Inherit The Wind Quotes
In the play, Inherit the Wind by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee, the character of Bertram Cates
causes the most amount of conflict and impact on his society. He teaches about evolution, so he
starts the heated argument on his punishment, and how he impacted the people with his actions
In the beginning of the play Inherit the Wind, the character of Cates causes much conflict by
teaching to his class of students about Darwin's theory of evolution in the little town of Hillsboro.
Back when this play actually happened on the exact date of July 21, 1925, in America, it was illegal
to teach public schools about Darwin's theory of evolution. But Bertram Cates decided to take
matters into his own hands and teach it to his students. As it says on Scene 1, Act 1, Cates confesses,
"I had the book in my hand, I opened it up, and read my sophomore science class Chapter 17,
Darwin's Origin of Species." Therefore, he was challenged by the god of lawyers, lawyer and
temporary Colonel Matthew Harrison Brady to fight for Hillsboro, a God–loving county, against
him. But Cates has his own titan to fight for him, lawyer and also temporary Colonel Henry
Drummond. In act 1, scene one, E.K Hornbeck states, "And the most agile mind of the Twentieth
Century, Henry Drummond." This quote shows that Matthew Harrison Brady has his work cut out
for him, a reporter says how mighty Drummond will be. So this would have to a extremely heated
court about what should happen to Cates. And it happened. A 2 day trial containing yelling, a judge
with an actual gavel, and even the press showed up because of the significance of this court. The
court has swirled the boiling pot of conflict within the city of Hillsboro, making ... Show more

Surviving Dinosaur Extinction
The species that survived the dinosaur extinction are believed to be what life on this planet is
descended from. Aligators, crocodiles, lizards and snakes are among the reptiles that survived what
dinosaurs couldn't. Birds also survived, and are the only descendants of dinosaurs that survived the
mass extinction other than lizards. Frogs and salamanders are among the few small amphibians that
survived. Mammals also survived and they are the largest group to survive the extinction. Over 50%
of the world's population were thought to have died out in the course of this event. Many species
became extinct, some of these were marine reptiles, big amphibians, some reef–building creatures
and some cephalopod molluscs.

Taking a Look at Tunguska Explosion
In June of 1908, a fireball descended towards Earth leaving a fiery white trail in its path. It landed in
Siberia but it wasn't like any other asteroid. This one appeared to have exploded in mid air causing
Hiroshima like effects. There is no evidence that it hit Earth, but there is a crater shaped lake about
five miles from where the suspected spot it landed. The fire ball left thousands of trees on fire,
seemingly blowing over millions. This force killed local people as well as animals and there is only
one thing that we can conclude about it... it was an asteroid.
At exactly 7:17 A.M. local time on June 30,1908 an asteroid came plummeting down toward Earth's
surface. This occurrence happened around the Podkamennaya Tunguska River in Russia. "Recent
scientific studies by meteorite researcher Christopher Chyba have estimated that the Tunguska event
may have been caused by the explosion of a stony meteorite about 30 meters in diameter traveling at
about 15 km/s. Compare the energy released by such an object with that of an atomic bomb such as
those dropped on Japan in World War II." (Planetary Science Institute) Although it took scientists
many years after the explosion to get out to the suspected site of where it landed, they are not able to
find any evidence of it hitting Earth.
Reports have been taken about the effects of the explosion. They have done things that would have
been thought impossible."One older man at about this distance was reportedly blown

The Cretaceous-Tertiary Mass Extinction
The age of the planet Earth is estimated to be about four point six billion years old. Life on Earth is
estimated to have started one billion years later. Evolution has taken place since then. Evolving life
from simple forms into more complex forms through the course of time. It all began with single
celled organisms, prokaryotes. Later evolving in a period of two hundred million years,
cyanobacteria began to produce photosynthesis. And life went on, evolving, adapting to its home.
However through this course of time, mass extinctions have taken place on planet Earth. One of the
most recent mass extinctions, has as a matter of fact left various amounts of evidence of the
creatures which roamed the Earth at that time. Such magnificent creatures which varied from a very
small size to giant sizes. Creatures which are now known to humanity as dinosaurs. The name of this
extinction was the Cretaceous–Tertiary Mass Extinction. This extinction took place roughly sixty
five million years ago. It has not been too long since this incident compared to the life span of the
Earth. And yet it is still unclear how this extinction occurred. Paleontologists to this day, debate on
how this extinction occurred. A major factor on what caused this extinction to occur was an impact
of an asteroid. Another theory such as sea level regression is considered to be the blame for the
extinction. Sea level regression is the drop of sea levels which aids to explain the marine mass
extinction, however

Emily Dickinson : A Comparison Of Death
Emily Dickinson is one of Americas greatest and most original poets of all time. Over the span of
her lifetime she came to compose many poems that pertained to the topic of death, which made it
seem as if she had an almost morbid fascination with the subject. Her poems "I heard a Fly buzz –
when I died", and "Because I could not stop for death–" are some of the many poems that she wrote
on this ghastly topic. Even though the poems are somewhat similar with the main focus being death
from different viewpoints, I personally believe that "I heard a Fly buzz–when I died" was more of a
powerful and impacting poem for various reasons.
In Dickinson's "Because I could not stop for Death–" she mentions death as a person stopping for
the character ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This shows that death isn't serene or content as shown in "Because I could not stop for death–," but
that it's scary and lonely showing the realistic aspect of death and the weight that it carries.
In the last stanza of "I heard a Fly–when I died" we can see how Dickinson's approach to fatality has
a more serious, realistic, and cold tone "With Blue–uncertain stumbling Buzz–/Between the light–
and me–/And then the Windows failed–and then/I could not see to see." This is what I believe makes
this poem so powerful, the fact that it shows that death has no persona, and that it has no calm or
swift aftermath. I admire this piece by Dickinson because it shows us that death isn't gentle nor
compassionate; it doesn't give us nice endings with beautiful sceneries, but cold truths with flies and
imperfections to surround us as we part from a life we should've lived to the fullest.
In the end this poem impacts my life not because of what was said or written in "I heard a Fly–when
I died," but because of what happens before this poem takes place. This masterpiece by Dickinson
showed me that life is quick to end and that no force on earth can make a death a cheerful one.
Having been exposed to this morbid point of view it somewhat encourages the reader to push on to
do something meaningful in life seeing that in death there's nothing that can be done to leave an
impact on world left behind. Having experienced

The Impact Of War In A Separate Peace, By John Knowles
Imagine going to war right after graduating high school. How would you feel if you or your friends
had to go to war right after graduating? How do you think a war would impact your life if you had
to go to war right after graduating? War plays a key role in the story, A Separate Peace, by John
Knowles. Throughout A Separate Peace, the outcome of the war is showcased. The impacts of war
can be overwhelming and disheartening but can also be beneficial for some individuals. War is
capable of completely changing an individual's life. In A Separate Peace, this message is seen when
war impacts Phineas, Leper, and Gene remarkably.
To begin, the impact war has on Phineas's life is clearly demonstrable.War has dramatically changed
his life, he views everything in a different perspective and tries to relate almost everything to war.
Phineas jumps off the tree branches into the river because he thinks it helps him prepare for war and
believes it makes him a man. In Devon School, it is forbidden to jump into the river. Despite the fact
that jumping out of the tree is forbidden, Phineas continues to jump out of the tree, showing his
manliness. Phineas believes he has to jump out of the tree "because [he is] getting ready for the war"
(Knowles 22). One particular event when Phineas attempts to jump out of the tree he injures
himself. Phineas would not have got injured if it was not for war. War is what ignites the fire in
Phineas to jump off the tree over and over again. As a result of

The Pros And Cons Of A Hero
Superman, Batman, Ironman, Hulk, Thor, etc. These superheroes were all heroes in the world with a
superpower; however, in reality a hero is much more than having an amazing superpower. All
people have the potential to become a hero, and the traits and actions that make up a hero are inside
each and every one of us. Heroes are all around us in both the modern and past world. These heroes
are created in many ways, but it doesn't take a risky moment, or it doesn't take saving the world to
be a hero. A hero isn't always the strongest human being that risks their life, a hero is someone who
makes a positive impact in someone else's life and overcomes challenges. To begin, Bob Riley said,
"Hard times don't create heroes. It is during the hard times when the 'hero' within us is revealed."
This quote proves how a hero faces hard times, and a hero defeats these obstacles that face him or
her. In addition, there are many examples of heroes in the modern world. These unique heroes in the
world are regular people like you and me. The only difference is, these unique heroes take an extra
step and make a footprint in the world. To make this print, there were, and are many situations and
natural disasters in the word that help bring out these heroes. For example, during the 9/11 attacks
there were dozens of heroes. People from all different backgrounds became a hero saving others'
lives or having a positive impact in a random stranger's life. One hero during this troublesome time

