Of Mice And Men Response
K.A
In the story of Mice and Men written by John Steinbeck, the story is about two farmers George and
Lennie who had a strong friendship and had big dreams of owning their own farm which was why
they were unlike the others. The story takes place when the great depression is happening and life
was hard at that time but they find a new farm and live there together but Lennie makes some poor
decisions which gets him in trouble and leads to his death by his own best friend which he had to do
for the best of both of them.To me George had to kill Lennie because he felt like it was his job
ending his best friends life instead of him suffering.
George was right to kill Lennie because Lennie would make the same mistakes he kill people and
animals over and over again and George thought that Lennie could get out of hand and hurt more
people in the future because lennie never knew what was right and what was wrong and he ... Show

Of Mice And Men George's Friend Analysis
Of Mice and Men is a story about two friends that travel together looking for work. There is George
who is a small, wiry, quick–witted man who travels with, and cares for Lennie. And there is lennie
who is opposite, "a huge man, shapeless of face, with large, pale eyes, with wide, sloping shoulders;
and he walked heavily, dragging his feet a little, the way a bear drags his paws. His arms did not
swing at his sides, but hung loosely."(Steinbeck 2). Let's see if Lennie is really George's friend.
In the book Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, Lennie is truly a friend to George. This is shown
multiple times throughout the book. One time is after they just had a fight, Lennie was threatening
to move into the mountains. George decided that he really actually did like Lennie and apologized
and started talking about their farm they were going to have. This scene is very repetitive in the
book, which really shows how George actually likes Lennie. "No–look! I was jus' foolin', Lennie.
'Cause I want you to stay with me. (Steinbeck 7) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

on the farm together they have a common goal and a true friendship. Lennie to listen to George so
that he does not get into trouble while on the new job that he a George are going to. Lennie not get
into trouble this time like he did other times, "But you ain't gonna get into trouble, because if you
do, I won't let you tend the rabbits. I won't get into trouble, George. I ain't gonna say a word"

Frédéric Chopin, a famous composer and pianist known among the world. Chopin grew up in an

Impact Of Thomas Jefferson And Geroge Washington On The...
Thomas Jefferson and Geroge Washington played a large role in the stability of the government.
George Washington was well respected among the public, which is why he was elected as the first
president of America after the U.S. had officially become independent from Britain. Moreover,
Thomas Jefferson was also a well–respected leader and believed in economic equality for everyone.
Overall they both helped shape America for the better in the ways they led the country throughout
their presidency.
Washington was a man of character and rarely used force to settle issues. During the Whiskey
Rebellion, which was caused by the tax placed on whiskey, George Washington personally led his
troops to go stop the rebellion. This was the first realization of the need for a stronger central
government. Although many Americans did not like the strong central government style of leading
because it reminded them of their past rulership, it was needed for America to become stable.
Washington's response to the uproar helped build relations between people and the tax collectors,
which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Just after Washington was elected, he made Britain sign Jay's Treaty which led to peaceful
commerce. The treaty also forced the British out of northwestern posts. Thomas Jefferson believed
in an agricultural lifestyle because he believed there would be no room for corruption. In hopes of
not getting involved with foreign affairs, Jefferson passed the Embargo Act which banned trading
with foreign countries. Although this was disliked, it helped create America's manufacturing. This
also helped to stabilize the economy of America. Although Thomas Jefferson opposed the bank, he
opposed it because he thought it gave too much power to the national government. He also believed
that the constitution did not have the power to do this. This helped stabilize the government because
it allows states to form their own banks and charter

The Edge Of Nowhere Book Talk Analysis
Marvelous Aluko October 23, 2017 English 11 CP Book Talk Assignment The Edge of Nowhere –
Book Talk Good morning everyone. My name is Marvelous Aluko. The quote I carefully chose to
begin this book talk is "Everyone is obsessed with standing out, but just want a chance to fit in" –
Elizabeth Geroge. I chose this quote because the main character in my book struggled with fitting in.
The quote is also very relatable to today's society. Everyone talks about being different while trying
to fit into the crowd. Being different is all about doing things that push you far outside your comfort
zone. This has a lot to do with the book I chose titled The Edge of Nowhere written by Elizabeth
George. Once again the title of the book I chose is The Edge

Events in Animal Farm by Geroge Ordwell Essay
Animal Farm
1.
The general purpose of the seven commandme nts is not to govern Animal Farm justly, as it seems
to the animals, but to be propaganda to make Animalism appealing.
For instance, the first comma ndment, "Whatever goes on two legs is an enemy," does not do
anything for the animals themselves, but only demonizes man because he is the enemy of
Animalism. By demonizing man, Animalism appeals to the animals' resentment toward man. It also
makes its alternative, being ruled by man, look far worse than itself, so that, despite the obvious
faults of Animalism, no one will abandon it. The second commandment, "Whateve r goes on four
legs, or has wings, is a friend," serves to create an enticing se nse of unity and ... Show more content

Firstly, he attributes complex problems such as hunger and overwork to unbelievably simple causes,
while complex problems almost always have complex causes. Sec ondly, Old Major is denying
man's role in
God's creation. God made man the lord ove r creation to use it with wisdom and reverence for his
survival and well–being.
If one man abuses his position like Mr.
Jones, that does not make all men the enem ies of Nature. Old Major is also assuming that man is
inherently evil. However, man has free will to make the choice to be good or evil. If man does evil
deeds, it is only because he has made that choice, not because he was evil from the beginning.
Finally, Ol d Major is implying that a single group, the animals, is free from guilt. This is unt rue
because all are capable of sin and this becomes obvious later in the book. Thus, Ol d Major's
statements against humans are most definitely igno rant and naïve.

