Veiled Sentiment Essay
Discourse is verbal and non–verbal way of exchanging thoughts and feelings. Although in Veiled
Sentiments, Bedouin people seemed to be sharing the same opinions and emotions privately as well
as in public, noticeable contrast between the public and private discourses existed. In this paper, I
will try to clarify the distinction and provide an example of a discourse from my everyday life.
Discourse is a long talk or piece of writing about a subject that serves as a tool to exchange ideas
and sentiments. Michael Foucault presents possibly the best definition of discourse. He says,
"Discourse is the systems of thoughts composed of ideas, attitudes, and courses of action, beliefs
and practices that systematically construct the subjects and the worlds of which they speak." In
Veiled Sentiments, it was mainly about poetic letters and conversations Bedouin natives used to
communicate with each other. However, Bedouins shared different content in their discourses in
public and in private situations and poetry certainly signified the disparity. Public discourses were
used with particular intentions. Generally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bedouins would reveal their true sentiments towards certain matters or other people in their private
poems. Women shared their poems only with their relatives, friends or neighbors. Men, also limited
the group of people they shared private poems to their relatives of the same generation and men
with the same level of status. Romance was an exception to that rule. Couples were allowed to
exchange private poems with each other to express feelings and affection. Another point worth
mentioning is that Bedouins never wrote their names after any poems. People would understand the
meaning of a poem if it was written to them, without knowing the author. At the same time, this
tradition protected the authors from embarrassment or issues when poems ended up in wrong

Declaration of Sentiments by Elizabeth Cady
Over the course of many years, women have struggled to expand their roles and rights in society,
hoping to one day achieve complete equality with their male counterparts. Two women, Elizabeth
Cady Stanton and Judy (Syfers) Brady, both recognized the patriarchal society in which women had
to endure. They despised the way it heaped inequality and servitude upon women, and decided to
assert their opinion on the issue in order to change the perceptions and imposed limitations on
women. In Stanton's speech, "Declaration of Sentiments", and in Brady's article, "I Want a Wife",
both women attempt to convince their audiences that females deserve complete equality with men
by stating the submissive situations and obligations women find themselves immersed in. This is
done to get their female audiences to reevaluate how they have been treated and give them a second
chance at attaining equality. Both women employ various rhetorical techniques in their arguments to
strengthen, as well as compel other women to oppose the 'domesticated' image of women. Elizabeth
Cady Stanton and Judy (Syfers) Brady expressed their views in pursuance of forging a path to a
revamped lifestyle for women. In Judy (Syfers) Brady's article, "I Want a Wife", she expresses her
opinions in a satirical commentary that offers hypothetical criteria for an ideal wife, with an
underlying message that deals with how people should be grateful for all of the deeds and chores
that women do. Brady utilizes the strategy of

Declaration Of Sentiments Analysis
The "Declaration of Sentiments" authored by Elizabeth Cady Stanton from the Seneca Falls
Convention is a document that insists in written form that the government should allow women to
practice their rights. Back then, women were not allowed to vote or use their voice but, now during
the times "The Awakening" was written by Kate Chopin, women had more privileges and rebellious
attitude. The main character, Edna Pontellier has more freedom and self–rule than any other woman
back in 1848.
The purpose of the "Declaration of Sentiments" is that to release the oppression from the
government giving to women, to state that men and women are created equal. The document stated
that "In the covenant of marriage, she is compelled to promise obedience to her husband, he
becoming, to all intents and purposes, her master–the law giving him power to deprive her of her
liberty, and to administer chastisement."(Stanton.9) Explaining that no matter what, the woman is
seen as an object in the eyes of the court, not as a human, treated as property. Women were
submissive and were deprived of education. The women had only one thing to do, ... Show more

The author stated, "He reproached his wife with her inattention, her habitual neglect of the
children." (Stanton.9) Demonstrating that even though Edna is ignoring her children's needs, his
children, Leonce will never hit her as for punishment. Showcasing that she gets to use her voice, she
gets to get away with not being the proper mother as women were once before. She is allowed to
have a friendship with another man and not be seen as a scandalous woman in the society. She has
more freedom than the previous woman had, sunbathing with her dear Robert. Since she is a Creole,
who is not oppressed by cultural norms, her husband does not see that as a threat but that does not
mean he stops seeing her as an object like others men

Declaration Of Sentiment Analysis
In 1848, Elizabeth Stanton and Lucretia Mott organized a women's rights convention. The
convention was held to address the social, civil, and religious condition and rights of women. The
first day meeting began with women exclusively invited, the second day was held for the public
which included men. Elizabeth wrote the Declaration of Sentiments which is a disquisition about
women's right and their role in society. In the SENECA FALLS WOMEN'S RIGHTS
CONVENTION, the author emphasizes the importance of women's participation in leadership roles
in society. By mimicking the Declaration of Independence Stanton was able to speak amongst many
who were concerned about equality with men before the law, in education, and employment. During
the 18th century, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Men had more rights in governmental affairs such as owning property, attending institutions, and
voting. However, women did not have a voice about political and social economical issues. The
Declaration of Independence states that all men are created equal ;however women are discounted.
In the treatise she states, "The history of mankind is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations on
the part of man toward woman, having in direct object the establishment of an absolute tyranny over
her. To prove this, let facts be submitted to a candid world." This specific line portrays women as
objects of mistreatment and women will therefore put an end to it. The Declaration of Sentiments
also addresses the religious conditions and rights of women by stating,"He has usurped the
prerogative of Jehovah himself, claiming it as his right to assign for her a sphere of action, when
that belongs to her conscience and to her God" meaning that he is telling her what to do which only
God should be her only leader. However, not only did this create issues for women, but also an
argument sprawled between African American men voters and women. It was argued that women
should have the right to vote over African American men

Research Paper On Sentiment Analysis
Abstract
Due to the large volume of opinion rich web resources like twitter, Face book, blogs and news
available in digital form, much of the current research is focusing on the area of sentiment analysis
using text analysis. People are getting attracted to develop a system that can extract opinions based
on their response on social media sites. Algorithms can be developed so as to predict preferences of
people to improve economic and marketing research. This paper presents a sentiment analysis on a
recent scenario of Uri Attack.

Sentiment analysis concentrates on attitudes, whereas the traditional method of text mining mainly
focuses on the analysis of facts. There are few main fields of research in Sentiment analysis:
sentiment classification, feature based sentiment classification and opinion summarization.
Sentiment classification deals with classifying entire document according to the opinions shown
with respect to a certain object. While feature–based sentiment classification considers the opinions
on the features of a certain object. Opinion summarization task is different compared to traditional
text summarization because only the features of the product are examined on which the customers
have expressed their opinions via any social media. Opinion summarization does not summarize the
reviews by selecting a subset or rewriting some of the original sentences from the reviews to capture
the main points like in the classic text summarization

Essay On Sentiment Classification
The aspect–level sentiment analysis overcomes this problem and performs the sentiment
classification taking the particular aspect into consideration. There can be a situation where the
sentiment holder may express contrasting sentiments for the same product, object, organization etc
Techniques for sentiment analysis is generally partitioned as (1) machine learning approach, (2)
lexicon–based approach and (3) combined approach (Meddhat et al., 2014a). There are two
approaches for the lexicon–based approach. First one is the dictionarybased approach and the
second one is the corpus–based approach that utilizes the factual or semantic strategy for
discovering the polarity. The dictionary–based approach is based on finding the sentiment seed ...

