Comparing Sleeping Beauty, Aurora And The Tempest
Obstacles are often the roots authors use in order to have a growing story. Many hardship authors
publish in their scripts that may be similar to another movie, but never the exact same. In the 1959
film of Sleeping Beauty, Maleficent is an evil fairy who casts a spell on the towns new princess,
Aurora, that kills her on her 16th birthday. The only way the curse can be broken is if Auroras true
love, Prince Phillip kisses her. In the 2014 film of Maleficent, Maleficent was betrayed by her one
true love, Aurora's father, when he cut off her wings, yet her heart remained pure throughout the
entire movie as she saves Aurora from eternal sleep. In Sleeping Beauty Prince Phillip is Auroras
hero because he breaks the curse, whereas in Maleficent, she believes that there is no such thing as
love at first sight as the kiss from the Prince fails to save Aurora. She also manages to take care, and
become fond of Aurora even after she was the one who casted the spell on Aurora. Although there
was no background story as to why Maleficent cast the spell on Aurora, we're still able to capture
when Aurora was cursed. At the beginning of Sleeping Beauty when princess Aurora was born, the
king and queen declared a holiday where everyone in their village comes into the kingdom and
welcomes their new princess. A man who is known as King Hubert and his son, Prince Phillip, walk
up to the king and queen and betroth their two children. Three fairies come in and each of them
gives Aurora a gift. The first gift was the gift of beauty. The second was the gift of song. And right
before the third fairy can give Aurora her gift, in coming Maleficent. When she realizes she was the
only person, uninvited she became furious, and cast a curse upon Aurora. She was bound to prick
her finger on a spinning wheel at the age of 16, and die. Maleficent vanishes and this is when the
third fairy grands Aurora her last gift, eternal sleep. And it can only be broken if she is awoken by a
true loves kiss. However, in the movie Maleficent, she sends her crow to spy on the kingdom, and
that is when she is informed that she was the only one in the town who was not invited to the
welcoming of Aurora. She then rushes in and casts the curse, but instead of

Kingdom Keepers Essay
In Kingdom Keepers: Disney at Dawn by Ridley Pearson, Kingdom Keeper Finn searches for Jez in
the Animal Kingdom. First of all, the Kingdom Keepers are five kids who were chosen to be DHIs
(Disney Host Interactives). Secretly, the Disney Imagineers programmed the DHIs so that the
human would become their DHI when they fall asleep and wake up in the Magic Kingdom to defeat
the evil group of brigands called Overtakers. The Overtakers are Disney villains that try to usurp the
park. The Kingdom Keepers incapacitated Maleficent, the sub–leader of the Overtakers, and locked
her up.
The five Kingdom Keepers, Finn, Willa, Charlene, Philby, and Maybeck, are on a float in a parade

Amanda tells him that Jez is able to see the future in her dreams and draws them in a diary. She
gives Finn the diary in hopes that they can use it to find Jez and they set off to meet the others at the
Animal Kingdom. They get fake IDs and cast member uniforms so they can have access to the entire
park. Then, they use the clues from Jez's dreams drawn in the diary to find her, and one they find in
the park leads them to believe that Jez escaped. Eventually, after using many clues, Amanda and
Finn are led under the bridge in the tiger yards. Meanwhile, Maybeck and Willa find the second DHI
server and shut it down for good. Then, Finn and Amanda go to the tiger yards and find the tunnel
they believe Jez is hiding in. Finn gets into the tunnel and discovers Jez. However, they become
locked in. Finn texts Philby and asks him to hack into the park and open the hatches to the tunnel,
and Philby finds out that the Overtakers have captured Wayne. The two emerge to find apes and
monkeys waiting for them. Through a series of distractions and help from Charlene, on stilts in a

Sun, Moon and Talia: The Story of Sleeping Beauty
A princess doomed to sleep forever until true loves first kiss... that is how the story goes right? That
assumption would be wrong. The classic story of Sleeping Beauty has been around for hundreds of
years. The general idea of the story has remained unchanged but the "how" of the story has evolved
over the last 300 years. From the original works of Giamattista Basile, The Brothers Grimm to Walt
Disney, authors have slowly changed the tale for the public, allowing them to fall in love more
easily with the cursed princess.
In 1634 Giamattista Basile wrote the story of Sun, Moon and Talia, better known today as Sleeping
Beauty. A princess not cursed but prophesized to die once flax pierced ... Show more content on

With promises to return soon he departs, returning to his kingdom and his wife.
This part of the story can be taken many ways, first, who would ever welcome their attacker back
with open arms? It was a different time, perhaps a case of Stockholm syndrome. The king admits to
his sins and is forgiven much like how confession works in the Catholic Church. Now without the
burden of a terrible secret between them, they are free to love each other and their children. It also
shows that love conquers all, as told in both the original work and the most current telling.
Upon returning to his kingdom, we are introduced to the queen for the first time. She sees a change
in her husband and grows suspicious. Eventually she finds one of the king's servants who is easy to
scare with threats of treason and is willing to talk. She learns about Talia and the children and grows
infuriated, demanding the traitor go retrieve the children under the guise of "the king misses them
and wants them by his side." Once Talia hears this she unquestioning gives the servant Sun and
Moon so they can go see their father. Arriving at the palace the children are whisked into the kitchen
where the queen instructs the cook to butcher them and cook them for the king's dishes that evening.
The cook decides he cannot kill such beautiful children and hides them with his wife, butchering
lambs instead. Smug