Synopsis: George Armstrong Custer was a West Point graduate who attained military promotions to
brigadier general and major general in the regular army on March 13, 1865 and major general of
volunteers April 15, 1865 during the American Civil War. Later in 1870's, Custer moved to the west
to fight in the Indian Wars. On June 25, 1876, a battle at Little Bighorn against Lakota and
Cheyenne warriors was fought where he led 210 men. Custer and all of his men were killed in the
battle. The battle, also known as "Custer's Last Stand," was part of the Black Hills War against a
confederation of Plains Indians, including the Cheyenne and Dakota Sioux. It is considered one of
the most controversial battles in U.S. history. A cavalry commander in the United States Army,
Custer fought in both the Indian Wars as well as the Civil War. He was born and brought up in Ohio
and Michigan and West Point admitted in 1858. During the Civil War he gained a reputation that
was strong because of whom he associated with. The Battle of Bull Run was his first major
involvement. He had a temporary promotion to major general but returned to captain at the end of
the war. After the Civil Wars, he left for the west and the Indian Wars. He led the 7th Cavalry in the

Should Geroge Have Killed Lennie
As people may know, George Milton is accused for the murder of Lennie smalls instantly killing
him in the back of his head. But George is innocent and there was a method to this behind all this
madness. First it must be understood that George had two decisions: To kill Lennie? Or let Lennie
live and take him to trial? Since Lennie was George's best friend whom he took care of all the time
because he was mentally disabled so, obviously George did not want to watch his friend be tortured
and killed in such an inhumane, harsh manner which explains why George would choose to take the
law into his own hands. "Of Mice and Men" written by John Steinbeck explains the story of two

Another reason George had no other choice was that Lennie was not fully aware of his mental
abilities as he was his physical strengths which often lead to Lennie getting in trouble like his one
one incident that happened in weed before they came to the ranch. Also, aside from Curley's Wife
Lennie has killed other things before such as a mouse that he found, and a puppy on the ranch so
Lennie could be a danger or potential threat to others on the ranch which would make sense to why
George would have simply no other realistic choice but to kill him. Lastly, Lennie would have been
shot regardless. Curley wanted to shoot Lennie but if he were to have shot him Lennie would have
died in fear and that is exactly what George did not want to happen. Csrlson had also wanted to
shoot Lennie and Geroge might have remembered Carlson shooting Candy's dog and after candy
saying "I ought to have shot the dog myself". George could have realized that if he did not shot
Lennie himself than he would regret it just like Candy had. Lennie was so big that he unaware of his
strengths and he could have hurt someone else again or he could have put his own life in jeopardy as
well. George killing Lennie was justified because George was Lennie's best friend and Geroge knew
that he Curley was going to kill Lennie anyways. George and Lennie both dreamed of living on a
ranch together but because of both of their diasadvantages that dream would never be

Business Report : Senior Accountant Working For Cape Tisbe...
1.0 Introduction
I am a senior accountant working for Cape Tisbe International (CTI) and am writing this business
report to the Board concerning the issue of a large amount of money ($4 million) that has been paid
to a PNG government minister as "Consulting Fees" recently. In this report, I intend to identify the
fact, the issues needed to be tackled regarding this payment, and then discuss the possible
consequences derived from these "Consulting Fees", subsequently I will offer some plausible
recommendations in coping with this issue in a short and long–run global expansion, and lastly I
would like to discusss the appropriate ways to handle business globally in the foreseeable future. 2.0
Background
A year ago, CTI signed a contract for farm machinery, worth $25 million, with Papua New
Guinea(PNG). Recently, however, when I was conducting the annual internal audit, I have
discovered some financial issues associated with this signed contract. As soon as I found something
wrong with the transaction records I communicated with George but his answer has not addressed
my confusion and concerns. Soon after that I had a chat with my boss Gareth, and failed to gain a
satisfied answer again. After the conversation with both of them, thus, I decided to dig it a bit
further. Now I have discovered that the actual sales revenue of the contract was $21 million due to
around $4 million that has been paid to a PNG government minister as "Consulting Fees".
Apparently, Geroge and

How Does Steinbeck Use Foreshadowing In Of Mice And Men
We all have that one person who has been with you through thick and thin, now just imagine their
blood is on your hands. In John Steinbeck's short novel "Of mice and men" we follow two partners
traveling the country in search of a stable job and money. The two partners, George and Lennie,
have major differences in personality because Geroge is small and smart while Lennie has mental
retardation but is a hell of a worker. Through the story we will follow the hardships between George
and Lennie and their life. I believe that in Steinbeck's novel, he uses foreshadowing to convey the
actions and emotions of George and Lennie from the beginning till the end of the story.
Foreshadowing is used in the title of "Of Mice and Men" because mice are often in the story because
Lennie used to be given mice as a kid but he always killed them from petting them too much and
even as an adult he kills everything he touches Like in chapter 5 it states that ' Lennie sat in the hay
looked at a little dead puppy that lay in front of him." And in another page in chapter 5 it says that
"...He shook her; and her body flopped like a fish. And then she was still, for Lennie had broken her
neck." I believe that the story foreshadowed this when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Gone is the damsel in distress aura that is usually exhibited in movies. When Carrie Fisher played

Comparing George And Lennie In John Steinbeck's Of Mice...
Of Mice and Men is a novella written by well–known John Steinbeck, which takes place during the
Great Depression, and is published in 1937.The story starts with our two main characters, George
and Lennie, two migrant workers, who are on their way to their new workplace which is near the
Salinas River in California. Despite the differences of their appearance, they both have a same
dream to make more money now in order to achieve their future American dream and have a better
life. In addition, their true friendship bonds George and Lennie together, and the trust they have
even made them the best company. First, there are some obvious appearance and personality
differences between George and Lennie. "George is small, and has strong hands, slender arms, and a
thin and bony nose; whereas, Lennie is huge, and has shapeless of face, large and pale eyes, with
wide, sloping shoulders" (John Steinbeck 2). About personality differences, George is smart and
well experienced. He's also the team leader because the later conversations indicate that part of him.
Meanwhile, Lennie is a kind and animal–like man. In addition, he's simple–minded and naive. From

