Speech On Fruit Fly Traps
Fruit flies are annoying and seem to come from nowhere, are hard to kill, and once they appear they
seem to stick around forever!
Well, nobody cares where they come from, just as long as they leave! Traditional methods like
swatting them, spraying them with insecticide often prove futile.
Because, you can never swat them all and, who wants to spray insecticide over food?
So, what is the solution?
Trapping them!
Yes, trapping fruit flies is amazingly effective way to get rid of fruit flies. Today in this article, I am
going to show you different types of fruit fly traps, their construction, effectiveness, and working.
In addition to this, we will also see different types of homemade and store–brought baits/Lures and
see their effectiveness. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The attractants like apple cider vinegar, wine, or tequila contain acetic acid molecules and hence the
fruit flies are attracted to them.
Apple Cider Vinegar Fruit Fly Trap:
I can bet, you will hear the name of apple cider vinegar traps every time, someone talks about fruit
fly traps.
Apple cider vinegar is one of the most popular attractants used in fruit fly traps. Fruit flies have a
great affinity towards apple cider vinegar. To use it as a lure in fly traps – Mix a cup of apple cider
vinegar with 3 – 5 drops of dish soap.
Dish soap breaks the surface tension of the attractant and causes the trapped flies to sink as soon as
they come in contact with the lure.
Another important tip is that – Heating the apple cider vinegar in the microwave for about 10 –15
seconds before using it, makes it more effective. Household vinegar is composed of diluted acetic
acid with water.
When the vinegar is heated, the water molecules evaporate, thereby increasing the concentration of
acetic acid in the mixture. Doing this releases more of the vinegar's fragrance and hence attracts
more fruit flies.
Apple cider vinegar can be used with any of three traps mentioned

Fruit Valley Case Study
Fruit Valley has many strengths that would be cohesive to an aging friendly community. For
instance, the closeness and proximity of the houses to one another would help to keep the elderly
individuals close enough together to be able to lean on each other for support and companionship.
Although a few things could be added to better assist this growing population in this neighborhood,
for example, elderly assistance for shopping needs, a close–by grocery store, delivery services for
groceries, pharmaceutical and medical supplies. Currently, Fruit Valley uses the Elementary school
as the hub of the community and this would be a great place to hub resources for the elderly as well.
Countless amenities could be added to make this a more convenient neighborhood for the aging
population. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Elderly individuals could come in the mornings for coffee and help the K–5 aged children off the
bus and into the cafeteria for breakfast, then off to their classrooms for instruction time. This would
create a volunteer opportunity for the aging population in addition to providing a little extra
attention and nurturing for the kids, this could evolve to story time, after school care, and a buddy to
walk littles (K–5) home after school.
Andrew Lehning, Andrew Scharlach, and Teresa Dal Santo discuss in their article, A web based
approach for helping communities become more "Aging friendly", that there are three
characteristics to creating an aging friendly community and having a sense of purpose and self–
worth are key components in this concept. By integrating seniors with children, we as a community
are providing a need that the seniors are fulfilling which is thought to prolong the life of most in this
proposed theory (Lehning,

Berries and Citrus Fruits – These fruits help in detoxification and bowel movement. Citrus fruits
such as blackberries, strawberries, raspberries and others purify the blood and improve the
cardiovascular functions. While citrus fruits are easily available, they are most widely consumed as
a weight loss remedy.
However, to shed some more light over the uses of citrus fruits and to drop a few pounds, let us
have a look at some widely consumed citrus fruits and the health benefits associated with them.
Grapefruits
Grapefruits were discovered when pomelos were cross bred with oranges. Grapefruits are acidic in
taste and contain low glycemic content, which helps in keeping the low blood sugar level intact after
its consumption. Hence, grapefruits play a vital role in reducing body weight.
By incorporating grapefruits in your daily diet, you can create a very balanced diet plan. While you
may directly eat grapefruits like oranges, to increase the fiber content in your diet, you can also
consume grapefruit juice after a workout or for breakfast.
However, if you are on medications, then you must first take your doctor's advice before including
grapefruit in your daily diet plan as citrus fruits may be contraindicated for various medications.

Personal Narrative: The Tree Fruit Industry
The tree fruit industry has had a profound impact on my life. When my parents arrived in the US,
their first employment was in the orchards. Ever since, my parents have been involved in this
industry one way or another. This industry has enabled my parents to provide enough economic
stability for me to where I am able to focus on my educational opportunities. If it were not for this
industry, my parents would not have a job. Not earning enough money, I would have had to find
employment to help my family, financially, year–round. Doing this, I would not have been able to
focus all my efforts in my education or participate in as many extra–curricular activities as I have.
Most importantly, I would have not had the time to take challenging courses,

Fruit Tree Diversity And Fruit Consumption
Chapter 4:
Fruit tree diversity and fruit consumption in the context of deforestation in Cameroon
1. INTRODUCTION
The world has been confronted with serious difficulties in curbing the rate of undernourishment,
especially in sub–Sahara Africa (Vicenti et al., 2013; Arnold et al., 2011; Goenster et al., 2011). In
developing countries, the livelihood and food security of smallholder land users are often at risk
from unpredictable harvests, land degradation and climate change (Paumgarten and Shackleton,
2011; Mertens et al., 2000; Ndoye and Kaimowitz, 2000; Sunderlin et al., 2000). Of about one
billion hungry people globally, 98% live in developing countries. Seventy percent of chronically
hungry people are smallholder farmers, 43% of total farmers worldwide are women and 38% of
youths in Africa are working in agriculture (Conway and Wilson, 2012; FAO, 2011). For instance, in
forest areas of Cameroon, stunting and chronic malnutrition was experienced by 30.3% of children
between 24–47 months in the South region and 27.8% in the Centre region (Socpa et al., 2008).
Since the varieties of wildfruits are numerous (Matig et al., 2006; van Wyk, 2005) and vary from
one season and climatic region to another, fruits and wild foods can constitute important sources of
food during crop scarcity (Vicenti et al., 2013; Termote et al., 2012; Ingram and Shure 2010; Nesbit
et al., 2010; Shackleton and Shackleton, 2004). Thus, fruits can serve as safety nets in the diet of
households when