Asteroids Impact On Society
Asteroid Impact Asteroids are rocky objects that move in the "asteroid belt", which is between the
orbit of Mars and Jupiter. Asteroids vary in size, composition, and how they orbit. It is estimated
that more than 100,000 asteroids are orbiting too close to the earth. Asteroid impacts have affected
the Earth remarkably with great damage. Hopefully these impacts will not be as bad in the future.
Clemens Rumpf from University of Southampton, and his associates, speculated the casualties from
an asteroid and how it would impact Earth. These researchers studied the effects it would cause on
Earth by researching, "asteroids that burn up ompletely [sic] before impact, those that hit the ground
and those that strike in water" (Crane 1). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Until 2004, Spaceguard survey astronomers, did not think about the effect of an impact and how
important it is to look for asteroids that can corrupt Earth in the future. In 2004, an asteroid event
took effect on Earth that changed the way the Spaceguard astronomers thought. The first event took
place on, January 14, 2004. This asteroid was named AL00667 and had a twenty–five percent
chance of hitting Earth between thirty–six hours. Even though this asteroid missed Earth by millions
of miles, organizations were formed so there could be warnings for any threatening object that will
affect Earth in the future. The second event that took place was the discovery of Apophis June 19,
2004. Apophis was only imaged for two nights and was later seen by, Gordon Garradd, from the
Siding Spring Observatory, in New South Wales observatory, December 18, 2004. After his
observations of the minor planet, it was predicted that there was a one out of three hundred chance
that Apophis will hit Earth in 2029 by a software at NASA's NEO Program Office and at the
University of Pisa in Italy. The odds continued to decrease as astronomers observed throughout the
years. As 2029 approaches, questions still afloat. Will April 13, 2029 be the end of the world? In
conclusion, Earth has

Cataclysmic Events Causing Mass Extinction
Over 250 million years ago, Earth was struck with an asteroid that wiped out 95% of all species.
This devastating event was followed by another natural disaster when, 50 million years later, a
volcanic eruption caused massive lava floods. The floods triggered the breakup of Pangea, the
original continent. This volcanic eruption created extreme global warming and the extinction of 70%
of marine life. These two examples are not the only times Earth has experienced mass extinction. An
extinction may be viewed as a natural part of evolution that occurs when a large proportion of a
particular species completely dies off and ceases to exist. Extinctions are considered to be mass
extinctions if the number of species becoming extinct is significantly larger than the normal, natural
rate of extinction. These mass extinctions disrupt the entire global community.
Cataclysmic events causing mass extinctions have occurred five times throughout history, each
being caused by a sudden natural phenomenon such as an asteroid or volcano. We are currently in
the midst of a sixth mass extinction, however this time it is not due to asteroids or volcanic
eruptions. This mass extinction has been caused by a much more ... Show more content on

should have, according to the calculated natural rate of extinction (Kaplan 15). It is estimated that at
this current rate of extinction, three–quarters of species could completely disappear from the face of
the Earth within the next several hundred years. (Drake 4). This sixth mass extinction could soon be

Examples Of Heroes In My Life
A hero can be classified into multiple different categories, but to me a hero is someone who impacts
the lives of others for the better. A hero realizes a problem, and tries their hardest to fix that problem.
The heroes in my life are everyone currently trying to fight for equal rights and that are trying to
fight to just be accepted by their peers. The heroes in my life are the struggling families who are still
trying to climb their way to the top so their family could have a better life. The heroes in my life are
the people who come to this country and try to provide a better life for their families and are also
struggling between financial issues and prejudice. Does a hero necessarily need to impact your life
directly?

for the better. The people that have come from countries filled with war and poverty, came to the
U.S. and learned a whole new language, just so their children could have a better life, and have more
opportunities than they have ever had. Although people do not agree with people coming into the
U.S, they still show signs of heroism. They have impacted the lives of their children for the better,
even if that means they need to do extra to be accepted. Not only are these groups of people
mentioned above heroes to me, but also the armed forces have done so much for our country. They
have done so much for us and not a lot of people recognize it on a day to day basis. They have gone,
and are still going through, the thick and thin, putting our country and its people before their lives,
even if they have families at home. The armed forces have greatly impacted my life, and most likely
your life. They are heroes, but they are sometimes overlooked by students, and a lot of the time by

Explaining Dinosaur Extinction
There have been many theories to explain the dinosaur extinction. However, Walter Alvarez and
colleagues had discovered the evidence for dinosaur extinction. They found the rocks laid down
precisely at the K–T boundary contain extraordinary amounts of the metal iridium. And those
materials of the rocks would not normally found on Earth's surface. Then, they discovered those
rocks were asteroids. Scientist discovered the K–T impact crater was deeply buried under in Yucatan
peninsula of Mexico. The crater was 150–kilometer–wide. Scientists calculated that it likely caused
by an object about 6 miles (10 km) across, would have released as much energy as 100 trillion tons
of TNT. (Choi & Contributor, 2016) Moreover, scientists have concluded that

Essay On Fund Asteroid Studies
Should NASA ( National Aeronautics and Space Administration) fund asteroid studies that other
people lead? In my opinion, I think that NASA should fund other asteroid studies because if we are
trying to go to Mars, then we need all the extra help we can get. If we have many people exploring
and learning space, then we can find more about space, maybe go to Mars earlier than we thought,
and be more prepared. NASA should fund asteroid studies because of our safety, resources, and our
competitiveness and currency in the world.
If NASA funds asteroid studies then it will improve our safety because it can help predict when an
asteroid is coming and can protect our society. It also can help our animals and environment survive

Evidence to show how harsh the meteor was to one of our resources is, " Later, when the team
arrived at ground zero, they found the trees there standing upright–but their limbs and bark had been
stripped away. They looked like a forest of telephone poles." (Source: Tunguska Meteor Impact,
paragraph: 5). This is how much damage a meteor can do to our assets.
We can be more competitive and current in the world if NASA helps fund other asteroid studies. If
we get more people to help research, unlock more knowledge about asteroids, and what can help
stand against them, we can be the first to find the piece of technology that prevents them from
hitting Earth. If we are the first country to prevent asteroids we can make more money and start
helping other countries prevent them from impacting Earth. The money also goes to help our
technology more advanced and expand our knowledge. Evidence to show how much we can learn
from our research is, " At 7:17 a.m. (local Siberia time), at a height of about 28,000 feet, the
combination of pressure and heat caused the asteroid to fragment and annihilate itself, producing a
fireball and releasing energy equivalent to about 185 Hiroshima bombs." (Source: Tunguska Meteor
Impact, Para.: 10). If we can be the first country on the moon, then why can't we be the first country
to help prevent asteroids from hitting the Earth's surface?

Sociological Analysis Of The Film 'The Middle School Moment'
Sociological Application
After watching the short film "The Middle School Moment," and hearing the research finding of Dr.
Robert Balfanz, took me by surprise on how serious the issue about kids dropping out is. I found it
shocking in discovering that about 7,000 students dropped out of school everyday. Not only that but
the fact that their personal lives and society play a huge role in their decisions, which schools tend to
ignore. Another thing that I found interesting about the video was the prevention program that was
adopted by Middle School 244 in the Bronx, and how it gave struggling students like Omarina
Cabrera, the opportunity to continue their education after having issues preventing them from
getting a proper education.
In the film many points were made out on the issue of student dropouts and how there are many
contributions, but one that really stood out to me was when Dr. Robert Balfanz made a comment on
how middle school is mostly the stage where dropout students develop habits, leading them to start
skipping school and losing interest of attending. Then they also made the comment in the film how
these kids do want a future, but in order for them to achieve that adults need to do their part by not
only supporting them but also willing to help them along the way. I can definitely agree with that
because kids depend on adults to support them and be guidance along the way, whether they realize
it or not adults have a big impact on students.

Extinction Of Dinosaurs Extinction
The extinction of dinosaurs could have been caused by many different things. One main reason that
is thought around the world is that dinosaurs went extinct because an asteroid fell onto earth at
speeds that are too fast for the human mind to even imagine. This idea was thought when and
asteroid crater was found near mexico. Also to support the facts many scientist found traces of rare
metal onto the earth's surface. This metal is not very common here but is really common in outer
space. Today we will be looking at why these huge creatures died of the face of the planet in just a
matter of months.
One reason, these greatebeastes were exterminated was that they alter the asteroid hit the ground a
huge ball of dust and debris was sent into the earth. This dust covered the earth in just a matter of
hours. This was crucial to their extinction because the sun was blocked plants did not receive and
sun light and herbivorous ( plant eating animals) could not get any food from the plants because
most of the plants died. This was just one of the first reasons that the dinosaur race was wiped of
this earth. You may ask how big the asteroid had to be, well put it into perspective the asteroid was
about the size of 110 empire state buildings and had the weight of 211,000 empire states buildings
put together. This asteroid was the biggest asteroid to ever hit earth that we know of. This big of a
hit throw 70 billion tons of soot out of the earth and that dust polluted the skies. If