Comparison Of John Steinbeck's Of Mice And Men
An unknown source once said "People with good intention make promises, people with good
character keep them" (https://becauseisaidiwould.com/promisequotes/). Of Mice and Men, is an
amazing story, that revolves around the journey of two characters, who are not similar in any way,
who go on a wild trek chasing their American Dream. This eye catching story revolves around the
two best friends, George and Lenny. George can be classified as someone who knows his way
around, he knows how to get around the in's and out's of all situations, and is ultimately the only
reason Lenny might still be alive and safe. Lenny on the other hand can be described as a giant baby.

Someone who disagrees with George being a realistic character might say that it is highly unlikely
for someone, in the time period the book takes place, would use their whole, promising, life to take
care of someone with a mental disability. People with mental disabilities were treated very badly
during the setting. The unknown of these disabilities scared people, so they sent the disabled to
institutets to live out their life secluded from the outside world. Unfortunately, Lenny is one of the
people to possess a disability, but his situation is a little different than being set into mental
institutes. He is taken care of by George and travels around working alongside George, dreaming of
tending the rabbits. Although Lenny's situation is unlike most others, because of his disability, it
would have made it almost impossible for him to have the chance to travel around working with
George. This argument is incorrect because although it might be unlikely, it is very possible that
there were people in the same situation as George, having to take care of someone with a disability.
It might have been a rough time period, but there were good people in the world and i'm sure there
were people with the intelligence level of Geroge, and also the level of compassion he possesses. In
different places around the book, George

Why Did George Soros Exist
As the world becomes a morally "amorphous" place, there remains someone to provides it with a

dedicated their life to providing others with basic human rights. Oftentimes, people who live in the

developing countries, such things remain a luxury. In fact, some people live in a lawless society.
Fortunately, people like George Soros exist. For those unaware, George Soros remains a prominent

Character Analysis Of Lennie In John Steinbeck's Of Mice...
The loneliest character in this novel I would say it's going to be Lennie. Lennie is the loneliest
because if he did not have George in his life I do not think Lennie would have anyone in his life,
Also, Lennie would not know from right to wrong because George is the that tells him what not to
do, Finally, Lennie has a mental illness and if he did not have geroge I do not think he would be able
to survive. If Lennie did not have George, he would not have anybody in his life. Throughout the
novel it talks about how Lennie and George stick together and plan to have a future in a barn. "Well,
i never seen one guy take so much trouble for another guy. i like to know what your interest is." This
tells the reader that even though Lennie brought a bunch of problems into George life, George still
would stay with Lennie. It's satisfying that George is willing to miss on something great in his life
because he does not want to leave Lennie alone. Also, a lot of people would not do what George

people and they want to have fun and explore, but they shouldn't have to worry about whether they'll
get sick or not. Unfortunately, New York nowadays has a "significant environmental threat
contributing to an estimated of 6% annual deaths," air pollution (Air Pollution., 2016). Despite the
increase in environmental concerns, New York has been taking steps in order to improve its air
quality. New York City has a significant air pollution problem that causes death for hundreds of
people year round. Researchers at NYU's medical school have reported that just

A Sunday On La Grande Jatte Analysis
I chose A Sunday on La Grande Jatte by Geroges Seurat for my critical analysis. When I was in 4th
grade, my gifted class studied this artwork by Seurat. After studying this piece, we were allowed to
replicate A Sunday on La Grande Jatte in the form of a mural in one of the hallways. I was beyond
fascinated with the different colored "dots" we were using, and how in the end it all came together
as a whole. Seurat's pointillism technique catches my eye each time I see a piece of his, and to this
day, I am in awe of this particular piece. In my opinion, his creation of pointillism is outstanding. I
am amazed at how the dots somehow create an undeniable texture. It looks as if Georges Seurat
captured a fuzzy picture of the scene he was inspired

Sympathy For Crooks In John Steinbeck's Of Mice And Men
Crooks deserves the most sympathy, because he lives in a community full of white people and he
doesn't have any other African Americans close by to communicate with. He deserves the most
sympathy because he also gets called rude names like, nigger, and he also has a crooked
back.Crooks deserves the most sympathy because he has the worst lif out of everyone in the book.
One reason why the readers feel the most sympathy for Crooks is because he is treated poorly
because of his race. When he is first introduced by Candy he gets called a bad name because of his
race. Candy tells Geroge, "The stable buck's a n**ger" (20), this devlops a terrible tone towards
Crooks. His life is pretty crappy because "The boss gives him hell when ... Show more content on

go off in the hilld and find a cave, I can go away anytime"(103). Lennie said this because he thought
George didn't want to be with him and didn't like him.
One reason why Curley's wife deserves the least sympathy from the audience is because she gets
galled a lot of bad names. When she leaves the bunkhouse Lennie says "she's purty"(32). After
Lennie sayed that George said listen you crazy bastard "Don't you even take a look at that bitch"

because she is Curley's wife and she is flirting with other people in the bunkhouse. George said
"Jesus what a tramp"(32). She was called a tramp because she was flirting with the guys in the
bunkhouse.
I think Crooks deserves the most sympathy out of everyone in the town because he has the worse

Telescreens In 1984 Essay
Imagine the World as a place with screens that watch ones every move, and microphones placed in
every wall, and a posters stating BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU. Ultimately, people would
behave a lot differently when someone is watching their every move, in terms of thinking twice
before they blurt words out and thinking about the actions they commit. Winston Smith is a member
of the outer party, in which his every move is watched. He lives in Oceania, where a totalitarian
government is established and every sound, move, or thought is look over. The members of society

terribly dangerous to let your thoughts wander when you are in a public place or within range of a

town of Oceania can detect ones mood in any setting, which frightens the population of Oceania.
"Life, if you looked about you, bore no resemblance not only to the lies that streamed out of the
telescreens, but even in the ideals that the party was trying to achive." As Winston is arriving at his

was of coarse no way of knowing whether you were being watched at any given moment. How
often, or on what system, the thought police plugged in on any individual wire was guesswork"(3).

