings opportunities to accomplish something new or to progress on any tasks, projects, or goals. I try to keep this state of mind as I continue

The year was 1998. Three enormous cow patterned boxes showed up on our doorstep. Inside, was my very own Gateway desktop computer. Well,
technically it was family owned. However, at the age of eight, I took the initiative to learn all I could about that computer. My current technical
knowledge all stems from receiving that first computer. I would spend hours on end playing on that computer. It came with a binder of software
CDs, including typing, algebra, art, and encyclopedias, which I learned how to install, configure, and function. Of course, like any computer
connected to the Internet, it was prone to infection by viruses. I wish I would have known then what I know now. I would have saved myself so
much time and angst. However, those issues and other problems that come along with owning a computer helped me become who I am today. I taught
myself how to troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve operating systems, software, and hardware issues by conducting Internet research and by trial and
error. Many computers were broken along the way, but I learned from my mistakes. This was my first experience with Self–Directing learning, without
realizing it at the time. "Self–directed learning describes a process by which individuals take the initiative, with our without the assistance of others

Pre-Disciplinary Communication Reflection
On August 31, 2017 I spoke with Officer Burns via telephone in regards to his pending discipline and some concerns that had been brought to my
attention by fellow officers and supervisors. The first portion of the conversation centered on his pending discipline and determining a date that would
be acceptable for him to attend a pre–disciplinary hearing with Captain Berger to discuss the alleged violations. During this conversation I explained
the severity of the violations and that based upon the number of violations within the past twelve months he will subject to the progressive discipline
policy.
It was stressed to Officer Burns that he could also be subject to termination in the future if his performance did not improve and he committed another
violation. Officer Burns acknowledged that he understood the severity of the violations and acknowledged that he was aware of the progressive
discipline policy of the city. After discussing the policy violations and determining an acceptable date for the pre–disciplinary hearing, I segued to the
topic of the performance concerns that were brought to my attention.
The first instance I spoke with Officer Burns about was the concerns that were brought up by Sgt. Adam Smotrich. Sgt. Smotrich detailed in a
message to me that while on a call with Officer Burns involving an individual experiencing an emotional crisis and wielding a metal pipe, he became
increasingly concerned that Officer Burns would be unable to defend himself. The reason for this concern was based upon the perceived physical
limitations demonstrated by Officer Burns on the call. Sgt. Smotrich noted a noticeable limp and lack of ability to move laterally or backwards in a
reasonably quick manner.
This caused Sgt. Smotrich concern because he did not want Officer Burns to fall and be unable to defend himself if the subject advanced quickly
while wielding a pipe. Sgt. Smotrich indicated he felt that Officer Burns would have been unable to adequately defend himself or assist him if he
needed it. Sgt. Smotrich also noticed that after Officer Burns handcuffed the subject who was on the ground in a prone position, he labored to
successfully get up without assistance. Sgt. Smotrich felt it

Is Bioinformatics A Multi Disciplinary Field?
Bioinformatics is a multi–disciplinary field which involves health information technology to improve the efficacy of health care by incorporating better
quality, efficient and new technologies. Health informatics is an amalgamation of various disciplines like information science, computer science, social
science, management science, behavioral science and others. There are various sub categories in health informatics like the "clinical informatics,
pathological informatics, pharmacy informatics, public health informatics, community health informatics, home health informatics, nursing informatics,
medical informatics, consumer health informatics, and clinical bio informatics" [1]. In the last 40 years, bioinformatics field has grown beyond ... Show

These paper based system were inefficient for managing large databases thereby affecting the health care of the patients. These conventional methods
were not only unorganized but also sometimes illegible [4, 13], making it harder for the physicians to locate the information of the patients [5, 13].
Most of the time, patients had to retake the tests causing delay in medical examination and increase in cost. In the recent past, with the advent of
bioinformatics, storage of medical records is becoming computerized and thereby improving healthcare.
The bioinformatics has turned out to be a blessing in disguise for physicians in the field of decision making. It has been observed, majority of the
delay in medical decision is due to lack of information. Every year thousands of researches are conducted all around the world and it is impossible
for physicians to keep a track about the information obtained from the results of clinical trials and other studies. The information obtained from these
clinical results can be used as reference by the physicians in their medical decisions. The lack of information causes delay and thereby affecting
patient healthcare. Bioinformatics help in keeping updated records of the results obtained from the researches. For example, MEDLINE is a database
which contains 460,000 references of the information obtained from the conducted clinical trials and other studies. It is updated every year [6, 13].

RCMS Suport Requirement of University of Southern California
University of Southern California (USC) established a system which provided some central resources to accommodate and support the requirements of
the whole university. It was called RCMS. According to the university research committee report, RCM identified as an effective system. However, the
committee stated that some modifications are required due to shortfalls of the system named as "perverse incentives", including discouragement of
innovations, raising the barriers on multidisciplinary researches, encouragement of multiplication of courses and encouragement of manipulation of the
financial data.
Discouragement of innovations was the main concern of the critics. The financial pressure imposed on deans was forcing them to be concern about the
financial aspects of their decisions rather than focusing on main mission as leaders of an academic institution. This critique could be validated because
the main objective of each academic organization is encouraging and expanding the new ideas which might not be profitable in the short term. However,
neglecting these ideas will threaten the university's long term profit.
Raising the barriers on multidisciplinary research is the next concern. These types of researches require different perspectives, skills and expertise,
which could only be acquired by a team work of a group of researchers from different faculties. The multidisciplinary barriers were high even before
implementation of RCM. Therefore, blaming RCM as a barrier seems