How Does Hannah And Clay's Dual Narrative Enhance The Story
1. How does Hannah and Clay's dual narrative enhance the story? What additional details are

if the book was written from one of the other peoples perspectives instead of Clay's?
Hannah and Clays dual narrative enhances the story by revealing perspective that would otherwise
remain hidden. For example whenever Clay uses Hannas map it reminds him of a personal
experience and Hannas cassete tapes provide insight to what actually happened instead of
schoolwide rumours that Clay may have heard. The story would have been a very different book, for
example the story from Clays' perspective Hannah might not have appeared as much of a victim

page could ever reach. Fans love knowing what the players on their favorite team is doing off the
court. Lebron James has created a segment he uses through the Bleacher Report application called
"Uninterrupted" where he has short video clips reaching out to the fans on recent events. I believe if
the Lakers used this strategy they would be able to generate even more of an interest since fans
would be able to see a player's genuine reaction than just of a reaction facing the media. My last
recommendation would be for the Lakers to strengthen their main weakness by using each social
media tool to its individual strength. While Facebook can stay informative since it executes all
strategies with only one tool. Their Instagram can be used better by continuing the "I am LA"
campaign, then adding an "Uninterrupted" like segment. On Twitter, instead of tweeting the same
information as other social tools, they can show a little more personality while they live tweet
during the game. If they were to create more of a balance of informative and entertainment instead

Published on March 9, 2005 by Robert Roy Britt there is a new theory that explains how the meteor
crater near Winslow Arizona was formed. The asteroid that created the crater is believed to have
been traveling much slower than originally thought. The article suggests that the meteor was
traveling at speeds greater than ten time the speed of a bullet shot from a rifle. The main mystery
surrounding this impact event concerns the fact that the liquefied rock in the crater is significantly
less than anticipated because of the impact. The size of the crater measures a depth of 570 feet with
a diameter of 4,100 feet. The crater was created approximately fifty thousand years ago

On February 15 2013 a meteor streaked across sky and exploded over Chelyabinsk, Russia. It set off
one of the largest explosion of its kind, according to Western scientists. Flying glass and debris
caused most of the injuries from the meteor strike. The shock wave violently jolted the city of
Chelyabinsk. Coincidently, it hit on the same day that astronomers were watching another large rock
pass Earth by just 17,200 miles. As it turns out, the Earth getting hit by meteorites isn't so unusual.
The meteor was most likely made of stony materials and not solid metal. The meteor exploded 12 to

Mostly they land in the ocean. So it's not necessarily a top news story. The average meteorite enters
the atmosphere and burns up. The largest meteors rapidly slow down because of atmospheric
friction and hit the Earth's surface. However meteorites larger than a few hundred tons are slowed
very little and make large craters. Calculations based on the observed number of asteroids suggest
that we should expect about 3 large meteors to hit the Earth every million years. This is in good
agreement with the geologic record. It is more difficult to compute the frequency of larger impacts
but once per 100 million years seems like a reasonable guess.
People recorded this meteor strike which made it so unusual. In Russia, an estimated one million
motorists have dash cams in their cars. The dash cameras are popular for one big reason: ensuring
justice when they have an accident while driving. Last year, the newspaper Al Jazeera spoke with
motorists who drove with cameras. One driver said "that police officers are only on the roads to take

them, a camera will save you from false accusations. The motorists went on to say, "In Russia,
everyone should have a camera on their dashboard. It's better than keeping a lead pipe under your

Theme Of Through The Tunnel
People often learn a lot about themselves through their own decisions and struggles. "Through the
Tunnel" by Doris Lessing is about an eleven–year–old boy named Jerry. During vacation in France,
the boy and his mother enjoy themselves daily by the shore. The boy wants to imitate the French
boys who swim through a challenging tunnel, and he overcomes this challenge eventually. Form the
safe beach to the tunnel, Jerry's maturity is tested. The setting in "Through the Tunnel" has an
impact on the characters, the plot, and the symbols.
One way the setting has an impact involves the characters. For example, it is so important for Jerry
to swim through the tunnel. He wanted to be with the older boys and be grown up. Every day on his
vacation he would tell himself something very specific. "On the day before they left, he would do
it." (4) Jerry kept reminding himself that he must go through the tunnel. He never gave up practicing
swimming to the tunnel, but always kept trying. Even though there are times where he left like he is
not going to make it. Another example is even though Jerry is alone, he still wanted to make sure his

Holocaust Reflection
Films are a powerful outlet to spread information about a specific event that ay have or is going to
happen. Directors are given the power to catch the attention of an audience through various different
techniques and allow them to demonstrate the point that they are wanting the audience to walk away
with. When reviewing the films that were provided for us in this course which included Night and
Fog, Son of Saul, and Shoah, I was able to immediately select a scene from each that impacted me
in immense ways and provide me with memories that will continue to have an outlasting impact and
influence on the way that I view the events of the Holocaust.
Though all of these films had countless impactful scenes that caused the views to reflect, I chose one
from each that truly had an outlasting affect on me as an individual. First, from the movie Night and
Fog, I chose the scene that described what the hospitals in the camp were like. This scene impacted
me the most because it discussed how the victims thought that they were going in to recieve help to
assist them in healing and bettering their health, but in reality they were being brought closer to
death. A quote from this scene that summed up the reality of the hospitals was: "The building gave
the illusion of a real hospital and hope of finding a real bed, but delivered the real risk of death by
syringe. The medicines are make–believe. The dressings are mere paper. The same ointment is used
on every sore and for every

Developing A Way To Study Asteroids
It has always been a worry of researchers that at any moment an asteroid may hit Earth and cause
significant damage. Only recently (the past hundred years or so) have people been able to make
equipment powerful enough to detect asteroids coming toward Earth and orbiting Earth. This is a
very important step in preventing damage to our fragile planet. One of the first asteroids orbiting
Earth discovered was 1 Ceres by Piazzi in 1801 (Gehrels, 1999). Since all of the asteroids back in
the 1800's were found just by looking up at the sky, it was a very slow going process finding them.
In 1891, Max Wolf decided that taking pictures of the asteroids would be a more efficient way of
keeping track of them. He was correct. Just looking up at the night's sky was not good enough to see
the asteroids (even with the lack of light pollution at the time). Taking a photo would not only help
to see the asteroids better, but it would also help to find and identify any other objects that may have
been in space at the time. In the 1900's asteroids were referred to as "minor planets". Around this
time there were places in Berlin that would use available technology to compute the orbits of these
asteroids. In 1957, scientists measured the very first cosmic ray exposure age of an asteroid
(Gehrels, 1999). This is the time from which the asteroid breaks off from its place of origin to the
time it reaches Earth. On June 30, 1908 above Siberia, an asteroid exploded in the sky. It was

MAGMA CONTAMINATION AND SULFIDE IMMISCIBILITY OF THE METEORIC IMPACT
ZONE IN THE SUDBURY NI–CU DEPOSITS: ONTARIO, CANADA
WILLIAMS, Jane B. (University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire, willijan@uwec.edu)
Sudbury, Canada is the location of a world class Ni–Cu deposit phenomena. Numerous studies have
produced an explanation for the complex evolution of its deposition and enrichment thanks to the
impaction of a meteorite 1.85 million years ago. The impact of the meteorite is thought to have
caused fracturing that led to the generation of magma from deep in the crust that helped in later
filling the crater and producing the igneous complex (Faggart et. al., 1985). The igneous complex
(Figure 1a) has an elongated shape (60 km long and 27 km wide) with circular deposits surrounding
it similar to a bulls–eye. Evidence of the meteoric impact includes brecciation located in the center
of the basin (Onaping Formation), deformation of the margin of the intrusive complex (Huronian
Group), shatter cones, and pseudotachylite. The meteor is thought to have flash melted the crust
which proceeded to differentiate into a granophyre and a leuconorite to norite composition. The
granophyre makes up 60% of the complex and the leuconorite and norite make up the remaining
40% (Figure 1b)(Barnes et. al., 2005). About 50% of the ore is found in the sublayer norite and the
breccia that is associated with the norite. This ore is mainly disseminated sulphides. The massive
sulphides are located in the center

Outside Stressors In Schools Case Study
These findings supported my hypothesis. In the case of the first hypothesis of where the more time a
person spent towards their outside stressors, the greater impact it would have on school work. The
results showed that participants, who contributed more time to outside responsibilities, were more
likely to feel as if they were being negatively impacted by it. There is one outlier to this in the case
of the one student, mother who works 40 hours. This woman was the eldest participant, which may
lead to the assumption that with age came more experience at balancing out the extra
responsibilities. In the case of my second hypothesis, which was an extension of my 1st, when
participants had multiple extra responsibilities, they were more inclined to feel they were being
negatively affected. Overall across all the data, when participants had to balance out two or more
outside stressors, they felt their schoolwork was being negatively impacted. In conclusion, the
results were in line with the hypothesis. Whether the stressor was work, childcare or sports each had
some sort of an impact on schoolwork performance. The best way for this hypothesis to be fully
analyzed would be by comparing this to a controlled group, which did not fall into any of these
categories. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One category in particular was difficult to obtain. As society changes less and less people are having
children at young ages. This contributed to the lack of participants who had children to be included

their own stressors, the demands of graduate or even medical school may be far greater for some.
Had this sample been given to a sample of those seeking higher education more participants would
have had negative impacts. Another key contributor received from an older sample would be the

