Beauty And Scarcity Values In The Age Of Beauty
Beauty may be inherent in scarcity value, universality, and balance. In the age of starvation, a plump
woman is regarded as a beautiful woman, and in the era of satiation, a slender woman is regarded as
a beautiful woman. Also, I have forgotten where I have heard, but it is said that humans would
scramble for mud if the earth were made of gold. While scarcity value changes with the times,
things that are difficult to alter such as jewelry can be subject to beauty because of its universality.
Also, the golden ratio in modeling and the beauty of mathematics can also be subject to beauty.
What I can say in common for these is that these things will make the viewers feel pleasant feelings.
Although a perspective of beauty is different for each person, I think that cultural similarity will also
exist if you look over it. In short, there is a common beauty standard within the same community. I
think that it is caused by cultural background. Since personal aesthetic value standards are built by
individual growth processes, each person has different beauty, but its growth process is affected by
the cultural climate to which it belongs. Therefore, I assume that people growing up in the same
climate are likely to have standards of similar beauty.
For example, I grew up in Tokyo. One time, my friend visited on a trip from the countryside. When I
guided the streets of Tokyo, she saw the neon street of the night and said it was beautiful, but I did
not understand what was beautiful

Split Cherry Tree Quotes
A Day Spent at School While attending school, Luster Sexton learns an important lesson. "Th'
world's changin'"(Stuart 8). Mr. Luster, one of the main characters in "Split Cherry Tree" by Jessie
Stuart, spends the day at his son's school with Professor Herbert, a teacher, to observe the changes in
the education system. This results in Luster realizing his ideas about school were false. Luster learns
that teachers acquired more knowledge, and that to get a good paying job, children must attend
school. Luster also appreciates his son's knowledge more. Spending a day at school affects Luster
Sexton's out look on school and his relationship with his son. Luster respects and becomes prideful
of his son because of attending school. Seeing the wise decisions his son makes, Luster's pride in his
son increases. First off, Luster shows pride in his son's actions. Luster's pride in his son grows when
Dave stays at school to finish his job. Secondly, Luster encourages his son. "Jist remember, Dave, to
pay your debts and be honest." (Stuart 12) Luster explains to Dave that he will change and so will
the world around him but to never stop respecting others. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In the changing world, not every one can make their living as a farmer. The world changes and to
make money to provide for their families people need to go to school. Luster's thoughts and ideas
about the world are no longer correct. "School has changed from my day and time. I'm a dead leaf,
Dave. I'm behind. I don't belong here." (Stuart 11). Luster understands that eduction has become
more advanced since he was a kid . Kids do not just use books and listen to the teacher instruct, now
students get hands on experience. Professor Herbert takes the boys outside to better understand what
they are studying at the moment. Because of seeing the changes in the school system, Luster realizes
the importance of going to

Essay on Split Cherry Tree by Jesse Stuart
Split Cherry Tree by Jesse Stuart
The short story, Spilt Cherry Tree, was written by Jesse Stuart. In the beginning of the story, Dave
and his classmates went with Professor Herbert on a field trip for biology class. They were all
searching for lizards, bugs, snakes, frogs, flowers, and plants. Dave and five of his classmates had
spotted a lizard in the old cherry tree up the hill, so all six of them ran up the tree after it, and the
tree broke down. Eif Crabtree, the owner of the tree was plowing when it happened and he ran up
and go tall the boys' names. Dave's five classmates who broke the tree with him were all able to get
the dollar that they owed Mr. Crabtree, but Dave knew he wouldn't be able to get his. Professor

Dave told his father about the field trip and having to work to pay the dollar, but his father didn't
believe he was telling the truth, so he said he was going to go down to the school the next day. He
begged and begged his father not to go to the school, but his father refused to listen to anything
Dave said.
The next morning, after chores and breakfast, Dave and his father went to the high school. Luster
told Professor Herbert the same story Dave told him, and the Professor told him the story was
accurate. His father couldn't understand why they would go out looking for bugs and stuff when
they should be inside learning from the books. Professor Herbert told him that there were certain
courses of study that had to be complete for the state, but he still didn't understand, so Professor
Herbert requested that Luster stay all day at the high school. Luster and the professor stayed
together the whole day and they observed the different classes. At the end of the school day, Dave
and his father finished working for Dave's dollar and then went home. Dave's father told Dave that
he got along good with professor Herbert, and he told Dave that he was very well off at the school,
so he should continue to learn the things that he never had the chance to learn.
Luster Sexton is a very hard working sixty–five year old man. He worked very hard all of his life on
the farm, and he was not very well educated. He wanted what was best for

Short Story : A Story
Once in an old time, there was a princess named Shaelyn. She lived in a castle with her two parents
King Craig and Queen Angie. She was a short 15–year–old brunette that didn't have many friends.
She was very shy and would have much rathered sit in her room alone all day instead of going out.
Her mother had recently fallen ill and died unexpectedly. Shaelyn and her mother had a very strong
bond, they were like best friends. When her mother had suddenly died she was devastated that she
would never be able to see her again and would have done anything for one more goodbye. On a
gross cold, rainy day Shaelyn was walking the streets when a homeless man turned to her as the
clouds moved away and the sun came out. He told her that if she would like to bring her mother
back that she just has to follow three simple steps. First, go to the enchanted forest. Second, find the
magic potion that lies on top of the cherry blossom tree and third brings it home and pour it over a
chair and her mother would appear. As soon as she heard this she ran home in joy, so excited to tell
her father, but while on her way she was thinking that this was way too good to be true. She moped
home and layed in her bed for the rest of the night. The next morning at breakfast she told her father
about what the man had said and desperate to see Queen Angie again he explained to Shaelyn that it
is worth a try if there is a possibility it would bring back her mother. Shaelyn wasted no time getting

A Concerned Budding Tree
I know it is hard to see our tree friends lose their leaves in the fall, but the good news is that when
trees lose their leaves it is actually a really good thing. Losing leaves is nature's "strategy to survive
harsh weather conditions" (Conners, 2016, para. 1). If our tree friends did not lose their leaves they
could not stay healthy and cheery. Please do not worry A Concerned Budding Arborist because this
is a process that affects many species of trees. Some of them include: ash, aspen, beech, birch,
cherry, elm, hickory, hornbeam, maple, oak, poplar and willow. According to my friend of trees
Conners (2016), "Shedding leaves helps trees conserve water and energy" and "help trees pollinate
in the springtime" (Conners, 2016, para. 4).

Sam Van Aken: The Tree Of 40 Fruit
"The Tree of 40 Fruit" is as magical as it sounds.
Sam Van Aken, artist and Syracuse University professor, uses what is known as the grafting
technique to grow a tree that bears 40 different kinds of fruits.
Simply put, the process involves taking out a branch from a tree and inserting it into a slit of the
branch of the "working tree". It will then be wrapped with a tape until it completely heals for a
certain time frame. Come spring time, the "working tree" blossoms into several hues of pink and
purple. Then when it's summer time, it bears numerous stone fruits like peaches, nectarines,
cherries, apricots, plums, and almonds.
The impressive concept originated back in 2008 when Van Aken chanced upon an abandoned
orchard holding varieties