Some combined rule algorithms were proposed in (Medhat et al., 2008a). Therefore, a study on
decision tree and decision rule problem is done by Quinlan (1986). Probabilistic Classifier
Probabilistic classifiers make the utilization of blend of models for classification. Every class is
considered to be a component of the mixed model. We have described various probabilistic
classifiers for sentiment analysis problem in the next subsection. 4.1.1.4.1 Naive Bayes Classifier
(NB). It is the frequently used classifier in sentiment analysis. In sentiment analysis, naive Bayes
classifier calculates the posterior probability of either positive class or negative class depending on
the sentiment words distributed over the document. The work of naïve Bayes classifier is based on
the Bag–of–word extraction of features in which the word's position is overlooked in the whole text.
This classifier uses the Bayes theorem. It calculates the probability for the sentiment word in a
document and tells whether that word belongs to the positive or negative class. The probability can
be calculated using the given formula. This assumption results in Bayesian Network. A Bayesian
network is a directed acyclic graph containing nodes and edges, where nodes denote the random
variables and the edges denote the conditional dependencies. It is a conditional exponential
classifier that takes the feature sets with label and converts them into

The Declaration Of Sentiments And Resolutions
Feminism in the United States:
The Declaration of Sentiments

November 26, 2014 Introduction
In the year 1848, Elizabeth Cady Stanton conveyed to the audience of the Seneca Falls Convention
the Declaration of Sentiments and Resolutions . The Declaration of Sentiments was written with the
purpose of demanding civil freedom for women and of righting the wrongs of society. The
Declaration included events where women's rights were being oppressed and violated and where
laws were giving special treatment to men. It also included the resolutions they demanded on these
particular cases.
In addition, the Declaration was written due to the fact that women in all parts of the globe were
being oppressed for many years. The women in many countries, just like in the United States of
America, were given a limited set of rights in the society compared to their male counterparts. One
great example of this was the women's suffrage in the United States, which was not inherently given
to them until its national enactment in the year 1920.
Analysis
The document was specifically written for women and the events that revolved around their poor
conditions in the past. It was also evident that one of its objectives was to promote and endorse
feminism. This was due to the fact that women in America were being oppressed up until the mid–
20th century. As Martha C. Wright indicated, the American women at the time, specifically the
wives,

These books are in common by the woman characters having no freedom and feeling trapped by
their husbands. In the Declaration of Independence, it was all about men and what men's rights
were. The Declaration of Sentiments allows women to have freedom and rights, before they were
trapped by their husbands. Their husbands had all the control over their wives until The Declaration
of Sentiments. The Yellow Wallpaper is a story about a wife that feels trapped by her husband. She
loves to write but her husband will not allow to do the things she loves. The character feels very
depressed, lonely, and trapped. Similarly to the Story of an Hour, the woman is depressed and felt
captivated by her husband also. She is so unbearably happy when she thinks her husband died,
because she can sense freedom beginning. Although, her husband is not dead and returns to the
house, this is so incredibly shocking and heartbreaking the wife dies. Female authors tend towards
more selfless and passionate stories. The Story of an Hour and The Yellow Wallpaper are examples
of selfless and passionate stories. They both are selfless by not having freedom and feeling
controlled by their husbands. Also, the two stories are passionate because they want freedom but
also love their husband. They just want to be free without being controlled by their

The Declaration Of Sentiments By Elizabeth Cady Stanton
There are many important documents in history that have influenced the lives of women today, but
possibly none more important than the "Declaration of Sentiments" by Elizabeth Cady Stanton. The
declaration was able to make an extremely strong and memorable impact, not only for the ideas
presented in it, but also for its strong rhetoric and use of figurative language such as anaphora and
syntax; also, notable is its imitation of the "Declaration of Independence". Though written over one
hundred years ago, the declaration written at the Seneca Falls Convention addressing women's
rights has made influences still felt today including but not limited to the right to vote, gender
equality in the eyes of the law, and even just simple things such as women wearing pants or the
confidence of young girls.
The "Declaration of Sentiments" was written by Elizabeth Cady Stanton after women, including her
activist counterpart Lucretia Mott, had been barred from participation in the abolition movement.
Being told they could not take part greatly angered women because they were being continually told
that they were inferior to men and only had use for looking pretty and birthing children. When
women were unable to participate in the abolition movement they began to feel that they were
lacking in rights as well and needed to start their own movement. On July 19, 1848 Mott and
Stanton held the Women's Rights Convention in Seneca Falls, New York. There, she wrote a
document that would change

Women 's Rights Convention : The Seneca Falls Convention
Meeting Lucretia Mott lead to one of Stanton's greatest accomplishments which was the world's first
women's rights convention, the Seneca Falls Convention. "The Seneca Falls Convention, a gathering
on behalf of women's rights held in the upstate New York town where Stanton lived, raised the issue
of woman's suffrage for the first time" (Foner 452). This was a huge milestone to spread the word
about women 's equality in the United States. It was the first women's convention, so it gathered a
lot of hype and attention to women's need of rights. There's no reason why women should not get
the right to vote, or the right of education just because their gender. Thankfully, "the convention was
the beginning of the 70 year struggle woman's suffrage" (Foner 453). Stanton helped spread the
voice of women and their own ideas about rights. With the men being dominant in the society, it was
difficult to lead the way of women 's rights, but the Seneca Falls Convention started it all. At first,
they had to get the word out that the Seneca Falls Convention is happening. With the help of Martha
Wright, Mary Ann McClintock and Jane Hunt; Cady and Mott published the event in the Seneca
County Courier. The article read that the convention examined the social and religious rights of
women. It is hosted at Wesleyan Chapel in Seneca Falls on July 19th and 20th at 10 A.M. The article
claimed that the 19th is reserved for only women and the 20th is welcomed for anyone to attend.

The Methods For Sentiment Analysis
III. APPROACHES OF SENTIMENT
ANALYSIS.
Sentiment analysis consists of various elements out of which lexicons are an integral part. These
lexicons are nothing but the words which make up a sentence. These lexicons can also be known as
sentiment lexicon or opinion lexicons. It is important that we classify the lexicons we have into
positives or negatives in order to achieve review analysis. One of the methods for sentiment analysis
and classification is done on the basis of these lexicons. There are two broad approaches for
sentiment analysis. These are lexicon based approaches and machine learning based approaches.
These approaches are further divided into different methods as shown in the figure given below.
Fig. 2 Sentiment analysis flow
Let us consider each approach in more detail.
A) Machine Learning Approaches
Machine learning methods include the concepts from soft computing field. These methods are
classified as supervised and unsupervised methods. The supervised methods can either be
probabilistic classifiers else it can be linear classifiers. Probabilistic classifiers include algorithms
which use probability to find the classification and then separate the lexicons based on probabilistic
calculations. In this approach we use data driven methods, which include the following algorithms.
a. Naïve Baye's Classifier: This algorithm includes the use of Baye's theorem for determining the

Plate One shows the invitation to drink pulling the fact that men were the ones getting together and
drinking the alcohol. Plate two shows that because the man decided to go out and rink for a night he

Essay Contest: The Declaration of Sentiments
In the Declaration of Sentiments, author Elizabeth Cady Stanton expresses her anger of the
oppression experienced by women in the United States. After being rejected to attend the World's
Anti–Slavery convention in London, Stanton was frustrated because she was being rejected for
being a woman. This motivated Stanton to share her own ideas on advocating women's rights and
changing the way women are treated in society because of the mistreatment done to her, as well as
many women across the nation waiting for their voices to be heard. Stanton parallels the Declaration
of Sentiments with the Declaration of Independence by using laws that the male population regarded
as righteous and including how it had negative effects on over half the American population. This
put into question male authority and supremacy, creating a more concrete argument by revealing
what men already have under the law, to what women should have. The sophistication of the
Declaration of Sentiments to a document that the U.S. government values highly, threatens the
values of the U.S. by making women's rights a more pressing issue. The Declaration of Sentiments
targeted the U.S. government and the population by appealing to their own opinions and beliefs in
order to recognize that women were being treated like second–class citizens. Although the

Aesthetic Sentiment and Judgement According to David Hume, a great philosopher in 18th century,
"Beauty in things exists in the mind which contemplates them." As a result, "good art" is the
judgement of individual base on their positive sentiment toward an artwork, and that is called the
taste of art. Besides, David Hume also believes there is something will make an artwork better than
others. To experience that belief, after falling in love with two artworks–"A Bull Fight" and "The

art to state that "A Bull Fight" is better artwork than "The Bonaventure Pine" even though both are
beautiful.
The first interesting artwork is "A Bull Fight" by Jacquez Raymond Brascassat (1804–1867), who is
a French artist. "A Bull Fight" is a European art, painted with oil on canvas medium, and published
in 1855. Its dimensions are about 57x75 inches, which show a close ratio to the real objects. This is

