Pilot Fatigue Essay
Fatigue is a growing concern and issue in the aviation industry. Although it has been for some time,
recently mounting workloads and stress have factored into creating an escalating problem with real
casualties and repercussions. "Pilot fatigue, heavy workloads... may have contributed to an air
ambulance crashing into the sea at night during a medical mission..." (Crash Blamed 2006 p.31).
Fatigue is an "insidious" condition that affects a pilot in a way that might make him feel justified in
his decisions. (Wald 2008 C3). Without realizing the effects of sleepiness and stress, pilots often
times make the wrong decision, believing it to be the right one, and suffering severe consequences,
such as: passenger injures, crew injuries or even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many pilots commute to and from the airport where he/she is assigned. This isn't always vehicle
commute. A number of pilots travel as a passenger by plane to get to the airport– only to travel once
more as the pilot–in–command. "The co–pilot, of a commuter jet that crashed near Buffalo, N.Y.,
commuted to Newark Airport from her parents' home in Seattle, Washington." (Strickland) This co–
pilot has reported earnings of $17,000/year with a regional jet carrier, which brings in the second
cause: Salary. "...the cab driver who takes you to the airport makes more than the pilot who's going
to fly you..." (Strickland) A pilot's salary, when it is not complimentary of his/her responsibility, is a
stress inducer, which contributes more mental baggage that the pilot must carry.
Industry Flaws Accentuate Stress/ Lack of Resources
System flaws account for scheduling issues. When there are not enough pilots to cope with the
heavy traffic flow, the same pilots are being scheduled more often and for longer periods of time.
"CAPA has suggested lowering the actual duty time of pilots to 12 hours in a 24–hour period, with a
two–hour window to account for delays. The current 16 hours of duty time often makes it difficult
for pilots to get an actual 8 hours of rest in each 24–hour period." (82% of Americans...)
A resource that is always a concern is money. Many issues and affairs are often decided on money
alone. When airline

Housing In The 1970's
A commonly problem faced by the government, business owners and homeowners alike is the
homelessness of low–income families, disabled people and seniors that inhabit public housing.
These housing projects provide affordable housing through federal funds. The people who instituted
it visions and intensions have evolved.
Public housing started out very small, buildings only a couple stories tall. They would be paid for
through rent paid for by tenants and bonds. The program utilized high–rise buildings in the early
1950's. This typically failed with families, but worked well with the elderly. In the 1970's the price
of rent correlated with the income of the tenant. The program became predominantly poor, and a
financial gap arose. The low social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The only people they have look up to are their parents who are more likely than most to not be
educated. Even if they make it to college, as the first in the family to college, kids are 4 times as
likely to drop out (according to USA Today).
Crime is more dominant in low–income housing. The US has relatively high rates of crime, ranking
third in intentional homicide, fourth in rape, and eighth in the rate of robbery in the world. Most of
this crime is caused by America's poverty. Families that make 15 thousand or less are three times as
likely to commit a crime than families that bring in 75 thousand or more. In public housing it is a lot
more likely to become a victim than in other areas. There is a cost that comes with it, whether it is
injury, theft or the emotional damage caused by witnessing violence. This reality they face causes
higher rates of depression and anger. Poor families have a higher risk of crime, but also deal with the
chances of a family member going to prison. In the US 2.7 million children have an incarcerated

Conservatism In The 1970's
Conservatism began to dominate American politics in the 1980s because the 1960s had seen
America get too liberal socially for most people's comfort. The average American was not
comfortable with hippies and the anti–Vietnam war movement and the riots in cities. The 1970s saw
economic trouble and liberal economic solutions that had been used since the New Deal were not
working. By the end of the 1970s, people wanted something different, something that could make
America strong and prosperous again. Reagan was also able to move the US further to the right
politically because the American people loved him and thought the world of him and also because
he was a great salesman. Reagan was able to persuade the American people that less government,

The 1970s Energy Crisis In The 1970's
The 1970s energy crisis was a problem in the 1970s, because it caused panic in America. So many
people, at that time were depended on oil, to keep their cars running. What caused the panic, started
when an oil embargo was imposed. This oil embargo was imposed by the members of the
Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC). Shortly after the embargo was a
announced, only three months later oil prices shot up from $3 per barrel to $12. Also due to this oil
embargo, American also faced fuel shortages as well. During this time, sometimes the lines would
form at gas stations, with people demanding more oil. The United States Government tried to help,
by taking strides to preserve energy. One example, was how gas stations were requested to stay
closed on Sundays. Since people could not buy oil to power their cars, they did buy cars at all. So
this also caused an immense hit to the American automotive industry. Although the The oil embargo
was lifted in March 1974, although oil fees remained high. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

run out in about thirty years, if people continuous to use the size of energy that they do now. In spite
of the fact that we could run out of energy, there is still hope today. Scientists are working around
the clock, to find new gas and oil fields everyday. Other scientists are also trying to find more
beneficial ways to retrieve energy. So there is still hope today for a radiant more viridescent world,