Grievance and disciplinary
Critically explain the key skills required to prepare, conduct and conclude grievance and disciplinary cases effectively (40%)
Discipline and grievance are often put together, however, 'most organisations try to keep discipline and grievance apart, therefore to distinguish the idea
that there are a number of conceptual and practical differences between discipline and grievance' (Dundon and Rollinson, 2011).
Discipline is defined as 'some action taken against an individual who fails to conform to the rules of an organisation of which he or she is a member',
(Wheeler, 1976, as cited by Dundon and Rollinson, 2011).
The grievance procedure can be defined in many ways, the International Labour Organisation defines grievance as follows, ... Show more content on

When preparing for a grievance meeting, managers should arrange a meeting in private, consider having someone that is not involved in the case to
take notes, consider any special requirements for the employee if they have difficulty conversing in English, or is perhaps disabled and consider
whether to offer independent mediation.
When conducting the grievance meeting, managers are expected to make introductions as necessary, give the employee an opportunity to restate their
grievance and how they wish for it to be solved, put care and thought into resolving the grievance, consider adjourning the meeting if it is necessary to
investigate any new facts which arise and sum up the main points from the meeting (ACAS, 2015). When concluding the meeting, it is important for
the manager to keep the employee in the know by informing them on when they can expect a response if one cannot be made immediately (ACAS,
2015).
Disciplinary procedures follow a similar process to grievance procedures although they are not exactly the same. For example, employers should talk
to the employee in private if they feel the employee is not performing to expected standards. The discussion should be encouraging performance and
any criticism should most definitely be constructive in order to keep the rapport intact. The manager should make it clear to the

Disciplinary Intervention Essay
For the last 19 years I have taught in many different grade levels, different curriculum and many different types of students. The one thing that was
always the same was the importance of having good classroom management with every class that I have taught. The most common cause of student
misbehavior would be students who do not engage in their classroom work and feel as if it is too hard for them. Some disengage so they will not
have to fail and others just do not make it a personal challenge to create success for themselves because they do not believe in themselves. This causes
them to be disengaged which in turn creates students to misbehave. When students misbehave, the type of teacher response that is most effective is the

If these rules are not followed they will receive the consequences that are listed below.
Action Steps for Teacher and target dates:
*Disciplinary interventions will be used from the beginning of the school year to the end of each year. Students will be reminded of the classroom
rules after minor issues. Below is a list of interventions that will be used if there are harsh behaviors that need to be dealt with.
*If a student is being a distraction to the class and cannot be redirected the first time then they will be asked to stay with me during recess to discuss
their behavior and create steps they can take to better this behavior.
*If it happens again, then they will meet with the teacher and fill out a behavior form that will need to go home. Parents and student will need to bring
the form back signed.
*After the 3rd offense, Students will fill out the form that will be sent home and a consequence will be attached to the action.
*If the behavior keeps happening then the student will be sent to the principal's office to discuss the behavior and we will set up a meeting with the
parents to work on a behavior plan that will help the

Interdispinarity And Transdisciplinarity
The ideas of interdisciplinarity and transdisciplinarity have been widely applied to the relationship between sciences. This article is an attempt to
discuss the reasons why scien– tific interdisciplinarity and transdisciplinarity pose specific problems. First of all, certain questions about terminology
are taken into account in order to clarify the meaning of the word 'discipline' and its cognates. Secondly, we argue that the specificity of sciences does
not lie in becoming disciplines. Then, we focus on the relationship between sciences, and between sciences and technologies: we argue that
multidisciplinarity and interdisciplinar– ity are a common practice among strict sciences and technologies. Finally, we discuss the different meanings...

An edu– cational institution can create all disciplines it considers useful to teach, but you cannot create a strict science wherever you want, because
strict sciences compromise the reality itself. Scientific theorems, such as Pythagoras's theorem, biological evol– ution, or atomic theory, do not
compromise reality because they 'represent it ade– quately' but 'because there are certain parts of reality itself which are incorporated into the
constituent chains of scientific body' (Bueno 1992, 900). Reality should be regarded as a process in fieri, which is dependent, in many of its parts, on
the structure of scientific truths. We can speak about a kind of 'hyper–reality': it is an 'extended reality' that takes into account not only what appears
directly to our senses (appear– ances, phenomena) but also everything that determines other things, that works and that exists, but it is not directly
perceived, as electromagnetic waves, atomic structures, geometric relations, or evolutionary processes. So the most characteristic feature of science is
its function to constitute certain important parts of this hyper–reality. Science builds a hyper–reality as it expands progressively. If so, science does

In the article Teaching Disciplinary Literacy to Adolescents: Rethinking Content–Area Literacy written by Timothy and Cynthia Shanahan, they argue
that "disciplinary literacy" should be the focus of middle and secondary school settings. The purpose of the study is to reveal how content experts and
secondary content teachers read disciplinary texts, make use of comprehension strategies, and teach those strategies to adolescent readers. However, in
different content areas different comprehension strategies work for the adolescents. In my particular content area, which is Health and Physical

Multi Disciplinary Team in Healthcare Essay
Multi–Disciplinary Teams.
Whilst on placement on an adult rehabilitation ward, I had the opportunity to work in partnership with a multi–disciplinary team and attended a

expertise, different value systems and different organizational hierarchies" of the various areas of knowledge. Whilst on this placement, I have worked