What Is The Logos In The Declaration Of Sentiments
"The Declarations of Sentiments and Resolutions" by Elizabeth Cady Stanton is an interesting and
persuasive essay on women's rights and equality. The essay uses pathos, logos, and ethos to capture
the reader's attention and draw them in into this argumentative piece. Each appeal deeply exercises
the importance of equality for both men and women. Throughout her essay, Stanton uses pathos,
logos, and ethos to draw the reader's attention and persuade them to stand up for women inequality.
This document has a very distinct pathetic appeal created by the passion and determination for
freedom. For example, Stanton says, "In the covenant of marriage, she is compelled to promise
obedience to her husband...the law giving him power to deprive her of her liberty." This sentence
conveys to the readers that women are nothing but servants to their "master." It also shows how
women are just known as "objects" that men can use. Furthermore, the Stanton is using logos to
show the audience facts on how men are controlling of women. For example, Stanton says, "The

The book, Veiled Sentiments: Honor and Poetry in a Bedouin Society, by author and anthropologist,
Lila Abu–Lughod, who is best known for her work on women's issues in the middle east, presents
two years of fieldwork in Egypt among the Awlad' Ali Bedouin community who have gone from
living a nomadic lifestyle , a farming system where animals are transported from one area to another
in search for fresh grazing land, to living in villages where smuggling, raising animals, and doing

When reading Veiled Sentiments, I got the impression that the existing social hierarchy among the
Awlad' Ali was based on gender, age, wisdom, and wealth, "Women are always dependent," and "
the powerful have obligations and responsibilities to protect and care for the weak. The weaker
members epitomized by the helpless infant, and by extension all children. (p.80–81)" Abu– Lughod
did a good job depicting the ways that the social hierarchy works, by including terminology such as
wliyya, and by vividly describing situations where women, and children seemed weaker than the
adult males in the community, who in most situations appeared to be the head of households. The
author also goes further into the ideals of the Awlad' Ali by discussing the relations between female
modesty (hasham), "natural inferiority", and sexuality. She depicts the ideal woman in the eyes of
the Bedouin people, describing her as soft spoken, and "well–behaved," and with no open thoughts
on sexuality. Apart from discussing the importance of hasham in a woman, Abu– Lughod points out
that emotion of love and affection between men and women is a taboo. Men that show emotion
towards a woman are seen to be weak and are shunned upon by their male peers, as well as women
in the community. "Women claim, for instance, that "real men" control all their dependents and beat

The Declaration of Sentiments: Elizabeth Cady Stanton
In the early 1840s, women began standing and fighting for the basic rights they deserved. Women
had always been viewed as lesser than men, and many women of the time were ready to object that
idea. Some women were fine with how they were being blindly mistreated, but Elizabeth Cady
Stanton was one of the women ready for a change. With the help of her colleague Lucretia Mott,
Stanton organized the Seneca Falls Convention in her hometown of Seneca Falls located in upstate
New York. This event was the first of its kind; therefore, it took very strong and dedicated women to
compose the convention. The convention's main focus was Stanton's Declaration of Sentiments on

At this time in history, most women worked in the home, this included: taking care of children,
cooking, and cleaning. Women were viewed as delicate nurturers who should stay home. In this
quote, "He has taken from her all right in property, even to the wages she earns," Stanton is saying
that even if somehow a woman made money, it belonged to her husband. To some men, their wives
were seen as objects rather than human beings. If a single woman owned property, "he taxed her to
support a government which recognizes her only when her property can be made profitable to it."
Gender roles in society during the 1840s led to mental oppression of women. Men had always been
seen as the 'head of the house' or the 'breadwinner' forcing women to think they had no power to do
anything. Stanton describes this as women being "compelled to promise obedience to her husband,
he becoming, to all intents and purposes, her master–the law giving him power to deprive her of her
liberty." Sounds a lot like slavery, doesn't it?
"He has endeavored, in every way that he could, to destroy her confidence in her own powers, to
lessen her self–respect, and to make her willing to lead a dependent and abject life." Men believed

Declaration Of Sentiments Argument
The Declaration of Sentiments was an extremely influential document because it demanded civil
liberties for women in the first women's rights convention. This is important as it shows women
were no longer afraid from challenging current social barriers. In the first paragraph, Stanton makes
it very clear how fiercely she's advocating for these rights. She argues that rights should be given
because all people were created equal. God, as she puts it, did not give one individual the power to
rule over others, regardless of different characteristics (e.g. gender and race). By using "God" in this
context, it shows Stanton as a religious person; therefore, someone who believes in a higher power
than government and men. However, it was noted in the

Elizabeth Stanton's Declaration Of Sentiments And Resolutions
A Women's Fight for Equality Elizabeth Stanton delivered one of the most historical speeches in
U.S history in 1848. Her speech, "Declaration of Sentiments and Resolutions" was a fight for
women's rights. Elizabeth Stanton was a mother, highly accomplished and well educated. She began
to relish the fact that women had a lack of advancement opportunities, and were especially
constricted compared to men. She gave her speech at the Seneca Falls convention, and caught the
attention of many with her compelling speech tactics. Stanton wrote her speech structured after our
nations "Declaration of Independence". She also persuaded others to see the truth behind her
arguments by claims of natural rights. Finally Stanton uses a pathos strategy ... Show more content

These rights are stated as "Life, Liberty, and Pursuit of happiness". Elizabeth tries to show that these
natural rights cannot be achieved by women if they do not have the equal opportunities that men
have. One of her most famous quotes is; "He has taken from her all right in property, even to the
wages she earns..." (Stanton). As stated before property is a natural right, and Stanton shows that
this was taken away from women by not granting them the right to their own property or labor
wages, again highlighting the fact the rights were only given to men. The pursuit of happiness was
an immensely emphasized right that was not given to women through–out her speech. How can
women be happy when not being able to do the things they wish to do? That's a question Stanton
often asked herself when analyzing the right she was being deprived of. Elizabeth said "He has
denied her the facilities for obtaining a thorough education – all colleges being closed against her."
(Stanton). Her statement about women being denied the rights to a fair and thorough education
stressed the point of women's desire to gain access to the same facilities as men, but being denied
from doing so. This was yet another example to show her audience the absence of natural rights for

A Machine Learning Approach For Emotions Classification
A machine learning approach for emotions classification in Micro blogs ABSTRACT Micro
blogging today has become a very popular communication tool among Internet users. Millions of
users share opinions on different aspects of life every day. Therefore micro blogging web–sites are
rich sources of data for opinion mining and sentiment analysis. Because micro blogging has
appeared relatively recently, there are a few research works that are devoted to this topic. In this
paper, we are focusing on using Twitter, which is an amazing microblogging tool and an
extraordinary communication medium for text and social web analyses. We will try to classify the
emotions in to 6 basic discrete emotional categories such as anger, disgust, fear, joy, sadness and
surprise. Keywords : Emotion Analysis; Sentiment Analysis; Opinion Mining; Text Classification 1.
INTRODUCTION Sentiment analysis or opinion mining is the computational study of opinions,
sentiments and emotions expressed in text. Sentiment analysis refers to the general method to
extract subjectivity and polarity from text.It uses a machine learning approach or a lexicon based
approach to analyse human sentiments about a topic..The challenge for sentimental analysis lies in
identifying human emotions expressed in these text. The classification of sentiment analysis goes as

Declaration Of Sentiments Summary
Document interpretation of Declarations of Sentiments The Declarations of Sentiments was written
in 1848, by Elizabeth Cady Stanton, she explains the way the women of her ere were oppressed, and
that they want more rights, not so much because they are women, but because their human. It also
says that men tend to monopolize all jobs that are associated with wealth or education, so there is
really no place for a woman to grow in society, therefore she becomes societally dead, for lack of
better words. Several years earlier in 1836 an article about the "Female Workers of Lowell" was
written, explaining the harsh working conditions that women had to face, I think that this was
something that really encouraged the women to fight back, because they were either worked to the
bone, or married and societally dead. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It takes a lot for a group of oppressed to stand against the normality of life, their husbands, and the
government, to do this you must have conviction, and backing from your peers. I wonder if this was
this hard to do? Sometimes people only think one way because they've never been exposed to
another way of thinking, other times we want to take a stand, but need a leader, someone to give us
a little push. If it was such a normality, could it have been forbidden way of

