The Hunger Banquet Encourages Students
The Hunger Banquet enables students to shift into a new perspective and perceive how the largely
different economic standpoints are throughout our continents. The program provides insight on
distribution of wealth, it's relationship with general business, and brings ethical viewpoints into the
means of business. First, previous to taking any business classes, any knowledge regarding the
business environment and the different methods of economic systems were entirely basic. Residing
in countries such as the United States, most individuals grow to understand how a capitalistic (free
enterprise) economy works. However, much like myself, many other people who operate under
Capitalism do not have a full understanding of how other economic systems work, such as
communism and socialism. Communism, "a political system in which the government owns and
operates all factors of production" (Ebert, 2015, pg. 13), is a system in which I was unaware of the
government 's ability to control every single means of production within an economy. Also,
socialism, a planned economic system, was introduced to me through the learning of business.
Additionally, the role given to me sent me to a location on the floor, indicating I was living in
poverty. The character of my role had to sacrifice food for himself in order to provide for his family
who lived in an area of poverty. During my journey through the Hunger Banquet, I was surprised at
the surplus amounts of food that were wasted in the

Presentation Of A Banquet Server
It has been one year since I started to be a banquet server. The experience of working as a banquet
server has helped me to appreciate people hard work around the tables serving their clients without
complaining their exhaustion. According to Christa Titus, the author of "The Definition of a Banquet
Server," "A banquet server is a person who serves food and beverages to guests at an event." The
servers work at many special events such as graduation ceremony or wedding feast. Some of their
duties are serving the ordered dishes, cleaning up the leftovers and assisting guests with their menu
items. From my observation, this career is a low class job which pays a little amount of money for
the life expenses alone. The workers are paid by hour but the wages in each country are varied. I am
a student so my pocket is always empty, and in order to survive in the high cost city, I was desperate
to get an income. One of my friends suggested to me to go to the working board where the local
businesses' owner posted the news that they were accepting new workers. There were lots of
advertisements when I took a short look on the board but just one that attracted me: the beautiful
poster of a wedding dress looking for new servers. The poster explained about the available
weekend job with the telephone number and office address for the interview. I was more interested
on the poster than working as a banquet server but in the end, I applied for the job because I need
the money to pay my

Roman Banquets
Many banquets were held all throughout Rome and Greece, and they served as many private and
public functions. They were either given by the state, or by the officials. They usually had civic,
religious, or political purposes, and these banquets allowed the upper class to exchange different
ideas along with display their own wealth. The Greek banquets were sponsored by various
organizations to which their citizens belonged: philosophical societies, religious groups, and
community organizations. The banquets were held time to time for special occasions and holidays.
These banquets helped unify the organizations, and they also reinforced the social order by
reminding each man the place he takes in the large community. Governments occasionally ... Show

Often, wealthy individuals gave banquets for anyone who attended or participated in the funeral of a
relative who had died. This practice began as a way of honoring the memory of the deceased. Over
time, the wealthy Romans started to serve banquets, in order to gain favor of others. Generals,
politicians seeking office, and others eager to win popular support also adopted the custom of giving
public banquets. In 27 B.C.E., the emperor Augustus banned public banquets, except those given by
himself. He hoped, in this way, to keep others from winning the affection and support of the Roman
populace. Like the Greeks, the Romans reclined on couches while banqueting. Although, in the
Roman context, respectable women were permitted to join men in reclining. The females that
attended were restricted to entertain, unlike the Greek women. A dining room typically held three
broad couches, each couch seating three individuals, thus allowing for a total of nine guests. This
type of room is commonly described as a triclinium, meaning a three–couch room. The couches
weee usually made of wood, but they were sometimes made of gold and ivory. In a triclinium, the
couches were arranged along three walls of the room in a U–shape. At the center of the room, there
was a single table that was accessible to all of the diners. A proper Roman dinner included three
courses: the hors d'oeuvres (gustatio), the main course (mensae primae), and the dessert (mensae

Parable Of The Great Banquet By Luke 14
In Luke 14, "The Parable of the Great Banquet" tells the story of a man who held a great banquet
and invited a large number of people to come and join his table. Upon the first round of invitations,
many of the upper–class citizens came up with an excuse to not join him at his banquet. He then
decided to invite all of the poor and less fortunate citizens so that his table would be filled. After he
put in an enormous amount of work planning the event, he was angered to find out that many of the
people he thought highly of did not feel the same. This story taught us that in order to gain the gifts
that God has to offer we must first have a relationship with him. All of the people who denied the
invitation to the banquet missed out on the opportunity

The Cult You 're By Kalle Lasn
The phenomenon of consumerism is quiet powerful due to the impact on individual's lives. Society
has come to the point, happiness is associated with consumption. However, the way consumerism
works, is if the items being purchased gives temporary happiness. There individuals are always
buying the latest products to remain happy. In the text, "The Cult you're in" Kalle Lasn, discusses a
cult–like nature of consumer culture on Americans. Lasn uses the work 'cult' as a metaphor; he does
not mean an actual cult but American consumers seem to be in a cult–like nature. The ideal example
of Lasns argument is the text, "The man behind Abercrombie and Fitch", Benoit Denizet–Lewis,
goes in great depth of the life of the CEO, Mike Jeffries, of ... Show more content on

Denizet–Lewis states, "Jeffries obsession with building brands began when he was five. He grew up
in Los Angeles, where his father owned a chain of party supple stores for which a young Jeffries
liked to organize and design windows and counters (369)". Since Jeffries was a child, he wanted to
build brands to attract more people into the consumer cult. However, Jeffries wanted to be a type of
leader, to attract people as customers by marketing and branding practices. Lasn quote is an example
of the consumer and Denizet–Lewis's quote is an example of Jeffrey wanting to be a leader to attract
consumers. However being a consumer or a leader as is displayed in the quotes above, begins before
one is even conscious about it.
Teenage years are some of the toughest years a person may go through, on account of it being all
about the mindset and trying to fit in. The teen years or rebel years, is usually spent in the mall with
friends with the endeavor to get away with stealing, drinking or doing drugs by the authorities.
Basically, doing such acts that one knows is forbidden, however if you get away with it, gives you a
feeling of having great power over authority figures. Lasn states, "One day you act drunk and trick
them into "arresting" you– only this time it actually is soda in the can. You are immensely pleased
with yourself (379)". In the rebellious years, getting the authorities to believe one accomplished
something bad, gives this feeling,

Lucretius Banquet Argument
People have many different perspectives on death, however, the majority of people fear death as a
result of not knowing what's to come after or the notion that death is evil. Lucretius argues against
this belief with compelling and reasonable points. He states that one should not be afraid or sad that
they are going to die, but rather not think about it at all. In his banquet argument, he states that one
should not spend his life thinking about death in sorrow, but rather not think about it at all and live
in the moment. By doing this, you will erase all the negative thoughts and allow yourself to enjoy
what life has to offer; "Now put aside all thoughts that are unseemingly for your grey head.....leave
with your heart light."(M&TS,101). Lucretius also talks about being grateful that you get to
experience the joy of life. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If life has been good, then why should you beg it to go on like a greedy and ungrateful guest. He
states, "Come along, make room for others..."(M&TS,101), in other words, the old must make room
for the young, and so on. Lucretius' conclusion is that fearing death is irrational. Why should we fear
death when we will become no more. We will no longer be affected by anything or anyone, and we
will no longer be concerned about what occurs in the future. In simpler terms, in order for
something to hurt you, you must exist at the same time as the thing. When you are dead, you don't
exist anymore. Thus, death can't hurt you. Furthermore, death is inevitable. It's just another part of
life that should not be feared but