Bizarre Fruit
In the mid 1930's, the south would perform, what they believed to be acts of justice by hanging, or
lynching, black men who were convicted of doing a crime. The Poem "Strange Fruit" is an
interesting poem depicts a very horrid image of pure racism in the south and how lynchings were
such a gruesome image, and was meant to be a "protest against the inhumanity of racism"(Blair) .
The poem "Strange Fruit" was published in 1937 by Abel Meeropol after he viewed an image of a
lynching that occurred in the south. Meeropol was "'haunted'" by the image and was inspired to
write and publish the poem (Meeropol). Abel Meeropol was already against racism in America and
when he saw the appalling image of two African American people being lynched ... Show more

The elements of imagery are seen in the poem when Abel writes "The bulgin' eyes and the twisted
mouth" (6). The sentence describes a very horrid image of how the African Americans looks as they
were being hanged against their will. This depicts imagery because it gives a very detailed image in
the reader's mind of how they looked like as they were hanged. Personification is present in the
poem "Strange Fruit" when Meeropol writes "For the rain to gather, for the wind to suck" (10). This
is personification because it gives the rain the trait of gathering things, and it also gives the wind the
trait of sucking. Within the poem, Meeropol also includes juxtaposition, for example when he says
"Scent of magnolias sweet and fresh/ Then the sudden smell of burnin' flesh" (7–8). This is an
example of juxtaposition because it brings out the difference between the sweet smell of a flower,
and the bad dark smell of burning flesh, and it makes the difference between those things more
apparent. Throughout the poem "Strange Fruit" Meeropol also uses metaphors, such as when he puts
"Southern trees bear a strange fruit" (1) in his poem. The entire poem itself is a metaphor because
the poem compares African Americans that have been lynched, and the strange fruit that hangs from
trees. The poem is comparing the strange fruit to it actually being the African Americans that were

War, Fruits Vs. Vegetables
We are at war, fruits vs. vegetables. We have been fighting for centuries now, blood and gore could

Vegetables didn't have to listen to the Fruits. My grandfather fought on V–Day, he was a brave
avocado soldier the Vegetable Army ever had. The was the day everything was going to change for
the vegetables but it didn't change as much as my father thought it would. Plus the reason we were
fighting for is stupid.
Today is September 14, 2013. I didn't understand why vegetables and fruits were in constant
fighting. Vegetables say that they 're healthier for the Creator, but Fruits say they 're sweeter for the
Creator. Well long–story–short, the Creator doesn't know we are talking and living food. We call
him the creator because he created the Fruits and Vegetables. Vegetables are the poorest part of our
society, our society is what our creator calls "Farm" or "Greenhouse". Anyways, I am part of the
Vegetables. The Fruits don't respect us and think less of us, they think they are better than us
because the creator always picks them first for the "Stage". Nobody really knows what happens in
the "Stage", no one has come back from the Stage to tell the story. We just consider it as an honor to
be selected for the Stage, but seems were vegetables we are almost never picked. The Fruits still let

Essay On Demand Of Fruits And Vegetables
Demand of Fruits and their prices
Aim and Objective of this study:
As the Indian population is increasing, the demand for fresh fruits and vegetables is also increasing.
Owing to the perishable nature and very short shelf life, these items require storage and
transportation facilities in order to reach to the customer in fresh state. This requires a considerable
amount of effort from the involved parties. The entire chain is fraught with issues like lack of
transparency in pricing (at the farmers' end), dominance of traders, weak links in supply chain, etc.
This leads to loss of revenue to the farmer and increased additional costs to the other supply chain
partners, which ultimately enforces the final consumer to bear extra burden on his ... Show more

Strange Fruit Meaning
Strange Fruit The song Strange Fruit was first recorded by the famous jazz singer Billie Holiday and
release in 1939. The genre of the song was blues and jazz. Strange Fruit was an early cry for the
Civil Rights Movement, exposed racism, and performed the practice o hanging. The song has simple
lyrics, that carry a huge strength, and haunt you even when the song is over. The juxtaposition of the
beautiful landscape, the scent of flowers, with the blood of human beings brutally beaten, gives a
powerful and poignant felling to the song. The song exposes the brutality of racism in America, and
doesn't leave any room for more words. When the meaning of the song is fully grasped, one remains
shocked, angry and disguste by the imagery portrayed. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Billie Holiday, perhaps the greates singer in the jazz history, delivers a soul–emptying vocal lament
over a groove as deep and dark as the history of lynching itself. In Holiday's unforgettable singing
we can hear all the rage and resignation, the sorrow and determination, the bitterness and hope, as if
her voice could carry the full emotional burden of the long and conflicted history of race in
America. The song is heartbraking. The song is simple in its structure, having only three stanzas and
12 lines. The lines follow a rhyme pattern, where in each consecutive pair of lines has their ending
thyming with each other. Stange Fruit describes the scene of a lynching of a Black American and its
resemblance to a fruit hanging from a tree. The bodies were described as "strange fruits". There are
a few methafors in the song; trees are symbol of life. Meeropol's tree has "blood on the leaves and
blood at the root", showing that both recent and older generations of African Americans have
experienced the same sort of violent persecution. This portest song was praised for its concise yet
strong description of the butal treatment given to Black Americans. Holiday's rendition decorated it
with such beauty and power that caught the attention of White Americas. This ignited the Black's

Introduction
Motivation: Not just only consists of the most delicious foods in the world, but Thailand is also one
of the countries which have various of unique fruits with unique flavors as its representation. On the
other hands, even if they are unique in flavors, different types of fruits could look really similar to
each other. Moreover, according to www.fruitsinfo.com, there are approximately over a thousand
types of fruit around the world, and each region of the world has a different type of fruits depended
on weather, soil, and temperature. Therefore, it is difficult for an individual to clearly distinguish the
differences and identify each type of fruits.