Individualism In The Declaration Of Sentiments By Kate Chopin
Individualism is the idea of being independent and acting on what is considered to be freedom. And
these three individuals: Cady Stanton which perfectly portrays early women's rights movement in
her pleasant piece the Declaration of Sentiments in which she talks about how women are
equivalent to men, Kate Chopin is also a good example of early feminism with her short story A
Story Of An Hour which she conveys the character Louise Mallard a women who lost her husband
and felt joy of knowing she will experience freedom for the very first time in her life, and as for
Frederick Douglass he perfectly model what a true individual is by fighting for anti–slavery in his
stunning piece What To The Slave Is The Fourth Of July? In which he gives a profound speech on
why he does not celebrate Fourth Of July. Individualism in the 19th century was fighting for what a
certain group of people considered to be "freedom" without the importance of what others thought.
Cady Stanton represents individualism because she believed women and men were all created
equally and should have the same rights men had during 18th century to the early 19th century. In
the Declaration of Sentiments by Seneca Falls Convention Stanton states "We hold the these truths
to be self–evident: that all men and women are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator
with certain inalienable rights..."(164). This is important because it shows that women as well as
men are supposed to be equal because we are both born with these rights, she went even deeper by
stating that these rights "...are endowed by their Creator"(164) in which the Creator being God in
this occasion and that we have the right to these rights. This document is also written with the same
type of wording as the Declaration of Independence. For example, in the Declaration of
Independence it opens up almost every sentence with "He has..."(Jefferson 65) in which the
Declaration of Sentiments also starts with the "He has..."(165) but instead of saying what the British
didn't let them do like the Declaration of Independence the Declaration of Sentiments took another
turn and ended up saying all rights men deprived from them. This is significant because it displays
the injustices that women

Theme Chart Analysis
Using the Grounds Theory approach our group determined and analyzed the common themes on
social media surrounding the Toms Shoes brand. We created a Theme chart and a sub–theme chart
from the largest theme. These charts can be seen below. The top three themes were 1) Social Justice,
which was mainly comprised of soundbites focused on the Toms One For One motto and their
positive impact on those less fortunate 2) Style, which was largely focused on the look of the shoes
and 3) what we named Purchase/ want, this category was comprised of soundbites in which people
were talking about a purchase they had just made or stating that they really wanted to purchase a
certain pair, more pairs or every pair of Toms. We have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then we set the custom date range from April 10th, 2012 to June 15th, 2012. There were 621
mentions. People mentioned One Day Without Shoes mostly on the event date and then it began to
decrease and stopped within a week. There were 88% positive and 12% negative comments. Some
people thought it was nasty and gross to go without shoes in crowded or public areas, but the
majority thought that it supported a good cause and were willing as well as excited to join the
campaign. Many people shared their good experience of being barefoot on that day, which is what
we expected. However, similar to the analysis of the pre event date, the number of mentions quite
still pretty small. Most of the stream came from twitter.
We recommend Toms improve their campaign. Not entirely change the campaign but make a minor
change in order to make it more exciting and so that it is not exactly the same every year. We think
that this will help boost participation and therefore awareness of the brands mission. One way Toms
could accomplish this is by arranging a video competition, which would ask people to make their
own video doing their daily activities barefoot. They would then be asked to post the videos on
Toms Facebook. Whomevers video got the most 'likes' would win a reward or prize. Perhaps even a
trip to one of the countries where Toms gives there shoes away so that the dedicated customer could

Sentiment Analysis : Customer Review Data
Sentiment Analysis of Customer Review Data
Sentiment analysis is the process of identification and extraction of subjective information from
unstructured data. Some of the common applications of sentiment analysis are, understanding the
voice of the customer, voice of the market, the voice of the employee, brand management, financial
markets, politics and government intelligence.
The objective of the sentiment analysis in the case of Suite Spot would be to increase customer
satisfaction based on the sentiment analysis of the customer review data and other available data
about the customer and reservation, available from Kayak. This is where a sentiment analysis can
offer much more value when compared to a traditional analysis on the customer review data. The
key to this is the availability of real–time data about the hotel from customers. In a connected world
where information is continuously flowing in the form of tweets, Facebook, and other social media
posts, getting real–time sentiment analysis data and acting on the data would help create a
competitive advantage for the Suite Spot chain of hotels.
First we have to keep track of all the customers who are currently staying in a Suite Spot hotel. As
soon as the customer checks in, his customer data is collected from Kayak. Kayak keep track of the
social media connections of a customer, like Google+ and Facebook accounts. After retrieving the
social media connections of the customers staying in a Suite Spot hotel,

Declaration Of Sentiments Rhetorical Analysis
The opening paragraph of Elizabeth Cady Stanton's Declaration of Sentiments, which narrates,
"When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary...," (Stanton 1), along with the title
itself reveals a connection to Thomas Jefferson's Declaration of Independence. Elizabeth Cady
Stanton wrote the declaration after being excluded from the World Anti–Slavery convention, much
like how the colonists were excluded from British Parliament. Declaration of Sentiments lists the
grievances of women, which is another similarly to Jefferson's Declaration of Independence where
he lists the grievances of the colonists. Stanton introduced her Declaration of Sentiments at the
Seneca Falls Convention, which further conveys similarity to Jefferson's Declaration of
Independence as his Declaration of Independence was introduced at the Second Continental
Congress. Stanton, modeling her Declaration of Sentiments after Jefferson's Declaration of
Independence, uses anaphora, the rhetorical triangle, allusions, personification, and harsh diction to
achieve her effect of inspiring change to the benefit of women in society, similar to how Thomas
Jefferson inspired change in the colonies through his Declaration of Independence. In order to
emphasize and organize her points about the grievances of women in Declaration of Sentiments,
Stanton uses anaphora in like manner to the way Jefferson uses it in Declaration of Independence. In
most of Stanton's paragraphs between lines 28 and 70 of her

Declaration of Sentiments
The Declarations of sentiments was arguably the most significant document in
history for the advancement of women in the nineteenth century America. It was made
famous at the first Woman's Rights Convention, held in Seneca Falls, New York, in July
of 1848. Drafted by Elizabeth Cady Stanton, the declaration outlined a series of
grievances resulting from the unfair treatment of women and proposed eleven resolutions
arguing that women had the right to equality in all aspects of their lives, including the
right to vote. Despite the declarations significance, however, it would be seventy–two
years later that women finally won the right to vote.

protested unequal employment opportunities. Stanton read the declaration paragraph by
paragraph, and over the two–days of discussion, the Declaration of Sentiments and 12
resolutions received agreement endorsement, one by one, with a few amendments.
The only resolution that did not pass unanimously was the call for women's
authorization.
The Seneca Falls convention generated widespread ridicule and even hostility,
primarily from religious leaders and the press. An article in the Philadelphia Public
Ledger and Daily Transcript (September 1848) opined that, unlike the Seneca Falls
women, the women of Philadelphia were "celebrated for discretion, modesty, and
unfeigned diffidence" rather than "standing out for woman's rights." After all, the writer
reasoned, "A woman is nobody. A wife is everything. A pretty girl is equal to ten
thousand men, and a mother is, next to God, all powerful......The ladies of Philadelphia,
3 Metz
therefore.....are resolved to maintain their rights as wives, belles, virgins, and mothers,
and not as women" (Stanton, Anthony, and Gage, p. 804).
Women's rights conventions were held on a regular basis until the start of the
Civil War. Elizabeth Cady Stanton traveled the country lecturing and organizing for

I have recently acquired and read The Declaration of Sentiments, and I found the interest of telling
you the three grievances I found most important and least important about the declaration. I will
start by listing the three most important grievances, followed by listing the three least important
grievances of the document. The first of the most important grievances is, "He has withheld from
her rights which are given to the most ignorant and degraded men––both natives and foreigners"
(Stanton, 70–71). I found this grievance most important because men allowed people with little to
no education the rights that intelligent and diligent women were not allowed. This restraint showed
that women were not worth as much as men and I personally do

The Declaration Of Sentiments And Resolutions
In the article "Donald Trump Assails His Accusers as Liars, and Unattractive" by Alexander Burns
and Nick Corasaniti, Trump denied claims of sexual assault against him. Trump has dismissed these
claims by calling the women "liars" and has insisted that they just want fame (Burns and
Corasaniti). His assertions have been believed by many of his supporters. The allegations against
him have not hurt his chance at presidency as much as most would have thought. Some Republicans
have dropped their endorsement of Trump or have criticized his actions, but many others have
continued to strongly back him (Burns and Corasaniti). Many have agreed that his offensive remarks
towards women are simply "locker room talk" and that "boys will be boys" (Burns and Corasaniti).
It is hard to imagine that a female could have said equally as offensive remarks and had it dismissed
as quickly. Double standards between genders have been going on for a very long time. In 1848,
Elizabeth Cady Stanton wrote "The Declaration of Sentiments and Resolutions" to point out the
double standards that women face. She offered solutions to all of the problems and was a big
advocate for gender equality. Stanton wrote, "We hold these truths to be self–evident: that all men
and women are created equal" ("The Declaration"). It is such a simple statement, but for some
reason it does not hold true today. Because many people have fought against the double standards
between genders and believe that they are wrong, all men