Curley's Wife Character Analysis
Throughout the book, Lennie builds up a reputation of killing things unintentionally and
unexpectedly. Nine times out of ten, Lennie is just petting something because it is soft and he gets
carried away. The petting typically ends in the death of someone or something. One night in the
barn, Curley's wife offers to have Lennie feel how soft her hair is, Lennie gladly takes her up the
offer. But suddenly, things take a turn when he does not let go of her hair, "He flopped her body like
a fish. And then she was still, for Lennie had broken her neck" (Steinbeck 91). Surprisingly, Curley's
wife shows how she can open up when her husband is not around and connect with other people,
especially Lennie. But, he tends to get carried away and kill things. This was the worst death caused
by Lennie yet, being that it was a person. This is a great example of Lennie killing things
unintentionally. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One day, when George leaves Lennie behind in the barn, he kills Curley's wife and George saw this
as the last straw with Lennie. George decides to find where Lennie had run away to, and comfort

and steadied it, and he brought the muzzle of it close to the back of Lennie's head. The hand shook
violently, but his face set and his hand steadied. He pulled the trigger" (Steinbeck 106). Nobody
would have ever assumed George would do something so horrid. However, he seemed to have been
persuaded by Curley and Slim to kill Lennie because of what he had done. So even though George
may seem like a really kind, loving person, he does have a really awful side to

Compare And Contrast George Milton And Lennie Small
Compare and Contrast To begin with the book Of Mice and Men is a very touching story; Steinbeck
did an amazing job describing each character to show their differences. George Milton and Lennie
Small the two main characters in the story are very different in appearance, but are similar in some
aspects. They are migrant worker that go to different plantations just trying to earn money and stay
out of trouble. First off George Milton, in his appearance he is small, and smart. George has to be
the leader always; he has to be a step ahead just in case something goes wrong. He is the provider,
because without George, Lennie would not survive. George knows that, which puts a tremendous
amount of pressure and stress on George which he talks about how life would be without Lennie.
Without Lennie, George would be lonely and in a way Lennie motivates George. They both have the
dream to get enough money, and having their on farm. The dream motivates George that, maybe one
day that will eventually come true, but in the mean time George has to keep Lennie safe. ... Show

making sure he does not get in trouble. Their dream is then corrupted by the wrong doings of

The Dysptopian Novel of 1984 by Geroge Orwell
The dystopian novel of 1984, written by the English writer George Orwell, was first published by
Secker and Warburg in 1949. The novel discusses the life of Winston Smith and his venture to rebel
against the totalitarian state in which he resides. George Orwell wrote 1984 as a warning after World
War II, with the intention of describing a society that he would never want to live the day to see.
Unfortunately, he knew that it was more of a precaution to say this is how life for some was like in
Germany or the Soviet Union. Both of these places having been in power during his time he wrote
this to show the rest of the world how it was too late for them, and coming nearer for everyone else.
During the war, Orwell worked for the British Broadcasting Company, where he got the idea for
newspeak. Orwell's main goals in 1984 are to depict the frightening techniques a totalitarian
government (in which a single ruling class possesses absolute power) might use to control its
subjects, and to illustrate the extent of the control that government is able to exert. George Orwell's
1984, the theme that a government may use mind controlling and brainwashing to maintain power
over the society has been brought out through many symbols, events and ideas. In the year of 1984,
the world has been divided into three super powers: Oceania, Eastasia and Eurasia. In the society of
Oceania, which is controlled by a totalitarian Party, love, sex, joy, happiness, personal documents,
thoughts, etc, are

Geroge Orwell Essay
Geroge Orwell
"One of the things Orwell bequeathed us was the adjective 'Orwellian'.... It is a frightening word,
generally applied to a society organized to crush and dehumanize the individual, sometimes
signifying the alienation of that individual if he dares to rebel" (Lewis 13). George Orwell, the
pseudonym for Eric Arthur Blair, depicted the importance of the individual in society and the danger
of too much community in his literature. Through his personal experiences, however, he explored
the ideas of socialism and was torn between the individual and community ideals. In his literature
and his past, Orwell spoke against movements that remove the individual, but still emphasized the
importance of community. Thus, he advocated a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He enjoyed the idea that everybody was equal, but he still showed resentment towards it. His inner
conflict between these two ideas and his experiences as a member in the Spanish Civil War caused
him to choose a median between the community ideals which he saw and the individual ideals
which he missed: "I have seen wonderful things and at last really believe in socialism, which I never
did before" (qtd. in Chen).
With the start of World War II, George Orwell began his fight against Nazism, fascism, and
communism. In the eyes of many, communism became interchangeable with socialism, and he
criticized writers of his time that were in support of Stalin and his "socialist" movement: "Why
should writers be attracted by a form of Socialism that makes mental honesty impossible" (qtd. in
Lewis 76)? In an attempt to pacify the radical communist movements and change imperialism, he
spoke of a third method to reform the British Empire–a middle ground that would create a socialist
community in Britain. John Newsinger wrote, "[He had a] call for a new socialist movement that
would reject both Communist–style revolution and Labour Party reformism in favour of a third way
to socialism, a third way that he continued to call revolutionary but that was adapted to modern
conditions" (qtd. in Chen). Through this, one can see that Orwell wanted to avoid such movements
as communism, which attempted to obtain control over the individual, and yet he had a need to
preserve the

