Joan of Arc
Joan was born in Domremy, France in 1412. She worked on a farm as her father; Jackes
did and was very religious. When she was 12 years, she had a vision. She saw Michael the
Archangel who told her that she was to lead the French in a battle against the English. Later,
she had others, She said that were beautiful visions from God. Many years after, she decided
to obey her visions and take action.
First, she wanted to get an army to defeat the English. And for that reason, Joan decided
she would ask King Charles of France for one. After a long time insisting the commander of
the garrison accepted his request of meeting the king who though that there was nothing to lose
and let Joan accompany a convoy of soldiers and supplies to the city of Orleans under siege
from the English Army. For that reason she practiced to combat in battle and to ride a horse
until she was ready to go fighting.
When people knew about Joan’s visions they celebrated to her, thinking God wanted to
save them from the English. When the time of battle started, she started fighting when one
arrow hurt her; however she still going forward until she and her soldiers could repel the
English troops and caused them to retreat from Orleans. She had won a great victory and saved
the French from the English. Nevertheless, she hadn´t fulfilled all her visions. So, Joan and her

army cleared the way to Rheims, gaining followers as she went. Soon they had made it to
Rheims and Charles was crowned King of France.
There are theories which say that the whole story of Joan of Arc is a myth. Theories
that said that she wasn´t a Christian, but rather a member of a pagan cult, and that she wasn´t
burned at the stake. Also, some theories said that she was secretly the half sister of King
Charles VII. However, historians haven´t accepted these stories. The only thing we could do at
this moment is only believed the things that history narrate us every day.
In addition, the city of Compiegne was under attack and when she fought for helping
them, was trapped and then sold to the English who wanted to prove that she was a religious
heretic. But when the days pass by and knowing she didn´t had no reason for death except that
she had been dressed as a man, they burned her alive at the stake. Before she died, she asked
for a cross in that way forgiving her accusers and asking them to pray for her. And that is the
story about Joan of Arc, a girl of only 19 years old, fought for her people and following the
order of God.
