Dave Benfield Case Study
Dave Benfield has worked with the Wayne County commissioners for years, so why did he feel the
need to introduce himself earlier this week? Benfield's interactions with the commissioners in the
past came when he was associate director of the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development
Center. Since Steve Slack's retirement, Benfield is now director of Ohio State University's Wooster
campus and wanted to schedule a formal meeting. Benfield, joined by Associate Director Rhonda
Billman, BioHio Research Park President Shauna Brummet and Brian Gwin, who handles special
projects for Benfield's office, updated commissioners Jim Carmichael, Ann Obrecht and Scott
Wiggam about upcoming changes for OARDC and the Agricultural Technical Institute. The meeting
was a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During this reenvisioning, the goal was not to reduce the number of workers. There could be
reduction in personnel over time due to attrition, but Billman said there has really not been a
reduction in workers. With the changes, Billman said the university is looking to find some
economies of scale and efficiencies. OARDC and ATI each had their own facility crews and land
crews. "We're working toward a one–team crew," Benfield said. Additionally, the two entities also
have their own equipment. Money can be saved in this area, as well as in insurance. As the transition
moves forward, there are still some questions about who will become dean of the college. Hendrick
is leaving for Michigan State University. McPheron is being considered for the provost position; if
he does not get appointed permanently to the position, then returning as dean is a possibility. A
permanent associate dean of research and graduation will likely not be named until a permanent
dean is in place. All of this could take up to 18 months or more. "Our goal is to forge ahead; we're
not going to let that slow us down," Benfield said. "The research is continuing. We are not worrying

Delaware State University Case Analysis
Delaware State University
Mission statement: Delaware State University is a public, comprehensive, 1890 land–grant
institution that offers access and opportunity to diverse populations from Delaware, the nation, and
the world. Building on its heritage as a historically black college, the University purposefully
integrates the highest standards of excellence in teaching, research, and service in its baccalaureate,
master's and doctoral programs. Its commitment to advance science, technology, liberal arts, and the
professions produces capable and productive leaders who contribute to the sustainability and
economic development of the global community.
The business and affairs of the University are governed by the Board of Trustees. The Board of
Trustees has all the powers accorded it by Title 14, Chapter 65 of the Delaware Code. The Board
consists of 15 members whose appointment or election is provided for in the Delaware Code, and
the governor of the state and the president of the University, both of whom shall be members of the
Board, ex officio, with the right to vote. Eight of the trustees are appointed and commissioned by the
governor for a term of six years. Two such trustees will reside in each county of the state. Seven of
the trustees are elected by a majority of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

University Of Florida 's Online Program
University of Florida's Online Program The University of Florida's (UoF) realization that brick and
mortar schools no longer serve as the only means to attaining a higher education established an
institutional paradigm shift (Kuhn, 2012) on education delivery. The university's evolution of an
online education developed alongside the growth of technology (Blocher, DeMontes, Willis, &
Tucker, 2002) and the needs of the community (University of Florida, Distance Learning, 2016). For
the UoF, online programs began transforming as early as 1947 when challenged to adapt during
world events such as the need to deliver GED home study courses to nearly 6,000 immigrants
(University of Florida, History, 2016). In years that followed, an increasingly competitive
environment (Volery & Lord, 2000) led to the video taping of lectures in 1991 and to the online
courses and Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) that initiated in 2013. In its early development
MOOCs were housed under the Coursera website since it provided an opportunity to test online
courses (Coursera.com, 2016; College Factual, 2016). Today, the UoF houses both MOOCs and
online programs within the Division of Continuing Education (DCE), which the university
established in 2009 and dedicated full–time faculty to it due to the steady growth of online education
(University of Florida, Distance and Continuing Education, 2016). According to Allen and Seaman's
(2013) annual report, the series identified the number of

and people already there.
In Utah History there are three main contributors. The Mormon Pioneers, The Mountain Men, and
the Native Americans. Some people wonder, who affected history the most? I think that it was the
Mormon Pioneers. They were the ones who pushed the U.S Government to grant them the status of
a State. Today in Utah, about sixty percent of the people here are Mormons.

Academic Enhancement Center Analysis
In the organization that I work at, the Academic Enhancement Center, which is part of Saint Francis
College. The center was created in 2003 is to provide academic and skills tutoring to undergraduates
at the college. The core objectives of the AEC are to help students gained confidence in themselves,
enhance their skills, help them succeed in their studies and retain current students. However, the
academic enhancement center must complete with other organizations within the college for
financial resources and other assets to run efficiently. In part four of Artistry Choice, & Leadership

America Faces A Wealth Gap
Veronica Gonzalez
James Okrasinski
English 1102
3 March 2015 America faces a wealth gap. Those born in the lower class struggle moving up.
Although the United States has long thought of itself as a nation where anyone who gets schooling
and works hard can move ahead on the basis of their achievement, the facts tell otherwise. Children
born into high–income families have about twice as much chance of becoming middle class or better
in their adult years as those born into the lower classes. A way in which the lower–income kids can
beat the chances is by getting a college degree. Those who earn a degree have a better chance of
becoming middle class or better than those who don't, although still not as good of a chance as the ...