How Does The New Culture Affect Umuofia
The village beauty was always strong willed and audacious. She was what many other women
aspired to be. In fact, even the notorious, masculine Okonkwo wanted her in her youth– but he
couldn't pay her bride price. This woman was so ambitious that she fled her first husband to live
with Okonkwo after he beat the infamous Cat. Ekwefi became Okonkwo's second wife due to her
ambition, and this began her journey through life with him. However, when a new culture spread its
plague upon the traditions of Umuofia, her life changed dramatically. The village beauty had seemed
to lose everything, but the people she lost and things she had to go through seemed to only make her
stronger. Because of this, the new culture being introduced to Umuofia impacts Ekwefi in a positive
way. Towards the beginning of the book, Ekwefi tells Ezinma the story of a clever tortoise who
tricks a flock of birds into guiding him into the sky for a glorious feast all to himself. He convinces
them to change their names, and the tortoise ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since the women of Umuofia are raised to follow men, Ekwefi must fall into this category.
However, Ekwefi is not a typical woman in this culture. She has more strength and ambitious will,

she does so with her own sense of self–regard. This must mean that Ekwefi does follow traditions
and customs of the tribe, however, with her own falsifiability. According to this idea, this would also
mean that after Okonkwo committed suicide, Ekwefi no longer had anything to follow. She was
forced to build on her free will in order to find herself and understand how to continue living
seemingly alone in a changing tribe. By doing this, Ekwefi has become even stronger, showing that
the new culture impacting the village of Umuofia has impacted her

If Asteroids Were To End The World
Charli McConnell

How is the world going to end? Surely this is not a question that goes through everyday minds, but it
is a big question. If the world were to end right now, how would it happen? How would it affect
families, countries, civilizations? Would you react in a rational or irrational way as the world falls to
pieces around you. If a 9 mile wide asteroid were to cause an apocalyptic event, whether it hits the
earth or moon, it would cause many natural disasters to happen that would destroy the world as we
know it. It has already happened before, but not in any human's lifetime. It is believed that sixty–
five million years ago a large asteroid impacted the earth, causing a huge influence on the extinction
of dinosaurs. "Asteroids typically top the list of extraterrestrial objects that could hit Earth. A 9–mile

Since they do fall to earth a lot, "asteroids typically top the list of extraterrestrial objects that could
hit Earth" (Hernandez, 2012, p. 1). This is true but an asteroid would have to be pretty big in order
for it to cause mass destruction.
R.A. Kerr says in the 2002 article A Little Respect for the Asteroid Threat,
"At a NASA–sponsored workshop... researchers heard mixed tidings about the asteroid threat. The
good news is that the search for civilization ending asteroids seems to have passed the halfway point
and is on track to reach NASA's goal of detecting 90% of them before the end of the decade" (p.
1785).
With this information it seems that the probability of detecting an asteroid falling to earth is pretty
high, but what if the technology does not function properly? Would we still be prepared?

Mass Extinction Of Dinosaurs
The mass extinction of the Dinosaurs has been a subject of interest and dispute for many scientists
over the years. There are many different theories on what happened to them: did some planetary
destruction happen, did they die out, were they wiped out, or was it the cause of something not of
this planet. This question and this need to solve the mysteries of the world has continued to draw
scientists in for the never–ending search for the answer. Scientists have worked tirelessly in an
attempt to discover the truth, and their hard work has warranted some results. In Mexico in the
Turquoise waters, scientists have discovered a crater where they believe an asteroid or comet struck
earth which helped cause one of the largest mass extinctions in the history of our planet. They call it,
Chicxulub, and they know of it as the killer of dinosaurs. They found evidence of this event first in
the layers of rock in the earth. Scientists discovered that when you look at the different layers of
rock that depict the history of our planet certain fossils just stopped showing up. The discovery was
that at some point certain living creatures on this planet simply no longer lived to create fossils. A
discovery made by scientists in the 1980s showed there were large deposits of Iridium in the earth
during the time all these creatures suddenly disappeared. Iridium is not that common on this earth,
but it is common on asteroids; thus the belief of the steroid hitting earth. Scientists believe

Tragedy in Antigone by Sophocles and Blackfish
Karl Marx, the German philosopher, once said "History repeats itself, first as tragedy, second as
farce." For me, this quote clearly describes the overarching relationship between Blackfish and
Antigone. This analogy starts with Antigone, written about an oppressed woman against the fists of
tyranny. That early in history woman's rights was often taboo at places, and democracy was only
recently established. Yet, Antigone went against the norm by focusing on a heroine that challenged
male authority and nobility, thus making it revolutionary. Now, an unbelievably eye–opening
documentary, Blackfish has been produced about a "company–despot" that values money over life
and recognition over morals. In this story, the life of a killer–whale ... Show more content on

Blackfish, on the other hand, was created with the goal to change society in mind, and did this by
pressing a recent, overlooked problem to the audience. As this was set in current times, it directly
affected many of us. My own money has been used for SeaWorld and its attractions, and after
finding out how they have used the money, it has helped accredit for some of my new found dissent
towards the company. As a documentary, it presented many graphic and touching scenes that were
awfully traumatic. These powerful scenes struck nerves for many, as it was hard to take in, and have
helped Blackfish garner national and international attention. Sadly, many people still don't know
what is happening behind the scenes, and are still being exploited because of this. I am thankful for
Blackfish, as it will ensure that I won't ever be taken advantage of by SeaWorld. By using strong
examples and imagery to prove a point against a nationally acclaimed and visited company,
Blackfish has swayed me, alongside my heart, to choose it as more impacting.
More important than historical backgrounds or impacts to society (for me), is how both stories
impacted myself. Antigone started by opening my eyes to the calamities of Greek drama. It gave me
crucial insights to the lives of the past people: the ever–lasting importance of religion from their

Why Do Mammals Survive The Execution Of Dinosaurs?
Have you ever wondered how the mammals survived the massive execution of the dinosaurs? It is
strange since one of the most dominant species became extinct and one of the smaller species like
the mammals were able to survive this event. Some people said it was because they were fast
enough to get away or lucky enough to get away, but both of those are false. Since these were pre–
historic times we can't be hundred percent sure that these pieces of evidence are not fully true, but
aren't truly false to. Now let's go back into time and figure out this mystere.
A way that the early mammals could have survived the execution is by hiding in burrows and
aquatic environments. Now how this helped them is because the burrows and environments they
lived in was able to block them from the heat from the impact. On the Article "Why did the
mammals survived the 'K/T extinction' news.psu.edu it says "Underground burrows and aquatic
environments protected small mammals from the brief but drastic rise in temperature." This shows
us one of the few reasons why the mammals were able to survive that massive execution from 65
million years ago. The mammals most likely stayed in their for a few days untiled the heat died

Causes Of The Mass Extinction Of Dinosaurs
We know that there is evidence that dinosaurs once roamed the earth. The only thing dinosaurs left
behind is their bones that has helped us learn more about them like what they might have looked
like, what they ate, and where they lived but the biggest mystery that still has not been explained is,
what exactly caused this mass extinction of dinosaurs to be wiped off the face of the earth?
Dinosaurs lived for 165 millions years until 66 million years ago when they went extinct. In this
mass extinction 70 percent of species including dinosaurs, plants, and ocean animals were hit the
hardest and caused them to die. In the ocean organisms like foraminifera that are single celled

My belief is that both the asteroid and ice age theory played a big role as to when the dinosaurs had
become extinct. After the meteor had hit the earth, some of the dinosaurs and other life did die from
the impact causing the destruction to the land on the earth and to the environment causing them to
die off because of bad air quality, the loss of photosynthesis, and the little food there was for their
survival. The others that had stayed alive would have probably migrated to other areas on earth
where it was least affected and livable for the dinosaurs to live in and continue to live their lives for
many years to come before they too eventually died off. Since the meteor was very large and
powerful, it could have done some damage to the earth but of course it didn't because it is still here
but it could have tilted earth's axis in which it slowly affected the climate change. This was probably
the start of the ice age slowly coming together. Eventually the dinosaurs that did survive starting
feeling the effects of low dropping temperatures in the new climate change, something that they
were not used to before because they were cold blooded animals and needed the sun to keep their
bodies warm. Eventually the low temperatures caused ice to form on the North and South poles
making the oceans colder and possibly freezing the oceans. The dinosaurs would not be able to

How Football Changed My Life Essay
As the ball is spinning through the air on that frigid, airy night, it's like a momentary pause as we all

My Memories A Favorite Memory
An individual's childhood memory has impacted them in some way whether it be emotionally or
physically. From one memory to another, good or bad, develops the entity of a person's personality
or logic. I considered one of my worst memories a favorite memory because, from that experience, I
gained development as an individual. The start of that development occurred on vacation without
my parents attending. Like any other child, I became very enthusiastic of the whole idea of freedom
and self–guidance. After the majority of the trip, I became uninterested with self–guidance and I
wanted to rely on the adults to plan fun–filled activities. I was very disappointed with the fact that
their lack of authority and action lead to an uneventful vacation. I began to miss my parents'
guidance because with every request or action they took it was in all the best interest of me. Whether
it was to hold my hand across the road or watch the things I eat, all of it was intended for my growth
and safety. It was then that I realized how much my parents really cared for me and it made me grow
to respect their wishes even more. Concisely what began as a getaway from my parents resulted in a
realization of how much I should appreciate and respect them.