Bodybuilding In The 1970's
The 1970's was a major time period for bodybuilding, some say the most important time period for
this sport. From the best bodybuilder ever to live breaking records and winning titles to poems about
the life of a bodybuilder. The main topic for this essay is American Culture in the 70s but to
summarize it down, bodybuilding is what the topic is because without the 70s, bodybuilding would
not be as popular as it is today. Arnold Schwarzenegger is the best bodybuilder known to man.
Reason is because he had the drive, the determination , the mind set to never give up and always
keep pushing yourself. The 70s was the biggest time period for him because he won his Mr.Olympia
7 times in a row. In the 70s people were confused about bodybuilders ... Show more content on

This theme is almost a celebrated thing of their achievement with the use of steroids. But it's not
uncommon for bodybuilders not to use steroids or some other hormone drug for performance
enhancement growth to perform at their great level.
The 1970s was a unique time in the American Culture that when examined casts a view that takes
place in American society. Bodybuilding was a major thing in this decade from the film "Pumping
Iron" having a major role in bodybuilding to racial, citizen roles Arnold and Franco and just every
other non citizen had to face with. But it showed how there is and can be success in the United
States if you set your mind to something a do it and never give up on yourself and never quit
grinding and always stay hungry. Bodybuilding too many is addicting and they can't stop grinding,
for an example, Arnold and Franco at the ages of 70 years old are still in their old gym "Gold's
Gym" which bodybuilder Ken Waller who was is in " Pumping Iron " owns Gold's Gym and runs it
still this day. So if there was a message in this essay it would be to never give up, always push your
self and never wanna be like everyone

Crime In The 1970's
The United States of America has a crime problem. When was the last time you turned on the
evening news and did not hear a story about violence? Everything from the shows we watch to the
music we listen to in modern society portrays crime in some way. The shows people watch on
television become more and more violent and gory in order to keep viewers tuned in. People line up
to view the newest crime–fighting movie. If you turn on the radio you hear song lyrics from the
degrading of women to sex, crime, drugs and violence. All of this influences us on a daily basis.
Americans spend millions of dollars figuring out ways to improve crime control. Everything from
building new prisons, to raising police salaries, courthouse operations, and security systems, we
even elect politicians with promises of tougher laws and safer streets. Our car insurance rises, often
caused by insurance fraud. Whether you recognize it or not we have all been victims of crimes. This
is why effective policies must be established to reduce criminal activity in the future. Since crime is
so broad ranging from violent crimes to cyber crimes this paper will view it from a different
perspective, drawing evidence from genetic and biosocial criminology. Being able to better identity
early signs of criminal activity and having proper policies in place should ... Show more content on

By the 1970's a general public sentiment of "war on crime" developed, partly because of President
Nixon (Worrall, 2015). The crime problem in the United States is defined differently according to
whom you speak to. One American may be concerned about being a victim of a sexual assault,
while another American might be worried about cyber security. Crime is a multifaceted concept
(Worrall, 2015). This is so because of the varieties of crime. Crime is a concept because it is
something that needs to be further defined. In other words, most crimes need to be specified as

The Great Inflation In The 1970's
The 1970's was a time of stagflation, which is a constant increase in both inflation and
unemployment. The Great Inflation took place from 1965 to 1982, but the majority of inflation took
place in the 1970's. This occurred because there was too much money being pumped into the
economy, which ultimately raised prices of goods and services. The events in this slide had an
impact on the economy as well. I included women's rights because women at the time of Roe v.
Wade began to work outside the home, which added to the workforce, ultimately increasing the
GDP. I also felt that adding Nike to this list was important because by 1980, Nike owned 50 percent

Output slowed down because, at that specific time, most goods produced in the United States was
for the military. To help the economy, Nixon put into effect a freeze on prices and wages(Sandra
Kollen Ghizoni, 2013). Overtime, this actually worked; the economy slowed started to recover. The
demand for oil was extremely high. In 1973, the oil crisis began. There was an embargo on oil to the
US because we supported Israel. This made oil prices skyrocket. Americans couldn't really afford to
heat their own homes, and even schools had to shut down. This caused panic everywhere around the
US. With the dollar value decreasing in the early 1970's, this was one of the reasons as well why the
oil prices increased drastically(Oil Shock of 1973–74, 2013). The Vietnam War had ended in 1975,
which impacted the US economy negatively. Inflation and unemployment drastically increased
afterwards. The unemployment rate in 1975, was 8.5%, which was the highest since 1947 at that
time. In 1974 and 1975, the US inflation rate, by year, was 9.39% and 11.80% respectively, which is
extremely high. After any war, inflation occurs though, and it continues for several years before the
economy stabilizes

Women In The 1970's
The number of women returning to higher education has greatly risen since the 1970's. They have
returned for a number of reasons. Some being, employment opportunities, retirement or becoming a
widow and dealing with grown children who've left the home. Typically these women returning are
older; have more responsibility than the traditional–aged student; are usually married, and are
mothers (Teachman & Paasch, 1989)
In the 1980's and 1990's, there was research conducted to study why the population of women were
returning and the reasons for re–entry. Several factors were considered in this research; background,
socioeconomic status and changing life course. At the end of these studies, it was found that college
and universities could better deal with the needs of this growing population by offering financial
programs. These programs would provide opportunities and provide a supportive learning
environment. Women of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Using the data from the 1970 National Fertility Survey, Davis and Bumpass (1976) one third of
married women have returned to school or hope to in the future. These women hold certain things in