Split Cherry Tree And Love Quotes
Throughout both "Split Cherry Tree" and "Love", the characters, Pa and William Maxwell, develop
into mature people, following certain events that occur. In "Split Cherry Tree" Pa starts the short
story as a crazy farmer that fixes all his problems with a gun, but we later find out that he just wants
to be a "honest [person] . We don't want something for nothing... Th' world must go on. It changed
while I raised my kids ad plowed th' hills. I'm just and honest man. I don't skip debts." (Stuart 84).
At the start, Pa finds that it's unjust for Professor Herbert to hold Dave after school since he's poor.
He becomes so outraged that Dave comes home late that he brings a gun to school. But towards the
end of the story he realizes how good education ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the start of "Split Cherry Tree" Pa is an uneducated man who doesn't understand the importance
of education. That can be showed when he says ""this ain't no high school. It's a bug school, a lizard
school, a snake school... a bullet can come out'n that hole that will kill a school teacher same as it
will with any other man." It is exemplified here that during this quote Pa is so blinded by the debt
that he is willing to bring a gun to school. He can't get past it and see the school is a place for
learning. His lacks of common sense which causes him to think irrationally ultimately leading him
to become a crazy farmer. However, this moment leads to the shift in which he realizes how
important education really is. Similarly, in "Love" William can't accept the sudden disappearance, as
shown in the text "Week after week passed, and the substitute teacher continued to sit at Miss
Brown's desk... and we went on acting the way we had when Miss Brown was there because we
didn't want her to come back and find we hadn't been nice to the substitute" (Maxwell Paragraph 9).
Even after such a long time, William had hope that Miss Brown would return to her desk. He
couldn't see that she was never coming back. His false hope leads him to an important turning point,
the moment he finally realizes that she won't come back. Even though them being naive causes

Tree Thoughts Research Paper
Tree Thoughts In the early 1950s when I was a tyke of five or six, in my backyard with no sand box
or swing set, grew a cherry tree probably planted in the 1930s by our home's first owners. One of its
major limbs had been sawed off. In spite of being an amputee, its remaining branches of dark green
serrated leaves stretched to five or seven feet higher than the flat–roofed garage it stood next to. It
produced an ample crop, maybe twenty–five quarts, of sour cherries which ripened rapidly in the
middle of summer there in Canton, Ohio. Birds liked those red cherries as much as we did. More
often than not we picked them before the robins began snacking on them. My mom had grown up on
a farm about fifty miles east of Canton and knew how to bake a cherry pie. Starting from scratch,
using lard or Crisco in her recipe, guaranteed her crust would be crisp and flaky. My parents grew
up when canning fruits and vegetables was more the norm than not. Their generation valued
thriftiness. As their first–born I was a shy, inquisitive child. My usual summer attire was blue jeans
turned up three or four inches, and a colorful, striped tee–shirt. When I was older I was told, I acted
grown–up because I had a serious air about me. Like trees, though, I thrived in the sunshine. After
just a few minutes of being in the sun, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Western Front Symbolism
In Erich Maria Remarque's All Quiet on the Western Front the protagonist, Paul Bäumer, along with
five other German soldiers, tell their story of World War One and the physical, mental, and spiritual
anguish that it caused them. Paul is a German soldier, fighting in the trenches, who is a nice, caring,
and sympathetic man. However, the brutality of the war forces him to become emotionally detached,
and as the story progresses, his outlook on life becomes grim and bleak. Through the use of
Kenmerich's boots, nature, and women in the novel, it is seen that the author uses symbols to help
the reader understand different aspects of war, as seen through the eyes of the characters. Firstly,
Kemmerichs boots symbolize death, and the cheapness of life. Kemmerichs boots are described as
high and supple. As the story progresses, they are passed from soldier to soldier. The author writes,
"Müller can make good use of them. Kemmerich will die; it is immaterial who gets them." This
quotation perfectly shows how cheap life is in times of war. Their friend is dying, and all they can
talk about are who gets his boots. The novel is suggesting that a pair of boots is more important than
a human life. Therefore, through the use of Kemmerichs boots, it is seen that the author uses the
boots as a tool to represent how cheap life really is. Moreover, After the death of their dear friend
Kemmerich, Müller inherited his boots. Even though Kemmerich is dead, Müller is happier than he
had

Analysis Of Anton Chekhov 's ' The Cherry Orchard '
Ties that Bind In Russian writer Anton Chekhov's play, The Cherry Orchard, Chekhov tells the story
of a family in crisis and instability at the beginning of the 20th century. The family is about to lose
their beloved cherry tree orchard estate because they cannot pay the mortgage. The play, written in
1904, only one year before the first Russian Revolution (1905–1907), is a rendering of the social
changes and reform that Russia was experiencing. Chekhov died in 1904 just months before the
uprising called Bloody Sunday and was himself the grandson of an emancipated serf (Marks, n.d.)
In The Cherry Orchard, there are no riots or raised and clenched fists, but it is a subtler reflection of
the times, and the death and demise of the Russian aristocracy and the making of a middle class.
However, post slavery or serfdom, the chains that bind humans are not always visible. The way
Chekhov portrayed the former serfs in his play seems to whitewash reality and allow the audience to
conveniently forget the past. Perhaps he did this with purpose. In American film and literature, we
took the same tack until the latter part of the 20th century. In Chekhov's play and in America "the
help" comes across as one of the family, free of the emotional pain of the past and are portrayed as
happy and willing to serve. The emotional slavery represented in The Cherry Orchard is not limited
to the former serfs but also includes the aristocracy and middle class as well. In modern times,

After the voice stopped, Riku got out of the sleeping chamber he was in. He walked out of the

Qing Dao Short Story
Once upon a time, a kind old fisherman lived with his daughter on an island. One day, the Dragon
King kidnapped the daughter and brought her to his palace. The poor fisherman stood by the ocean
calling out to the sea day by day, for years. It made the Dragon King angry so he cast a spell on him
causing the man to slowly turn into a rock. After the daughter heard what the Dragon King had
done, she escaped the palace and ran towards her father who has now turned into a rock. The ocean
breeze blew the flowers in her hair onto the island, making plants grow. When she is near Lao
mountain, the Dragon King put a spell on her too and turned her into a giant reef. From that day on,
the father and daughter can only look at each other from across the sea, unable to meet. This is the

Locke Weems or sometimes referred to as Parson Weems. He created this painting in 1939 to tell the

canvas and is currently in the Amon Carter Museum of American Art, Fort Worth, Texas. The
painting has a width of 127.3 cm by a height of 97.5 cm. This painting has main components that

I Have A Yong Suster
When analyzing literature, context is important because different interpretations of the same piece
can lead to very different meanings. The poem "I Have A Yong Suster" is a piece of Middle English
poetry that can have several meanings depending on how it is read. Some say that the poem suggests
a sexual relationship, while others say that it is an exchange between siblings. The narrator in this
poem is sent three gifts that can have different meanings depending on who sent them. One
interpretation identifies the sender as the narrator's sister, and it portrays themes of love and
innocence. Another interpretation claims that the sender is a sweetheart or lover of the narrator, and
in this interpretation, the poem represents courtship. "I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another important detail in this interpretation is the choice made by the author to make the sender of
these gifts a young sibling. This could be an intentional decision to strengthen the connection
between these specific gifts and young children. According to the Middle English Dictionary,
however, "suster" can be translated as "spouse" or "lover". This interpretation gives the poem a
sexual twist. The first gift, the cherry, is representative of a woman's virginity. The second gift, a
dove, is typically a symbol of love. Also, they have been said to carry messages, such as the
messages between the narrator and their lover. Additionally, the briar fits into the theme of nature
symbols, and reproduction is a part of nature. The idea of the gifts being related to children also fits
into this interpretation. The narrator notes late in the poem that "Whan the maiden hath that she
loveth, / She is withoute longinge" (27–28). "Longinge" can be interpreted to mean longing, as in
wishfulness, but it can also be read as longing, as in a sexual desire. This could mean that when a
girl has the one she loves, her desire for love – in a possibly sexual manner – is sated. Reading the
poem with the translation of "suster" as lover gives it a new twist and changes some of the meanings
that can be interpreted from the poem. The meaning of lover carries on to modern songs such as "I
Gave My Love A Cherry" by Carly Simon in 2007. This song is often