Administration In Public Administration
Cohen's contention concentrates on the difficulties that are confronted in the administration of open
merchandise and deliverance of administrations to the general population. He likewise examines the
best devices to use in taking care of the issue. The contention likewise infers the need to utilize
gifted open administrators that will be compelling in their assignments through innovativeness and
development. These new thoughts are intended to take care of the issue with the administration in
the twentieth century. Alternate attributes laid out by Cohen about people in general directors are the
capacity to think basically and shape occasions. The motivation behind why Cohen incorporates this
contention is that in the current past, open administrators have been liable to the occasions
happening around the general population comforts. They have not possessed the capacity to control
these occasions and in the most cases, occasions tend to assume control over the control. He
likewise contends that the picture of the general population administrators is portrayed on their
ability. Cohen closes the contentions by investigating the certainty of general society supervisors
and how it is vital in taking care of the issues that they confront in their exercises. Cohen bases this
contention with the Vietnam War (Cohen, 2013). The open administration is the primary part of any
legislature. The skill of an administration can be utilized as a measure to evaluate how powerful the
legislature is in broad daylight administration issues. At the point when the legislature is steady, it is
then less demanding to react to the necessities of general society. Soundness of the administration

that the level of defilement is exceptionally diminished guaranteeing no theft of assets by legislators.
This consequently enhances the economy of the nation by procuring its income. Political pioneers

Banquet Scene In Macbeth
It was also a very risky but appropriate play to show Taiwan audiences at the time as it made
political comments on Taiwan's recent history as a political leader called Chiang Kai–shek's tried to
take over Taiwan, the parallels are quite evident. Chiang Kai–shek was a military and political
leader who joined the Chinese Nationalists Party in 1918, known as KMT. The people of Taiwan
were under control of the KMT military forces and Chiang was the cause of hundreds of bloody and
violent deaths. In order for Chiang, not unlike Macbeth, he wanted to keep control of his totalitarian
regime so there was a massacre, riots and a famine, they ruled for over 40 years. KMT were still at
war with the mainland communists so they enacted the Mobilization ... Show more content on

The scene was set with fog with blue and purple tones with her weary high pitched voice coming
from the unknown at first, ultimately holds our attention in suspense. It was visually haunting as she
looked like a corpse in rags. Another thing I noticed in the banquet scene a female performer comes
in to entertain Macbeth and does a dance with a mask. Throughout the dance she is holding two
other masks and "alternately covers her face with them as she swirls, bends and crosses the stage."
The masks change with such fluidity you would hardly notice, even the type of masks and the
character they express; happy, fearful and angry. For me she was almost telling Macbeths prophecy.
All of the elements of this production made it a "continuous seamless, ever growing, rhythmic
sweep" , especially the final scene when Au Shu is up on his perch telling his soldiers they cannot
lose as the prophet told him so, unless the forest moves. It was then that his own soldiers' fire arrows

view. It was incredible and symbolized his fall from grace. His own soldiers took Macbeths head
and brought it to the rebel army to save themselves as they could see Macbeth had gone mad. It was
certainly a tragedy, from start to finish the "psychological and emotional values were apparent."
Even though the play was in Taiwanese and the subtitles were simple English the two different
styles blended together so nicely that the relationship, goals, the guilt and fear then the demise of the
Macbeths was created with such an

The Hunger Banquet was a unique experience that I believe that everyone should experience at least

started with someone letting us choose a ticket at random and depending on what color you got was
the class that you would be "born" into for the day. Then depending on the color of ticket you where
sat in the upper, middle or lower class. The upper class got to have a well balance meal consisting of
salad, bread, ice tea, water, mixed vegetables, lasagna, and cake for their lunch. The middle class got
two pieces of pizza and lemonade. The lower class was given rice and beans with water. In the lower
class the men must have their meal and drink served

What Is The Mood Of The Banquet By Rene Magritte
In this painting, The Banquet (1958) made in oil on canvas, we can see a beautiful, but the
unfamiliar landscape with a strange red circle in the middle of the painting. This artwork was
painted by Rene Magritte with a very realistic color palette. It seems like painted with reference to
real objects: there are red, orange, blue, green, dark green, black, beige, and gray in this landscape.
In the foreground of the artwork, there is a stone wall with a stone vase. A group of trees stands on
the back of the wall, then a line and then a field of trees. The sky is covered with several tones of
red. Dark red color was used on each side of the painting, and lighter colors appear in the middle. In
the center of the painting is a red or orange circle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Magritte was influenced by Romanticism and created a Surrealist art movement in Belgium. He
regarded all of art things important, and especially interested in the poetry. Through his painting, he
created the poetic imagery that can be called his own Surrealistic style. Magritte's painting induces
viewers to upend conventional thinking. "Magritte spoke of this 'determination to make the most
familiar objects scream aloud': the more familiar the object, the louder it would scream when
divorced from its habitat, seen in a new light" (qtd. in Calvocoressi 6). His painting seems to be
describing real objects, but the sense of the strange and quizzical appears when these real objects in
the background appear in the foreground, or vice versa. Either the sun appears impossibly before the
trees, on there is a hole in the forest framing the sun. This is a very different style of art, compared
with other art movements like Realism. He challenged himself to think outside of the box and
change other artist's ideas about seeing and making. Magritte's major contribution to painting is how
he defamiliarizes everyday

Banquet At Dunsinane
Banquet at Dunsinane
In Macbeth the scene of the banquet at Dunsinane shows the guilt of Macbeth, reveals to us the
extent of his madness and marks the suspicion of the Scottish lords. Macbeth shows the audience the
extent of his insanity, rouses suspicion from the Scottish lords and contributes to the overarching
theme of guilt. Macbeth's constant shouting at the apparition shows how far gone he is. It marks his
lack of self control in the face of his guilt, his fear of being discovered and refusal to come to terms
with what he has done. Likewise the lords see this outburst and are clued into Macbeth's usurping of
power by his blaming of others, he makes himself suspicious and tells them of his murdering
Banquo. Macbeth's quilt here develops a theme of guilt in the play
Macbeth shows the Scottish lords that he has bodies in his closet by the way he speaks making
reference to haunting spirits, trying to shift the blame of his actions onto others and by referencing
the murders he has made. In many religions the soul of a body lives on after death and continues the
life of the person, Macbeth possibly believing this in his fit of anger at the apparition infront of him
says "... Our monuments/ shall be the maw of Kites" Shakespeare.III.iv.120–121. Kites meaning
vultures, scavenge for food by eating dead bodies. An unprotected corpse could be eaten by them
and thus the soul would die. Macbeth is haunted by the soul of Banquo, which he would have reason
to be haunted by.

The concept of a hunger banquet is to provide awareness of global hunger and poverty to the
privileged by making the wealth disparity among different social classes visible and how it affects
their daily life including meals. Our overall purpose of this experiment was to show the class how
subsidies correlate with poverty and hunger. Throughout our investigation we analyzed the reaction
and behaviors of our peers when peers to class differences, the Nixon deficiency payment program,
and international policy in regards to the WTO and commodity dumping. In our experiment, we

The Hunger Banquet Relevant: High-Class
The hunger banquet yesterday was very enjoyable. It showcased how different people survived with
different food limits. High–class people, of whom make up 20% of the world's population, make
over $8,000 a year and are able to eat nutritious meals daily. Thirty percent of humans are middle–
class, making anywhere between $8,000 and $2,000 a year. They live not too awfully, but are on the
edge of being poor. For example, if a flood were to happen and wash away someone's crops, they
would become a low–class person. This poor class of people populate over half of the world, and
they make under $2,000 a year and can hardly sustain themselves. My experience of this food
banquet was great. I was one of the two people who picked a high–class card, so

Similarities And Differences Of Banquets In The...