A Brief Note On The National Fire Protection Association
In 1970's a person home will be engulfed in flames in 17 minutes, today, three minutes, what
changed? In the 1970's homes were almost made to prevent the spread of fire. The National Fire
Protection Association or NFPA were making stronger codes and stricter standers for homes. Today
they are still in effect, but a fire in today's home can spread five times quicker. The reason why
today's home catches on fire quicker is how the house is made of, the house layout, the furniture in
the home, and how to prevent such a fire.
In 1970's homes were not made with engineered lumber. Engineered lumber is made from wood,
chips, sawdust and glue. The lumber is used in 65% of construction. Plywood is the biggest couplet
for engineered lumber. The European Science and Research Institute did a test to see what plywood
burns faster. They tested many different types of wood that was plywood; however what burned the
most was the modified plywood. Even the pine plywood that was runner up was not even close to
how fast the modified plywood was burning. During the 70s the plywood people used was the local
wood around them. For example cypress plywood is used mainly in Florida and Hemlock was
mainly used in and around Tennessee. While today most homes are made of this designed wood that
can burn faster. What's even a bigger problem is that firefighters don't want to go into a modern
home because of wooden I–beam joints. I–beam joints hold the floor together and if it fails the floor
collapses.

Describe The Changes In The 1970's
The seventies can be known for many things, for you it could've have meant the year that your
favorite band broke up. Which the Beatles did just starting off the year in April 1970. In the 1970s
the first commercial air line came to be in the 1976 and it was know as Concorde. It was soon taken
out in 2003 when it crashed in 2000. During the seventies a lot of singers died, which could've had

The Flappers In The 1970's
A look at the history of the United States shows a series of cycles through the decades. The 1920's

focus on the basics of life: family, community and religion, and to conserve everything to survive.
The 1940's was a time of a booming economy, when everyone was spending freely. In the 1950's,
people were again focusing on religion and conservative values. The 1960's was a time of rebellion,
when hippies and war protesters fought against everything the establishment did. The 1970's tried to

The Controversy Over New Airport Security Measures Essay
The country's recently heightened airport security measures
have become a source of controversy and debate across the
Nation. Due to a recent attempted act of terrorism, where a man
on an international flight to Detroit attempted to blow up the

new measures to ensure national security in the form of new high–
tech full–body scans and pat down procedures in airports. The new

they're going to do something else" (Schwartz, The New York

On the other side of the argument, the TSA (Transportation

Blaxploitation Films In The 1970's
Blaxploitation is a term coined in the early 1970's that referred to black films that were aimed at
black audiences. These movies were different because it showed black characters and communities
as the heroes and as positive images. Before this time, blacks were portrayed in movies as violent
and brutal people. Blaxploitation movies were condemned for their stereotypical characterization
and violent backgrounds (Allen). Although originated for a black audience, these films were
watched by many different types of people. These films were the first to regularly have a primarily
black cast (Separate Cinema). These movies were different in the time that they came about with all
the negative aspects of the 1970's. They represented that African American people could make

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Social Media
Shrestha 1
Reza Shrestha Sherry Sharifian Government 2305–71013 4th November, 2017 Social Media and
Politics Social media is a technology that is computer based and used by people for their research
activities and communicating purposes. 1 Social media is a very good platform for people to express
their feelings. 2 Some popular social media sites are Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc. For a person,
the use of social media can be a boon as well as curse. Effective use of social media can help a
person to broaden their knowledge. On the other hand, social media can be harmful if misused.
Social media is a public platform and if anything said wrong can result in hurting other people
feelings which ultimately creates conflict between individuals or a group. So, social media should be
used effectively to gain more knowledge and reduce conflicts.
3 Social media has become a good platform for the elected leaders. 4 They can convey their
messages to the general public via social media instead of going to places. It also helps people to
give feedbacks on the issues shared by the political leaders through social media. However,
politicians should be careful while using the social medias because once the wrong information or
message is posted and seen by the public, it can result in decrease in their publicity and it can also
result in conflicts among the people. However, the things posted on social media is not always
correct. 4 According to the Pew Charitable Trust, the Dallas Police Department tweeted an article to
the public stating that the Denver Broncos cornerback Aqib Talib had been arrested for public
intoxication. However, that was a social media blunder because it was not Aqib Talib who was
arrested but it was his brother Yaqub Talib, who was arrested. This incident shows that a social
media blunder can lead to embarrassment and retractions and can affect the politicians or the one
who was responsible for the blunder.
I recently followed President Donald Trump from 21st October, 2017 to 3rd November, 2017. I
noticed that the President uses twitter excessively. He lets public know anything and everything he
finds important through twitter. On October 25th, the President posted about the biggest tax cut in

The EPA In The 1970's
Historically: In the 1970's there was growing confusion regarding environmental policy due to
certain states creating environmental protection laws which were largely ineffective. To ease
confusion, fix national guidelines, and monitor and enforce them President Richard Nixon created
the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The EPA functions under three federal departments:
the Interior, Agriculture, and Health, Education and Welfare departments. The original role of the
EPA was to administrate the Clean Air Act which was enacted to reduce the air pollution caused by
vehicles and industry. The EPA has since grown to enforce at least 12 major statutes such as: ocean