"We hold these truths to be self–evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by

form our law system to what it is today. Since the Declaration of Independence we have been able to
expand who should be included when our law system addresses equality. Today law, regarding
gender equality has progressed significantly. Examining American history, it is evident to notice
oppression women's faced from the time prior to the Declaration of Sentiments in 1848 to the Civil
Rights act of 1964 and even today in some instances; the strive for equality amongst genders is a
conflict that has come a long way, but still needs to be addressed accordingly. Reading the

Prediction of product sales based on online customer reviews using sentiment analysis
Priyanka Sharma and Bijith Marakarkandy
Department of information Technology, Thakur College of Engineering and Technology, Mumbai
Abstract
Purpose – Due to their high popularity, Weblogs and other social media sites provide a wealth of
information that can be very helpful in evaluating the customers' sentiments and opinions. It is
therefore imperative to analyze them and filter out useful information that could be of economic
values to vendors and other interested parties. The purpose of this paper is to examine and analyze
online customer reviews about the products and thereby predicting the sales of the products.
Design/methodology/approach – This paper employs a sentiment analysis approach by extracting
online customer reviews from twitter using twitter API. The extracted reviews have been classified
as negative, positive and neutral based on their sentiment polarity and a conceptual model is
developed to analyse the customers purchase intentions.
Findings – The online customer reviews, both positive and negative, can affect the customers'
opinion about the product. Purchase intentions of the customer after reading the product reviews
depends on the factors like customer's attitude towards the brand and consumer–based brand equity.
While consumer–based brand equity and customer's attitude are directly affected by customer's
persuasiveness for online reviews and prior

Comparing Elizabeth Stanton’s Declaration of Sentiments...
Elizabeth Cady Stanton's Declaration of Sentiments and The Women's Bible
Elizabeth Cady Stanton was one of the most renowned women to lead campaigns for women's
rights. Her efforts were focused on "opportunities for women, for married women's property rights,
the right to divorce, and the right to custody of children; her most radical demand was for women's
right to vote" (Davidson and Wagner–Martin 845). In general Stanton wished to instill independence
and self–reliance in all women. Stanton was an inspiring orator of speeches including the
Declaration of Sentiments as well as the book The Women's Bible. Upon analysis of her speeches
and other works, as well as gaining knowledge of her background, one is able to assume that ...

Much of her knowledge was gained by time spent in her fatherâs office reading law books and
listening to his conversations with clients. Stanton refused to allow societyâs constraints to limit her
ability to excel as mush or more than a young man does. In taking on this conviction, she later in life
attempted to have changes made to allow women to attend the same schools (colleges) that men
attended.
In the experiences Stanton witnessed between clients and Mr. Cady, one particular incident farther
provoked Stanton to seek rights for women. In this certain case an ex servant of the family was
attempting to regain property that she had purchased before her marriage. Apparently her deceased
husband had will the property to his son and the woman was left with nothing. Mr. Cady informed
the lady that even though she had purchased the property before wedding, that according to the laws
concerning wedlock, all property, earnings, and children were relinquished to the husband. Elizabeth
could not believe that the laws were so unjust and that there was nothing her father could do to help
the woman regain what was rightfully hers. Being a small child at the time, Stanton told the client
that she would search through every law book and cut out any laws that

Sentiment In The United States
In the United States, consumer sentiment is measured primarily using two measures: Consumer
Confidence Index (CCI) and the University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment Index. Both of these
measure the degree of optimism consumer's express about the economy and their personal
financial/employment situation. This is a key element in determining economic health, as 70% of
economic activity comes from consumer spending. Consumer sentiment can both a positive and
negative effect on the speed of an economic recovery.
Since consumer sentiment is a dimension of behavioral economics, there are a lot of factors that
impact consumer confidence beyond their actual economic significance: unemployment,
presidential elections, war, interest rates, inflation, federal budget, international news, terrorist
attacks, oil prices, housing market, certain times of the year (fall, summer, etc.), and even the
weather. Perceptions can change quickly, and the news media can widely influence consumer's
opinion of the state of the economy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Sentiment Analysis Review
Abstract– Sentiment analysis is the computational study of opinions, sentiments, subjectivity,
evaluations, attitudes, views and emotions expressed in text. Sentiment analysis is mainly used to
classify the reviews as positive or negative or neutral with respect to a query term. This is useful for
consumers who want to analyse the sentiment of products before purchase, or viewers who want to
know the public sentiment about a new released movie. Here I present the results of machine
learning algorithms for classifying the sentiment of movie reviews which uses a chi–squared feature
selection mechanism for training. I show that machine learning algorithms such as Naive Bayes and
Maximum Entropy can achieve competitive accuracy when trained using features and the publicly
available dataset. It analyse accuracy, precision and recall of machine learning classification
mechanisms with chi–squared feature selection technique and plot the relationship between number

The next step in the sentiment analysis is to extract and select text features. Here feature selection
technique treat the documents as group of words (Bag of Words (BOWs)) which ignores the
position of the word in the document. Here feature selection method used is Chi–square (x2).
A chi–square test also referred to as a statistical hypothesis test in which the sampling distribution of
the test statistic is a chi–square distribution when the null hypothesis is true. The chi–square test is
used to determine whether there is a significant difference between the expected frequencies and the
observed frequencies in one or more categories.
Assume n be the total number of documents in the collection, pi(w) be the conditional probability of
class i for documents which contain w, Pi be the global fraction of documents containing the class i,

Elizabeth Cady Stanton 's Declaration Of Sentiments And...
A Call to Women, a Call to All Elizabeth Cady Stanton fought tirelessly against inequality between
men and women, an issue that still plagues this nation. From her first address to her last, Elizabeth
was the voice of the women's rights movement. She lectured across the nation and publically
debated the unjust laws of her day ("Elizabeth Cady Stanton..."). Two of her more prominent and
potent speeches were "Declaration of Sentiments and Resolutions" and "Solitude of Self". These
speeches served as her introduction and adieu as an overt promoter of women's rights ("The
Women's Rights...") (Hogan). Though Stanton gave both her "Declaration of Sentiments and
Resolutions" and "Solitude of Self" in support of women's rights, due to the differing audiences
addressed, the speeches vary in structure, overall message, appeal, and use of rhetorical devices.
Stanton orates "A Declaration of Sentiments and Resolutions" on July 19, 1848, at the Seneca Falls
convention, to a crowd consisting of mostly females. This marks the first gathering devoted to the
women's rights movement ("The Women's Rights..."). Stanton models her speech after the
Declaration of Independence (Appleby 74–77). She reflects the structure by beginning with a
preamble followed by a declaration of natural rights. She then lists man's grievances against women
in the same fashion that the nation's forefathers listed the king's mistreatments against the colonies.
She concludes with their, the women's rights movement's,