Have you ever wondered how banquets from the Elizabethan Era are similar and different from
today's era? Everyday life in the Elizabethan Era was amazing; however, banquets and inventions
were the same as how we live today. This paper will explain the different events and similarities and
differences from now and the Elizabethan Era .
In the Elizabethan Era there were many big feasts and festivals. Some feasts were for the queen and
many other royals' .These banquets and feast were very different from today. The average family in
the 21st century eats one meal; however in the Elizabethan Era people ate five different course

In Elizabethan Era their audiences in their theater were filled like some of our movie theaters today.
Their performances were mostly given in the afternoon. Except in this century people mostly go to
movies at night time. Their movies would last two or three hours just like today's theater.
At some of these theater shows in the Elizabethan Era there were many different artist. Queen
Elizabeth even made up some of the arts herself. Some of the artist that painted portraits of Queen
Elizabeth was Hans Holbein, and Nicholas Hillard. Hillard painted a mini portrait of Queen
Elizabeth in 1952. Hillard painted most of his portraits from Henry's courtiers .Most of these
paintings were brought before Queen Elizabeth at these banquets and feasts that were held. These
two artists got their ideas from the European Renaissance.
In the painting that Hillard painted in 1572, he painted Queen Elizabeth in a piece of clothing they
called a ruff. The Elizabethan Era clothing style is something you wouldn't see anyone wearing in
the 21st century. In the 2000s people wore jeans and shirts and casual jackets. In the Elizabethan Era
women wore gowns, corsets, and ruffs. Men wore doublets, breeches, and ruffs as

Addictions A Banquet In The Grave Summary
The book Addictions A Banquet in the Grave was very informative. I viewed the purpose of the
book as being for the author to share his beliefs about several things. He explained his belief about
how the Bible speaks about addictions, addresses the issue of addictions, the spiritual side of
addictions that get disregarded during counseling and how the bible is a really important tool to use
to address addictions. His book also gave me an overview of the spiritual realism of addictions.
Moreover, the book is divided into two parts. Part one of the book was a theological viewpoint. For
example, Jim's story is one of the stories used to help the reader understand the nature of addiction.
Jim struggled with his alcohol addiction. He had been sober for years and he mentioned how he is
angry at God because of his alcohol addiction. He compared himself to most people whom he stated

However, Jim was considered to be well educated in biblical theology. It was identified that Jim
operates out of two contrary systems and he does not know what to believe. His struggles are with
temptations. Furthermore explained was how looking to scripture was something we did and since
the psychotherapeutic of the 1960's the Christian community looks to secular psychotherapies for
guidance of how to live successfully. Welch, struggles with the thought of addiction being a sin,
sickness, or both. While reading the book Welch opens up the door for us to view the problem of
addiction differently. While I was reading the book I started falling into the thought that he wanted
us to review treating addiction through a different lens such as the lens of scripture. For example,
Welch mentions that when our desires are conflicting to with scripture, human beings do not always
live according to our

The Revolt Of Mother By Mary E. Wilkins
Even in the 21st century, there is still a lingering idea that women strictly belong in the home. This
can be attributed to both the continuous, though evolved, embrace of the Cult of Domesticity and
natural law. In the eighteenth century the Cult of Domesticity was embraced and challenged by
many women, as it is today. "The Revolt of Mother" by Mary E. Wilkins Freeman is a literary
example that reinforces the idea of the Cult of Domesticity by showing the reader the boundaries
between genders and the power, however limited, that a woman has. In contrast, Kate Chopin's "The
Story of An Hour", shows the constraints that gender roles put on a woman. Chopin's story
challenges the Cult of Domesticity by using the character's internal dialogue to show that this was
not the life she pictured. The Cult of Domesticity can be tied to other themes, such as the burden of
motherhood, as in "I Stand Here Ironing" by Tillie Olsen. The home and the children were all under
control of the woman of the house, and though it sometimes feels like a burden, it is the woman's
obligation. Olsen did not fully accept nor fully condemn the Cult of Domesticity; she simply
presented it as the way of life. By using the main character's internal monologues and their actions
to control, or not control, their domains, each of these authors presents their view on the Cult of
Domesticity. Wilkin's story, "The Revolt of Mother" is often misinterpreted by modern readers.
Mother is not challenging her role as

Banquet Scene In The Odyssey
The Iliad is the quintessential epic. It is full with gods, goddesses, heroes, war, honor, glory, and the
like. However, for just short while near the very conclusion Homer avoids all of those epic qualities.
The banquet scene in Book XXIV is the most touching, the most "human" scene in the entire poem .
In the midst of the dreadful gulf of war and anger there occurs an intimate moment between two
men who ironically have much in common below the surface.
Priam, old and fragile, makes his way to the camp of the enemy's greatest warrior late at night. He
bears what little treasures have not been exhausted by the ten–year conflict and plans to plead for
the rightful return of his son's body. This is his final heroic endeavor. And perhaps, ... Show more

He calls upon his attendants to remove Priam's gifts from the wagon and prepare Hektor's body so
that his mournful father may carry him home. But extraordinarily when the body has been washed
and wrapped it is Achilles himself that embraces Hektor up and places him in the wagon. At the
same time he is embracing his own inevitable fate.
Upon returning Achilles invites Priam to join him for supper and reminds him that, mournful as they
may be, they must remember to eat. Neither has eaten in days but now it is as if a great weight has
been lifted from each man's heart and a strange healing power has surfaced. Finally relieved, they
are able to satisfy one of their basic human needs. Again, Achilles assumes the role of the elder of
the two and shares with the old king a story to support his decision to have supper. Again, though he
has accepted his death it seems as though Achilles is buying himself a little more time.
"But when they had put aside their desire for eating and drinking," Priam gazes at Achilles in
wonder. In him he sees godlike qualities and he is reminded of his own heroic son. This is again a
bizarre occurrence taking into consideration that Achilles has the killed so many of his children.
Perhaps Priam accepts those deaths as an element of the war and doesn't see Achilles exclusively as
a killer. If this is so than Priam's kind heart and ability to

wind pushing hard against my face with the sound of thunder crackling all around me. Beatrice and I
struggling to get up we hurried to our carriage and quickly took refuge, with our clothes wet and
damp we waited for the unforgiving rain to end. With much luck the horrific storm lasted for only a
couple more minutes which was a huge relief but had made us fallen behind schedule. We step out
of the carriage soaking wet as we hurried to change and quickly continued with no time to spare.
Hungry we were Beatrice and I decided that we should stop by an inn hoping to find some food
though we have been riding for so long that we don't know for sure if we were travelling in the right
direction relying on my experience we went on. Beatrice than asked me "sweetie are you sure this is
the right way we been travelling for so long, the feast starts tomorrow evening and we need to be
there by tonight" , I replied " I'm pretty sure this is the way don't give your hopes up we'll make it

His simplification of the menu and emphasis on wines were major elements in the development of a
style of banqueting that prevailed over the next 165 years of White House functions. During the
presidency of John Kennedy, banquets were enhanced by the contributions of Jacqueline Kennedy.
Like Jefferson, Mrs Kennedy preferred menus of simple elegance that concentrated on a high quality
of food and service. The records tracing the development of the banquet menu throughout the
centuries provide a rich and exciting chronicle of food items, recipes, and traditions. Many of these
food items and recipes endure in our contemporary food customs. Today in the UK, banquets serve
many purposes from training sessions, to formal business dinners. Business banquets are a popular
way to strengthen bonds between businessmen and their partners. It is common that a banquet is
organized at the end of an academic conference. A luau is one variety of banquets originally used in

