1. MANGITA AND LARINA

Summary of Story
This story about a family in the lake district of Luzon. The family including fisherman
whose wife had died, leaving him two beautiful daughters named Mangita and Larina.
Mangita is a kind person and Larina is an unkind person. One day, fisherman died, Mangita
Have to take care of everything. Mangita works hard every day without Larina helps.
WhiMangita works hard every day without breaks. While she was preparing the market, she
met an old woman who asked for something to eat. Mangita brings her the only bread she
has to the old woman. Mangita went home and sleep with empty stomached. A few days
later, Mangita fell ill and was bedridden. Larina doesn’t care about Mangita. While Mangita
is going to die, she had saved by a prince who posed as an old woman. Larina betrayed
Mangita then the prince gives her to learn a lesson. The prince and Mangita back to the
prince island and live together happily.

Act I
Scene I
In the lake town of Luzon, there lived a fisherman with his two daughters,
Mangita and Larina. Mangita was the eldest daughter and was very kind
and loving to everyone. The younger one, Larina, however, was just unlike
her sister in every way. She would be mean to other people.
Setting The market in the town

Narrator Once upon a time in the lake town of Luzon, there lived a
fisherman with his two daughters, Mangita and Larina. Mangita
was the eldest daughter and was very kind and loving to
everyone. The younger one, Larina, however, was just unlike
her sister in every way. She would be mean to other people,
catch butterflies and enclose then in bottles for fun and often
speak rudely with her sister.

2. //In front of curtain//
Fisherman and Mangita are walking out on the left and talking in front of curtain.
Mangita
Father, this’s your lunch box. Take care of your health and have
a good day.
Fisherman Thank my sweetheart,
Fisherman coughs.
Fisherman don’t forget to eat, take care yourself and your sister.
Mangita Yes, father.
Fisherman See you, sweetheart
Fisherman walks to the right and Mangita shouts and waves.
Mangita Have a nice day!! Father!
Fisherman turned around to smile and waves.
Mangita
I do care about father. Okay! I’ll do my best. But first I’m going
to the market.
Mangita walking and speaking along to the left of curtain.
Mangita Buy some meat, bread and orange.

Simon Hi! Mangita. What would you like?
Mangita Hi! Simon. I want four loaf of bread and some butter.
Mangita Hi! Miss. Lita! Do you have any meat today?
Lita
Certainly! Mangi. Today I have fresh meat form the other side
of the sea. What kind of meat do you want?
Mangita I would like two kilos of pork…that enough.
Lita Wait for a while! Here two kilos of pork.
Mangita Pays.
Mangita Thanks, Miss. Lita.
Mangita walks to a fruit shop.
Maria Hello! Sweetie! How are you?
Mangita Hi! Maria. I am well. And you?
Maria I’m good. And what’s about your father?
Mangita
He wasn’t feeling well and cough all the time. I do care about
him.
Maria
Oh! Poor Mangi. I’m sorry to hear that. He’s gonna be okay
soon. I believe that.

Suddenly, Bran ran and cried on to the stage. Larina coming after and bullying him.

Near town lake, While I was playing with butterflies. They are
beautiful and fantastic. Suddenly, Larina catch butterflies and
enclose then in bottles for fun!
Bran
I told her! Don’t hurt them! Let’s them free! You’re not
listening! And hit me!
Lita What! He’s just a boy!? Why did you do that?
Larina
It’s just butterflies. I can catch it whenever I want! It’s not
yours. A Boy!
Lita You!! This is childish!
Larina Well?
Lita will attack Larina but Mangi stop and apologize for Lita and her child.
Mangita Please, calm down Lita!
Lita Don’t stop me Mangi!
Mangita Please, Lita.
Lita Such a girl. I let her for your sake. Poor Mangi.
Mangita Thank you for your kindness. Lita
Lita turned to Larina with frown and left away.
Lita For shame! Come home my pumpkins.
Mangita turned to Larina.
Mangita Sis, are you okay?

Larina Oh! What the heck with you!? I aright!
Mangita Oh! Poor butterflies. Let’s it free Larina.

Mangita take the bottle and let the butterflies.

Larina go away. Mangita shook her head.