Each patient was discussed in turn. Each member of the team gave their input and perspectives about the patients. The progress of each patient was
discussed by the different members of the team, such as the status of the patient, questioning the success of treatments, results of investigations or the
need of, and so on. The discussion would result in a conclusion, such as is a case conference required, is the patient ready for discharge, if so plans
are made, and does the patient need to be referred to a social worker, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, Rehabilitation Day Unit and so on. Another
benefit of a multi–disciplinary team is a greater commitment to the care plan. Ownership of decisions is better when people have participated in the
choice of treatment. Also, a multi–disciplinary team can offer support and encouragement to each other in an environment that can often be stressful
and pressurized (Gorman, 1998). An example of support in the stressful environment of the rehabilitation ward presented whilst I was working with the
team. On two separate occasions, I was unfortunate to be present when two patients' died. They were most unpleasant, however, the support of the
clinical fellows and nurses was invaluable to me to help me carry on with my duties and get through what were distressing times. A vital component of
an effective multi–disciplinary team is communication, that is to say, sharing understandings and expertise, listening

Internet : A Multi Disciplinary Perspective
Introduction:
Today's world is of inter–connectivity. People and organizations are inter–connected to each other via internet. Organizations are moving their
businesses to internet by exploiting the internet resources made available to them through internet. The internet has revolutionized the means of
business communication. Therefore, organizations are extensively moving their data to internet to make it available to others for business purposes.
Internet provides the required resources like memory, storage for executing business operations. Along with lots of benefits and business opportunities,
internet introduces you with the complex and system expanded new vulnerabilities that puts security risks to organizations. These vulnerabilities are
both technical and managerial. The increasing rate of cyber–crime in the world of internet has provoked the think tanks to consider it as a crucial and
important aspect of secure software development (Dhillon, G., & Backhouse, J. 2001).
A minor difference while considering the development of a secure software is that it should be considered from a multi–disciplinary perspective.
Traditional software development does not consider human as the major component of software development. Whereas, for developing an information
secure system, human are considered as an integral part of it.
Statement of purpose:
As a minor effort to both technical and managerial aspects of software vulnerabilities that can be exploited by the users, we

Disciplinary Actions through the Board of Nursing
The Board of Nursing (BON), is the main law of the nursing profession. They regulate all the licenses for current practicing nurses. There are many
checks and balances along the way to ensure nurses are safe and competent to practice in the medical field. The BON sets all the rules and regulations
that each nurse must abide by, failure to comply can put a nurses license at risk. It is essential that all nurses stay up to date with current practices and
maintain proper insurance to protect ones license.
Nurses and the Board of Nursing
The Board of Nursing's job is to protect the public not the nurse. Each state has its own BON, with its own rules and regulation of that state. Not all
states practice under the same rules, that is why it is essential for nurses do their research in the state they are practicing in. Nurses take on many roles

The Importance Of Disciplinary Actions In Schools
School is a compulsory institution for many children who lie within the first world country bracket. However, excessive use of disciplinary actions
like expulsion and suspension have been a major concern over the past decade in schools and juvenile facilities. The issue in regards to disciplinary
action within these systems is the misuse of punishment against adolescents and the course of action taken within disciplinary process'. Therefore
excessive use of punishment to an extent can then become ineffective, high expulsion rates have shown to be driven by ineffective school policies (IU
Bloomington Newsroom, 2017). Is it ethical to expel and suspend students when there are alternative precautions? Is it ethical to allow punitive
punishments to occur as a means with dealing with troubled students? A study including twenty–three experts specialising in social science, education
and legal studies have commented on the nature of this situation, "Far from making our schools safer or improving student behavior, the steadily
increasing use of suspension and expulsion puts students –– especially students of color and other targeted groups –– at an increased risk of academic
disengagement, dropout and contact with juvenile justice" stated from a professor in the school of psychology program (Skiba, 2017). This statement

A Multi Disciplinary Team
Introduction
In 2011 there have been 49,900 women and 350 men that have been diagnosed with breast cancer within the United Kingdom (Cancer Research UK
2014). Individuals who are undergoing investigation for suspected breast disease can be referred for breast care services with symptoms or are
recalled from the breast screening programme. The National Health Service Breast Screening Programme (NHSBSP) was introduced in 1988 which
was due to the proposition of the Forrest Report that had been published two years prior (1986).
This essay will attempt to discuss the theoretical principals of population screening as well as the importance of diagnostic breast care services, with
the influence of a multi–disciplinary team.

The age range 50–69 is where mortality rate reduction was seen at its greatest. The main evidence used in favour for breast screening and Forrest
report came from the studies and randomised control trials conducted in Sweden.
On the contrary Gotsche & Olsen (2000) disputed the findings of the Swedish randomised trials, claiming screening for breast cancer is unjustifiable, as
there is inconsistency within the randomisation of the trial, as two of these trials found no effect of screening on mortality. A meta analysis was
conducted by Gotsche & Olsen on the Swedish Trials results. This meta analysis found that 'for every 1000 women screened biennially throughout 12
years one breast cancer death is avoided, whereas the total number of deaths is increased by six'. Other studies that were conducted in New York,
Canada and Edinburgh had also been criticised on the methods of randomisation and validity.
The Forrest report stated that there must be a clinical examiner, radiologist and a pathologist within a multidisciplinary team to ensure that there is
expert knowledge available in each health profession. Breast Services should all have breast surgeons, nurses, radiographers, pathologists, radiologists,
oncologists, breast care services manager and clerical staff, this is what is recommended by the NICE 2002 for the successful running of the unit. The
use of mammography is the first line of diagnostic investigation for women in the NHSBSP, Forrest