My Life After The Athletic Banquet
The day after the Athletic Banquet brought with it puffy eyes from crying myself to sleep. As hard
as I tried, I could not seem to escape my pity party or shake the feelings of disappointment. I
enjoyed participating in sports. Every day, my heart and soul laid on the court, along with my best
effort and sportsmanship, but I understood that athletics wouldn't take me anywhere past high
school. Reason and theoretical thinking kept me from being serious about section and state
competitions, and for that reason, as well as my lack of athleticism, I seldom received playing time,
especially on varsity. Instead I discovered myself on the junior varsity team most years, and
although most students and coaches viewed me as "not good enough," I would not allow myself to
look through that lens. In my mind, JV was an opportunity. Naturally a leader, I sought to lead the
younger girls, not necessarily to scoring victories, but ones developed outside the gym; I yearned to
shape the younger athletes into better people. Determined to make my dream a reality, I blocked out
the voice that reiterated, "Alli, you deserve to be on varsity. You have been here longer than those
other girls, you are talented, you have a better attitude, fight for that spot." That voice could have
killed me, but I set my eyes on the goal and was determined to reach it. By the end of the season,
our team set a record of eighteen wins and six loses, but that wasn 't what made the season worth it.
That season gave me

Lopburi Monkey Banquet Essay
Enjoy One of Thailand's Most Unusual Festivals: Lopburi Monkey Banquet!
The yearly Monkey Banquet, held on the last Sunday of November, takes place in the central Thai
province of Lopburi.
Whilst monkeys roam freely around the old part of town all throughout the year, this special day is
dedicated entirely to the mischievous and cheeky macaques. A sight to behold, join in with monkey–
related games and activities, shop for monkey–themed goodies, watch in amazement as the
macaques descend on huge tables laden with food and drinks, gaze with a mixture of fascination and
bemusement at the enormous monkey statues, and, overall, be a part of something truly unique!

Despite the myths and legends surrounding the Lopburi monkeys, the Monkey Banquet is a fairly
new festival, having begun in 2007. Sponsored by the Lopburi Inn Hotel, the festival is to pay
respects to the Monkey God and all monkeys in general, thank the local monkeys for bringing
prosperity to the town, and also to draw in tourists.
Monkey mayhem!
Food for the Monkey Banquet is donated by local individuals and businesses with the belief that it
will further their good fortunes.
Fresh fruit and vegetables, nuts, seeds, boiled eggs, bottles of water, and even cartons and cans of
juice are offered to the monkeys. Used to stealing from innocent passers–by, the dexterous creatures
have no problems at all opening containers!
The veritable feast is lovingly set out on big tables ready for the party to begin. The monkeys grab,
shove, snatch, and clamber their way to get to their favourites, crudely tossing what they don't fancy
on the floor. Plates are overturned, food is gobbled, drinks are gulped and spilled, and the monkeys
enjoy the feeling of a really full belly!

William Faulkner 's Banquet Speech
American Truths
From generation to generation, literature has defined our lives. Together, all of us read to gain
information, become aware and think about the bigger pictures in life. During William Faulkner's
banquet speech for his Nobel Prize in literature, Faulkner discusses the "writer 's duty." Faulkner
states that writing should be from the heart, about the anguish, agony and sweat of the human spirit.
If one does not write from the heart, mankind cannot prevail. Throughout Hillbilly Elegy by J.D.
Vance and American Childhood by Annie Dillard, both memoirs recount the events of the writer's
life with universal truths in similar and different ways. Is Faulkner right in stating that writing
should be from the heart? Or can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During her youth, Dillard was scolded by her mother for calling her maid, who was African
American, a racist term that she found out from a neighbor. In today's society, including such
experiences can be deemed inappropriate for vocal use. However, using a vastly different time
period where racism was still a problem, Dillard is able to demonstrate a time where not everyone
had equal rights. She is bringing awareness to an issue that still plagues our society today in
incidents like the Black Lives Matter movement. These universal truths should be shared as
Faulkner claimed as they can pave the way to a more informed society.
Often in memoirs, the writer will mention the losses they have experienced in their lives that have
impacted them greatly. They can choose to modify how the stories are to "sugarcoat" the loss or can
even leave it out completely if the experience proves to be too traumatizing to the writer. However,
the inclusion of these losses can provide comfort and a better understanding of losses the reader may
have had in their lives. In American Childhood, Annie Dillard loses her grandfather to a brain tumor.
She states "I was expecting to attend an upper–school dance at the boy's school... ...I shamed myself
by minding that the dance was out [due to the death of my grandfather]" (174). Although mentioned
shortly, Dillard expresses guilt over not showing any care to her grandfather's death. While he lay
there dying, Dillard was more

Catcher in the Rye Theme Essay
"Catcher in the Rye" written by J.D. Salinger, is a novel in which the author creates much irony in
the way he presents the loss of innocence or the fall from innocence in his main character, Holden
Caulfield. While Holden clearly believes in protecting the innocence of children in society, he
himself cannot seem to hang onto his own innocence. Throughout the novel Holden shows his love
and protection for childhood innocence, the irony that he in fact himself may be losing his own
childhood innocence mainly due to the responsibilities which he has taken on, and also shows that

Film Analysis Of The Art Film 'The Wedding Banquet'
Art Film: The Wedding Banquet
The wedding banquet is a film which is based around the life of a Chinese born man Wai–Tung Gao,
a very successful property developer in New York. Wai–Tung hides the fact that he is a homosexual
from his parents who live in China because it is seen as a dishonourable characteristic to have. He
must find himself a fake wife to trick his parents into believing that he is a straight man who they
can be proud of, he eventually chooses one of his tenants called Wei Wei after trying to find the
perfect wife through applications and changes who she is in order to impress his parents, Wai–Tung
must do this whilst at the same time trying to maintain his relationship with his boyfriend, Simon.
The father of Wai–Tung knows about the relationship between his son and Simon, this scene can be
found at 1:35:28 to 1:36:58 of the wedding banquet. The wedding banquet aims to show how
perception of sexual orientation can effect different people of different nationalities and how society
looks at people of a different sexual orientation.
The scene which holds a lot of power in 'The Wedding Banquet' is the scene in which Mr. Gao and
Simon are speaking to each other overlooking some kind of a pier. It is in this part of the film that
Simon realises that Mr. Gao can speak English which is a huge surprise for Simon as he had spent
some of the film trying to speak Chinese to Wai–Tung's parents and trying to be polite to them most
likely in hopes that they would

Symbolism In The Blue Banquet By Octavio Boquet
Throughout The Blue Banquet, symbolism through both literal and figurative usage for eyes to
demonstrate perspective and understanding of a situation. Since eyes are not just a literal
representation of how we see things, but, a metaphorical portrayal on other's perspectives and their
outlook of the world. The unique characteristics of what eyes can both metaphorically and literally
represent can be strongly demonstrated throughout the short story, the author, Octavio Paz, uses the
motif of sight to interpret the world, from the perspective of the characters. The Blue Bouquet uses
literal imagery through the description of colour, which is associated with the unintentional
appreciation of sight from the protagonist. This is portrayed within ... Show more content on