In the Heart of Darkness you see a lot about Africa in the 1900s through an imperialistic view

nobody really picks up on. Women in the Heart of Darkness played more of a role in the book than

women in advanced areas of the worlds have always been fighting for equal rights. When you take a

The Positive Aspects Of Heros In The Modern World
Superman, Batman, Ironman, Hulk, Thor, etc. All 'heroes' in the world, but not just superheroes are
'heroes'. Everyone has the potential to become a hero, and heroism traits are a part of everyone. A
hero isn't always the strongest human being that risks their life, a hero is someone who makes a
positive impact in someone else's life and overcomes challenges. Bob Riley said, "Hard times don't
create heroes. It is during the hard times when the 'hero' within us is revealed." This quote proves
how a hero faces these hard times and defeats these obstacles that face them. There are many
examples of heroes in the modern world. These people that become unique heroes are regular people
like you and me. The only difference is, these unique heroes take an extra step and make a footprint
in the world. There were, and are many situations and natural disasters in the word that help bring
out these heroes. For example, there were dozens of heroes during the 9/11 attacks. People from all
different backgrounds became a hero saving other lives and making a difference in random
stranger's life. One hero during this hard time in America was known as the man in the red bandana.
He obtained this nickname because he wore a red bandana to cover his mouth and lungs while
helping others. He worked on the 104th floor and saved dozens rescuing them and accompanying
them down to safety. On September 11, the man in red in bandana had positive impacts on others by

Cheryl's Journey Character Analysis
To hike the PCT, one would need to have three things: experience of hiking, knowledge of survival,
and the drive to continue forward. When Cheryl set foot on the trail, she knew nothing of hiking
besides a few basic skills she was taught by her step–father. She suffered from her lack of
knowledge until she met these three people. One of these characters was an elderly man named
Albert. His role as mentor was brief yet the one of the most notable throughout Cheryl's journey.
Albert is a seasoned hiker who Cheryl met on the way to her first checkpoint. At first he teased her
about the size of her backpack then proceeded to ask her about her health (Strayed 93). The scene
that presented Albert's role as one of her mentors was in Chapter 7, "...feeling as if I were taking a
test that I was bound to fail. When I was done, Albert returned and methodically unpacked my pack.
He placed each item in one of two piles–one to go back into my pack, another to go into the now–