In addition, experts on the field argue that the effects of college "are powerful enough to boost the
income of adult children from relatively poor families not only well past the income achieved by
their parents but also past the income achieved by many of their peers with more advantaged family
backgrounds who did not obtain equivalent education" (Isaacs, Sawhill, & Haskins 34). To put it in
another way, obtaining a degree is the best way, perhaps the only way, to possess economic stability.
Now, if we look at it from the country's perspective, education can be part of the solution to the
wealth gap, because the occurrence of poverty in the United States is directly related to educational
level. A college degree is the ticket to the middle class and beyond. Today, obviously, the idea that
everyone should attend to college is indisputable. But there is definitely nothing magical about its
price. As higher education institutions keep on rising its tuitions and fees.
The overwhelming cost for higher educational institutions is causing a huge concern over whether
higher education will be an attainable financial concept to the ordinary student in the upcoming
years. Many Americans now tend to believe that the path to obtaining a degree has turned into
distraught with financial traps. Recent studies done by the U.S. Department of Education show that
"college tuition and fees have ballooned 1,120% since 1978. A year of college tuition for

I did not have a clue of what a Deportation Officer was until I was the age of 9. I never played
"cops" when I was young, I would get intrigued by a certain job and pretend to be it but by the next
day, I had forgotten all about it. After many "take your child work days", I began to see what my
very own father does. My father is a Deportation Officer for Immigration Customs Enforcement
(ICE) for 22 years now. Through his knowledge, storytelling, and tons of research, I eventually have
decided that the career of a Deportation Officer will suit me perfectly. Working as a deportation

Tablets Are Necessary in Classrooms Tablets in schools come with many pros and cons but
ultimately, the world is becoming more and more advanced and technological. Schools need to keep
up with the changes going on in the world. Tablets are extremely imperative in schools. People may
view tablets as overly expensive, however, they are actually very cost–beneficial. Tablets allow for
more learning in the classrooms, give students more and easier ways to learn and access
information, and help students with disabilities that struggle in the standard classroom. Growing up
for children who are now in their older teens and even their twenties, they never had devices to use

Having everything in one place allows for more class time to collaborate and also allows for parents
to stay on top of their child's assignments and grades. First of all, tablets allow for parents to stay on
top of the child's schoolwork and frees up class time for collaboration rather than book work which
can be done at home on a tablet. For example, in an article by Ingram Micro, a global technology
chain who is very informed on tablets, stated "posting material and assignments online saves time
and ensures paperwork isn't lost. Students can access materials when they want them and even share
information with classmates online" (Peng2). Schoolwork is very accessible from home and saves
time in the classroom. Tablets also helps improve communication between home and school.
Students know how easy it is to leave a folder at home or at least use that excuse when they have
forgotten to do their homework. In an article titled 21 Reasons to Use Tablets in the 21st Century
Classroom by Julie DeNeen, a former teacher who taught workshops on the use of technology in the
classroom, explains "It may be easy to lose a handwritten note or assignment, but as the tablet goes
back and forth between home and school, parents can monitor their children's assignments, teachers
can notify parents, and all around connections can be sustained" (DeNeen5). It is very easy for
parents to stay on top of school work and help their child get their work done through the use of

I also conducted several faculty searches, planned course schedules, evaluated faculty, and regularly
conducted faculty meetings. In my time as Director of the Graduate Program in Communication at
SFA, I led the faculty in revising and developing policies, and in an extensive review and revision of
the curriculum. As Director of the Basic Course in Communication at three universities, I led the
faculty in assessment and revision of the course more to effectively reach the established
instructional goals and objectives, recruited adjunct faculty, and led the faculty at LU and SFA in
writing and publishing workbooks specifically designed for the basic course.
As Director of the Office of Student Learning and Institutional Assessment at SFA, the Provost

academic programs, administrative units, and educational support units. Under my leadership in
institutional effectiveness, SFA was successful in achieving reaffirmation from the Southern
Association of College and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) with no monitoring
reports or recommendations, an achievement that only 10% of institutions could claim during the
year SFA received reaffirmation. We were able to accomplish this distinction despite the fact that the
institution had no consistent or formal institutional effectiveness processes in place just 3 years

