Evaluation question 3 for my A2 media project. I looked at my project from beginning to end and discussed the effects and opinions of the audience we asked through using questionnaires.
2. Brief
■ Our target audience was teenagers as we have teenage actors in the movie. It does
however target both genders, we aimed it a women because of the strong female
leads and we aimed it at males because of the action and thriller in it. Our task was to
make a 5 minute short film and find out what the people we were targeting wanted
from their movies.
3. Planning stage
• Once we came up with an idea for the storyline we made a
questionnaire and asked people what they thought about it.
We also asked if there are any similar movies they could think
of and if they would watch it. The storyline was on the back of
questionnaire so the people could take their time in answering.
• From the answers to this questionnaire we found that after
reading the plot most of the people asked would go and watch
our movie. We also found that some could think of similar
movie to our one which helped us when we were doing our
independent research
4.
5. Planning stage
• The results we got from that questionnaire helped us to look at
what changes needed to be made once we began creating the
movie. We also used the feedback on the question of could
they think of any movie that matched our one to use in our
independent research. We used this to compare aspects our
movie and to also find conventions of the thriller genre and
that types of movies.
6. Creating stage
• During creating our movie we made a few changes due to the
first questionnaire showing that some people were confused
with some parts of the storyline. To improve that we decided to
give the main character a background story in the form of a
news report from the past, to show this we made some of the
shots black and white as that’s how most scenes from the past
are shown in other movies. We also added a meeting scene to
show why the main character was hired to kill me man in black.
7. Creating stage
■ Questionnaire answers: From our second questionnaire we found that on question 5
which asked what gender do they think the movie appeals to most people answered
either female or both.We also asked what changes we could make and most of the
answers said to add sound to our film.
8.
9. Creating stage
• Through out the movie we tried to make the audience question
who the killer is and tried to make the main character seem as
the target. However we did trop clues through the movie to see
if the audience could piece them together.
• After this we sent out the almost finished film and a
questionnaire asking people their opinions. We also asked
them what changes we could make to make the film better.
Most of the answers said we required more sound in the movie
which we were aware of all ready.
10.
11. Finishing stage
• Our movie tried to follow some of the conventions of the
thriller genre to provide the audience with some of their
expectations however we also wanted to give them something
fresh. Making a powerful female lead who did something bad
for good reasons was something that hasn't been done in many
movies yet.
• We also made one last questionnaire to ask peoples opinions
on the finished film. This was a short questionnaire to just see
what they though of our movie and if they would go and see it
in the cinema or watch it online.
12.
13. Finishing stage:
■ Questionnaire answers: In our final questionnaire we just wanted to see what people
though of our film overall and where they would go to see it.We also asked any
changes that could be made and if they would tell their friends to see it. Looking at the
answers we found that most people would watch it and some would recommend their
friends to see it.We also found that most people wouldn’t make any changes and that
they would watch it if it came out to cinemas and online.
14.
15. Conclusion
• In conclusion, from audience feed back at different stages of
our production we found that most people liked our movie and
would watch it if it was to go to cinema. We also found that it
mostly appealed to the younger generation because of the
female empowerment within the movie.