Inherit The Wind Quotes

  • 1. Inherit The Wind Quotes In the play, Inherit the Wind by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee, the character of Bertram Cates causes the most amount of conflict and impact on his society. He teaches about evolution, so he starts the heated argument on his punishment, and how he impacted the people with his actions In the beginning of the play Inherit the Wind, the character of Cates causes much conflict by teaching to his class of students about Darwin's theory of evolution in the little town of Hillsboro. Back when this play actually happened on the exact date of July 21, 1925, in America, it was illegal to teach public schools about Darwin's theory of evolution. But Bertram Cates decided to take matters into his own hands and teach it to his students. As it says on Scene 1, Act 1, Cates confesses, "I had the book in my hand, I opened it up, and read my sophomore science class Chapter 17, Darwin's Origin of Species." Therefore, he was challenged by the god of lawyers, lawyer and temporary Colonel Matthew Harrison Brady to fight for Hillsboro, a God–loving county, against him. But Cates has his own titan to fight for him, lawyer and also temporary Colonel Henry Drummond. In act 1, scene one, E.K Hornbeck states, "And the most agile mind of the Twentieth Century, Henry Drummond." This quote shows that Matthew Harrison Brady has his work cut out for him, a reporter says how mighty Drummond will be. So this would have to a extremely heated court about what should happen to Cates. And it happened. A 2 day trial containing yelling, a judge with an actual gavel, and even the press showed up because of the significance of this court. The court has swirled the boiling pot of conflict within the city of Hillsboro, making ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. Surviving Dinosaur Extinction The species that survived the dinosaur extinction are believed to be what life on this planet is descended from. Aligators, crocodiles, lizards and snakes are among the reptiles that survived what dinosaurs couldn't. Birds also survived, and are the only descendants of dinosaurs that survived the mass extinction other than lizards. Frogs and salamanders are among the few small amphibians that survived. Mammals also survived and they are the largest group to survive the extinction. Over 50% of the world's population were thought to have died out in the course of this event. Many species became extinct, some of these were marine reptiles, big amphibians, some reef–building creatures and some cephalopod molluscs. Some possible theories for extinction ... • 5. Taking a Look at Tunguska Explosion In June of 1908, a fireball descended towards Earth leaving a fiery white trail in its path. It landed in Siberia but it wasn't like any other asteroid. This one appeared to have exploded in mid air causing Hiroshima like effects. There is no evidence that it hit Earth, but there is a crater shaped lake about five miles from where the suspected spot it landed. The fire ball left thousands of trees on fire, seemingly blowing over millions. This force killed local people as well as animals and there is only one thing that we can conclude about it... it was an asteroid. At exactly 7:17 A.M. local time on June 30,1908 an asteroid came plummeting down toward Earth's surface. This occurrence happened around the Podkamennaya Tunguska River in Russia. "Recent scientific studies by meteorite researcher Christopher Chyba have estimated that the Tunguska event may have been caused by the explosion of a stony meteorite about 30 meters in diameter traveling at about 15 km/s. Compare the energy released by such an object with that of an atomic bomb such as those dropped on Japan in World War II." (Planetary Science Institute) Although it took scientists many years after the explosion to get out to the suspected site of where it landed, they are not able to find any evidence of it hitting Earth. Reports have been taken about the effects of the explosion. They have done things that would have been thought impossible."One older man at about this distance was reportedly blown ... • 7. The Cretaceous-Tertiary Mass Extinction The age of the planet Earth is estimated to be about four point six billion years old. Life on Earth is estimated to have started one billion years later. Evolution has taken place since then. Evolving life from simple forms into more complex forms through the course of time. It all began with single celled organisms, prokaryotes. Later evolving in a period of two hundred million years, cyanobacteria began to produce photosynthesis. And life went on, evolving, adapting to its home. However through this course of time, mass extinctions have taken place on planet Earth. One of the most recent mass extinctions, has as a matter of fact left various amounts of evidence of the creatures which roamed the Earth at that time. Such magnificent creatures which varied from a very small size to giant sizes. Creatures which are now known to humanity as dinosaurs. The name of this extinction was the Cretaceous–Tertiary Mass Extinction. This extinction took place roughly sixty five million years ago. It has not been too long since this incident compared to the life span of the Earth. And yet it is still unclear how this extinction occurred. Paleontologists to this day, debate on how this extinction occurred. A major factor on what caused this extinction to occur was an impact of an asteroid. Another theory such as sea level regression is considered to be the blame for the extinction. Sea level regression is the drop of sea levels which aids to explain the marine mass extinction, however ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Emily Dickinson : A Comparison Of Death Emily Dickinson is one of Americas greatest and most original poets of all time. Over the span of her lifetime she came to compose many poems that pertained to the topic of death, which made it seem as if she had an almost morbid fascination with the subject. Her poems "I heard a Fly buzz – when I died", and "Because I could not stop for death–" are some of the many poems that she wrote on this ghastly topic. Even though the poems are somewhat similar with the main focus being death from different viewpoints, I personally believe that "I heard a Fly buzz–when I died" was more of a powerful and impacting poem for various reasons. In Dickinson's "Because I could not stop for Death–" she mentions death as a person stopping for the character ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This shows that death isn't serene or content as shown in "Because I could not stop for death–," but that it's scary and lonely showing the realistic aspect of death and the weight that it carries. In the last stanza of "I heard a Fly–when I died" we can see how Dickinson's approach to fatality has a more serious, realistic, and cold tone "With Blue–uncertain stumbling Buzz–/Between the light– and me–/And then the Windows failed–and then/I could not see to see." This is what I believe makes this poem so powerful, the fact that it shows that death has no persona, and that it has no calm or swift aftermath. I admire this piece by Dickinson because it shows us that death isn't gentle nor compassionate; it doesn't give us nice endings with beautiful sceneries, but cold truths with flies and imperfections to surround us as we part from a life we should've lived to the fullest. In the end this poem impacts my life not because of what was said or written in "I heard a Fly–when I died," but because of what happens before this poem takes place. This masterpiece by Dickinson showed me that life is quick to end and that no force on earth can make a death a cheerful one. Having been exposed to this morbid point of view it somewhat encourages the reader to push on to do something meaningful in life seeing that in death there's nothing that can be done to leave an impact on world left behind. • 11. The Impact Of War In A Separate Peace, By John Knowles Imagine going to war right after graduating high school. How would you feel if you or your friends had to go to war right after graduating? How do you think a war would impact your life if you had to go to war right after graduating? War plays a key role in the story, A Separate Peace, by John Knowles. Throughout A Separate Peace, the outcome of the war is showcased. The impacts of war can be overwhelming and disheartening but can also be beneficial for some individuals. War is capable of completely changing an individual's life. In A Separate Peace, this message is seen when war impacts Phineas, Leper, and Gene remarkably. To begin, the impact war has on Phineas's life is clearly demonstrable.War has dramatically changed his life, he views everything in a different perspective and tries to relate almost everything to war. Phineas jumps off the tree branches into the river because he thinks it helps him prepare for war and believes it makes him a man. In Devon School, it is forbidden to jump into the river. Despite the fact that jumping out of the tree is forbidden, Phineas continues to jump out of the tree, showing his manliness. Phineas believes he has to jump out of the tree "because [he is] getting ready for the war" (Knowles 22). One particular event when Phineas attempts to jump out of the tree he injures himself. Phineas would not have got injured if it was not for war. War is what ignites the fire in Phineas to jump off the tree over and over again. As a result of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. The Pros And Cons Of A Hero Superman, Batman, Ironman, Hulk, Thor, etc. These superheroes were all heroes in the world with a superpower; however, in reality a hero is much more than having an amazing superpower. All people have the potential to become a hero, and the traits and actions that make up a hero are inside each and every one of us. Heroes are all around us in both the modern and past world. These heroes are created in many ways, but it doesn't take a risky moment, or it doesn't take saving the world to be a hero. A hero isn't always the strongest human being that risks their life, a hero is someone who makes a positive impact in someone else's life and overcomes challenges. To begin, Bob Riley said, "Hard times don't create heroes. It is during the hard times when the 'hero' within us is revealed." This quote proves how a hero faces hard times, and a hero defeats these obstacles that face him or her. In addition, there are many examples of heroes in the modern world. These unique heroes in the world are regular people like you and me. The only difference is, these unique heroes take an extra step and make a footprint in the world. To make this print, there were, and are many situations and natural disasters in the word that help bring out these heroes. For example, during the 9/11 attacks there were dozens of heroes. People from all different backgrounds became a hero saving others' lives or having a positive impact in a random stranger's life. One hero during this troublesome time in ... • 15. Asteroids Impact On Society Asteroid Impact Asteroids are rocky objects that move in the "asteroid belt", which is between the orbit of Mars and Jupiter. Asteroids vary in size, composition, and how they orbit. It is estimated that more than 100,000 asteroids are orbiting too close to the earth. Asteroid impacts have affected the Earth remarkably with great damage. Hopefully these impacts will not be as bad in the future. Clemens Rumpf from University of Southampton, and his associates, speculated the casualties from an asteroid and how it would impact Earth. These researchers studied the effects it would cause on Earth by researching, "asteroids that burn up ompletely [sic] before impact, those that hit the ground and those that strike in water" (Crane 1). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Until 2004, Spaceguard survey astronomers, did not think about the effect of an impact and how important it is to look for asteroids that can corrupt Earth in the future. In 2004, an asteroid event took effect on Earth that changed the way the Spaceguard astronomers thought. The first event took place on, January 14, 2004. This asteroid was named AL00667 and had a twenty–five percent chance of hitting Earth between thirty–six hours. Even though this asteroid missed Earth by millions of miles, organizations were formed so there could be warnings for any threatening object that will affect Earth in the future. The second event that took place was the discovery of Apophis June 19, 2004. Apophis was only imaged for two nights and was later seen by, Gordon Garradd, from the Siding Spring Observatory, in New South Wales observatory, December 18, 2004. After his observations of the minor planet, it was predicted that there was a one out of three hundred chance that Apophis will hit Earth in 2029 by a software at NASA's NEO Program Office and at the University of Pisa in Italy. The odds continued to decrease as astronomers observed throughout the years. As 2029 approaches, questions still afloat. Will April 13, 2029 be the end of the world? In conclusion, Earth has ... • 17. Cataclysmic Events Causing Mass Extinction Over 250 million years ago, Earth was struck with an asteroid that wiped out 95% of all species. This devastating event was followed by another natural disaster when, 50 million years later, a volcanic eruption caused massive lava floods. The floods triggered the breakup of Pangea, the original continent. This volcanic eruption created extreme global warming and the extinction of 70% of marine life. These two examples are not the only times Earth has experienced mass extinction. An extinction may be viewed as a natural part of evolution that occurs when a large proportion of a particular species completely dies off and ceases to exist. Extinctions are considered to be mass extinctions if the number of species becoming extinct is significantly larger than the normal, natural rate of extinction. These mass extinctions disrupt the entire global community. Cataclysmic events causing mass extinctions have occurred five times throughout history, each being caused by a sudden natural phenomenon such as an asteroid or volcano. We are currently in the midst of a sixth mass extinction, however this time it is not due to asteroids or volcanic eruptions. This mass extinction has been caused by a much more ... There are still many undiscovered species in the far reaches of our forests and in the darkest depths of our oceans. It is estimated that at this current rate of extinction, three–quarters of species could completely disappear from the face of the Earth within the next several hundred years. (Drake 4). • 19. Examples Of Heroes