Analysis Of Broken Windows Theory
x
According to James Q. Wilson and Geroge Kelling in their theoretical article piece "Broken
Windows," the Broken Windows Theory concludes that if disorder goes untreated in neighborhoods,
the fear of crime goes up in citizens and police officers, and more disorder will lead. The focus on
police officers obligating to socialize more personally with its citizens in neighborhoods leads to
citizens having more favorable opinions of the police and for residents to feel more secure. In effect,
those residents would think that crime has been reduced in their neighborhood. Although with the
practice of personal socialization [foot patrol] for police officers its citizens in neighborhoods,
crimes rates have shown no decline in crime, however, citizen's perception of police officers and
their neighborhoods grow favorable."
The function for policing of the Broken Windows Theory is for police officers to use the tactic of
foot patrol and socializing more persistently and effectively with citizens in neighborhoods, and
perform an "order maintenance" function. This function enables to gain trust and reduce fear in the
citizens. Moreover, police officers attempt to care to pay more attention to detail to citizens to
maintain order. Geroge L. Kelly illustrates this theory in his work of law enforcement. He describes
his area of work, "run down" regarding the heart of Newark [New Jersey.] His approach of work
was "order maintenance." He illustrates, "As he [Kelly] saw his job, he

a horrific event, the people that did not want it to perish, and the enterpenurs that helped revive the
city and proved that you can change a bad situation into something good.
It starts in 1871 with a great fire that burned most of the proud city to the ground leaving only a few
railroads and warehouses around. It is estimated that almost 2,600 acres of buildings were burned
and destroyed. No one really knew at that the time whom started or caused the fire but out of fear of
losing investors, blame was placed on an innocent elderly lady by the name of Catherine O' Leary.
The stain on her name was later removed by the city in 1997 and placed

Lennie In John Steinbeck's Of Mice And Men
Of Mice and Men is a novel written by John Steinbeck which is set in the Great Depression and
follows two male ranch workers, Lennie and George. They form a strange friendship but they have
big dreams of one day going out into the world and opening a ranch for themselves and settling
down. Steinbeck named this novel after a poem called "To a Mouse" which was written by Robert
Burns. "The best laid schemes of mice and men/Go often askew/And leave us nothing but grief and
pain,/ For promised joy!" (39–42) In Of Mice and Men Lennie is tall with big arms, but is very
child–like because he does not understand the consequences of his actions, like when he kills the
puppy and then Curly's wife. Like the mouse in the poem "To a Mouse" Lennie does not know what
it is to keep a home, and the "nest" that the farmer destroys is Lennie's dream of the ranch that he
and George are going to open but, in the end, we know that is not going to happen. Lennie has no
power because he is the mouse and he is like a child. But in another way Lennie does have power
when he is killing the puppy and Curley's wife. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Comparing The Good And Bad In John Steinbeck's Of Mice And...
Unit 3A The Good and Bad in Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men characters
I am writing this essay to explain how John Steinbeck presents good and bad in the characters
George and Curley from the novella "Of Mice and Men." Also in this essay I will discuss
Steinbeck's uses of explicit language to help us understand character types for the characters Curley
and George. The last thing that this essay will show is how Steinbeck engages us to show good and
bad in characters. John Steinbeck wanted us to understand men, as "if you understand each other
you will be kind to each other".
In the beginning of the book we see George walk to the river with Lennie. We can see George as a
master of Lennie. We know this by the line "Give it here said George" This ... Show more content on

George assures Lennie that he can tend the rabbits. This makes Lennie happy because George is
telling a story that Lennie keeps forgetting on purpose. This makes George a good character, as he
has patience with Lennie.
In the second chapter George and Lennie meet the boss to get a job. George describes Lennie to the
boss as, "Strong as a bull" and "Hell of a good worker." The phase "Strong as a bull" is a simile and
this makes Lennie sounds beastlike." This shows that George is being honest with the boss which
makes him a good character and also this makes George smart.
Next, when George and Lennie are talking to the boss George lies to the boss to get a job. George
lies to the boss by saying "He's my ........... cousin." and "He got kicked in the head by a horse."
George lies to the boss so that his job is secure. George is a good character at this point because he
wants to earn money so he and Lennie can do something with their money to make the dream farm
become reality.
After the meeting with the boss George uses horrible language towards Lennie like, "Be a good
damn thing if you was George said viciously." The adverb viciously shows that Geroge is being
horrible to Lennie and also shows that George has a short patience, this allows us to think that
George is a bad character in this

