Cutting costs and growing capabilities through

Washington DC
Focus Day February 19, 2014
Main Summit February 20-21, 2014
Dear Colleague,
In the last six to eight years, the world has experienced fundamental changes to the way we conduct business through
technology. These changes have not only come in the form of hardware and software technology, but also in the way we
interact with and consume information.
In a world that is permanently “switched on,” we expect nothing less than to be connected at all times. Cloud computing is
an integral part of this mobile experience that allows us to remain connected through our devices. Everything we used to do,
we can now do more efficiently and effectviely whilst spending less. With the Cloud First Policy, defense and government are
catching up to the private sector and realizing the short and long-term gains aasssociated with migrating to cloud-based
solutions. These allow for tremendous savings through the management of services instead of hardware, fundamentally
changing way we interact with technology at a government level.
The federal government has requested that up to $20 billion of their yearly IT budget to be allocated to Cloud based solutions:
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
$10 billion divided equally amongst 10 Cloud service providers by the Department of Interior
$600 million contract awarded to IBM by the Central Intelligence Agency
$450 million on specific Cloud computing applications for the Department of Defense
$15-18 million yearly for IT modernization under the Department of Energy
$3.5 billion in mobility growth by 2016 for Department of Health and Human Services
$30 million for the GSA’s SmartCLoud program
$730 million allocated to cybersecurity research and IT restrcuturing by the Department of Homeland Security
$92.6 million to IT restructuring for the Department of Justice
$45 million for a new Defense Information Systems Agency Cloud computing contract
$4.25 million for IT modernization and migration to Cloud for the Department of Labor
$11.6 million for Cloud based nodes, Environmental Protection Agency
Building on the success of previous events, the 5th Annual Cloud Computing Conference for DoD and Government will
refine its scope by addressing the newest developments in Cloud Computing in the government and defense sector. Cloud
has matured and is becoming the industry norm, therefore IDGA is bringing together leading experts to speak about their very
own challenges associated with the implementation and maintaining of Cloud systems and how to overcome them. The event
will highlight best practice and lessons learned to address issues like migrating information to the Cloud, data center
consolidation, cyber security, ensuring interoperability, and many more.
Sign up today to be a part of this exclusive and collaborative event dedicated to the improvement of industry challenges
regarding the transformational power of Cloud computing for the Government and Defense Sector.
Kind regards,
Alex Abboud