Foucault Disciplinary Power
Disciplinary power is, according to Foucault, one of the primary means by which the modern social cohesion is maintained and operates through
producing "individuality" (tailoring to individuals in isolation of the collective population). It produces "trained bodies", by 'increasing' the forces of
the body (in terms of economic utility) and "diminishing" these same forces (in political terms to obedience). Through disciplinary power, a set of
new technologies emerged for the indirect control of bodies, and is reinforced through continuous surveillance or observation of all individuals, at all
times by leading them to the self structuring through socially normalized standards of the "right" behaviors. Disciplinary power is exercised by those

Panopticism in a Disciplinary Government Essay
Panopticism in a Disciplinary Government Discipline is an action, or idea that has been around for hundreds of years.
We are all familiar with it, as we experience some form of it every day. As Foucault describes, before the age of enlightenment, the ways of punishing
deviants was pure physical torture. During this time, the person who had the ability to inflict physical pain on an individual had power over that
person. As in most cases, the tormentors were part of the King's staff, or a normal citizen outraged by the act the criminal committed against his
beloved King. Lucky for us, the age of enlightenment came along. People no longer blamed natural disasters such as a tornado or a flood on God, they
were learning that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This worked so well because citizens would "govern" each other into acting normal, or in other words, the way the people in power wanted them to
act. People became afraid to act in a way that might make people think that they were odd, so they gladly acted like everyone else and didn't cause
any trouble. In such a process, the one in power usually isn't a conscious factor in an individual's process of self normalization, due to the fact that
they make themselves invisible and instill their norms in subtle ways. This is a prime example of panopticism, a theory developed by Jeremy
Bentham. In panopticism, the people govern, or normalize themselves, because they never know if the people in power are watching them. It turns the
society into an orderly, mechanized, productive group. It is much easier to "do the right thing", rather than risk the chance of getting punished by
government. The government scare the people so that they don't misbehave. But you never really know if they are watching you or not, so you
assume that they are for the majority of the time. This makes the people in power invisible to the common citizen. They don't know exactly who is
governing them, but they know they are there. This concept worked very well, as it is still happening today. We don't need the government to teach us
how to act because we do it ourselves, and to each other.

Topic: Beyond Disciplinary Confinement to Imaginative Transdisciplinarity.
INTRODUCTION
The society today is faced with various problems. Some have always been there, others are new to us, yet others have evolved from their older
modes and taken new dimensions. For example we are not strangers to issues of democratization, but certainly are faced with the changing mode of
war and terrorism. And then, new issues may include climate change. Whatever the category, man's eternal struggle is to be able to resolve the issues
that confront or threaten its existence. To do this man depends on knowledge gained from studying the problems. However, as problems evolve, they
seem to become resistant to existing approaches, or at least, we seem not to be able to resolve them using existing approaches. Thus those problems
become wicked problems. In this chapter, we discuss how such problems can be resolved using transdisciplinary approach.
WHY TRANSDICIPLINARITY?
The relevance of the transdisciplinarity approach is seen in the nature of the problem. Since problems are now multidimensional, then we agree that a
single approach will not sufficiently resolve it (Brown 2010:16). Hence we need a transdiciplinary approach.
In chapter two of Brown (2010:16), there are some other reasons why we need a transdiciplinary approach to wicked problems. They are:
1.Existing scientific approaches are to specialized or

Is Corporal Punishment A Good Disciplinary Tactic?
When a child gets out of line most parents in America will turn to their child and inflict a physical punishment on their child. Corporal punishment of
children is seen to many people as being a great measure to stop the inappropriate behavior and to keep their children in line. Corporal punishment is
socially accepted and widely practiced. Much like corporal punishment is assault. If an adult were to hit another adult that is assault which by the
means of the law could put someone in jail because physical interactions are frowned upon by our society. That does not apply to children only in
specific cases. Does the child get the right to choose whether they want to press charges on their parents? No. Hitting is Violence and the law is set ...

Corporal punishment can be traced as far back as the nineteenth century. Corporal punishment was used in schools to punish children, but since has
been banned; due to its unnatural and cruel nature. There are currently 19 states in the United States that allow corporal punishment in schools; which
are "Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina,
Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Wyoming. Corporal punishment is most prevalent in Texas."(19 States)
However, the home is the most common place nowadays where corporal punishment is used. Parents spank/hit their child to keep them from
misbehaving. Hitting children may actually increase misbehavior. One large study showed that the more parents spank children for rebellious behavior,
the more the rebellious behavior increased. Corporal punishment can often cause injuries and trauma unnecessarily. Many acts of corporal punishment
leave visible marks and bruises. Using corporal punishment could often evoke fear of the disciplinarian, which could potentially destroy the
relationship between parent and child. The mental anguish, particularly for vulnerable students, can last a lifetime. This doesn't have the effect of
dealing with bad behavior. It can lead

Spanking as a Disciplinary Method
In this literature review, the recent findings about spanking as a disciplinary method for a child is 70% of America adults agreed that it is 'sometimes
necessary to discipline a child with spanking (Petts, 2002). Spanking helps the child fit into the real world happily and effectively. It is the foundation
for the development of the child's own self–discipline (Tobias, 1999). Discipline such asspanking is about teaching and guiding children, not just
forcing them to obey. When using spanking to discipline, the child should always know that the parent loves and supports him or her. Trust between
parent and child should be maintained and constantly built upon. Studies show that spanking, properly utilized, can lead to well–adjusted children
(Dobson, 1992). The discipline of children has become a very controversial subject and emotional issue, especially in the light of today's plague of
child abuse. There will always be arguments on both sides.
Some Christian parents view spanking as a solution for discipline their children according to Gods word. Spanking is used to instruct their children in
the ways of God. It is important to view spanking in the total context of child development. While the Bible advocates corporal punishment, it also
places stern restrictions on its use. Spanking should never occur when a parent is angry (Lansford, Wager, Bates, Pettit, & Dodge, 2012). According to
the Bible, parents must lovingly shape their children according to God's