Hydroponics
Introduction
NAME HERE and I became fascinated by hydroponics and the idea that one doesn't have to get
their hands dirty to be a great gardener, and if your like us that's a good thing.
The idea of hydroponics has been around since the pyramids where build, but in all these years it
never seemed to catch on. It took about forty–six hundred years before the first scientist took a look
at hydroponics and adapted it to grow crops, this was a professor at the University of California, and
the result was a 25 foot tomato plant that had to be harvest by a ladder. Thus hydroponics was
reborn and has been advancing ever since. Yet up to 5 years ago the home grower and generally the
public didn't know about hydroponics. It was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This plant may have only grown 7cm but it has a diameter of 6cm, which may be smaller than the
peas but in my opinion the tomatoes look way more healthier than the peas, because the leaves on
the tomatoes are bigger and have a nicer shade of green.
Peas(The vegetable)results–This plant came in at a close third. It has a length of 13cm. Even though
it has a longer stem than the tomatoes it was our opinion that the peas weren't as healthy looking as
the tomatoes were. Some of its leaves where green, but some had unhealthy looking spots on them.
Tinkerbell(The flower)results–The results of this plant wasn't very good at all. Not only did this
plant come in dead last but it also looks almost dead.
It grow about 1cm in the first week and just kind of stopped there.
Summary
To summarize this project, I would have to say that it was a success.
Since we have answer the problem of which plant thrives the greatest. Obviously, the bean, our
legume is the best by far and the tomatoes our fruit is second the peas our vegetable are third, and
dwindling in last the last place the all non– mighty flower the tinkerbell.

Fruit Browning Lab Report
Abstract: What we are testing in this lab is the effect of inhibitors on browning of enzymes. The
fruits and vegetables are affected easily to browning because of interaction with polyphenol
oxidases. We start by setting up an experiment to find out if the inhibitor is going to reduce of stop
amount of browning in potato extract. We tested 5 different compounds to find out which the best
inhibitor. Out of the 5 compounds we chose 3 that worked the best and experimented on them
further in the second experiment. This was accomplished by adding additional drops of the
inhibitors to those compounds that worked the best.

Water was the control of the experiment. Compound B and E were the compounds that produced the
most browning in the first experiment. You can see this by looking at the first table, showing that
Compounds B and E had the highest OD value. For the table with values in response to increasing
inhibitor concentrations, when there is 6 drops of inhibitor, the OD values were at highest for all
compounds. You can see in the graph when there is 2–4 drops of inhibitor, the OD values increase
slowly. When there is 8–10 drops of inhibitor, the OD values decrease. Compounds A,C, and D are
working inhibitors because they are producing the least amount of browning. The OD values were
low in compounds A,C and D. The OD values were high for compounds B,E. In the second
experiment, compounds A,C, and D were tested. Water was control for this experiment also. Instead
of 2–10 drops of catechol, 8–40 drops of catechol were tested. For compounds A and C, from 8

Descroption of the Kiwi Fruit
For the following assignment I have chosen kiwi fruit as my source of concentration and focus. As I
started to explore this object, first I have decided to focus on the outer appearance. Just by looking
at the kiwi fruit, the shape that I noticed is oval or cylindrical, kind of egg–shaped fruit, a little
similar to lemon size, with the two ends on each side. It is also pretty clean and uniform in shape,
meaning that it's not wrinkled or shriveled as I look at it. Skin of the fruit is covered with the thin,
short, and fuzzy little hair, almost like it's wrapped with moss that is of brown color with the dark
green layer underneath of it that is evidently flat and plain. The overall color of kiwi is a mixture of
brown with dark green. As I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Comparing the two separate parts that I tasted, I noticed that the white center inside the kiwi was
harder in composition than the green pulp which was much squishy. I also came to conclusion that
the pulp itself had its characteristic taste of luscious and delectable taste, whereas the white center
was pretty sweet but tasteless at the same time, meaning that it didn't distinguish from any particular
flavor that I could compare to. As I worked on this assignment, I observed that as I tried to
concentrate more on the object, I became more frustrated and angry since I tried to get as much
details as I could. When I was describing the external appearance of the fruit, I didn't have any
major problems because I relied on my senses such touch, hear, smell, but as I was exploring the
internal appearance in which I mostly relied on my taste, it was pretty hard for me to focus and
describe it in details. Fortunately, with each detail that I found, I got more involved in this and the
flow of new thoughts and ideas came to my head. The more I was concentrating, the bigger
commitment I put into this assignment. I really tried to put an effort in this task and be as much
enthusiastic as I could to make this assignment pleasing, instead of just playing with it and doing it
in a half–hearted

Fruit Tree Diversity And Fruit Consumption
Chapter 4: Fruit tree diversity and fruit consumption in the context of deforestation in Cameroon
1. INTRODUCTION
The world has been confronted with serious difficulties in curbing down the rate of
undernourishment especially in sub–Sahara Africa (Vinceti et al., 2013, Arnold et al., 2011,
Goenster et al., 2011). In developing countries, the livelihood and food security of smallholder land
users are often at risk from unpredictable harvests, land degradation and climate change
(Paumgarten and Shackleton, 2011, Mertens et al., 2000, Ndoye and Kaimowitz, 2000, Sunderlin et
al., 2000). Of about one billion hungry people, 98% live in developing countries. Seventy percent of
chronically hungry people are smallholder farmers, 43% of total farmers worldwide are women and
38% of youths in Africa are working in agriculture (Conway and Wilson, 2012, FAO, 2011). For
instance, in forest areas of Cameroon, stunting and chronic malnutrition was experienced by 30.3%
of children between 24–47 months in the South region and 27.8% in the Centre region (Socpa et al.,
2008). Since the varieties of fruits are quite many (Matig et al., 2006, van–Wyk, 2005) and vary
from one season and climatic region to another, fruits and wild foods can constitute important
sources of food (Vinceti et al., 2013, Termote et al., 2012, Ingram and Shure 2010, Nesbit et al.,
2010, Shackleton and Shackleton, 2004) during food scarcity. Thus, fruits can serve as safety nets
(Paumgarten and Shackleton, 2011) in the