The Seasons and What They Mean in Japanese Culture
In Noh there are many things that are significant, and that have deeper meanings. For instance the
simple way that they walk, sing, and move all mean something more. While doing the presentations
on a Noh play I noticed something beautiful about the play that I had chosen. Spring was mentioned
a lot, it had many cameos in the play. In Yuya the entire back story of the play is the discussions of
going to see the cherry blossoms. Spring in Japan means a whole lot more than just another season.
It means new life, and new beginnings, a way for family to come together and start anew. So while
taking this course I really picked up on the seasonal aspect of Noh whether it be spring, autumn,
summer, or winter. Each setting gave a new feeling of how people reacted, and it's true in real life
also. So in this essay I will be discussing all of the seasons and what they mean in Japanese culture,
with some symbolic things and Noh examples also. Spring also known as haru is the first of four
seasons in Japan, from March to May. The significance of the cherry blossom tree in Japanese
culture goes back hundreds of years. In their country, the cherry blossom represents the simplicity
and the beauty of life. It just shows that even though life is sometimes wonderful and beautiful, it
can also be very short and to always remember that we only have so long. When the cherry blossom
trees bloom for a short time each year, they show that very well since they are so beautiful but

Research Report On Orchard Inoculation Studies

Orchard inoculation studies
In the orchard studies of 2014 season, significant variations (P<0.05) on disease severity (Table 4).
Disease severity increased with increasing conidial concentration. The conidial concentration of
5000/ml was minimum for 1% disease severity in mature detached fruits in lab. The interaction
between inoculation date and inoculum concentrations indicated the dependency of disease
development on growth stages of fruits besides conidial concentrations (Fig. 5).
Assessment of airborne inoculum in the orchard

Discussion
This study showed that powdery mildew disease infection on sweet cherry fruits is effected by P.
prunicola inoculum or conidial concentration. At least 500 conidia / ml was needed to develop
significant fruit infection in cherry. Generally, disease incidence and disease severity increased in
cherry fruits with increasing inoculum concentration. A positive relationship between inoculum
concentration and disease development has also been demonstrated in the other powdery mildew

auto–inhibition of conidial germination as reported in other fungal pathogens (Leandro et al., 2003).
Additional studies should be carried out to find out highest conidial concentration threshold for
maximum cherry fruits disease incidence and severity. Orchard experiments of this study suggested
that infection of cherry fruits by P. prunicola also depends on the development stage of fruits.
Increased resistance to powdery mildew infection with maturing fruit has been reported in many
powdery mildew – host fruit systems such as grapes (Gadoury et al., 2003), hop (Wolfenbarger et
al., 2012), pears (Spotts, 1984), and apples (Russ and Blatter 1990). However, results from this
study showed that fruit became increasingly susceptible to P.

order to imply a connection between nature and the human mind, Wordsworth uses the technique of

Narrative Essay On Salmiakki And Ahm
The final bell screeched its way into the 3:31, signifying the end of the school day. Middle Eastern

Forest Succession
Each type of tree has a different set of specific requirements for growth, and not every type of tree
can grow at any point of time or place. However, as time passes, the conditions of that location
might change, allowing for a different tree species to grow. This change in conditions is known as
forest succession. Forest succession is generally triggered by a disturbance, which is defined in this
case as an event that causes mortality. Forest succession is a natural process, and a lot of the time the
disturbance is also. In the past, natural disturbances including lightning strikes and resulting fires,
winds, tornadoes, disease and insects, ice, and storms. However, as settlers began moving westward

They are generally broken down into two groups: the early successional species and the late
successional species. The early successional trees generally grow fast and have high reproduction
rates, but don't live long and are shade intolerant. This group includes the birch family, black
cherries, and white pines. As time passes, the forest closes in, and trees begin to die. As the early
successional generation of trees die, the late successional group starts to grow and take over. This
group has a slow growth rate and long lifespan and includes the American beech, the oaks, and the
hemlock. Because of this succession, we develop two different types of forests, young growth and
old growth forests. Young growth forests consist of many of the early–successional trees and have
more trees overall, yet still tend to have less basal area, or the area taken up by the bases of the trees.
Old growth forests, on the other hand, are formed almost completely by late–successional trees with
the bases of the trees spaced further apart yet with more basal area. Here in this laboratory
experiment, we investigated the differences between an old growth (late–successional) forest and a
young (early–successional) forest. We measured the basal area of systematically selected trees,

The Cherry Orchard By Anton Chekhov
"The Cherry Orchard" is a drama which contains a hint of comedy that originates from the country
of Russia, by way of the author Anton Chekhov. The drama is centered around Russia's popular
form of slavery, which is the acquisition of a serf. Contrary to theatrical or modern conceptions of
slavery, the contract between a serf and their owner could be dismissed on the grounds of buying
your freedom. In correspondence with the history of Russia, Chekhov expands on the meaning of
freedom by interpreting the influence of money, the radical change in social class, and the ability of
the serfs to take control of their lives following their liberation. In order to systematically redeem
the memory of the massive cherry orchard, Chekhov combines the orchards memory with the minds
of individuals and expands on their connection to life beyond their memoires and the actions they
take in the future. The Cherry Orchard's themes outline the influx of social power in connection to
class variability, questions the opportunity of freedom, and elaborated on the irony of wealth.
Social class in regards to Russia is represented by the usual upper, middle, and lower class system.
Anton Chekhov observes the actions of the social class systems and portrays their qualities through
characters and their connection to the cherry orchard. Following the abolition of serfdom in 1917,
the emancipation of serfs opened a "floodgate" of pathways for serfs to chose from, which is in
reference to their lives

Title: 11 Reasons to Eat Cherries
Category: Health & Wellness
Tags: antioxidants, tart cherries, sweet cherries
Snippet: Today research shows us why eating cherries not only supports immunity, but also helps
prevent certain diseases. Here's 11 reasons why cherries should be a whole food staple in everyone's
kitchen.
Article: In the 1600s settlers brought cherry trees to America, and for good reason. Cherries, bright
red, juicy and delicious are so much more than just a sweet treat. It turns out, they're packed full of
beneficial nutrients – and may even prevent certain diseases. Here's why you should include cherries
in your diet, everyday!
1. Fights damaging free radicals
Cherries dark red color comes from their high concentration of anthocyanins, which are
antioxidants. Both sweet and tart cherries supply these beneficial antioxidants although tart cherries
contain more. Antioxidants help prevent cellular damage – the road to cancer, aging and many
diseases. That means by eating antioxidant–rich foods like cherries you can replace free radicals in
the body before they damage cells. In fact, even the antioxidants found in cherry juice and dried
cherries, sweetened and unsweetened, are similar to fresh cherries. While frozen and canned cherries
are somewhat lower in antioxidants, they're still significant suggests the American Institute for
Cancer Research.
2. Helps relieve osteoarthritis