Maleficent, A Stretch Too Far
Ecofeminism and Queer Alliance in Maleficent, a Stretch Too Far The Walt Disney Corporation,
over the past century, has become a phenomenon of its own, globally impacting the lives of families.
A popular trend within Disney, recently, has been to reinvent their one–time classic films, Sleeping
Beauty for instance. With the release of Maleficent, Disney sought to change the perception of the
film and retell the story with a new spin. As can be expected, a change this large caused mixed
reviews in the film's. However, one group was particularly appreciative of the new rendition–
feminists. Maleficent's story is retold in a manner supporting a strong female lead, rather than a
sleeping Aurora who was absent through the majority of the original film. Through the retelling,
Disney is able to set the stage of female empowerment. In the article, "Imagining Ecofeminist
Communities via Queer Alliances in Disney's Maleficent," Joe Hatfield and Jake Dionne make a
case for Maleficent as a queer (non–normative) person who encapsulates the duality of natural
versus unnatural. However, a vital part of this argument relies heavily on the "queerness" of
Maleficent. The argument presented by Hatfield and Dionne is valid in making a point of the
existence of ecofeminism throughout the film, but fails to make a strong case for the queer
relationships presented; Disney retells the tale of a once scorned villain in a positive perspective
through a land of magic and enchantment, not from

gift and is having disturbing side effects of doing so. Some of these side effects include
hallucinations that seem real. For example one time she was hallucinating that the strap that was
holding her into a spaceship was crushing her and that she could not breath because of it. She could
not shake the feeling and literally was not breathing. In this book Winter must try to fight these
hallucinations while also fighting her stepmother.

Magnificent Turning Point
When Maleficent suffers her first heartbreak she loses her wings; symbolising her loss of purity and
almost changing her from angel to devil. As the betrayed Maleficent walks through the Moors the
colour saturation decreases and everything is dull and foggy; giving the audience connotations of
sadness and gloom. Maleficent seeks refuge in the ruins of a castle, where a black crow comes but
Maleficent blows it away, showing a dramatic change in her actions towards nature; she is no longer
the caring girl she was before. The major turning point for Maleficent is when she finds out the man
she loved had cut off her wings out of his greed for power. This turning point is important for the
film as a whole as it clarifies the vast difference between her two sides in the ... Show more content

To emphasise this there is a fast paced, low violin playing which gives the audience a sense of
intensity. As Maleficent walks back through the Moors, darkness comes over; the plants wilt and the
animals look alarmed at the women whom they once adored. While this happens a drum beat plays
in a low, slow beat along with a trumpet, oboe and double bass; all of this gives a sense of
anticipation to viewers. Maleficent takes her throne in a cluster of branches strongly resembling a
rib cage, she sits in the place of the heart looking malevolent, living up to the origin of her name,
thus representing the evil in her heart. The shot the director has chosen to use is a mid shot, showing
Maleficent's sharp features and superior posture . Lightning strikes in this scene, the director's use of
pathetic fallacy to portray her anger. Maleficent goes to the christening of Aurora; as she enters the
hall her shadow is cast upon the stone wall, strongly representing the devil, her horns in particular;
the statues moulded onto this wall appear to be bowing down to her, maybe even kneeling for

Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs
Snow White is the fair maiden who was the fairest of them all. In "Snow White and the Seven
Dwarfs" Snow White would be the fair maiden who is innocent and naive. "This time she poisoned
an apple which she took to the cottage. Snow White–persistently and tiresomely naïve!–took a bite
of the apple and fell to the floor dead."(Buchholtz). Snow White's naivete self always fall for the

being rescued by the evil villain.
Fairy tales not only have the fair maiden or the child archetype it has the evil stepmother or the
wicked witch. (Melendez) The wicked witch is a "A cruelly malicious person who is involved in or
devoted to wickedness or crime; scoundrel; or a character in a play, novel, or the like, who
constitutes an important evil agency in the plot."(Jung, Joesph, and Frye) The evil step mother is a
"female character (almost as ubiquitous as the Wicked Witch) traditionally is a replacement for a

child. Invariably, this character will attempt to get rid of the children of her husband in order to
either gain riches for herself or to have more attention and or wealth for her own children."
(Melendez) Both archetypes are different, but similar because they both are devoted to wickedness

tale "Sleeping Beauty" are retold from the perspective of the antagonist, the evil witch. In this

grants her safety from the curse. Yet, little do neither the fairies nor her father know, Maleficent
locates and begins to care for the girl, picking up the slack of the irresponsible fairy godmothers. As
Aurora ages, Maleficent unwillfully develops an emotional attachment to Aurora and wishes to
remove her curse, but is unable to and feels deep regret – a much different view of the Maleficent
than the prior adaptation. Aurora eventually succumbs to the curse on her sixteenth birthday. She
realizes what has been going on for all the years that the fairies kept her, in a sense, hostage and
flees back to her kingdom. Unconsciously driven by the power of the curse, she wanders into a dark
room, pricks her finger, and falls into a sleep that she can only be awaken from once charmed by the
kiss of true love. The conclusion to the film also gives a very different view of Maleficent than
previous versions of the Sleeping Beauty story; as in the original, a charming prince enters the story

Comparing Sleeping Beauty 'And Maleficent'
There are always two sides of a story. This is evident when the fairy tale Sleeping Beauty is
compared to the modern counterpart Maleficent. The movie, Maleficent, was more engaging and
provided the whole story where Sleeping Beauty did not. Examples that prove how the newer fairy
tale is more engaging are the way why Maleficent curses the child, how she turned or seemed evil,
and how Aurora was taken from the kingdom and lived in the woods with three fairies until her
sixteenth birthday. There are many ways that show one movie is different or similar from the other.
To begin, the first way the two movies are contrasted is the reason why Maleficent curses the baby.
In the original story, it does not show why Maleficent curses the infant. ... Show more content on

In the movie, the watcher is shown Maleficent and Stefan in their younger years. One day, Stefan
betrays Maleficent by cutting off her wings and is crowned king due to it. Maleficent then curses the
child years later as a way to show how much hatred and revenge built up inside her. This evidence
proves that Maleficent is more engaging because it shows what happened before the event and why
she did it. In addition, there is another difference among the fairy tales. In Sleeping Beauty,
Maleficent seemed to always be evil and had no good in her heart. From the start of the movie to the
end, there was no scene of the witch ever being nice. She cursed an innocent baby, kidnapped the
prince, and fought him. Meanwhile, in Maleficent, the title character changes from good in the
beginning, evil in the middle of the story, and back to good at the end. In the start, Maleficent was a
young fairy who was very joyful and curious. But, she was then betrayed by her closest friend,
Stefan. This caused her to turn evil as she started to seek revenge and decided to take it out on
Stefan's child, Aurora. When her curse finally hit Aurora, she realized what