The stranger is in love–struck desperation for blue eyes, and specifically blue eyes. Since the origin
of blue eyes evolved from European nations, this suggests a contradiction between the author and
certain European ideologies. Since the short story was written during 1949, right after the Second
World War, possibly suggesting Octavio's haste towards the Eurocentric worldview during the era.
Even the first three colours mentioned, being red, yellow, and gray, roughly being the colours of the
German flag, the Germans being a fascist nation during the era the short story was written. Within
the context of the story, the stranger isn't opposed to the the worldview, rather he's hypnotised by
love to get himself involved with something he doesn't fully understand. The protagonist, who is
strongly believed to be blue–eyed may be assumed to be associated with the ideologies of other
individuals with blue eyes, creating a stereotype. The author may be trying to raise awareness of the
negative fallouts associated with stereotypes, since concepts like this appear within our everyday life
through racism or sexism, such as stereotypes regarding african–american decent and theft. The
protagonist identifies that, and may fear that he falls under the stereotype of blue eyes, where the

The Dichotomy Of Wei-Tung's 'The Wedding Banquet'
"The Wedding Banquet" mightily explores the dichotomy between Wei–Tung's parent's traditional
Asian mindset and his way of thinking that ultimately causes them to come into conflicts due to a
clash in tradition. His parents esteemed conformity and precedence while he commanded personal
freedom regarding his sexual orientation. Just as Wei–Tung believed that he has lived a life that is
entirely pleasing, he received a phone call with mounting urgency by his parents to marry a Chinese
girl and present them with a grandchild. Wei–Tung could not bring himself to inform his parents that

It is widely seen as a pillar of Chinese family structure. It is defined as a virtue of respect and
obedience for one's parents and elders. In the traditional Chinese culture, bearing children is not
only for the sake of the couple. Presenting a grandchild to one's parents is believed to be a vital
family duty that every child should be able to accomplish. While Wei–Tung was certainly respectful
of his parents and was constantly looking after their health and well–being while they were in New
York, he was undeniably disinclined to sacrifice his relationship with Simon in order to satisfy his
parents' craving for a grandchild. As his parents' traditional views locked horn with Wei–Tung's
reluctance to cave in, something got to give and an accidental pregnancy by Wei–Wei turned the tide
into the parents' favor, although this was ultimately the key to Wei–Tung reconciling the whole
conflicts. At the end of the day, the movie aptly brings to light the conflict of tradition, motivated by
the idea of filial piety, between members of the older generation who have plausibly different
outlooks from their contemporary, Americanized

The Banquet Scene In The Iliad
The Iliad is the quintessential epic. It is full with gods, goddesses, heroes, war, honor, glory, and the
like. However, for just short while near the very conclusion Homer avoids all of those epic qualities.
The banquet scene in Book XXIV is the most touching, the most "human" scene in the entire poem .
In the midst of the dreadful gulf of war and anger there occurs an intimate moment between two
men who ironically have much in common below the surface.
Priam, old and fragile, makes his way to the camp of the enemy 's greatest warrior late at night. He
bears what little treasures have not been exhausted by the ten–year conflict and plans to plead for
the rightful return of his son 's body. This is his final heroic endeavor. And ... Show more content on

Recall in Book III his kindliness towards Helen. This perception of Achilles as a vision of Hektor is
also a reaction to Achilles ' his newly developed warmth and tenderness. And in fact, not
overlooking what Achilles has done, Priam cannot deny that he is a great strong warrior and has
brought much glory to the side of the Achaians.
By reaching out to Priam, Achilles, for a moment, brings these two bitterly warring nations into a
zone of peace.
. There is no pretty ending; Troy, we know, will soon be destroyed. The scene is uncompromisingly
tragic: Patroklos is dead, Hektor is dead, Priam will soon be killed, and Achilles will soon be killed.
Yet somehow, in the midst of suffering, moral beauty survives.
Though the human lot he portrays is grim, his actions show a human decency that somehow softens
our sense of what it means to be human
NOTE: Observe how the plot structure of the Iliad completes itself. In the first book, a father
(Chryses) comes to Agamemnon to plead for the return of his child but is refused. In the last book, a
father (Priam) also pleads to Achilles for the return of a child; this time pity is shown. Though this
symmetry is surely there, Homer is an artist who permits complexities and contradictions. As you
begin to sum up your feelings about the Iliad, test all the threads. The question is not simply is
Achilles right or wrong, or are the Trojans or Argives the real heroes. Homer values both

Parable Of The Wedding Banquet Essay
The Parable of the Wedding Banquet Short Analysis Throughout his ministry on earth, Jesus taught
a number of his lessons through parables, or short and simple stories used to explain a certain moral

were taught in a way that the common people could understand them. Some allude to the nature of
the Kingdom of God, while others teach people to treat others. The Parable of the Wedding Banquet,

The marriage as a whole represents the Kingdom of God. According to author Matthew Henry, "The
King is God, a great King, King of kings." (Henry p.1725). The marriage is for His Son, Jesus, with
the church as His bride (p.1725). The servants represent the early prophets and apostles, sent to
bring the invitation to the Kingdom to the Jews (Darby, Henry, Johnson).
The king, God, extends the first invitation to attend the Kingdom out to the Jews. The people invited
refuse to come, some even mistreating and killing the messengers. When the parable refers to the
destruction of the Jews when the king sends out his army to burn their city. The city, according to
Henry, refers to the destruction of Jerusalem, which is burned about forty years later (Henry
p.1726). Then, the invitation is extended to everyone, included the Gentiles (Darby, Henry,
Johnson). Everyone is now invited to enter the Kingdom of Heaven no matter their social status.
Though everyone is invited, Jesus warns against hypocrites. The garments that the guests wore
represent the righteousness of Christ (Wesley, Johnson). Those not clothed in this righteousness are
those "in the church who are false friends to Jesus Christ, who say that they love him while in their
hearts are not with him." (Henry p.1727). Jesus warns us against being hypocritical and to accept
Jesus as the Savior, lest we be

Synopsis Of The Summer Spring
Seasons
That time of year is here. The weather has begun to change from the blistering July heat, to the cool
evenings of September. There is no longer the need to flip channel after channel on the television to
find something to watch since it is finally football season. The vivid green leaves are beginning to
fade out and become different shades of brown, orange, and red. Leaves begin to fall from the
upmost branches of the tree and float their way down to the ground. Kids gather around to collect
the fallen leaves and jump into the enormous pile created by doing the chore of raking. Taste buds
begin to water as the thought of warm cider and sweet pumpkin pie comes into the picture. The
ladies begin to get out their favorite sweater, pair of jeans, and boots to wear out as the cooler nights
approach. While every season has its own sense of wonder, autumn is the best one of them all.
The paramount of this season is the plethora of activities that go on in a short amount of time. From
the end of August to November, you can almost catch every high school kid on a Friday night in a
stadium decked out in latest costume related to that game's student section theme. Whether it's a
tacky tourist uniform or your American patriot, you can always see an eye–catching outfit. After
their years of experience of high school football, the real test of dedication comes to the Saturday
games. Tailgating before the games is the excitement that brings everyone together. Leading into