The Low Coefficient Of The Lichen Population
Discussion:
The overall variation of the mean moisture content of tree bark, and the mean distribution of the
Lichen population in relation to the increasing height of the tree from the ground level is shown in
Figure 1. It was observed that there is a remarkable reduction in the mean moisture content of the
bark as the height of the tree increased. Hence there is a strong relationship between the mean
moisture content and the tree height as supported by the high coefficient of determination value (R2
= 0.96136). The mean moisture content from the tree height of 0.50 metres to 1.00 metre has a
percentage reduction of 18% (Refer to Appendix VI for equation), and this value increases to 24%
from the tree height of 0.50 metres to 1.50 metres. Fielding (1952) on his research on Monterey pine
trees, also found that some trees showed a progressive decrease in the moisture content, as the tree
height increased. The reason for this maybe due to the fact that the lower parts of the trees have a
closer proximity to the soil surface. In this location the organic matter content of the top layer of soil
is relatively high due to seasonal tree leaves deposition of perennial trees and a good cover of grass
surface, this creates a higher moisture retention of top soil therefore lower parts of the trees get more
moisture contact. Claire Shi (2016), conducted a similar research on trees at a different area at the
Victoria Esplanade. The results from her research show that the moisture

The Old Capital By Yasunari Kawabata
In Yasunari Kawabata's book the old capital, there is a profounding amount of beauty which is
described. One could even argue that the story of Chieko is of secondary importance to describing
the beauty of Kyoto. In every part of the book there always seems to be a reference to nature and the
seasons . In most instances, nature as well as the traditional Japanese festivals in the novel often
symbolize the parallel of a new modernizing japan and the old traditional Japan. However, more
importantly, the seasonal imagery parallels the story of Chieko herself and the moods she is feeling.
It is no coincidence that kawabata's first chapter is called the flowers of spring while the last chapter
is called winter flowers. As the title of the first chapter suggests, the beginning of the novel is filled
with spring imagery. Spring in Japanese culture is an interesting time because it symbolizes new
life. It's also the time of year that the cherry blossoms begin to bloom. This sense of new life is also
somewhat portrayed in Chieko at this point in the book. Chieko has only just recently turned 20 and
she is brimming with life, even if she does seem to have a few worries on her mind. Chieko's parents
even say to Chieko that she was taken from her parents from a cherry blossom tree in Gion. Besides
the cherry blossoms, there is one other flower that Chieko seems to take an interest in during the
spring. Chieko describes the 2 violets which are attached to the maple tree in her garden

Baron in the Trees Essay
The book "The Baron in the Trees," by Italo Calvino is about the Baron Cosimo Piovasco di
Rondò, or simply known as Cosimo, spent almost all of his life living up in the trees of
Ombrosa after refusing to eat the disgusting plate of snails that his sister had made for the family
dinner one night when he was twelve. Cosimo kept to his word "I'll never come down again!"
(Calvino 13) and he never set foot on the ground again. Cosimo was not bound to one tree though;
he was able to travel to many parts of Ombrosa by tree, and lead a very adventurous and full life.
The main point of my essay is to discuss the ongoing relationship between Cosimo and the
environment.

He also traveled and explored many parts of Ombrosa when he first moved into his new kingdom of

During the eighteenth century, due to the industrial revolution and the advent of steam power and
other modern devices the once lush and plentiful trees of Italy had, were cut down in order to fuel
the fires, create more power, and drive the revolution. In the closing paragraphs Biagio states "trees
seem almost to have no right here since my brother left or since they have been swept by this frenzy
for the ax." (Calvino 217) And that the arrival of the French and Napoleon's army, the chopping of
the trees went on. There are very few forests left in Lombardy as they were described as in the book,
if any. According to The Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia Lombardy is now "the chief
commercial, industrial, and financial center in Italy, and Lombardy is the country's leading industrial
region." This would explain why people decided to cut down the trees in order to help make way for
the growing economy.
Cosimo's relationship with the trees was not just a place to live, but more than that. He cared for the
trees and protected them as much as he possibly could, as if he were defending a friend or family
member. He and the Abbé constructed an irrigation system in order to put out the forest fires
if they broke out. He also told the French army where they could build new roads, "Cosimo

In Spring, many tourists flock to the Capitol to see the incredible flowering cherries. Since the
introduction and legal passing of the Kwanzan cherry into the States cultivation has mainly focused
on ornamental use in landscapes. Japanese flowering cherries are some of the most popular
ornamental flowering trees in the landscape.
As Japanese flowering cherries have proven their popularity, the Kwanzan cherry itself has a variety
of different uses. A common use is as a specimen tree, it can be a great focal point and make a
beautiful addition to a landscape. The tree is great near large buildings offering it's horizontal
structure to break up harness of blank space. Other uses include in a container or above–ground
planter, residential street tree, the tree can be trainable, and is used as a Bonsai tree (Web 3). Its vase
shape with symmetrical canopy makes the tree favorable for its various uses.
The Kwanzan cherry has three methods used for propagation, softwood cutting, air layering and
grafting. This particular tree is often grated on P. avium (Starret, 2016) commonly known as sweet
cherry or wild cherry. Soft wood cutting and grafting are more common methods for propagation.
Air layering can be carried out to quickly establish a tree with mature characteristics. The tree can
also be obtained elsewhere which will be discussed toward the end of this paper. After the initial
planting, it's important to water regularly.

And the pears grow yellow and soft. Five dollars a ton. Five dollars for forty fiftypound boxes; trees
pruned and sprayed, orchards cultivated–pick the fruit, put it in boxes, load the trucks, deliver the
fruit to the cannery–forty boxes for five dollars. We can 't do it. And the yellow fruit falls heavily to
the ground and splashes on the ground.
The yellowjackets dig into the soft meat, and there is a smell of ferment and rot.
Then the grapes–we can 't make good wine. People can 't buy good wine. Rip the grapes from the
vines, good grapes, rotten grapes, wasp–stung grapes. Press stems, press dirt and rot.
But there 's mildew and formic acid in the vats.
Add sulphur and tannic acid.
The smell from the ferment is not the rich odor of wine, but the smell of decay and chemicals. Oh,
well. It has alcohol in it, anyway. They can get drunk.
The little farmers watched debt creep up on them like the tide. They sprayed the trees and sold no
crop, they pruned and grafted and could not pick the crop. And the men of knowledge have worked,
have considered, and the fruit is rotting on the ground, and the decaying mash in the wine vat is

A. Chekhov
The Cherry Orchard is Russian playwright Anton Chekhov 's last play. It premiered at the Moscow
Art Theatre 17 January 1904 in a production directed by Constantin Stanislavski. Chekhov intended
this play as a comedy and it does contain some elements of farce; however, Stanislavski insisted on
directing the play as a tragedy. Since this initial production, directors have had to contend with the
dual nature of this play.
The play concerns an aristocratic Russian woman and her family as they return to the family 's estate
(which includes a large and well–known cherry orchard) just before it is auctioned to pay the
mortgage. While presented with options to save the estate, the family essentially does nothing and
the play ends with the estate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Chekhov was apparently delighted with the very sound of the title, and enjoyed the same sense of
triumph months later when he finally revealed it to Stanislavski. By October 1903 the play was
finished and sent to the Moscow Art Theater. Three weeks later Chekhov arrived at rehearsals in
what would be a vain attempt to curb all the "weepiness" from the play which Stanislavski had
developed. The author apparently also snickered when, during rehearsals, the word "orchard" was
replaced with the more practical "plantation", feeling he had perfectly and symbolically captured the
impracticality of an entire way of life.