The Princess By A Prince With True Loves Kiss, And The...
Every Disney movie tends to have flaws when depicting "happily ever after" and "true loves kiss" it
depends on the male in the story to make the princess sincerely happy. In many cases, she gives up
everything for this perfect ending she has no say in. This has come to include the loss of her family
or her autonomy. The princesses are rarely educated enough to save themselves thus making them
reliant on the male character. The films stress the importance of beauty to having meaning to the
future male that is the only one able to give any princess her happy ending. Without this beauty they
suggest that a different ending would take place. Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, and The Little
Mermaid all rely on a prince to give them a "true loves kiss" and a "happily ever after".
In all three movies the princesses are rescued by a prince with true loves kiss, but the love in all
three cases is based only on outward appearances on both ends. This very shallow criteria for the
prince and princess involves absolutely no real conversation on any subject of significance. In The
Little Mermaid, Ariel does not talk at all to her live interest Eric and he was about to marry someone
else just based on the other woman's voice and nothing else. This shows just how little thought is put
into such a big life decision by someone in power. In Sleeping Beauty, Aurora and Philip share only
a song and short dance before they each decide they are in love with one another. From only this
experience Philip

The Role Of Maleficent In Disney Movies
In despite of being portrayed as one of the thirteen children that were in the kingdom of King
Stephen and the Queen, Maleficent demonstrates through her intentions of how bad of a person she
was throughout parts of the Sleeping Beauty book written by the Grimm brothers and the Disney
film Sleeping Beauty directed by Clyde Geronimi. In the scene where everyone from the kingdom
gathers when they find out the King and Queen are going to have a daughter, Maleficent appears out
of nowhere in an angry voice asking why she was not invited to that event. In both the book and the
film, Maleficent makes a statement on how on the daughter's sixteenth birthday, she would prick her
finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and fall dead. Maleficent ... Show more content on

This is not love, with attachments or good materials. Although some articles do say the same thing,
others state a disagreement. They state that all Maleficent wanted was to use her powers to help
others, but after analyzing the film and the story, one can see that there is no good in Maleficent's
character. Many people that have not seen the film or read the story would agree that her intentions
were good by just reading the articles in the internet. She continuously reminds the readers that she
wanted to get princess Aurora out of her way by killing her in the spindle of a moving wheel on the
day of her sixteenth birthday. She is an example of what is the complete wrong thing to do to be able
to solve problems in modern society. For example, when the three fairies try talking nicely to he, she
responds back in a horrifying way. When King Philip escapes, she demonstrated the anger she truly
felt because she knew now there would be a chance for him to reach over the princess. She knew
that when he would go over for her, he would do anything to try and awaken her back to life. So
when he did finally reach the castle where princess Aurora was held, he could not withstand the fact
that she looked so beautiful and stole a kiss from her. Suddenly, she woke up and they both looked

Once upon a time, in the twenty–first century, lived a lovely upper–class girl with skin as white as

very vain. The wicked stepmother wanted to be the most beautiful lady in the kingdom and she
would often ask Siri, "Siri! Siri in the phone! Who is the fairest of them all?" Siri would reply, "You

Evidence Of The Movie 'Maleficent'
In the movie Maleficent, Maleficent is a bad person the cause of that is the evidence shown in the

bad then she wouldn't have killed all of those people. Another piece of evidence is that she could
have not ever cursed that baby then she could have peace in the land and it could have ended. In the
conclusion it is why she is a villain. The First reason is the murdering all of those people. There is a
reason it is called murdering it means killing people against the law. From the movie there was an
army and she killed them all and their king. That would mean she is evil and she killed tons of
people when she could have done it peacefully adding

2014. Movie poster is very important as it is considered as an advertisement for a particular movie.
With containing the powerful visual elements of the movie such as the famous actors, movie title
and attractive image, it can easily grab the audience's attention. Some of the movie posters may
include the main actor's name as well. These visuals are vital to convey impactful messages to the
audience and persuade them to watch. Maleficent is an example of using actress's name to attract
audience. The main actress name, Angelina Jolie is written in an elegant and simple black capital

According to Carolyn Bloomer, mental activities can affect visual perception such as memory,
projection, expectation, selectivity, habituation, salience, dissonance, culture and words (Lester,
2006). From looking at the poster, the viewers probably will remember original version of
Maleficent which is called Sleeping Beauty, produced by Disney as well in year 1959. In the
Sleeping Beauty, Maleficent is truly evil and she curses Aurora, the princess. However, in
Maleficent, it is more about background and history of her and why she is being evil. Besides, the
viewers may have expectation on the character of Maleficent. With the costume and characteristic of
Maleficent, they may expect she must be a very evil and wicked character in the movie. This is
because the Maleficent is one of the most popular and recognizable villains among Disney princess
series animation movies. With the green glow under her hands, it also lets viewers expect that she is
a villain because for the viewers who watch Disney series movies before, lime green colour is a
harbinger of evil (Anon., 2015). For example, the evil queen in the Snow White and Seven Dwarfs

Feminist Criticism Of Disney
Disney is known for playing a large part in the development of children. Children idolize the
company and its characters. And while the children are more than likely unaware of it, Disney helps
to construct a sense of morality, creativity, and imagination. Although these are certainly positive
attributes that build a strong foundation for a child to flourish, there are critics out there who argue
that there are controversial issues buried deep within the films. One of the largest conflicts critics
come across is the portrayal of Disney's villains. From the time Snow White came out in 1937 up
until the release of Frozen in 2013, there had been severe concerns with the representation of
women within the films and even some of the men. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Finally, I will address the conflicting view that anti feminism is apparent within Disney's villains.
Particular Disney villains remain shallow and sexist and it is irrefutable.
In discussions of Disney, a highly controversial issue is the portrayal of the villains within the
animated princess films. Specifically, the idea of 'what–is–good–is–beautiful' has been shown to
influence young girls and boys in various studies and it is problematic (Silvestri). With society
evolving and becoming more open to discussing controversial issues, people are more susceptible to
creating their own judgments and critiques. Not only have the movies with female disney villains
been useful in research, but those starring male villains have contributed to the argument as well.
Numerous critics have researched and revealed information about Disney and their villains, both
male and female, that reveals different______
The portrayal of Disney villains reveals stereotypes rooted in society that are caused by lookism
which may persuade children to partake in this type of discrimination. For example, each Disney
villain was created to be unattractive according to society's standards, dictating those who look like
them as immoral people. Today's beauty standards for women consists of things like being young,
thin, having long and flowing hair, and even wearing certain makeup. In