In My Life A hero can be classified into multiple different categories, but to me a hero is someone who impacts the lives of others for the better. A hero realizes a problem, and tries their hardest to fix that problem. They found the rocks laid down precisely at the K–T boundary contain extraordinary amounts of the metal iridium. And those materials of the rocks would not normally found on Earth's surface. Then, they discovered those rocks were asteroids. Scientist discovered the K–T impact crater was deeply buried under in Yucatan peninsula of Mexico. The crater was 150–kilometer–wide. Scientists calculated that it likely caused by an object about 6 miles (10 km) across, would have released as much energy as 100 trillion tons of TNT. In my opinion, I think that NASA should fund other asteroid studies because if we are trying to go to Mars, then we need all the extra help we can get. If we have many people exploring and learning space, then we can find more about space, maybe go to Mars earlier than we thought, and be more prepared. NASA should fund asteroid studies because of our safety, resources, and our competitiveness and currency in the world. If NASA funds asteroid studies then it will improve our safety because it can help predict when an asteroid is coming and can protect our society. We can be more competitive and current in the world if NASA helps fund other asteroid studies. If we get more people to help research, unlock more knowledge about asteroids, and what can help stand against them, we can be the first to find the piece of technology that prevents them from hitting Earth. If we are the first country to prevent asteroids we can make more money and start helping other countries prevent them from impacting Earth. Sociological Analysis Of The Film 'The Middle School Moment' Sociological Application After watching the short film "The Middle School Moment," and hearing the research finding of Dr. Robert Balfanz, took me by surprise on how serious the issue about kids dropping out is. I found it shocking in discovering that about 7,000 students dropped out of school everyday. Not only that but the fact that their personal lives and society play a huge role in their decisions, which schools tend to ignore. Another thing that I found interesting about the video was the prevention program that was adopted by Middle School 244 in the Bronx, and how it gave struggling students like Omarina Cabrera, the opportunity to continue their education after having issues preventing them from getting a proper education. In the film many points were made out on the issue of student dropouts and how there are many contributions, but one that really stood out to me was when Dr. Robert Balfanz made a comment on how middle school is mostly the stage where dropout students develop habits, leading them to start skipping school and losing interest of attending. Then they also made the comment in the film how these kids do want a future, but in order for them to achieve that adults need to do their part by not only supporting them but also willing to help them along the way. I can definitely agree with that because kids depend on adults to support them and be guidance along the way, whether they realize it or not adults have a big impact on students. I can't exactly ... • 27. Extinction Of Dinosaurs Extinction The extinction of dinosaurs could have been caused by many different things. One main reason that is thought around the world is that dinosaurs went extinct because an asteroid fell onto earth at speeds that are too fast for the human mind to even imagine. This idea was thought when and asteroid crater was found near mexico. Also to support the facts many scientist found traces of rare metal onto the earth's surface. This metal is not very common here but is really common in outer space. Today we will be looking at why these huge creatures died of the face of the planet in just a matter of months. One reason, these greatebeastes were exterminated was that they alter the asteroid hit the ground a huge ball of dust and debris was sent into the earth. This dust covered the earth in just a matter of hours. This was crucial to their extinction because the sun was blocked plants did not receive and sun light and herbivorous ( plant eating animals) could not get any food from the plants because most of the plants died. This was just one of the first reasons that the dinosaur race was wiped of this earth. You may ask how big the asteroid had to be, well put it into perspective the asteroid was about the size of 110 empire state buildings and had the weight of 211,000 empire states buildings put together. This asteroid was the biggest asteroid to ever hit earth that we know of. This big of a hit throw 70 billion tons of soot out of the earth and that dust polluted the skies. If ... What additional details are revealed through this method of storytelling that might have otherwise remained secret if the bookhad only been written from from one of their perspectives? How might the story have changed if the book was written from one of the other peoples perspectives instead of Clay's? Hannah and Clays dual narrative enhances the story by revealing perspective that would otherwise remain hidden. For example whenever Clay uses Hannas map it reminds him of a personal experience and Hannas cassete tapes provide insight to what actually happened instead of schoolwide rumours that Clay may have heard. The story would have been a very different book, for example the story from Clays' perspective Hannah might not have appeared as much of a victim because Clay wouldnt have known the "Thirteen Reasons Why" she killed herself. Lebron James has created a segment he uses through the Bleacher Report application called "Uninterrupted" where he has short video clips reaching out to the fans on recent events. I believe if the Lakers used this strategy they would be able to generate even more of an interest since fans would be able to see a player's genuine reaction than just of a reaction facing the media. The asteroid that created the crater is believed to have been traveling much slower than originally thought. The article suggests that the meteor was traveling at speeds greater than ten time the speed of a bullet shot from a rifle. The main mystery surrounding this impact event concerns the fact that the liquefied rock in the crater is significantly less than anticipated because of the impact. It set off one of the largest explosion of its kind, according to Western scientists. Flying glass and debris caused most of the injuries from the meteor strike. The shock wave violently jolted the city of Chelyabinsk. Coincidently, it hit on the same day that astronomers were watching another large rock pass Earth by just 17,200 miles. As it turns out, the Earth getting hit by meteorites isn't so unusual. The meteor was most likely made of stony materials and not solid metal. The largest meteors rapidly slow down because of atmospheric friction and hit the Earth's surface. However meteorites larger than a few hundred tons are slowed very little and make large craters. Calculations based on the observed number of asteroids suggest that we should expect about 3 large meteors to hit the Earth every million years. This is in good agreement with the geologic record. It is more difficult to compute the frequency of larger impacts but once per 100 million years seems like a reasonable guess. People recorded this meteor strike which made it so unusual. "Through the Tunnel" by Doris Lessing is about an eleven–year–old boy named Jerry. During vacation in France, the boy and his mother enjoy themselves daily by the shore. The boy wants to imitate the French boys who swim through a challenging tunnel, and he overcomes this challenge eventually. Form the safe beach to the tunnel, Jerry's maturity is tested. The setting in "Through the Tunnel" has an impact on the characters, the plot, and the symbols. One way the setting has an impact involves the characters. For example, it is so important for Jerry to swim through the tunnel. He wanted to be with the older boys and be grown up. Every day on his vacation he would tell himself something very specific. "On the day before they left, he would do it." (4) Jerry kept reminding himself that he must go through the tunnel. He never gave up practicing swimming to the tunnel, but always kept trying. Even though there are times where he left like he is not going to make it. Another example is even though Jerry is alone, he still wanted to make sure his mother is alright. "There she is, a speak of yellow under an umbrella that looked like a slice of orange peel". Directors are given the power to catch the attention of an audience through various different techniques and allow them to demonstrate the point that they are wanting the audience to walk away with. When reviewing the films that were provided for us in this course which included Night and Fog, Son of Saul, and Shoah, I was able to immediately select a scene from each that impacted me in immense ways and provide me with memories that will continue to have an outlasting impact and influence on the way that I view the events of the Holocaust. Though all of these films had countless impactful scenes that caused the views to reflect, I chose one from each that truly had an outlasting affect on me as an individual. First, from the movie Night and Fog, I chose the scene that described what the hospitals in the camp were like. This scene impacted me the most because it discussed how the victims thought that they were going in to recieve help to assist them in healing and bettering their health, but in reality they were being brought closer to death. A quote from this scene that summed up the reality of the hospitals was: "The building gave the illusion of a real hospital and hope of finding a real bed, but delivered the real risk of death by syringe. • 45. Developing A Way To Study Asteroids It has always been a worry of researchers that at any moment an asteroid may hit Earth and cause significant damage. Only recently (the past hundred years or so) have people been able to make equipment powerful enough to detect asteroids coming toward Earth and orbiting Earth. This is a very important step in preventing damage to our fragile planet. One of the first asteroids orbiting Earth discovered was 1 Ceres by Piazzi in 1801 (Gehrels, 1999). Since all of the asteroids back in the 1800's were found just by looking up at the sky, it was a very slow going process finding them. In 1891, Max Wolf decided that taking pictures of the asteroids would be a more efficient way of keeping track of them. He was correct. Just looking up at the night's sky was not good enough to see the asteroids (even with the lack of light pollution at the time). Taking a photo would not only help to see the asteroids better, but it would also help to find and identify any other objects that may have been in space at the time. In the 1900's asteroids were referred to as "minor planets". Around this time there were places in Berlin that would use available technology to compute the orbits of these asteroids. In 1957, scientists measured the very first cosmic ray exposure age of an asteroid (Gehrels, 1999). This is the time from which the asteroid breaks off from its place of origin to the time it reaches Earth. On June 30, 1908 above Siberia, an asteroid exploded in the sky. It was ... MAGMA CONTAMINATION AND SULFIDE IMMISCIBILITY OF THE METEORIC IMPACT ZONE IN THE SUDBURY NI–CU DEPOSITS: ONTARIO, CANADA WILLIAMS, Jane B. (University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire, willijan@uwec.edu) Sudbury, Canada is the location of a world class Ni–Cu deposit phenomena. Numerous studies have produced an explanation for the complex evolution of its deposition and enrichment thanks to the impaction of a meteorite 1.85 million years ago. The impact of the meteorite is thought to have caused fracturing that led to the generation of magma from deep in the crust that helped in later filling the crater and producing the igneous complex (Faggart et. al., 1985). The igneous complex (Figure 1a) has an elongated shape (60 km long and 27 km wide) with circular deposits surrounding it similar to a bulls–eye. Evidence of the meteoric impact includes brecciation located in the center of the basin (Onaping Formation), deformation of the margin of the intrusive complex (Huronian Group), shatter cones, and pseudotachylite. The meteor is thought to have flash melted the crust which proceeded to differentiate into a granophyre and a leuconorite to norite composition. The granophyre makes up 60% of the complex and the leuconorite and norite make up the remaining 40% (Figure 1b)(Barnes et. al., 2005). About 50% of the ore is found in the sublayer norite and the breccia that is associated with the norite. This ore is mainly disseminated sulphides. The massive sulphides are located in the center ... In the case of the first hypothesis of where the more time a person spent towards their outside stressors, the greater impact it would have on school work. The results showed that participants, who contributed more time to outside responsibilities, were more likely to feel as if they were being negatively impacted by it. There is one outlier to this in the case of the one student, mother who works 40 hours. This woman was the eldest participant, which may lead to the assumption that with age came more experience at balancing out the extra responsibilities. In the case of my second hypothesis, which was an extension of my 1st, when participants had multiple extra responsibilities, they were more inclined to feel they were being negatively affected. Overall across all the data, when participants had to balance out two or more outside stressors, they felt their schoolwork was being negatively impacted. In conclusion, the results were in line with the hypothesis. Whether the stressor was work, childcare or sports each had some sort of an impact on schoolwork performance. In Mexico in the Turquoise waters, scientists have discovered a crater where they believe an asteroid or comet struck earth which helped cause one of the largest mass extinctions in the history of our planet. They call it, Chicxulub, and they know of it as the killer of dinosaurs. They found evidence of this event first in the layers of rock in the earth. Scientists discovered that when you look at the different layers of rock that depict the history of our planet certain fossils just stopped showing up. The discovery was that at some point certain living creatures on this planet simply no longer lived to create fossils. A discovery made by scientists in the 1980s showed there were large deposits of Iridium in the