Congress amended the Clean Air Act to set national standards for air quality, auto emission and
anti–pollution in 1970 as well. In 1971 Congress restricts lead–based paint in homes and on cribs

and Congress passes the Clean Water Act limiting raw sewage and other pollutants in fresh water
such as lakes, rivers, and streams. In 1973 the EPA issues its first permit limiting a factory's polluted
discharge into water. In this same year, the OPEC oil embargo triggers an energy crisis which
stimulates conservation of fossil fuels and research on alternative fuel sources. Congress passes the
Safe Drinking Water Act in 1974 which allows the EPA to regulate the quality of public drinking
water. Two years later President Gerald Ford signed the Toxic Substances Control Act of 1976 to
reduce environmental and human health risks. This resulted in Congress passing the Resource

to phase out carcinogenic polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) production and use. The following year

II. Tribal Allegiance and Conflict Creation
The ethnicization of politics began when European colonial powers transformed race and tribe into a
static entity for the colonial legal project (Mamdani, 2002). Much like the Bantustans completely
ethnicized society in apartheid–era South Africa (Handley, 2015), ethnicity became important for the
colonial "divide and conquer" strategy throughout the continent. Administrating a large African
populace could only be completed through a differentiation of ethnic identities. Unfortunately, most
African states maintained this systematic segregation of peoples through decolonization and the
post–colonial era. The patrimonial elites that inherited power in the post–colonial government could
use this strategy to ensure a longer political rule (Hagg & Kagwanja, 2008). The result of
segregation in Kenya recently transformed into political turmoil. Where Kenya is an example of an
emerging democracy in the African context, ethnicity is viewed with trepidation (Jung, 2000). The
proclaimed "2007–2008 Kenya Crisis" exemplifies the notion of ethnic tension. In this paragraph, I

1970's Jonestown
By the late 1970's Jones' congregation peaked in numbers, so did the persona of Jim Jones. His
image was that of a messiah, the personal object of the People's Temple, "Father" to his devout
followers (Osherow). Jones had their unwavering loyalty, unconditional love, their worldly
possessions, and believers who were under his will. He had the components to begin building his
paradise, his city, his infamous legacy, Jonestown. Only eight months after establishing Jonestown,
deep in the bucolic jungle of Guyana the labors of the clan were flourishing. Together the
congregation cleared almost 4,000 acres of solid vegetation in the most unimaginable conditions,

The Meaning of Water in the Poem Blessing by Imtiaz...
To start with, the theme of the poem is that water is a necessity to life and is a precious gift. This gift
is known as a "Blessing". To begin with, there is a lack of water in which the poem takes place.
Imtiaz starts the poem off strong stating right away how "The skin cracks like a pod" (1). Human
skin becomes dry and cracked when it is not moisturized. A pod is useless when it is dries up and
becomes fragile because of the deficiency of water. The pod links to human skin because water
keeps the skin hydrated and helps the body function. In addition, the villagers in the poem value
water. When the municipal pipes explode, "silver crashes to the ground" (9). To the villagers, the
water shines like silver. The villagers worship the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By adding in onomatopoeias, the reader is able to hear the sound of the water as it rushes and
crashes. Therefore, the poetic devices that Imtiaz uses have a tremendous purpose throughout the
poem. Last of all, "Blessing" by Imtiaz Dharker represents the period of the poem written in
nineteen eighty–nine, which is post–modern. First and foremost, temperatures were sweltering. In
fact, the hottest day was on April seventh with a high temperature of forty degrees Celsius
(WeatherSpark Beta). This connects to the poem because it deals with a hot country where
dehydration is quite normal. Since the poem takes place in the slums in Mumbai, India, "There is
never enough water" (2) for the villagers to consume and the great degree of heat causes more
problems to their health. Adding to that, the humidity was high. June to September were the stickiest
months (WeatherSpark Beta), which led to thirst, and the skin cracking "...like a pod" (1). In fact,
with a daily average low humidity of seventy–eight percent, August was the most humid month
(WeatherSpark Beta). The weather conditions of Mumbai itself were described as reasonably hot
with soaring levels of humidity (Climate of Mumbai). All of these situations link to the poem
because the villagers need water when the weather is hot and sticky to keep their bodies hydrated
and functioning. Undoubtedly, the period when the poem was written relates back to the

Historical Events Of 1970's
The 1970's were a very exciting time, the events that would be written in the history books were, the
26th amendment was passed letting people vote at the age of 18 instead of 21, the Microsoft
Corporation was founded, and the McDonald's drive through was created. There was also new
technology such as the first digital watch; and the Atari 2600. Also new movie technology was
created with the passing years, and the movie studios were taking a huge risk on these new movies
because they did not know how the public would react to them. There were also new movie genres
because of the conflict going on around the world. Many amazing movies were made in the 1970's
because of important historical dates. During the 1970's there were many historical events
happening, but there was a main event that stood out from all the others. The Vietnam War was
going on in the early years of the 1970's and ended in 1972. Firstly past President Nixon, otherwise
facing impeachment, resigned from the presidency in 1975. Secondly at his home 'Graceland', Elvis

