Before racing shells, coxswains, and 5:00 am rowing practices, it was always sports that represented
a measure of success for me. From a young age I dreamed of joining the ranks of Division 1

or school's students, what expectations, assumptions, and "prejudgments" do you have? Where did

For my ASL hours I observed two different environments. The first environment was an Adapted
Sports Night here at the University of Texas. Prior to arriving to the event a couple of prejudgments
I had was that, majority of the athletes there would be from recreational sport teams in the area and
that the games would be pretty simple to understand. Essentially, I thought that they would show me
how to play different sports and how they are adapted to their wheelchairs or their particular
disability. I believe that these assumptions came from not realizing that adapted sports is more than
just playing basketball or rugby in a basic wheelchair.
Sammy's house was the second environment in which I completed ASL hours at. Sammy's house is
a childcare center that provides inclusion of children without disabilities and children with
disabilities and medically fragile children. Upon my first day at Sammy's House I did not have many
prejudgments other than I expected that children who attended Sammy's house would be composed

Hearing my mother's opinion on the matter with student athletes not being able to get paid through
video games that they were in was interesting. Her side was more on the financial factor as she
wasn't sure how well they would do when they had to save money and take out loans to buy houses.

Singapore is known internationally for its strong education system. It has been described as "world
leading". The nation's many successes are found in the competitive edge of its people and
governance but never in the area of sports. Since its independence in 1965, education and sports
have been instrumental in the nation building process. This approach is likely a deliberate attempt to
build a national culture and identity in a multi–cultural society. Sports and education provides a
unifying ground and equality of opportunities for citizens to strive for a better future as well as to
bond with a common interest. Sports as a social unification instrument have been ironically
criticized for the nation's inability to produce high–performing athletes. To expedite the nation's
sporting success, the Foreign Sports Talent (FST) scheme was introduced and frequently reviewed
(The Straits Time, 2003, "Committee of supply" 2011, Foo, 2013). The implication of this scheme
infiltrated into the school's sporting scene that was replicated in school's offering sport scholarships
to foreign students even though their academic grades are not comparable to meet Singapore

For this assignment, I decided to conduct my interview with an individual who works for
Malmbergets AIF (AIF = public sports club) in Malmberget, situated in the far north of Sweden.
Established in 1904, the veteran club is and have been active within numerous sports, from soccer to
cross country skiing, and throughout the club's long history, one will find stories of great success,
such as when its Olympic handball team played in the highest division in the mid–seventies, or one

Given that MAIF operates within a number of different sports, Johansson describes that the best part
is that his job changes with the seasons. During winter, he'll get to focus on sports like ice hockey,
and during summer, he can focus on their youth programs for soccer. Much like several other

titles on all major platforms for the year. The company has a gross margin of 65% but barely turned

allows us to determine the pricing power within a given industry, and can be tailored to an specific
firm within that industry. The five forces are bargaining power of buyers, bargaining power of
suppliers, threat of new entrants, threat of substitutions, and the intensity of rivalry within the
industry. Slide 3: The bargaining power of buyers is moderate. Buyers are attracted to hit titles and
will pay more for them, but this is moderated by strong competition in the number of titles. The