Veiled Sentiment Essay

  • 1. Veiled Sentiment Essay Discourse is verbal and non–verbal way of exchanging thoughts and feelings. Although in Veiled Sentiments, Bedouin people seemed to be sharing the same opinions and emotions privately as well as in public, noticeable contrast between the public and private discourses existed. In this paper, I will try to clarify the distinction and provide an example of a discourse from my everyday life. Discourse is a long talk or piece of writing about a subject that serves as a tool to exchange ideas and sentiments. Michael Foucault presents possibly the best definition of discourse. He says, "Discourse is the systems of thoughts composed of ideas, attitudes, and courses of action, beliefs and practices that systematically construct the subjects and the worlds of which they speak." In Veiled Sentiments, it was mainly about poetic letters and conversations Bedouin natives used to communicate with each other. However, Bedouins shared different content in their discourses in public and in private situations and poetry certainly signified the disparity. Public discourses were used with particular intentions. Generally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bedouins would reveal their true sentiments towards certain matters or other people in their private poems. Women shared their poems only with their relatives, friends or neighbors. Men, also limited the group of people they shared private poems to their relatives of the same generation and men with the same level of status. Romance was an exception to that rule. Couples were allowed to exchange private poems with each other to express feelings and affection. Another point worth mentioning is that Bedouins never wrote their names after any poems. People would understand the meaning of a poem if it was written to them, without knowing the author. At the same time, this tradition protected the authors from embarrassment or issues when poems ended up in wrong people's ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Declaration of Sentiments by Elizabeth Cady Over the course of many years, women have struggled to expand their roles and rights in society, hoping to one day achieve complete equality with their male counterparts. Two women, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Judy (Syfers) Brady, both recognized the patriarchal society in which women had to endure. They despised the way it heaped inequality and servitude upon women, and decided to assert their opinion on the issue in order to change the perceptions and imposed limitations on women. In Stanton's speech, "Declaration of Sentiments", and in Brady's article, "I Want a Wife", both women attempt to convince their audiences that females deserve complete equality with men by stating the submissive situations and obligations women find themselves immersed in. This is done to get their female audiences to reevaluate how they have been treated and give them a second chance at attaining equality. Both women employ various rhetorical techniques in their arguments to strengthen, as well as compel other women to oppose the 'domesticated' image of women. Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Judy (Syfers) Brady expressed their views in pursuance of forging a path to a revamped lifestyle for women. In Judy (Syfers) Brady's article, "I Want a Wife", she expresses her opinions in a satirical commentary that offers hypothetical criteria for an ideal wife, with an underlying message that deals with how people should be grateful for all of the deeds and chores that women do. Brady utilizes the strategy of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Declaration Of Sentiments Analysis The "Declaration of Sentiments" authored by Elizabeth Cady Stanton from the Seneca Falls Convention is a document that insists in written form that the government should allow women to practice their rights. Back then, women were not allowed to vote or use their voice but, now during the times "The Awakening" was written by Kate Chopin, women had more privileges and rebellious attitude. The main character, Edna Pontellier has more freedom and self–rule than any other woman back in 1848. The purpose of the "Declaration of Sentiments" is that to release the oppression from the government giving to women, to state that men and women are created equal. The document stated that "In the covenant of marriage, she is compelled to promise obedience to her husband, he becoming, to all intents and purposes, her master–the law giving him power to deprive her of her liberty, and to administer chastisement."(Stanton.9) Explaining that no matter what, the woman is seen as an object in the eyes of the court, not as a human, treated as property. Women were submissive and were deprived of education. The women had only one thing to do, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Showcasing that she gets to use her voice, she gets to get away with not being the proper mother as women were once before. She is allowed to have a friendship with another man and not be seen as a scandalous woman in the society. She has more freedom than the previous woman had, sunbathing with her dear Robert. Since she is a Creole, who is not oppressed by cultural norms, her husband does not see that as a threat but that does not mean he stops seeing her as an object like others men ... • 4. Declaration Of Sentiment Analysis In 1848, Elizabeth Stanton and Lucretia Mott organized a women's rights convention. The convention was held to address the social, civil, and religious condition and rights of women. The first day meeting began with women exclusively invited, the second day was held for the public which included men. Elizabeth wrote the Declaration of Sentiments which is a disquisition about women's right and their role in society. In the SENECA FALLS WOMEN'S RIGHTS CONVENTION, the author emphasizes the importance of women's participation in leadership roles in society. By mimicking the Declaration of Independence Stanton was able to speak amongst many who were concerned about equality with men before the law, in education, and employment. During the 18th century, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Men had more rights in governmental affairs such as owning property, attending institutions, and voting. However, women did not have a voice about political and social economical issues. The Declaration of Independence states that all men are created equal ;however women are discounted. In the treatise she states, "The history of mankind is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations on the part of man toward woman, having in direct object the establishment of an absolute tyranny over her. To prove this, let facts be submitted to a candid world." This specific line portrays women as objects of mistreatment and women will therefore put an end to it. The Declaration of Sentiments also addresses the religious conditions and rights of women by stating,"He has usurped the prerogative of Jehovah himself, claiming it as his right to assign for her a sphere of action, when that belongs to her conscience and to her God" meaning that he is telling her what to do which only God should be her only leader. However, not only did this create issues for women, but also an argument sprawled between African American men voters and women. It was argued that women should have the right to vote over African American men ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Research Paper On Sentiment Analysis Abstract Due to the large volume of opinion rich web resources like twitter, Face book, blogs and news available in digital form, much of the current research is focusing on the area of sentiment analysis using text analysis. People are getting attracted to develop a system that can extract opinions based on their response on social media sites. Algorithms can be developed so as to predict preferences of people to improve economic and marketing research. This paper presents a sentiment analysis on a recent scenario of Uri Attack. Index Terms– Rich Web Resources, Text Analysis, Uri Attack Introduction Sentiment analysis is a technique for tracking the mood or sentiment of the public for a particular product or incident. Sentiment analysis is also called as opinion mining and it involves in making of a machine that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sentiment analysis concentrates on attitudes, whereas the traditional method of text mining mainly focuses on the analysis of facts. There are few main fields of research in Sentiment analysis: sentiment classification, feature based sentiment classification and opinion summarization. Sentiment classification deals with classifying entire document according to the opinions shown with respect to a certain object. While feature–based sentiment classification considers the opinions on the features of a certain object. Opinion summarization task is different compared to traditional text summarization because only the features of the product are examined on which the customers have expressed their opinions via any social media. Opinion summarization does not summarize the reviews by selecting a subset or rewriting some of the original sentences from the reviews to capture the main points like in the classic text summarization ... • 6. Essay On Sentiment Classification The aspect–level sentiment analysis overcomes this problem and performs the sentiment classification taking the particular aspect into consideration. There can be a situation where the sentiment holder may express contrasting sentiments for the same product, object, organization etc Techniques for sentiment analysis is generally partitioned as (1) machine learning approach, (2) lexicon–based approach and (3) combined approach (Meddhat et al., 2014a). There are two approaches for the lexicon–based approach. First one is the dictionarybased approach and the second one is the corpus–based approach that utilizes the factual or semantic strategy for discovering the polarity. The dictionary–based approach is based on finding the sentiment seed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some combined rule algorithms were proposed in (Medhat et al., 2008a). Therefore, a study on decision tree and decision rule problem is done by Quinlan (1986). Probabilistic Classifier Probabilistic classifiers make the utilization of blend of models for classification. Every class is considered to be a component of the mixed model. We have described various probabilistic classifiers for sentiment analysis problem in the next subsection. 