Determining Disciplinary Action for Employees in the Workplace
My role as manager requires me to observe all loss prevention issues and perform the necessary disciplinary action associated with them. When
observing employee issues and assessing the disciplinary action previously taken in the past, I noticed the course of action for offenders was limited.
You simply were reprimanded once and fired if the problem persisted. I initiallythought this was unfair to our employees because every problem did not
warrant the same disciplinary action. After critical examination of possible solutions to the disciplinary process within our company, I concluded

Rather, it is achievable by anyone who is willing to work hard and patiently. Three steps are involved: working out the details of the solution, finding
imperfections and complications, and making improvements. ("Refine Your Solution to the Problem").
My first step in working out the details to my original solution was to simply add a verbal and written warning process. Instead of an employee being
fired after two infractions, I proposed the company first give a verbal warning. The next infraction would be followed by a written warning as well as
specific training in regards to the infraction being made. If the employee were to make another mistake, it would then be up to management to then
terminate the employee.
The second step used in refining the solution to my problem was to find imperfections and complications. I realized my idea of implementing more
training, verbal and written warnings must first be presented to the other managers who worked with me as well. I realized my ideas may be met with
negative feedback from both co–workers as well as the employees who worked with us as well. I decided because the positive effect my idea would
have on the company would outweigh the negative feedback, I would next focus my attention on the presentation of my idea.
The last step was to make improvements to my original idea. I decided to present my solution in an open forum with both staff and management and

Disciplinary Literacy Essay
The article Does Disciplinary Literacy Have a Place in Elementary School? written by Timothy and Cynthia Shanahan describes disciplinary literacy as
an idea that educators should teacher their students specialized ways of reading, understanding, and thinking for different subjects. The materials for
every subject are written in such different, unique ways, that it would be beneficial for a student to have an insight on how and why texts are written as
they are. For example, historians only can rely on past findings by others, scientists can only rely on their own experiments/observations, and
sometimes–narrative authors have a bias. Shanahan identifies that general reading skills can only take a student so far. A student can comprehend and
read a text well, however the disciplinary approach could allow them to take that even further. The example given has to deal with general summaries
and how they often look similar throughout ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When I first saw it, I thought the title looked interesting so I decided to skim through it. It quickly caught my attention because I myself had
recognized the fact that different subjects have different ways the material should be read, but I was unaware that it was an actual issue within
education. Just from knowledge that I have gained so far by being in the education program, I know it is very important for students to be exposed to
different types of texts. This can help them broaden their knowledge and also see that everyone has different opinions, views, and perspectives. I also
knew that it was required of students to compare and contrast two different documents, however I never would have thought that this could take place
at such in lower elementary grade levels. The method of disciplinary literacy can really be broken down to any level and benefit every student. I will be
putting this practice to use within my classroom one