Fruit Mold Lab Report
Fruit Molds

Abstract
In this lab we looked at the mold on three different fruits in three different environments to asses
which fruit would have the most mold and in which environment the mold would be present the
most. For the experiment we used fruits that were in season so that we could also compare organic
and non–organic fruit. Because of this my group chose tomatoes, peaches and apples. We
hypothesized that peaches would rot the most out of each of the fruits and that the peaches would rot
the most in our warmest environment, the incubator. The fruits were then observed over a period of
weeks. At the end of this period of time the peaches had rotted the most and burst and the peaches in
the incubator were the first to go.
Introduction
After learning about different types of mold in lab as well as in lecture, my group and I were
interested in studying mold more. We wanted to know which fruits from our selected few would rot
the most and in which environment would they be most likely to rot or mold in. We learned ... Show

We will also see if there is any big difference between organic and inorganic fruit. According to our
lab on fungus we already knew what the mold would look like so we were pretty confident that we
would be able to identify it without a problem (lab 17 The Kingdom Fungi). With our own
knowledge we hypothesized that that out of the tomatoes, peaches, and apples that the peaches
would rot the most and that they would rot the most while in the incubator (an environment which is
approximately 90 degrees Fahrenheit). About a month later and having observed our fruits in
various increments we found that the peaches and the tomatoes were pretty close together but they
peaches ultimately molded the most and molded the most within the

Sam Van Aken: The Tree Of 40 Fruit
"The Tree of 40 Fruit" is as magical as it sounds.
Sam Van Aken, artist and Syracuse University professor, uses what is known as the grafting
technique to grow a tree that bears 40 different kinds of fruits.
Simply put, the process involves taking out a branch from a tree and inserting it into a slit of the
branch of the "working tree". It will then be wrapped with a tape until it completely heals for a
certain time frame. Come spring time, the "working tree" blossoms into several hues of pink and
purple. Then when it's summer time, it bears numerous stone fruits like peaches, nectarines,
cherries, apricots, plums, and almonds.
The impressive concept originated back in 2008 when Van Aken chanced upon an abandoned
orchard holding varieties

Select your favorite vegetable or fruit and research its origin, nutritional value, uses, and folklore
The apple goes pretty far down toward history as one of the most notable fruits. It is dated with
myths such as Adam and Eve from the Book of Genesis and was referred to as the "forbidden fruit"
("Apple Lore", n.d). They have been said to originate from the mountains of Kazakhstan about a
million years ago (Synan, 2013).The accepted scientific name for the apple is Malus pumila but is
also referred to as Malus domestica, Malus sylvestris, and Malus communis depending on their
nature (Black, n.d.). Apples can be classified as wild or domestic nature. The scientific name of the
apple tree is called the Pyrus malus. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The apple contains Vitamin C and is rich in dietary fiber (Rudrappa, 2009). Since the apple is
enriched in Vitamin C and the phyto–nutrients flavonoids and polyphenolics, it acts as a huge
antioxidant and helps protect from cancer causing chemicals and other diseases and infections
(Rudrappa, 2009). It is an ideal fruit to combat Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease.
However, though the apple is low in calories, it can contain minerals such as folate, potassium and
niacin. Potassium is good for improving cardiac health and even assists in controlling blood
pressure. Wild and raw apples are also made up of 80% water and assist in digestion (Synan, 2013).
In addition, apples are used to improve lung health, skin tone, and to rid of

Notes On ' Wild Fruits '
Wild berries. Medical wild strawberries are categorized as a member of the Rose family taxonomy.
They are found throughout the Alberta province in western Canada, but not common in the
southeast. The leaves of the strawberry have three toothed leaflets and five white petals. The leaves
of the wild berries are delicate as opposed to the typical leaves which are less delicate. The unripe
berries are green and coat with a slightly red color. The ripper the berries the more it adds up the red
color to the berries. The ordinary strawberries, which are grown for commercial purpose are
considered to be of hybrid origin between the wild berries. The smell of the berries is almost
synonymous with the typical berries, but the difference lies in the size of the fruit, wild strawberries
are relatively small compared to the first berries. The fruits grow wild and are found in the lowest
valleys in moist soils of woods beside streams. They grow in open–well drained places in the
lowland of subalpine zones. Wild strawberries are perennial herbs that grow from a fibrous root.
They are eaten by some birds and mammals. (Jump Start: A Northwest Renaissance Anthology
2009) The wild strawberries also known as the Alpine strawberries are very popularly used for
therapeutic purposes. Traditionally all the parts of the wild berries, the leaves, fruits, roots, and the
stem was used to treat various disorders. The roots of the strawberry plant were used commonly for

How The Fruit Leaves Brown?
Research Did you know an estimated six billion pounds of fruits and vegetables are wasted every
year in the U.S. because they are "ugly", according to reports by the Natural Resources Defense
Council. American families waste about 25% of the food and beverages they buy annually. The
estimated cost of food and beverages thrown out by the average American family each year is
around $1,500. Most of that waste is due to not storing or preserving foods properly, which results in
mold or browning. Why Does Fruit Turn Brown? When fruit is outside for a certain period of time it
turns brown. Fruits such as apples turn brown due to oxidisation. Enzymes in the fruit such as
polyphenol oxidase and catechol oxidase react with oxygen in the air and an iron or copper cofactor
in the fruit. A cofactor is a component that is necessary for a certain enzymatic reactions to happen.
The fruit starts to oxidize, when electrons are lost to another molecule (in this case the air), and the
food turns brown. What Factors Cause Decaying? Some fruits and vegetables such as oranges or
peppers have thick cell walls that keep the fruit fresh for days or even weeks. Over a period of time
these cell walls begin to decompose. You usually notice your fruit has gone bad by the color, taste,or
smell. The changes in these fruits can be caused by air, oxygen, moisture, light, temperature, and