The Impact of Systems Theory and Diffusion of Innovation...
Systems theory versus diffusion of innovation theory: How both have impacted the field of
healthcare The foundational concept of systems theory is as old as Aristotle's statement that the
whole is greater than the sum of its parts. But when the biologist Ludwig Von Bertalanffy created
the concept of general systems theory (GST), he was reacting against a powerful contemporary
emphasis within his field which stressed reductionism rather than a holistic perspective. "He
fathered an organismic approach to biology as a reaction to the vitalism–reductionism arguments
that were rampant in his day," which focused upon components of organisms instead and the notion
that living systems were innately different than non–living systems (Provost 2011). Von Bertalanffy
instead stressed that all systems shared similar properties, regardless of their nature. First and
foremost, the components of every system from a cell to a human being, to a society of human
beings must be understood in consort, not in isolation This signified "a unity of the observed
universe and hence of science" (Provost 2011). Systems are open, dynamic, and capable of change
because they are in constant dialogue with the rest of the environment. "An open system that
imports free energy or negative entropy from the outside can legitimately proceed toward states of
increasing heterogeneity and order," whether human and 'living' and/or nonhuman and conceptual
and social (such as a business) (Provost 2011). This

Admitted students with high need and lower probability of four–year completion, were de–

most impacted by these changes in policy and practice were disproportionately from
underrepresented backgrounds and under resourced secondary schools, creating conflict between
admissions practices that focused on crafting a diverse freshmen class and greater institutional
emphasis on four–year completion.
Though I remained closely connected to the Office of Admissions during my time in CNS, I
observed, as in outsider, significant staffing changes, compromised staff morale, and increased
skepticism the institution held for admissions and recruitment staff. In addition, recruitment efforts
were often berated publicly as the cause for matriculation declines by ethnicity, major, or caliber.
More than 15 admissions officers, the majority from the recruitment division, resigned due to

Social Constructivist Leadership
Abstract
The Making of a Leader: A Phenomenological Study of the Lived Experiences of Women Who
Have Served as President at U.S. Colleges and Universities
Katrina L. Jackson, Ed.D.
Drexel University, May 2015
Chairperson: Kathy D. Geller
Women in the position of president at U.S. colleges and universities have defied the odds. Since the
1980s, the number of women presidents in colleges and universities has grown, increasing from
9.5% in 1986 to only 26.0% in 2011. Although the percentage of women presidents of these
institutions has increased, there is still an underrepresentation of women in the role of president
(American Council on Education, 2012).
The purpose of this phenomenological study was to explore the reported and lived experiences of
women who became college and university presidents, with the goal of creating a better

Social constructivism is a worldview that argues that the nature of reality is based on the individual
and his or her beliefs and experiences. Gergen (1985) stated, "From the constructionist position the
process of understanding is not automatically driven by the forces of nature, but is the result of an
active, cooperative enterprise of persons in relationship" (p. 267). This perspective acknowledges
"historical and cultural biases" as primary influences on the construction of an individual's
worldview and suggests that "Descriptions and explanations of the world themselves constitute
forms of social action" (Gergen, 1985, pp. 267–268). As a social constructivist, I recognize that
when people tell stories of their lived experiences, certain phrases may be expressed through body
movements, facial expressions, and gestures, and these actions further illuminate what the individual
is communicating (Gergen, 1985). Using the social constructivist paradigm helps the researcher
better understand the world in which each individual participant

1 How would you approach taking on the role of Provost at Capital University and advancing key
priorities?
My approach to advancing key priorities would be multi–pronged. It begins with conversations with
you, to help me understand your vision, your priorities and the manner in which you want these to
be communicated. It also involves many conversations across the institution to allow me to get a
sense of where the campus community is in terms of these priorities –
I would ask a series of questions including:
1. Does it know what they are? 2. Does it support them or does it need further understanding of the
priorities?
3. What concerns might it have regarding the priorities?
4. What excites it about the priorities?

We started our semester with the main goal of establishing UNITY Roundtable with an updated
version of constitutions and bylaws. After a couple of weeks of receiving feedback from the UNITY
Roundtable reps we settled and voted on the latest version of them. After that was completed,
Deshauna and I with the help of the reps we worked to recruit a SFAC Liaison and after several

Women Weightlifting Are there people that believe women do not belong in the gym, and if they do
should they only be using cardio equipment? Many people believe women do not belong in the gym
and they definitely do not belong in a weight room or under a weight bar. Although this is definitely
not true, because it is just as important for women to go to the gym on a regular basis as it is for
men. Many women go to the gym and spend much of their time on a cardio machine, rather than
spending a fair amount of their gym time lifting weights. Women weightlifting is quite important

look far as there was no system of governance, leadership or structure in place in regard to The

Definition of the Term Protocol
Protocol.
The term comes from the Greek "protokollon," which was the cover page to a manuscript that
provided a description of the contents...how fitting a choice. In context, it is defined by American
Heritage dictionary as "a code of correct conduct." In layman 's terms, protocol is simply the rules
and customs of a group or a standard procedure.
Let 's look at protocol in application, specifically in the armed forces. The importance of
maintaining correct protocol and Military bearing on and off duty, is essential because to show
disrespect to an NCO when in uniform could cause disrespect among civilians about the military in
general. Any disrespect towards my leaders, from team leader on up to Sergeant Major of the Army,