Aids In The 1970's
AIDS, the disease that's killed 35 million people since the 1970's and 70 million people to this day
are currently living with this disease as it affects their life on a daily basis.
The AIDS epidemic in 1979 was believed to be started as a means of genocide, the deliberate killing
of a particularly large ethnic group, targeting African Americans and homosexuals.
In the late 1970's AIDS was just introduced, others knew it as the "gay plague." In Manhattan, the
government was thought to have made HIV later introduced as the main leading cause of AIDS, to
use it as a weapon of genocide against gay men.
When the epidemic first broke out, the health officials told the public there was no need to worry,

Environmental Inequality In The 1970's
Introduction The atmosphere of the 1950s to 1970s can be described as a time of intense turmoil in
American history. In the 1960s there was a change in the way people viewed the environment and
what as a nation they were doing to destroy it. Women again rose up to combat oppression
inequality during the 1960s, as they have done in the past before. The Civil Rights came with a
powerful force of change for the minorities of the United States and paved the way for other
Movement to arise. In the trying times of the chaotic 1950's to 1970s three of the most influential
movements of their time emerged, the Environmental Movement, Women's Movement, and the
Civil Rights movement, all would go onto changing the American way of life.
Environmental Movement Just like the bald eagle the American way of life in the 1960s was killing
America and the animal in the environment. Chemical sprayed in the air to ward off bugs like DDT
was contaminating the water supply, killing the fish and harming the animals who drank from it. So
in the mid 60s Congress passed a law prohibiting the use of DDT in the United States. As news of
America's environmental arose the public began to organise small environment movements which
played a big role in attracting the attention of the government, which passed the Clean Air and Water

Such as the case of inequality in the social aspect, the workforce, and educational fields. The
serotype of the 1950s was that the women were to get married, become housewives, and raise a

stereotype and allow women to be empowered to live their own life. They passed anti discrimination
bills in congress to allow women to more easily get jobs and expand their feminist movement.

Society In The 1970's
In many dictionaries society is described as a community of people living together in a group or
nation. Even though it may simply mean that; society is one of the sociological terms derived from a
Latin word "socious" meaning friendship or companionship. It is a large grouping sharing the same
cultural, social and geographical location. Society consists of people and their mutual awareness and
interactions with each other, it is a network of social relationships. Society can be shown as a group
of unique individuals who share the same culture and social structure, the members of the society
may have different ethnic groups but they share the same society. Society is not a constant it can
never stay the same it always changes with the people. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Drugs In The 1970's
The war on drugs was and is racist for several reasons. It was used to jail African Americans and
hippies in the early 1970's, keep more people of color in jail for, and to deport immigrants. In June
1971 President Nixon declared the war on drugs to jail those who would vote against him. Two
small but loud groups, hippies and African Americans and hippies were against Nixon. At the time
these two groups were stereotyped as heavy marijuana users. After Nixon, jail sentences were then
lengthened for possession of marijuana to unreasonable and illogical lengths. Then during the
1990's, when Bill Clinton was president, the number of policemen was dramatically raised. The
number was raised so much that there was not enough money for sufficient training ... Show more

After this Marijuana would then take another rise in society and then another dip during the 1920's
jazz age. The Jazz age at the time was influenced partially by the drug but no more than it was
already influencing other parts of society. Sadly, the new music was considered extremely edgy like
rock and roll was when it was first being developed. Another key fact about this time was that the
Jazz was being created by African Americans like Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, and more. It
was Harry Anslinger who hated this music, marijuana, and African Americans so much that he
started the war on marijuana. Anslinger fully believed in hardcore racism when it came to
demonizing weed. Unfortunately, Harry Anslinger became the first commissioner of the Federal
Bureau of Narcotics, which was a predecessor to the DEA. Anslinger started this war on marijuana
with alternative facts such as, "Marijuana makes a murderer who kills for the love of killing out of
the mildest mannered man who ever laughed at the idea that any habit could ever get him" and,
"Marijuana is the most violence causing drug in the history of mankind. Most marijuana smokers
are negroes, Hispanics, Filipinos, and entertainers." And that "Marijuana leads to pacifism and
communist brainwashing". The miraculous thing is that these quotes are some of Anslinger's most
truthful quotes. Some of his more inaccurate and racist quotes include, "There are 100,000 total
marijuana smokers in the US, and most are Negroes, Hispanics, Filipinos, and entertainers, their
satanic music, jazz and swing, result from marijuana usage. This marijuana causes white women to
seek sexual relations with Negroes, entertainers and any others." And, "The primary reason to
outlaw marijuana is its effect on degenerate races. Marijuana influences negroes to look at white

The 1970s was another attempt to fix the problems of the 1960s. The Americans in poverty protested

not want the United States to appear as they lost the war. American troops did not leave Vietnam