It is a wintry fall, mid–October, 1868. I stood beside the tree where my parents decided to marry for

All Quiet On The Western Front: An Analysis
World War I was one of the most destructive wars in recorded Human History and it was only 100
years ago. The book, All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque proves that war is
very destructive. The people we are looking at are Paul Baumer, Albert Kropp, and Detering. These
people are brainwashed and are told that they are the "iron youth" and are coerced to join the army
during World War I. Then they go into the war and see that war is not glorious, but see an ugly
reality that is war. War is very destructive of physical places, emotionally, and can cause a loss of a
generation, and this book shows this very well.
War can be very destructive to the mental stability of people. An example of mental deterioration is
that Paul sees that Detering is affected by the screams of the horses during the battle. Paul says, "We
are pale. Detering stands up. 'God! For God's sake! Shoot them'" (Remarque 62). In this situation,
Detering was yelling out giving away their location in the middle of a war zone because he was
being driven insane from the horses screams. It drove him to where he made the illogical move to
yell out. Later in the war, Detering loses all of his mental stability due ... Show more content on

Climate Changes And Disruption : Climate Change And Ecosystem
Climate Change and Ecosystem.
Climate changes affect ecosystems by altering the water cycle, natural habitats and leading to the
changes in food sources, animal migration and the timing of natural processes such as flowering.
Disruption of the ecosystems increase the risk of extinction for many species. Animals and plants
need to adapt to the environmental change on a fast and bigger scale which put great danger to those
species. Changes that disrupt the functioning of ecosystems may increase the risk of harm or even
extinction for some species. According to the National Audubon Society (2014), the winter center of
abundance of the 305 north American bird species moved northward by over 40 miles between 1966
and 2013. This moving is closely related to the higher winter temperatures. Nearly 50 species moved
northward over 200 miles.
In 2016, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and Rutgers University studied the
annual changes in latitude and depth of over 100 marine species along the northeast coast and in the
eastern Bering Sea. They found that the center of bio¬mass of marine species shifted northward by
10 miles and moved 20 feet deeper if compare the data from 1982 and 2015. Climate change affects
pheno¬logical events too. The timing of phenological events is closely related to climate, so it is
used as an indicator for ecological processes. Two scientifically used reliable indicators are the first
leaf dates and the first bloom dates of certain species.

Plum Garden At Kameido Analysis
The Plum Garden at Kameido, is a woodblock print that focuses on the branch of a plum tree with a
background consisting of varying washes of color. A reddish–pink sky gradually fades into white, in
turn transferring once more into the green hue of the ground. The middle ground of the piece shows
twelve people on the other side of a fence and it appears as if they are going about their daily
business. The middle ground also possesses several other plum trees, all of which seem in the
beginnings of their bloom. Closest to the viewer, the focal point of the piece, stands the main Plum
tree with its branches swinging from the left at sharp angles and moving to the right. Although most
of the shapes appear flat, with limited shadows, the estate contains greater depth through an

The bright–white double–blossoms of the plum tree are believed to keep darkness away and their
domination within the space give the scene a sense of life. In Japanese culture, blooming gardens
become the focus of many traditions and cultural practices. In the Heian Period, the Japanese were
greatly influenced by China, including the practice of flower viewing in the spring, while fruit trees
were in full blossom. The plum tree, with its large white blossoms, was originally one of the most
highly acclaimed trees in China. This idea made its way to Japan and symbolized early spring, while
the cherry blossom found association with late

Essay on Symbolism in The Cherry Orchard by Anton Chekhov
Symbolism in The Cherry Orchard by Anton Chekhov
Mamma! Are you crying, mamma? My dear, good, sweet mamma! Darling, I love you! I bless you!
The Cherry orchard is sold; it?s gone; its quite true, it?s quite true. But don?t cry, mamma, you?ve
still got life before you, you?ve still got your pure and lovely soul. Come with me, darling, and
come away from here. We?ll plant a new garden, still lovelier than this. You will see it and
understand, and happiness, deep, tranquil happiness will sink down on your soul, like the sun at
eventide, and you?ll smile, mamma. Come, darling, come with me!
The Cherry Orchard has been acclaimed as one of the greatest theatrical experiences of all time. It is
clearly seen through the use of the more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was his last work and is considered to be his masterpiece. It was first produced on January 17,
1904 by the Moscow Arts Theater, on the twenty–fifth anniversary of his career. The Cherry
Orchard then was established as a classic in the 1950?s. It was recognized as a new type of drama
due to the controversy of whether it was a comedy or drama.
Anton Chekhov conceived The Cherry Orchard as a comedy but had trouble persuading people it
was not a drama. The play fulfills all the conventional requirements of a classical and of a realist
drama. It aligns the action with time, from hopeful spring to despairing autumn. It has a crux to the
plot that remains unresolved until the end of the third act – Will the estate be sold or saved? It has
couples who seem destined to be married, servants who fail to serve a heroine with both grave flaws
and charisma. The Cherry Orchard can be read in many ways, as a conflict between hope and
despair, between conflicting illusions, or nature and mankind. Above all, it can be read as an
evocation of honest pessimism about the outcome of all these conflicts, with only a glimmer of hope
and no false consolations. This idea is seen throughout the views of the major characters.
All of Russia is our garden. The earth is great and beautiful; it is full of wonderful places. Think,

Beauty And Scarcity Values In The Age Of Beauty

 • 1. Beauty And Scarcity Values In The Age Of Beauty Beauty may be inherent in scarcity value, universality, and balance. In the age of starvation, a plump woman is regarded as a beautiful woman, and in the era of satiation, a slender woman is regarded as a beautiful woman. Also, I have forgotten where I have heard, but it is said that humans would scramble for mud if the earth were made of gold. While scarcity value changes with the times, things that are difficult to alter such as jewelry can be subject to beauty because of its universality. Also, the golden ratio in modeling and the beauty of mathematics can also be subject to beauty. What I can say in common for these is that these things will make the viewers feel pleasant feelings. Although a perspective of beauty is different for each person, I think that cultural similarity will also exist if you look over it. In short, there is a common beauty standard within the same community. I think that it is caused by cultural background. Since personal aesthetic value standards are built by individual growth processes, each person has different beauty, but its growth process is affected by the cultural climate to which it belongs. Therefore, I assume that people growing up in the same climate are likely to have standards of similar beauty. For example, I grew up in Tokyo. One time, my friend visited on a trip from the countryside. When I guided the streets of Tokyo, she saw the neon street of the night and said it was beautiful, but I did not understand what was beautiful ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Luster also appreciates his son's knowledge more. Spending a day at school affects Luster Sexton's out look on school and his relationship with his son. Luster respects and becomes prideful of his son because of attending school. Seeing the wise decisions his son makes, Luster's pride in his son increases. • 5. Essay on Split Cherry Tree by Jesse Stuart Split Cherry Tree by Jesse Stuart The short story, Spilt Cherry Tree, was written by Jesse Stuart. In the beginning of the story, Dave and his classmates went with Professor Herbert on a field trip for biology class. They were all searching for lizards, bugs, snakes, frogs, flowers, and plants. Dave and five of his classmates had spotted a lizard in the old cherry tree up the hill, so all six of them ran up the tree after it, and the tree broke down. Eif Crabtree, the owner of the tree was plowing when it happened and he ran up and go tall the boys' names. Dave told his father about the field trip and having to work to pay the dollar, but his father didn't believe he was telling the truth, so he said he was going to go down to the school the next day. He begged and begged his father not to go to the school, but his father refused to listen to anything Dave said. The next morning, after chores and breakfast, Dave and his father went to the high school. Luster told Professor Herbert the same story Dave told him, and the Professor told him the story was accurate. His father couldn't understand why they would go out looking for bugs and stuff when they should be inside learning from the books. Professor Herbert told him that there were certain courses of study that had to be complete for the state, but he still didn't understand, so Professor Herbert requested that Luster stay all day at the high school. Luster and the professor stayed together the whole day and they observed the different classes. At the end of the school day, Dave and his father finished working for Dave's dollar and then went home. Dave's father told Dave that he got along good with professor Herbert, and he told Dave that he was very well off at the school, so he should continue to learn the things that he never had the chance to learn. • 11. A Concerned Budding Tree I know it is hard to see our tree friends lose their leaves in the fall, but the good news is that when trees lose their leaves it is actually a really good thing. Losing leaves is nature's "strategy to survive harsh weather conditions" (Conners, 2016, para. 1). If our tree friends did not lose their leaves they could not stay healthy and cheery. Please do not worry A Concerned Budding Arborist because this is a process that affects many species of trees. Some of them include: ash, aspen, beech, birch, cherry, elm, hickory, hornbeam, maple, oak, poplar and willow. • 13. Sam Van Aken: The Tree Of 40 Fruit "The Tree of 40 Fruit" is as magical as it sounds. Sam Van Aken, artist and Syracuse University professor, uses what is known as the grafting technique to grow a tree that bears 40 different kinds of fruits. Simply put, the process involves taking out a branch from a tree and inserting it into a slit of the branch of the "working tree". It will then be wrapped with a tape until it completely heals for a certain time frame. Come spring time, the "working tree" blossoms into several hues of pink and purple. Then when it's summer time, it bears numerous stone fruits like peaches, nectarines, cherries, apricots, plums, and almonds. The impressive concept originated back in 2008 when Van Aken chanced upon an abandoned orchard holding varieties ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