4.1.1.4.1 Naive Bayes Classifier (NB). It is the frequently used classifier in sentiment analysis. In sentiment analysis, naive Bayes classifier calculates the posterior probability of either positive class or negative class depending on the sentiment words distributed over the document. The work of naïve Bayes classifier is based on the Bag–of–word extraction of features in which the word's position is overlooked in the whole text. This classifier uses the Bayes theorem. It calculates the probability for the sentiment word in a document and tells whether that word belongs to the positive or negative class. The probability can be calculated using the given formula. This assumption results in Bayesian Network. A Bayesian network is a directed acyclic graph containing nodes and edges, where nodes denote the random variables and the edges denote the conditional dependencies. It is a conditional exponential classifier that takes the feature sets with label and converts them into ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Declaration Of Sentiments And Resolutions Feminism in the United States: The Declaration of Sentiments Kyron Brown History 2010 – W9 Professor Pennig November 26, 2014 Introduction In the year 1848, Elizabeth Cady Stanton conveyed to the audience of the Seneca Falls Convention the Declaration of Sentiments and Resolutions . The Declaration of Sentiments was written with the purpose of demanding civil freedom for women and of righting the wrongs of society. The Declaration included events where women's rights were being oppressed and violated and where laws were giving special treatment to men. It also included the resolutions they demanded on these particular cases. In addition, the Declaration was written due to the fact that women in all parts of the globe were being oppressed for many years. The women in many countries, just like in the United States of America, were given a limited set of rights in the society compared to their male counterparts. One great example of this was the women's suffrage in the United States, which was not inherently given to them until its national enactment in the year 1920. Analysis The document was specifically written for women and the events that revolved around their poor conditions in the past. It was also evident that one of its objectives was to promote and endorse feminism. This was due to the fact that women in America were being oppressed up until the mid– 20th century. As Martha C. Wright indicated, the American women at the time, specifically the wives, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. The Declaration Of Sentiments By Elizabeth Cady Stanton There are many important documents in history that have influenced the lives of women today, but possibly none more important than the "Declaration of Sentiments" by Elizabeth Cady Stanton. The declaration was able to make an extremely strong and memorable impact, not only for the ideas presented in it, but also for its strong rhetoric and use of figurative language such as anaphora and syntax; also, notable is its imitation of the "Declaration of Independence". Though written over one hundred years ago, the declaration written at the Seneca Falls Convention addressing women's rights has made influences still felt today including but not limited to the right to vote, gender equality in the eyes of the law, and even just simple things such as women wearing pants or the confidence of young girls. The "Declaration of Sentiments" was written by Elizabeth Cady Stanton after women, including her activist counterpart Lucretia Mott, had been barred from participation in the abolition movement. Being told they could not take part greatly angered women because they were being continually told that they were inferior to men and only had use for looking pretty and birthing children. When women were unable to participate in the abolition movement they began to feel that they were lacking in rights as well and needed to start their own movement. On July 19, 1848 Mott and Stanton held the Women's Rights Convention in Seneca Falls, New York. There, she wrote a document that would change ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Women 's Rights Convention : The Seneca Falls Convention Meeting Lucretia Mott lead to one of Stanton's greatest accomplishments which was the world's first women's rights convention, the Seneca Falls Convention. "The Seneca Falls Convention, a gathering on behalf of women's rights held in the upstate New York town where Stanton lived, raised the issue of woman's suffrage for the first time" (Foner 452). This was a huge milestone to spread the word about women 's equality in the United States. It was the first women's convention, so it gathered a lot of hype and attention to women's need of rights. There's no reason why women should not get the right to vote, or the right of education just because their gender. Thankfully, "the convention was the beginning of the 70 year struggle woman's suffrage" (Foner 453). Stanton helped spread the voice of women and their own ideas about rights. With the men being dominant in the society, it was difficult to lead the way of women 's rights, but the Seneca Falls Convention started it all. At first, they had to get the word out that the Seneca Falls Convention is happening. With the help of Martha Wright, Mary Ann McClintock and Jane Hunt; Cady and Mott published the event in the Seneca County Courier. The article read that the convention examined the social and religious rights of women. It is hosted at Wesleyan Chapel in Seneca Falls on July 19th and 20th at 10 A.M. The article claimed that the 19th is reserved for only women and the 20th is welcomed for anyone to attend. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. The Methods For Sentiment Analysis III. APPROACHES OF SENTIMENT ANALYSIS. Sentiment analysis consists of various elements out of which lexicons are an integral part. These lexicons are nothing but the words which make up a sentence. These lexicons can also be known as sentiment lexicon or opinion lexicons. It is important that we classify the lexicons we have into positives or negatives in order to achieve review analysis. One of the methods for sentiment analysis and classification is done on the basis of these lexicons. There are two broad approaches for sentiment analysis. These are lexicon based approaches and machine learning based approaches. These approaches are further divided into different methods as shown in the figure given below. Fig. 2 Sentiment analysis flow Let us consider each approach in more detail. A) Machine Learning Approaches Machine learning methods include the concepts from soft computing field. These methods are classified as supervised and unsupervised methods. The supervised methods can either be probabilistic classifiers else it can be linear classifiers. Probabilistic classifiers include algorithms which use probability to find the classification and then separate the lexicons based on probabilistic calculations. In this approach we use data driven methods, which include the following algorithms. a. Naïve Baye's Classifier: This algorithm includes the use of Baye's theorem for determining the ... • 14. The Declaration Of Sentiments By Elizabeth Cady Stanton Tory Lynch Marlaire AP Lit P.1 27 January 2015 Essay Contest: The Declaration of Sentiments In the Declaration of Sentiments, author Elizabeth Cady Stanton expresses her anger of the oppression experienced by women in the United States. After being rejected to attend the World's Anti–Slavery convention in London, Stanton was frustrated because she was being rejected for being a woman. This motivated Stanton to share her own ideas on advocating women's rights and changing the way women are treated in society because of the mistreatment done to her, as well as many women across the nation waiting for their voices to be heard. Stanton parallels the Declaration of Sentiments with the Declaration of Independence by using laws that the male population regarded as righteous and including how it had negative effects on over half the American population. This put into question male authority and supremacy, creating a more concrete argument by revealing what men already have under the law, to what women should have. The sophistication of the Declaration of Sentiments to a document that the U.S. government values highly, threatens the values of the U.S. by making women's rights a more pressing issue. The Declaration of Sentiments targeted the U.S. government and the population by appealing to their own opinions and beliefs in order to recognize that women were being treated like second–class citizens. What Is The Logos In The Declaration Of Sentiments "The Declarations of Sentiments and Resolutions" by Elizabeth Cady Stanton is an interesting and persuasive essay on women's rights and equality. The essay uses pathos, logos, and ethos to capture the reader's attention and draw them in into this argumentative piece. Each appeal deeply exercises the importance of equality for both men and women. Throughout her essay, Stanton uses pathos, logos, and ethos to draw the reader's attention and persuade them to stand up for women inequality. This document has a very distinct pathetic appeal created by the passion and determination for freedom. For example, Stanton says, "In the covenant of marriage, she is compelled to promise obedience to her husband...the law giving him power to deprive her of her liberty." This sentence conveys to the readers that women are nothing but servants to their "master." It also shows how women are just known as "objects" that men can use. The author also goes further into the ideals of the Awlad' Ali by discussing the relations between female modesty (hasham), "natural inferiority", and sexuality. She depicts the ideal woman in the eyes of the Bedouin people, describing her as soft spoken, and "well–behaved," and with no open thoughts on sexuality. Apart from discussing the importance of hasham in a woman, Abu– Lughod points out that emotion of love and affection between men and women is a taboo. Primary Source Analysis The Declaration of Sentiments: Elizabeth Cady Stanton In the early 1840s, women began standing and fighting for the basic rights they deserved. Women had always been viewed as lesser than men, and many women of the time were ready to object that idea. Some women were fine with how they were being blindly mistreated, but Elizabeth Cady Stanton was one of the women ready for a change. With the help of her colleague Lucretia Mott, Stanton organized the Seneca Falls Convention in her hometown of Seneca Falls located in upstate New York. This event was the first of its kind; therefore, it took very strong and dedicated women to compose the convention. The convention's main focus was Stanton's Declaration of Sentiments on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At this time in history, most women worked in the home, this included: taking care of children, cooking, and cleaning. Women were viewed as delicate nurturers who should stay home. In this quote, "He has taken from her all right in property, even to the wages she earns," Stanton is saying that even if somehow a woman made money, it belonged to her husband. To some men, their wives were seen as objects rather than human beings. If a single woman owned property, "he taxed her to support a government which recognizes her only when her property can be made profitable to it." Gender roles in society during the 1840s led to mental oppression of women. Men had always been seen as the 'head of the house' or the 'breadwinner' forcing women to think they had no power to do anything. Stanton describes this as women being "compelled to promise obedience to her husband, he becoming, to all intents and purposes, her master–the law giving him power to deprive her of her liberty." She argues that rights should be given because all people were created equal. God, as she puts it, did not give one individual the power to rule over others, regardless of different characteristics (e.g. gender and race). Elizabeth tries to show that these natural rights cannot be achieved by women if they do not have the equal opportunities that men have. One of her most famous quotes is; "He has taken from her all right in property, even to the wages she earns..." (Stanton). As stated before property is a natural right, and Stanton shows that this was taken away from women by not granting them the right to their own property or labor wages, again highlighting the fact the rights were only given to men. The pursuit of happiness was an immensely emphasized right that was not given to women through–out her speech. How can women be happy when not being able to do the things they wish to do? That's a question Stanton often asked herself when analyzing the right she was being deprived of. Elizabeth said "He has denied her the facilities for obtaining a thorough education – all colleges being closed against her." (Stanton). • 26. Individualism In The Declaration Of Sentiments By Kate Chopin Individualism is the idea of being independent and acting on what is considered to be freedom. And these three individuals: Cady Stanton which perfectly portrays early women's rights movement in her pleasant piece the Declaration of Sentiments in which she talks about how women are equivalent to men, Kate Chopin is also a good example of early feminism with her short story A Story Of An Hour which she conveys the character Louise Mallard a women who lost her husband and felt joy of knowing she will experience freedom for the very first time in her life, and as for Frederick Douglass he perfectly model what a true individual is by fighting for anti–slavery in his stunning piece What To The Slave Is The Fourth Of July? In which he gives a profound speech on why he does not celebrate Fourth Of July. Individualism in the 19th century was fighting for what a certain group of people considered to be "freedom" without the importance of what others thought. Cady Stanton represents individualism because she believed women and men were all created equally and should have the same rights men had during 18th century to the early 19th century. In the Declaration of Sentiments by Seneca Falls Convention Stanton states "We hold the these truths to be self–evident: that all men and women are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights..."