Drosophila melanogaster, also known as the fruit fly, we will determine whether the gene is sex–

organism for genetic studies because it has simple food requirements, occupies little space, is hardy,

The industry in which Zespri functions in within New Zealand can be broken up into three broad
value generating activities. The first activity is growing of kiwifruit which pertains to the orchards
and includes pest and disease control and harvesting. The second includes the post harvesting
activities including grading, packing and storing. The final stage and perhaps the most intrinsic
stage includes the exporting. This includes the selling and distribution of the kiwifruit to overseas
markets. Zespri International group is responsible for marketing almost all the export quality fruit
from New Zeland. The only exclusion being the Austrailian Market.
COMPANY STRATEGY
Ensuring success was not always easy for Zespri. In fact it can be said that the mere creation itself
of Zespri by the New Zealand Kiwifruit Industry was a branding strategy created to regain the lost
opportunity taken by New Zealands lower cost counter parts; Chile and Italy (cvtb). It seemed as
though the new strategy was a valid attempt to develope and sustain a market orientation within the
broad Kiwifruit industry.Zespri's structure was always said to be from the 'Market to the orchard' as
opposed to traditionally being the other way around (cvtb). The brand strategy's main aim was to
differentiate New Zealand's own kiwifruit as being something iconic and premium as a product. The
aim furthered out to moving Zespri out from

Citrus Fruits Baby
Dominating the agriculture industry that thrives in the United States, citrus fruit, in particular
oranges, are the staple crop of Florida. The importance of citrus fruit production to U.S. agriculture
as a whole is enormous. Within the United States alone, the consumption of oranges per person is
greater than that of any other fruit. In 2011, the average American consumed an astonishing 76.3
pounds of citrus fruit per year (Boriss, 2013, pg. 1). With such a great deal of the average American
diet being so heavily reliant on the citrus fruit industry, any disturbances within the industry will
have a tremendous effect on the food consumer by Americans, let alone those to whom the food is
exported to. For the past several, a disease known as citrus greening, has been ravaging the citrus
fruit population throughout Central Florida crippling the local economy and the citrus fruit industry
as a whole. Simply stated, citrus greening is a disease which causes citrus fruits to be sour,
malformed, and unable to be harvested. The long–term effects of citrus greening will eventually
cause the entire tree to die before spreading to the rest of the plants within the citrus grove (Allen,
2011, pg. 1). As a result, the severity of this disease has caused many to question the sustainability
of this perennial staple crop for the state of Florida, and the long–term potential impacts it could
have on the state's economy. Because there is such heavy reliance on the sustainability of

Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit Analysis
Throughout Jeanette Winterson's 'Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit' and Christina Rossetti's 'Selected
Poems', fruit is often used as a symbol to explore deeper meanings within the texts, such as
sexuality, sin and temptation in the form of homosexuality and Adam and Eve in the Garden of
Eden, the psyche and differing beliefs of religious followers and atheists. This exploration is further
illuminated by Williams' 'A Streetcar Named Desire' and provides some insightful views and
contradictions. *finish introduction*

The use of the *find out what kind of word it is* 'unpecked' has connotations to the idea of virginity
when paired with the noun 'cherries', and presents the image of something that is untouched and
pure. This would all change once the girls had been subjected to the goblin fruits. If we take the
consumption of the goblin fruits as the loss of innocence and, in this case, virginity, then the poem
can be seen as a warning to Victorian society about the dangers of temptation. If we look at the fable
of Jeanie within the poem, she was tempted by the goblin fruits, which resulted in her becoming ill
and dying. The Victorians didn't like to talk about sex, but they were fascinated with it. This links
back to 'Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit' and the idea of temptation, as Jeanette has to keep her
relationships with Melanie and Katy, and her sexuality hidden, due to the 'forbidden' nature of it,
and the views of the church community. This in turn links back to the idea of 'forbidden fruit' that
Adam and Eve consumed, which caused them to be thrown from the Garden of Eden, and the idea
of Paradise. This comes back full circle to the idea of the 'forbidden fruit' of the

Essay On Dried Fruits
What do u prefer, fresh fruits or dried fruits ? Which choice is healthier? A question we may ask
because many people don't like the idea of eating fresh fruits. So the question is : Can we replace
fresh fruits with dried ones ? As everything in life it is choice you have to take. It is a very commom
snack among young children, and adults as well. Drying is a very good way to preserve foods and
use it for a long period of time . As many processed food, it could lose some of its nutrients . Here is
a summary for the steps that are taken for this process:
Heat or air dryness in a good air circulation.
Select fresh, fully ripened fruit .
Dip food in ascorbic acid, citric acid or lemon juice
Condition to 4 to 10 days before packaging
Put it in tighten containers.
The history of dried food originates long time ago fresh fruits at that time were not available in all
seasons ,so they used these methods so they can find something to eat in the winter seasons. The
before using these fruits they used to reconstituted it with water to add the water what was lost
during the drying methods. Of course the methods they used to try the fruit were very basic. In these
days dried food is being used as a way to avoid eating eating the fresh fruits. As some people try to
avoid eating fresh fruits. Can dried fruits replace the fresh fruits or not. We will try to answer this
question in different aspects. In this paper we will discuss dried berries , their nutrition values,

Determination Of Fruit Firmness
Introduction
The development of sensors to measure fruit internal quality variable is one of the challenges of post
– harvest technology. Several variables can currently be measured, including sugar content, firmness
and internal disorders.
Fruit quality is related to both internal variables (firmness, sugar content, acid content and internal
effect) and external variables (shape, size, external defects and damage). Increasing consumer
demand for high quality has led to the development of optical, acoustic, and mechanical sensors that
determines this quality.
Fruit firmness is one of the most important quality variables; it is an indirect measurement of

The Fate Of The Fruit That Changed The World
The author of the book, "The Fate of the Fruit that Changed the World" (2008), Dan Koeppel, who
is a famous journalist describes in a fascinating way banana's cultural importance, threats associated
with the crops of banana in the future and banana' history. Banana is a very delicious fruit and is
eaten all over the world. Banana is one of the world's fourth largest harvests in the world. Dole and
Chiquita are eminent American based distributors and producers of banana. They are claiming to
produce the banana on low price. In this book, Koeppel discusses the risks associated to the
plantation of banana around the world. He also discusses the fact that due to blight, the plantation of
banana is destroyed (Koeppel, 2008). He points out that the farmers and the producers have no
insight at all regarding this matter (Koeppel, 2008).