 • 15. Split Cherry Tree And Love Quotes Throughout both "Split Cherry Tree" and "Love", the characters, Pa and William Maxwell, develop into mature people, following certain events that occur. In "Split Cherry Tree" Pa starts the short story as a crazy farmer that fixes all his problems with a gun, but we later find out that he just wants to be a "honest [person] . We don't want something for nothing... Th' world must go on. It changed while I raised my kids ad plowed th' hills. I'm just and honest man. I don't skip debts." (Stuart 84). At the start, Pa finds that it's unjust for Professor Herbert to hold Dave after school since he's poor. He becomes so outraged that Dave comes home late that he brings a gun to school. But towards the end of the story he realizes how good education ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the start of "Split Cherry Tree" Pa is an uneducated man who doesn't understand the importance of education. That can be showed when he says ""this ain't no high school. It's a bug school, a lizard school, a snake school... a bullet can come out'n that hole that will kill a school teacher same as it will with any other man." It is exemplified here that during this quote Pa is so blinded by the debt that he is willing to bring a gun to school. He can't get past it and see the school is a place for learning. His lacks of common sense which causes him to think irrationally ultimately leading him to become a crazy farmer. However, this moment leads to the shift in which he realizes how important education really is. Similarly, in "Love" William can't accept the sudden disappearance, as shown in the text "Week after week passed, and the substitute teacher continued to sit at Miss Brown's desk... and we went on acting the way we had when Miss Brown was there because we didn't want her to come back and find we hadn't been nice to the substitute" (Maxwell Paragraph 9). Even after such a long time, William had hope that Miss Brown would return to her desk. He couldn't see that she was never coming back. • 19. Tree Thoughts Research Paper Tree Thoughts In the early 1950s when I was a tyke of five or six, in my backyard with no sand box or swing set, grew a cherry tree probably planted in the 1930s by our home's first owners. One of its major limbs had been sawed off. In spite of being an amputee, its remaining branches of dark green serrated leaves stretched to five or seven feet higher than the flat–roofed garage it stood next to. It produced an ample crop, maybe twenty–five quarts, of sour cherries which ripened rapidly in the middle of summer there in Canton, Ohio. Birds liked those red cherries as much as we did. More often than not we picked them before the robins began snacking on them. My mom had grown up on a farm about fifty miles east of Canton and knew how to bake a cherry pie. Starting from scratch, using lard or Crisco in her recipe, guaranteed her crust would be crisp and flaky. My parents grew up when canning fruits and vegetables was more the norm than not. Their generation valued thriftiness. As their first–born I was a shy, inquisitive child. My usual summer attire was blue jeans turned up three or four inches, and a colorful, striped tee–shirt. When I was older I was told, I acted grown–up because I had a serious air about me. Like trees, though, I thrived in the sunshine. After just a few minutes of being in the sun, ... Genji could feel his mouth go dry as all his thoughts seemed to screech to a halt. He didn't even remember the last time he walked among the great halls. He couldn't remember a time when he saw his people happy to see him or not trying to run in fear. He closed his eyes as he felt a surge ripple from his left shoulder. He looked over at McCree as the man gave him a comforting smile. "You going to be okay?" Jesse asked. "Yes. I should find a place to set up for a while and get ready. • 25. Western Front Symbolism In Erich Maria Remarque's All Quiet on the Western Front the protagonist, Paul Bäumer, along with five other German soldiers, tell their story of World War One and the physical, mental, and spiritual anguish that it caused them. Paul is a German soldier, fighting in the trenches, who is a nice, caring, and sympathetic man. However, the brutality of the war forces him to become emotionally detached, and as the story progresses, his outlook on life becomes grim and bleak. Through the use of Kenmerich's boots, nature, and women in the novel, it is seen that the author uses symbols to help the reader understand different aspects of war, as seen through the eyes of the characters. Firstly, Kemmerichs boots symbolize death, and the cheapness of life. Kemmerichs boots are described as high and supple. As the story progresses, they are passed from soldier to soldier. The author writes, "Müller can make good use of them. Kemmerich will die; it is immaterial who gets them." This quotation perfectly shows how cheap life is in times of war. Their friend is dying, and all they can talk about are who gets his boots. The novel is suggesting that a pair of boots is more important than a human life. Therefore, through the use of Kemmerichs boots, it is seen that the author uses the boots as a tool to represent how cheap life really is. Moreover, After the death of their dear friend Kemmerich, Müller inherited his boots. Even though Kemmerich is dead, Müller is happier than he had ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis Of Anton Chekhov 's ' The Cherry Orchard ' Ties that Bind In Russian writer Anton Chekhov's play, The Cherry Orchard, Chekhov tells the story of a family in crisis and instability at the beginning of the 20th century. The family is about to lose their beloved cherry tree orchard estate because they cannot pay the mortgage. The play, written in 1904, only one year before the first Russian Revolution (1905–1907), is a rendering of the social changes and reform that Russia was experiencing. Chekhov died in 1904 just months before the uprising called Bloody Sunday and was himself the grandson of an emancipated serf (Marks, n.d.) In The Cherry Orchard, there are no riots or raised and clenched fists, but it is a subtler reflection of the times, and the death and demise of the Russian aristocracy and the making of a middle class. However, post slavery or serfdom, the chains that bind humans are not always visible. The way Chekhov portrayed the former serfs in his play seems to whitewash reality and allow the audience to conveniently forget the past. Perhaps he did this with purpose. In American film and literature, we took the same tack until the latter part of the 20th century. In Chekhov's play and in America "the help" comes across as one of the family, free of the emotional pain of the past and are portrayed as happy and willing to serve. The emotional slavery represented in The Cherry Orchard is not limited to the former serfs but also includes the aristocracy and middle class as well. In modern times, Chekhov's ... • 35. I Have A Yong Suster When analyzing literature, context is important because different interpretations of the same piece can lead to very different meanings. The poem "I Have A Yong Suster" is a piece of Middle English poetry that can have several meanings depending on how it is read. Some say that the poem suggests a sexual relationship, while others say that it is an exchange between siblings. The narrator in this poem is sent three gifts that can have different meanings depending on who sent them. One interpretation identifies the sender as the narrator's sister, and it portrays themes of love and innocence. Another interpretation claims that the sender is a sweetheart or lover of the narrator, and in this interpretation, the poem represents courtship. "I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another important detail in this interpretation is the choice made by the author to make the sender of these gifts a young sibling. This could be an intentional decision to strengthen the connection between these specific gifts and young children. According to the Middle English Dictionary, however, "suster" can be translated as "spouse" or "lover". This interpretation gives the poem a sexual twist. The first gift, the cherry, is representative of a woman's virginity. The second gift, a dove, is typically a symbol of love. Also, they have been said to carry messages, such as the messages between the narrator and their lover. Additionally, the briar fits into the theme of nature symbols, and reproduction is a part of nature. The idea of the gifts being related to children also fits into this interpretation. The