1970's Architecture
1970's Architecture Everything in the world is formed by using architecture. Architecture is putting
things together and making something out of it all. From the time of the cavemen, and to present
day, we've used architecture. Everything that you see in front of you is a form of architecture: a
pencil, a piece of paper, and even a lollipop is architecture. Someone out there had an idea to put
things together to form something new. Atoms are the building blocks of the world, and they
combine with other elements to make a new compound, like H2O, or also known as water. The
world would not exist if not for the power of architecture. In the 1970's, architecture had changed a

There were many new types of architecture styles because of the current form of buildings around.
People had wanted a change, so they decided to be different from others and built all kinds of

and more chances of something happening to your property. It is mainly because of the oil drilling,
new weather conditions, and more people coming into the U.S. and many more children being born.
There is a big threat to the urban society with more people in there, there are more chances of crime,
like theft, arson, and many other things. Buildings had to be sturdier and were changed because of
the new building codes issued from the state it's in, and the price changed drastically as well.

Hot Stuff Analysis
Many historians regard the 60's as the decade of positive change, particularly for minority groups.
As a result the 1970s, which followed the socially impactful 60's, are often seen as "the decade
where nothing happened" or, more specifically, "nothing good happened". Edward Berkowitz
attempts to break this "nothing happened" stigma through his novel, appropriately named Something
Happened. The decade of the oil crisis, the Watergate scandal, and the Iranian hostage crisis, also
provided legislative progress for many minority groups. Thomas Borstelmann acknowledges the
decade's "formal equality" but is wary to accept that society was as progressive. Alice Echols'
however, asserts that the decade's dance phenomenon expanded social equality, in her novel Hot
Stuff. Echols and Berkowitz unanimously feel the 70's made way for increased acceptance of
minority groups; despite disagreeing on which minority groups benefitted. Borstelmann provides a
much more skeptical analysis stating the 70s provided "formal equality" while "...private prejudice
and its very real negative impacts still endured" Alice Echols applauds the influence the 70s had on
inclusion of previously underrepresented groups; women, homosexuals and African Americans.
"The 1970s are associated with identity politics, but they were also a time when numbers of gay
men, African Americans, and women ditched predictable social script." Echols' analysis of the
decade is presented through the lens of her own

Personal Narrative: I Made Me And I Don T Do Drugs
I don't do drugs; I like to drink, but I don't do drugs. With that said, let me tell you about the time I
did drugs.
There were always drugs around, however, most of my friends and I were big drinkers. Beers,
Tequila, Jack Daniels – we basically drank like grumpy old men. In high school, however, I wasn't
much of a drinker (I have since made up for that).
Being sixteen, my senior year, most of my friends were a grade or two behind me. After graduation,
I worked a job that gave me the use of a company car (and a credit card for gas). Naturally, that
made me the permanent designated driver. In the seventies, being the designated driver didn't mean
you weren't drinking, it just meant you were driving.

On Billy's dresser, I spotted a gathering of pens and loose change; I was positive I could move them

had nothing on me.
Moving across the room I pressed my face against the bedroom window; the glass was cool to the

parking lot below. Then something pulled me back into the room; the music that flowed through the
walls drew me back. The first few notes of 'Stairway to Heaven' found their way into my ears, and in
that instant, it all made sense. Everything. I knew the meaning of life at that exact moment.
Of course, I immediately forgot it when I heard the pounding on the door.

as to why you were so miserable, why was each day getting worse instead of better? This is what it
was like almost every day for the people living in the 1970's. The 1970's was a period of devastation
and desperation which led the citizens of the United States to seek help and comfort from outside
sources, which led to even more devastation for some people who chose to be in groups that made
their problems worse. A lot of people in the 1970's gave up on hope and happiness, feeling that as
time went on, life would get worse; this is when they turned to religion. Religion started to spread

The Temple was part of the cultural trend because it preached religion and gave people the answer's
they had been searching for. It made people feel like they belonged to something and that life was
going to get better despite everything going on with the government. Peoples' Temple compared to
other religious movements in some ways, but it was definitely the deadliest. There were other