The military recognizes that respect for authority is what maintains order and prevents the eruption
of chaos and is hence willing to set an example for all who might be tempted to oppose their leaders,
by administering these punishments first hand without any judicial representatives. Furthermore,
Article 90 makes it clearly illegal to disobey an order by a military officer.
In society there has to be a guideline––something that regulates the conduct of people toward each
other. Just think of it in smaller terms, in a family environment. Mother and Father establish rules by
which children have to abide.
For example, when parents tell their children that they cannot scream and yell at each other they are
establishing with their children some (very important) protocol. It regulates the behavior of the
children––and as much is a huge factor in why positive protocol is so important. The conduct
between people in a society is better because of it. Since the children from the above example
establish guidelines not to scream and yell at each other, they in turn become more effective
communicators. This positions the children to contribute on a greater level later in life.
On a larger scale it sets the stage for an environment where that behavior is something that is not
desirable, therefore creating a new norm.
We can also take a stance here at the importance of protocol in an academic setting. It

How Did Etienne Gregg's Use Of Trapped Animals In The Bayous
Etienne Provost was born in 1735 in Chamly, Quebec. Provost passed away July 3, 1850. Etienne
was described as a short, fat, and a very round man. Around 1841 he was involved in the St. Louis,
Missouri fur trade, also trapping in Spanish territory. He trapped animals in the bayous and in the
Colorado Front Range. Provost formed a partnership with Francois LeClerc in Taos, Mexico to trap
in the Uinta Basin, the Green River drainage, and the central portion of Utah. In October, 1824
Provost's trappers encountered a band of Shoshone Indians near what we call the Great Salt Lake.

Resource Room Teacher Interview Report
My morning interview with a resource room teacher provided me with a wealth of vital information
that will assist me in my future career. As I sat at length and spoke with Mrs. Provost, asking her
questions that revealed the inner workings of her job and the various facets that accompany it, the
same thought kept entering my mind "someday this going to be me", and I could not be happier.
While Mrs. Provost willingly and patiently answered each question I realized the obligation of
educating in the department of special education is challenging at times. The commitment is
tremendous, but when a student with any form of social or academic disability thrives under the
direction of a special education teacher's leadership, the end result can be

Victor Provost is widely considered one of the premier steel pan jazz artists of the 21st century.
Through appearances at concert halls, clubs, and stages throughout the world, he has been
meticulously developing a reputation as a "dazzling" soloist, crafting an impressive improvisational
voice and style. Provost possesses a thorough knowledge of Bebop language, with a strong
foundation in Caribbean sensibilities, and is armed with a virtuosic technical ability that allows him
to weave all the elements of music seamlessly in his playing. Provost has two albums to his credit,

Generally, the tenor pan is the highest pitched instrument in the steel pan family, with pitches
ranging from D4 to F#6, arranged in the circle of fifths. Provost style of tenor (made by Kyle
Dunleavy) goes down to G3 and has a much richer and warmer tone than its D4 counterpart. Ranges
can be expanded for other instruments in the steel pan family such as the double second steel pan.
The double second, also know as the alto pan is one of the most versatile instruments in the family
of pans. Typically, second pans offer about a two and a half octave range, bolstering enough register
to play both melody, harmony and chords. Double seconds are configured with a whole tone scale
on each side, which means chromatic scales would feature alternating notes. Normally double
seconds range from a F#3 to a C#6, but there are double second instruments that go down to E3 and
yet support the higher register of the C#6. This would open up more choices in terms of melodic and
harmonic contour for a jazz soloist, or any soloist or performer for that

This essay is about the Duke Vincentio in Measure for...
The character of the Duke is portrayed by Shakespeare as a very complex, hypocritical and
contradictory character. To many critics, he is conveyed as a Machiavellian Prince, using others for
his own political ends, and to some critics, a God–like figure, testing the pathology of power in
Vienna. Despite these two polar opposites the character is nethertheless a character of ambivalence.
Contradiction is one of the main themes of the play, as is appearance versus reality, law versus grace
and justice versus mercy. The Duke never lets go of the puppet strings, pulling events and
manipulating other characters in the play. Vincentio's motives for influencing the events are
controversial; it has been argued that the Duke enjoys watching others ... Show more content on

Angelo doesn't want to be married and neither does Lucio. Therefore the Duke uses marriage as a
punishment instead of death. He commands Angelo with the imperative 'look that you love your
wife' and tells the provost to 'proclaim it? around the city'– that any woman disvalued by Lucio
should come forward.
In marrying both Lucio and Angelo, he is committing them to a life of misery, far worse than being
executed, and also humiliating and disgracing them. Neither of the marriages are likely to last long,
and justice is only done for Mariana in terms of law, not in terms of love. Mariana is given what she
wants, but the marriage will inevitably fail. Kate Keepdown is also done justice in terms of law, but
may not want to be married, as she will no longer be able to continue being a prostitute.
Also, this is not really fair for Lucio, no one else had been charged for fornication with a prostitute,
and the only reason Lucio is being judged so severely is because he slandered the Duke.
Lucio called the Duke 'a very superficial, ignorant, unweighing fellow' and also told the Friar that
'his [the Duke] use was, to put a ducat in her clack–dish... he would be drunk too'. This creates
dramatic irony as the Duke is actually the Friar in disguise. 'A ducat in her clack–dish' is a
euphemism for being with prostitutes. The Duke's response to this is shown in his monologue in Act
3.2.