Analysis Of The Movie ' Star Wars Script '
Paper #4
What concept has fueled numerous wars and conflicts throughout history, and even in present day?
It is the oversimplification of the perception of good and bad which has sparked these battles, as
well as worked to handicap young people's ability to come to a true understanding of world events.
Gardner writes about this concept when he says, "most five–year–olds have developed a Star Wars
script. Life consists of a struggle between Good and Bad forces, with the Good generally
triumphant" (627). Through their entertainment children construct an internalized "script" which can
mislead them to think the concept of good and bad is much less complex than in reality. I believe
that this is still true, and that the "Star Wars script" is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Toward the end of the fable, Harry learns that Voldemort is trying to steal the Sorcerer's Stone which
can be used grant immortality. Harry determines that he must find the stone first. This leads to a
final struggle between Harry Potter and Voldemort, while he inhabits the body of one of the
professors at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry Potter, representing the "good
side", ends up winning the battle, saving the professor, and stopping Voldemort from his evil plans.
The storyline used is a perfect example of the "Star Wars script" that Gardner was referring to. Harry
Potter represents the good side in this plot, while Voldemort represents the bad. Children who grow
up observing the aforementioned plot can then construct a misguided perception of what defines
"good" and "evil". Children internalize these types of "scripts" and use them to interpret major
historical or present day events. Gardner explains that "Most historical events or works of literature,
however, prove far more complex; to understand the causes of World War I or the U.S. Civil War, or
to grasp the thrust of a novel by Hawthorne or Austen, one must weigh and integrate multiple factors
and nuances" (627). By using the "Star Wars script" children fail to grasp the complexities of the
events that have, or are, taking place. It can lead to them using an erroneous way of thinking by
believing that historical wars are this grand battle of good and bad. The

Do you ever wonder if your favorite movie follows the hero's journey? You might ask yourself what

does not mean that all movies follow them, but most do. For example, one movie that follows the

Stefan cuts her wings, then later on she meets Diaval, and a few years later she gets to know Aurora

Sleeping Beauty Research Paper
Maleficent and Sleeping Beauty have many similarities and differences. There were many
differences in the characters, as well as other things such as the theme, tone, and mood that were
different. Maleficent was perceived as evil in the original Sleeping Beauty, but in Maleficent there
was a different take on the character, so she does not seem so evil, but instead has a troubled and
difficult past. Both Sleeping Beauty and Maleficent involve magic with Maleficent. In Sleeping
Beauty Maleficent's magic powers were indicated as a deep dark green, which symbolizes her evil,
but in Maleficent her magic was not always that green. In Maleficent every time she used her
powers for good, she had a yellow tint to her it. When she lost her wings ... Show more content on

For example throughout the whole Sleeping Beauty movie, Maleficent is portrayed as an evil
character, and really had no motive, besides being jealous and evil for cursing Princess Aurora. In
Maleficent however you get a thorough and deep backstory. In Maleficent, Maleficent was
portrayed as the protector of the Moor, and was a good fairy. Then came young Stefan who tricked
Maleficent into being in "true love," and then deceived her and stole her wings for greed, just to
become king. When this happened Maleficent became distraught and became the evil fairy
presented in Sleeping Beauty. The ends of the movie were also very different from each other. In
Sleeping Beauty, Maleficent captured Prince Phillip so the would not kiss Aurora and wake her up
from her sleep. She did everything in her power to keep Philip from granting true love's kiss on
Aurora, and even turned into a dragon to stop him. The prince ended up killing Maleficent in
Sleeping Beauty. In MAleficent however, Maleficent actually woke Aurora up, because she truly
loved her. This shows that the tone and mood the director uses can change the whole story. The
symbols the directors use can also portray different things in the movies. For example the color of
Maleficent's powers showed that when she was evil how power color was green to demonstrate that.
In Maleficent however there was a

Maleficent Theme
In the movie Maleficent, the audience comes to their own opinions about the main character
Maleficent in the film. This film also features characters like Aurora, Stefan, and Diaval which
allows the audience to see her different sides and views of good and evil through other characters
perceptions of Maleficent. This is seen throughout the film and can be seen with her relationship
between King Stefan and his daughter Aurora along with her servant Diaval. There is no easy way to
define the line between good & evil. This is an overarching theme throughout the movie Maleficent
because there are different opinions on these 3 characters and the other background characters in the
film. In the first scene of the movie, we see Maleficent as a good child who is seen as the strongest
of the fairies in this film. When we see her and how the other characters from the Moors the
mythical area in which Maleficent lives, see her as a good, nice, playful, and very fair person who
looks over the Moors and those who live in it. Stefan, in the beginning, allows ourselves as the
audience to see an, even more, a clearer picture of Maleficent and how good and magnificent she is
however from what he does later in the movie to Maleficent changes how we see her and perceive is
good or evil of her. It is seen throughout this film Maleficent isn't purely evil nor purely good.
Sending the message that people are made to be both good and evil. Trying to define good and evil

Who Is The Protagonist In Little Briar Rose
"Well, well." Have you ever heard this line before? I'm sure you already have heard it even once.
But let me be a spoiler of the movie entitled "Maleficent" starring Angelina Jolie. This film from
Disney is acquired from Brother Grimm's "Little Briar Rose" wherein Aurora, the protagonist of the
story, was cursed by a fairy when she was a baby. The curse was on her sixteenth birthday, she will
be asleep for a hundred years because of the spindle, and only a boy will make her wake her up
again. But in the film, the evil fairy is the protagonist in the story. Her name is Maleficent. The tale
begins with a flashback to Maleficent as a young girl fairy, befriending a farm boy, Stefan, who's

Stefan promised the king that he will revenge for the king's defeat. He removed the wings of

the king. He got a wife and a beautiful daughter. The protagonist in the story turned from a kind–

Briar Rose".
Let me hang the story. By this time, I will not let you know the whole plot of the story from me.