Not Your Typical Fruit
Not Your Typical Fruit In the novel, Banana: The Fate of the Fruit That Changed the World by Dan

Speech On Fruit Fly Traps

  • 1. Speech On Fruit Fly Traps Fruit flies are annoying and seem to come from nowhere, are hard to kill, and once they appear they seem to stick around forever! Well, nobody cares where they come from, just as long as they leave! Traditional methods like swatting them, spraying them with insecticide often prove futile. Because, you can never swat them all and, who wants to spray insecticide over food? So, what is the solution? Trapping them! Yes, trapping fruit flies is amazingly effective way to get rid of fruit flies. Today in this article, I am going to show you different types of fruit fly traps, their construction, effectiveness, and working. In addition to this, we will also see different types of homemade and store–brought baits/Lures and see their effectiveness. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The attractants like apple cider vinegar, wine, or tequila contain acetic acid molecules and hence the fruit flies are attracted to them. Apple Cider Vinegar Fruit Fly Trap: I can bet, you will hear the name of apple cider vinegar traps every time, someone talks about fruit fly traps. Apple cider vinegar is one of the most popular attractants used in fruit fly traps. Fruit flies have a great affinity towards apple cider vinegar. To use it as a lure in fly traps – Mix a cup of apple cider vinegar with 3 – 5 drops of dish soap. Dish soap breaks the surface tension of the attractant and causes the trapped flies to sink as soon as they come in contact with the lure. Another important tip is that – Heating the apple cider vinegar in the microwave for about 10 –15 seconds before using it, makes it more effective. Household vinegar is composed of diluted acetic acid with water. When the vinegar is heated, the water molecules evaporate, thereby increasing the concentration of acetic acid in the mixture. Doing this releases more of the vinegar's fragrance and hence attracts more fruit flies. Apple cider vinegar can be used with any of three traps mentioned