  • 3. The Hunger Banquet Encourages Students The Hunger Banquet enables students to shift into a new perspective and perceive how the largely different economic standpoints are throughout our continents. The program provides insight on distribution of wealth, it's relationship with general business, and brings ethical viewpoints into the means of business. First, previous to taking any business classes, any knowledge regarding the business environment and the different methods of economic systems were entirely basic. Residing in countries such as the United States, most individuals grow to understand how a capitalistic (free enterprise) economy works. However, much like myself, many other people who operate under Capitalism do not have a full understanding of how other economic systems work, such as communism and socialism. Communism, "a political system in which the government owns and operates all factors of production" (Ebert, 2015, pg. 13), is a system in which I was unaware of the government 's ability to control every single means of production within an economy. Also, socialism, a planned economic system, was introduced to me through the learning of business. Additionally, the role given to me sent me to a location on the floor, indicating I was living in poverty. The character of my role had to sacrifice food for himself in order to provide for his family who lived in an area of poverty. During my journey through the Hunger Banquet, I was surprised at the surplus amounts of food that were wasted in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Presentation Of A Banquet Server It has been one year since I started to be a banquet server. The experience of working as a banquet server has helped me to appreciate people hard work around the tables serving their clients without complaining their exhaustion. According to Christa Titus, the author of "The Definition of a Banquet Server," "A banquet server is a person who serves food and beverages to guests at an event." The servers work at many special events such as graduation ceremony or wedding feast. Some of their duties are serving the ordered dishes, cleaning up the leftovers and assisting guests with their menu items. From my observation, this career is a low class job which pays a little amount of money for the life expenses alone. The workers are paid by hour but the wages in each country are varied. I am a student so my pocket is always empty, and in order to survive in the high cost city, I was desperate to get an income. One of my friends suggested to me to go to the working board where the local businesses' owner posted the news that they were accepting new workers. There were lots of advertisements when I took a short look on the board but just one that attracted me: the beautiful poster of a wedding dress looking for new servers. The poster explained about the available weekend job with the telephone number and office address for the interview. I was more interested on the poster than working as a banquet server but in the end, I applied for the job because I need the money to pay my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Roman Banquets Many banquets were held all throughout Rome and Greece, and they served as many private and public functions. They were either given by the state, or by the officials. They usually had civic, religious, or political purposes, and these banquets allowed the upper class to exchange different ideas along with display their own wealth. The Greek banquets were sponsored by various organizations to which their citizens belonged: philosophical societies, religious groups, and community organizations. The banquets were held time to time for special occasions and holidays. These banquets helped unify the organizations, and they also reinforced the social order by reminding each man the place he takes in the large community. Governments occasionally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Often, wealthy individuals gave banquets for anyone who attended or participated in the funeral of a relative who had died. This practice began as a way of honoring the memory of the deceased. Over time, the wealthy Romans started to serve banquets, in order to gain favor of others. Generals, politicians seeking office, and others eager to win popular support also adopted the custom of giving public banquets. In 27 B.C.E., the emperor Augustus banned public banquets, except those given by himself. He hoped, in this way, to keep others from winning the affection and support of the Roman populace. Like the Greeks, the Romans reclined on couches while banqueting. Although, in the Roman context, respectable women were permitted to join men in reclining. The females that attended were restricted to entertain, unlike the Greek women. A dining room typically held three broad couches, each couch seating three individuals, thus allowing for a total of nine guests. This type of room is commonly described as a triclinium, meaning a three–couch room. The couches weee usually made of wood, but they were sometimes made of gold and ivory. In a triclinium, the couches were arranged along three walls of the room in a U–shape. At the center of the room, there was a single table that was accessible to all of the diners. A proper Roman dinner included three courses: the hors d'oeuvres (gustatio), the main course (mensae primae), and the dessert (mensae ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Parable Of The Great Banquet By Luke 14 In Luke 14, "The Parable of the Great Banquet" tells the story of a man who held a great banquet and invited a large number of people to come and join his table. Upon the first round of invitations, many of the upper–class citizens came up with an excuse to not join him at his banquet. He then decided to invite all of the poor and less fortunate citizens so that his table would be filled. After he put in an enormous amount of work planning the event, he was angered to find out that many of the people he thought highly of did not feel the same. This story taught us that in order to gain the gifts that God has to offer we must first have a relationship with him. All of the people who denied the invitation to the banquet missed out on the opportunity ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. The Cult You 're By Kalle Lasn The phenomenon of consumerism is quiet powerful due to the impact on individual's lives. Society has come to the point, happiness is associated with consumption. However, the way consumerism works, is if the items being purchased gives temporary happiness. There individuals are always buying the latest products to remain happy. In the text, "The Cult you're in" Kalle Lasn, discusses a cult–like nature of consumer culture on Americans. Lasn uses the work 'cult' as a metaphor; he does not mean an actual cult but American consumers seem to be in a cult–like nature. The ideal example of Lasns argument is the text, "The man behind Abercrombie and Fitch", Benoit Denizet–Lewis, goes in great depth of the life of the CEO, Mike Jeffries, of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Denizet–Lewis states, "Jeffries obsession with building brands began when he was five. He grew up in Los Angeles, where his father owned a chain of party supple stores for which a young Jeffries liked to organize and design windows and counters (369)". Since Jeffries was a child, he wanted to build brands to attract more people into the consumer cult. However, Jeffries wanted to be a type of leader, to attract people as customers by marketing and branding practices. Lasn quote is an example of the consumer and Denizet–Lewis's quote is an example of Jeffrey wanting to be a leader to attract consumers. However being a consumer or a leader as is displayed in the quotes above, begins before one is even conscious about it. Teenage years are some of the toughest years a person may go through, on account of it being all about the mindset and trying to fit in. The teen years or rebel years, is usually spent in the mall with friends with the endeavor to get away with stealing, drinking or doing drugs by the authorities. Basically, doing such acts that one knows is forbidden, however if you get away with it, gives you a feeling of having great power over authority figures. Lasn states, "One day you act drunk and trick them into "arresting" you– only this time it actually is soda in the can. You are immensely pleased with yourself (379)". • 13. Lucretius Banquet Argument People have many different perspectives on death, however, the majority of people fear death as a result of not knowing what's to come after or the notion that death is evil. Lucretius argues against this belief with compelling and reasonable points. He states that one should not be afraid or sad that they are going to die, but rather not think about it at all. In his banquet argument, he states that one should not spend his life thinking about death in sorrow, but rather not think about it at all and live in the moment. Why should we fear death when we will become no more. We will no longer be affected by anything or anyone, and we will no longer be concerned about what occurs in the future. In simpler terms, in order for something to hurt you, you must exist at the same time as the thing. When you are dead, you don't exist anymore. Thus, death can't hurt you. Banquet Scene In Macbeth It was also a very risky but appropriate play to show Taiwan audiences at the time as it made political comments on Taiwan's recent history as a political leader called Chiang Kai–shek's tried to take over Taiwan, the parallels are quite evident. Chiang Kai–shek was a military and political leader who joined the Chinese Nationalists Party in 1918, known as KMT. The people of Taiwan were under control of the KMT military forces and Chiang was the cause of hundreds of bloody and violent deaths. In order for Chiang, not unlike Macbeth, he wanted to keep control of his totalitarian regime so there was a massacre, riots and a famine, they ruled for over 40 years. The scene was set with fog with blue and purple tones with her weary high pitched voice coming from the unknown at first, ultimately holds our attention in suspense. It was visually haunting as she looked like a corpse in rags. Another thing I noticed in the banquet scene a female