The Dichotomy Of Good Vs Evil
Mythologies create constructs by which a population 's morals and ethics are formed, they also
establish standards of women's behavior and appearance. Margaret Atwood takes these Fairy tales
and through the use of metafiction critiques these constructs. She writes the stories from the
women's point of view to allow for an expansion of a character that falls outside of the normal one–
dimensional depictions. Siren Song, Happy Endings, Spelling and Lusus Naturae highlight the way
in which a female personality is split in mythology to demonize women, whose personality traits are
not congruent with societal norms. The dichotomy of good vs evil, that is prevalent among female
characters in mythologies, Atwood combats using metafiction as a ... Show more content on

Disney emphasizes the role of beauty in good girls and the counter, ugliness in the evil women. In
The Little Mermaid Ursula drastically alters her appearance so that she would appear thinner and
younger in order for Prince Eric to love her. Also in Snow White, the Evil Queen disguises herself as
an old woman who compared to Snow White is hideous. Women with power are regarded as evil
characters in the fairy tales, while the good girl remains powerless throughout the story. Magical
powers are given to the villains, Maleficent, the Evil Queen, Ursula, ect. The Evil Queen runs her
own kingdom; Maleficent is seen in her own large castle, so that only are old and ugly women seen
as evil, but so are women in positions of power. There are example of women who hold power and
use it for good, instead of evil; however, they are often times asexual fairies. Thus, forcing on the
viewer the "concept that a correlation exists between empowered female sexuality and evil".
Atwood does not try to remove women from the roles they have been given in the original myths
and fairy tales, instead she expands upon them, allowing the reader to explore and question the
power and motivation of these women. Atwood by rewriting these myths and tales deconstructs the
power structure that oppress women and coerces them into a polarized view of themselves. Atwood
abstracts aspects of the original tales and inserts

Archetype In Sleeping Beauty
Imagine being just 6 years years old and having your mom tell you there is a woman who has cursed
you to death, hates you, and won't die till you do. Aurora had to live with all that and she had to live
in hiding with 2 whackjob fairies taking care of her. That was all because her parents didn't invite
someone to her birth celebration. In the film Sleeping Beauty a beautiful, elegant, and kind young
maiden is born. Maleficent who the lunatic of the story does not get invited to the celebration of
Aurora's birth. This makes her so angry that she places a curse upon Aurora. After the curse
Maleficent made it her life goal to make Aurora's life miserable and short. In the film, Sleeping
Beauty, the director Clyde Germoni uses the archetype of the sadist to show that we as humans are
full of jealousy and hate toward people that are better than us because humans are insecure about
themselves.
In the beginning of the film Sleeping Beauty Maleficent has an overbearing amount of Jealousy
toward Aurora and how everyone loves her. Maleficent's end goal was to make sure Aurora
somehow ended up dead. If she couldn't die then Maleficent wanted to make her life and everyone
who ever loved her miserable. Those actions therefore connect to my archetype,"The Sadist,"
because Maleficent shows how she just wants to create pain and sadness. She doesn't care how far
she needs to go to do that as long as Aurora is breathing. That need for Aurora to be gone also
contributes to how loony and

is the villain by Grimm Brothers, Sleeping Beauty (1917). It has had two movie adaptation, Sleeping

In the Grimm Brothers version Maleficent returned to the kingdom after leaving for fifty years

feel safe. They felt like no one was going to hurt them. In the beginning of the film she is just a
young girl and meets a guy named stefan and ends up falling in love with him. Stefan and
Maleficent grew up together. In the film, Maleficent is both a hero and a villain. The only reason she
ends up becoming a villain is because Stefan used her to become king. He stole her wings and cut
them off her. She then changed her style and brought chaos to many places. In the film when she
figures out that Stefan became king she then turned to a horrible person. When Maleficent finds out
that he had a child she shows up to the gathering they have and puts

The Influence Of Malefice In Disney
In Disney's 2014 production of Maleficent, a fairy seeks revenge after the man who took a part of
her power from her. When Maleficent found out the king and his wife had a child she curses the
princess to prick her finger on a spinning wheel and to fall into a sleep like death. Though
Maleficent the fairy cursed the child she made up for her actions by doing good in the world. So is
Maleficent a great hero or a terrible villain? Even though Maleficent was the one who put the curse
on Aurora, as she spent time with her she learned to love her more. When Maleficent finally took on
the fact she loved Aurora she tried to break the spell. In the movie it says,"This curse will last till the
end of time! No power on Earth can change it".