  • 1. Of Mice And Men Response K.A In the story of Mice and Men written by John Steinbeck, the story is about two farmers George and Lennie who had a strong friendship and had big dreams of owning their own farm which was why they were unlike the others. The story takes place when the great depression is happening and life was hard at that time but they find a new farm and live there together but Lennie makes some poor decisions which gets him in trouble and leads to his death by his own best friend which he had to do for the best of both of them.To me George had to kill Lennie because he felt like it was his job ending his best friends life instead of him suffering. George was right to kill Lennie because Lennie would make the same mistakes he kill people and animals over and over again and George thought that Lennie could get out of hand and hurt more people in the future because lennie never knew what was right and what was wrong and he ... • 5. Of Mice And Men George's Friend Analysis Of Mice and Men is a story about two friends that travel together looking for work. There is George who is a small, wiry, quick–witted man who travels with, and cares for Lennie. And there is lennie who is opposite, "a huge man, shapeless of face, with large, pale eyes, with wide, sloping shoulders; and he walked heavily, dragging his feet a little, the way a bear drags his paws. His arms did not swing at his sides, but hung loosely."(Steinbeck 2). Let's see if Lennie is really George's friend. In the book Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, Lennie is truly a friend to George. This is shown multiple times throughout the book. One time is after they just had a fight, Lennie was threatening to move into the mountains. George decided that he really actually did like Lennie and apologized and started talking about their farm they were going to have. This scene is very repetitive in the book, which really shows how George actually likes Lennie. "No–look! I was jus' foolin', Lennie. 'Cause I want you to stay with me. (Steinbeck 7) ... • 9. Impact Of Thomas Jefferson And Geroge Washington On The... Thomas Jefferson and Geroge Washington played a large role in the stability of the government. George Washington was well respected among the public, which is why he was elected as the first president of America after the U.S. had officially become independent from Britain. Moreover, Thomas Jefferson was also a well–respected leader and believed in economic equality for everyone. Overall they both helped shape America for the better in the ways they led the country throughout their presidency. Washington was a man of character and rarely used force to settle issues. During the Whiskey Rebellion, which was caused by the tax placed on whiskey, George Washington personally led his troops to go stop the rebellion. This was the first realization of the need for a stronger central government. Although many Americans did not like the strong central government style of leading because it reminded them of their past rulership, it was needed for America to become stable. Washington's response to the uproar helped build relations between people and the tax collectors, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although this was disliked, it helped create America's manufacturing. This also helped to stabilize the economy of America. The quote I carefully chose to begin this book talk is "Everyone is obsessed with standing out, but just want a chance to fit in" – Elizabeth Geroge. I chose this quote because the main character in my book struggled with fitting in. The quote is also very relatable to today's society. Everyone talks about being different while trying to fit into the crowd. Being different is all about doing things that push you far outside your comfort zone. • 15. Events in Animal Farm by Geroge Ordwell Essay Animal Farm 1. The general purpose of the seven commandme nts is not to govern Animal Farm justly, as it seems to the animals, but to be propaganda to make Animalism appealing. For instance, the first comma ndment, "Whatever goes on two legs is an enemy," does not do anything for the animals themselves, but only demonizes man because he is the enemy of Animalism. By demonizing man, Animalism appeals to the animals' resentment toward man. It also makes its alternative, being ruled by man, look far worse than itself, so that, despite the obvious faults of Animalism, no one will abandon it. The second commandment, "Whateve r goes on four legs, or has wings, is a friend," serves to create an enticing se nse of unity and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Firstly, he attributes complex problems such as hunger and overwork to unbelievably simple causes, while complex problems almost always have complex causes. Sec ondly, Old Major is denying man's role in God's creation. God made man the lord ove r creation to use it with wisdom and reverence for his survival and well–being. If one man abuses his position like Mr. Jones, that does not make all men the enem ies of Nature. Old Major is also assuming that man is inherently evil. However, man has free will to make the choice to be good or evil. If man does evil deeds, it is only because he has made that choice, not because he was evil from the beginning. Finally, Ol d Major is implying that a single group, the animals, is free from guilt. This is unt rue because all are capable of sin and this becomes obvious later in the book. Thus, Ol d Major's statements against humans are most definitely igno rant and naïve. 4. The Battle of Cowshed was a very exciting event in Animal Farm . It began when Mr. Jones and some other men came up the lane, l eading to the farm so that they could recapture it. Snowball led the defense agains t these invading humans. He first sent out the ducks and geese to peck at the men's le gs, but the birds were easily driven back. The Life of Geroge Armstrong Custer Synopsis: George Armstrong Custer was a West Point graduate who attained military promotions to brigadier general and major general in the regular army on March 13, 1865 and major general of volunteers April 15, 1865 during the American Civil War. Later in 1870's, Custer moved to the west to fight in the Indian Wars. On June 25, 1876, a battle at Little Bighorn against Lakota and Cheyenne warriors was fought where he led 210 men. Custer and all of his men were killed in the battle. The battle, also known as "Custer's Last Stand," was part of the Black Hills War against a confederation of Plains Indians, including the Cheyenne and Dakota Sioux. It is considered one of the most controversial battles in U.S. history. A cavalry commander in the United States Army, Custer fought in both the Indian Wars as well as the Civil War. He was born and brought up in Ohio and Michigan and West Point admitted in 1858. During the Civil War he gained a reputation that was strong because of whom he associated with. The Battle of Bull Run was his first major involvement. He had a temporary promotion to major general but returned to captain at the end of the war. After the Civil Wars, he left for the west and the Indian Wars. He led the 7th Cavalry in the battle of Washita River. • 19. Should Geroge Have Killed Lennie As people may know, George Milton is accused for the murder of Lennie smalls instantly killing him in the back of his head. But George is innocent and there was a method to this behind all this madness. First it must be understood that George had two decisions: To kill Lennie? Or let Lennie live and take him to trial? Since Lennie was George's best friend whom he took care of all the time because he was mentally disabled so, obviously George did not want to watch his friend be tortured and killed in such an inhumane, harsh manner which explains why George would choose to take the law into his own hands. "Of Mice and Men" written by John Steinbeck explains the story of two best friend's George Milton a small guy, and Lennie Smalls a big ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another reason George had no other choice was that Lennie was not fully aware of his mental abilities as he was his physical strengths which often lead to Lennie getting in trouble like his one one incident that happened in weed before they came to the ranch. Also, aside from Curley's Wife Lennie has killed other things before such as a mouse that he found, and a puppy on the ranch so Lennie could be a danger or potential threat to others on the ranch which would make sense to why George would have simply no other realistic choice but to kill him. Lastly, Lennie would have been shot regardless. Curley wanted to shoot Lennie but if he were to have shot him Lennie would have died in fear and that is exactly what George did not want to happen. Csrlson had also wanted to shoot Lennie and Geroge might have remembered Carlson shooting Candy's dog and after candy saying "I ought to have shot the dog myself". George could have realized that if he did not shot Lennie himself than he would regret it just like Candy had. Lennie was so big that he unaware of his strengths and he could have hurt someone else again or he could have put his own life in jeopardy as well. George killing Lennie was justified because George was Lennie's best friend and Geroge knew that he Curley was going to kill Lennie anyways. Business Report : Senior Accountant Working For Cape Tisbe... 1.0 Introduction I am a senior accountant working for Cape Tisbe International (CTI) and am writing this business report to the Board concerning the issue of a large amount of money ($4 million) that has been paid to a PNG government minister as "Consulting Fees" recently. In this report, I intend to identify the fact, the issues needed to be tackled regarding this payment, and then discuss the possible consequences derived from these "Consulting Fees", subsequently I will offer some plausible recommendations in coping with this issue in a short and long–run global expansion, and lastly I would like to discusss the appropriate ways to handle business globally in the foreseeable future. 2.0 Background A year ago, CTI signed a contract for farm machinery, worth $25 million, with Papua New Guinea(PNG). Recently, however, when I was conducting the annual internal audit, I have discovered some financial issues associated with this signed contract. As soon as I found something wrong with the transaction records I communicated with George but his answer has not addressed my confusion and concerns. Soon after that I had a chat with my boss Gareth, and failed to gain a satisfied answer again. After the conversation with both of them, thus, I decided to dig it a bit further. Now I have discovered that the actual sales revenue of the contract was $21 million due to around $4 million that has been paid to a PNG government minister as "Consulting Fees". • 25. How Does Steinbeck Use Foreshadowing In Of Mice And Men We all have that one person who has been with you through thick and thin, now just imagine their blood is on your hands. In John Steinbeck's short novel "Of mice and men" we follow two partners traveling the country in search of a stable job and money. The two partners, George and Lennie, have major differences in personality because Geroge is small and smart while Lennie has mental retardation but is a hell of a worker. Through the story we will follow the hardships between George and Lennie and their life. I believe that in Steinbeck's novel, he uses foreshadowing to convey the actions and emotions of George and Lennie from the beginning till the end of the story. Foreshadowing is used in the title of "Of Mice and Men" because mice are often in the story because Lennie used to be given mice as a kid but he always killed them from petting them too much and even as an adult he kills everything he touches Like in chapter 5 it states that ' Lennie sat in the hay looked at a little dead puppy that lay in front of him." And in another page in chapter 5 it says that "...He shook her; and her body flopped like a fish. And then she was still, for Lennie had broken her neck." • 29. Comparing George And Lennie In John Steinbeck's Of Mice... Of Mice and Men is a novella written by well–known John Steinbeck, which takes place during the Great Depression, and is published in 1937.The story starts with our two main characters, George and Lennie, two migrant workers, who are on their way to their new workplace which is near the Salinas River in California. Despite the differences of their appearance, they both have a same dream to make more money now in order to achieve their future American dream and have a better life. In addition, their true friendship bonds George and Lennie together, and the trust they have even made them the best company. First, there are some obvious appearance and personality differences between George and Lennie. "George is small, and has strong hands, slender arms, and a thin and bony nose; whereas, Lennie is huge, and has shapeless of face, large and pale eyes, with wide, sloping shoulders" (John Steinbeck 2). About personality differences, George is smart and well experienced. He's also the team leader because the later conversations indicate that part of him. Of Mice and Men, is an amazing story, that revolves around the journey of two characters, who are not similar in any way, who go on a wild trek chasing their American Dream. This eye catching story revolves around the two best friends, George and Lenny. George can be classified as someone who knows his way around, he knows how to get around the in's and out's of all situations, and is ultimately the only reason Lenny might still be alive and safe. Lenny on the other hand can be described as a giant baby. The ginormous man, topping the charts in both size and strength, could pretty easily ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Someone who disagrees with George being a realistic character might say that it is highly unlikely for someone, in the time period the book takes place, would use their whole, promising, life to take care of someone with a mental disability. People with mental disabilities were treated very badly during the setting. The unknown of these disabilities scared people, so they sent the disabled to institutets to live out their life secluded from the outside world. Unfortunately, Lenny is one of the people to possess a disability, but his situation is a little different than being set into mental institutes. He is taken care of by George and travels around working alongside George, dreaming of tending the rabbits. Although Lenny's situation is unlike most others, because of his disability, it would have made it almost impossible for him to have the chance to travel around working with George. This argument is incorrect because although it might be unlikely, it is very possible that there were people in the same situation as George, having to take care of someone with a disability. It might have been a rough time period, but there were good people in the world and i'm sure there were people with the intelligence level of Geroge, and also the level of compassion he possesses. In 2012, the Walt Disney Co. offered $4 billion to Lucasfilm in order to purchase the rights to the global phenomenon that is the 'Star Wars' franchise. As opposed, many professional analysts believed this was a bad move on Disney's part, as it seemed to be too large of a sum for a franchise that hadn't produced anything new since the underwhelming trilogy of 2005. • 41. Character Analysis Of Lennie In John Steinbeck's Of Mice... The loneliest character in this novel I would say it's going to be Lennie. Lennie is the loneliest because if he did not have George in his life I do not think Lennie would have anyone in his life, Also, Lennie would not know from right to wrong because George is the that tells him what not to do, Finally, Lennie has a mental illness and if he did not have geroge I do not