Pilot Fatigue Essay

  • 1. Pilot Fatigue Essay Fatigue is a growing concern and issue in the aviation industry. Although it has been for some time, recently mounting workloads and stress have factored into creating an escalating problem with real casualties and repercussions. "Pilot fatigue, heavy workloads... may have contributed to an air ambulance crashing into the sea at night during a medical mission..." (Crash Blamed 2006 p.31). Fatigue is an "insidious" condition that affects a pilot in a way that might make him feel justified in his decisions. (Wald 2008 C3). Without realizing the effects of sleepiness and stress, pilots often times make the wrong decision, believing it to be the right one, and suffering severe consequences, such as: passenger injures, crew injuries or even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many pilots commute to and from the airport where he/she is assigned. This isn't always vehicle commute. A number of pilots travel as a passenger by plane to get to the airport– only to travel once more as the pilot–in–command. "The co–pilot, of a commuter jet that crashed near Buffalo, N.Y., commuted to Newark Airport from her parents' home in Seattle, Washington." (Strickland) This co– pilot has reported earnings of $17,000/year with a regional jet carrier, which brings in the second cause: Salary. "...the cab driver who takes you to the airport makes more than the pilot who's going to fly you..." (Strickland) A pilot's salary, when it is not complimentary of his/her responsibility, is a stress inducer, which contributes more mental baggage that the pilot must carry. Industry Flaws Accentuate Stress/ Lack of Resources System flaws account for scheduling issues. When there are not enough pilots to cope with the heavy traffic flow, the same pilots are being scheduled more often and for longer periods of time. "CAPA has suggested lowering the actual duty time of pilots to 12 hours in a 24–hour period, with a two–hour window to account for delays. The current 16 hours of duty time often makes it difficult for pilots to get an actual 8 hours of rest in each 24–hour period." (82% of Americans...) A resource that is always a concern is money. Many issues and affairs are often decided on money alone. When airline ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Housing In The 1970's A commonly problem faced by the government, business owners and homeowners alike is the homelessness of low–income families, disabled people and seniors that inhabit public housing. These housing projects provide affordable housing through federal funds. The people who instituted it visions and intensions have evolved. Public housing started out very small, buildings only a couple stories tall. They would be paid for through rent paid for by tenants and bonds. The program utilized high–rise buildings in the early 1950's. This typically failed with families, but worked well with the elderly. In the 1970's the price of rent correlated with the income of the tenant. The program became predominantly poor, and a financial gap arose. The low social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So many people, at that time were depended on oil, to keep their cars running. What caused the panic, started when an oil embargo was imposed. This oil embargo was imposed by the members of the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC). In the 1970's homes were almost made to prevent the spread of fire. The National Fire Protection Association or NFPA were making stronger codes and stricter standers for homes. Today they are still in effect, but a fire in today's home can spread five times quicker. The reason why today's home catches on fire quicker is how the house is made of, the house layout, the furniture in the home, and how to prevent such a fire. In 1970's homes were not made with engineered lumber. Engineered lumber is made from wood, chips, sawdust and glue. The lumber is used in 65% of construction. Plywood is the biggest couplet for engineered lumber. The European Science and Research Institute did a test to see what plywood burns faster. They tested many different types of wood that was plywood; however what burned the most was the modified plywood. Even the pine plywood that was runner up was not even close to how fast the modified plywood was burning. During the 70s the plywood people used was the local wood around them. For example cypress plywood is used mainly in Florida and Hemlock was mainly used in and around Tennessee. While today most homes are made of this designed wood that can burn faster. What's even a bigger problem is that firefighters don't want to go into a modern home because of wooden I–beam joints. I–beam joints hold the floor together and if it fails the floor collapses. ... • 33. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Social Media Shrestha 1 Reza Shrestha Sherry Sharifian Government 2305–71013 4th November, 2017 Social Media and Politics Social media is a technology that is computer based and used by people for their research activities and communicating purposes. 1 Social media is a very good platform for people to express their feelings. 2 Some popular social media sites are Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc. For a person, the use of social media can be a boon as well as curse. Effective use of social media can help a person to broaden their knowledge. On the other hand, social media can be harmful if misused. Social media is a public platform and if anything said wrong can result in hurting other people feelings which ultimately creates conflict between individuals or a group. So, social media should be used effectively to gain more knowledge and reduce conflicts. 3 Social media has become a good platform for the elected leaders. 4 They can convey their messages to the general public via social media instead of going to places. It also helps people to give feedbacks on the issues shared by the political leaders through social media. However, politicians should be careful while using the social medias because once the wrong information or message is posted and seen by the public, it can result in decrease in their publicity and it can also result in conflicts among the people. However, the things posted on social media is not always correct. 4 According to the Pew Charitable Trust, the Dallas Police Department tweeted an article to the public stating that the Denver Broncos cornerback Aqib Talib had been arrested for public intoxication. However, that was a social media blunder because it was not Aqib Talib who was arrested but it was his brother Yaqub Talib, who was arrested. This incident shows that a social media blunder can lead to embarrassment and retractions and can affect the politicians or the one who was responsible for the blunder. I recently followed President Donald Trump from 21st October, 2017 to 3rd November, 2017. I noticed that the President uses twitter excessively. Tribal Allegiance and Conflict Creation The ethnicization of politics began when European colonial powers transformed race and tribe into a static entity for the colonial legal project (Mamdani, 2002). Much like the Bantustans completely ethnicized society in apartheid–era South Africa (Handley, 2015), ethnicity became important for the colonial "divide and conquer" strategy throughout the continent. Administrating a large African populace could only be completed through a differentiation of ethnic identities. Unfortunately, most