performer comes in to entertain Macbeth and does a dance with a mask. Throughout the dance she is holding two other masks and "alternately covers her face with them as she swirls, bends and crosses the stage." The masks change with such fluidity you would hardly notice, even the type of masks and the character they express; happy, fearful and angry. For me she was almost telling Macbeths prophecy. All of the elements of this production made it a "continuous seamless, ever growing, rhythmic sweep" , especially the final scene when Au Shu is up on his perch telling his soldiers they cannot lose as the prophet told him so, unless the forest moves. It was then that his own soldiers' fire arrows at him creating a slow death with Au Shu doing a back flip from a raised level to stage level in full view. It was incredible and symbolized his fall from grace. His own soldiers took Macbeths head and brought it to the rebel army to save themselves as they could see Macbeth had gone mad. It was certainly a tragedy, from start to finish the "psychological and emotional values were apparent." Even though the play was in Taiwanese and the subtitles were simple English the two different styles blended together so nicely that the relationship, goals, the guilt and fear then the demise of the Macbeths was created with such an ... What Is The Mood Of The Banquet By Rene Magritte In this painting, The Banquet (1958) made in oil on canvas, we can see a beautiful, but the unfamiliar landscape with a strange red circle in the middle of the painting. This artwork was painted by Rene Magritte with a very realistic color palette. It seems like painted with reference to real objects: there are red, orange, blue, green, dark green, black, beige, and gray in this landscape. In the foreground of the artwork, there is a stone wall with a stone vase. A group of trees stands on the back of the wall, then a line and then a field of trees. The sky is covered with several tones of red. Dark red color was used on each side of the painting, and lighter colors appear in the middle. "Magritte spoke of this 'determination to make the most familiar objects scream aloud': the more familiar the object, the louder it would scream when divorced from its habitat, seen in a new light" (qtd. in Calvocoressi 6). His painting seems to be describing real objects, but the sense of the strange and quizzical appears when these real objects in the background appear in the foreground, or vice versa. Either the sun appears impossibly before the trees, on there is a hole in the forest framing the sun. This is a very different style of art, compared with other art movements like Realism. • 23. Banquet At Dunsinane Banquet at Dunsinane In Macbeth the scene of the banquet at Dunsinane shows the guilt of Macbeth, reveals to us the extent of his madness and marks the suspicion of the Scottish lords. Macbeth shows the audience the extent of his insanity, rouses suspicion from the Scottish lords and contributes to the overarching theme of guilt. Macbeth's constant shouting at the apparition shows how far gone he is. It marks his lack of self control in the face of his guilt, his fear of being discovered and refusal to come to terms with what he has done. Likewise the lords see this outburst and are clued into Macbeth's usurping of power by his blaming of others, he makes himself suspicious and tells them of his murdering Banquo. Macbeth's quilt here develops a theme of guilt in the play Macbeth shows the Scottish lords that he has bodies in his closet by the way he speaks making reference to haunting spirits, trying to shift the blame of his actions onto others and by referencing the murders he has made. In many religions the soul of a body lives on after death and continues the life of the person, Macbeth possibly believing this in his fit of anger at the apparition infront of him says "... Our monuments/ shall be the maw of Kites" Shakespeare.III.iv.120–121. Kites meaning vultures, scavenge for food by eating dead bodies. I viewed the purpose of the book as being for the author to share his beliefs about several things. He explained his belief about how the Bible speaks about addictions, addresses the issue of addictions, the spiritual side of addictions that get disregarded during counseling and how the bible is a really important tool to use to address addictions. His book also gave me an overview of the spiritual realism of addictions. Moreover, the book is divided into two parts. Part one of the book was a theological viewpoint. For example, Jim's story is one of the stories used to help the reader understand the nature of addiction. Jim struggled with his alcohol addiction. He had been sober for years and he mentioned how he is angry at God because of his alcohol addiction. He compared himself to most people whom he stated do not have to struggle to stay ... Welch, struggles with the thought of addiction being a sin, sickness, or both. While reading the book Welch opens up the door for us to view the problem of addiction differently. • 35. The Revolt Of Mother By Mary E. Wilkins Even in the 21st century, there is still a lingering idea that women strictly belong in the home. This can be attributed to both the continuous, though evolved, embrace of the Cult of Domesticity and natural law. In the eighteenth century the Cult of Domesticity was embraced and challenged by many women, as it is today. "The Revolt of Mother" by Mary E. Wilkins Freeman is a literary example that reinforces the idea of the Cult of Domesticity by showing the reader the boundaries between genders and the power, however limited, that a woman has. In contrast, Kate Chopin's "The Story of An Hour", shows the constraints that gender roles put on a woman. Chopin's story challenges the Cult of Domesticity by using the character's internal dialogue to show that this was not the life she pictured. The Cult of Domesticity can be tied to other themes, such as the burden of motherhood, as in "I Stand Here Ironing" by Tillie Olsen. The home and the children were all under control of the woman of the house, and though it sometimes feels like a burden, it is the woman's obligation. Olsen did not fully accept nor fully condemn the Cult of Domesticity; she simply presented it as the way of life. By using the main character's internal monologues and their actions to control, or not control, their domains, each of these authors presents their view on the Cult of Domesticity. Wilkin's story, "The Revolt of Mother" is often misinterpreted by modern readers. Mother is not challenging her role as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, for just short while near the very conclusion Homer avoids all of those epic qualities. The banquet scene in Book XXIV is the most touching, the most "human" scene in the entire poem . In the midst of the dreadful gulf of war and anger there occurs an intimate moment between two men who ironically have much in common below the surface. Priam, old and fragile, makes his way to the camp of the enemy's greatest warrior late at night. Upon returning Achilles invites Priam to join him for supper and reminds him that, mournful as they may be, they must remember to eat. Neither has eaten in days but now it is as if a great weight has been lifted from each man's heart and a strange healing power has surfaced. Finally relieved, they are able to satisfy one of their basic human needs. Again, Achilles assumes the role of the elder of the two and shares with the old king a story to support his decision to have supper. Again, though he has accepted his death it seems as though Achilles is buying himself a little more time. "But when they had put aside their desire for eating and drinking," Priam gazes at Achilles in wonder. In him he sees godlike qualities and he is reminded of his own heroic son. As hard as I tried, I could not seem to escape my pity party or shake the feelings of disappointment. I enjoyed participating in sports. Every day, my heart and soul laid on the court, along with my best effort and sportsmanship, but I understood that athletics wouldn't take me anywhere past high school. Reason and theoretical thinking kept me from being serious about section and state competitions, and for that reason, as well as my lack of athleticism, I seldom received playing time, especially on varsity. Together, all of us read to gain information, become aware and think about the bigger pictures in life. During William Faulkner's banquet speech for his Nobel Prize in literature, Faulkner discusses the "writer 's duty." Faulkner states that writing should be from the heart, about the anguish, agony and sweat of the human spirit. If one does not write from the heart, mankind cannot prevail. Throughout Hillbilly Elegy by J.D. Vance and American Childhood by Annie Dillard, both memoirs recount the events of the writer's life with universal truths in similar and different ways. During her youth, Dillard was scolded by her mother for calling her maid, who was African American, a racist term that she found out from a neighbor. In today's society, including such experiences can be deemed inappropriate for vocal use. However, using a vastly different time period where racism was still a problem, Dillard is able to demonstrate a time where not everyone had equal rights. She is bringing awareness to an issue that still plagues our society today in incidents like the Black Lives Matter movement. These universal truths should be shared as Faulkner claimed as they can pave the way to a more informed society. Often in memoirs, the writer will mention the losses they have experienced in their lives that have impacted them greatly. They can choose to modify how the stories are to "sugarcoat" the loss or can even leave it out completely if the experience proves to be too traumatizing to the writer. However, the inclusion of these losses can provide comfort and a better understanding of losses the reader may have had in their lives. While Holden clearly believes in protecting the innocence of children in society, he himself cannot seem to hang onto his own innocence. Throughout the novel Holden shows his love and protection for childhood innocence, the irony that he in fact himself may be losing his own childhood innocence mainly due to the responsibilities which he has taken on, and also shows that he may be more innocent than the reader first thinks as his simplified view of a complex world is much like an innocent child would see. In this respect, the cost of the dinner and dance was justifiable to meet financial objectives. The wedding banquet aims to show how perception of sexual orientation can effect different people of different nationalities and how society looks at people of a different sexual orientation. The scene which holds a lot of power in 'The Wedding Banquet' is the scene in which Mr. Gao and Simon are speaking to each other overlooking some kind of a pier. It is in this part of the film that Simon realises that Mr. Gao can speak English which is a huge surprise for Simon as he had spent some of the film trying to speak Chinese to Wai–Tung's parents and trying to be polite to them most likely in hopes that they would ... Neil Flambe And The Bard's Banquet Essay Neil Flambé and the Bard's Banquet The fifth installment in the Neil Flambé Capers written by Kevin Sylvester, Neil Flambé and the Bard's Banquet is 310 pages long and was published by Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers, an imprint of Simon & Schuster Children's Publishing Division. It was copyrighted in 2015 by Kevin Sylvester, and is the first edition. I decided to choose this book because I have read all the other books in the series, and also because I really like mysteries. Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has commented "Good fun" on this series. The protagonist of the book is a talented but cocky teenage chef Neil Flambé, who has a super sensitive nose. Because of this, Neil has been dragged into a number of cases involving food, with most of them involving near–death experiences. He runs a restaurant, Chez ... Stumped by the clues, they ask Isabella's friend Rose for help. They find themselves tangled with centuries old clues about the works of Shakespeare and food. Also looking for the jewel are the Crayfish brothers and Lord Lane, who staged his own murder to shake the Crayfish brothers off his tail. Neil and his friends think that they have found the jewel, which is a signature of William Shakespeare himself, but Rose is captured by Reggie and Ronnie Crayfish. They save Rose and head to Buckingham Palace to cook a meal for the Queen. Then, Neil realizes that the real jewel is in an old globe. Opening it, he discovers one of Shakespeare's lost plays, one that Kemp must have stolen. My final thoughts for this book are that it was a really interesting book. What I liked most about it was that how the author kept making us think that something else was actually the solution to the case. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes ... Symbolism In The Blue Banquet By Octavio Boquet Throughout The Blue Banquet, symbolism through both literal and figurative usage for eyes to demonstrate perspective and understanding of a situation. Since eyes are not just a literal representation of how we see things, but, a metaphorical portrayal on other's perspectives and their outlook of the world. The unique characteristics of what eyes can both metaphorically and literally represent can be strongly demonstrated throughout the short story, the author, Octavio Paz, uses the motif of sight to interpret the world, from the perspective of the characters. The Blue Bouquet uses literal imagery through the description of colour, which is associated with the unintentional appreciation of sight from the protagonist. This is portrayed within ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The stranger is in love–struck desperation for blue eyes, and specifically blue eyes. Since the origin of blue eyes evolved from European nations, this suggests a contradiction between the author and certain European ideologies. Since the short story was written during 1949, right after the Second World War, possibly suggesting Octavio's haste towards the Eurocentric worldview during the era. Even the first three colours mentioned, being red, yellow, and gray, roughly being the colours of the German flag, the Germans being a fascist nation during the era the short story was written. Within the context of the story, the stranger isn't opposed to the the worldview, rather he's hypnotised by love to get himself involved with something he doesn't fully understand. The protagonist, who is strongly believed to be blue–eyed may be assumed to be associated with the ideologies of other individuals with blue eyes, creating a stereotype. The author may be trying to raise awareness of the negative fallouts associated with stereotypes, since concepts like this appear within our everyday life through racism or sexism, such as stereotypes regarding african–american decent and theft. The protagonist identifies that, and may fear that he falls under the stereotype of blue eyes, where the protagonist pleads to the stranger that he is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Dichotomy Of Wei-Tung's 'The Wedding Banquet' "The Wedding Banquet" mightily explores the dichotomy between Wei–Tung's parent's traditional Asian mindset and his way of thinking that ultimately causes them to come into conflicts due to a clash in tradition. His parents esteemed conformity and precedence while he commanded personal freedom regarding his sexual orientation. Just as Wei–Tung believed that he has lived a life that is entirely pleasing, he received a phone call with mounting urgency by his parents to marry a Chinese girl and present them with a grandchild. Wei–Tung could not bring himself to inform his parents that he is gay, as he did not want to dishearten his traditional parents. It is defined as a virtue of respect and obedience for one's parents and elders. In the traditional Chinese culture, bearing children is not only for the sake of the couple. Presenting a grandchild to one's parents is believed to be a vital family duty that every child should be able to accomplish. While Wei–Tung was certainly respectful of his parents and was constantly looking after their health and well–being while they were in New York, he was undeniably disinclined to sacrifice his relationship with Simon in order to satisfy his parents' craving for a grandchild. As his parents' traditional views locked horn with Wei–Tung's reluctance to cave in, something got to give and an accidental pregnancy by Wei–Wei turned the tide into the parents' favor, although this was ultimately the key to Wei–Tung reconciling the whole conflicts. At the end of the day, the movie aptly brings to light the conflict of tradition, motivated by the idea of filial piety, between members of the older generation who have plausibly different outlooks from their contemporary, Americanized ... • 70. The Banquet Scene In The Iliad The Iliad is the quintessential epic. It is full with gods, goddesses, heroes, war, honor, glory, and the like. Priam, old and fragile, makes his way to the camp of the enemy 's greatest warrior late at night. He bears what little treasures have not been exhausted by the ten–year conflict and plans to plead for the rightful return of his son 's body. This is his final heroic endeavor. And ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Recall in Book III his kindliness towards Helen. This perception of Achilles as a vision of Hektor is also a reaction to Achilles ' his newly developed warmth and tenderness. And in fact, not overlooking what Achilles has done, Priam cannot deny that he is a great strong warrior and has brought much glory to the side of the Achaians. By reaching out to Priam, Achilles, for a moment, brings these two bitterly warring nations into a zone of peace. . There is no pretty ending; Troy, we know, will soon be destroyed. The scene is uncompromisingly tragic: Patroklos is dead, Hektor is dead, Priam will soon be killed, and Achilles will soon be killed. Yet somehow, in the midst of suffering, moral beauty survives. Though the human lot he portrays is grim, his actions show a human decency that somehow softens our sense of what it means to be human NOTE: Observe how the plot structure of the Iliad completes itself. In the first book, a father (Chryses) comes to Agamemnon to plead for the return of his child but is refused. In the last book, a father (Priam) also pleads to Achilles for the return of a child; this time pity is shown. Though this symmetry is surely there, Homer is an artist who permits complexities and contradictions. As you begin to sum up your feelings about the Iliad, test all the threads. The question is not simply is Achilles right or wrong, or are the Trojans or Argives the real heroes. Homer values both ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Parable Of The Wedding Banquet Essay The Parable of the Wedding Banquet Short Analysis Throughout his ministry on earth, Jesus taught a number of his lessons through parables, or short and simple stories used to explain a certain moral or spiritual lesson. Many of these parables were relatable to the Jewish people of Jesus' time, and were taught in a way that the common people could understand them. The marriage as a whole represents the Kingdom of God. According to author Matthew Henry, "The King is God, a great King, King of kings." (Henry p.1725). The marriage is for His Son, Jesus, with the church as His bride (p.1725). The servants represent the early prophets and apostles, sent to bring the invitation to the Kingdom to the Jews (Darby, Henry, Johnson). The king, God, extends the first invitation to attend the Kingdom out to the Jews. The people invited refuse to come, some even mistreating and killing the messengers. When the parable refers to the destruction of the Jews when the king sends out his army to burn their city. The city, according to Henry, refers to the destruction of Jerusalem, which is burned about forty years later (Henry p.1726). Then, the invitation is extended to everyone, included the Gentiles (Darby, Henry, Johnson). Everyone is now invited to enter the Kingdom of Heaven no matter their social status. Though everyone is invited, Jesus warns against hypocrites. The garments that the guests wore represent the righteousness of Christ (Wesley, Johnson). Those not clothed in this righteousness are those "in the church who are false friends to Jesus Christ, who say that they love him while in their hearts are not with him." (Henry p.1727).