A survey that conducted by Sheldon from North American tourism and hospitality researchers showed that journal from wide variety of disciplines were published and referenced included economics, business studies, marketing, psychology, anthropology, and geography. In this way the employees maintain their own discipline rather than have management impose it. Employees are more likely to support standards that they have helped create. They also will give more support to standards that are stated positively instead of negatively, and when they have been told the reasons behind a standard so that it will make sense to them. • 6. The Roles Of Multi Disciplinary Working The significance of multi–disciplinary working has enabled different professionals from inter–agencies to collaborate with children and families. This essay will discuss the partnership between agencies with regards to the scenario given for this course; looking at present legislations and policies the government has implemented for the functioning of multi–disciplinary. I will analyse the scenario on Craig, who is in year 5 and has been identified as having special educational needs by his school. • 7. Questions On Increasing Disciplinary Reading 1.Increasing Disciplinary Reading Biancarosa (2012) states in the introduction to this section that as students progress up through the grades their reading in content–area courses becomes progressively more distinct (p. 47). A student in a fourth grade science course will encounter different terminology in a fourth grade social studies course and even more diverse terminology by the time they reach high school biology. However, I have often found, and Biancarosa (2012) as acknowledges that many schools do not focus on reading instruction across content areas. Biancarosa elaborates, "too often, schools do not explicitly teach students how the reasoning processes, strategies, and rules for achieving comprehension vary across the content areas" (p. 47). In order to develop adolescents' literacy skills we need to increase their interaction with diverse disciplinary texts. Looking at this from the higher education lens, once a student moves from the college–prep classroom to the collegiate environment they will be required to demonstrate comprehension and research skills in their specialized field of study. The best measure that teachers in the K–12 arena can do to assist them for this transition is to increase their interaction with these texts during the duration of their elementary and secondary school years. 2.Help Students Achieve Proficiency in Digital Reading This was rather a common sense recommendation given how much technology and digital reading students are ... • 10. Disciplinary Perspectives "Do not go gentle into that good night, / Old age should burn and rave at close of day; / Rage, rage against the dying of the light" (Thomas, 1951). These words spoke volumes when I first heard them in the motion picture, Interstellar. It can be interpreted in several different ways, however, to me, it simply means don't give up. Don't stop learning; don't stop working. Rage against the obstacles, unfortunate circumstances, and the end of each day. Each day brings opportunities to accomplish something new or to progress on any tasks, projects, or goals. I try to keep this state of mind as I continue to go through life. Three enormous cow patterned boxes showed up on our doorstep. Inside, was my very own Gateway desktop computer. Well, technically it was family owned. However, at the age of eight, I took the initiative to learn all I could about that computer. My current technical knowledge all stems from receiving that first computer. I would spend hours on end playing on that computer. It came with a binder of software CDs, including typing, algebra, art, and encyclopedias, which I learned how to install, configure, and function. Of course, like any computer connected to the Internet, it was prone to infection by viruses. I wish I would have known then what I know now. I would have saved myself so much time and angst. However, those issues and other problems that come along with owning a computer helped me become who I am today. I taught myself how to troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve operating systems, software, and hardware issues by conducting Internet research and by trial and error. Many computers were broken along the way, but I learned from my mistakes. This was my first experience with Self–Directing learning, without realizing it at the time. • 11. Pre-Disciplinary Communication Reflection On August 31, 2017 I spoke with Officer Burns via telephone in regards to his pending discipline and some concerns that had been brought to my attention by fellow officers and supervisors. The first portion of the conversation centered on his pending discipline and determining a date that would be acceptable for him to attend a pre–disciplinary hearing with Captain Berger to discuss the alleged violations. During this conversation I explained the severity of the violations and that based upon the number of violations within the past twelve months he will subject to the progressive discipline policy. It was stressed to Officer Burns that he could also be subject to termination in the future if his performance did not improve and he committed another violation. Officer Burns acknowledged that he understood the severity of the violations and acknowledged that he was aware of the progressive discipline policy of the city. After discussing the policy violations and determining an acceptable date for the pre–disciplinary hearing, I segued to the topic of the performance concerns that were brought to my attention. The first instance I spoke with Officer Burns about was the concerns that were brought up by Sgt. Adam Smotrich. Sgt. Smotrich detailed in a message to me that while on a call with Officer Burns involving an individual experiencing an emotional crisis and wielding a metal pipe, he became increasingly concerned that Officer Burns would be unable to defend himself. The reason for this concern was based upon the perceived physical limitations demonstrated by Officer Burns on the call. Sgt. Smotrich noted a noticeable limp and lack of ability to move laterally or backwards in a reasonably quick manner. This caused Sgt. Smotrich concern because he did not want Officer Burns to fall and be unable to defend himself if the subject advanced quickly while wielding a pipe. Sgt. Smotrich indicated he felt that Officer Burns would have been unable to adequately defend himself or assist him if he needed it. Sgt. Smotrich also noticed that after Officer Burns handcuffed the subject who was on the ground in a prone position, he labored to successfully get up without assistance. Sgt. Smotrich felt it ... In the recent past, with the advent of bioinformatics, storage of medical records is becoming computerized and thereby improving healthcare. The bioinformatics has turned out to be a blessing in disguise for physicians in the field of decision making. It has been observed, majority of the delay in medical decision is due to lack of information. Every year thousands of researches are conducted all around the world and it is impossible for physicians to keep a track about the information obtained from the results of clinical trials and other studies. The information obtained from these clinical results can be used as reference by the physicians in their medical decisions. The lack of information causes delay and thereby affecting patient healthcare. Bioinformatics help in keeping updated records of the results obtained from the researches. For example, MEDLINE is a database which contains 460,000 references of the information obtained from the conducted clinical trials and other studies. It is updated every year [6, 13]. ... • 15. RCMS Suport Requirement of University of Southern California University of Southern California (USC) established a system which provided some central resources to accommodate and support the requirements of the whole university. It was called RCMS. According to the university research committee report, RCM identified as an effective system. However, the committee stated that some modifications are required due to shortfalls of the system named as "perverse incentives", including discouragement of innovations, raising the barriers on multidisciplinary researches, encouragement of multiplication of courses and encouragement of manipulation of the financial data. Discouragement of innovations was the main concern of the critics. The financial pressure imposed on deans was forcing them to be concern about the financial aspects of their decisions rather than focusing on main mission as leaders of an academic institution. This critique could be validated because the main objective of each academic organization is encouraging and expanding the new