Ebony In The Ivory Towers
Will There Finally be Ebony in the Ivory Towers?
The tech industry has been lambasted for the lack of diversity in the major players like Apple,
Facebook, and Google, especially for the lack of black and brown personnel in upper management.
Spike Lee has recently renewed his cry for a more diverse Hollywood, recently commenting, "It's
easier to be the president of the United States as a black person than be the head of a studio [or]
network." What about the nation's ivory tower educational institutions? Would it surprise you to
know they are predominately white and male?

missions are propelled forward by a faculty that stands at the forefront of scholarship, research,

faculty, and that diversity must reach across the whole of Yale – to every school and to every
department."
Diversity has become a front–page news item at universities around the country this last month as
protests at Mizzou over the staff handling of racial incidents led to the walk–out of the football team
and eventual stepping down of the university president and chancellor. Yale has faced similar, but
less dramatic, issues over halloween costumes and an alleged yelling of "white girls only" at a frat
party.
The two Yale university leaders added that they "are committed to investing the significant funding
and human capital that will be necessary to make this initiative a success." But they noted that
"increasing the excellence and diversity of our faculty will take more than resources; it will require
the dedication and efforts of colleagues from across the university. You, the faculty of today, are our

Why Is College Tuition Rising?
College tuition and fees have skyrocketed across the country in the past decade, swelling at three
times the rate of inflation.
Why is college tuition rising? If you thought administration greed or a better quality education, I
hate to break it to you, but the answer is not so simplistic.
Rising tuition is due to what's called state disinvestment in higher education.
College costs rise because of policies created at the state capitol by people we elect to represent our
interests.
Fall 2003 was a turning point.
That semester, the University of Houston charged full–time students taking 15 credit hours a grand
total of $2,266 in tuition and fees. Adjusted for inflation, that would be $3,014 in today. If you

UH Provost Paula Short recently spoke on a 'Higher Ed Funding and Spending' panel at the Texas
Tribune Festival in Austin on Sept. 23.
"We were extremely pleased and grateful to the legislature," Provost Short said about this year's
increase. "We always welcome more funding."
Short said UH has moved to performance–based funding that relies on factors like graduation rates
instead of classroom contact hours.
Provost Short said this model is "making the university focused on student success...our students are
our single priority."
Investing in higher education in an investment in the state's future. For every dollar of taxes invested
in higher education, Texas gets $6.50 back.
Studies show a more educated population means a stronger economy and increased tax revenue. It
also means people are better able to support themselves financially and with less poverty, the state
spends less for law enforcement and social services.

The Decision Making Process At York College
Part Two Decision making, as defined by Mintzberg, is "The process of developing a commitment to
a course of action" (Dee & Bess, 2008,2012). The decision by York College to stop using their old
data mining software was made about ten months ago, and the process for finding the new software
began about six months ago. It is difficult to classify academic analytics as a strategic, tactical, or
operational decision because it has elements of all three. Strategic applies as one of the primary
goals is to improve student graduation rates and retention. It is a tactical decision because the
software will be used to improve the product we are providing our students to better fit their needs.
Finally, it is an operational decision because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

being conducted by the Associate Provost for Student Success. Since there is no committee, he is
inviting representatives from all the affected departments to observe the demonstrations from the

Prioress's Tale
Title: Prioress's tale
Genre: Miracle tale
Characters:
There was a town in Asia with a large Jewish population. There was one christian school opened up
for the Christians to send their children to and it was located in a jewish ghetto. "Where there were
Jews, supported by the Crown for the foul lucre of their usury." (Chaucer 170) A widow's seven year
old son attended this school. He was extremely devoted to his faith. One day the widow's son was
walking home from school singing Alma redemptoris, a song giving praise to Virgin Mary, this
made the jews in the city very angry. They were so enraged that they hired someone to murder the
boy by slitting his throat and then throwing his body into a cesspit. "Down a dark alley–way they
found and hired a murderer owned that secret place." (Chaucer 173) The boy's mother looked all
night for her son and she begged the Jews to tell her where he is. The jews refused to help the
widow. "This wretched widow waited all that night, she waited for her child but all for nought."
(Chaucer 173) Then Jesus gave her the idea to sing in the same place where her son had been thrown
into the pit. She sang out to her missing son and, even though his throat was slit, the boy started to