African states maintained this systematic segregation of peoples through decolonization and the post–colonial era. The patrimonial elites that inherited power in the post–colonial government could use this strategy to ensure a longer political rule (Hagg & Kagwanja, 2008). The result of segregation in Kenya recently transformed into political turmoil. Where Kenya is an example of an emerging democracy in the African context, ethnicity is viewed with trepidation (Jung, 2000). Last of all, "Blessing" by Imtiaz Dharker represents the period of the poem written in nineteen eighty–nine, which is post–modern. First and foremost, temperatures were sweltering. In fact, the hottest day was on April seventh with a high temperature of forty degrees Celsius (WeatherSpark Beta). This connects to the poem because it deals with a hot country where dehydration is quite normal. Since the poem takes place in the slums in Mumbai, India, "There is never enough water" (2) for the villagers to consume and the great degree of heat causes more problems to their health. Adding to that, the humidity was high. June to September were the stickiest months (WeatherSpark Beta), which led to thirst, and the skin cracking "...like a pod" (1). In fact, with a daily average low humidity of seventy–eight percent, August was the most humid month (WeatherSpark Beta). The weather conditions of Mumbai itself were described as reasonably hot with soaring levels of humidity (Climate of Mumbai). All of these situations link to the poem because the villagers need water when the weather is hot and sticky to keep their bodies hydrated and functioning. • 53. Environmental Inequality In The 1970's Introduction The atmosphere of the 1950s to 1970s can be described as a time of intense turmoil in American history. In the 1960s there was a change in the way people viewed the environment and what as a nation they were doing to destroy it. Women again rose up to combat oppression inequality during the 1960s, as they have done in the past before. The Civil Rights came with a powerful force of change for the minorities of the United States and paved the way for other Movement to arise. In the trying times of the chaotic 1950's to 1970s three of the most influential movements of their time emerged, the Environmental Movement, Women's Movement, and the Civil Rights movement, all would go onto changing the American way of life. Environmental Movement Just like the bald eagle the American way of life in the 1960s was killing America and the animal in the environment. Chemical sprayed in the air to ward off bugs like DDT was contaminating the water supply, killing the fish and harming the animals who drank from it. So in the mid 60s Congress passed a law prohibiting the use of DDT in the United States. As news of America's environmental arose the public began to organise small environment movements which played a big role in attracting the attention of the government, which passed the Clean Air and Water ... • 61. Drugs In The 1970's The war on drugs was and is racist for several reasons. It was used to jail African Americans and hippies in the early 1970's, keep more people of color in jail for, and to deport immigrants. In June 1971 President Nixon declared the war on drugs to jail those who would vote against him. Two small but loud groups, hippies and African Americans and hippies were against Nixon. At the time these two groups were stereotyped as heavy marijuana users. After Nixon, jail sentences were then lengthened for possession of marijuana to unreasonable and illogical lengths. Then during the 1990's, when Bill Clinton was president, the number of policemen was dramatically raised. The number was raised so much that there was not enough money for sufficient training ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After this Marijuana would then take another rise in society and then another dip during the 1920's jazz age. The Jazz age at the time was influenced partially by the drug but no more than it was already influencing other parts of society. Sadly, the new music was considered extremely edgy like rock and roll was when it was first being developed. Another key fact about this time was that the Jazz was being created by African Americans like Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, and more. It was Harry Anslinger who hated this music, marijuana, and African Americans so much that he started the war on marijuana. Anslinger fully believed in hardcore racism when it came to demonizing weed. Unfortunately, Harry Anslinger became the first commissioner of the Federal Bureau of Narcotics, which was a predecessor to the DEA. Anslinger started this war on marijuana with alternative facts such as, "Marijuana makes a murderer who kills for the love of killing out of the mildest mannered man who ever laughed at the idea that any habit could ever get him" and, "Marijuana is the most violence causing drug in the history of mankind. Most marijuana smokers are negroes, Hispanics, Filipinos, and entertainers." And that "Marijuana leads to pacifism and communist brainwashing". The miraculous thing is that these quotes are some of Anslinger's most truthful quotes. Some of his more inaccurate and racist quotes include, "There are 100,000 total marijuana smokers in the US, and most are Negroes, Hispanics, Filipinos, and entertainers, their satanic music, jazz and swing, result from marijuana usage. This marijuana causes white women to seek sexual relations with Negroes, entertainers and any others." And, "The primary reason to outlaw marijuana is its effect on degenerate races. From the time of the cavemen, and to present day, we've used architecture. Everything that you see in front of you is a form of architecture: a pencil, a piece of paper, and even a lollipop is architecture. Someone out there had an idea to put things together to form something new. Atoms are the building blocks of the world, and they combine with other elements to make a new compound, like H2O, or also known as water. • 67. Hot Stuff Analysis Many historians regard the 60's as the decade of positive change, particularly for minority groups. As a result the 1970s, which followed the socially impactful 60's, are often seen as "the decade where nothing happened" or, more specifically, "nothing good happened". Edward Berkowitz attempts to break this "nothing happened" stigma through his novel, appropriately named Something Happened. The decade of the oil crisis, the Watergate scandal, and the Iranian hostage crisis, also provided legislative progress for many minority groups. Thomas Borstelmann acknowledges the decade's "formal equality" but is wary to accept that society was as progressive. Alice Echols' however, asserts that the decade's dance phenomenon expanded social equality, in her novel Hot Stuff. Echols and Berkowitz unanimously feel the 70's made way for increased acceptance of minority groups; despite disagreeing on which minority groups benefitted. Borstelmann provides a much more skeptical analysis stating the 70s provided "formal equality" while "...private prejudice and its very real negative impacts still endured" Alice Echols applauds the influence the 70s had on inclusion of previously underrepresented groups; women, homosexuals and African Americans. "The 1970s are associated with identity politics, but they were also a time when numbers of gay men, African Americans, and women ditched predictable social script."