ideas which might not be profitable in the short term. However, neglecting these ideas will threaten the university's long term profit. Raising the barriers on multidisciplinary research is the next concern. These types of researches require different perspectives, skills and expertise, which could only be acquired by a team work of a group of researchers from different faculties. The multidisciplinary barriers were high even before implementation of RCM. Therefore, blaming RCM as a barrier seems ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Discipline is defined as 'some action taken against an individual who fails to conform to the rules of an organisation of which he or she is a member', (Wheeler, 1976, as cited by Dundon and Rollinson, 2011). When preparing for a grievance meeting, managers should arrange a meeting in private, consider having someone that is not involved in the case to take notes, consider any special requirements for the employee if they have difficulty conversing in English, or is perhaps disabled and consider whether to offer independent mediation. When conducting the grievance meeting, managers are expected to make introductions as necessary, give the employee an opportunity to restate their grievance and how they wish for it to be solved, put care and thought into resolving the grievance, consider adjourning the meeting if it is necessary to investigate any new facts which arise and sum up the main points from the meeting (ACAS, 2015). When concluding the meeting, it is important for the manager to keep the employee in the know by informing them on when they can expect a response if one cannot be made immediately (ACAS, 2015). Disciplinary procedures follow a similar process to grievance procedures although they are not exactly the same. For example, employers should talk to the employee in private if they feel the employee is not performing to expected standards. The discussion should be encouraging performance and any criticism should most definitely be constructive in order to keep the rapport intact. The manager should make it clear to the ... The one thing that was always the same was the importance of having good classroom management with every class that I have taught. The most common cause of student misbehavior would be students who do not engage in their classroom work and feel as if it is too hard for them. Some disengage so they will not have to fail and others just do not make it a personal challenge to create success for themselves because they do not believe in themselves. This article is an attempt to discuss the reasons why scien– tific interdisciplinarity and transdisciplinarity pose specific problems. First of all, certain questions about terminology are taken into account in order to clarify the meaning of the word 'discipline' and its cognates. Secondly, we argue that the specificity of sciences does not lie in becoming disciplines. Then, we focus on the relationship between sciences, and between sciences and technologies: we argue that multidisciplinarity and interdisciplinar– ity are a common practice among strict sciences and technologies. Finally, we discuss the different meanings... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An edu– cational institution can create all disciplines it considers useful to teach, but you cannot create a strict science wherever you want, because strict sciences compromise the reality itself. Scientific theorems, such as Pythagoras's theorem, biological evol– ution, or atomic theory, do not compromise reality because they 'represent it ade– quately' but 'because there are certain parts of reality itself which are incorporated into the constituent chains of scientific body' (Bueno 1992, 900). Reality should be regarded as a process in fieri, which is dependent, in many of its parts, on the structure of scientific truths. We can speak about a kind of 'hyper–reality': it is an 'extended reality' that takes into account not only what appears directly to our senses (appear– ances, phenomena) but also everything that determines other things, that works and that exists, but it is not directly perceived, as electromagnetic waves, atomic structures, geometric relations, or evolutionary processes. So the most characteristic feature of science is its function to constitute certain important parts of this hyper–reality. Science builds a hyper–reality as it expands progressively. This meta analysis found that 'for every 1000 women screened biennially throughout 12 years one breast cancer death is avoided, whereas the total number of deaths is increased by six'. Other studies that were conducted in New York, Canada and Edinburgh had also been criticised on the methods of randomisation and validity. The Forrest report stated that there must be a clinical examiner, radiologist and a pathologist within a multidisciplinary team to ensure that there is expert knowledge available in each health profession. Breast Services should all have breast surgeons, nurses, radiographers, pathologists, radiologists, oncologists, breast care services manager and clerical staff, this is what is recommended by the NICE 2002 for the successful running of the unit. The use of mammography is the first line of diagnostic investigation for women in the NHSBSP, Forrest ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Foucault Disciplinary Power Disciplinary power is, according to Foucault, one of the primary means by which the modern social cohesion is maintained and operates through producing "individuality" (tailoring to individuals in isolation of the collective population). It produces "trained bodies", by 'increasing' the forces of the body (in terms of economic utility) and "diminishing" these same forces (in political terms to obedience). Through disciplinary power, a set of new technologies emerged for the indirect control of bodies, and is reinforced through continuous surveillance or observation of all individuals, at all times by leading them to the self structuring through socially normalized standards of the "right" behaviors. Disciplinary power is exercised by those ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Panopticism in a Disciplinary Government Essay Panopticism in a Disciplinary Government Discipline is an action, or idea that has been around for hundreds of years. We are all familiar with it, as we experience some form of it every day. As Foucault describes, before the age of enlightenment, the ways of punishing deviants was pure physical torture. During this time, the person who had the ability to inflict physical pain on an individual had power over that person. As in most cases, the tormentors were part of the King's staff, or a normal citizen outraged by the act the criminal committed against his beloved King. Lucky for us, the age of enlightenment came along. People no longer blamed natural disasters such as a tornado or a flood on God, they were learning that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This worked so well because citizens would "govern" each other into acting normal, or in other words, the way the people in power wanted them to act. People became afraid to act in a way that might make people think that they were odd, so they gladly acted like everyone else and didn't cause any trouble. In such a process, the one in power usually isn't a conscious factor in an individual's process of self normalization, due to the fact that they make themselves invisible and instill their norms in subtle ways. This is a prime example of panopticism, a theory developed by Jeremy Bentham. In panopticism, the people govern, or normalize themselves, because they never know if the people in power are watching them. It turns the society into an orderly, mechanized, productive group. It is much easier to "do the right thing", rather than risk the chance of getting punished by government. The government scare the people so that they don't misbehave. But you never really know if they are watching you or not, so you assume that they are for the majority of the time. This makes the people in power invisible to the common citizen. They don't know exactly who is governing them, but they know they are there. This concept worked very well, as it is still happening today. We don't need the government to teach us how to act because we do it ourselves, and to each other. We are always very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Beyond Disciplinary Confinement And Imaginative... Osazuwa Osayomwanbor 200345160 Sociology/Social Studies Reading Summary (SOST 801) Topic: Beyond Disciplinary Confinement to Imaginative Transdisciplinarity. INTRODUCTION The society today is faced with various problems. Some have always been there, others are new to us, yet others have evolved from their older modes and taken new dimensions. For example we are not strangers to issues of