Comparing Sleeping Beauty, Aurora And The Tempest

  • 1. Comparing Sleeping Beauty, Aurora And The Tempest Obstacles are often the roots authors use in order to have a growing story. Many hardship authors publish in their scripts that may be similar to another movie, but never the exact same. In the 1959 film of Sleeping Beauty, Maleficent is an evil fairy who casts a spell on the towns new princess, Aurora, that kills her on her 16th birthday. The only way the curse can be broken is if Auroras true love, Prince Phillip kisses her. In the 2014 film of Maleficent, Maleficent was betrayed by her one true love, Aurora's father, when he cut off her wings, yet her heart remained pure throughout the entire movie as she saves Aurora from eternal sleep. In Sleeping Beauty Prince Phillip is Auroras hero because he breaks the curse, whereas in Maleficent, she believes that there is no such thing as love at first sight as the kiss from the Prince fails to save Aurora. She also manages to take care, and become fond of Aurora even after she was the one who casted the spell on Aurora. Although there was no background story as to why Maleficent cast the spell on Aurora, we're still able to capture when Aurora was cursed. At the beginning of Sleeping Beauty when princess Aurora was born, the king and queen declared a holiday where everyone in their village comes into the kingdom and welcomes their new princess. A man who is known as King Hubert and his son, Prince Phillip, walk up to the king and queen and betroth their two children. Three fairies come in and each of them gives Aurora a gift. The first gift was the gift of beauty. The second was the gift of song. And right before the third fairy can give Aurora her gift, in coming Maleficent. When she realizes she was the only person, uninvited she became furious, and cast a curse upon Aurora. She was bound to prick her finger on a spinning wheel at the age of 16, and die. Maleficent vanishes and this is when the third fairy grands Aurora her last gift, eternal sleep. And it can only be broken if she is awoken by a true loves kiss. However, in the movie Maleficent, she sends her crow to spy on the kingdom, and that is when she is informed that she was the only one in the town who was not invited to the welcoming of Aurora. She then rushes in and casts the curse, but instead of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Kingdom Keepers Essay In Kingdom Keepers: Disney at Dawn by Ridley Pearson, Kingdom Keeper Finn searches for Jez in the Animal Kingdom. First of all, the Kingdom Keepers are five kids who were chosen to be DHIs (Disney Host Interactives). Secretly, the Disney Imagineers programmed the DHIs so that the human would become their DHI when they fall asleep and wake up in the Magic Kingdom to defeat the evil group of brigands called Overtakers. The Overtakers are Disney villains that try to usurp the park. The Kingdom Keepers incapacitated Maleficent, the sub–leader of the Overtakers, and locked her up. The five Kingdom Keepers, Finn, Willa, Charlene, Philby, and Maybeck, are on a float in a parade for the celebration of the return of the DHIs in the Magic Kingdom when ... She gives Finn the diary in hopes that they can use it to find Jez and they set off to meet the others at the Animal Kingdom. They get fake IDs and cast member uniforms so they can have access to the entire park. Then, they use the clues from Jez's dreams drawn in the diary to find her, and one they find in the park leads them to believe that Jez escaped. Eventually, after using many clues, Amanda and Finn are led under the bridge in the tiger yards. Meanwhile, Maybeck and Willa find the second DHI server and shut it down for good. Then, Finn and Amanda go to the tiger yards and find the tunnel they believe Jez is hiding in. Finn gets into the tunnel and discovers Jez. However, they become locked in. Finn texts Philby and asks him to hack into the park and open the hatches to the tunnel, and Philby finds out that the Overtakers have captured Wayne. The two emerge to find apes and monkeys waiting for them. Through a series of distractions and help from Charlene, on stilts in a DeVine costume, everyone gets out of the ... • 5. Sun Moon and Talia Sun, Moon and Talia: The Story of Sleeping Beauty A princess doomed to sleep forever until true loves first kiss... that is how the story goes right? That assumption would be wrong. The classic story of Sleeping Beauty has been around for hundreds of years. The general idea of the story has remained unchanged but the "how" of the story has evolved over the last 300 years. From the original works of Giamattista Basile, The Brothers Grimm to Walt Disney, authors have slowly changed the tale for the public, allowing them to fall in love more easily with the cursed princess. In 1634 Giamattista Basile wrote the story of Sun, Moon and Talia, better known today as Sleeping Beauty. A princess not cursed but prophesized to die once flax pierced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With promises to return soon he departs, returning to his kingdom and his wife. This part of the story can be taken many ways, first, who would ever welcome their attacker back with open arms? It was a different time, perhaps a case of Stockholm syndrome. The king admits to his sins and is forgiven much like how confession works in the Catholic Church. Now without the burden of a terrible secret between them, they are free to love each other and their children. It also shows that love conquers all, as told in both the original work and the most current telling. Upon returning to his kingdom, we are introduced to the queen for the first time. She sees a change in her husband and grows suspicious. Eventually she finds one of the king's servants who is easy to scare with threats of treason and is willing to talk. She learns about Talia and the children and grows infuriated, demanding the traitor go retrieve the children under the guise of "the king misses them and wants them by his side." Once Talia hears this she unquestioning gives the servant Sun and Moon so they can go see their father. Arriving at the palace the children are whisked into the kitchen where the queen instructs the cook to butcher them and cook them for the king's dishes that evening. The cook decides he cannot kill such beautiful children and hides them with his wife, butchering lambs instead. Smug ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Maleficent, A Stretch Too Far Ecofeminism and Queer Alliance in Maleficent, a Stretch Too Far The Walt Disney Corporation, over the past century, has become a phenomenon of its own, globally impacting the lives of families. A popular trend within Disney, recently, has been to reinvent their one–time classic films, Sleeping Beauty for instance. With the release of Maleficent, Disney sought to change the perception of the film and retell the story with a new spin. As can be expected, a change this large caused mixed reviews in the film's. However, one group was particularly appreciative of the new rendition– feminists. Maleficent's story is retold in a manner supporting a strong female lead, rather than a sleeping Aurora who was absent through the majority of the original film. Through the retelling, Disney is able to set the stage of female empowerment. In the article, "Imagining Ecofeminist Communities via Queer Alliances in Disney's Maleficent," Joe Hatfield and Jake Dionne make a case for Maleficent as a queer (non–normative) person who encapsulates the duality of natural versus unnatural. However, a vital part of this argument relies heavily on the "queerness" of Maleficent. The argument presented by Hatfield and Dionne is valid in making a point of the existence of ecofeminism throughout the film, but fails to make a strong case for the queer relationships presented; Disney retells the tale of a once scorned villain in a positive perspective through a land of magic and enchantment, not from ... • 11. Magnificent Turning Point When Maleficent suffers her first heartbreak she loses her wings; symbolising her loss of purity and