narrator notes late in the poem that "Whan the maiden hath that she loveth, / She is withoute longinge" (27–28). "Longinge" can be interpreted to mean longing, as in wishfulness, but it can also be read as longing, as in a sexual desire. This could mean that when a girl has the one she loves, her desire for love – in a possibly sexual manner – is sated. Reading the poem with the translation of "suster" as lover gives it a new twist and changes some of the meanings that can be interpreted from the poem. The meaning of lover carries on to modern songs such as "I Gave My Love A Cherry" by Carly Simon in 2007. This song is often ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For instance the simple way that they walk, sing, and move all mean something more. While doing the presentations on a Noh play I noticed something beautiful about the play that I had chosen. Spring was mentioned a lot, it had many cameos in the play. In Yuya the entire back story of the play is the discussions of going to see the cherry blossoms. Spring in Japan means a whole lot more than just another season. It means new life, and new beginnings, a way for family to come together and start anew. So while taking this course I really picked up on the seasonal aspect of Noh whether it be spring, autumn, summer, or winter. Each setting gave a new feeling of how people reacted, and it's true in real life also. So in this essay I will be discussing all of the seasons and what they mean in Japanese culture, with some symbolic things and Noh examples also. Spring also known as haru is the first of four seasons in Japan, from March to May. The significance of the cherry blossom tree in Japanese culture goes back hundreds of years. In their country, the cherry blossom represents the simplicity and the beauty of life. It just shows that even though life is sometimes wonderful and beautiful, it can also be very short and to always remember that we only have so long. Discussion This study showed that powdery mildew disease infection on sweet cherry fruits is effected by P. prunicola inoculum or conidial concentration. At least 500 conidia / ml was needed to develop significant fruit infection in cherry. Generally, disease incidence and disease severity increased in cherry fruits with increasing inoculum concentration. A positive relationship between inoculum concentration and disease development has also been demonstrated in the other powdery mildew species (Carisse, 2009; Van der Heyden et al., 2013). However, very high concentration may cause auto–inhibition of conidial germination as reported in other fungal pathogens (Leandro et al., 2003). Additional studies should be carried out to find out highest conidial concentration threshold for maximum cherry fruits disease incidence and severity. Orchard experiments of this study suggested that infection of cherry fruits by P. prunicola also depends on the development stage of fruits. Increased resistance to powdery mildew infection with maturing fruit has been reported in many powdery mildew – host fruit systems such as grapes (Gadoury et al., 2003), hop (Wolfenbarger et al., 2012), pears (Spotts, 1984), and apples (Russ and Blatter 1990). The early successional trees generally grow fast and have high reproduction rates, but don't live long and are shade intolerant. This group includes the birch family, black cherries, and white pines. As time passes, the forest closes in, and trees begin to die. As the early successional generation of trees die, the late successional group starts to grow and take over. This group has a slow growth rate and long lifespan and includes the American beech, the oaks, and the hemlock. Because of this succession, we develop two different types of forests, young growth and old growth forests. Young growth forests consist of many of the early–successional trees and have more trees overall, yet still tend to have less basal area, or the area taken up by the bases of the trees. Old growth forests, on the other hand, are formed almost completely by late–successional trees with the bases of the trees spaced further apart yet with more basal area. • 49. The Cherry Orchard By Anton Chekhov "The Cherry Orchard" is a drama which contains a hint of comedy that originates from the country of Russia, by way of the author Anton Chekhov. The drama is centered around Russia's popular form of slavery, which is the acquisition of a serf. Contrary to theatrical or modern conceptions of slavery, the contract between a serf and their owner could be dismissed on the grounds of buying your freedom. In correspondence with the history of Russia, Chekhov expands on the meaning of freedom by interpreting the influence of money, the radical change in social class, and the ability of the serfs to take control of their lives following their liberation. In order to systematically redeem the memory of the massive cherry orchard, Chekhov combines the orchards memory with the minds of individuals and expands on their connection to life beyond their memoires and the actions they take in the future. The Cherry Orchard's themes outline the influx of social power in connection to class variability, questions the opportunity of freedom, and elaborated on the irony of wealth. Social class in regards to Russia is represented by the usual upper, middle, and lower class system. Anton Chekhov observes the actions of the social class systems and portrays their qualities through characters and their connection to the cherry orchard. Following the abolition of serfdom in 1917, the emancipation of serfs opened a "floodgate" of pathways for serfs to chose from, which is in reference to their lives ... • 53. The Low Coefficient Of The Lichen Population Discussion: The overall variation of the mean moisture content of tree bark, and the mean distribution of the Lichen population in relation to the increasing height of the tree from the ground level is shown in Figure 1. It was observed that there is a remarkable reduction in the mean moisture content of the bark as the height of the tree increased. Hence there is a strong relationship between the mean moisture content and the tree height as supported by the high coefficient of determination value (R2 = 0.96136). The mean moisture content from the tree height of 0.50 metres to 1.00 metre has a percentage reduction of 18% (Refer to Appendix VI for equation), and this value increases to 24% from the tree height of 0.50 metres to 1.50 metres. Fielding (1952) on his research on Monterey pine trees, also found that some trees showed a progressive decrease in the moisture content, as the tree height increased. The reason for this maybe due to the fact that the lower parts of the trees have a closer proximity to the soil surface. In this location the organic matter content of the top layer of soil is relatively high due to seasonal tree leaves deposition of perennial trees and a good cover of grass surface, this creates a higher moisture retention of top soil therefore lower parts of the trees get more moisture contact. • 55. The Old Capital By Yasunari Kawabata In Yasunari Kawabata's book the old capital, there is a profounding amount of beauty which is described. One could even argue that the story of Chieko is of secondary importance to describing the beauty of Kyoto. In every part of the book there always seems to be a reference to nature and the seasons . In most instances, nature as well as the traditional Japanese festivals in the novel often symbolize the parallel of a new modernizing japan and the old traditional Japan. However, more importantly, the seasonal imagery parallels the story of Chieko herself and the moods she is feeling. It is no coincidence that kawabata's first chapter is called the flowers of spring while the last chapter is called winter flowers. As the title of the first chapter suggests, the beginning of the novel is filled with spring imagery. Spring in Japanese culture is an interesting time because it symbolizes new life. It's also the time of year that the cherry blossoms begin to bloom. This sense of new life is also somewhat portrayed in Chieko at this point in the book. Chieko has only just recently turned 20 and she is brimming with life, even if she does seem to have a few worries on her mind. Chieko's parents even say to Chieko that she was taken from her parents from a cherry blossom tree in Gion. Besides the cherry blossoms, there is one other flower that Chieko seems to take an interest in during the spring. Chieko describes the 2 violets which are attached to the maple tree in her garden ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