democratization, but certainly are faced with the changing mode of war and terrorism. And then, new issues may include climate change. Whatever the category, man's eternal struggle is to be able to resolve the issues that confront or threaten its existence. To do this man depends on knowledge gained from studying the problems. However, as problems evolve, they seem to become resistant to existing approaches, or at least, we seem not to be able to resolve them using existing approaches. Thus those problems become wicked problems. In this chapter, we discuss how such problems can be resolved using transdisciplinary approach. WHY TRANSDICIPLINARITY? The relevance of the transdisciplinarity approach is seen in the nature of the problem. Since problems are now multidimensional, then we agree that a single approach will not sufficiently resolve it (Brown 2010:16). Hence we need a transdiciplinary approach. In chapter two of Brown (2010:16), there are some other reasons why we need a transdiciplinary approach to wicked problems. They are: 1.Existing scientific approaches are to specialized or ... • 37. Is Corporal Punishment A Good Disciplinary Tactic? When a child gets out of line most parents in America will turn to their child and inflict a physical punishment on their child. Corporal punishment of children is seen to many people as being a great measure to stop the inappropriate behavior and to keep their children in line. Corporal punishment is socially accepted and widely practiced. Much like corporal punishment is assault. If an adult were to hit another adult that is assault which by the means of the law could put someone in jail because physical interactions are frowned upon by our society. That does not apply to children only in specific cases. Does the child get the right to choose whether they want to press charges on their parents? No. Hitting is Violence and the law is set ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Corporal punishment can be traced as far back as the nineteenth century. Corporal punishment was used in schools to punish children, but since has been banned; due to its unnatural and cruel nature. There are currently 19 states in the United States that allow corporal punishment in schools; which are "Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Wyoming. Corporal punishment is most prevalent in Texas."(19 States) However, the home is the most common place nowadays where corporal punishment is used. Parents spank/hit their child to keep them from misbehaving. Hitting children may actually increase misbehavior. One large study showed that the more parents spank children for rebellious behavior, the more the rebellious behavior increased. Corporal punishment can often cause injuries and trauma unnecessarily. Many acts of corporal punishment leave visible marks and bruises. Using corporal punishment could often evoke fear of the disciplinarian, which could potentially destroy the relationship between parent and child. The mental anguish, particularly for vulnerable students, can last a lifetime. This doesn't have the effect of dealing with bad behavior. It can lead ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Spanking as a Disciplinary Method In this literature review, the recent findings about spanking as a disciplinary method for a child is 70% of America adults agreed that it is 'sometimes necessary to discipline a child with spanking (Petts, 2002). Spanking helps the child fit into the real world happily and effectively. It is the foundation for the development of the child's own self–discipline (Tobias, 1999). Discipline such asspanking is about teaching and guiding children, not just forcing them to obey. When using spanking to discipline, the child should always know that the parent loves and supports him or her. Trust between parent and child should be maintained and constantly built upon. Studies show that spanking, properly utilized, can lead to well–adjusted children (Dobson, 1992). The discipline of children has become a very controversial subject and emotional issue, especially in the light of today's plague of child abuse. There will always be arguments on both sides. Some Christian parents view spanking as a solution for discipline their children according to Gods word. Spanking is used to instruct their children in the ways of God. It is important to view spanking in the total context of child development. While the Bible advocates corporal punishment, it also places stern restrictions on its use. Spanking should never occur when a parent is angry (Lansford, Wager, Bates, Pettit, & Dodge, 2012). According to the Bible, parents must lovingly shape their children according to God's ... • 40. Determining Disciplinary Action Paper Solve a Problem PHL/458 Determining Disciplinary Action for Employees in the Workplace My role as manager requires me to observe all loss prevention issues and perform the necessary disciplinary action associated with them. When observing employee issues and assessing the disciplinary action previously taken in the past, I noticed the course of action for offenders was limited. You simply were reprimanded once and fired if the problem persisted. I initiallythought this was unfair to our employees because every problem did not warrant the same disciplinary action. After critical examination of possible solutions to the disciplinary process within our company, I concluded management should implement better training for its ... Three steps are involved: working out the details of the solution, finding imperfections and complications, and making improvements. ("Refine Your Solution to the Problem"). My first step in working out the details to my original solution was to simply add a verbal and written warning process. Instead of an employee being fired after two infractions, I proposed the company first give a verbal warning. The next infraction would be followed by a written warning as well as specific training in regards to the infraction being made. If the employee were to make another mistake, it would then be up to management to then terminate the employee. The second step used in refining the solution to my problem was to find imperfections and complications. I realized my idea of implementing more training, verbal and written warnings must first be presented to the other managers who worked with me as well. I realized my ideas may be met with negative feedback from both co–workers as well as the employees who worked with us as well. I decided because the positive effect my idea would have on the company would outweigh the negative feedback, I would next focus my attention on the presentation of my idea. The last step was to make improvements to my original idea. I decided to present my solution in an open forum with both staff and management and have an open ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Disciplinary Literacy Essay The article Does Disciplinary Literacy Have a Place in Elementary School? written by Timothy and Cynthia Shanahan describes disciplinary literacy as an idea that educators should teacher their students specialized ways of reading, understanding, and thinking for different subjects. The materials for every subject are written in such different, unique ways, that it would be beneficial for a student to have an insight on how and why texts are written as they are. For example, historians only can rely on past findings by others, scientists can only rely on their own experiments/observations, and sometimes–narrative authors have a bias. Shanahan identifies that general reading skills can only take a student so far. A student can comprehend and read a text well, however the disciplinary approach could allow them to take that even further. The example given has to deal with general summaries and how they often look similar throughout ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When I first saw it, I thought the title looked interesting so I decided to skim through it. It quickly caught my attention because I myself had recognized the fact that different subjects have different ways the material should be read, but I was unaware that it was an actual issue within education. Just from knowledge that I have gained so far by being in the education program, I know it is very important for students to be exposed to different types of texts. This can help them broaden their knowledge and also see that everyone has different opinions, views, and perspectives. I also knew that it was required of students to compare and contrast two different documents, however I never would have thought that this could take place at such in lower elementary grade levels. The method of disciplinary literacy can really be broken down to any level and benefit every student. I will be putting this practice to use within my classroom one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