  • 4. Fruit Valley Case Study Fruit Valley has many strengths that would be cohesive to an aging friendly community. For instance, the closeness and proximity of the houses to one another would help to keep the elderly individuals close enough together to be able to lean on each other for support and companionship. Although a few things could be added to better assist this growing population in this neighborhood, for example, elderly assistance for shopping needs, a close–by grocery store, delivery services for groceries, pharmaceutical and medical supplies. Currently, Fruit Valley uses the Elementary school as the hub of the community and this would be a great place to hub resources for the elderly as well. Countless amenities could be added to make this a more convenient neighborhood for the aging population. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Elderly individuals could come in the mornings for coffee and help the K–5 aged children off the bus and into the cafeteria for breakfast, then off to their classrooms for instruction time. This would create a volunteer opportunity for the aging population in addition to providing a little extra attention and nurturing for the kids, this could evolve to story time, after school care, and a buddy to walk littles (K–5) home after school. Andrew Lehning, Andrew Scharlach, and Teresa Dal Santo discuss in their article, A web based approach for helping communities become more "Aging friendly", that there are three characteristics to creating an aging friendly community and having a sense of purpose and self– worth are key components in this concept. By integrating seniors with children, we as a community are providing a need that the seniors are fulfilling which is thought to prolong the life of most in this proposed theory (Lehning, ... Ever since, my parents have been involved in this industry one way or another. If it were not for this industry, my parents would not have a job. Not earning enough money, I would have had to find employment to help my family, financially, year–round. • 7. Fruit Tree Diversity And Fruit Consumption Chapter 4: Fruit tree diversity and fruit consumption in the context of deforestation in Cameroon 1. INTRODUCTION The world has been confronted with serious difficulties in curbing the rate of undernourishment, especially in sub–Sahara Africa (Vicenti et al., 2013; Arnold et al., 2011; Goenster et al., 2011). In developing countries, the livelihood and food security of smallholder land users are often at risk from unpredictable harvests, land degradation and climate change (Paumgarten and Shackleton, 2011; Mertens et al., 2000; Ndoye and Kaimowitz, 2000; Sunderlin et al., 2000). Of about one billion hungry people globally, 98% live in developing countries. Seventy percent of chronically hungry people are smallholder farmers, 43% of total farmers worldwide are women and 38% of youths in Africa are working in agriculture (Conway and Wilson, 2012; FAO, 2011). For instance, in forest areas of Cameroon, stunting and chronic malnutrition was experienced by 30.3% of children between 24–47 months in the South region and 27.8% in the Centre region (Socpa et al., 2008). Since the varieties of wildfruits are numerous (Matig et al., 2006; van Wyk, 2005) and vary from one season and climatic region to another, fruits and wild foods can constitute important sources of food during crop scarcity (Vicenti et al., 2013; Termote et al., 2012; Ingram and Shure 2010; Nesbit et al., 2010; Shackleton and Shackleton, 2004). • 8. Bizarre Fruit Bizarre Fruit In the mid 1930's, the south would perform, what they believed to be acts of justice by hanging, or lynching, black men who were convicted of doing a crime. The Poem "Strange Fruit" is an interesting poem depicts a very horrid image of pure racism in the south and how lynchings were such a gruesome image, and was meant to be a "protest against the inhumanity of racism"(Blair) . The poem "Strange Fruit" was published in 1937 by Abel Meeropol after he viewed an image of a lynching that occurred in the south. Meeropol was "'haunted'" by the image and was inspired to write and publish the poem (Meeropol). Abel Meeropol was already against racism in America and when he saw the appalling image of two African American people being lynched ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The elements of imagery are seen in the poem when Abel writes "The bulgin' eyes and the twisted mouth" (6). The sentence describes a very horrid image of how the African Americans looks as they were being hanged against their will. This depicts imagery because it gives a very detailed image in the reader's mind of how they looked like as they were hanged. Personification is present in the poem "Strange Fruit" when Meeropol writes "For the rain to gather, for the wind to suck" (10). This is personification because it gives the rain the trait of gathering things, and it also gives the wind the trait of sucking. Within the poem, Meeropol also includes juxtaposition, for example when he says "Scent of magnolias sweet and fresh/ Then the sudden smell of burnin' flesh" (7–8). This is an example of juxtaposition because it brings out the difference between the sweet smell of a flower, and the bad dark smell of burning flesh, and it makes the difference between those things more apparent. Throughout the poem "Strange Fruit" Meeropol also uses metaphors, such as when he puts "Southern trees bear a strange fruit" (1) in his poem. The entire poem itself is a metaphor because the poem compares African Americans that have been lynched, and the strange fruit that hangs from trees. The poem is comparing the strange fruit to it actually being the African Americans that were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. War, Fruits Vs. Vegetables We are at war, fruits vs. vegetables. We have been fighting for centuries now, blood and gore could be smelled anywhere you go, countless bodies and corpses. The Vegetables were fighting for equal rights, they didn't want to be their servants anymore. But on 1956, V–Day was the day the Vegetables didn't have to listen to the Fruits. My grandfather fought on V–Day, he was a brave avocado soldier the Vegetable Army ever had. The was the day everything was going to change for the vegetables but it didn't change as much as my father thought it would. Plus the reason we were fighting for is stupid. Today is September 14, 2013. I didn't understand why vegetables and fruits were in constant fighting. Vegetables say that they 're healthier for the Creator, but Fruits say they 're sweeter for the Creator. Well long–story–short, the Creator doesn't know we are talking and living food. We call him the creator because he created the Fruits and Vegetables. Vegetables are the poorest part of our society, our society is what our creator calls "Farm" or "Greenhouse". Anyways, I am part of the Vegetables. The Fruits don't respect us and think less of us, they think they are better than us because the creator always picks them first for the "Stage". Nobody really knows what happens in the "Stage", no one has come back from the Stage to tell the story. We just consider it as an honor to be selected for the Stage, but seems were vegetables we are almost never picked. The Fruits still let us ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Essay On Demand Of Fruits And Vegetables Demand of Fruits and their prices Aim and Objective of this study: As the Indian population is increasing, the demand for fresh fruits and vegetables is also increasing. Owing to the perishable nature and very short shelf life, these items require storage and transportation facilities in order to reach to the customer in fresh state. This requires a considerable amount of effort from the involved parties. The entire chain is fraught with issues like lack of transparency in pricing (at the farmers' end), dominance of traders, weak links in supply chain, etc. This leads to loss of revenue to the farmer and increased additional costs to the other supply chain partners, which ultimately enforces the final consumer to bear extra burden on his ... Strange Fruit was an early cry for the Civil Rights Movement, exposed racism, and performed the practice o hanging. The song has simple lyrics, that carry a huge strength, and haunt you even when the song is over. The juxtaposition of the beautiful landscape, the scent of flowers, with the blood of human beings brutally beaten, gives a powerful and poignant felling to the song. The song exposes the brutality of racism in America, and doesn't leave any room for more words. Billie Holiday, perhaps the greates singer in the jazz history, delivers a soul–emptying vocal lament over a groove as deep and dark as the history of lynching itself. In Holiday's unforgettable singing we can hear all the rage and resignation, the sorrow and determination, the bitterness and hope, as if her voice could carry the full emotional burden of the long and conflicted history of race in America. The song is heartbraking. The song is simple in its structure, having only three stanzas and 12 lines. The lines follow a rhyme pattern, where in each consecutive pair of lines has their ending thyming with each other. Stange Fruit describes the scene of a lynching of a Black American