Application Of Effective Governance Model
1. In institutions of higher learning, governance is significant in terms of ensuring the realization of
learning objectives. However, selecting the application of effective governance model is the most
significant idea for university boards. The governing board of Washington State University is that of
strategic planning aimed at ensuring the need for dynamic marketing and educational excellence.
The Board of Trustees at the institution was formed to serve the role of constituting the voting
members of the Washington State University Foundation. The university has 49 members sitting at
its Board of Trustees. To qualify as Board of Trustee member, the individual should be ready to
volunteer and play a significant role in supporting the foundation. Considering the length of service
and their demographic characteristics, it is evident that the members have proven dedication towards
enhancing the success of the institution. The Board of Trustees have the role of determining the need
for additional member through a way of vote. The written by–laws of the board include the idea of
membership termination and the guidelines for the procedures of conducting meetings. These
guidelines are important in learning the methods of keeping a team focused. 2. The faculty
governance model utilized by the university is institution–based as its setting changes according to
the demands and changes in objectives (Mayfield, Chance, and Lieb, 2002). The key issue found on

Although the programs have been in existence at the college for almost ten years and preserved the
university during the financial crisis in 2008, the faculty were able to slow down progress to almost

certain stakeholders cooperate it increases power and improves their chances to leverage influence.
While the trustee board and the president's cabinet are the genuine stakeholders, the faculty and staff
and students are the essential stakeholders.
One of the major components that influence change in organizations is communication during the
change process. Denning's (2005) provided an example of how one major merger failed based on
how it was communicated. For change to have an opportunity to succeed at Central Valley College,
the university needs a trusted individual that Lewis (2011) described as a connector who can bridge