 • 57. Baron in the Trees Essay The book "The Baron in the Trees," by Italo Calvino is about the Baron Cosimo Piovasco di Rondò, or simply known as Cosimo, spent almost all of his life living up in the trees of Ombrosa after refusing to eat the disgusting plate of snails that his sister had made for the family dinner one night when he was twelve. Cosimo kept to his word "I'll never come down again!" (Calvino 13) and he never set foot on the ground again. Cosimo was not bound to one tree though; he was able to travel to many parts of Ombrosa by tree, and lead a very adventurous and full life. The main point of my essay is to discuss the ongoing relationship between Cosimo and the environment. Cosimo cared deeply for the environment in which he lived, and to get ... During the eighteenth century, due to the industrial revolution and the advent of steam power and other modern devices the once lush and plentiful trees of Italy had, were cut down in order to fuel the fires, create more power, and drive the revolution. In the closing paragraphs Biagio states "trees seem almost to have no right here since my brother left or since they have been swept by this frenzy for the ax." (Calvino 217) And that the arrival of the French and Napoleon's army, the chopping of the trees went on. There are very few forests left in Lombardy as they were described as in the book, if any. According to The Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia Lombardy is now "the chief commercial, industrial, and financial center in Italy, and Lombardy is the country's leading industrial region." This would explain why people decided to cut down the trees in order to help make way for the growing economy. Cosimo's relationship with the trees was not just a place to live, but more than that. He cared for the trees and protected them as much as he possibly could, as if he were defending a friend or family member. He and the Abbé constructed an irrigation system in order to put out the forest fires if they broke out. He also told the French army where they could build new roads, "Cosimo ... • 61. Chapter 25 the Grapes of Wrath THE SPRING IS BEAUTIFUL in California. Valleys in which the fruit blossoms are fragrant pink and white waters in a shallow sea. Then the first tendrils of the grapes swelling from the old gnarled vines, cascade down to cover the trunks. The full green hills are round and soft as breasts. And on the level vegetable lands are the mile–long rows of pale green lettuce and the spindly little cauliflowers, the gray–green unearthly artichoke plants. And then the leaves break out on the trees, and the petals drop from the fruit trees and carpet the earth with pink and white. Five dollars for forty fiftypound boxes; trees pruned and sprayed, orchards cultivated–pick the fruit, put it in boxes, load the trucks, deliver the fruit to the cannery–forty boxes for five dollars. We can 't do it. And the yellow fruit falls heavily to the ground and splashes on the ground. The yellowjackets dig into the soft meat, and there is a smell of ferment and rot. Then the grapes–we can 't make good wine. People can 't buy good wine. Rip the grapes from the vines, good grapes, rotten grapes, wasp–stung grapes. Press stems, press dirt and rot. But there 's mildew and formic acid in the vats. Add sulphur and tannic acid. The smell from the ferment is not the rich odor of wine, but the smell of decay and chemicals. Oh, well. It has alcohol in it, anyway. They can get drunk. The little farmers watched debt creep up on them like the tide. They sprayed the trees and sold no crop, they pruned and grafted and could not pick the crop. And the men of knowledge have worked, have considered, and the fruit is rotting on the ground, and the decaying mash in the wine vat is poisoning the air. • 63. A. Chekhov The Cherry Orchard is Russian playwright Anton Chekhov 's last play. It premiered at the Moscow Art Theatre 17 January 1904 in a production directed by Constantin Stanislavski. Chekhov intended this play as a comedy and it does contain some elements of farce; however, Stanislavski insisted on directing the play as a tragedy. Since this initial production, directors have had to contend with the dual nature of this play. The play concerns an aristocratic Russian woman and her family as they return to the family 's estate (which includes a large and well–known cherry orchard) just before it is auctioned to pay the mortgage. While presented with options to save the estate, the family essentially does nothing and the play ends with the estate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By October 1903 the play was finished and sent to the Moscow Art Theater. Three weeks later Chekhov arrived at rehearsals in what would be a vain attempt to curb all the "weepiness" from the play which Stanislavski had developed. The author apparently also snickered when, during rehearsals, the word "orchard" was replaced with the more practical "plantation", feeling he had perfectly and symbolically captured the impracticality of an entire way of life. My father is said to be a blinded scoundrel, he had been married once before. This tree means a lot to me too. It is where my friend, Roy, and I used to play. Perhaps a third of my charm comes from the ability to play, although that and modesty are probably what primarily hold his interest. The organ will never need another once the marriage commences. "Hattie!" my mother's voice calls, "Why don't you come in and make your father some tea." He needed me sometimes. The book, All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque proves that war is very destructive. The people we are looking at are Paul Baumer, Albert Kropp, and Detering. These people are brainwashed and are told that they are the "iron youth" and are coerced to join the army during World War I. Then they go into the war and see that war is not glorious, but see an ugly reality that is war. War is very destructive of physical places, emotionally, and can cause a loss of a generation, and this book shows this very well. War can be very destructive to the mental stability of people. An example of mental deterioration is that Paul sees that Detering is affected by the screams of the horses during the battle. Paul says, "We are pale. Detering stands up. 'God! For God's sake! Shoot them'" (Remarque 62). In this situation, Detering was yelling out giving away their location in the middle of a war zone because he was being driven insane from the horses screams. • 73. Climate Changes And Disruption : Climate Change And Ecosystem Climate Change and Ecosystem. Climate changes affect ecosystems by altering the water cycle, natural habitats and leading to the changes in food sources, animal migration and the timing of natural processes such as flowering. Disruption of the ecosystems increase the risk of extinction for many species. Animals and plants need to adapt to the environmental change on a fast and bigger scale which put great danger to those species. Changes that disrupt the functioning of ecosystems may increase the risk of harm or even extinction for some species. According to the National Audubon Society (2014), the winter center of abundance of the 305 north American bird species moved northward by over 40 miles between 1966 and 2013. This moving is closely related to the higher winter temperatures. Nearly 50 species moved northward over 200 miles. In 2016, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and Rutgers University studied the annual changes in latitude and depth of over 100 marine species along the northeast coast and in the eastern Bering Sea. They found that the center of bio¬mass of marine species shifted northward by 10 miles and moved 20 feet deeper if compare the data from 1982 and 2015. Climate change affects pheno¬logical events too. The timing of phenological events is closely related to climate, so it is used as an indicator for ecological processes. Two scientifically used reliable indicators are the first leaf dates and the first bloom dates of certain species. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A reddish–pink sky gradually fades into white, in turn transferring once more into the green hue of the ground. The middle ground of the piece shows twelve people on the other side of a fence and it appears as if they are going about their daily business. The middle ground also possesses several other plum trees, all of which seem in the beginnings of their bloom. Closest to the viewer, the focal point of the piece, stands the main Plum tree with its branches swinging from the left at sharp angles and moving to the right. Although most of the shapes appear flat, with limited shadows, the estate contains greater depth through an incorporation of proper scale, perspective, and overlapping qualities. Near the top of the piece small green and red rectangles add to the design, their locations in the upper right and lower left corners playing upon one another in a pleasing manner. The Cherry Orchard then was established as a classic in the 1950?s. It was recognized as a new type of drama due to the controversy of whether it was a comedy or drama. Anton Chekhov conceived The Cherry Orchard as a comedy but had trouble persuading people it was not a drama. The play fulfills all the conventional requirements of a classical and of a realist drama. It aligns the action with time, from hopeful spring to despairing autumn. It has a crux to the plot that remains unresolved until the end of the third act – Will the estate be sold or saved? It has couples who seem destined to be married, servants who fail to serve a heroine with both grave flaws and charisma. The Cherry Orchard can be read in many ways, as a conflict between hope and despair, between conflicting illusions, or nature and mankind. Above all, it can be read as an evocation of honest pessimism about the outcome of all these conflicts, with only a glimmer of hope and no false consolations.