and its resemblance to a fruit hanging from a tree. The bodies were described as "strange fruits". There are a few methafors in the song; trees are symbol of life. Meeropol's tree has "blood on the leaves and blood at the root", showing that both recent and older generations of African Americans have experienced the same sort of violent persecution. We tested 5 different compounds to find out which the best inhibitor. Out of the 5 compounds we chose 3 that worked the best and experimented on them further in the second experiment. This was accomplished by adding additional drops of the inhibitors to those compounds that worked the best. • 25. Fruit Tree Diversity And Fruit Consumption Chapter 4: Fruit tree diversity and fruit consumption in the context of deforestation in Cameroon 1. INTRODUCTION The world has been confronted with serious difficulties in curbing down the rate of undernourishment especially in sub–Sahara Africa (Vinceti et al., 2013, Arnold et al., 2011, Goenster et al., 2011). In developing countries, the livelihood and food security of smallholder land users are often at risk from unpredictable harvests, land degradation and climate change (Paumgarten and Shackleton, 2011, Mertens et al., 2000, Ndoye and Kaimowitz, 2000, Sunderlin et al., 2000). Of about one billion hungry people, 98% live in developing countries. Seventy percent of chronically hungry people are smallholder farmers, 43% of total farmers worldwide are women and 38% of youths in Africa are working in agriculture (Conway and Wilson, 2012, FAO, 2011). For instance, in forest areas of Cameroon, stunting and chronic malnutrition was experienced by 30.3% of children between 24–47 months in the South region and 27.8% in the Centre region (Socpa et al., 2008). Since the varieties of fruits are quite many (Matig et al., 2006, van–Wyk, 2005) and vary from one season and climatic region to another, fruits and wild foods can constitute important sources of food (Vinceti et al., 2013, Termote et al., 2012, Ingram and Shure 2010, Nesbit et al., 2010, Shackleton and Shackleton, 2004) during food scarcity. Fruit Mold Lab Report Fruit Molds Brenna Rivera November 29, 2016 Anaruth Alfaro Abstract In this lab we looked at the mold on three different fruits in three different environments to asses which fruit would have the most mold and in which environment the mold would be present the most. For the experiment we used fruits that were in season so that we could also compare organic and non–organic fruit. Because of this my group chose tomatoes, peaches and apples. We hypothesized that peaches would rot the most out of each of the fruits and that the peaches would rot the most in our warmest environment, the incubator. The fruits were then observed over a period of weeks. At the end of this period of time the peaches had rotted the most and burst and the peaches in the incubator were the first to go. • 29. Notes On ' Wild Fruits ' Wild berries. Medical wild strawberries are categorized as a member of the Rose family taxonomy. They are found throughout the Alberta province in western Canada, but not common in the southeast. The leaves of the strawberry have three toothed leaflets and five white petals. The leaves of the wild berries are delicate as opposed to the typical leaves which are less delicate. The unripe berries are green and coat with a slightly red color. The ripper the berries the more it adds up the red color to the berries. The ordinary strawberries, which are grown for commercial purpose are considered to be of hybrid origin between the wild berries. The smell of the berries is almost synonymous with the typical berries, but the difference lies in the size of the fruit, wild strawberries are relatively small compared to the first berries. The fruits grow wild and are found in the lowest valleys in moist soils of woods beside streams. They grow in open–well drained places in the lowland of subalpine zones. • 30. How The Fruit Leaves Brown? Research Did you know an estimated six billion pounds of fruits and vegetables are wasted every year in the U.S. because they are "ugly", according to reports by the Natural Resources Defense Council. American families waste about 25% of the food and beverages they buy annually. The estimated cost of food and beverages thrown out by the average American family each year is around $1,500. Most of that waste is due to not storing or preserving foods properly, which results in mold or browning. Why Does Fruit Turn Brown? When fruit is outside for a certain period of time it turns brown. Fruits such as apples turn brown due to oxidisation. Enzymes in the fruit such as polyphenol oxidase and catechol oxidase react with oxygen in the air and an iron or copper cofactor in the fruit. A cofactor is a component that is necessary for a certain enzymatic reactions to happen. The fruit starts to oxidize, when electrons are lost to another molecule (in this case the air), and the food turns brown. What Factors Cause Decaying? Some fruits and vegetables such as oranges or peppers have thick cell walls that keep the fruit fresh for days or even weeks. Over a period of time these cell walls begin to decompose. You usually notice your fruit has gone bad by the color, taste,or smell. The changes in these fruits can be caused by air, oxygen, moisture, light, temperature, and microbial ... • 36. Citrus Fruits Baby Dominating the agriculture industry that thrives in the United States, citrus fruit, in particular oranges, are the staple crop of Florida. The importance of citrus fruit production to U.S. agriculture as a whole is enormous. Within the United States alone, the consumption of oranges per person is greater than that of any other fruit. In 2011, the average American consumed an astonishing 76.3 pounds of citrus fruit per year (Boriss, 2013, pg. 1). With such a great deal of the average American diet being so heavily reliant on the citrus fruit industry, any disturbances within the industry will have a tremendous effect on the food consumer by Americans, let alone those to whom the food is exported to. For the past several, a disease known as citrus greening, has been ravaging the citrus fruit population throughout Central Florida crippling the local economy and the citrus fruit industry as a whole. Simply stated, citrus greening is a disease which causes citrus fruits to be sour, malformed, and unable to be harvested. The long–term effects of citrus greening will eventually cause the entire tree to die before spreading to the rest of the plants within the citrus grove (Allen, 2011, pg. 1). As a result, the severity of this disease has caused many to question the sustainability of this perennial staple crop for the state of Florida, and the long–term potential impacts it could have on the state's economy. Because there is such heavy reliance on the sustainability of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit Analysis Throughout Jeanette Winterson's 'Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit' and Christina Rossetti's 'Selected Poems', fruit is often used as a symbol to explore deeper meanings within the texts, such as sexuality, sin and temptation in the form of homosexuality and Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, the psyche and differing beliefs of religious followers and atheists. This exploration is further illuminated by Williams' 'A Streetcar Named Desire' and provides some insightful views and contradictions. *finish introduction* The repetition of the noun 'fruit' is used to highlight the differing beliefs that make up the church community in 'Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit'; 'fruit salad, fruit pie, fruit for fools, fruited punch. The use of the *find out what kind of word it is* 'unpecked' has connotations to the idea of virginity when paired with the noun 'cherries', and presents the image of something that is untouched and pure. This would all change once the girls had been subjected to the goblin fruits. If we take the consumption of the goblin fruits as the loss of innocence and, in this case, virginity, then the poem can be seen as a warning to Victorian society about the dangers of temptation. If we look at the fable of Jeanie within the poem, she was tempted by the goblin fruits, which resulted in her becoming ill and dying. The Victorians didn't like to talk about sex, but they were fascinated with it. This links back to 'Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit' and the idea of temptation, as Jeanette has to keep her relationships with Melanie and Katy, and her sexuality hidden, due to the 'forbidden' nature of it, and the views of the church community. This in turn links back to the idea of 'forbidden fruit' that Adam and Eve consumed, which caused them to be thrown from the Garden of Eden, and the idea of Paradise. This comes back full circle to the idea of the 'forbidden fruit' of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. How The Fruit Leaves Brown? Essay Research Did you know an estimated six billion pounds of fruits and vegetables are wasted every year in the U.S. because they are "ugly", according to reports by the Natural Resources Defense Council. The changes in these fruits can be caused by air, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