Dave Benfield Case Study

  • 1. Dave Benfield Case Study Dave Benfield has worked with the Wayne County commissioners for years, so why did he feel the need to introduce himself earlier this week? Benfield's interactions with the commissioners in the past came when he was associate director of the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center. Since Steve Slack's retirement, Benfield is now director of Ohio State University's Wooster campus and wanted to schedule a formal meeting. Benfield, joined by Associate Director Rhonda Billman, BioHio Research Park President Shauna Brummet and Brian Gwin, who handles special projects for Benfield's office, updated commissioners Jim Carmichael, Ann Obrecht and Scott Wiggam about upcoming changes for OARDC and the Agricultural Technical Institute. The meeting was a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During this reenvisioning, the goal was not to reduce the number of workers. There could be reduction in personnel over time due to attrition, but Billman said there has really not been a reduction in workers. With the changes, Billman said the university is looking to find some economies of scale and efficiencies. OARDC and ATI each had their own facility crews and land crews. "We're working toward a one–team crew," Benfield said. Additionally, the two entities also have their own equipment. Money can be saved in this area, as well as in insurance. As the transition moves forward, there are still some questions about who will become dean of the college. Hendrick is leaving for Michigan State University. McPheron is being considered for the provost position; if he does not get appointed permanently to the position, then returning as dean is a possibility. A permanent associate dean of research and graduation will likely not be named until a permanent dean is in place. All of this could take up to 18 months or more. "Our goal is to forge ahead; we're not going to let that slow us down," Benfield said. "The research is continuing. We are not worrying about who's in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Delaware State University Case Analysis Delaware State University Mission statement: Delaware State University is a public, comprehensive, 1890 land–grant institution that offers access and opportunity to diverse populations from Delaware, the nation, and the world. Building on its heritage as a historically black college, the University purposefully integrates the highest standards of excellence in teaching, research, and service in its baccalaureate, master's and doctoral programs. Its commitment to advance science, technology, liberal arts, and the professions produces capable and productive leaders who contribute to the sustainability and economic development of the global community. The business and affairs of the University are governed by the Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees has all the powers accorded it by Title 14, Chapter 65 of the Delaware Code. The Board consists of 15 members whose appointment or election is provided for in the Delaware Code, and the governor of the state and the president of the University, both of whom shall be members of the Board, ex officio, with the right to vote. Eight of the trustees are appointed and commissioned by the governor for a term of six years. Two such trustees will reside in each county of the state. • 5. University Of Florida 's Online Program University of Florida's Online Program The University of Florida's (UoF) realization that brick and mortar schools no longer serve as the only means to attaining a higher education established an institutional paradigm shift (Kuhn, 2012) on education delivery. The university's evolution of an online education developed alongside the growth of technology (Blocher, DeMontes, Willis, & Tucker, 2002) and the needs of the community (University of Florida, Distance Learning, 2016). For the UoF, online programs began transforming as early as 1947 when challenged to adapt during world events such as the need to deliver GED home study courses to nearly 6,000 immigrants (University of Florida, History, 2016). In years that followed, an increasingly competitive environment (Volery & Lord, 2000) led to the video taping of lectures in 1991 and to the online courses and Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) that initiated in 2013. In its early development MOOCs were housed under the Coursera website since it provided an opportunity to test online courses (Coursera.com, 2016; College Factual, 2016). Today, the UoF houses both MOOCs and online programs within the Division of Continuing Education (DCE), which the university established in 2009 and dedicated full–time faculty to it due to the steady growth of online education (University of Florida, Distance and Continuing Education, 2016). The Mormon Pioneers, The Mountain Men, and the Native Americans. Some people wonder, who affected history the most? I think that it was the Mormon Pioneers. They were the ones who pushed the U.S Government to grant them the status of a State. Today in Utah, about sixty percent of the people here are Mormons. The center was created in 2003 is to provide academic and skills tutoring to undergraduates at the college. The core objectives of the AEC are to help students gained confidence in themselves, enhance their skills, help them succeed in their studies and retain current students. • 11. America Faces A Wealth Gap Veronica Gonzalez James Okrasinski English 1102 3 March 2015 America faces a wealth gap. Those born in the lower class struggle moving up. Although the United States has long thought of itself as a nation where anyone who gets schooling and works hard can move ahead on the basis of their achievement, the facts tell otherwise. Children born into high–income families have about twice as much chance of becoming middle class or better in their adult years as those born into the lower classes. A way in which the lower–income kids can beat the chances is by getting a college degree. Those who earn a degree have a better chance of becoming middle class or better than those who don't, although still not as good of a chance as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In addition, experts on the field argue that the effects of college "are powerful enough to boost the income of adult children from relatively poor families not only well past the income achieved by their parents but also past the income achieved by many of their peers with more advantaged family backgrounds who did not obtain equivalent education" (Isaacs, Sawhill, & Haskins 34). To put it in another way, obtaining a degree is the best way, perhaps the only way, to possess economic stability. Now, if we look at it from the country's perspective, education can be part of the solution to the wealth gap, because the occurrence of poverty in the United States is directly related to educational level. A college degree is the ticket to the middle class and beyond. Today, obviously, the idea that everyone should attend to college is indisputable. But there is definitely nothing magical about its price. As higher education institutions keep on rising its tuitions and fees. The overwhelming cost for higher educational institutions is causing a huge concern over whether higher education will be an attainable financial concept to the ordinary student in the upcoming years. Many Americans now tend to believe that the path to obtaining a degree has turned into distraught with financial traps. Recent studies done by the U.S. Department of Education show that "college tuition and fees have ballooned 1,120% since 1978. A year of college tuition for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I never played "cops" when I was young, I would get intrigued by a certain job and pretend to be it but by the next day, I had forgotten all about it. After many "take your child work days", I began to see what my very own father does. My father is a Deportation Officer for Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) for 22 years now. Through his knowledge, storytelling, and tons of research, I eventually have decided that the career of a Deportation Officer will suit me perfectly. To follow the route that I am taking, political science is a liberal art major that almost all colleges have. Political science is the study of systems of government and the analysis of political activity and behavior. I plan on studying political science at the University of Texas at San Antonio or better known as UTSA. Once graduating from college, I will have to take the Basic Immigration Law Enforcement Training to be employed. "By attending the ICE Detention and Removal Operations, completing the Border Patrol Academy or a combination of programs at the Federal Law Enforcement Training center to obtain the necessary training. Mrs. Provost. 