My name is Kyobeom (or K.B.) Koo, and I am pursuing a PhD in marketing to become an expert
researcher in consumer behaviour. My goal is to generate research insights to help consumers,
managers, and institutions make better decisions. Given my career goal, pursuing a PhD at UBC
represents the next logical step. UBC is a highly–regarded institution that can provide me with the

I used to believe that we could be anything that we wanted to be, as long as we wanted it enough;
that was around age 13. I still believe that we can be anything we want to be, with a few changes to
that belief: it has to fit in to the status quo, be accepted by those around you, and provide you with
enough money to live in what society perceives as a comfortable and successful lifestyle. Although a
lot has changed since American political activist Mario Savio wrote the article "An End to History"
in 1964, a great deal of change is required before students can become part of the system without
having to disregard their creativity and passion. In his article, Savio explains that his vision of the
proper role of the university or any such institution for that matter is one where the institution not
only allows its students to speak freely about the causes that matter to them, namely political
matters, but also allows students to mould themselves into the people they want to be, rather than
the institution moulding them into the people society wants them to be. Savio explains that he
believed the greatest problem in the United States during the 1960s (and arguably twenty–first
century) to be the depersonalized, unresponsive bureaucracy, that bleeds into the very institutions
used to shape the future leaders of the country. He continues by stating that because of the

Before his term as Prime Minister, Mackenzie King did work in relation to politics and labour. He is
a part of the Liberal Party, with its former head, Sir Wilfrid Laurier, who was his mentor as well.

Theme Of Horror In Dante's Inferno
A sin is an act committed against divine law. Have you ever found yourself wondering what can
possibly happen if those sins are not resolved? Well, in Dante Alighieri's divine comedy Dante's
Inferno, Alighieri paints the most poetic vision of what may happen to those who have not resolved
their sins. The poem is filled with horror as the characters journey through the nine circles. As a
reader you find yourself wondering, am I going to end up in one of those circles? Dante's Inferno
paints the picture of horror, delves into irony, and focuses on the absence of righteousness. Although
a comedy, Dante's Inferno paints a vision enthralled in horror. From the point of view of himself,
Alighieri relates his emotion to the readers. In the beginning Alighieri finds himself in the first
circle, limbo, the souls here are the souls that have not been baptized and pagans. He descends down
into the second circle where he witnesses the souls of those who committed crimes of lust "The
infernal hurricane that never rests / Hurtles the spirits onward in its rapine; / Whirling them around,
and smiting, it molests them" (Alighieri 34–36). The amount of horror conceived from this one
passage, was so horrific to Dante he began crying and felt the journey might have been too much.
Horror is not the only trait Dante's Inferno showcases; the divine comedy has a comedic undertone.
Alighieri uses irony as a way to relate the readers. He puts himself in a position that a reader can
similarly find themselves. According to William Franke author of "Dante's Deconstruction and
Reconstruction of Prophetic Voice and Vision in the Malebolge (Inferno XVIII–XXII)" Alighieri
used his poems to convey the irony within themselves: "Indeed, only as "comedy" can it become
"divine." The best that any human effort can do, finally, is to confess its own insufficiency. A poem
can, furthermore, unmask the false pretensions of more purportedly solemn attempts to prophesy
that, without comic qualifiers, take themselves absolutely seriously, as if they were gospel"

first published in 1886, he describes a place in Sligo called Sleuth Wood. In this work, he attempts
to create a sense of the wonder of nature, the ancient and ageless mystical world of myth and legend.
Yeats' "tend[s] to support the idea of a connection between the idea of first, consciousness and the
outer world and second, nature and the spiritual world." Instead of concentrating on the physical

The author, Audra Simpson, address the struggles of the Mohawk indigenous peoples in
southwestern Quebec. She also tackles the indigenous peoples' situation in maintaining political

In order to examine public awareness and knowledge of multiple sclerosis, a small scale survey and
personal interviews will be utilized.
Part 1: Quantitative study The first study of the research project will use a quantitative approach to
investigate public awareness. It will consist of a convenience sampling technique in which a survey
will be given to an undergraduate class at Wilfrid Laurier University to obtain information regarding
the public's understanding of multiple sclerosis. Convenience sampling is the most logical approach
for the quantitative study because finding individuals representative of the entire population would
be difficult due to time constraints and lack of resources and would be beyond the scope of this
research project. The undergraduate class chosen at random by Dr. Timothy Gawley and Dr. James
LeClair will provide the optimal sample size of 80 to 100 individuals.
The purpose of the quantitative study is to provide details on the general awareness of multiple
sclerosis among a small sample of the undergraduate students at Wilfrid Laurier University. It will
determine if public awareness is sufficient or highly inadequate in this group of individuals and if
awareness programs would be beneficial. These results could also infer awareness patterns that may

Just before I entered High school my parents separated and my life was turned upside down. My
father had been the bigger financial provider in the family, but that is not to say that we would
struggle if he was not around, or at least that was what I thought. My sister and I moved into a
thirteen thousand square foot house, which was a downsize from our twenty–four thousand square
foot family home. We continued our lives, making small cut backs here and there to save money yet

Using 'radicalized and stereotyped identities' the colonial curriculum maintained the imperial
colonial world view through the creation of the 'other' (Crossley & Tikly, 2004, p. 150). This
colonial world can be recreated in modern academic curriculums furthering the dichotomous

There is plenty of literature about interculturality in the classroom and how educators can engage

Benefits Of Mandatory Public Service
Imagine how different the world would be if every citizen were required to volunteer. The endless
potentiality of fostering a better sense of community could inevitably be a game changer in the way
Americans live and interact with one another. Public service benefits society and individuals.
Because it does, it should be enforced as a requirement for all high school students to graduate.
Although volunteering is a common practice among some Americans, making it mandatory would
ensure that more Americans were engaging in the selfless act and therefore improving society. It
would not only benefit the volunteer, but also the world around them. Some people volunteer to give
back, and some people do it to develop new skills and build knowledge. Either way, volunteering is
beneficial. Despite the concerns that many may have against mandatory public service, America
should enforce public service for every high school student because it develops character, and helps
society. Although there are some people who believe that mandatory public service is not a good
idea, the reasons for making it mandatory are beneficial. Arguers against making it mandatory feel
that forcing volunteerism defeats the purpose of doing it in the first place. They assert that forcing
someone to do anything defeats the reasoning behind the action, making it lesser–than in the eyes of
the doer. These arguers also feel that the average American is too busy managing work and life in