almost changing her from angel to devil. As the betrayed Maleficent walks through the Moors the colour saturation decreases and everything is dull and foggy; giving the audience connotations of sadness and gloom. Maleficent seeks refuge in the ruins of a castle, where a black crow comes but Maleficent blows it away, showing a dramatic change in her actions towards nature; she is no longer the caring girl she was before. The major turning point for Maleficent is when she finds out the man she loved had cut off her wings out of his greed for power. This turning point is important for the film as a whole as it clarifies the vast difference between her two sides in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To emphasise this there is a fast paced, low violin playing which gives the audience a sense of intensity. As Maleficent walks back through the Moors, darkness comes over; the plants wilt and the animals look alarmed at the women whom they once adored. While this happens a drum beat plays in a low, slow beat along with a trumpet, oboe and double bass; all of this gives a sense of anticipation to viewers. Maleficent takes her throne in a cluster of branches strongly resembling a rib cage, she sits in the place of the heart looking malevolent, living up to the origin of her name, thus representing the evil in her heart. The shot the director has chosen to use is a mid shot, showing Maleficent's sharp features and superior posture . Lightning strikes in this scene, the director's use of pathetic fallacy to portray her anger. In "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" Snow White would be the fair maiden who is innocent and naive. "This time she poisoned an apple which she took to the cottage. Snow White, Cinderella, and Aurora are the fair maiden in the fairy tales it demonstrated the common archetype in three different fairy tales. The Fair maiden is always the one being rescued by the evil villain. Fairy tales not only have the fair maiden or the child archetype it has the evil stepmother or the wicked witch. (Melendez) The wicked witch is a "A cruelly malicious person who is involved in or devoted to wickedness or crime; scoundrel; or a character in a play, novel, or the like, who constitutes an important evil agency in the plot."(Jung, Joesph, and Frye) The evil step mother is a "female character (almost as ubiquitous as the Wicked Witch) traditionally is a replacement for a deceased, often revered mother, often with disastrous results for the usually female protagonist child. Invariably, this character will attempt to get rid of the children of her husband in order to either gain riches for herself or to have more attention and or wealth for her own children." (Melendez) Both archetypes are different, but similar because they both are devoted to wickedness to hurt the fair maiden. Magnificent Book And Movie Comparison The movie "Maleficent" is a recent production by Disney in which the aspects of the classic fairy tale "Sleeping Beauty" are retold from the perspective of the antagonist, the evil witch. In this review I will discuss several aspects of "Maleficent" including its plot, family friendliness, and overall success. The plot of "Maleficent" is in many ways similar to the original fairy tale, but contrasts sharply in perspective and chronology. The story is told through a narrator and can be seen in many ways similar to the original fairy tale but contrasts sharply in perspective and chronology. Yet, little do neither the fairies nor her father know, Maleficent locates and begins to care for the girl, picking up the slack of the irresponsible fairy godmothers. As Aurora ages, Maleficent unwillfully develops an emotional attachment to Aurora and wishes to remove her curse, but is unable to and feels deep regret – a much different view of the Maleficent than the prior adaptation. Aurora eventually succumbs to the curse on her sixteenth birthday. She realizes what has been going on for all the years that the fairies kept her, in a sense, hostage and flees back to her kingdom. Unconsciously driven by the power of the curse, she wanders into a dark room, pricks her finger, and falls into a sleep that she can only be awaken from once charmed by the kiss of true love. The conclusion to the film also gives a very different view of Maleficent than previous versions of the Sleeping Beauty story; as in the original, a charming prince enters the story to give Aurora "true love's kiss," but it fails to have an effect because there is no true love. • 17. Comparing Sleeping Beauty 'And Maleficent' There are always two sides of a story. This is evident when the fairy tale Sleeping Beauty is compared to the modern counterpart Maleficent. The movie, Maleficent, was more engaging and provided the whole story where Sleeping Beauty did not. Examples that prove how the newer fairy tale is more engaging are the way why Maleficent curses the child, how she turned or seemed evil, and how Aurora was taken from the kingdom and lived in the woods with three fairies until her sixteenth birthday. There are many ways that show one movie is different or similar from the other. To begin, the first way the two movies are contrasted is the reason why Maleficent curses the baby. In the original story, it does not show why Maleficent curses the infant. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the movie, the watcher is shown Maleficent and Stefan in their younger years. One day, Stefan betrays Maleficent by cutting off her wings and is crowned king due to it. Maleficent then curses the child years later as a way to show how much hatred and revenge built up inside her. This evidence proves that Maleficent is more engaging because it shows what happened before the event and why she did it. In addition, there is another difference among the fairy tales. In Sleeping Beauty, Maleficent seemed to always be evil and had no good in her heart. From the start of the movie to the end, there was no scene of the witch ever being nice. She cursed an innocent baby, kidnapped the prince, and fought him. Meanwhile, in Maleficent, the title character changes from good in the beginning, evil in the middle of the story, and back to good at the end. In the start, Maleficent was a young fairy who was very joyful and curious. But, she was then betrayed by her closest friend, Stefan. This caused her to turn evil as she started to seek revenge and decided to take it out on Stefan's child, Aurora. When her curse finally hit Aurora, she realized what ... • 21. The Princess By A Prince With True Loves Kiss, And The... Every Disney movie tends to have flaws when depicting "happily ever after" and "true loves kiss" it depends on the male in the story to make the princess sincerely happy. In many cases, she gives up everything for this perfect ending she has no say in. This has come to include the loss of her family or her autonomy. The princesses are rarely educated enough to save themselves thus making them reliant on the male character. The films stress the importance of beauty to having meaning to the future male that is the only one able to give any princess her happy ending. Without this beauty they suggest that a different ending would take place. Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, and The Little Mermaid all rely on a prince to give them a "true loves kiss" and a "happily ever after". In all three movies the princesses are rescued by a prince with true loves kiss, but the love in all three cases is based only on outward appearances on both ends. This very shallow criteria for the prince and princess involves absolutely no real conversation on any subject of significance. In The Little Mermaid, Ariel does not talk at all to her live interest Eric and he was about to marry someone else just based on the other woman's voice and nothing else. This shows just how little thought is put into such a big life decision by someone in power. In Sleeping Beauty, Aurora and Philip share only a song and short dance before they each decide they are in love with one another. From only this experience Philip ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Role Of Maleficent In Disney Movies In despite of being portrayed as one of the thirteen children that were in the kingdom of King Stephen and the Queen, Maleficent demonstrates through her intentions of how bad of a person she was throughout parts of the Sleeping Beauty book written by the Grimm brothers and the Disney film Sleeping Beauty directed by Clyde Geronimi. In the scene where everyone from the kingdom gathers when they find out the King and Queen are going to have a daughter, Maleficent appears out of nowhere in an angry voice asking why she was not invited to that event. Many people that have not seen the film or read the story would agree that her intentions were good by just reading the articles in the internet. She continuously reminds the readers that she wanted to get princess Aurora out of her way by killing her in the spindle of a moving wheel on the day of her sixteenth birthday. For example, when the three fairies try talking nicely to he, she responds back in a horrifying way. When King Philip escapes, she demonstrated the anger she truly felt because she knew now there would be a chance for him to reach over the princess. • 56. Who Is The Protagonist In Little Briar Rose "Well, well." Have you ever heard this line before? I'm sure you already have heard it even once. But let me be a spoiler of the movie entitled "Maleficent" starring Angelina Jolie. This film from Disney is acquired from Brother Grimm's "Little Briar Rose" wherein Aurora, the protagonist of the story, was cursed by a fairy when she was a baby. The curse was on her sixteenth birthday, she will be asleep for a hundred years because of the spindle, and only a boy will make her wake her up again. But in the film, the evil fairy is the protagonist in the story. Her name is Maleficent. The tale begins with a flashback to Maleficent as a young girl fairy, befriending a farm boy, Stefan, who's snuck into her forest on a mission of thievery. They grew ... Stefan promised the king that he will revenge for the king's defeat. He removed the wings of Maleficent at her back after he made her asleep, which made him to be in throne after the death of the king. He got a wife and a beautiful daughter. The protagonist in the story turned from a kind– hearted fairy into an evil one. She cursed the daughter of King Stefan just like in the story "Little Briar Rose". Let me hang the story. By this time, I will not let you know the whole plot of the story from me. That's why I recommend you to watch this film. This truly touched my heart for true love will not only be found to your loved one. Everything in the film talks about wound. The romantic wound, the wound of betrayal, and the wound from the past. But only forgiveness in oneself is the key, or it might also be that we shouldn't let the anger come before us. As the kiss of Maleficent to the sleeping Aurora, the sleeping beauty awoke from her short sleep. This is the twist of the story that Disney changed from the original story. • 58. The Dichotomy Of Good Vs Evil Mythologies create constructs by which a population 's morals and ethics are formed, they also establish standards of women's behavior and appearance. Margaret Atwood takes these Fairy tales and through the use of metafiction critiques these constructs. She writes the stories from the women's point of view to allow for an expansion of a character that falls outside of the normal one– dimensional depictions. Siren Song, Happy Endings, Spelling and Lusus Naturae highlight the way in which a female personality is split in mythology to demonize women, whose personality traits are not congruent with societal norms. The dichotomy of good vs evil, that is prevalent among female characters in mythologies, Atwood combats using metafiction as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Disney emphasizes the role of beauty in good girls and the counter, ugliness in the evil women. In The Little Mermaid Ursula drastically alters her appearance so that she would appear thinner and younger in order for Prince Eric to love her. Also in Snow White, the Evil Queen disguises herself as an old woman who compared to Snow White is hideous. Women with power are regarded as evil characters in the fairy tales, while the good girl remains powerless throughout the story. Magical powers are given to the villains, Maleficent, the Evil Queen, Ursula, ect. The Evil Queen runs her own kingdom; Maleficent is seen in her own large castle, so that only are old and ugly women seen as evil, but so are women in positions of power. There are example of women who hold power and use it for good, instead of evil; however, they are often times asexual fairies. Thus, forcing on the viewer the "concept that a correlation exists between empowered female sexuality and evil". Atwood does not try to remove women from the roles they have been given in the original myths and fairy tales, instead she expands upon them, allowing the reader to explore and question the power and motivation of these women. Atwood by rewriting these myths and tales deconstructs the power structure that oppress women and coerces them into a polarized view of themselves. Atwood abstracts aspects of the original tales and inserts ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 60. Archetype In Sleeping Beauty Imagine being just 6 years years old and having your mom tell you there is a woman who has cursed you to death, hates you, and won't die till you do. Aurora had to live with all that and she had to live in hiding with 2 whackjob fairies taking care of her. That was all because her parents didn't invite someone to her birth celebration. In the film Sleeping Beauty a beautiful, elegant, and kind young maiden is born. Maleficent who the lunatic of the story does not get invited to the celebration of Aurora's birth. This makes her so angry that she places a curse upon Aurora. After the curse Maleficent made it her life goal to make Aurora's life miserable and short. In the film, Sleeping Beauty, the director Clyde Germoni uses the archetype of the sadist to show that we as humans are full of jealousy and hate toward people that are better than us because humans are insecure about themselves. In the beginning of the film Sleeping Beauty Maleficent has an overbearing amount of Jealousy toward Aurora and how everyone loves her. Maleficent's end goal was to make sure Aurora somehow ended up dead. If she couldn't die then Maleficent wanted to make her life and everyone who ever loved her miserable. Those actions therefore connect to my archetype,"The Sadist," because Maleficent shows how she just wants to create pain and sadness. She doesn't care how far she needs to go to do that as long as Aurora is breathing. That need for Aurora to be gone also contributes to how loony and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Comparing Power In Maleficent And Alfonso Power Paper Stefan from the movie Maleficent and Alfonso from the novel The Color Purple have both portrayed negative effects on the people that surround them by the use of power. They differ in how Alfonso has always had a negative effect on others lives using force, whereas Stefan was virtuous in how he acted to gain trust with Maleficent. Stefan and Alfonso are similar in many ways, one of them being. They use and abuse the power, as well as trust they are given by the people in their lives. Maleficent is the villain by Grimm Brothers, Sleeping Beauty (1917). It has had two movie adaptation, Sleeping Beauty (1959) and Maleficent (2014). Maleficent is the best villain because of her back stories, her personality traits, and her looks. In the Grimm Brothers version Maleficent returned to the kingdom after leaving for fifty years uninvited to the feast. The seven other fairies were invited and had silver wear made out of solid gold. Maleficent was less than pleased when she didn't have any gold silver wear so she laid a curse on the child, Aurora that on her 17th birthday she will prick her finger on a spindle and die.In Disney's movie adaptation, ...