earth during the time all these creatures suddenly disappeared. Iridium is not that common on this earth, but it is common on asteroids; thus the belief of the steroid hitting earth. Scientists believe ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 61. Paper On Homelessness I had the subject of homelessness, and I have thought about this problem before. It is a subject that has caused controversy throughout the nation and I previously didn't know much about this situation. I began looking on political and news websites to get polls and facts about how much homelessness is affecting our world today. I used the websites on the library page and they were a huge help in getting articles and helping me to keep everything organized. Some things were hard to find such as finding a quote from someone who is an expert on homelessness, it took me a while to find. This project was fun and led me to understand this problem more and to understand how deeply it affects us and our world. I believe that I created a PSA that ... Before this project I never really knew just how many people were living without homes, and now knowing that over half a million people in the US are, it is so depressing. My opinions on the issue remained the same. I always have and still do believe that homelessness is a widespread phenomenon, and my opinions on homelessness change on the story of each person living without a home. I think my PSA really stood out and really exhibited just how scary some of the facts were about this problem. Hopefully when people watch it they get the same, "I want to help" feeling that I did. I believe that my PSA is able to show that call to action response and get people to want to help those who are living on the streets without a home and a good place to sleep at ... • 63. Tragedy in Antigone by Sophocles and Blackfish Karl Marx, the German philosopher, once said "History repeats itself, first as tragedy, second as farce." For me, this quote clearly describes the overarching relationship between Blackfish and Antigone. This analogy starts with Antigone, written about an oppressed woman against the fists of tyranny. That early in history woman's rights was often taboo at places, and democracy was only recently established. Yet, Antigone went against the norm by focusing on a heroine that challenged male authority and nobility, thus making it revolutionary. Now, an unbelievably eye–opening documentary, Blackfish has been produced about a "company–despot" that values money over life and recognition over morals. In this story, the life of a killer–whale ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Blackfish, on the other hand, was created with the goal to change society in mind, and did this by pressing a recent, overlooked problem to the audience. As this was set in current times, it directly affected many of us. My own money has been used for SeaWorld and its attractions, and after finding out how they have used the money, it has helped accredit for some of my new found dissent towards the company. As a documentary, it presented many graphic and touching scenes that were awfully traumatic. These powerful scenes struck nerves for many, as it was hard to take in, and have helped Blackfish garner national and international attention. Sadly, many people still don't know what is happening behind the scenes, and are still being exploited because of this. I am thankful for Blackfish, as it will ensure that I won't ever be taken advantage of by SeaWorld. By using strong examples and imagery to prove a point against a nationally acclaimed and visited company, Blackfish has swayed me, alongside my heart, to choose it as more impacting. More important than historical backgrounds or impacts to society (for me), is how both stories impacted myself. Antigone started by opening my eyes to the calamities of Greek drama. It gave me crucial insights to the lives of the past people: the ever–lasting importance of religion from their eyes, and the fight for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 65. Why Do Mammals Survive The Execution Of Dinosaurs? Have you ever wondered how the mammals survived the massive execution of the dinosaurs? It is strange since one of the most dominant species became extinct and one of the smaller species like the mammals were able to survive this event. Some people said it was because they were fast enough to get away or lucky enough to get away, but both of those are false. Since these were pre– historic times we can't be hundred percent sure that these pieces of evidence are not fully true, but aren't truly false to. Now let's go back into time and figure out this mystere. A way that the early mammals could have survived the execution is by hiding in burrows and aquatic environments. Now how this helped them is because the burrows and environments they lived in was able to block them from the heat from the impact. On the Article "Why did the mammals survived the 'K/T extinction' news.psu.edu it says "Underground burrows and aquatic environments protected small mammals from the brief but drastic rise in temperature." This shows us one of the few reasons why the mammals were able to survive that massive execution from 65 million years ago. The mammals most likely stayed in their for a few days untiled the heat died down. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 67. Causes Of The Mass Extinction Of Dinosaurs We know that there is evidence that dinosaurs once roamed the earth. The only thing dinosaurs left behind is their bones that has helped us learn more about them like what they might have looked like, what they ate, and where they lived but the biggest mystery that still has not been explained is, what exactly caused this mass extinction of dinosaurs to be wiped off the face of the earth? Dinosaurs lived for 165 millions years until 66 million years ago when they went extinct. In this mass extinction 70 percent of species including dinosaurs, plants, and ocean animals were hit the hardest and caused them to die. In the ocean organisms like foraminifera that are single celled protists with shells, echinodermata marine invertebrate known as starfish ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My belief is that both the asteroid and ice age theory played a big role as to when the dinosaurs had become extinct. After the meteor had hit the earth, some of the dinosaurs and other life did die from the impact causing the destruction to the land on the earth and to the environment causing them to die off because of bad air quality, the loss of photosynthesis, and the little food there was for their survival. The others that had stayed alive would have probably migrated to other areas on earth where it was least affected and livable for the dinosaurs to live in and continue to live their lives for many years to come before they too eventually died off. Since the meteor was very large and powerful, it could have done some damage to the earth but of course it didn't because it is still here but it could have tilted earth's axis in which it slowly affected the climate change. This was probably the start of the ice age slowly coming together. Eventually the dinosaurs that did survive starting feeling the effects of low dropping temperatures in the new climate change, something that they were not used to before because they were cold blooded animals and needed the sun to keep their bodies warm. Eventually the low temperatures caused ice to form on the North and South poles making the oceans colder and possibly freezing the oceans. The dinosaurs would not be able to ... • 69. How Football Changed My Life Essay As the ball is spinning through the air on that frigid, airy night, it's like a momentary pause as we all wait for it to drop. As the ball comes down, I go up and just as I believe I have won the ball; I am knocked down and out. Everyone has an impactful moment in their life. Mine just happened to be an actual impact. An impact to my head that also just happened to have a bigger impact on my life than I ever could have imagined, probably because I don't remember much from that day. As the final whistle blew and my team had lost the game, I was lost in deep thoughts inside my head. Where was I? What was the score? And what just happened? Little did I know that my team had just been knocked out of the State bracket and as we all piled onto the bus I sat in my seat dazed and confused. On the ride home my coach told me, "you might as well have been on a football field because you just got drilled like you had shoulder pads and a helmet on," yet I had no protection. Just like in life we prepare ourselves as much as possible but sometimes we don't have the protection we need and we never knew it until it was too late. • 71. My Memories A Favorite Memory An individual's childhood memory has impacted them in some way whether it be emotionally or physically. From one memory to another, good or bad, develops the entity of a person's personality or logic. I considered one of my worst memories a favorite memory because, from that experience, I gained development as an individual. The start of that development occurred on vacation without my parents attending. Like any other child, I became very enthusiastic of the whole idea of freedom and self–guidance. After the majority of the trip, I became uninterested with self–guidance and I wanted to rely on the adults to plan fun–filled activities. I was very disappointed with the fact that their lack of authority and action lead to an uneventful vacation. I began to miss my parents' guidance because with every request or action they took it was in all the best interest of me. Whether it was to hold my hand across the road or watch the things I eat, all of it was intended for my growth and safety. It was then that I realized how much my parents really cared for me and it made me grow to respect their wishes even more. Concisely what began as a getaway from my parents resulted in a realization of how much I should appreciate and respect them. • 73. Essay On The Role Of Women In Heart Of Darkness In the Heart of Darkness you see a lot about Africa in the 1900s through an imperialistic view considering that's where Conrad is from. There are also a lot of behind the scenes importance nobody really picks up on. Women in the Heart of Darkness played more of a role in the book than people think, and it also portrays the effects on Africa and all of Europe, slowly. In the 1900s, women in advanced areas of the worlds have always been fighting for equal rights. When you take a look at that history, women are either protagonists or in most cases they are just being submissive to their husband or whomever it may be. The Fates have the foresight and can see into every man's fate, so they are pretty much a big deal if you believe in that sort of stuff. Maybe this also doesn't catch your eye whiles you read, Marlow may have had a mentally lasting impact from it based from his initial reaction. Another woman you most definitely could not ignore was Kurtz's African Mistress. She caught the eye of Marlow based off of the vivid description given. He mentions that She walked with measured steps, draped in striped and fringed clothes, treading the earth proudly, carrying her head high, her hair was in the shape of a helmet, she had brass leggings to the knee, brass wire gauntlets, etc, etc, you get the point. This woman isn't just Kurtz's mistress, she carries the personification of Africa herself, dark and mysterious and from Marlow's description of her being gorgeous, embodying all the beauty, mystery and danger within Africa. She also carries some power with her or influence over the natives around the station, and Kurtz himself. This was probably one of the only women who showed clear influence whiles the other women mentioned in this article were more background like the 1900s from a man's perspective would want you to see. • 75. The Positive Aspects Of Heros In The Modern World Superman, Batman, Ironman, Hulk, Thor, etc. All 'heroes' in the world, but not just superheroes are 'heroes'. Everyone has the potential to become a hero, and heroism traits are a part of everyone. A hero isn't always the strongest human being that risks their life, a hero is someone who makes a positive impact in someone else's life and overcomes challenges. Bob Riley said, "Hard times don't create heroes. It is during the hard times when the 'hero' within us is revealed." This quote proves how a hero faces these hard times and defeats these obstacles that face them. There are many examples of heroes in the modern world. These people that become unique heroes are regular people like you and me. The only difference is, these unique heroes take an extra step and make a footprint in the world. There were, and are many situations and natural disasters in the word that help bring out these heroes. For example, there were dozens of heroes during the 9/11 attacks. People from all different backgrounds became a hero saving other lives and making a difference in random stranger's life. One hero during this hard time in America was known as the man in the red bandana. He obtained this nickname because he wore a red bandana to cover his mouth and lungs while helping others. He worked on the 104th floor and saved dozens rescuing them and accompanying them down to safety. On September 11, the man in red in bandana had positive impacts on others by saving the lives of many strangers. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 77. Cheryl's Journey Character Analysis To hike the PCT, one would need to have three things: experience of hiking, knowledge of survival, and the drive to continue forward. When Cheryl set foot on the trail, she knew nothing of hiking besides a few basic skills she was taught by her step–father. She suffered from her lack of knowledge until she met these three people. One of these characters was an elderly man named Albert. His role as mentor was brief yet the one of the most notable throughout Cheryl's journey. Albert is a seasoned hiker who Cheryl met on the way to her first checkpoint. At first he teased her about the size of her backpack then proceeded to ask her about her health (Strayed 93). The scene that presented Albert's role as one of her mentors was in Chapter 7, "...feeling as if I were taking a test that I was bound to fail. When I was done, Albert returned and methodically unpacked my pack. He placed each item in one of two piles–one to go back into my pack, another to go into the now– empty resupply box..." (Strayed 106). Cheryl considered Albert's method to packing every time she stopped a camping site. As Cheryl watched Albert file ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