Act I
Scene II The Fisherman died and surviving in the house rests on the shoulders of
Mangita.
Setting Fisherman house, Bedroom
Character Fisherman, Larina, Mangita

Fisherman and Mangita come out from the left of the state and said.
Fisherman Hello! My two lovely daughters. I home. (*cough)
Mangita Father! Are you tried? Have a nice day at work?
Fisherman
Today, the weather is bad. There's a storm. (*cough) But I’m
alright.
Mangita Take care yourself father. I was worried about your health.
Oh, don't worry. I'm as healthy as a horse. Hahaha
While they are talking, Mangita is serving dinner.
Mangita Hahaha, I don't believe you.
Fisherman Where’s Larina?
Mangita Ah! She…

4. Larina comes out from the right of the state and said.
Larina Hi! father. Just arrived?
Fisherman Oh, I had arrived for a while. Sit down. Have dinner.
Larina No, I’ll pick it up to bedroom.
Mangita Sit down, Sis. Eat and talk with us.
Larina Come on, Sister. This is so boring.
Larina goes to bedroom where settled on the right of the state.

Larina sits and combs her hair in front of a mirror.

Fisherman My lovely daughter. You always take care of everyone. Kind and
gentle. If I die, I die happily that you can take care of your sister
and our home.
Mangita Father! What’s are you trying to say!? You have to live for a
long time.
Fisherman Hahaha Just old man words. (*heavy cough)
Fisherman heavy cough and died.
Mangita Father!! What happened to you!? Water! Water! Help Larina!
Help!!
Mangita is crying so hard.
Father. Don’t worry with us. It’s time to rest. God bring you to
heaven.
Suddenly, Larina comes out of the room. She shocks and gets down on her knees.
Larina Father…
Mangita Sleep in peace father. I’ll take care of everything.
Mangita and Larina cry.

Act II
Scene I
After they father died. Mangita did the best she could. She takes care of
everything. But now she so tried and asked Larina for help but Larina
rejects her.
Setting Bedroom

Narrator After they father died. Mangita did the best she could. She
takes care of everything. But now she so tried and asked Larina
for help.

Larina sits in front of the mirror and combs her hair.
Mangita comes out from the left of the state and walk in to bedroom.
Mangita Sister, I am here to talk to you about something important.
Larina Oh, go away! Can’t you see I am busy?
Mangita Well, I won’t take much of your time!
Larina Urghh!!! What is IT?
Mangita Well, since father is not with us anymore, we don’t have
anyone earning for us. Hence, I have decided to go sell fish in

5. the market every day. I don’t know if it would be enough but I
would try my best!
Larina Okay! Whatever! Now leave me alone!
Mangita You don’t have to be so unkind with me. I love you, you know,
right?
Larina Oh, I don’t need your love, sister! I was born in the wrong
family.
But know this, things won’t always stay the same. I am destined
to become a queen one day and leave this miserable, miserable
town and all of you behind!
My prince charming will come! YOU WILL SEE!
Mangita let out a sigh!
Mangita Aah!
Oh, I wish nothing but happiness for you, little sister!

Scene II
Mangita works hard every day without breaks. One day, while she was
preparing the market, she met an old woman who asked for help from her.

Mangita carries a fish basket from the left to the right of the state.

Mangita carries a fish basket from the right to the left of the state.

Mangita carries a fish basket comes out from the left of the state and hurriedly prepare
the fish for sell.
Mangita soliloquy
Oh! What’s time is it?
I’m getting late. (*cough two times)
I don’t have much time before the market opened.
While Mangita preparing the fish, an old woman knocked at the door and call her.

woman
Hello, anybody inside?
Old woman knocks at the door again.
Mangita
huh? Who?
It's not the time to open the market.
Mangita walks to the door and opens.
Mangita
Oh! Hello, Grandmother. The market will open in 30 minutes.
(*cough) I'm still not finished to prepare the fish.
Old
woman
O’ dear child!
I am hungry and thirsty and have walked for miles!
Would you be kind enough to give me a loaf to eat and a little
water to drink?
After finished. I would be on my way.
Mangita Yes, sure. Come in first and sit here. (*cough)
Old woman sits and asks Mangita.

What is your name, dear?
Mangita My name is Mangita. (*cough)
Old
woman
Beautiful name.
Oh, thank you so much, my child!
Narrator
Mangita bring her the only bread she has. She also gives her a
glass of water.
The old woman happily eats the bread and drinks the water.
Old
woman
You are a kind soul! I will never forget you for this. Mangita
Mangita Take care yourself, Grandmother. (*heavy cough)
Saying this, the old woman left.