22 February Ali James Advanced Composition B1 Mrs. Provost 22 February 2017 Tablets Are Necessary in Classrooms Tablets in schools come with many pros and cons but ultimately, the world is becoming more and more advanced and technological. Schools need to keep up with the changes going on in the world. Tablets are extremely imperative in schools. People may view tablets as overly expensive, however, they are actually very cost–beneficial. First of all, tablets allow for parents to stay on top of the child's schoolwork and frees up class time for collaboration rather than book work which can be done at home on a tablet. For example, in an article by Ingram Micro, a global technology chain who is very informed on tablets, stated "posting material and assignments online saves time and ensures paperwork isn't lost. Students can access materials when they want them and even share information with classmates online" (Peng2). Schoolwork is very accessible from home and saves time in the classroom. Tablets also helps improve communication between home and school. Students know how easy it is to leave a folder at home or at least use that excuse when they have forgotten to do their homework. In an article titled 21 Reasons to Use Tablets in the 21st Century Classroom by Julie DeNeen, a former teacher who taught workshops on the use of technology in the classroom, explains "It may be easy to lose a handwritten note or assignment, but as the tablet goes back and forth between home and school, parents can monitor their children's assignments, teachers can notify parents, and all around connections can be sustained" (DeNeen5). • 19. The Impact of Systems Theory and Diffusion of Innovation... Systems theory versus diffusion of innovation theory: How both have impacted the field of healthcare The foundational concept of systems theory is as old as Aristotle's statement that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. But when the biologist Ludwig Von Bertalanffy created the concept of general systems theory (GST), he was reacting against a powerful contemporary emphasis within his field which stressed reductionism rather than a holistic perspective. "He fathered an organismic approach to biology as a reaction to the vitalism–reductionism arguments that were rampant in his day," which focused upon components of organisms instead and the notion that living systems were innately different than non–living systems (Provost 2011). Von Bertalanffy instead stressed that all systems shared similar properties, regardless of their nature. First and foremost, the components of every system from a cell to a human being, to a society of human beings must be understood in consort, not in isolation This signified "a unity of the observed universe and hence of science" (Provost 2011). Systems are open, dynamic, and capable of change because they are in constant dialogue with the rest of the environment. "An open system that imports free energy or negative entropy from the outside can legitimately proceed toward states of increasing heterogeneity and order," whether human and 'living' and/or nonhuman and conceptual and social (such as a business) (Provost 2011). After six years, I requested a role with greater responsibility, believing I needed more space to grow than the organization would allow at the time. Though I remained closely connected to the Office of Admissions during my time in CNS, I observed, as in outsider, significant staffing changes, compromised staff morale, and increased skepticism the institution held for admissions and recruitment staff. In addition, recruitment efforts were often berated publicly as the cause for matriculation declines by ethnicity, major, or caliber. More than 15 admissions officers, the majority from the recruitment division, resigned due to dissatisfaction and/or lack of confidence in changes in leadership and direction of the institution – many of these positions were not replaced. Social Constructivist Leadership Abstract The Making of a Leader: A Phenomenological Study of the Lived Experiences of Women Who Have Served as President at U.S. Colleges and Universities Katrina L. Since the 1980s, the number of women presidents in colleges and universities has grown, increasing from 9.5% in 1986 to only 26.0% in 2011. Although the percentage of women presidents of these institutions has increased, there is still an underrepresentation of women in the role of president (American Council on Education, 2012). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Social constructivism is a worldview that argues that the nature of reality is based on the individual and his or her beliefs and experiences. Gergen (1985) stated, "From the constructionist position the process of understanding is not automatically driven by the forces of nature, but is the result of an active, cooperative enterprise of persons in relationship" (p. 267). This perspective acknowledges "historical and cultural biases" as primary influences on the construction of an individual's worldview and suggests that "Descriptions and explanations of the world themselves constitute forms of social action" (Gergen, 1985, pp. 267–268). As a social constructivist, I recognize that when people tell stories of their lived experiences, certain phrases may be expressed through body movements, facial expressions, and gestures, and these actions further illuminate what the individual is communicating (Gergen, 1985). It also involves many conversations across the institution to allow me to get a sense of where the campus community is in terms of these priorities – I would ask a series of questions including: 1. Does it know what they are? 2. Does it support them or does it need further understanding of the priorities? 3. What concerns might it have regarding the priorities? 4. After a couple of weeks of receiving feedback from the UNITY Roundtable reps we settled and voted on the latest version of them. After that was completed, Deshauna and I with the help of the reps we worked to recruit a SFAC Liaison and after several weeks we elected Vincent Wan. He will oversee the allocation of next year budgets and make sure the process and decisions is equitable and inclusive of multicultural organizations. Through the semester, we came up with different long term goals such as creating a proposal for the renovation of the three multicultural houses. To complete the research and plan we formed a workgroup that will be chaired by Senator Carter. This working group is formed by three UNITY Roundtable members and three Student Senators. They will research best practices from other institutions and create a proposal that UNITY will vote on and present to the board of Trustees during their spring gathering. This semester was hard for students from marginalized communities, hence, most of UNITY's organizations. Starting with the hate crime targeting two Latina students on campus. We reacted to this by organizing a meeting for student to color. During this meeting we address the hate crime, self–care, and action steps. Many people believe women do not belong in the gym and they definitely do not belong in a weight room or under a weight bar. Just think of it in smaller terms, in a family environment. Mother and Father establish rules by which children have to abide. For example, when parents tell their children that they cannot scream and yell at each other they are establishing with their children some (very important) protocol. It regulates the behavior of the children––and as much is a huge factor in why positive protocol is so important. The conduct between people in a society is better because of it. Since the children from the above example establish guidelines not to scream and yell at each other, they in turn become more effective communicators. This positions the children to contribute on a greater level later in life. On a larger scale it sets the stage for an environment where that behavior is something that is not desirable, therefore creating a new norm. To many critics, he is conveyed as a Machiavellian Prince, using others for his own political ends, and to some critics, a God–like figure, testing the pathology of power in Vienna. Despite these two polar opposites the character is nethertheless a character of ambivalence. Contradiction is one of the main themes of the play, as is appearance versus reality, law versus grace and justice versus mercy. In marrying both Lucio and Angelo, he is committing them to a life of misery, far worse than being executed, and also humiliating and disgracing them. Neither of the marriages are likely to last long, and justice is only done for Mariana in terms of law, not in terms of love. Mariana is given what she wants, but the marriage will inevitably fail. Kate Keepdown is also done justice in terms of law, but may not want to be married, as she will no longer be able to continue being a prostitute. Also, this is not really fair for Lucio, no one else had been charged for fornication with a prostitute, and the only reason Lucio is being judged so severely is because he slandered the Duke. Lucio called the Duke 'a very superficial, ignorant, unweighing fellow' and also told the Friar that 'his [the Duke] use was, to put a ducat in her clack–dish... he would be drunk too'. This creates dramatic irony as the Duke is actually the Friar in disguise. 'A ducat in her clack–dish' is a euphemism for being with prostitutes.