(164). This is important because it shows that women as well as men are supposed to be equal because we are both born with these rights, she went even deeper by stating that these rights "...are endowed by their Creator"(164) in which the Creator being God in this occasion and that we have the right to these rights. This document is also written with the same type of wording as the Declaration of Independence. For example, in the Declaration of Independence it opens up almost every sentence with "He has..."(Jefferson 65) in which the Declaration of Sentiments also starts with the "He has..."(165) but instead of saying what the British didn't let them do like the Declaration of Independence the Declaration of Sentiments took another turn and ended up saying all rights men deprived from them. Some of the common applications of sentiment analysis are, understanding the voice of the customer, voice of the market, the voice of the employee, brand management, financial markets, politics and government intelligence. The objective of the sentiment analysis in the case of Suite Spot would be to increase customer satisfaction based on the sentiment analysis of the customer review data and other available data about the customer and reservation, available from Kayak. Declaration Of Sentiments Rhetorical Analysis The opening paragraph of Elizabeth Cady Stanton's Declaration of Sentiments, which narrates, "When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary...," (Stanton 1), along with the title itself reveals a connection to Thomas Jefferson's Declaration of Independence. Elizabeth Cady Stanton wrote the declaration after being excluded from the World Anti–Slavery convention, much like how the colonists were excluded from British Parliament. Declaration of Sentiments lists the grievances of women, which is another similarly to Jefferson's Declaration of Independence where he lists the grievances of the colonists. Stanton introduced her Declaration of Sentiments at the Seneca Falls Convention, which further conveys similarity to Jefferson's Declaration of Independence as his Declaration of Independence was introduced at the Second Continental Congress. Stanton, modeling her Declaration of Sentiments after Jefferson's Declaration of Independence, uses anaphora, the rhetorical triangle, allusions, personification, and harsh diction to achieve her effect of inspiring change to the benefit of women in society, similar to how Thomas Jefferson inspired change in the colonies through his Declaration of Independence. Prediction of product sales based on online customer reviews using sentiment analysis Priyanka Sharma and Bijith Marakarkandy Department of information Technology, Thakur College of Engineering and Technology, Mumbai Abstract Purpose – Due to their high popularity, Weblogs and other social media sites provide a wealth of information that can be very helpful in evaluating the customers' sentiments and opinions. It is therefore imperative to analyze them and filter out useful information that could be of economic values to vendors and other interested parties. The purpose of this paper is to examine and analyze online customer reviews about the products and thereby predicting the sales of the products. Design/methodology/approach – This paper employs a sentiment analysis approach by extracting online customer reviews from twitter using twitter API. The extracted reviews have been classified as negative, positive and neutral based on their sentiment polarity and a conceptual model is developed to analyse the customers purchase intentions. Findings – The online customer reviews, both positive and negative, can affect the customers' opinion about the product. • 37. Comparing Elizabeth Stanton’s Declaration of Sentiments... Elizabeth Cady Stanton's Declaration of Sentiments and The Women's Bible Elizabeth Cady Stanton was one of the most renowned women to lead campaigns for women's rights. Her efforts were focused on "opportunities for women, for married women's property rights, the right to divorce, and the right to custody of children; her most radical demand was for women's right to vote" (Davidson and Wagner–Martin 845). In general Stanton wished to instill independence and self–reliance in all women. Stanton was an inspiring orator of speeches including the Declaration of Sentiments as well as the book The Women's Bible. Upon analysis of her speeches and other works, as well as gaining knowledge of her background, one is able to assume that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Much of her knowledge was gained by time spent in her fatherâs office reading law books and listening to his conversations with clients. Stanton refused to allow societyâs constraints to limit her ability to excel as mush or more than a young man does. In taking on this conviction, she later in life attempted to have changes made to allow women to attend the same schools (colleges) that men attended. In the experiences Stanton witnessed between clients and Mr. Cady, one particular incident farther provoked Stanton to seek rights for women. In this certain case an ex servant of the family was attempting to regain property that she had purchased before her marriage. Apparently her deceased husband had will the property to his son and the woman was left with nothing. Mr. Cady informed the lady that even though she had purchased the property before wedding, that according to the laws concerning wedlock, all property, earnings, and children were relinquished to the husband. Elizabeth could not believe that the laws were so unjust and that there was nothing her father could do to help the woman regain what was rightfully hers. Being a small child at the time, Stanton told the client that she would search through every law book and cut out any laws that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Sentiment In The United States In the United States, consumer sentiment is measured primarily using two measures: Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) and the University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment Index. Both of these measure the degree of optimism consumer's express about the economy and their personal financial/employment situation. This is a key element in determining economic health, as 70% of economic activity comes from consumer spending. Consumer sentiment can both a positive and negative effect on the speed of an economic recovery. Since consumer sentiment is a dimension of behavioral economics, there are a lot of factors that impact consumer confidence beyond their actual economic significance: unemployment, presidential elections, war, interest rates, inflation, federal budget, international news, terrorist attacks, oil prices, housing market, certain times of the year (fall, summer, etc.), and even the weather. Perceptions can change quickly, and the news media can widely influence consumer's opinion of the state of the economy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 39. The Sentiment Analysis Review Abstract– Sentiment analysis is the computational study of opinions, sentiments, subjectivity, evaluations, attitudes, views and emotions expressed in text. Sentiment analysis is mainly used to classify the reviews as positive or negative or neutral with respect to a query term. This is useful for consumers who want to analyse the sentiment of products before purchase, or viewers who want to know the public sentiment about a new released movie. Here I present the results of machine learning algorithms for classifying the sentiment of movie reviews which uses a chi–squared feature selection mechanism for training. I show that machine learning algorithms such as Naive Bayes and Maximum Entropy can achieve competitive accuracy when trained using features and the publicly available dataset. It analyse accuracy, precision and recall of machine learning classification mechanisms with chi–squared feature selection technique and plot the relationship between number of ... Here feature selection technique treat the documents as group of words (Bag of Words (BOWs)) which ignores the position of the word in the document. Here feature selection method used is Chi–square (x2). A chi–square test also referred to as a statistical hypothesis test in which the sampling distribution of the test statistic is a chi–square distribution when the null hypothesis is true. The chi–square test is used to determine whether there is a significant difference between the expected frequencies and the observed frequencies in one or more categories. Assume n be the total number of documents in the collection, pi(w) be the conditional probability of class i for documents which contain w, Pi be the global fraction of documents containing the class i, and F(w) be the global fraction of documents which contain the word w. Then, the x2–statistic of the word between word w and class i is defined[1] ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Elizabeth Cady Stanton 's Declaration Of Sentiments And... A Call to Women, a Call to All Elizabeth Cady Stanton fought tirelessly against inequality between men and women, an issue that still plagues this nation. From her first address to her last, Elizabeth was the voice of the women's rights movement. She lectured across the nation and publically debated the unjust laws of her day ("Elizabeth Cady Stanton..."). Two of her more prominent and potent speeches were "Declaration of Sentiments and Resolutions" and "Solitude of Self". These speeches served as her introduction and adieu as an overt promoter of women's rights ("The Women's Rights...") (Hogan). Though Stanton gave both her "Declaration of Sentiments and Resolutions" and "Solitude of Self" in support of women's rights, due to the differing audiences addressed, the speeches vary in structure, overall message, appeal, and use of rhetorical devices. Stanton orates "A Declaration of Sentiments and Resolutions" on July 19, 1848, at the Seneca Falls convention, to a crowd consisting of mostly females. This marks the first gathering devoted to the women's rights movement ("The Women's Rights..."). Stanton models her speech after the Declaration of Independence (Appleby 74–77). She reflects the structure by beginning with a preamble followed by a declaration of natural rights. She then lists man's grievances against women in the same fashion that the nation's forefathers listed the king's mistreatments against the colonies. She concludes with their, the women's rights movement's, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