think he would be able to survive. If Lennie did not have George, he would not have anybody in his life. Throughout the novel it talks about how Lennie and George stick together and plan to have a future in a barn. "Well, i never seen one guy take so much trouble for another guy. i like to know what your interest is." This tells the reader that even though Lennie brought a bunch of problems into George life, George still would stay with Lennie. After studying this piece, we were allowed to replicate A Sunday on La Grande Jatte in the form of a mural in one of the hallways. I was beyond fascinated with the different colored "dots" we were using, and how in the end it all came together as a whole. Seurat's pointillism technique catches my eye each time I see a piece of his, and to this day, I am in awe of this particular piece. In my opinion, his creation of pointillism is outstanding. • 67. The Dysptopian Novel of 1984 by Geroge Orwell The dystopian novel of 1984, written by the English writer George Orwell, was first published by Secker and Warburg in 1949. The novel discusses the life of Winston Smith and his venture to rebel against the totalitarian state in which he resides. George Orwell wrote 1984 as a warning after World War II, with the intention of describing a society that he would never want to live the day to see. Unfortunately, he knew that it was more of a precaution to say this is how life for some was like in Germany or the Soviet Union. Both of these places having been in power during his time he wrote this to show the rest of the world how it was too late for them, and coming nearer for everyone else. During the war, Orwell worked for the British Broadcasting Company, where he got the idea for newspeak. Orwell's main goals in 1984 are to depict the frightening techniques a totalitarian government (in which a single ruling class possesses absolute power) might use to control its subjects, and to illustrate the extent of the control that government is able to exert. George Orwell's 1984, the theme that a government may use mind controlling and brainwashing to maintain power over the society has been brought out through many symbols, events and ideas. In the year of 1984, the world has been divided into three super powers: Oceania, Eastasia and Eurasia. It is a frightening word, generally applied to a society organized to crush and dehumanize the individual, sometimes signifying the alienation of that individual if he dares to rebel" (Lewis 13). George Orwell, the pseudonym for Eric Arthur Blair, depicted the importance of the individual in society and the danger of too much community in his literature. Through his personal experiences, however, he explored the ideas of socialism and was torn between the individual and community ideals. In his literature and his past, Orwell spoke against movements that remove the individual, but still emphasized the importance of community. Thus, he advocated a ... His inner conflict between these two ideas and his experiences as a member in the Spanish Civil War caused him to choose a median between the community ideals which he saw and the individual ideals which he missed: "I have seen wonderful things and at last really believe in socialism, which I never did before" (qtd. in Chen). With the start of World War II, George Orwell began his fight against Nazism, fascism, and communism. In the eyes of many, communism became interchangeable with socialism, and he criticized writers of his time that were in support of Stalin and his "socialist" movement: "Why should writers be attracted by a form of Socialism that makes mental honesty impossible" (qtd. in Lewis 76)? In an attempt to pacify the radical communist movements and change imperialism, he spoke of a third method to reform the British Empire–a middle ground that would create a socialist community in Britain. John Newsinger wrote, "[He had a] call for a new socialist movement that would reject both Communist–style revolution and Labour Party reformism in favour of a third way to socialism, a third way that he continued to call revolutionary but that was adapted to modern conditions" (qtd. in Chen). • 71. Analysis Of Broken Windows Theory x According to James Q. Wilson and Geroge Kelling in their theoretical article piece "Broken Windows," the Broken Windows Theory concludes that if disorder goes untreated in neighborhoods, the fear of crime goes up in citizens and police officers, and more disorder will lead. The focus on police officers obligating to socialize more personally with its citizens in neighborhoods leads to citizens having more favorable opinions of the police and for residents to feel more secure. In effect, those residents would think that crime has been reduced in their neighborhood. Although with the practice of personal socialization [foot patrol] for police officers its citizens in neighborhoods, crimes rates have shown no decline in crime, however, citizen's perception of police officers and their neighborhoods grow favorable." The function for policing of the Broken Windows Theory is for police officers to use the tactic of foot patrol and socializing more persistently and effectively with citizens in neighborhoods, and perform an "order maintenance" function. This function enables to gain trust and reduce fear in the citizens. Moreover, police officers attempt to care to pay more attention to detail to citizens to maintain order. Geroge L. "The best laid schemes of mice and men/Go often askew/And leave us nothing but grief and pain,/ For promised joy!" (39–42) In Of Mice and Men Lennie is tall with big arms, but is very child–like because he does not understand the consequences of his actions, like when he kills the puppy and then Curly's wife. Like the mouse in the poem "To a Mouse" Lennie does not know what it is to keep a home, and the "nest" that the farmer destroys is Lennie's dream of the ranch that he and George are going to open but, in the end, we know that is not going to happen. Unit 3A The Good and Bad in Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men characters I am writing this essay to explain how John Steinbeck presents good and bad in the characters George and Curley from the novella "Of Mice and Men." The last thing that this essay will show is how Steinbeck engages us to show good and bad in characters. John Steinbeck wanted us to understand men, as "if you understand each other you will be kind to each other". In the beginning of the book we see George walk to the river with Lennie. We can see George as a master of Lennie. We know this by the line "Give it here said George" This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... George assures Lennie that he can tend the rabbits. This makes Lennie happy because George is telling a story that Lennie keeps forgetting on purpose. This makes George a good character, as he has patience with Lennie. In the second chapter George and Lennie meet the boss to get a job. George describes Lennie to the boss as, "Strong as a bull" and "Hell of a good worker." The phase "Strong as a bull" is a simile and this makes Lennie sounds beastlike." This shows that George is being honest with the boss which makes him a good character and also this makes George smart. Next, when George and Lennie are talking to the boss George lies to the boss to get a job. George lies to the boss by saying "He's my ........... cousin." and "He got kicked in the head by a horse." George lies to the boss so that his job is secure. George is a good character at this point because he wants to earn money so he and Lennie can do something with their money to make the dream farm become reality. After the meeting with the boss George uses horrible language towards Lennie like, "Be a good damn thing if you was George said viciously." The adverb viciously shows that Geroge is being horrible to Lennie and also shows that George has a short patience, this allows us to think that George is a bad character in this ...