Act III
Scene I
Mangita went home and sleep with empty stomached.
A few days later, Mangita fell ill and was bedridden. And she asked Larina
to sell the fish for her but Larina rejects and walks out. While Larina is
walking out, she meets the old woman standing outside the house.
The old woman brings medicine to Mangita but Larina eat it all then Larina
becomes seriously ill. The old woman knows that she quickly comes and
helps Mangita to get well. The old woman turns into the Prince Charming.
He convinces Mangita to live with him and she agrees. Before they go, the
prince cursed Larina to comb her hair for eternity. -End-

Please go to the market and sell the fish. We have no savings to
survive.
Larina I am not going anywhere. I am telling you for the last time.
Narrator
Saying that, Larina stepped out of the room and saw the old
woman standing outside.
The Old woman comes out from the left of the state and meets Larina.
Larina What do you want, old man?
Old
woman
I heard that Mangita is unwell.
I have brought her these seeds that will help her recover.
Let me in so that I can give her the medicine every hour and
take care of her.
You will see that by morning she will be fine!
Larina made a sly face.
Yes, sure. She is my sister. Please leaves it in the room. I’ll take
special care for her.
Yeah, of course.

7. The Old woman walks in to the bedroom while Mangita is sleeping.
Old woman
O’ dear, you look really sick.
Today, I bring the medicine that will help you recover.
Larina eavesdrops outside the room.
The old woman knew that Larina eavesdrops outside, then she continues to say.
Old woman
And this special medicine which is fine, if it is good person like
you eat.
No matter how seriously ill you are, you will get well.
Larina eavesdrops carefully.
The old woman is whispering to Mangita who still unconscious.
Old woman But if a bad person eats, that person will become seriously ill.
The old woman stops whisper.
Old woman Dear Mangita get well soon.
The old woman leaves the house and Larina come in the room.
Larina Oh, poor sister, I take those of you.
Larina eats medicine.
Larina (*heavy cough) What's happening to me? (*heavy cough)
Larina falls to the ground.
Larina S-Sister! Help me!
Suddenly the old woman comes in the room and Mangita wakes up in a little hazy.
Mangita
W-What happened?
Larina!! What happened to you?
Grandmother, why you here?
Old woman
Today, I bring the medicine that will help you recover. This
special medicine will be fine if it is a good person like you eat.
But your sister, she doesn't want you to eat and get well.
So, she eats it all!
Mangita Turns to Larina who lay on the ground and asks.
Mangita That wasn't real, was it?
Larina That's a lie. I love you so much, you know.
Sister, it hurts. (*cough)
Mangita Please, Grandmother. Help my sister.
Old woman Dear, I have just enough for one dose. For one person.
Mangita lost in thought.
Old woman Dear, ……Dear! Do you hear me?
Mangita Please, Grandmother gives it to my sister.
Larina Alright! Sister, I knew that you love me so much. Please
Old woman
O’ dear Mangita, I have total faith in the kindness you have for
your sister.
Have you made a good decision?
Mangita Yes, Grandmother. Please help her.
The Old woman gives medicine to Larina and Larina get up.
Larina Look!! I am got well!!

8. Mangita
Grandmother, I appreciate all that you've done for my sister.
(*heavy cough) Sister, I'm leaving everything in your hand.
Please take care it well.
Larina
What are you talking about!? I am destined to become a queen
one day and leave this miserable, miserable town and all of you
behind! My prince charming will come!
Larina is leaving and Mangita says.
Mangita Sister! Why do you say like that?
Larina Oh, sister. You're an idiot. You deserve to die!
Mangita Larina…… (*cry)
Old woman Okay. Show's over!
The Old woman turned into a Prince Charming.
Mangita and Larina is surprise.

Mangita, I am the prince from Norarea which is fantasy island.
I am here to find someone who kind, gentle and merciful. Someone I
need to rest my life with. It is you Mangita.
Mangita lost in thought.
Mangita P-Prince! (*cough)

The prince kisses on her forehead then the cure of Mangita got well.
Mangita Thank for your kindness but I can’t leave my sister.
Prince
Charming
Dear, she doesn’t want you anymore. Look at her.
Larina said while she was combing her hair.
Larina
Mangita stop the show! Let out a sigh!
Go away from here with your Prince and let me be
I have never liked you and I never ever will!!
One day, my prince will come and marry me.
Mangita Larina…… (*cry) Why you hate me like that?
Larina Get out!
Prince
Charming
Don’t feel sad over her.
She does not deserve your love and kindness.

Mangita But…but she is my sister!

snapped his fingers and the two vanished into thin air.
